OOC: male Diglett please

Jonny looked pleased with Ryu now. Even though the Diglett had escaped underground, Jonny knew that his Scizor had the small ground type on the proverbial ropes now. "Okay Ryu... here's what we're going to do... I want you to wait for that Diglett to come up from underground. And as soon as it does, I want you to pop him hard with a quick Bullet Punch." Jonny instructed. "Got it?"

Ryu nodded in understanding. The Scizor closed his red eyes for a moment and then his pincers began to glow silver. Ryu was ready to launch the attack.

BP:

Jonny looked rather happy with how the recent turn of events took place. The Scizor alsp looked quite pleased and even managed a quick smile that faded away almost immediately afterwards. I smiled as well. I couldn't help thinking how moody that Scizor was.

"Okay Ryu... here's what we're gonna do... I want you to wait for that Diglett to come up from underground," Jonny smiled. "And as soon as he does I want you to pop him hard with a quick Bullet Punch," Jonny added. "Got it?" Jonny asked, not really needing an answer.

Scizor blinked in agreement before resuming his state of concentration. His blood-red eyes steadied and focused on the ground below him. He raised his arms slowly and his two pincers glowed a dark silver colour. The sun chose that moment to emerge from behind the large, fluffy clouds hanging around above. The sun's rays intensified as they reflected off the Scizor's shiny arms momentarily blinding Jonny and I. I raised my arms to block the glaring light.

The Diglett chose that particular moment to pop out of the ground, almost as if it had anticipated this sudden distraction. The Scizor was looking at his distracted trainer and lost concentration as the Diglett's head knocked into his leg, tripping him slightly. As the Scizor stumbled forward it's pincer connected with the Diglett's squishy, pink nose. The Diglett collapsed onto the ground.

At first I suspected that it had been knocked out, but I saw it's eyes open a crack as it lay there motionless. It didn't look as though it could continue. The Scizor regained it's balance a few seconds shy of falling to the ground. It looked ashamed. But, I knew it would be all right.

"Looks as though now is as good a time as any to capture it," I hinted.

Jonny looked at Ryu and knew that he needed some reassurance after what had happened. "You did great." Jonny told the Scizor as he reached to his belt and pulled a Park Ball off. "You did real good." He repeated as Scizor brushed itself off and flashed a thin smile. Jonny waited a moment to confirm that the Diglett wasn't getting up before he flicked the Park Ball casually at the Diglett, hoping for a successful capture.

"You did great!" Jonny told his Scizor enthusiastically. Jonny reached down to his belt and withdrew a classic Park Ball. "You did real good" Jonny added with a smile. He raised the Park Ball above his head, almost as though it was extremely precious. Then, in one swift movement, he lobbed the classic ball at the awestruck Diglett.

It soared through the air, pausing around one foot away from the weakened Ground type, opened up wide, and emmitted a bright red beam that sucked the little Diglett into the Park Ball. The ball closed and fell to the floor where it rattled slowly. Once, twice, three times. Then, it went still long enough for me to pick it up and stow in my back pack.

"Congratulations!" I beamed. "Now, let's move on," I said, indicating to the sandy trail on the trainers right. "That leads towards the sand dunes," I said as I trudged on. Jonny followed silently. Deep down, I knew he was.cheering.

We had been no more than a few minutes when I heard a quiet growl from below. I looked down to see a cute, baby sandshrew nestled in the warm, silky sand below.

"Want to battle it?"

Jonny watched nervously as the Park Ball shook once, twice, three times. He fist pumped once excitedly as the ball stopped shaking and sat still. Jonny took a step towards the ball but Jay beat him to it and the ranger quickly stored it in his backpack *Must be park regulations.* Jonny thought to himself. *I'm sure I'll get my Diglett once this run is over.*

"Congratulations." Jay told Jonny, who nodded and smiled in thanks. He followed Jay silently for a few minutes, Ryu the Scizor hovering beside him.

Jonny looked down at the baby Sandshrew, who looked at peace. Jonny resisted the temptation to coo at how adorable it was because after all, cooing isn't a manly behavior. Jonny looked at Ryu the Scizor, who seemed to shrug, indicating that he wasn't all that interested in battling the baby Sandshrew.

"It looks so at peace." Jonny told Jay quietly as if he didn't want the Sandshrew that they were there. "I think I'll just let it rest." Jonny said with a caring smile as he walked quietly by the small ground type. "Let's see what else we can find." He said with a smile.

Jonny looked down at the peaceful, dowsing Sandshrew. I could tell that Jonny thought it was adorable, but wouldn't say it around other males, namingly me. Scizor on the other hand merely glanced at it, before folding his pincered arms and gazinging in the other direction, clearly unfazed by the little Sandshrew's presence.

"It looks so at peace," Jonny said, barely more than a whisper. "I think I'll just let it rest," he added. "Let's see what else we can find."I nodded in agreement and pointed ahead. "That's where the sand dunes are. Powerful ground types live there," I said as I continued walking.

We trudged through the smooth sand, silently enjoying each other's company. As we progressed all of the remaining coarse, ground merged into the clean, yellow sand. Suddenly, there was a fieresome roar from somewhere very close by, causing the ground beneath us to tremble. The sand in front of us began to rise up and broaden. Higher and higher it rose, until it was roughly the same height as me. "Stand back!" I commanded Jonny, nudging him back.

A huge head popped out of the sand cloak. The head was a dirty, mustard-yellow colour and also a little coal-black. It had blood-red eyes that shone hungrily. The sand behind it trickled off, revealing it's huge body. It advanced a step as the two trainers retreated several. The Scizor remained rooted to the spot, eyes locked with the collassol Hippowdon.

"Do you think you're up for battling this Pokemon, or, do you want to try outrun it?"

As Jonny walked along with Jay, he allowed himself to get lost in his own thoughts. He thought about new tactics to use in his gym back in Veilstone, he thought about how he could go out and enjoy himself for a couple of days after a hopefully successful park run and he thought about new Pokemon he could possibly acquire for his team outside of the Park, Pokemon that he wouldn't use in his gym battles because they weren't of the fighting type.

Jonny was annoyed for a moment that they were going into the sand dunes because of the fact he was wearing a sparkling new pair of white low-top basketball shoes. But he quickly told himself he was being stupid for more than one reason. After all, he was a gym leader in a big city; it would be easy for him to buy a new pair of Nike basketball shoes when he got out of the park. And Jonny also told himself that getting his shoes scuffed up and dirty would be more than worth it if he managed to catch a powerful new addition to his team.

Jonny was about to ask Jay about what specific Pokemon they could expect to find in the sand dunes that they were currently traversing when Jonny heard a thunderous roar echo all around him. He looked to Ryu the Scizor, who didn't look intimidated in the slightest. This brought a slight smile to Jonny's face; his starter would never back down from any challenge, no matter how big or how powerful. Jonny turned back to the source of the roar and he saw a massive plume of sand billow up. Jonny started to move forward to investigate, but Jay told him to stay back until they could clearly see what it was. The sand continued to rise for a few more moments and Jonny was forced to put his amber aviator sunglasses back over his eyes to shield his eyes from the sand and dust that was blowing all around them.

He squinted and eventually he could see that he, Jay and Ryu the Scizor were face to face with a massive Hippowdon. The sand that the Hippowdon had risen from slowly fell off of the colossal ground type, revealing just how large the ground hippo actually was. As the massive Hippowdon took a step towards him and Jay, Jonny took a few hurried steps back out of instinct. Jonny was proud to see that Ryu the Scizor did no such thing and instead locked his blood-red eyes on the also red eyes of the Hippowdon.

“Do you think you're up for battling this Pokemon, or, do you want to try outrun it?" Jay asked Jonny and he thought about it for a moment. On one hand, he stupidly didn’t take any Pokémon with him that were useful for countering ground types. On the other hand, his Scizor was staring the Hippowdon down and Jonny didn’t think Ryu would forgive him for backing down from this battle.

“Ah what the hell… Ryu wants this fight… and I’m not the type to back down from a challenge.” Jonny announced and Ryu grinned. His red eyes took on an intense glint which made it clear that he was ready. Jonny looked at the Hippowdon for a long moment, trying to plan out a strategy.

“Okay Ryu… I want you to Swords Dance… we need to get your attack power up so we can strike hard and fast…” Jonny said a bit hesitantly. He was worried that Hippowdon might knock Ryu out in one powerful shot.

Ryu the Scizor just looked at Jonny and nodded. It was clear that the bug / steel Pokémon was more confident in Jonny’s tactics than the trainer himself was. Ryu closed his eyes for a moment and crossed his pincers in front of his chest. After a few moments of silent focus, Ryu’s eyes shot open as his whole body took on a silver glow. After a few moments, the glow faded. It was clear that Ryu was ready for a street fight.

"Ah what the hell... Ryu wants to fight... and I'm not the type to back down from a challenge," Jonny said, somewhat defiantly. I felt a broad grin stretch across my face. Most trainers would flee at the sight of a huge Pokemon, like this particular Hippowdon. It was hard not to admire the pair's bravery. Ryu was in a traditional battle stance, with one foot and one hand out further than the other, and so was Jonny, whether the two realised it. Both of their faces were lined with concentration making it clear that they really didn't take battles light-heartedly.

"Okay Ryu, I want you to Swords Dance. We need to bring your power up so you can strike hard and fast," Jonny commanded. Immediately after Jonny said this Scizor brought it's two pincers inwards and pressed them together, in a meditative pose. His eyelixs drooped and closed. He paused for a moment before his eyelids darted up revealing fiery eyes, prepared to fight. Scizor also looked tougher, wilder than before. Perhaps it was the boost from the Swords Dance or perhaps it was the glaring light from above.

In response to this Hippowdon pulled it's broad shoulders back, attempting to look bigger. His feet dug down into the sand as he attempted to increase his weight, and thus his bulk. He advanced a step, slower than before, and let out another tremendous roar. The Hippowdon's eyes locked on the Scizor's, challenging it to make the first move.

"Watch out," I warned. "It's attacks will be more powerful as well."

As sand whipped all around the party, Jonny realized something. His Scizor was somewhat wounded from his previous battles, and if Ryu went down... his whole party would be at risk due to the fact that his other two Pokemon were weak to ground attacks. "Ryu!" Jonny shouted over the noise from the billowing Sandstorm. "We have to get out of here!" He said quickly before returning Ryu to his ball. Jonny then looked at the ranger who was accompanying him. "Jay, let's go! Before that Hippowdon attacks!" Jonny said quickly.

BP:

"Ryu!" Jonny shouted at his obedient Scizor. "We have to get out of here," he said with a hint of compassion for his Pokemon. Jay, come one. Let's go before that Hippowdon attacks."

I looked at Jonny, somewhat amusedly. He was the guy who, just like his Pokemon, remained adamant about battling and hated to back down from a fight, but, it was a trainer's duty to protect their Pokemon and I admired him for that. The Hippowdon on the other hand, merely grunted as it's head drooped down slowly. It let out a fieresome roar and chargedtowards the Scizor, who looked rather sour about having to return to his Pokeball. Hippowdon moved surprisingly fast for a very heavy Pokemon, especially after the boosted weight from Curse, and hurtled into the shelled Pokemon, knocking the pair to the sand below. Scizor leaped up to his feet in a nimble manner and, without awaiting orders, he smacked the rising Hippowdon with a powerful, steel fist.

Hippowdon bliunked in response as Scizor brought it's hand back and used another Bullet Punch. His dark red fist glowed a glaring silver for a moment before shooting into the lazy Hippowdon's side. Scizor backed away a little bit, slightly fearful of the overpowered hippo.

"We have two options," I said hurriedly. "We can either try and flee again, or, we can stay and battle. Don't forget I have three Pokedolls on me that I can sell to you to gaurantee a successful escape. They cost 700 pokedollars each and I need the money up front," I smiled.

Jonny thought over his options. He could either pay just a small sum of money to make their escape a certainty, or he could risk trying to run away once more and potentially put himself and his party in harm's way. It didn't really take long for Jonny to make a decision. Because after all, as a successful trainer and a gym leader, he had plenty of money to spare. Especially if that money went to protecting his face from harm. Shielding his eyes from the sand with his right hand, he reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. Quickly peeling off seven 100 pokedollar notes, Jonny handed them to Jay with a smile. "Let's get ourselves out of here. After all, an angry hippo isn't something I want to deal with right now." Jonny remarked.

Jonny reached into his pocket with one of is hands. His hand fumbled around in there for a few seconds before he retrieved seven one hundred dollar bills. He handed to me one by one with a smile. He sure looked glad to escape from that beastly Hippowdon, I thought. I zipped my trusty blue-and-red rucksack open and pulled out a cute Clefairy plush. "Let's hope this big fella enjoys it," I smiled, tossing the Clefairy Pokedoll at the Hippowdon. It's beady eyes watched it for a few seconds before it's mouth snapped open and swallowed it whole. By the time it looked up, we had already left and were heading towards the rocky plains, and, higher up the volcano-like-mountains.

We travelled in the intense heat as the sand below our feet began to change into dusty dull-green grass, that looked as though it had died a long time ago. Large rocks and boulders started appearing as we continued on our journey through the Park. Suddenly, I heard a growl from behind me. I spun around to see a purple, bat-like creature staring at me with an odd look on it's face.

"Hello little Gligar," I smiled as I extended my hand. It arched it's large stinger outwards for me to shake, which is exactly what I did. The Gligar looked at Jonny nervously, unsure what to do. "Looks like this little bugger may wantr to battle. Are you interested in this treat?" I asked Jonny.

Jonny was quite relieved to escape the enraged Hippowdon. As he and Jay began to travel high into the mountains, Jonny began to sweat from the intense heat. Stopping for a moment, Jonny stripped off his button-down shirt and stuffed it into his backpack, revealing that he was only wearing a tight white undershirt underneath. Jonny jogged through a rough patch of rocks and boulders to catch up to Jay and he skidded to a stop when he saw Jay with a Gligar. Jay held out his hand and shook the Gligar's stinger, which caused Jonny to raise an eyebrow slightly.

"Looks like this little bugger may want to battle. Are you interested in this treat?" Jay asked Jonny, who nodded eagerly.

"I've always had a problem fighting against Gliscors when defending my gym." Jonny thought out loud. "So maybe I should get one of my own... it would be a strong asset for my team." Jonny looked at Jay. "I'd like to fight it and attempt a capture." Jonny announced officially. He took a long look at the Gligar. It was kind of cute in a goofy way.

"Ryu, you up for another battle?" Jonny asked even though he really didn't have to. Seeing the Scizor nod, Jonny smiled brightly. "That's what I thought."

Ryu stared the Gligar down, something that caused Jonny to shake his head in an amused fashion. Ryu always tried that tactic at the start of any battle, and the success rate wasn't all that great. "Alright Ryu, enough with the mind games." Jonny told his Scizor gently. "Let's get this battle started with a Swords Dance." Jonny ordered confidently. Ryu crouched slightly as he hovered a few inches above the rocks coating the ground. He closed his eyes as his pincers glew a bright white. And then his red eyes shot open. He was ready to attack.

"I've always had a problem fighting against Gliscors when defending my gym." Jonny thought out loud. "So maybe I should get one of my own... it would be a strong asset for my team." Jonny looked at me. "I'd like to fight it and attempt a capture," Jonny said with a broad smile. "Alright Ryu, enough with the mind games," Jonny said, hoping for an easy start. "Let's get this battle started with a Swords Dance."

Scizor's eyes narrowedd and glowed a startling red colour as he eyed his opponent, sizing him up. He clashed his pincers tgether and they changed a dazzling white colour for a second. He raised his pincers high above his head and closed his eyes, channeling all the energy into his pincers, using his Sword's Dance. But, Gligar was rather smart and started dusting himself with his wings slowly and carefully as he tried to reduce his body weight, a feat not many Pokemon could perform. Afterwards it had a slight glint in it's eye and darted through the air, his winged arms gripping the Scizor's and swinging the heavy Pokemon slowly, before sending him hurtling to the ground, scattering dust up from tthe dusty grass.

Jonny couldn't believe what had just happened. The innocent looking Gligar had gotten the jump on Ryu with a quick Rock Polish and then had managed to throw him to the ground without even a hint of defense from the Scizor. Ryu slowly hovered up from the dusty grass and Jonny could tell that he wasn't just mad, he was enraged. His red eyes were practically on fire and Jonny could tell that he didn't just want to defeat the Gligar... he wanted vengeance for what he saw as a wound to his pride.

Jonny looked on in a concerned fashion as he watched Ryu send a death glare Gligar's way. Jonny could tell that his Scizor was getting dangerously close to loosing all control of his mind. "Ryu!" Jonny shouted loudly in order to get the hot-headed Scizor's attention. "Calm down!" The authority that was present in Jonny's tone made it clear that Walker was an experienced trainer. And as Ryu nodded to Jonny's request and held off from blindly charging Gligar and tearing it to pieces with his pincers (which is really what he wanted to do...), it was clear that even when he was on the verge of loosing his temper, Ryu the Scizor respected his trainer's orders.

"Good." Jonny smiled a bit. "We've boosted your attack... and now I can let you loose on that Gligar." Jonny reassured Scizor. "Let's get this started with another priority attack... Bullet Punch!" Jonny ordered once again.

As it was for many Scizors, Ryu had used the Swords Dance / Bullet Punch combination many times in the past, and the effects could be devastating when used in the right conditions. Once the Scizor had his orders, his black and red pincers began to glow a bright silver, signaling that he was ready to charge. With one powerful thrust off of the ground, Ryu flew towards Gligar, ready to strike. Once he got into range, he drew both pincers back and struck twice; first with a powerful right hook, and then with a left jab.

Scizor looked absolutely apalled at what had just happened. His eyesflashed a dangerous red colour and I could practically see the steam shooting out of his ears. Jonny gave him a certain look of warning, causing Scizor to stop immediately. Scizor babrely resissted the urge to tear the Pokemon to shreds, or at least that's what he would try and do.

"Good." Jonny smiled a bit. "We've boosted your attack... and now I can let you loose on that Gligar." Jonny reassured Scizor. "Let's get this started with another priority attack... Bullet Punch!" Jonny ordered once again.

Sczior shot forward, silver pincers outstretched and snapping viciously at the somewhat intimidated Gligar. Ryu lifted his right hand and brought it straight up into the Gligar's stomach and then crashed his left hand into Gligar's back as the Gligar flinced. Scizor retreated a little as Gligar regained it's self control and lunged forward, stinger arched. The tip of the stinger started to glow a dark violet colour and Gligar stabbed at a hole in the Scizor's armour. The stinger wedged right in and Gligar gave a sickly smile as poison seeped through the reinforced steel.

"Gar, gar!" Gligar taunted, glad to have beaten Scizor's immunity.

Jonny couldn't believe what he had just seen. And it seemed like it had taken him an awfully long time to shake the image out of his head. Like over a month even.

His Scizor, a powerful steel type, a type that shouldn't take any damage from poison moves, and certainly not get poisoned as a side effect from those attacks, was poisoned. Clearly poisoned.

"Ryu!" Jonny shouted to his ailing battler. "You alright to stay in?" Jonny got a rather blunt answer when he saw Ryu throw up the deuces before giving Gligar a rather nasty death glare. "Jesus Ryu... no need to be a dick about it." Jonny muttered under his breath. "You could have just nodded or something... there was no need to do that." Jonny actually laughed. His Scizor's attitude amused him much of the time, and this was no exception.

Jonny took a long look at Ryu's condition before making his next move. The Scizor was clearly weakened by all the hits he had taken in the past battles. He was hovering wearily and he couldn't even stay still. The armored bug was drifting lazily from side to side, a sign to Jonny that he was punch drunk. As an expert in training fighting types, Jonny knew when a Pokemon was out on it's feet (or in this case out on its wings) and was only staying up due to willpower, adrenaline and anger at his opponent.

"Ryu!" Jonny shouted to get his Scizor's attention. "You're barely still up!" Jonny added before spraying Scizor with a valuable Full Restore.

In an instant, Ryu's eyes lit up. With a vicious grin on his face, Ryu pointed at the Gligar and made the 'You're going to get it now' gesture of slashing one of his pincers gently against his throat.

"Now that's what I like to see." Jonny was grinning from ear to ear as well. "Now take him down!" Jonny shouted eagerly. "Bullet Punch!" Scizor nodded before taking off like a rocket at Gligar. His new found energy from the healing allowed him to close the distance faster than before and he drew his silver pincers back and delivered a devastating one-two combo aimed at Gligar's face. Ryu was clearly going for the kill.

"Ryu! You alright to stay in?" Jonny asked protectively. Scizor's eyes flashed a dangerous red colour and it looked murderous. "Jesus Ryu... no need to be a dick about it." Jonny muttered under his breath. "You could have just nodded or something... there was no need to do that," Jonny said. I started to laugh but managed to cover it up as a cough... of sorts. Jonny summoned his Scizor over and sprayed the overgrown bug with a Full Restore. Scizor looked a lot healthier than before and gave Gligar another venemous glare. Gligar stuck his tongue out and spittle flew out over the dusty ground below. "Bullet Punch!" Jonny shouted and Scizor's fists started to glow the familiar metallic silver we had both grown accustomed to. Scizor tore forward, jabbing once, twice before turning around and letting his gaurd down.

Seizing the opportunity Gligar tore forward and slashed at the bug type with his outstretched wings. Scizor's tough armour prevented too much damage being dealt. Gligar noticed this too however and stooped down into the sand below, kicking some up into Scizor's face. The beads of sand burned at Scizor's eyes and he started hissing. The cheeky Gligar hovered back to his place in the battlefield and out of harms way.

Jonny raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the events that had just occurred. Somehow the little Gligar had managed to not only shrug off a boosted Bullet Punch strike, it had also managed to partially blind Ryu, something that worried Jonny greatly.

Ryu meanwhile was hovering in circles, clearly trying to get the the sand out of his eyes. The issue here of course was that when your hands are giant metal pincers, you can't just gently brush the sand out of your eyes. So the only way that the Scizor could try to get the sand out was to blink rapidly.

As he did this, Ryu was hissing angrily at the Gligar, as if to say 'How dare you do that to me?' and that he was going to have the last laugh. However, Jonny was slightly concerned now. When the battle started, he had mistakenly assumed that the Gligar would be an easy opponent. He was now starting to have flashbacks to a number of crushing defeats he had suffered at the hands of Gligar's evolved form, Gliscor. It was almost as if Jonny had a mental block in dealing with the damn things.

Jonny took a few deep breaths to settle himself. Not only did he have to calm himself down, he had to calm Ryu down and prevent the armored bug from going berserk and doing something stupid. "Ryu." Jonny finally said in an authoritative tone. "I want you to settle down. And then I want you to strike back. Wing Attack!" Jonny ordered after carefully considering his options.

Scizor's wings began to beat rapidly as he took off towards Gligar. As he approached, they began to glow a jet black, taking on a similar hue to the rest of the armored bug. Once he was within striking distance, he whipped his entire body around at the Gligar, hoping to score a devastating hit.

Ryu the Scizor seemed to be going crazy as a result of these attacks. I sure would hate to see him try and play in a stall team, I thought to myself. He advanced on the Gligar, hissing angrily. Spit shot at the Gligar, splashing onto his body, who tried to shake it off. Perhaps Ryu's intimidation tactics were starting to work after all. Jonny called at Ryu to try and get his attention.

"Ryu!" Jonny said. "I want you to settle down. And then I want you to strike back. Wing Attack!" Jonny ordered after a moment of thought. Ryu nodded and shot forward. He spread his wings out wind and vcharged forward. The Gligar seemed to be rooted to the spot in fear which gave the adamant Scizor enough time to slam its powerful wings into the Gligar.

"Glig... Gligar!" it shouted, but did nothing else.
