    OOC: Well that's his problem lol. It has been forever and a day since I've done a post. Let's see if this even makes sense XD

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

    The purple and cream-colored fighter was openly staring at them as the Gym Leader responded, but the little Pokemon didn't seem to be afraid. Instead, he was studying the mixed group of people and Pokemon and calculating.

    “Alright, now we're talking!” he exclaimed, thinking this faster Pokemon would be a good addition in his Fighting-type gym. He became absorbed in his thoughts then, already thinking for the battle ahead.

    Ivy got out of the way, treading carefully over the ice patches until she could lean up against the wall near the cave opening. It was starting to snow harder, as flakes of the powder were being washed into the doorway from the gusts outside. The Ranger settled back to watch as she crossed her arms over her chest and got comfortable. Sometimes battles took a while.

    To her surprise, Vergil came and joined her, taking place a little farther down the wall than was necessary. He was near her, but not too near her, like he didn't want to be there. That was probably true. She had to hide a smile, though, as the Gallade almost slipped for a second. He looked indignant as he steadied himself and glared at the room as if it was laughing at him. She blanked her face as his gaze turned to her. She didn't want him to think she was laughing at him. Their relationship was poor enough as it was. Haji laid down by her feet.

    “Alright, Kai, come on out!” Jakk called next, and he threw his Pokeball to reveal the large yellow and black Pokemon again. She wasn't sure if he had brought more than two Pokemon with him or not. She hadn't bothered to look at the paperwork before heading out.

    The Mienfoo didn't seem intimidated by this other Pokemon. In fact, he had locked his beady eyes on it and wasn't looking away, studying his topic very closely. He didn't even twitch as Kai the Electivire stretched and yawned, loosening up his limbs for battle.

    The yellow Pokemon then dug his finger into his ear and pulled out some gunk that didn't look appealing in the slightest. Ivy supposed that was one way to Taunt someone. He then flicked it toward the smaller fighter. She thought it was going to hit him, but at the very last second, he dodged to the side, showing off that speed that Jakk was looking forward to.

    Then, the Mienfoo started to run up in a broken line while Kai held his hands out and generated a protective Reflect screen. The fighter darted and weaved from side to side as he ran, and Ivy noticed that his fur was sort of glowing a little. She wasn't exactly sure what it was from.

    She looked over to her left to see that Vergil was intently watching the battle, almost zoned-out in his focus. That usually happened. He was a bit obsessed with getting stronger at times, so he tried to absorb all the battle knowledge he could from watching battles. She thought that was one of the only reasons he stuck around when he was a Kirlia instead of trying to make a break for it – she had promised to help him evolve.

    The Mienfoo rushed up close to the Electivire, and at first Ivy thought he was going to kick the shaggy Electric-type. At the last second, though, she saw him pull up his momentum and do a smaller jump, and she figured he was aiming to use Kai as a springboard. Some of her Pokemon did the same thing.

    The fighter hit the Electivire somewhere on the stomach, but just like Jakk had instructed him, Kai let off a Thunder Punch at the exact same time. Kai was knocked back onto the ground and the Mienfoo went flying back. The smaller Pokemon recovered fast, however, doing a flip in midair and landing on top of the rock it had been peeking behind when they first entered in.

    The wind howled hard as snow blew into the room all the way to the end, and the Mienfoo let out a battle cheer that was all too happy. Even as she looked, Ivy could see his fur rippling with electric sparks. The strange part was that he didn't look hurt from that Thunder Punch at all. In fact, he waas moving a little more lively than he had been at first, like he was rejuvenated.

    Vergil was amazed and took a step forward without him noticing. Then Ivy realized what it was. “Role Play,” she told the Gallade, motioning toward the Mienfoo. “Copies the foe's ability and recreates it with enough energy. I think you can learn something similar,” she said further. Skill Swap was what she was thinking of.

    That could be a problem, she thought, since Electivire's strongest attacks were now not going to work on the wild Pokemon since he had finished his technique before the taunt spurred him into action. That increased speed might be dangerous in this icy cave, though.

    OOC: I couldn't be bothered reading too far backwards, so if Jakk seems a little less bothered about stuff than he should be it is because I am so incredibly lazy.

    ~~~~~
    Jakk wasn't even slightly listening to whatever Ivy was saying - he was sure it would have been helpful but he was too impressed by the Mienfoo's move. By anticipating what Kai was going to, the Wild Pokemon had not only negated his move but put itself into a great position to continue attacking. Besides, it's not like he could do anything more to pacify the woman. When bitches were pissed, they liked to be pissed, and there aint nothing a man can do to calm 'em down, like his dad often said.
    An uproarious laugh exploded from Jakk almost before he realised it. This was a Pokemon worth capture. Few had instincts like this. He knew he would now have to battle carefully - none of Kai's Electric-type attacks were now usable, which locked out almost half of his movepool. Hell, he couldn't even use debilitating moves like Thunder Wave, so forget the battle: the capture was going to be hard.
    Good. Jakk liked it when he was challenged.
    What did he know? Kai's electrical attacks were now useless. It was out of physical range due to the move it had used to retreat. U-turn whore, Jakk thought as he continued to crunch. That was the bad part. The good part was that Kai's taunt would surely be bothering the Fighting-type, and so for a little while its attacks would be somewhat more predictable. But how to capitalise on that? Obviously, this would be the time to try and cause a status condition, but this was now impossible. If weakening statuses were out, capture-wise, there was only one choice - extremely low health. The kind of stamina loss only caused by lowered morale in addition to a pounded body. Mental warfare with a Fighting-type was next to impossible, due to their condition, but Jakk had to try.
    "Kai, start off with a Leer," he commanded. His long-term plan relied on keeping the Mienfoo angry and off-balance. Considering Kai's Taunt was still in affect, a disapproving leer might add salt to the wound.
    "Then, perform a Rock Slide, but the way we did in Johto," Jakk continued.
    He was referencing the time before he became Veilstone's Gym Leader, when he took the Gym Challenge in the Johto region. He was a fairly new Trainer, although clearly one with talent. He and Kai had wandered into a cave to the south of Blackthorn City in which it was pitch black. They were battling a Golbat which kept using the darkness to hide. In a fit of ingenuity, Jakk commanded a Rock Slide by striking the ground, causing rocks to fall throughout the cave. It was a more diluted form of attack, but over a much wider area. The Golbat had been knocked to the ground and its keens had allowed Kai to locate and fry the irritating Pokemon.
    This form of attack was being used now because Kai wasn't used to battling on partially frozen terrain. Until the Mienfoo was closer and weaker, Jakk couldn't risk his Pokemon slipping on the floor. This pair of attacks would minimize the chances of this accident, while enraging and damaging the Mienfoo.
    Kai shook his shaggy head disdainfully before shooting a look at the Wild Pokemon. Like all of his techniques, the Leer was not directly offensive. The Electivire looked his opponent over slowly, snorting and occasionally rolling his eyes in an unimpressed manner. Nothing pissed off a Fighting-type more than being insulted or underestimated. Once he felt the time was right, Kai would raise his arms like a gorilla and smash them into the ground. The cave opening we were standing in would be stronger than the rest of the tunnel, so there was less danger of rocks falling, as opposed to further in where the Mienfoo was sitting.
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    The Mienfoo watched carefully from his rock perch, surveying the area. He looked eager to get moving though, probably due to both the Motor Drive boost he got from Thunder Punch and the Taunt that Kai had acted out when they started. He probably wasn't going to stay unmoving for long.
    “Kai, start off with a Leer,” Jakk then said, which was likely to spur the little weasel into action sooner. “Then, perform a Rock Slide, but the way we did in Johto,” he added. His words echoing off the ice-plated walls.
    Ivy wasn't sure what that meant, but it must've been a specific event to reference it so broadly without more explanation. She supposed she didn't need to know, however, since all she did was watch these battles and intervene if needed.
    The Electivire held his ground and looked toward the little Fighting-type. Since he was standing further into the cave than she was, she couldn't see what kind of look he was giving. She imagined it was a stern or unimpressed look, though, much like ones Vergil always gave.
    The Mienfoo responded with a feisty sound of his own, seeming like a challenge to the insult he had probably just received. He tensed his muscles and was about to bound off toward his target too, but that was when Kai started to move.
    With a heavy heave of his body, he took both of his arms and slammed them, closed fisted, down onto the icy ground. Ivy heard the resounding crack as they made impact, and tiny fissures appeared on the surface. Normally, something like that would be the cause of an earthquake, but that wasn't what happened.
    There was some shaking, and it made Ivy lean back on the wall with one of her arms to brace herself. It didn't last long, however, as she saw tiny cracks appear mid-height on the walls. They trailed upward like water running down a window pane in reverse, reaching up to the ceiling. That crackling noise sounded again, and it was sharp, as there was a lot of ice throughout the entire room.
    Then, there was shattering, and rocks from the ceiling began to fall. She saw them scatter across the field, making the Mienfoo stumble hard. One of the rocks clipped him in the shoulder, and he went tumbling off his perch, down onto the ice. He spun around a little as he lost his balance and slipped, and another, smaller, rock hit him again.
    Then, the after shocks hit. A shower of rainbow glass came spraying down next, knocked loose from the rock fall. It didn't discriminate where it fell because it coated the entire area. Ice rained down on the Mienfoo, and they thudded down onto the floor like bullets. Ivy tried to throw her free arm up in front of her to block the shards, but she knew she wasn't going to be able to block all of them. It would probably hurt even through her clothes.
    She braced herself for impact, but it never came. When the sound of falling ice stopped, she looked to see that Vergil was standing near her, holding his arm out like a knight would a shield. She caught the semi-transparent energy of a Protect barrier as it faded away.
    He glanced at her for a second, and then he went to stand against the wall again like nothing had happened. She could only look at him. She didn't say a thing. She could feel Haji's curious feelings brush against hers in her mind, but she didn't know if he was talking to the fighter or not. The purple cat seemed pleased about something, but Ivy didn't ask him what. She had expected protection from Haji, but not Vergil. They didn't get along on the best of days. Had something changed since the incident in the Woods?
    “Watch it,” she said, not really knowing if Jakk was listening. Sure, the rocks may not have been an issue, but glass shards were almost as bad. She knew someone that had been blinded like that.
    Her eyes were drawn back to the battlefield as the Mienfoo got up. He shook out his limbs and regained his feet with a grumbling sound, clearly not pleased to have been damaged. She could see tiny scratches along his body, particularly one cut that looked annoying above his left eye. He didn't let this bother him, however. He chose to strike.
    The ice on the floor that the Ranger had been worried about before was now almost a non-concern for the fighter. Gracefully he used the fallen stones from the Rock Slide as springing points. Some of them had dug into the ground, becoming embedded into the ice, while others skirted around when the Mienfoo jumped off of them.
    When he came near, he jumped up high off the last rock and did a spin in midair, twisting around like an airborne cartwheel. He smashed into Kai, who slid back a little on the still-slippery floor. Thankfully the big Pokemon didn't fall. That was probably due to the ice shards that had littered the ground. They provided good traction, but they probably didn't feel too great.
    As quick as he attacked, he was gone. The Mienfoo retreated right after, choosing to take shelter behidn one of the larger rocks a good distance away from the Electivire. There was a field of obstacles between them. At first, she thought he was trying to hide. Then she saw him poke out from behind the rock to start throwing things at Kai. It looked to be pieces of rock and ice that had smashed into smaller bits. That was going to get annoying fast.
    OOC: SO MUCH FUN :D
    Jakk expected the smashing fists and the cracks in the cave tunnel, and he expected the amount of initial destruction that occurred. Rocks fell and ice shattered and shards of both went flying everywhere. Jakk refused to look away - what warrior breaks eye contact? As it turned out, he was lucky: a piece of ice scored a thin cut on his cheek but he barely even noticed as a small line of blood began to make its way down to his chin. Jakk was much more interested in seeing whether or not Kai's attack had been successful.
    As the Gym Leader expected, it had. What he did not expect was the after-shakes. Rocks groaned and ice shattered above the group, and little pieces almost like snow rained down onto the battlefield. Beautiful rainbows danced throughout the many tiny pieces of ice, but Jakk wasn't stupid - stepping on those little pieces would be both painful and dangerous. His intent had been to make the floor safe to walk on - he had just done the exact opposite. Jakk swore under his breath. Until Kai could move around freely, he couldn't retaliate against the Mienfoo. Almost all of his long-range attacks were electricity-based, and the Mienfoo's newly acquired Motor Drive negated them. No, it was worse than that - the Motor Drive empowered the Wild Pokemon.
    Jakk's eyes found the Mienfoo, and he was pleased to see that the little weasel had taken some damage. Its head in particular was quite bloody, and injuries near the eyes were twice as bad as injuries elsewhere on the body. Jakk's teacher always said he'd take a sword to the leg before he'd take a punch to the face.
    The Mienfoo started to approach Kai, jumping from rock to rock, avoiding the danger present on the floor. Jakk took a second to admire the Fighting-type's grace and speed, and rue the fact that Kai couldn't move that way. He could always return Kai and use Stresser, but he didn't want to re-open any grievances with Ivy. Furthermore, Kai wouldn't forgive him. Running from this little rodent? Unthinkable.
    Finally, the Mienfoo jumped high into the air and performed a spin, striking Kai squarely in the chest. Kai grunted and slid backwards a little bit, but even that was impressive. The Electivire had to be at least four times the size of his opponent. The Mienfoo then used Kai's chest like a springboard: it flipped back into the air and landed on a large stone before retreating.
    Jakk looked over at Kai and smiled. His friend's shoulders were shaking slightly. Something was happening, something that didn't often occur. Kai was old, very old: he was one of the first Pokemon Jakk had ever caught. He had been in many battles, most of the Gym Challenges, and as a result he was starting to tire. As much as it hurt Jakk to consider it, soon Kai would have to retire. His advanced age meant that he didn't often have the spark that most of Jakk's team seemed to dredge up at will, and while it was great to have a wise Pokemon, sometimes that just wasn't an acceptable substitute for the fire of youth.
    Now, however, Kai was fired up. He had been shown up and insulted by this young rodent, one who had seen not a fifth of the summers he had. Kai might not have much longer in the battling world, but while he was still here, by God, he would fight.
    The Mienfoo had retreated to the far end of the battlefield, and was scrounging around on the ground, apparently for things to throw at Kai. Big mistake. Jakk looked around and saw all the pieces of ice strewn around the field and smiled. It was time to turn things in his favour. He just hoped that the mountain wouldn't come crumbling down - apparently Rangers got a little bit pissed off when permanent damage was done to the Park. Still, worst case he'd endure another tongue lashing from the stern female Ranger and then have James bail him out.
    "Kai, quickly, use Flash!" Jakk called out.
    Kai roared and clenched his fists. Blue electricity crackled between his two black tails and his fur started to glow bright yellow.
    "You might want to close your eyes," Jakk said to Ivy. He did so, and also plugged his ears for dramatic effect.
    Kai roared once more, and there was a sound that could only be described as a quiet detonation. Jakk could imagine the bright light bouncing and refracting throughout the cavern, blinding the Mienfoo no matter where it looked, even straight through its eyelids - Kai could shine almost as brightly as the sun itself, after all.
    After a couple seconds, Jakk opened his eyes. The cave still looked the same, except for some lingering light fading away. He already knew what he was going to do. Normally, Kai hated Jakk's speeches, but the Electivire's gritted teeth and raised fur spoke volumes. The theory behind Jakk's counter-attack was quite simple, and almost idiotic: the current situation and battlefield did not suit Kai. Therefore, Kai would have to make a new battlefield.
    "Listen up, young Mienfoo and indeed, all of Mount Oktori!" Jakk cried. "Walking amongst you today is Jakk Carter, Gym Leader Extraordinaire! I have raised young and defeated the old; I have created and destroyed; and my proudest achievement is found in my Pokemon, and none more so than my Electivire, Kai. By stealing his abilities and attempting to throw pebbles at him, you have irritated him, young one. Now you shall see the true power of not only a Pokemon trained by me, but a Pokemon wise, courageous, and as strong as this mountain is tall! Watch as naught but his seething blood tears this very mountain apart. Hear how the rocks scream at our approach. Feel pride that we have encountered you and considered you powerful enough to battle, but do not entertain any chance of victory. Kai, I command you - use FISSURE!"
    Kai roared once more, and huge wreaths of blue electricity surrounded his hands. He held his fingers straight, turning his hands into spades, and he jabbed both of them uncompromisingly into the ground. All of his muscles bulged as he ripped apart the very earth itself.
    @ChainReaction01; Sorta gotta give you a warning/strike/thing here. Tsk tsk, you should know better =P Also, we have a Kai and a Haji in this room. All we need is a Saya and there's a party. Also think I went a little overboard.
    BP#7
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    Jakk was making some theatrical motions that Ivy found a little entertaining and even more ridiculous. He seemed to be having a good time, at least, though the Ranger wasn't sure about his Electivire. Although Kai hadn't battled a lot yet, he looked tired. Even more so than would be expected.
    “He has seen many seasons,” Haji said against her mind, chiming in with the answer to her thoughts, as always. “His time of fighting is coming to an end.”
    Hearing the Espeon's comments made her think about her own Pokemon, and what she would do when they were too old to fight or go on expeditions with her anymore. Jakk must be having a hard time with it, having his Pokemon so long, since Ivy didn't even want to think about it. She shook her head to clear the thoughts away. Although, she thought, glancing over at the somber Gallade leaning nonchalantly against the wall, Vergil would probably never start fighting. Right now, she wasn't sure that was a bad thing.
    “Kai, quickly, use Flash!” the Gym Leader shouted. Then, turning toward them, he said, “You might want to close your eyes,” while simultaneously following his own advice on top of plugging his ears, which was probably completely unnecessary.
    Ivy refrained from rolling her eyes – but only barely. Still, she pulled one of her black-covered arms up to hold over her face. When Trainers used Flash in caves or other dark spaces, they tended to use only a fraction of its power. She knew how bright it could get, and besides, there was way too much ice around for it to be dull.
    The Electivire gave out a loud roar, and Ivy caught a glimpse of his fur starting to glow before she hid her sight completely, quickly checking to make sure Haji and Vergil did the same. She could still see illumination even while being slightly turned away, so there was no doubt it was intense.
    The Mienfoo screeched, and she heard a thud, perhaps indicating that he had lost his balance from the blindness and ran into something. When she could look again, the little fighter had a stumble to his step even while he was trying to cover his face with his arms. It looked like he had averted his eyes too late. There was a shining brightness in them that clued in to his semi-blindness. That was going to make his attacks more difficult.
    Jakk, however, wasn't done with his plan. Capitalizing on the precious time Kai had earned, he took a deep breath, puffed out his chest, and gave a very long and energetic speech.
    Ivy listened and alternated between shaking her head and chuckling, only very quietly. Jakk couldn't hear her anyway since he was busy trying to inspire even the mountain itself. “I don't know, what do you guys think? Looks too young to be a father already,” she joked.
    To her amazement, that earned an amused sound out of Vergil. What was up with him today? Not only had he came out to the mountain to comment about the weather, but he had stayed and even shielded her from the glass. What was going on? Normally she couldn't get two positive words out of him on any given day.
    “He is behaving,” Haji informed her, but when she questioned him why that was, the psychic cat's mind went silent and impenetrable, like a steel safe. Haji must've had a really good threat on the Gallade for him to be this polite. Ivy shivered just imagining what it was.
    Jakk sounded be be drawing to the end of his speech. The next thing Ivy heard from him was, “Kai, I command you – use FISSURE!”
    “Wait-!” Ivy shouted, but it was too late to stop them.
    The Electivire let out a rumbling roar and cloaked his hands in that lightning blue energy right before he jabbed both of his flat-formed hands right into the earth. The initial rumble that happened when Kai tried to pull the ground apart made Ivy crouch down onto her feet so she'd be more balanced. She could still feel the bottoms of her boots sliding around on the ice-covered ground, and she knew that was going to be trouble.
    Then, the whole room started shaking as Kai continued with his attack, causing even more rocks to tumble from the ceiling. Ivy was the most worried about the floor, though. Deep cracks appeared, shooting from where the Electric-type had started and threading toward the center of the room. After that, it branched off in two other directions, making a Y in the floor. Now that the plate wasn't whole, it wasn't as strong. The depression in the middle began to sink in further, causing the floor that remained to tilt downward toward the center.
    The Mienfoo lost his footing first, and his feet couldn't find traction on the ice to stop his fall. His body slid across the rock fragments and ice shards toward the center hole that went who knew how deep into the mountain below. Since there were other cave rooms and chasms buried away in this place, it could be a pretty far drop.
    “Haji, Vergil!” she called while throwing her arm out to point, wanting them to be ready to rescue the little fighter if he started to drop into the abyss.
    Thankfully, the weasel slammed up against a bigger rock that was still embedded into the floor, safe for now. As for Ivy, her flail had caused her own fragile footing to fail, and she found herself sliding toward the same fate that the Mienfoo had just worried about. It didn't matter if the drop to solid ground was one story or ten – either of them was likely to sprain a limb if it didn't break first.
    The debris on the ground scratched at her exposed skin as she slid. She tried to find purchase on something, but nothing worked. She didn't have long to think about her demise, however, as suddenly she was being swept away at lightning-fast speeds across the room. She finally stopped up against the wall on the previous unoccupied third of the room.
    Ivy unceremoniously was plopped to the ground, and she gave an “Ow” as she rubbed one of the arms that had been dragged on the floor. She was going to need to clean it well after the expedition to get all the grainy bits out. Vergil was slightly out of breath next to her, probably due to the quick action needed. It was just like him to save her and then dump her on the ground like that. Still, she was glad he had even helped at all, even if it was at Haji's insistence. “Thanks,” she said. He said nothing. Ivy could still feel Haji's pleased emotions in her mind.
    Once the room had stopped, she found that all of them were somehow in one piece. Haji was still on the third of the floor where the Trainer was, while she and Vergil shared an empty one. The wild Pokemon was on a panel of his own. The fissure in the floor almost reached all the way to the wall. Fortunately, there was about a foot or two solid ring still around the floor. It was still too dangerous for others, though, and since there was no quick fix for something like this, she was going to have to file a report on it.
    The Mienfoo was safe for now, and Jakk and Kai looked fine from what she could tell. She sighed and while everything was still quiet, she said, “Don't ever do something like that again.” She was aware she sounded a bit cross, but this was dangerous, and it was her job to protect both people that came here and the Pokemon that lived here. “I have to give you a warning for it – You'll have to fill out some paperwork when we get back to base. That could've really hurt someone, or maybe even caved in this part of the mountain. Please be more careful,” she tagged onto the end, just for politeness. She really wanted to bash his head in.
    Ivy took out her phone and quickly sent a message to headquarters, using the GPS feature on the device to pinpoint their location. A notice had to be sent out immediately to anyone that might be on the mountain already and anyone planning to come here. When that was done, the Mienfoo started to stir.
    He looked really worn out. The previous attacks plus this latest one really did a number on him. When he stood, he staggered and had a slight limp when he took the first careful step. It was still icy, and there was still the risk that he'd fall right into that crevice. Luckily, she thought her Pokemon were still aware enough to help if needed. Haji was standing now, with his forked tail swishing now and then. That usually meant he was focusing.
    Seeing that the Mienfoo could no longer reach his opponent, he opted to attack long range. The quake had shaken off the effects of the taunting, but the little fighter still wasn't quite on. Ivy didn't blame him.
    A red brown orb of energy began to form in front of him, seemingly held in midair between two outstretched paws. When the weasel fell down again, however, the orb stayed there, held in place by metaphysical energy. The Mienfoo got up again, stubborn has he was, at least enough to lob the attack in the Electivire's general direction.
    To her surprise, his aim didn't really matter. That technique must've been an Aura Sphere, because even though she wasn't close to Haji, she could feel the energy coming off of it. Aura Sphere tended to be very accurate because it honed in on the opponents energy signal and used that as a guide.
    The attack slammed into Kai's middle, but he didn't go down. He did grunt, and the technique had probably hurt, but he didn't fall. He was probably worried about landing on the debris or maybe sliding into the crevice himself. After all, he was probably the biggest one of them all.
    The little fighter was the most tired. His eyes were opening and closing, like he wad drowsy. He was probably exhausted. His feet were slipping on the ice too, gradually moving his body. Soon he was going to be away from his rock cover, putting him in danger of falling down the hole.
    “You should probably do something quick,” Ivy called out the Jakk. “He might slip and fall in.”
    The mountain screamed as Kai pulled it apart. His sculpted muscles tore open the ground, causing the Mienfoo to scramble backwards in shock. Soon its claws began scraping uselessly on the ground as the shaking rendered good grip unobtainable. Rocks fell from the ceiling and caves were revealed lower in the mountain. Jakk saw brief glints of gold and shines of blue as the mountain's innards were rearranged. It was amazing how the power of a single Pokemon could rearrange the very face of our planet. Kai wasn't even a Legendary Pokemon and yet he was causing such incredible motions. This was debatably even more impressive than the time Dual fought off a Kyogre.
    Jakk thought he could could hear Ivy saying something but he shut it out. He was too busy enjoying the spectacle of being inside a mountain as it collapsed. At the same time, he was watching the Mienfoo to make sure that it wasn't being lost in all the commotion. Jakk was jostled around a lot but thanks to his boots he didn't move more than a few metres. He realised that Ivy was still speaking, but quit paying attention the instant he realised that she was chastising him. Nothing was going to bring him down right now – Jakk couldn't wait until the next Gym Leader Tournament and he could boast to all of the others that he had broken a mountain.
    On the down side, Jakk's plan had failed. He had hoped that Fissure would level the battlefield and allow Kai to get a clear run at the Mienfoo. The floor was now completely ruined – there was a large Y-shaped crack in the floor – and Kai had sunk onto his knees and one hand. He was panting quite heavily. No doubt the effort of pulling off this attack in his advanced age had taken quite a toll. It was quite possible that he wasn't fit to battle any more.
    This notion was only reinforced by the Mienfoo's retaliation. It summoned a glowing blue orb of energy, one that I recognised as an Aura Sphere. This little Pokemon must have been a true warrior in order to be able to use the purest of Fighting-type attacks. Still, despite its mental fortitude, it couldn't stop slipping and falling over as it threw the ball as Kai. The Aura Sphere acted like a homing missile as it automatically corrected its course to strike the Electivire directly in his stomach. Kai grunted in pain and his arm started spasming, but he didn't fall over. I looked at him for a long moment before reaching for my belt.
    “You should probably do something quick. He might slip and fall in,” Ivy called out.
    Jakk wasn't sure who she was talking about, but he turned his head and nodded. When he looked back, Kai was looking at him. The defiant spark in his eyes was still there, but there was a dullness behind them. It spoke of fatigue and ebbing will. Jakk knew that his friend could continue to battle if he needed to, but the Gym Leader refused to put the Electivire through that needlessly. He knew that Kai would probably be angry for a while, but it would be worth it. Jakk raised the PokeBall and returned Kai. He rubbed the ball for a couple seconds before replacing it on his belt and pulling another one off. Jakk glanced quickly at Ivy before throwing the PokeBall towards a relatively empty and safe-looking patch of ground. The ball burst open to reveal the form of a Blaziken.
    Jakk didn't really want to use Stresser after the clash with Ivy earlier, but Jugg didn't have any long-range moves, and that was what this situation required. The Blaziken seemed to be in pretty good shape – she squawked a hello to Jakk, who smiled in return.
    “Stressey, this Mienfoo has been giving Kai and me a little bit of trouble. Do you feel like helping us out?”
    Stresser screeched and fluffed herself up. She had a good relationship with Kai: the Electric-type had taught her Fighting-type techniques after she had evolved. The Blaziken loved to help out Kai wherever possible.
    “The problem here is that we need to bring the Mienfoo a little closer to us,” the man said. “I need you to use your Hidden Power to blast it away from the crack so it won't fall down. Then, you should probably hit it with a Flamethrower so that it's good and ready for a capture.”
    Stresser bobbed her head and held her fists close together. Waves of compressed air began to gather between them until she was holding a miniature typhoon. She then threw her claws forward but also swung them around at the same time. This caused the wind to blast out towards the left but curve towards the right, like a boomerang. Hopefully the wind would knock the Mienfoo into a safer location and then Stresser would follow up with a withering torrent of flames from her beak. That would be the perfect time to finally end this battle with a well-placed Park Ball.
    @ChainReaction01; I didn't know if you were actively throwing the ball this post, so I didn't. Next one should be super easy.
    BP#8
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    As she suspected, Jakk didn't listen to her at all. That was fine, she would just have to issue him a formal warning when the battle was done, since damage like this couldn't just be ignored. Other people and Pokemon had to travel and live here, and this would really inhibit some of them.
    Kai was in rough shape too, kneeling down next to one of the fissures he had made. He was breathing heavily and really looked like he had seen better days. She knew a lot of Pokemon were stubborn in fights, though, like her Gallade. Vergil wouldn't have quit for anything. However, Jakk made the motion to call the Electivire back.
    As he returned the Electric-type to his Pokeball and called on his next Pokemon, Vergil helped her up. Since the floor was slanted inward toward the crevice, she had to stand very close to the wall so she didn't slip. The Mienfoo was in a similar boat. He was barely bracing himself on the rock he was perched on, since his side of the field was slanted too.
    The next Pokeball opened to reveal the Gym Leader's Blaziken once again. He probably needed some sort of long-range moves, thanks to the giant hole in the floor, and many fighters didn't have too many of those.
    “Stressey, this Mienfoo has been giving Kai and me a little bit of trouble. Do you feel like helping us out?” The Fire-type fluffed up and nodded, clearly willing to do as her Trainer asked. “I need you to use your Hidden Power to blast it away from the crack so it won't fall down. Then, you should probably hit it with a Flamethrower so that it's good and ready for a capture,” he said.
    The fighter nodded and focused, and orbs of energy formed around her. They were tinged a green and silver color, and they didn't stay contained as rounded objects for long. With a gust of wind they burst open, their energies swirling toward the little Fighting-type. Right on cue, the gusts blasted the weasel, sending him sailing toward the far wall. This was good, since he was away from the crevice, but the gust hit him hard and made him slam into the wall. When he came down, he was so tired from all the other attacks that he couldn't keep his feet, and he started to slide down the floor again.
    This time, he took more action, with a cry and a pounding on the floor, rocks from the ceiling fell down in various places. Ivy pressed herself close to the wall as some fell near her. Stresser screeched too, as one clipped her right arm. This wasn't really to cause damage, however, as the little fighter needed something to brace himself on. Some fo the rocks had fallen on his side and stuck into the floor, and he slid to a stop next to a larger one that covered his body mostly when he ducked behind it.
    This solved the problem of him falling into the floor, at least. He looked a little ticked off, though. The Mienfoo leaned around the rock and fired off a Focus Blast, an orb of reddish brown energy that was powerful, but inaccurate. Either due to his fatigue or the inconsistency of the move, the Blaziken was only hit by part of it as she tried to duck to the side.
    In response, she opened her beak and let out a stream of billowing flames. The weasel shrieked and cowered behind the rock again, but from her angle on the other side of the field, she could see that he got singed a little bit before he managed to pull back.
    Ivy looked toward Haji, still on Jakk's side of the field, to make sure he was alright. He reassured her mind-to-mind that he was. He was safely near the wall, sitting calmly like a cat on a ledge. Haji rarely panicked.
    The battle now was probably drawing to a close. The Mienfoo was not going to be able to handle anything more really, and she wanted to get them out of this area and get it reported to headquarters before anyone else ventured this way.
    OOC: I did want to throw the ball but it wasn't clear enough, my bad.
    Just like Jakk had planned, the winds blew the Mienfoo away from the hole in the centre of the battlefield and up closer to the walls. The floor was still slanted, though, and the Mienfoo's extreme fatigue meant that it couldn't quite get a purchase. This meant that it started sliding straight back down towards the hole. The Fighting-type thought fast, and it smashed its little fists into the ground. Rocks began to fall from the ceiling. A few clipped Stresser but she didn't seem too hurt. One of the rocks landed in-between the Mienfoo and the crack, so it was finally able to stop sliding. It then summoned another orb of energy and threw it towards the Blaziken. Due to the combination of the Wild Pokemon's lack of energy and the difficulty of performing the Focus Blast even in perfect conditions, the attack only just grazed Stresser's side.
    That didn't piss her off any less, though. She screeched and opened her beak wide, and a torrent of flames leapt across the battlefield. The Mienfoo shrilled in pain and scampered around the rock to hide from the flames. Jakk could tell that the Mienfoo was very tired and hurt, and it was time for the capture. He pulled out a Park Ball and aimed for the Mienfoo. Thankfully, his shoulder, arm and leg was sticking out from behind the rock so the chance of it being hit by the sphere was pretty good, as long as the Gym Leader's aim was solid.
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    Jakk waited for Stresser's flames to die down before he threw his Park Ball. His throw was high, and the ball arced through the air, getting enough distance to actually land behind the rock the Mienfoo was using for cover. Ivy heard the smack of the ball hit the ground behind the fighter, but it must've been close enough to activate because the weasel let out a squeal as it was sucked up in a red light.
    The device popped closed and barely shook as it sealed and lit up in the center. However, due to the slight wiggling, the ball rolled out from behind the rock and toward the crevice. Ivy had that instant of heart-stopping panic, but then the orb was cloaked in a cloud hazy blue energy.
    Haji was standing slightly closer to the ravine, his eyes ablaze with psychic powers. The ball rose from the dangerous ground and hovered in midair, stopping for a few seconds before it was lobbed in her direction. The Ranger reached out to catch it and slipped it in her pocket. “Thanks, Haji,” she said.
    Ivy then sighed and pulled out her phone. She sent a notice to headquarters about the wreckage, and while she entered information in, she looked over the device to the gym leader.
    “When we get back to the outpost, I'll have to issue you a formal warning for damage in the park. Usually minor damage can be ignored, but this can't since it'll impact the Pokemon here and other Trainers. It'll go into your permanent file, and if you get three of them, you'll be marked a problem case and access might be restricted,” she said, hating the formal drabble she had to go through. Still, it was her job, and she couldn't just let people do what they wanted.
    “We should probably get out of this room. We can rest in the next one,” she said as she indicated to the caves continuing on the other side of the room. “There should be enough room to slide around the edges of the room. I don't think the cracks go all the way,” she said to him. Then, she addressed Haji. “I suppose if he falls, you should catch him.”
    Ivy followed her own advice and skirted around the edge of the room, Vergil following behind her. The next cave opening led to a well-lit tunnel lined with crystals, so she waited for her Trainer to cross the room there. Haji was following to make sure nothing bad happened. Then, once everyone was settled, they could move on.
    Jakk grinned and gave the thumbs up to Stresser, who smiled back. The Gym Leader didn't waste much time in returning the Blaziken to her PokeBall - he'd done enough damage to the environment already, no sense adding weakened ice care of Stresser's ambient heat to the tally.
    “When we get back to the outpost, I'll have to issue you a formal warning for damage in the park. Usually minor damage can be ignored, but this can't since it'll impact the Pokemon here and other Trainers," Ivy said in a strict tone. "It'll go into your permanent file, and if you get three of them, you'll be marked a problem case and access might be restricted." Finally, her gaze shifted. “We should probably get out of this room. We can rest in the next one. There should be enough room to slide around the edges of the room. I don't think the cracks go all the way.”
    "Yeah, it looks okay to me," the young man replied. He was able to edge around and meet Ivy at the passageway through to the next cave without needing any help. The tunnel was laced with veins of purple crystal that carried and refracted light. The Gym Leader readjusted his shoes and brushed some flecks of dirt off of his top and waited for the Ranger to continue onwards.
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    Jakk was okay with the plan, stating that it looked okay enough to walk around. He recalled his Blaziken to her Pokeball and then started making his way around the fissure in the floor. Haji followed safely behind, the Espeon making sure that the Trainer wouldn't fall. He didn't slip, which was almost a pity. Ivy would've got a kick of him dangling upside down, suspsended by Haji's energy.
    From the amusement coming through their psychic bond, Haji would've enjoyed it too.
    He made it to the tunnel without a hitch and took a second to brush the dirt and ice flecks from his clothes. When that was done, Ivy continued into the caves, being careful not to brush too close to the walls. Sharp crystals jutted out of them, and although they glittered prettily, they were pointed, and Ivy had seen them cut skin before.
    “Be careful of the walls,” she advised, not really wanting to do first aid out here.
    It was harder to avoid the dangerous wall hazards, though, as the path grew narrow. Vergil moved ahead of her so they were in a single file, and Haji followed behind. In some instances, she had to turn her body sideways and barely managed to squeeze through. Miraculously enough, her vest never snagged on anything.
    The path finally opened up, but it was into a larger room. It was pretty empty save for two paths leading out of it. One looked like another rocky tunnel, but it looked really cramped—almost more so than the one they had come from. The other had a tonuge of ice draped like a hand had smeared a glob of paint, and that ice continued to a slippery slope down into the darkness.
    Ivy couldn't quite remember which path led where. It had been a little while since she had been in this part of the mountain, and worrying about the fissure in the last room had sort of preoccupied her mind. She had this feeling that the slide led somewhere good, but she couldn't remember to what exactly.
    Vergil had walked a little farther into the room, and he was peering down the icy tunnel. He looked curious, but not overly so. He liked knowing his surroundings since he utilized them when he fought. Haji had perched himself at her feet when she stopped, serenly waiting for them to make a decision.
    “Do you remember where the slope leads?” she asked Haij silently.
    He paused a moment and looked that way. Vergil was still inspecting. “I do not,” he answered. The last time she had been in this area might've been before they had met.
    “If you're feeling adventurous,” she said out loud. “I think we should take that slide. That is, if you're not chicken.”
    Before Jakk could answer, Vergil suddenly teleported, disappearing from his place by the slope and appearing near them. He had himself in a guard, with his left blade arm up in a block and the right down low like a warrior would hold a sword. Movement on the other side of the room had caught their attention.
    In the shadowed corner, a Pokemon was stirring. The big gray fighter looked like it had been napping, since it was blinking its eyes rapidly and looked a little dazed. Its skin blended in almost perfectly to some of the rock, since there were fewer crystals in this room. That's probably why they hadn't noticed it before. Haji had once said that creatures gave off less energy when they were sleeping, unless they were super active in their sleep, like Abra or Musharna.
    The humanoid Pokemon got up, and then the red veins on its arms were more visible as it stumbled into the light. A fighter's black belt showed at its waist. It staggered to a halt and got a good look at them, trying to make sense of what happened. Some days she was pretty groggy when she woke too.
    “Any interset in one of these before we move on? It might be an easier fight if its still sleepy when battling.”
    Jakk followed Ivy into the beautiful passage. Unfortunately for the large man, the tunnel thinned right down. The Ranger was just barely able to squeeze through, so of course Jakk incurred multiple cuts from the rocks and crystals all over his arms and some few on his trousers. Thankfully, none of the cuts seemed too deep, and Ivy apparently did not notice. Either that or she was still pissed off with Jakk. Not that it mattered - the Gym Leader pulled a small first aid kit out of his little knapsack and wiped off the cuts while the Ranger looked around at their surroundings. Jakk wasn't as interested in the caves as he was in the rather large Machoke that was stirring in the corner.
    It didn't take long for Ivy to see it either. “Any interest in one of these before we move on? It might be an easier fight if it's still sleepy when battling,” she said.
    "No thanks," Jakk replied as he swung his backpack back up onto his shoulder. He had already taken the liberty of pulling a PokeDoll out of the bag just in case the Fighting-type got aggressive. "I already have all the Machamp I need in the form of my friend, Jugg. Let's just try and back out, and we might get lucky. The Machoke might think we were a dream."
    Ranger Ivy Frost
    ---
    “No thanks,” Jakk said, readjusting his stuff on his shoulder. Ivy looked back to see the Pokedoll in his hands just in case the Machoke got ornery. A lot of people were like that when they first wake up—she didn't foresee Pokemon being any different.
    The fighter blinked its eyes bleary as it tried to focus on the figures in the room. It could've seen Vergil's aggressive stance or maybe it was seeing double and thought better of causing a fuss. Whatever the case, it promptly plopped back down onto the ground and leaned against the wall. Its eyes fluttered close after a few seconds, and then it fell back asleep. It looked like Machoke didn't want to battle today.
    Wild Pokemon dealt with, Ivy went over to the smaller path in the room, the one that looked like it was going to be difficult to get through. Since the Gym Leader hadn't said which path he'd preferred, she figured they would choose the less adventurous one. However, upon inspection, she found the path blocked.
    “Look like there's a rock fall about three feet in. We won't be going this way.” They couldn't go back because of the crevice in the other room and the storm raging outside, so that just left the slide. Ivy peered down into the darkness as the slope disappeared from sight and shrugged. “The slide'll be it for now. There are more caves after that.”
    She supposed if the Trainer didn't follow, she and Haji and Vergil could just teleport back up here. It would be easier for them since they had already been here, so they would have a physical location to go along with the mental. It was too dangerous to warp into the unknown. She had heard horror stories about appearing injured after teleporting and such because of it.
    She still felt that small adrenaline rush when she stepped up to the slope, since she wasn't completely sure where it led. It was both exciting and terrifying. That was part of the reason she had become a Ranger. There was a certain thrill to it. To her surprise, Vergil stepped up to her elbow when she put her first foot onto the ice.
    He gave her a certain look, and Ivy knew it was a challenge of sorts. He was highly competitive, and he was probably still miffed that he had had to come here, per Haji's request. He wanted to see if she would do it. She knew she didn't have to really prove anything to him, but in a way she did. Ivy liked doing little things to earn fractions of his respect. She hoped that one day it would evolve into the real thing.
    She lunged her body forward a little, still safely in place, but the jarring motion and knocked into Vergil and caused him to slip a little. He grabbed onto her arm with one limb and almost looked indignant, like she had tried to push him on purpose. Ivy just grinned, though, and then Vergil nodded. They pushed off for real this time, skiing down the slope in just her boots. She hoped that Vergil would save her from running into a rock or something at the bottom if necessary.
    She whooshed into the darkness and curved around the bendy path, slightly bouncing off the walls. Miraculously, she kept her feet, and she thought that was probably Vergil's doing. Still, it was exhilarating.
    The bottom rushed close, marked by the slightly lighter area. The ice abruptly ended, and she and Vergil both did that running motion to slow themselves down, their momentum not letting them just stop. Ivy was breathing heavier, but she was smiling. That had been a rush.
    She looked back to the path to see Haji sliding down in a sitting motion. He made it look graceful, however. The Espeon never looked anything but calm and refined. He shook his head at them as he joined them, like commenting on the rashness of youth. Ivy didn't care.
    As Jakk came down, she looked over to see a pool of icy water, colored aqua blue. Then, there were bubbles that came to the surface. A huge white form latched onto the edge of the pool, pulling its shaggy form up and out of the water. Drops littered the ground, and she saw that area around the water was coated in ice too. The Pokemon had no trouble maneuvering on the ice, however, and as it shook itself off, it stood to its full height. It was large white bear.
    Ivy kept behind the large rock that was in the middle of the room to hopefully stay out of sight for a second. She wanted to give them a second to catch their breath and get settled before having to launch into any sort of action.
    “What about that Beartic?” she asked the Trainer. “They're slightly rare. I think I've only seen one other. Jathan looking for one?”
    AHAHAHA I wonder where this could possibly have come from =P
    ~~~~~

    The Machoke's eyes narrowed as it tried to concentrate on the interlopers in its realm. However, Jakk could see that it wasn't quite ready to fight just yet. The group took a subconscious step backwards. The Machoke correctly interpreted this as a peaceful gesture and it sank back down onto its rear end. The Gym Leader happened to notice as it did so that it was wearing a black fabric belt around its waist. This wasn't the normal power-restricting belt of a Machoke - it must have won this belt in a battle of strength. Tokens like this were prized amongst Pokemon. They were found or won from Trainers and then passed around in contests throughout the wild. Who knows where this garment had originated from? It could have been gifted to the Machoke by a Trainer passing through the Park, or it could have been found on a mountain trail by a Shiftry and traded from Pokemon to Pokemon until one of this Machoke's ancestors migrated to the Park, or anything in-between. This further strengthened my resolve to leave the Wild Fighting-type alone: it was a piece of living history, one that belonged in the wild as a silent testament to all that happened in the world without the influence of humanity.

    Thankfully, the Machoke decided not to fight either. It rested its head against the cave wall and its eyelids began to droop. It wasn't even a full minute since it had stirred and now it was back asleep, which in itself was pretty impressive considering what had just happened to the mountain. The cool temperatures probably had something to do with that. The cold was actually helping Jakk with his scratches - the heat-leeching atmosphere was helping his cuts to close up quicker, except one annoying one on his bicep that insisted on slowly dripping blood down his arm. The young man ignored this as he had dealt with much worse in his time. Once he had accidentally punched through a sand bag down to the concrete underneath. Some of the bones in his hand had been broken and two had actually been shattered. The doctors in the hospital told him that he had been lucky to retain the use of his fingers. As it was, using computers was sometimes a little tricky for him because his fingers were a little stiff when used individually. Jakk had often been wounded in sparring matches with his Pokemon. Few things hurt more than being hit by an Electivire or smacked by the blunt face of a Psycho Cut.

    Jakk pulled himself out of his memories and shoved the PokeDoll back into his backpack. He realised that Ivy was no longer in his field of vision so he turned around to find her. The female Ranger was standing with her Gallade and Espeon looking speculatively down a steep slope. The thin passage they had originally followed became even thinner, and Jakk was quite sure that he wouldn't be able to fit through it.

    As if she could read Jakk's mind, the Ranger spoke up. “Looks like there's a rock fall about three feet in. We won't be going this way. The slide'll be it for now. There are more caves after that.”

    Jakk's mouth curved down slightly. He didn't relish the idea of going down that slope without skis. Before he could voice his objections the woman and the Gallade skied off down the slope, the Pokemon holding onto Ivy's arm. Jakk's eyes widened as he realised the same was expected of him. Balance and poise were not his strong suits. He could almost swear that Haji gave him a small amused smile before he daintily stepped out onto the ice. He immediately swooped down the slope in a sitting position, seemingly as careless as he would ride be riding on a cushion in a car.

    Time seemed to pass slowly as Jakk stared down the slope which seemed to disappear into murky darkness. He took a few deep breaths before stepping out gingerly onto the icy slide. The young man crouched over his feet, trying to approximate the position of the skiers that he had seen on the television. Finally, he realised that he couldn't stall any longer. Jakk took a deep breath and tipped himself into the chute. Immediately, he felt exhilarated. The sensation of being moved by nothing but the sheer force of gravity was a fascinating one. Jakk could understand why so many people loved skiing, and he bet that he would love it even more with some actual skis and actually being above-ground amongst the sunlight and trees as opposed to stuck underneath a mountain.

    Unfortunately, the euphoria wore off soon after. The darkness revealed a smooth but considerable turn to the right. Jakk swore as he realised that he had no idea how to turn. He tried wrenching feet to the right, but that only served to destabilise himself. He then tried leaning to the side, and that worked slightly better. However, he didn't have the time that he needed. The Gym Leader crashed straight into the wall but bounced immediately off. Thankfully, his clothed back was what had made contact with the cave wall as opposed to his bare arms. He certainly did not want any more wounds inflicted there.

    Jakk was just starting to regain control when he saw a much sharper turn to the left up ahead. He had just enough time to swear once more before he plowed face-first into the rock face. Perhaps unfortunately, he rebounded again. This time he found himself sliding down the chute head-first, on his back. The turns in the slope were merciless - they knocked and flipped him around and always seemed to know the exact worst place to jab a sharp piece of rock. Furthermore, each time Jakk slammed into the wall he caused some small pieces of rock and ice to come free and follow him down the chute, into the darkness.

    Finally the Gym Leader saw the end of the chute. He unceremoniously flew into the air and landed in a heap at the Elite Ranger's feet. He was just getting up when the rubble that had followed him down ploughed into him, knocking him further away.

    "Whore," Jakk grunted as he slowly hauled himself to his feet. His spine and groin felt like they had been attacked viciously by a pack of steroid-starved linebackers. He steadfastly refused to look at Ivy, Haji, or the Gallade as he brushed himself down and checked for any injuries. Thankfully, there weren't any, although he sure felt like hell. He almost felt like the mountain itself was trying to pay him back for the earlier Fissure by Kai. Of course, Jakk knew that this was impossible, but if they happened to run across a Legendary Pokemon Jakk would officially be curious. And not in a good way.

    The cave that the group was now in had a pool of what was almost surely ice-cold water in the middle of it. Surrounding the pool was pure white ice, the kind that was next to impossible to secure any kind of traction on. Despite this, a large white Pokemon was pulling itself out of the water with incredible ease. Jakk wasn't sure what kind of Pokemon it was, but he did know one thing - he had never seen it before, even back at the ranch, so Jathan would definitely have some kind of use for it. The young man saw Ivy draw slightly behind a large rock, no doubt to avoid attracting the furry Pokemon's attention. Well, too bad for her - Jakk intended to fight. “What about that Beartic? They're slightly rare. I think I've only seen one other. Jathan looking for one?” she asked.

    "Probably!" Jakk yelled. This of course drew the attention of the bear, which snarled in a curious manner. Jakk grinned and felt his pain and fatigue fly away. He knew exactly who he was going to use to battle. He reached for his belt and was happy to find that all three of his PokeBalls were still attached. Finding them in this cave network while dodging the attacks of an enraged Ice-type would not be any kind of fun at all.

    "Come on out, Jugg!" the young man called. He threw a PokeBall into the air and it burst open, revealing a flash of white light. When the light subsided, a Machamp was standing there. It flexed all of its four arms and shouted a challenge towards the Wild Pokemon. It then looked back at Jakk and grinned. Jugg was one of Jakk's more recent acquisitions - the Superpower Pokemon could also use the Fissure technique, just like Kai. However, unlike Kai, Jugg never missed because of his No Guard ability. Jakk had been able to use this potent combination many times. Sometimes he was even able to use Sasha's psychic powers to increase the battlefield's gravity, and then entomb Flying-type Pokemon. It was always funny to see the look on a Trainer's face when their prize Dragonite or Crobat was defeated by the most unwieldy of Ground-type moves.

    "Jugg, I don't know anything about this Pokemon, seeing as it is an Ice type, so we should probably play it safe to start with," Jakk said to his battle partner. "Start off with a Toxic attack and then create a Light Screen in case it tries any long-range attacks. Let's force it to attack at close range, where we know we can win."

    The Machamp grunted agreement and started making disgusting hocking noises with his nose and mouth. I was never sure how almost all Pokemon could summon the essence of pure poison from within themselves. Lots of hippies claimed it was because all Pokemon had been irrevocably poisoned by humanity's pollution and destruction of the environment, but Jakk had a hard time believing that humanity's bad habits resulted in Entei being able to piss toxins.

    Jugg spat a disgusting gob of purple muck high into the air. It arced down towards the Beartic, and Jakk could only hope that it would hit. He was fairly sure that it would, considering the Beartic probably wouldn't be expecting this kind of attack from a Fighting-type Pokemon. He then watched as Jugg spun a pane of purple energy out of nothingness using his four hands. He then held the pane in front of himself in case the Beartic tried to blast him with a water move or throw some icicles or something.

    @ChainReaction01; The only thing I took from there was the name, actually, since I hadn't seen the show in years at the point I got him. They're actually pretty different, which I like.

    Gender?

    BP#9

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

    Ivy heard a clunk and a bang, and not long after that, Jakk came sliding out of the tunnel head-first. He groaned a little as he got up, muttering something under her breath that she didn't hear. Vergil, however, did, and he narrowed his eyes and took a step toward the Gym Leader before Ivy waved him off. The Gallade didn't like it, but he stayed put, crossing his arms and glaring at the Trainer. She didn't know what all that was about, but she was glad he didn't start any trouble.

    She let Jakk be as he got up and dusted himself off, pointedly not looking at any of them. Ivy saw a couple of scratches, but they weren't life threatening. He was moving a little slower at least, a likely result of getting banged around in the tunnel slide. She couldn't say it didn't give her some small portion of satisfaction, since he acted so tough.

    Of course, she wouldn't have let him get hurt for real. That's why Haji had gone down the slide ahead of him. He watched to make sure the Trainer didn't suffer anything too painful.

    As she ducked out of the way behind the rock, Jakk looked up at the Pokemon she pointed out. She was glad the pool was on the other side of the room since the large bear had sloshed water all over. In these colder conditions, getting wet wouldn't be pleasant.

    The Gym Leader looked curiously at the bear as she asked him about Jathan. Then, he grinned and shouted, “Probably!” It echoed off the walls loudly, drawing the bears attention. That was fine, if he planned to battle it. Vergil scowled at the noise.

    The Beartic looked their way curiously as Jakk pulled out a Pokeball. It stayed put by the water as an explosion of light revealed a large gray Fighting-type. “Come on out, Jugg!” Jakk called. The new Pokemon had four muscled arms and a champion fighter's belt, similar to the one they had just seen. This was Machoke's final evolution, Machamp. This Pokemon was the one she thought of when she thought Fighting-type Gym Leader.

    Jakk then said, “Jugg, I don't know anything about this Pokemon, seeing as it is an Ice type, so we should probably play it safe to start with. Start off with a Toxic attack and then create a Light Screen in case it tries any long-range attacks. Let's force it to attack at closer ranger, where we know we can win.”

    Ivy stepped a few feet backward so she could see the Beartic around the other side of the rock. Generally, Trainers didn't start out with a form of status move, especially something like Toxic. Poison damaged wracked up over time, effectively giving Trainers only a small window to wear the foe down enough for capture before the Toxic made them faint and unable to be caught in a Park Ball. She hoped that the bear didn't stall enough to let that happen. While Jakk wasn't making a great impression on her, she liked Jathan, and Beartic would help advance his career choice. She wanted the capture to work.

    The Machamp then started to hack, like he had a ton of flem in his lungs that he was trying to cough up. It sounded pretty disgusting. Soon, the fighter gathered the junk in his mouth and lunged, spitting as he threw his body forward. A lob of purple goo emerged, tinged with flecks of sickly green. It arched down toward the bear and ended up sticking to its icicle beard, staining the fur.

    The bear shook itself violently as it brushed at its coat, but the gunk wouldn't come out. The toxins had already seeped into its body and would now start severely crippling the wild Pokemon. It was now on a timer.

    While the Beartic reacted, Jugg went to work on his defenses. He put his arms forward, and a nearly-invisible pane of light appeared. The Light Screen shone in seconds as the light from the water bounced off it. That would help the fighter guard against long range attacks. Ivy wasn't really sure how the bear preferred to battle, since she had only seen one other one while she was surveying the frozen lake on the other side of the mountain. It hadn't been hostile.

    The large white bear grumbled in Jugg's direction, clearly not happy with the turn of events. She couldn't say she blamed him. He focused, and then he stomped the ground with a massive force. The ground below Ivy's boots rumbled, and she reached out to brace herself on the rock so she'd keep her feet.

    The pool behind it splashed and rocked, and then it flowed over the lip of the pond, disturbed by the bear's force. Water rushed into the room, coating the floor in a thin layer. Ivy was puzzled at first, but when she made to speak, she caught the puff of her breath floating in the room. Tiny hairs on her arms began to prickle, and she realized it was suddenly much colder than before, even for Oktori.

    She looked over to the Beartic and saw that its hairs had seemingly frozen, prickling up in tiny spikes that would probably be sharp to the touch. The fog of her breathing was more pronounced now, and a light shiver tried to wash over her body. The tips of her fingers were starting to burn from the cold.

    It had to be something the bear was doing, she thought. That cold wasn't a natural one. She thought that Pokemon not from this area, and maybe even some smaller ones that were, would pass out from it, lulled into a dangerous sleep. The cold temperature wasn't the most concerning thing, though. The water that had sloshed onto the floor was quickly solidifying into an underground skating rink. That was going to make moving dangerous.

    The Beartic wasn't done, though. It wasted no time in rubbing its front paws together. Then, it lunged forward, diving onto the ice on its stomach. Instead of plopping to the ground, however, the Beartic eased into a slide and whipped across the floor, aiming at Jugg.

    Ivy thought it was going to slam right into him, but it didn't. Instead, the bear veered to its right and came sailing around the large rock. Ivy and Vergil and to jump close to the rock to get out of the way, gripping onto the stone so that she wouldn't fall on the ice. The Ranger felt the rush of wind and tiny flecks of water splash onto her as it whooshed by. It was so close she could've reached out and touched it.

    The Beartic came sliding into Jugg fast, knocking the heavyweight off his feet in a sudden attack. The gray fighter hit the ground with a thud and the Beartic just kept on going, aided by the slippery floor. It slid all the way back across the room until it splashed into the pool head-first, disappearing under the water. Liquid sloshed over the edge. Ivy didn't think the Ice-type had disappeared from the battle, however, even though it was highly possible that that pool connected some other underground waterways. She could see bubbles coming up to the surface that indicated it was still hanging around. Jakk would have to find some way to fish it out of the water if he wanted to continue the fight.

    Jakk was lucky. The Beartic definitely was not expecting to be on the receiving end of a Toxic attack from a Machamp right at the beginning of the battle. The goopy pile of toxins stuck to the Ice-types icicle beard and the bear started to claw at the purple stains in a fruitless attempt to get them off. The Gym Leader grinned in triumph - that was one of the best places for the Toxic attack to land. The poisonous toxins would be drawn into the Wild Pokemon's system through its mouth and nose and this direct route would poison it much faster than simple skin contact.

    However, it would still take some time. Jugg would have to be careful until the crippling effects of the poison began to kick in. The Superpower Pokemon held the Light Screen in front of itself, preparing for the Beartic's counterattack. And there would definitely be one.

    As it turned out, the counterattack was a lot more subtle and non-confrontational than Jakk expected. The Ice-type growled unhappily before stomping one of its large feet onto the ground. Tiny white columns of vapour began winding up from the floor towards the ceiling. Ice began to creep away from the pool, attempting to cover the entire floor. A sigh leaked out of the Gym Leader as he watched the whiteness expand. Why was it that every single battle today just had to limit his maneuverability?

    The Beartic then dived forwards, heading straight for Jugg. It was moving faster than Jakk would have thought a hulking brute like that could. Jugg held the Light Screen shield out in front of himself, but the Ice-type wasn't preparing a special-based attack. The Beartic slid in a long arc, whipping past Ivy before slamming into Jugg. The Fighting-type lost his balance and because of this he couldn't retaliate. The Beartic sped across the room and dived back into the pool, disappearing in seconds. Bubbles began to rise from underneath the pool, testament to the Beartic's continued presence. However, while it was underwater, Jakk's Machamp couldn't get to it.

    Jakk briefly entertained the notion of having the Machamp get to the pool and use Thunderpunch to shock the Beartic out, but discarded this idea quickly. The Beartic was probably setting up a trap, planning to lure Jugg close and then pull him into the water where he was at a serious disadvantage. Jakk rubbed at his arms as he thought - the cave was now very seriously cold, so cold that Jakk was seriously lamenting not bringing a jumper. His arms were so numb that he couldn't even feel the little fires of all the cuts from the crystal tunnel earlier.

    This thought sparked his first idea. The Beartic must have lowered the temperature in the room for a reason. Perhaps it would slow Jugg's reaction time, or make him more susceptible to freezing. Whatever the reason, it would be good if we could put a stop to the Wild Pokemon's plan.

    "Jugg, cover yourself in a Substitute shield," the Gym Leader ordered.

    The Machamp nodded and got to his feet before placing both of his left hands against his right ones. A puff of white smoke erupted from the ground and covered the Fighting-type completely. Small particles of what looked like miniature clouds stuck to the Machamp, giving him a fleecy appearance. The Substitute would not only keep him warm, it would also absorb damage for a while. That still didn't solve the problem of the pool, though. Hell, Jugg couldn't even get there without slipping over and falling on his face. Before he could do anything about the Beartic, Jakk needed to clear up all of the ice. Immediately his mind jumped back to Kai and his Fissure - Jugg could create Fissures too - but Ivy was already pretty pissed off about the last one, and Jakk didn't want to get into any more trouble than he already was. Thankfully, Jugg had access to a different, much less environmentally-detrimental Ground-typed attack.

    "Next, use a Bulldoze to clear up some of this ice! Keep an eye on the Beartic, it might try something clever," the Gym Leader cautioned his Pokemon.

    Jugg raised his right foot into the air before slamming it down into the ground. Some small cracks began to spread across the floor - hopefully enough of the ice would be cleared up for Jugg to be able to battle safely. Once Jakk knew how much of the floor was safe, he could plan accordingly.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

    Ivy noticed that Jakk was showing a few signs of being cold. He was rubbing at his arms, and the scratches he gained from the icy slide were an angry red that stood out against his bare skin. He still stubbornly refused to put on a jacket, so she didn't feel too bad for him. He likely had one inside is backpack. She couldn't remember if had mentioned it or not. If he didn't have one... Well, this was an icy mountain—not a beach vacation.

    The Ranger shivered a little as she tried to stay as close to the boulder as possible. The floor was slick with ice, and she didn't want to fall. Vergil had the same idea since he was close. Haji was further away, close to the tunnel across from the slide. That would be their way out of here once the battle was done.

    The Trainer thought for a minute, and then the proverbial light bulb clicked over his head. “Jugg,” he said, “cover yourself in a Substitute shield.”

    The Machamp complied with the defensive tactic immediately, hauling himself up from the frozen floor where he fell. He put both sets of fists together so he made a circle with his arms. Then, cloudy white puffs formed around him until they covered his upper half. It looked like one of those fleece jackets if the stuffing inside was glued to the outside canvas.

    It looked warm like duck feathers, so it would probably help against the chill. Not only that, but it would guard against status effects too. Something about the material was really durable and resistant. It would buff his defenses for a while, until the Substitute covering was worn down enough to break. It cost a little bit of energy, though, so Jugg probably wasn't going to be in the business of making a lot of them.

    “Next, use a Bulldoze to clear up some of this ice! Keep an eye on the Beartic, it might try something clever,” Jakk warned.

    Jugg rose his foot and stomped down hard, sending a shockwave through the ground. Tiny cracks appeared in the earth, but it was nothing like Kai's fissure, of which Ivy was glad. They were loud, though, since the ground was frozen as it broke apart. The Ranger could've swore she heard something then, but she didn't catch it before a giant wave of earth rolled over some of the ice, displacing dirt and chunks of frozen ground everywhere. Patches of ice were uncovered, but many places looked safer to stand on.

    She looked over to the pool then, but a cold wind blew, and snow started to fall down. The ceiling above them was now coated in a white layer of snow, and small flecks were starting to rain down. Where was the rest of it coming from? The cold temperature? It had to be something the Beartic was doing.

    It soon became a white-out, making it hard to see even a few feet in front of her. The area around the pool was completely invisible from where they were. The area wasn't exactly filling up with snow—it was just the strong winds that kept blowing it around to make it simulate a real snowstorm.

    The last wave of earth rolled out over the floor, and Ivy swore she heard another noise. It sounded peculiarly like a bear grunt.

    “I don't think the Beartic is in the pool anymore,” she shouted, although it was hard to hear her own voice over the winds. She didn't know if Jakk heard her or not.

    Then, rocks started falling from the ceiling, crashing down and breaking apart on the ground below. Ivy ducked her head and put an arm up as she tried to avoid falling debris. She strained her eyes to take a look at Jugg, and she saw one large rock hit him in the shoulder as it fell. Another one he reached out to punch, crumbling it on impact before it could really hurt him. His defensive coat looked intact still, which would help protect him.

    However, Ivy still couldn't see the bear, though she suspected it was watching them from inside the room. If she remembered right, it had an ability that let it blend in with the snow. It was definitely taking advantage of that now. Jakk would have to be really careful. The bear could pop out of nowhere and strike.

    And it would start attacking harder eventually. It seemed like it was buying a little bit of time now, but that Toxic attack was going to start wearing it down really fast, and once it started, it grew exponentially. That meant the wild Pokemon was going to get more desperate. When they were backed into a corner, they tended to give it everything they had.

    OOC: I guess a male.

    Lots of little cracks crawled through the ice towards the pool, heading away from Jugg's foot. Jakk squinted his eyes, attempting to see how the attack would go, but as he did so the room started to fog up further. Unfortunately for everyone involved the fog didn't simply stay as fog. Small shards of ice began to fall down from the ceiling onto the ground, which further obscured the Gym Leader's vision. He couldn't quite make out what the end result of his Bulldoze attack had been, but at least there were some patches of dirt that looked safe to stand on. Jakk called out for Jugg to move onto one of them and the Fighting-type did so quickly. His toes wriggled happily in the soft earth and Jakk knew that the Pokemon would be glad that he wouldn't have to watch where he was stepping now. At least, as long as he didn't move too far.

    Suddenly, there was a forced grunt-like sound that rolled throughout the room, just barely perceivable over the fine sound of ice striking harder ice. “I don't think the Beartic is in the pool anymore,” Ivy called out, and Jakk nodded. While staying immersed in the water was great defensively, it didn't particularly help out with offense, and that would be worrying the Beartic a lot more at the moment, considering its increasingly-worse poisoning.

    More sounds started to echo throughout the chamber, but these were completely different. Thuds and grating noises filled the air as rocks started to fall all around. One clipped Jugg, and another he just barely managed to punch out of the air. A small one struck Jakk's ear, and he hissed in pain. He groped upwards to check and brought his hand away bloody. Thankfully, his ear was still there - the blood appeared to be issuing from a cut just above the ear. It wasn't a huge drama, the cold atmosphere would stop the blood soon.

    "Man, I don't remember James saying anything about how damn dangerous these Expeditions are," the Gym Leader grumbled.

    The rocks finally stopped falling, and Jakk was able to start thinking about what to do. He couldn't see the Beartic, but that was due to the horrible visibility conditions inside the cavern. It occurred to him that the Beartic might have the Snow Veil ability, which would make it all but impossible for Jugg to find the Ice-type. This meant that Jakk would have to change the weather. Ideally, he would have Jugg use Sunny Day to heat up the area and hopefully stop the snow, but he hadn't yet got around to teaching the Machamp that technique yet. The only weather-affecting move he had was Rain Dance, so that would have to do.

    Just as Jakk was about to tell him friend to perform a Rain Dance, a small memory surfaced. He was talking to one of the other Sinnoh Gym Leaders, the leader of Eterna City. They had mentioned how an Ice-type had put up rain and then swept through their entire team at lightning-fast speed. That meant they would have had access to Swift Swim. Jakk couldn't quite remember what the Pokemon's species had been, but he had a funny feeling it might have been a Beartic. If there was even the slightest chance that this Beartic had Swift Swim, using Rain Dance was not an option. That just meant this would have to be done the easy way. Thankfully the Substitute shield was still up, so Jugg wouldn't have any problems with the Beartic's next attack, unless it was something incredibly tricky.

    "Jugg, prepare a Vital Throw!" Jakk exclaimed.

    The Machamp crouched low over his pile of dirt and extended his arms out wide, like he was attempting to catch four baseballs simultaneously. The Vital Throw wasn't used very often in competitive battling, because it relied on the opponent striking first, and in a speed-based environment this was not a good thing. However, in this scenario, it was perfect. Jugg was still protected by his Substitute, which meant that the Beartic would have to attack sooner or later, keeping in mind the Toxic poison racing through its system. And when it finally struck, the brilliance of the Vital Throw would shine - it never failed. As soon as the Beartic revealed itself, Jugg would send it flying.

    @ChainReaction01; My bleh post is bleh.

    BP#11

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

    Jakk grumbled something, but Ivy didn't catch it over the roar of the storm. She held close to the rock in the center of the room so that she wouldn't be in the way. These weren't great conditions for a battle, but the problem with Trainers seeking Pokemon in the Park was that the wild ones often had home field advantage.

    At least the Bulldoze had covered up some of the ice patches, giving Jugg a decently safe place to stand. One wrong move off of those spaces, however, could easily topple the large fighter.

    Ivy could hear the Beartic moving, but with the whipping wind, it was hard to tell where it was coming from. Jakk and his Pokemon were likely having trouble too. When he called out his next plan, she wasn't really surprised.

    “Jugg, prepare a Vital Throw!” he called.

    That move required the user to wait for the foe to strike, which is what they were going to have to do anyway, since none of them could even see the wild Pokemon. There was the issue of taking damage, but at least the Machamp had the Substitute covering on. It looked pretty healthy yet, so it wasn't going to be falling off on him.

    The fighter tensed and got into a sturdy position with his feet shoulder length apart and his core solid. His arms flexed and went wide so that he would be ready to grab his foe whenever he got close. The fluffy coat made the pose look a little strange, but it would do him good.

    Then, Ivy thought she saw something move in the blizzard. She kept one hand on the rock and squinted her eyes as she took a step forward, peering into the white-out. Was it over by Haji? She couldn't quite tell. She could feel the Psychic-type cat just fine, but she was slightly worried. She didn't want the wild Pokemon thinking that Haji was his target.

    Suddenly, Vergil reached out and grabbed her shoulder, yanking her backward. She slammed into the rock hard, but she had no time to complain even though it hurt. A white-furred form came sailing past, kicking out snow as it zoomed by. Another step forward and the Beartic would've ran right into her.

    He kept going, however, aiming for the Machamp and not her Pokemon. There was a loud whoosh of air, and then inky tendrils of dark energy slashed through the air like claw tracks as the wild Pokemon lashed out. It must've been a Shadow Claw.

    The attack ravaged Jugg's covering so much that Ivy could hear the fuzzy substitute tear. It didn't fall completely off, though it didn't look too great. That was mostly because Jugg took action.

    The Machamp reached out and grabbed onto the bear, heaving his body and straining his muscles for a throw. Using all four of his arms, he slammed the Beartic down onto the icy floor. The entire cavern rumbled with the force, and the bear called out in response.

    Then, he did something tricky. Instead of letting go to ease his wounds, the Beartic grabbed onto Jugg. It was a poor hold, considering he was laying on the ground and the Machamp was not, but nevertheless, he grabbed enough of the fighter to cause some trouble.

    With a heave, the bear pulled the Machamp over himself, causing the large fighter to trip and crash to the ground. With a powerful shove, the Beartic gave him locomotion, and Jugg slid and tumbled across the ice. Ivy could already see where he was headed.

    Jugg was slowing down, but she didn't know if it was enough to prevent him sliding right into the icy pool. The bits of upturned earth tugged at his already waning substitute covering, leaving bits of it.

    “Jakk, I would hurry up and do something!” she called, not wanting to see the fighter get hurt.

    Big Pokemon like that had trouble swimming, and in icy cold water, their muscles were affected quicker because of their size. It wouldn't take long for the cold to disable him, and the slippery surfaces would make it hard for him to grab anything. Even more so, the extra substitute cover would gather water, and if it didn't fall off, it would weigh him down, making it ever harder to get out.

    Ivy sent a mental alert to Haji, asking him to take action if necessary. She wasn't sure if Vergil would help but...

    “Vergil, if something bad happens, get ready to bail Jugg out, okay?” she asked. She didn't hear his answer if he gave one—she was too focused on what was happening.

    Jakk was going to have to think quickly on this one. Or else.

    Chainy's Post. BMG was down. He can edit this if he wants.

    We waited for what seemed like an hour, but Jakk knew it couldn't have been more than a minute, especially considering the fact that the Beartic couldn't afford much time with the toxins racing through its system. He started to feel kind of bad about the whole affair - if he didn't catch the Ice-type, he was dooming it to a slow recovery period and perhaps even death, if the sickness burnt too much fat. However, this served to redouble his wish to catch the Wild Pokemon - it was now in both of their best interests.

    Suddenly the Beartic emerged from the fog and ice. Black inky tendrils were drawn through the air behind its claws, making it look like the Ice-type was ripping the fabric of reality itself. It barreled into Jugg, tearing at his protective layer. To an uninitiated fighter, it looked like the Beartic was moving too fast for the Machamp, but this was not the case. As the Ice-type's claws were tangled up in the Substitute shroud, Jugg gripped the Wild Pokemon with all four of his hands and used its momentum to swing it up into the air. The Beartic moved in a parabola over the Fighting-type before smashing into the ground, head-first. It was enough to make Jakk wince, and he was a veteran brawler.

    As it turned out, the Beartic was literate in the martial arts too. Even as it was thrown to the ground, the Ice-type grabbed Jugg's midsection and strained. Somehow it managed to summon enough strength to throw the Machamp in turn. Instead of going for a straight slam, however, the Ice-type sent Jugg sliding towards the pool. This immediately dawned on Jakk as a very bad thing - Machamp weren't great in water to begin with, and in this constricting and freezing water it would be even worse.

    “Jakk, I would hurry up and do something!” Ivy yelled. Jakk cursed mentally as he realised he was wasting time. He was supposed to be a combat expert and here the Ranger's mind was working faster than his.

    "Jugg, use an Ice Punch Spike to get some grip, and then hit the Beartic with a Bullet Punch!" The Gym Leader called out. The Ice Punch Spike was a technique developed with long hard practice with its basis in the elemental punches. Using either Fire, Ice, or Thunderpunch, Jugg created a spike of energy in his hand and then could either use it as a dagger or throw it at a distant enemy. It was kind of like how other Pokemon could use the elemental fang techniques to shoot beams of energy from their mouth. This had been hard for Jugg to learn, but Jakk liked to use long-range attacks in his Gym quite frequently, especially considering his Gym was of the Fighting type. Being able to throw these spikes gave Jugg a ranged attack, if only a low-powered one.

    He wouldn't be using it long ranged right now, though. Even as the Machamp sped towards the pool, he raised his top right arm into the air. The fog and falling hail coalesced around his fist, and a jagged icicle appeared, gripped between his fingers. The Fighting-type slammed the spike into the ground, creating an awful squealing sound as ice dug against ice. Jakk's hope wasn't that the spike would stop Jugg completely - he was hoping that the spike would give Jugg just enough traction to get moving with his Bullet Punch technique. It'd be even easier for him to do so if he happened across a patch of earth on his slide, but the Hail impaired Jakk's vision, and he couldn't quite see what was going to happen.
