    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: @Buoysel

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“It's a perfect day outside... yet here I am, stuck on paper duty,” Makina sighed to herself, looking outside one of the windows in the outpost while waiting for one of the secretaries to accept the documents. While she loved her job, paperwork was one thing she could definitely do without. Permits here, Trainer forms there, a few shipment orders thrown into the mix... who knew that a Park would need so many forms?

A ghostly Pokemon hovered closely behind Makina, giving a muted snicker in response. Pierrot was one of the more mischievous members on her team as well as one of the oldest, having received the Banette as an egg from one of her old friends. Despite this, she rarely used him for her daily tasks around the island, hence why Pierrot was assisting her currently instead of Aria.

After what seemed like an eternity, someone finally appeared to relieve her of the satchel. The secretary, a young woman who appeared to be close to Makina's age, gave her a puzzled expression as if trying to figure out why the Ranger was here. “How long have you been waiting here? We didn't receive word that someone was coming until a few minutes ago.”

“I've been standing here for almost half an hour! Didn't you see a Banette-” A sudden laughter emanating from behind Makina interrupted her, and it took almost all of her willpower to not verbally lash back at the Pokemon in front of the the now thoroughly confused secretary. “Never mind. Either way, here are the papers you requested from the front gate,” Makina finished, forcing a smile as she handed over the satchel.

As the woman gave a short nod and retreated into the back room, Makina turned quickly around and glared at her partner. “What were you even doing back there, if you didn't even inform anyone that I was even here?” she fumed at Pierrot, growing more irritated due to the fact that the Banette still appeared pretty pleased with himself.

Before Makina could continue, the Marionette Pokemon appeared to pull out an item from his shadowy form- a piece of paper from the looks of it. Judging from the small hole at the top, this had been tacked to a board. He offered the paper to his partner, as if this was the reason for the prank.

Makina accepted the paper grudgingly, now more curious than irritated. She recognized it to be an Expedition form, filled out by those who wished to have a Ranger run them through the park. After skimming the form, the name at the top appeared to jump out at her; the requester was Argent, a fellow Ranger that she had helped out earlier when his run had been put to a halt due to a sick Ranger. Apparently he wished to explore the Botanic Gardens this time. This was perfect, as this outpost was right beside the gate entering this area.

“You took this from the request board?” Makina asked the Banette, impressed that he had done such a thing. Usually the board was closely watched by all members, with runs being grabbed almost as soon as they were pinned up. He must have took the form almost immediately. “Well, let's head outside then! Someone must have noticed that this is gone now, which means Argent will be on his way soon.” With a nod to Pierrot, Makina exited the Outpost and headed towards the Gardens' front gate.

Argent, on a day off -- approved by the higher-ups, of course. Sitting in his home in Olivine City, Johto -- the home he shared with his fiancée, Clara. However, Clara was out right now, although Argent wasn't sure where exactly she was. In her absence, he was extremely bored. He enjoyed being away from the office, though. He supposed he should go for a walk or something -- it was a rather nice spring day here. A walk along the beach would probably cheer him up. He smiled at the thought of it. Lifting himself from his couch, a little less energetically than he could have managed, he headed for the door, lifting some of the various Poké Balls as he went -- five in total. Clipping them to his jeans, he slung his satchel over one shoulder and headed out of the door. Immediately after stepping outside, the refreshing sea breeze drifted up from the coast, filling his nostrils. Chimey, the Chimecho that was accompanying Argent around, simply floated by his side, the slight breeze making her jingle slightly -- the Wind Chime Pokémon species was aptly named as such. He quickly walked down a few streets, his sandals clapping on the cobblestones as he made his way. He smiled at and greeted a few passers-by, but said not much else.

As he approached the beach, he sighed with relief. The waves crashing in and out of the shore, the sand glistening preciously in the sunlight, the sounds of Pokémon echoing into the shore -- everything was perfect for a walk out. Chimey was also thinking along the same lines, her eyes practically glowing with enthusiasm, glad for the stillness of the moment. They set off side by side. Nothing needed to be said. Their psychic connection flowed, their thoughts becoming intertwined with one another in ultimate companionship -- it wasn't romantic interest or anything. That would just be silly. It was just that they had spent so much time together, spent most of their lives together, that their relationship together couldn't be described in mortal terms. Argent hopped playfully through the sand, picking his way along easily. A few Pokémon swooped by now and then, hoping to snatch some morsels from the human, but fled once more as they realised he had brought no food with him. His walk, otherwise, was wonderful. And he certainly didn't get bored. However, he hadn't spent all too long outside on his walk.

A bit chilled when he entered his house again, he quickly made himself a cup of tea and sat down at the desk in his living room. Pressing a button on his computer, the machine whirred into life, and, once it had loaded everything properly, he signed into his account and swiftly found the National Park website. The walk had reminded him how he loved going on a run -- with a few Pokémon at his side, everything was good. He had decided that, on his day off, he'd go and get himself on his own run, to catch some more Pokémon. Making a sign-up quickly, he waited until he'd been notified until it had been claimed -- which was practically within a minute. Runs these days were claimed in the office almost as soon as they were up, so Argent wasn't really expecting a long wait. Gulping down the rest of his tea, he lazily released Cassidy, his Clefable, from her Poké Ball.

"Hey, Cassidy. Could you teleport me 'n Chimey to the gates of the Botanic Gardens?" Argent chided her softly. "We're going on a run now -- you, me, Chimey, Assan, Arcane and Mampfax." The others he had mentioned -- Assan, Arcane and Mampfax -- were respectively his Floatzel, Sigilyph and Snorlax. She nodded exuberantly, and grabbed his wrist without further delay. Chimey wrapped her ribbon around Argent's forehead, like some kind of bandanna. Argent laughed a little, but his laugh was cut off as he was taken out of his normal dimensionality for a moment, driven through space in a far shorter time than it should have taken. It was really a very forceful thing to go through, but Argent had gotten used to it by now. A split-second later, Argent was standing at the gates of Botanic Gardens, where he had chosen to embark on another run -- coincidentally, his first run was in Botanic Gardens, and it was here that he captured Mampfax. He had left the Park soon after capturing him, the creature being just a Munchlax back then. A lot had happened since that time, and he didn't regret it. Well, much of it, anyway.

While he was waiting, Argent brought his PokéPlayer out from his satchel, loading a Girafarig Voice Disk into it. Simply pressing the play button, a short playback of Girafarig's cry resounded into the air. Hopefully it would attract any nearby Girafarig.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: @Buoysel.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

As Makina walked closer towards the gate heading into the Gardens, the cry of a Pokemon resounded in the air. Judging from the direction it was emanating from, it was coming from dead ahead. Don't tell me some of the locals were messing with the gate, she thought to herself, increasing her pace and feeling slightly worried now. It was rare enough to be almost unheard of, but there were times that the Pokemon in the area would loiter around close to the gate entrances. The last time this had happened, a group of Magnemite were trying to feed off the power used to operate the door in the Plant.

The gate came within sight in no time but, instead of a wild Pokemon, there was a young man and a Chimecho waiting patiently in front of the entrance. Makina recognized Argent and Chimey almost immediately, and her eyes rested on the recording device in the fellow Ranger's hands- a Pokeplayer.

“So that's what I heard! And here I thought it was one of the locals,” Makina grinned, holding out a hand to Argent. “Nice to see you again. Don't suppose introductions are in order this time, save for possibly Pierrot here.”

Hearing his name, the Banette slunk out from his hiding place behind Makina and nodded to the two newcomers. When he saw Chimey he gave a miscievious smirk, as if imagining all of the pranks he could pull on the Psychic-type.

“Behave yourself, Pierrot,” Makina warned her partner, then set to work on opening the way into the Gardens. As the gate swung open, she motioned for Argent to go on ahead and locked it back in place once everyone was inside.

The Gardens on this day, like many other days, was vibrant in the green of plants and the assorted shapes of flora surrounding the area. The air had a humid feel to it, but was otherwise comfortable. While there was indeed a path leading further into the park, the trail was almost overrun by the stray plants that had taken to seed in the ground.

They had hardly begun to look for a suitable path to trudge ahead on when a low buzzing sound from above caused Makina to look up, trying to discover the source of the noise. The buzzing grew louder as the Pokemon lowered itself down towards the two humans, clearly curious to see what they were up to.

“Looks like he heard your player, though I would hardly call it a Girafarig,” Makina said, pointing to the Bug-type. “Interested in a Combee?

Soon enough, someone had curiously came to them, obviously surprised by the noise that Argent's Poképlayer had just made. He glanced over the person, not recognising the female at first glance, but as she came closer, his brain clicked -- this was the woman that had taken over his Mt. Oktori run whenever Elisa had became ill whilst travelling through a wall. She had guided him to his final capture, Sneasel, after which he had promptly left the Park, having spent a long time in there in the first place. She also seemed to recognise him from the last time they met, which would mean that the run could start quicker than usual, and in a more amiable fashion -- Argent liked making friends with the other Rangers, especially those that took him on runs after their initial meeting. In any case, he cracked a smile at her as she arrived, some Ghost-type floating behind her back. Since the creature was blocked from his line of sight by the woman, Argent couldn't identify what exactly the beast was, but he'd probably find out sometime soon.

"So that's what I heard! And here I thought it was one of the locals," Makina exclaimed, a wide grin on her face. She extended a hand to Argent, which he reached out to and grasped in a friendly way, shaking it gently. "Nice to see you again. Don't suppose introductions are in order here, save for possibly Pierrot here."

On hearing his name, the previously unidentified creature peeked around Makina's legs. He gave a mischievous smirk in Chimey's direction, causing her to shudder a little from such a strange look. He seemed like he was imagining all the horrid pranks that he could pull on the Wind Chime Pokémon -- in fact, that appeared to be what he was thinking, on a first glance at his mind. Chimey's automatic reflex with newcomers was to skim along the surface of their mind, undetected, to pick up thoughts, emotions, impressions and intentions. This reflex had helped Argent out a lot in the past, although it wasn't so helpful any more now that Argent wasn't a trainer, travelling the region. However, some shady characters had passed through the Park before, so of course that was probably an example of how Chimey had been using this to help nowadays. In any case, the Banette's intentions did not seem to be beneficial for the Psychic-type.

"Behave yourself, Pierrot," Makina warned her Pokémon, before unlocking the Gardens gate, letting Argent and Chimey inside. She stepped inside herself alongside her companion, and swiftly shut the gate, locking it now that she was on the other side. The atmosphere of the Gardens was rather pleasant, although the air was a little too humid for Argent's tastes. Plants twisted over the stone path, making it unclear what way to go. Makina was deliberating on a direction whenever a buzzing noise distracted her. Argent looked over, and a three-faced floating thing was flying to them.

"Looks like he heard your player, though I would hardly call it a Girafarig," Makina said, pointing towards the Bug-type rather obviously. "Interested in a Combee?"

"No thanks, Makina. Can we continue on, please?" Argent asked, pressing the 'play' button on his Poképlayer once more as he waited for Makina to reply. GIRAFARIG NOISES ABOUND.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: @Buoysel.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

"No thanks, Makina. Can we continue on, please?" Argent asked, focusing his attention back on his Pokeplayer. Soon the device began to emit the cry of a Girafarig once more.

Thankfully, either Combee had taken the hint or had no interest in us; it slowly buzzed away without a second glance, clearly intent on heading off elsewhere. Once it had disappeared out of sight, Makina gave the sign to move on ahead, deciding that the best place to start would be the original path. While it had become somewhat overgrown, the trail was still fairly easy to follow. Plus, it was unlikely that it would just go in a straight line; there was bound to be a fork or two along the way.

“Is there anything that you were looking for in particular here? Other then Girafarig, of course,” Makina asked conversationally, nodding over to the Pokeplayer. While she was somewhat curious to hear Argent's response, the question was more a way to break the constant droning of the Disk more than anything else. While she didn't particularly dislike Girafarig, any noise could get annoying after a while.

A cry from up ahead, one tinged with annoyance, grabbed their attention. As they approached, the culprit was revealed to be a young Pokemon trying to reach a Berry just out of its reach. The creature's arms were hardly long enough to grab the prize dangling right above it, and the eggshell still attached to the wild Pokemon's body appeared to weigh it down as well.

“That's one stubborn Togepi,” Makina said, grinning at seeing such determination. “Want to help it out?”

"Is there anything that you were looking for in particular here? Other than Girafarig, of course," Makina inquired as a way to pass the time. Argent realised that his disk was still playing, and promptly stopped it -- the noise was probably annoying her. He looked over to her, glad that she was taking an interest in what he would have liked to come away with from the place. He smiled gratefully, but it was, in truth, a little wistful. The Combee hadn't really got the feeling up of 'there are great things to come!' in all honesty. However, Argent believed that he may as well put a good face on his disappointment at the first encounter -- first encounters were not always the best, and they usually never showed what was to come.

"Well, I've been considering it -- there are a lot of Pokémon that I'd take from the place. I s'pose that, apart from Girafarig, I'm mostly looking for... well, plenty. Deerling, Swablu, Cottonee, Buneary, Glameow, Castform, Bouffalant, Cacnea... just off the top of my head. Any of those would be great if we encounter them," he replied, having ticked the things off of his fingers. He hadn't exactly revised them or anything, but he was sincere in that he would have loved to encounter any of the Pokémon he'd listed, and maybe a few more. He already owned quite a few of the Pokémon that appeared in the Botanic Gardens, so he was thinking that he may have a hard time finding something that he'd capture with no qualms, although he believed there was still an extensive list of the Pokémon he had yet to acquire. He was slowly becoming a collector of sorts, although that probably came with his 'professor' side -- outside of the Park, Argent was actually a researcher, but he conducted his own instead of working for the other regional Professors. He still loved being a ranger over being a researcher, if he was honest, but they both brought their special thrills to him, and each enabled him to do different things with the other. For example, the National Park had a plethora of Pokémon that he could capture for his research (and for battling, of course), and his research enabled him to know more about the Park's Pokémon.

They trundled on together, and Argent's thoughts were disrupted by a sharp cry from up ahead -- evidently the one of a Pokémon. He quickened his pace a little, but they eventually came to the place where the noise was coming from. Evidently enough, the Pokémon was a just a baby Pokémon -- Togepi. They were one of the more rare species, normally native to the Johto region -- Argent's home region. He already had a Togekiss -- their final evolution -- of his own, so it wasn't necessary for him to capture another one. He knew that this counted as his next encounter. It was straining itself to reach a berry that it would never in a million years be able to grab in that form. It was looking pretty determined to get the thing, though, and before he knew it, Makina had turned to him.

"That's one stubborn Togepi," Makina commented, grinning like a loon on loon tablets. "Want to help it out?"

"Sure. Can we continue on afterwards, though, please?" Argent asked, but before waiting for an answer, he turned to his Chimecho.

I suppose that you want me to use my psychic power to get the berry from the tree and give it to the Togepi, am I right? Chimey said, already gathering in her energy.

Er-- Argent asked, but his thought was muffled by Chimey. She understood. In any case, the berry on the tree was glowing a blue colour, and she tugged it off the tree telekinetically, easily lifting it down from the tree in reach of the Togepi.

"There. Job done. May we continue on?" Argent asked simply. GIRAFARIG NOISES ALSO ABOUND HERE BECAUSE ARGENT PLAYED HIS DISK ONCE MORE.

OOC: @Buoysel. Short post is short, but wanted to get this up before trying to get some sleep.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

"Sure. Can we continue on afterwards, though, please?" Argent asked, then immediately looked over at Chimey. The two appeared to be conversing with one another telepathically judging from the long silence, along with the fact that the Chimecho directed her attention over to the Togepi after a short moment.

A faint blue outline formed around the Berry, and almost immediately after the treat fell from its branch, landing directly on top of the Togepi's head. The Pokemon blinked as if in a daze, then slowly looked over at Chimey. It took a step forward, as if it was about to attack, and thought better of it. Instead, the baby Pokemon simply tossed over a small object over to the Chimecho, then ran further off the Garden path.

“Looks like Togepi was grateful for the help,” Makina said, peering down to look at the object. “That's a Red Apricorn if I recall correctly. Collect more of those, and you can have a custom Ball made.”

Before either human could pick up the object, a small pink form darted out of a nearby brush, running over to the Apricorn and playing with the object as if it was a ball. For the moment, it appeared oblivious to everything else.

“Well then... interested in a Skitty?” Makina asked.

Before leaving the group, Togepi tossed the item that it had been trying so steadfastly to reach in Chimey's direction. Makina made some comment or other about the item, even though Argent was fully aware as to what it was. However, before he could scoop it from the ground, a flash of pink passed by and pounced on the sphere. It rolled it between its paws, back and forth, as if it was some kind of plaything. Argent smiled, finding the antics of the Skitty cute in the extreme. Chimey looked a little flustered at the youngster's actions, but remarked upon nothing to Argent. The Skitty was so involved in its own play that it seemed to ignore the party that it had so quickly bounced in front of, which would be something that could work to their advantage if he decided to capture the Pokémon -- but Skitty were rather easy to come across, and he was sure he could get it some other way. Before Makina had even asked the question, the answer was poised on his lips already, prepared to reply once the words did come out.

"Well, then... interested in a Skitty?" Makina asked.

"Er, no thanks, Makina," Argent replied, a little too quickly. He didn't want to disappoint the Ranger, in all honesty -- the most exciting part of taking a run was watching the battles, of course, but unless something actually came up that he actually wanted, then he wouldn't be battling any time soon. As he waited for Makina to reply, his Girafarig Voice Disk sounded off for a fourth time that run, although he was doubtful that he'd actually encounter one if he hadn't already. He bent down and stroked the kitty cat's head lightly, trying to slyly drag the Red Apricorn away from the Pokémon. He hoped that the thing wouldn't retaliate, or he was definitely in for some serious scratches.

"Er, no thanks, Makina," Argent replied quickly, kneeling down to scratch the Skitty's large ears. While he did this, his Pokeplayer began to play its inserted disk, filling the air with the sound of a Girafarig once more. As the Skitty purred in contentment, He quickly swiped the Apricorn away from the feline creature. As he stood up once more, however, the Skitty firmly latched itself to the cuff of Argent's pants, not causing any damage to him but was clearly trying to get a secure hold.

Makina tried to keep her face straight, but was quickly failing to do so. Instead, so pulled out a Pokedoll from her pack and waved it at Argent, raising an eyebrow questioningly. As Argent nodded and pulled out the required money from his pocket, Makina placed the Doll next to the wild Skitty. Immediately the young Pokemon pounced upon the toy, completely ignoring anything else for now. Seeing that they had an opening to move on, the group continued along the path.

After traveling for what felt like forever, Makina was beginning to become firmly convinced that either all the local Pokemon had been scared off by the Girafarig disk, or they were having a simple run of bad luck. Thankfully, there appeared to be an opening in the plants surrounding them, leading to a less-explored area of the Gardens. Before Makina could ask which way Argent wished to go, a large blur of brown erupted from the brush directly to their right. The Pokemon's twin heads were chattering in unison to themselves, as if bickering about something.

“So, how about a Doduo?” Makina asked Argent.

As the Skitty gave a pleased sort of noise, Argent swiped the Apricorn from between its paws, putting it into his own possession. He smirked slightly, but the Skitty seemed none too pleased. It leapt upon his trousers, digging its claws in to get a firm hold of him. Makina was trying to conceal a smile, and Argent looked helplessly back over at her. The Skitty wasn't actually hurting in any way, but he was sure that he couldn't proceed on the run with a feline hanging from his trousers. The small, pink creature meowed at him repetitively as Makina pulled a Poké Doll from her bag, and Argent sighed with relief at the proposition. She waved it about at Argent, and he nodded in reply. He managed to stop the kitty from attaching itself to his pocket long enough to withdraw some money and waving it at Makina wildly. She obliged, and lobbed the Poké Doll towards the Skitty. The cat did a fantastical flip off of Argent's trousers, pouncing immediately upon the Clefairy-like plushie. The youngster, now absorbed in its new toy, was not paying any attention to the group now. Argent handed over the money to Makina, and the two, alongside Chimey and Pierrot the Banette, travelled onwards.

It seemed like they had been walking for ages, with Argent simply dandering about behind Makina, who was leading the way for him and his wind chime companion. Quite a while passed before they came into an opening of the not-so-trim plants that seemed to be absolutely everywhere. Argent was grateful as he emerged from a mass of vines, stepping out into one of the lesser-known areas within the Botanic Gardens. Makina was about to say something, seemingly, as she stopped for a moment -- but she was interrupted by a brown flash that burst from the shrubs near them. The Pokémon, stilling itself, seemed to actually divide into two at the neck... it had two heads. Each was squawking at the other, so they presumably hadn't noticed the four travellers yet. Argent sighed slightly -- Doduo. He, admittedly enough, didn't want to capture this Pokémon either. This was really not shaping up to be a good run at all -- five encounters in, and all he'd encountered were fairly common Pokémon that didn't really interest him.

"So, how about a Doduo?" Makina inquired, but the reply was already hovering on Argent's lips.

"No thanks, Makina. Will we just go straight on ahead?" The pre-loaded Girafarig Voice Disk played for its fifth and final time that it would be allowed to this run, and Argent sighed. No Girafarig had showed up thus far, so Argent's chances at this stage were fairly slim. He hoped his Swablu Disk would have a better chance at success when he went to use it.

"No thanks, Makina. Will we just go straight on ahead?" Argent asked, clearly disappointed to see yet another common Pokemon. At that moment, his Pokeplayer let off a final Girafarig cry before dying, the disk now fully spent.

Thankfully, whatever Doduo was arguing about with itself appeared to take its full attention; they managed to slip by without even a single glance from the wild Pokemon. While Pierrot faltered a moment, clearly ready to create some mischief with the creature, Makina managed to pull back the Banette just in the nick of time.

The path began to thin out a bit, leading to a more wide-open area. In this area, fruit trees of every shape and size surrounded them, their branches laden with their spoils. While a few appeared half-eaten, the culprits appeared to have absconded long ago judging from the looks of it.

It was near one of these these trees that Makina spotted what appeared to be a large puff of cotton on the ground, appearing somewhat wet and shaking slightly despite there being no wind in the area. As she kneeled down to take a closer look, two beady orange eyes stared back at her fearfully.

“Looks like we stumbled upon a Cottonee,” Makina remarked quietly. “The wind must have carried it here, though looks like it won't be going anywhere for a while.”

    OOC: Cottonee is male, please.

As the Girafarig Disk's noise died down, Argent knew that that was the last time. He sighed quietly to himself, not pleased that the Girafarig Disk had been used in his run with no success whatsoever. Of course, that hadn't been fully proven yet, but his inklings were usually later proved true, which was a bit of a downer on the trainer. He was actually hoping to get the Girafarig, but his incredible bad luck so far on this run seemingly didn't want him to encounter one -- so he didn't. It was a shame, really. Girafarig was something that he was really aiming for here, but he'd just have to fall back on other choices -- perhaps, soon enough, he could use his Swablu Voice Disk. There had to be more luck with that one, surely? Argent placed the PokéPlayer back in his bag for the time being. If his next encounter wasn't anything special, then he'd put the Swablu Disk in and set that to playing over the few encounters that would come after his next one. He was just hoping that it wouldn't be for a while. His run had been rotten so far, and he was truly disappointed at the amount of disinteresting Pokémon -- discluding, perhaps, the Skitty -- that had appeared. Of course, the Doduo marked his fifth encounter, but that was still five encounters down the drain, unfortunately. Ten remained after that, and if the first five were anything to go by, he was almost sure that the remaining two-thirds of the run wouldn't be anything special. His previous runs hadn't actually proven so bad in the past, so he pushed the negative thoughts to the corner of his brain. He thought that, just maybe, the run might turn around or something -- surely all the Pokémon they encountered wouldn't be so disappointing?

He didn't exactly mean to offend any of the Pokémon by thinking like that, though. He knew they were all special in their own rights, and they were all unique, but, in honesty, they hadn't been creatures that he had been looking for. He had only been to the Botanic Gardens once in the past, however, on his own, personal run, and he did manage to get away with a Munchlax that time -- even if he captured one Pokémon that he liked, maybe that would be all he needed. It probably wasn't the best thing to just come out with the one, however -- he was aiming for about three, in all honesty. The list that he had mentally amassed was not, on the whole, unreasonable -- but then again, he'd be lucky to encounter anything actually on the list. At one point, Skitty had been on there -- and still was, as a matter of fact -- but the point remained that Skitty were a lot easier to obtain than other Pokémon, so he didn't think that capturing one through the Park would really be worth his while. He was holding out for some of the better Pokémon, as a matter of fact, even if he did sort of doubt that they would spring up at any point. In any case, now that Girafarig was no longer an option, he'd have to just hope that they encountered some of the other Pokémon that Argent was interested in within the Botanic Gardens -- and he supposed, if it was rare enough, he could capture it anyway to trade to someone else for something he was interested in.

Pierrot, Makina's Banette, was trying to cause some mischief with the Doduo, but his owner managed to pull him out of the way in the nick of time, thereby saving them a lot of complication with the avian creature. Argent smiled at the behaviour of the Ghost-type, which reminded him a lot of how his Feraligatr, Cocodrilo, acted most of the time. Cocodrilo had really gotten him into trouble sometimes, as, from time to time, he took things a little too far -- that was when Argent decided that taking the large-jawed Pokémon to the Park was not a good idea. The Banette seemed to leer a lot at Chimey, which made her slightly edgy -- she despised Dark-types, but Ghost-types were a bit freaky to be about, in her opinion. There was, of course, that complication with the Gengar who repeatedly tried hitting on her -- she didn't actually like that one bit. Of course, they were compatible breeding partners, but Chimey thought that breeding with such a 'big-headed baffoon' was completely out of the question. It wasn't that Argent didn't agree with her -- he didn't really want her to breed, if he was truthful with himself -- but it was rather the way she handled these unwanted attentions that amused him. Her reactions to Pokémon of the types she was weak to were never very pleasant, although she was usually polite to them -- however, she was always unreasonably... well, unreasonable, with Dark-types. However, there weren't actually any Dark-types to come across here, so he was pretty sure that the Wind Chime Pokémon would not be unfairly violent with any creatures.

As they walked on, the path that was 'straight ahead', as Argent had put it, began to thin a little bit, and so walking on it became a little harder. Of course, for anyone, it wasn't exactly a challenge -- anyone could walk on a path without falling off, except, perhaps, the morbidly obese. Or people who were extremely unbalanced. So basically morbidly obese people. In any case, Argent was wandering along this suddenly thinned path, but this led to a more open area, with plenty of trees about the place. Argent found the area rather soothing, and it wasn't really as humid. Looking into the sky, it was actually rather clear, and it was a pleasant spring day in the Gardens. The sun was shining like two short shining things. Argent looked to the trees -- some of them looked like they had been half-swallowed. Some parts of the trees had juicy fruits on them, but other parts of those trees seemed to have been mauled. Terribly mauled. However, there was not a creature really to be seen here, as far as Argent could tell. He looked to Makina, as she had stopped -- he was waiting for some kind of instruction, but her focus seemed to zoom in on something that Argent hadn't yet noticed. As he looked down to where she was looking, he started a little in surprise -- it seemed like a ball of fluff was sitting there, but it was really a one-foot-tall creature. Makina kneeled down to take a closer look at the Pokémon. The creature's amber eyes, while cute, stared, quite full of fear, at the human.

"Looks like we stumbled upon a Cottonee," Makina commented. She had a knack for stating the obvious. "The wind must have carried it here, though looks like it won't be going anywhere for a while."

The sopping Pokémon looked appealingly to Argent, but this was the first creature that he had considered -- seriously considered -- capturing. "I think I'll battle this one, actually, Makina," Argent said, nodding slightly. Chimey glanced over at him, tapping into his thoughts as easily as anyone would read a book, listening to his unspoken plans. She was searching for one fact, however, one detail -- she understood. She wasn't going to be used in this battle. Argent often saved her for other battles, as a matter of fact, so she wasn't surprised that she wasn't going to be put into the action immediately. Besides, she rather liked watching her team-mates perform in battles along with her trainer. She surveyed the Cottonee, wondering if it had a chance against the Pokémon whom she knew Argent would choose for the battle. The creature was a white, circular Pokémon, with white, puffy sections on the top of its head and its underside. On its back was a green, star-shaped section, similar to the area where a plant connects to its produce. It had orange, oval-shaped eyes, and furled, notched leaves on the sides of its body. Chimey thought that the thing looked a little puny, but she knew that there was great danger in the moves it learned, combined with its ability -- Prankster. Prankster allowed the Cotton Puff Pokémon to cause absolute havoc on the battlefield, but she was sure that the opposing Pokémon would have an easy time beating the Pokémon.

"Come on out, Arcane!" Argent exclaimed, grabbing a capture device from his satchel. He threw it high into the air, where it burst open, white light spilling out and cascading to the floor. Stretching slightly, the light faded, a flying creature materialising out of nothing. He flapped his wings consistently, although it did not tire his rather light body. The Pokémon himself was quite decorative, with multi-coloured appendages and all sorts. Arcane was a Sigilyph that Argent had got in a trade a while back for a Gengar he'd captured through the Park. Argent rather liked Arcane, and had trained him quite well for battle -- he knew many extra moves, and obeyed Argent most of the time. He could be a little edgy due to his rather hasty nature, but Argent usually was able to work past that. Arcane hovered in the air, waiting for whatever Argent had to command of him. "All right, Arcane. To get a bit of damage in, try using an Air Slash. Just do it casually, we don't want to knock the creature out before the thing's actually started. After that, try using Thunder Wave to slow the Cottonee down -- if he's got the Prankster ability, then he won't be able to move as fast. Good luck!"

"I think I'll battle this one, actually, Makina,"Argent replied, now giving the Cottonee a scrutinizing look, likely trying to decide what Pokemon to use. Beside him, Chimey sported an identical look, making the scene almost comical.

The effect was not lost on Pierrot. Wanting to join in on the fun, he hovered beside the two and formed a mock-serious face, crossing his arms as he did so. Oddly enough, the humor effect was lost on the now slightly confused Cottonee.

Makina got to her feet once more and stepped back, giving Argent more room to command an attack or send out another Pokemon. The last time she had lead Argent through the Park he had used Chimey, though after quickly her PDA she noticed that he had brought along four other Pokemon, almost all of them more than a match for the Cottonee. It mostly just boiled down to preference in this case.

Finally, Argent made his decision. "Come on out, Arcane!" he called out, tossing a Pokeball forward. The sphere released a white burst of light, fading away to reveal the form of a Sigilyph. It lazily flapped its wings in the air, looking down upon the Cottonee in what was almost a bored manner.

Good luck!"

Before Arcane could begin his attack, Cottonee moved with an almost inhuman speed- it appeared as if it did indeed possess the Prankster Ability- and began to shout a string of insults at the Sigilyph. While the small Grass-type had lost none of his earlier fearfulness, it appeared that he at least understood what “Thunder Wave” was, and wanted to null that chance as quickly as possible.

Arcane fell for the bait, his body inflating slightly in anger as he launched a sharp slice of wind at his opponent and causing the lightweight creature to be blown back and strike a nearby tree trunk. While Cottonee got to his feet moderately quickly, he seemed to be shivering more than before; Arcane's attack had caused the Pokemon to flinch. Now would be a perfect time for them to act.

Arcane, still flapping in front of Argent, acknowledged what his trainer had said. However, before he could even move, the Cottonee seemed to recognise the term 'Thunder Wave', and he obviously wanted to avoid this move, as he quickly moved, he flung several unwholesome oaths at Arcane... who, admittedly, would not take that kind of treatment well. Argent was extremely surprised at the seemingly impossible speed at which the small creature had moved, but his spell had succeeded. His swiftness signified that he did indeed possess the Prankster ability, especially considering that Taunt, the move that the creature had used, was a non-damaging move. Prankster on any Pokémon would be an incredibly good move to have, but Argent knew the ability's relative scarcity in the Pokémon world, only appearing in a few species of Pokémon throughout the entire world. Some Pokémon would become extremely deadly with that kind of power to move first when using non-damaging moves. However, that was just as well -- Argent wouldn't want to go into a lot of battles if he knew that most of the opposing Pokémon had such a potent ability. As well as that, Pokémon would probably lose their own uniqueness, and battles would become boring as every non-damaging move was given priority over those that damaged their targets.

In any case, Taunt had worked its wonders upon Argent's poor Sigilyph, and the thing was outraged. He manoeuvred his wings in front of him, creating a massive barrage of wind to erupt from behind him, becoming concentrated into one single slash. It slammed into the Cottonee without much of a doubt, launching the Pokémon backwards through the air. He sailed into a nearby tree, and slid to the ground. Cottonee got up after laying on the ground for a few moments, but he was shivering a little more than he had before -- his fear had been compounded with the flinching effect that Air Slash seemed to create when blasted at a Pokémon. With Arcane's taunted condition, Argent wasn't surprised to see the Cottonee so badly affected by the truly rage-strengthened attack. The two Pokémon were simply staring at each other; Argent had to command his final attacks pretty quickly, so that this battle could end before Arcane went on a rampage or something. He didn't want to get warned for causing an incident or anything -- that was why he had used Sigilyph instead of Clefable or Snorlax. With Fire-type moves, the Gardens would have been burned to ashes or something. WHICH HE DIDN'T WANT.

"Arcane." Argent's tone was firm -- he was trying to grab Arcane's attention. By being a little more snappy than he was usually, he could get Arcane to listen to him. "Look, use an Ice Beam -- everything will be clearer after that. Once you're finished..."

He trailed off, forcing his thoughts outwards, seeking a bond with the Sigilyph, as the creature was not listening. Chimey, sensing what he was trying to do, guided him to the links into Arcane's mind.

Listen to me! Argent exclaimed, putting this thought at the forefront of Arcane's mind. Use an Ice Beam to deal more damage, and once you've done that, try a Hypnosis to guide Cottonee into falling asleep. Your Taunt will have worn off after Ice Beam. Argent simply nodded to seal the deal. He brought a Super Ball out from his satchel. He was going to throw it once Arcane had performed his moves. GOOD LUCK MR. ARGENT.

While Argent seemed none to happy to see that Arcane had been taunted, he didn't let it hold him back for too long. "Arcane," he said in a firm tone, trying to get his partner's attention. "Look, use an Ice Beam -- everything will be clearer after that. Once you're finished..." Argent went dead silent, opting to only stare at the Sigilyph.

Makina slightly frowned, trying to figure out what was wrong. He didn't appear to be thinking about what to do next, after all. After taking a look at how Arcane had become still, trying to listen to something only he could hear, she had a good guess what was happening at the moment: Argent had switched to speaking telepathically, a move that some Trainers could pull off with their Pokemon after the two had become close. While this mostly happened with Psychic Pokemon, in rare cases it could happen with other Pokemon as well; she had known a Trainer who could communicate with their Lucario in this fashion, for instance.

Arcane's third eye began to glow, and shot off a frigid blast of energy straight at the Cottonee, causing it to shriek as the ice caused the damp parts of its body to freeze as well. While not truly frozen, it would not be moving anywhere quickly for a while. In retaliation, the Cottonee fired off his own attack, a glowing forest-green sphere that struck Arcane in his midsection. The Sigilyph, while he felt the blow hit him, didn't seem too phased. What's more, he appeared to be calmer; Taunt had finally run its course.

Arcane began to shift into another attack, this one releasing waves of soothing psychic energy to relax their target. This was Hypnosis, a move that could put the defending Pokemon into a deep slumber. While Cottonee began to power itself up with another move, growing slightly as it absorbed the sun's rays, it still eventually fell victim to Hypnosis.

Argent, waiting for this exact moment, had fished out a Super Ball. He tossed the sphere forward, the device sucking in the slumbering Pokemon. It shook a couple times on the ground, and it appeared to be a clean capture for certain... but at the last moment, the Pokemon broke free from the Ball, oddly still asleep. The Super Ball rolled off to the side, eventually coming to rest by the roots of a tree a few yards away.

Makina stayed silent, both from slight shock at seeing a Pokemon somehow break free while so weakened and still asleep to boot and to see what Argent would do next. He could either attempt another capture, or try to whittle down Cottonee's health even more: it was his call.

The 'third eye' of sorts on Arcane's head -- it sort of resembled an Unown, actually -- began to glow a frosty white colour, obviously preparing the Ice Beam. He had definitely heard what Argent had forced into his mind, all right. However, even as Arcane was charging the Ice-type attack, the Cottonee was preparing his own attack, meaning that they'd have to time this right. Argent knew, though, that preparing any attack was not something that could be rushed, and he watched warily as the green, blob-like energy expanded in front of the Cottonee. In his own time, however, Arcane blasted the ice in a concentrated cylinder of energy towards the Cottonee, who saw this coming. In response, he shot off the Energy Ball that he had been charging, but that wasn't really a wise move against a partly Flying-typed Pokémon. The thing didn't damage Arcane much, in honesty, but it had calmed him down -- the effects of Taunt had ceased to exist within Arcane's body, so he was able to be a lot freer with what he did now. This was what Argent was counting on -- and now Arcane could use Hypnosis.

The brightly-coloured Pokémon hovered quietly as it changed into another move, and Cottonee began to swell in the sun slightly to boost himself. However, Arcane, emitting psychic waves of subtly suggestive sleep energy, distracted Cottonee from this, and he was dragged down into the realms of his mind as he fell asleep. Argent had, at this moment, decided that a capture would be good for certain, and so he had flung the Super Ball towards Cottonee. The Pokémon was swallowed up in the capture device, and it wriggled for a few moments. Argent waited, although he believed that it was definitely going to be an easy catch... but the Super Ball burst open, and the Cottonee came out once more, sleeping all the while. Argent was fuming for a moment, but he calmly commanded his Chimecho to retrieve the Ball. A faint blue outline surrounded the ball, and it was lifted up into the air. Argent outstretched his hand, and Chimey guided the sphere into his palm. Argent once more had the Super Ball.

"All right, Arcane, that didn't work. Let's wrap things up with Gust! It's not one of your most powerful attacks, but it'll whittle down Cottonee's health a bit more, making our capture easier. Good luck." Argent grasped the Super Ball tightly, once again intending to throw it on the moment that Arcane's Gust attack had dissipated.

Argent's reaction appeared to have almost the same stunned reaction as Makina, then was oddly silent, much like the calm before a storm. Finally, after a pause that felt like an eternity, he pointed over to the nearby Super Ball and directed Chimey to retrieve the object. After concentrating on the Ball for a moment and using her innate telekinetic powers, the capture device rose into the air and made its way back into Argent.

Once the device was back in his hand, Argent directed his attention back to his second Pokemon. "All right, Arcane, that didn't work. Let's wrap things up with Gust! It's not one of your most powerful attacks, but it'll whittle down Cottonee's health a bit more, making our capture easier. Good luck."

The command, if a bit long-winded in Makina's opinion due to the fact that Cottonee was still sleeping away and would most likely wake up soon, was a wise move. While Gust would do a nice amount of damage against the Grass-type, it was highly unlikely that it would faint the wild Pokemon either.

Arcane began his attack immediately, using his colorful wings to whip up a minuscule tornado to launch at the Cottonee. While the Pokemon still managed to stay asleep despite being attacked, it began to stir slightly- a sign that it was beginning to awaken.

Whether Argent had seen this movement as well or was simply determined to attempt another capture immediately after Arcane's attack was unknown, but either way he throw the Super Ball forward once more. Like before, the Cottonee's form was sucked into the device, but the Ball had yet to even hit the ground before letting off the pinging sound of a successful capture.

“Well, despite the fact that it put up quite the fight, you got Cottonee in the end,” Makina remarked walking over to the Super Ball and placing it in her pack. “Just give the word when you're ready to head out.”

Argent had thrown the Ball this time, and it was clear that the Cottonee was to be captured -- the Super Ball wriggled for a few moments, but it did not give up a fight like it had the previous time. The sphere came to a standstill pretty quickly, and Argent breathed a sigh of relief. Makina, as her job dictated, retrieved the capture device from the floor, to keep until the run was over. He looked over at the young woman, wondering what she was about to say next. Of course, it would probably be some sort of congratulatory thing, as rangers practically obliged themselves to do that -- sometimes it was genuine, sometimes it was forced. It wasn't like it mattered much, anyway, because the trainer was often too pleased with themselves to notice. Argent was, in fact, quite happy that the Cottonee was now his without too much trouble, and Arcane wasn't even sufficiently scathed to warrant immediate healing, unlike other battles that had happened in the park in the past.

"Well, despite the fact that it put up quite the fight, you got Cottonee in the end." Really? Wow. He'd never noticed that fact before -- even if he was a bit long-winded sometimes, Makina could really be Captain Obvious." Just give the word when you're ready to head out." Argent nodded, and then he sank down to a nearby rock. He raised Arcane's Poké Ball above his head, and recalled the strange being back into the sphere. Sighing, he pulled out a bottle of water from his satchel, and drank deeply from it -- the humid air was sort of draining, and being a trainer was hard enough work as it was. However, soon enough, he was revitalised, and he stood up once again. Attaching Arcane's Poké Ball back to his satchel, he looked to Chimey, who was just as ready to move on.

"Thanks, Makina. Can we move on now, please?" Argent asked politely, gesturing forwards, as if to suggest that she should lead the way -- which she would be doing anyway, of course.

I hope I get to battle the next Pokémon, Chimey remarked, a little surly.

Shh, you, came Argent's reply. He flipped open his satchel once more, taking out his PokéPlayer. He removed the Girafarig Voice Disk from the machine, placing it back in its box and depositing it in his satchel. Then, he removed his Swablu Voice Disk, inserting it into the playback device. He smiled slightly, pressing the 'play' button as he waited. A chirping noise rang out. Hopefully, a real Swablu would answer the call.

"Thanks, Makina. Can we move on now, please?" Argent replied, gesturing for her to lead the way. Granted, this was a given for a Run; Rangers were supposed to lead so they could be forewarned of any danger heading their way and act quickly before any harm could come to their Trainer, something that Argent most likely already knew.

Makina was beginning to get the feeling that there was more going on than just politeness at the moment, but kept her lips sealed for now. After all, she was just doing her job, and her suspicions had a miniscule chance of being wrong.

Pierrot, seeing Makina's irritation about manner for a brief second, decided to act. In an attempt to lighten the mood, he snuck behind Argent's back, imitating every move that the human was performing at the moment, albeit in a slightly more exaggerated tone.

The effect wasn't lost on Makina and, while it was somewhat amusing, she wished she had Aria here at the moment to relay to the Banette that now wasn't the time to joke around. At least Argent appeared too busy with his Pokeplayer to notice, switching his used disk with a newer one. Soon the Player began to play once more, this time broadcasting what sounded like bird chirps.

The sound, surprisingly enough, was answered almost immediately. They looked about, trying to see where it was coming from- and Argent's rested upon a bird Pokemon resting on a tree branch nearby, the creatures head in the shape of a music note. It was mimicking the Player's cry perfectly, though this was obviously not the Pokemon Argent was trying to capture with it.

“Looks like you're not the only prankster, Pierrot,” Makina muttered to her Banette, then directed her attention to Argent. “Interested in a Chatot?”

As Argent's PokéPlayer rang out through the area, the sound was taken up almost immediately by a creature nearby. Argent's heart leapt for a moment -- a Swablu was already nearby, and was coming to them. However, that was only what he thought. Probably something else would happen, and he simply was going to wait until it did. He looked around with Makina, trying to determine the source of the noise. He glanced from tree to tree -- after all, if the thing was a bird, it was hardly going to be lying on the floor. The canopy was thick in this area, and he put a hand over his eyes to shield himself from the sunlight that was filtering through the gaps so that he could see a little more clearly. Argent sighed, but it seemed that they would eventually find the source, as Makina noticed something and she seemed to be looking directly at it. Argent followed her line of sight, and was looking directly towards the creature that she had noticed in no time -- it was making the exact same noises as the Swablu disk that Argent had just been playing a few moments ago.

Makina murmured something to her Banette, and then looked over towards Argent. "Interested in a Chatot?" she asked. Argent had to consider it for a moment, because he really wasn't sure -- Chatot were pretty common along the shores of Sinnoh, according to Clara, and he supposed he wasn't really interested in one. They did have their uses, and they did have quite high special attack and speed, but Argent wasn't entirely sure that one would be a good addition to the Pokémon he'd already captured throughout his life. They weren't even that interesting, in his opinion. He'd move on, definitely -- after capturing Cottonee, his spirits had been lifted a little bit. There was bound to be something else along the way that was a little more interesting than this Chatot.

"Um, not really, Makina. Is it okay if we move on, please?" Argent smiled -- a genuine smile -- at Makina, before pressing the play button on his disk once more. Hopefully a real Swablu would be attracted this time.
