    @Buoysel.

    NBP#1

I was bored. To the Nth degree.

Terribly, extremely, excessively, drastically, exceedingly, severely, intensely, immensely, strikingly, utterly, overly, awfully bored (perhaps an exaggeration there, but hey, it turns out I was bored enough to think of that many words to describe my boredom).

After that influx of trainers flooding in to the National Park, and after I had claimed multiple runs at that time, the forms suddenly stopped coming in. Well, not completely. Sure, there was one or two every now and then - but, I never seemed to manage to claim them.

I decided to go on an expedition myself, perhaps that would give me a whole new load of excitement. However, before I could even write my name, my RDA (Ranger's Digital Assistant - practically a PDA for Rangers, or for me, at least) beeped. Immediately, I turned my attention to the small window that had popped up, notifying me that someone had just sent in a form to the front gate.

His name was Argent Silverswift, a fellow ranger. I didn't even to bother to look at the details of the run, instead, I grabbed it without a second thought. Perhaps that had been my first mistake.

He had planned on going to Mount Oktori, a snowy mountain inhabited by mainly Ice- and Fighting-types. It wasn't too bad a zone of the Park, though I didn't like it much. Quite a number of trainers would choose this location, as well as Mount Deckbi, just because of the new species of Pokemon that had been discovered here just some time ago. Oh well, I figured it was better than having to go to Deckbi again. I did, after all, prefer cool weather over the heat of the volcano.

Argent was one of the more serious of rangers - not the type who would joke around and bicker about with others. Clumsy he was, but also a very keen observer. I've heard he was a very creative thinker when it comes to battles and strategies. So, all in all, this journey might actually be an interesting one. Not that adventures in the Park were extremely boring, but sometimes, a touch of humor, creativity, and action could really spice up the run.

I figured the twenty-year old would have packed enough things, considering he was a ranger himself. But, I still packed the usual emergency items into my brown shoulder bag - just to be on the safe side; better safe than sorry. Taking into account the place I would be visiting and journeying through, I silently chose four loyal and trustworthy Pokemon of mine. Namely, Superman the Machamp, Archer the Gallade, Hamilton the Heracross, and Icabella the Glaceon. The first three for their strength and endurance, the fourth mainly because she was an Ice-typed entity. And if, in any case, we needed to dash to safety without the luxury of time, my Blade Pokemon or Argent's Chimecho could easily teleport us to another location.

I didn't feel like trudging my way to Mt. Oktori; the weather was getting cooler, and soon, the whole of the National Park would be under a soft bed of white - much like that of the area I was going to. Flying there was a risky task, even though I believed my capable-of-flight partners were strong and resilient. Teleportation was the only way to go, it seemed.

"Archer, come on out!" I tossed a red-and-white sphere to the cemented floor of my Ranger office. The Pokeball clicked open, and with a flash of white, my Psychic-Fighting-typed friend appeared before me. I only had to say one word, "Oktori", and I was soon engulfed in a bubble of energy.

Next thing I knew, I was standing next to a large mountain covered by a blanket of snow. I gazed upwards for a few moments, snowflakes slowly falling onto my face. I brushed them off and turned my attention to the gate, where Argent should soon be walking through.

I let out a yawn, stretching my arms upwards as I did so. A snowflake or two decided to rest on my lower lip, sending a cold tickling feeling to surge through my nerves, causing me to clamp my mouth shut. Man, I was still bored. But, perhaps, to a lower degree than before.

Still, it wouldn't hurt to say that I was, "Terribly, extremely, excessively, drastically, exceedingly, severely, intensely, immensely, strikingly, utterly, overly, awfully bored"!

"And you definitely are sure that you know how to work the system, right?" Argent asked, looking sternly towards the short woman who was supposed to be taking his place for the day. She had her dark hair tied back in a tight ponytail, causing veins to throb in an ugly way on her forehead and raised her eyebrows and top eyelids upwards, giving her a permanently surprised look. On top of that, her horn-rimmed glasses were large and round, almost sweeping over half of her face. Given that her "surprised" eyes were enlarged by the massive glasses, she didn't look a pretty sight at all. She had tatty make-up plastered all over her face, and Argent, although he knew not to judge a book by his cover... well, he wasn't entirely sure that she'd do a good job while he was out on his run - every once in a while, Argent checked himself out of the office while he wasn't taking a trainer on a run, and went on a run himself.

It had just so happened that he had finished most of his paperwork recently, and since he hadn't gone on a run for a little while since his last trip to the Botanic Gardens, he thought he'd arrange a day in which he could go for a little run somewhere he hadn't been before for his own purposes - he quite liked the idea of Mt. Oktori, and so he had applied for a run there. Within a while, he had been claimed by another Ranger who he didn't really know quite well, so he'd make a point to be extra polite to her. In any case, he knew that Oktori wasn't a bad idea - he owned practically no Pokémon that were located there, and so he thought it would be nice if he could get the opportunity to try and find some Pokémon that lived there - since there were both Fighting-types and Ice-types he hadn't gotten, he decided he'd do the thing in two alternating trips - one, where he'd use a Fighting-type repellent to obtain more Ice-types, and then one where he'd use an Ice-type repellent for the opposite purpose.

"Okay, sure," Argent said. "Call me if there's any trouble."

With that, he left the outpost, his Chimecho floating along behind him. Releasing his Clefable quickly, he looked down kindly towards the pink Pokémon whom he had come to love over the past while of her companionship with him. "Okay, Cassidy. Is it okay if you Teleport us to the Mt. Oktori outpost? We'd need to arrive there soon. We don't want her to become bored, do we?" On Argent's command, Cassidy had grabbed onto his trousers, and Chimey grabbed onto the back of his shirt (he had a thick coat held in his arms) and they disappeared in a flash of light, carried away through a dimension that no-one knew. Argent didn't particularly like the feeling of teleportation: he thought it felt like he was being forced through a tube about big enough to fit a Weedle inside at high speed. Within a few short seconds, however, he was out of the feeling, and stumbled slightly, crashing straight into his Ranger clumsily.

Regaining his balance, he looked about him momentarily - he noticed that the snow where they had arrived had been heavily displaced, and was now covering almost everything... the outpost, the gate, even their Ranger. Argent smiled apologetically, stepping gently backwards from the woman.

"Oh, hello... sorry about that. You must be Elisa. I am, as you probably know, Argent Silverswift. I'm ready to head off on the run when you are," Argent said, swinging his coat over himself and zipping it up - it was quite toasty in there.

It didn't take long for Argent to arrive, but in that short amount of time, I had put on my coat and had dug my hands deep into the pockets. He entrance was surprising, really. Though I figured he would appear like a thief in the night, no forewarning whatsoever, due to teleportation, I hadn't taken into account the possibility that he could materialize right in front of me.

    Which was exactly the case.

Not only that but, in a rather clumsy manner, he stumbled forward, catching me by surprise. I barely had any time to react, my eyes only widening in surprise before he collided with me. We both fell crashing down - or, at least, I happened to land on the white, snow-covered ground.

The impact caused the white flakes to fly everywhere in heaps, and soon, I, too, was covered by this cold white blanket. I brought myself up quickly, brushing off the snow in the process.

"Oh, hello... sorry about that. You must be Elisa. I am, as you probably know, Argent Silverswift. I'm ready to head off on the run when you are." The trainer smiled apologetically, swinging his coat over himself as cool winds breezed past us.

"Oh, don't worry about that - the snow was soft enough to cushion my landing, anyway," I replied. "Well, Oktori's not called a mountain for nothing, so let's head into its extensive network of caves."

I led Mr. Silverswift into the mount through the nearest opening in the side of the mountain. It was rather small, at least compared to other caverns I had been in. With the scent of the Fighting-type repellent, there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that we'd encounter mostly, if not all, Ice-typed Pokemon. I presumed I'd be watching some cool battles later on.

The first creature we encountered in our journey came gliding across the rocky ground at a slow pace. It was covered in dense, brown-colored, striped hair - this seemed to be its fur, so shaggy that it covered almost all of its tuft-like small legs. The Pig Pokemon's pink, pig-like nose sniffed at the floor and snow, looking for anything edible. Its eyes seem perpetually closed in appearance.

"Interested in a Swinub, Argent?" I asked the man, gesturing at the entity who seemed much too engrossed in scouring for food that it had yet to notice us.

ooc; @MuddyMudkip, sorry about the whole absence, my dad banned me from the computer and shiz. ^^; Also, Swinub is male.

"Oh, don't worry about that - the snow was soft enough to cushion my landing, anyway," she replied, brushing herself down as she got up. "Well, Oktori's not called a mountain for nothing, so let's head into its extensive network of caves."

"Sounds like a good idea," Argent said, smiling as he agreed. In previous trips to Oktori, taking others on their runs, he had led them up the trail of Oktori towards the top, but it seemed today that he'd be using the cave networks in Oktori and beneath. He had had an unfortunate experience before in Mt. Oktori when he was kidnapped by the Legendary Pokémon Regigigas, and his Chimecho led the search whilst rangering Argent's trainer, inevitably leading them to Argent and the Regigigas, where a small argument had taken place. They had subsequently escaped from the large Pokémon, and Argent's trainer decided to end the run at that point for reasons he had never really explained - maybe because the Legendary had given him a fright, but then again, maybe not. Argent didn't feel like dwelling on the experience, however, as he was sure that at the time, the situation was more unpleasant for him than for anyone else. He hadn't entirely been feeling safe during the whole thing.

Argent followed obediently after the girl, sticking his hands firmly in his pockets to keep them from becoming too chilly - the cold was definitely starting to affect him already, and he hoped that he'd be cooler within the caves. As they approached the nearest entrance into the cave, Argent tingled with the mixture of cold and excitement - the feeling of setting out on a new run was always infectiously exciting, and the sensation had never got old for him, and he'd been a regular attendee to the Park for about six years now. His first run had taken place when he was fourteen, and he was twenty years old now. The run that had happened in his youth seemed an awfully long time ago, but he still hadn't forgotten how special it had felt. Following Elisa inside the caves, he looked around and thought about how cramped and small it seemed, especially compared to other caves he had been in - not like he had been in many, but from his experience they tended to be larger. Hopefully, the passage would widen out and get larger as they moved on.

Still walking, he picked up a thick twig, and cleverly neatened it up a little bit, then wrapped a bundle of cloth around the top of it to form a makeshift torch - he knew it was dark and cold in caves, and the torch would provide light and warmth, although it was a bit of a medieval torch. He often kept a lot of cloth with him for various purposes, and it seemed it had came in useful in this case. Lowering it towards Cassidy's mouth, he said quietly, "Cassidy, Flamethrower. Gently, though - we don't want some kind of inferno going on." Complying with Argent's command, Cassidy opened her mouth in a small 'o' shape, and blew flames onto the cloth, which quickly caught alight, providing a lot more light than there was when Argent had first entered the cave. Holding the torch aloft, he was confident that it helped Elisa to see where she was going a bit more, as well as guiding Argent and his Pokémon. Argent sighed a little as he moved on, jogging slightly to catch up - the torch thing had set him behind Elisa a few paces.

As they walked on, the first encounter that popped up was a rather small creature, and it didn't exactly appear dramatically... Argent, it was safe to say, expected a tiny bit more, but the creature hadn't even seemed to have noticed any of the newcomers yet. Its eyes seemingly perpetually closed, it simply slid over the dark, rocky ground very slowly, and Argent almost bored himself looking at it. Its bright pink snout scoured the floor by sniffing, searching for anything to eat - Argent knew that these Pokémon were extremely hungry a lot of the time, and their evolutions, Piloswine and Mamoswine, were, in fact, extremely powerful Pokémon. Argent knew that the small thing would be a good addition to his team, although probably a pain to try and train up to become powerful enough to be viable in battle - however, he was confident in his own abilities as a trainer, and the challenge would be accepted without any hesitance. Argent felt quite lucky that he had encountered quite a rare-ish Pokémon so early on in his run, and hoped that the luck would continue.

"Interested in a Swinub, Argent?" Elisa asked, not really out of necessity but more because it was a traditional thing to ask. She gestured towards the small swine-resembling Pokémon, but Argent was well-aware of what she was referring to. He didn't really mind, though - she was only trying to be helpful, and Argent smiled encouragingly at her.

"A nice find so early on!" Argent exclaimed genuinely, looking back down to the small creature. "I think I'll battle it, yes."

Bringing out a small machine from his satchel with the hand that wasn't holding the torch, he flipped the screen open with some difficulty and moved the camera towards the Swinub so that his Pokédex could recognise it. As it processed the image, the Pokédex began to speak. "It rubs its snout on the ground to find and dig up food. It sometimes discovers hot springs. If it smells something enticing, it dashes headlong off to find the source of the aroma. It uses the tip of its nose to dig for food. Its nose is so tough that even frozen ground poses no problem."

"Sounds good to me," Argent said, beginning to ponder who to use against the Swinub. Drago could probably pull off a good performance in his opinion - it was immune to Ground-type attacks, resistant to its Ice-type attacks and had many Fire-type attacks at its disposal; plus, Swinub didn't have any Water-type moves, but it was the Rock-type moves that they'd have to watch out for. Drago was very weak to Rock-type moves, although Argent didn't like that about him - however, it was just due to Drago's typing, and that was something that he couldn't help, so there was no point getting frustrated about it. Cassidy wasn't weak to any of the Swinub's moves, and did have very useful moves in Flamethrower and BubbleBeam, but Drago had more raw power and could pull off the battle probably a little better than Cassidy could, although he wouldn't say it.

Commanding Chimecho to take the torch with her telekinetic powers, he replaced his Pokédex in his satchel and brought out a bright red sphere. The torch now floating in front of his Psychic-type Pokémon, he flung the Poké Ball down on the ground, and it burst into white light, releasing a large, scaly, orange monster.

"Okay, Drago, you're up! The Swinub isn't much of a match for you, so try to tone down your power a tiny bit so that you don't knock him out too early. To start off, try a SmokeScreen to distract the Swinub - even though he doesn't see very well anyway, his sense of smell will be inhibited by the smoke and you can carry out a surprise attack. Afterwards, use a Flamethrower attack, and we'll see where we are at that point. Good luck!"

"A nice find so early on! I think I'll battle it, yes," Argent exclaimed, beaming enthusiastically. I smiled - Swinub weren't very common creatures wandering around out here. And, Mamoswine would be a nice addition to any team due to its bulk - and I should know, for I had one of my own.

He opened his bag, quickly rummaging through it to retrieve his Pokedex. He flipped the gadget open with one hand with a bit of difficulty as he gripped the make-shift torch tightly with the other. The device scanned the wild entity, then piped up in its mechanical voice, "It rubs its snout on the ground to find and dig up food. It sometimes discovers hot springs. If it smells something enticing, it dashes headlong off to find the source of the aroma. It uses the tip of its nose to dig for food. Its nose is so tough that even frozen ground poses no problem." I quite disliked the voice of these types - it was a bit too high-pitched and a bit too mechanical for my tastes. Still, it was a useful machine, giving us a lot of information about the Pokemon around us, so who was I to complain? Learning just a little bit of knowledge about the organism you planned on battling could be of very great help during the fight.

The trainer-slash-ranger nodded, noting this down mentally. He then took a moment to think to himself, commanding his Chimecho to "hold" the torch for him by using her telekinetic powers. After a few moments, he reached into his bag again - this time, bringing out a red-and-white-colored orb. Chimey was going to stay on the sidelines, for this battle, at least. His trainer form for this Park run flashed through my mind. The Psychic-type was out, which left Drago and Cassidy. Both had a good chance at being chosen - the Clefable was not weak to any of the attacks the Pig Pokemon could possibly know at this point in time; while the Charizard, on the other hand, was resistant to Ice-typed moves, immune to Ground ones, and knew a couple of Fire assaults - the only thing they'd have to watch out for would be the Rock-typed moves.

"Okay, Drago, you're up! The Swinub isn't much of a match for you, so try to tone down your power a tiny bit so that you don't knock him out too early," Argent called once his partner had appeared mightily in between the wild encounter and us. The Flame Pokemon had little space to move in the cramp cave - this could prove to be quite problematic during the course of the bout, but we'll see how it goes. He flapped his wings to keep him stationary up in the air as he listened to the man's command. "To start off, try a SmokeScreen to distract the Swinub - even though he doesn't see very well anyway, his sense of smell will be inhibited by the smoke and you can carry out a surprise attack. Afterwards, use a Flamethrower attack, and we'll see where we are at that point. Good luck!"

The Fire-Flying-type nodded, feeling toxic dust start to bubble up his throat. With the open of his muzzle, and a slight blow, a large stream of smoke shot out. The puffs were as black as ebony and as thick as... As... As... Well, let's just say it was as thick as an encyclopedia. It was as though an extremely dirty, dusty, dense, and black blanket of fog had covered the entire cave.

I squinted - I couldn't see anything through the Smokescreen. Surely, the Ice-Ground-type couldn't see anything either (not that he could to begin with, anyway) and couldn't sniff out things, too. We would just have to hope that my fellow ranger's Pokemon could still pin point where the enemy was... If his vision as of the moment was no better than ours, the situation would pose a rather large challenge to the team. Who knew what could happen when he let loose the Flamethrower assault. It's not like he could fire it at all possible areas just to damage the opponent, now could he? If the flames were to engulf the whole area... What then?

I shook my head, clearing my mind from the negative thoughts floating about, and pushing the possible scenarios to the back of my brain. I silently prayed that all would go well, hoping against all ope that Drago could make out the confused and dazzled Swinub within the smog.

I watched Dragon inhale deeply, and then released a wave of swirling blazes. The inferno was in a form of a twisting fire tornado, whirling 'round and 'round. I lost sight of him for a moment - he must have gone into the thick of it, trying hard to aim at the enemy. A flick of his slight long, burning-at-the-tip tail caught my eye soon afterwards. I now realized that he he changed positions - moving to the left - but, from the looks of it, he hadn't switched target areas. Perhaps he had actually managed to find the wild Pokemon, now scorching it with the flares? Or was he just confident about himself for whatever reasons?

The soot slowly began to fade after a while, and the Charizard had backed out of it. He was done with his attack. Suddenly, though, I felt a chill run up my spine. It was, out of the blue, getting colder. As if the weather wasn't snowy, freezing enough already! Icy breezes blew past us, snowflakes fell at a rapid pace, icicles were starting to form around the cavern, and snow now covered a lot of the rocky ground we were standing on. We were in a hailstorm - just a snowstorm, if we were fortunate.

"Hail..." I muttered. It was a move that changed the weather to snowy-stormy-whatnot for a period of time... Not like it changed the climate in this case, though, since it was already bitter cold outside. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying hard to stop myself from shivering under these circumstances.

The storm had conquered the smoke that had been filling this area with pollution. We could now see the wild creature - he was rather battered and bruised, a swollen scar over a portion of his head. His body was ever so slightly charred, and it looked like he had been burnt by the fiery embers - but we couldn't know for sure. He moved around in a dazed manner - his sense of smell was still inhibited by the traces of the earlier gas left in the air.

Next thing I knew, spears of pure ice were flying everywhere in all directions, but coming from just one source. I ducked in the nick of time to evade one of the shards. Argent would have to think and act fast if he wanted to save the Fire-Flying-type from the icicles. Already, one had slammed into the side of Drago's body, creating a tear on his torso. This caused him a bit of health, and the climate, too. He did not like this kind of battle weather, but he would not complain. He'd stay silent, even though the snowstorm hurt him as well.

ooc; @MuddyMudkip I'm so bad at posting regularly.

After Argent had finished calling out his commands to the Fire- and Flying-type, the Charizard nodded once, resolutely taking off, although the space was quite cramped. The creature began to generate a kind of smog in its throat, creating a burning, tingling feeling which spiralled upwards, Drago beginning to feel a little uncomfortable with the smoke building up. When it thought that it couldn't hold it in anymore, the Charizard opened its mouth wide and blew outwards, the smoke whooshing towards the small, opposing creature that was fighting against the both of them. A successful SmokeScreen move had been carried out, and the Charizard decided to move onto its next attack, moving swiftly through the smoke that impeded almost everyone's vision - however, Drago seemed to be able to move without incident through the thick, dusty, dense smoke, and Argent was hoping that all was going well - he couldn't exactly see Drago clearly through the SmokeScreen.

Argent narrowed his eyes to try and get a better look, although it wasn't helping anything much. He was hoping that the senses of the Swinub were now rather impeded - it never really looked at much in the first place, and its sense of smell would perhaps be blocked up by the unwholesome smell of the smoke that had been generated. However, there were a multitude of things that could go wrong - Drago could maybe misplace the Swinub and hit something else, or perhaps the Swinub would regain its senses (maybe having never lost them in the first place) and launch its own powerful attack on the dragon-like creature that Argent had trained for the past while. Argent supposed he just had to hope for the best, and make sure that if a fire broke out or if something went wrong, he'd just have to try and fix it. Chimey was also trying to search frantically through the smoke, but she found that obviously, her eyes weren't enough. She wasn't going to try echolocation or location through her psychic powers, however - not yet, as she thought that she might distract her teammate.

However, out of the blue (or black, rather) came a swirling vortex of flames, that seemed to illuminate the entire cave. However, Argent still couldn't see what was going on through the smoke, only the flames. The flames swirled around a lot as far as Argent could see, but other than that he had no idea what Drago was doing. It seemed that he wasn't changing his position, however, which could have indicated that the flames had actually found the target on his first try, leading Argent to believe that perhaps Drago could see quite well in the smoke. It wouldn't really have made sense any other way, as generally Drago was a being of fire, and as one Argent imagined he'd have certain advantages like that. Argent was also grateful of the extra heat that the large dragon brought, but it was still rather chilly. The flame hovering beside him also provided him with heat, but then again, Mt. Oktori basically had arctic conditions - he knew this from previous experiences at Mt. Oktori, as well as his training to become a Ranger at the National Park.

The flames slowly diminished, and Argent assumed that Drago was finished with his attack. However, that didn't mean that the Swinub wouldn't do anything about it, and it seemed that this came to be rather true. As fast as the heat from the Flamethrower had came, the chill had arrived once more, only this time it came from a different source. It was definitely getting colder, and Argent could see snowflakes forming. Icy breezes brushed his cheeks, prompting him to shiver, and icicles formed rather quickly, and soon enough, the pace of the incoming cold weather began to quicken. Chimey was quick to guard the flames from being put out, as she knew that without them, everything would plunge swiftly into darkness. The fall of the snowflakes was rather dramatic now, and Argent quickly came to recognise the weather as something similar to a hailstorm, swooping around the battlefield harshly, and dropping the temperature down drastically. Argent crossed his arms in an attempt to keep himself warmer, although he didn't think that these attempts would work very well.

The Hail move had overwhelmed the SmokeScreen, so now sight of the battlefield was a lot clearer, and the wild Swinub could be seen - it appeared that he was in a rather bad way, as his fur looked charred and he generally looked battered around. He moved around rather confusedly, sniffing at the air crazily in the hope he could get his bearings a bit more easily, but it seemed that his snout was still stuffed with all the smoke from the SmokeScreen. However, he still prepared a move, and spears of ice began to be fired from every direction, smashing in different parts of the cave. Argent struggled to look up, but he saw that Drago had already came into contact with one of the icicles - as a rather large creature, it made him an easy target in such a small space, and so Argent would have to take drastic measures in order to make sure that Drago wasn't damaged further by the icicles that flew around the place. He knew he couldn't get Chimey to interfere, otherwise that wouldn't be in the spirit of the battles within the National Park and was probably against the rules unless there was a serious situation...

What in the world could he do?

"Look, Drago, I know you don't like conditions at the moment, but neither do I. My main priority here is to make sure that you're safe, and I can't do that unless you do exactly as I tell you. All right?"

Drago nodded simply, trying to weave through the icicles flying at him.

"Okay, you have to use Hidden Power! It's a Steel-type move, which will completely annihilate ice of any kind, including Swinub if it hits him. I want you to use the move as a shield - you should be able to move the Hidden Power around you to block the Ice Shards, and once they've cleared up, you can try to expel the Hidden Power forcefully, which may make contact with the Swinub and damage him. Also, if you have enough energy afterwards, try for a small Flame Burst to finish the Swinub off. I know you can do it, Drago!"

"Look, Drago, I know you don't like conditions at the moment, but neither do I. My main priority here is to make sure that you're safe, and I can't do that unless you do exactly as I tell you. All right?" Argent called out to his Pokemon, happy that he had executed the combo perfectly, but unhappy about the weather. He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to stop shivering from the cold.

His Charizard could only quickly nod in acknowledgment as he tried to evade the icicles that Swinub was shooting out. He didn't have much space to move around in the tight cave, but luckily, only one or two spears had struck him.

The Fire-Flying-type powered up quickly, for the sheer fright of being hit by one of the frozen shards. In a moment, oval-shaped stone-like object began to float around the creature. They glowed a silver-gray hue, resembling the Steel type. Quickly, he moved them around, forming some sort of shield against the Ice-typed assault. Hidden Power wasn't a move that produced a lot of items, unfortunately. The objects could only cover the entity's front part. It worked perfectly, though, blocking all of the cold icicles that were being fired out from seemingly every direction (though we knew they all came from only one source - the Pig Pokemon).

Once all of the Ice Shard attack had been defeated and annihilated, Drago forcefully pushed the oval stones forward. They flew straight towards their target, hitting him directly. He let out a wail as his health was drained immensely. Panting, he gathered his energy once more. He planned to make it even colder, even windier. Whether it was an Icy Wind or a Blizzard, we'd just have to wait and see.

The Flame Pokemon closed his eyes in concentration, feeling heat swell up inside of him. Fire-typed energy rose to his throat as fiery flames. But since they were controlled, and they had come from the Charizard himself, they did not hurt the organism. He took a deep breath, then released a barrage of mildly explosive blazes. The bursting inferno surrounded the Ice-Ground-type, and right before they came into contact with each other, he released a wave of freezing gusts. Snow and ice mixed in with the wind, as well. The quick burst of cold air fought against the blast of burning flares.

They were pretty evenly matched up, and luckily, the wild creature hadn't summoned freezing rains, for if he had.. Well, let's just say that the Flame Burst could most likely be defeated pretty early on. The icy blows sometimes froze the warmth; other times, they melted under the heat. In the end, both assaults caused a large explosion, coughing up a cloud of smoke and dust. A few flames still remained, and a part of the gust breezed their way towards the Fire-Flying-type.

The embers surrounded the Pig Pokemon, closing in on him. Upon contact, the cascade exploded, scorching his body. Sparks of the fire jumped out here and there, tapping the rocky wall and ground of the mountain. They burned the rock slightly, but nothing too severe. The Swinub, on the other hand, cried out in agony, his skin charred even more. The assault had dealt a massive amount of damage to the entity. Meanwhile, the cold Icy Wind blew straight into Drago. It wasn't the most significant of attacks, but still dealt a decent amount of damage.

I shivered, a chill running through me. This was one of the reasons why I didn't like Mount Oktori that much... Not that I wanted to suffer in the heat of Mt. Deckbi, though. Cold winds rushed past us in the snowstorm. I glanced over at Argent's partner. He was trying very hard to keep himself from shivering, for if he did, he knew he'd draw attention to his shy self. The hail was not helping his condition - in fact, it damaged him. Mild- to moderately, but still damage nonetheless.

The wild organism was weak now. Black chars covered his originally brown pelt, and you could just faintly hear him gulping for air as his flank heaved up and down... He was breathless, drained of energy and power. A good time to attempt capture, I'd say...

    @MuddyMudkip ._.

As Argent had finished calling out his commands, Drago quickly sprang into action once more - it was amazing to watch him battle. Even if he was quiet, Drago was certainly a proficient battler, and Argent was quite confident that he could carry this out correctly. Drago, drawing his arms close together, generated a few orbs of silvery energy, which eventually widened out. However, his Hidden Power couldn't really generate that many objects to cover the entirety of his body, so instead Drago took the initiative to cover the front of his body with all of the stone-like objects, and these proved effective in blocking the Ice Shards that the Swinub was firing off wildly. Chimey, who was still guarding the torch, was attempting to use other parts of her psychic power in order to redirect the other Ice Shards away from her and Argent, but they soon stopped, and she sank down a little, the process having taken some energy from her, but she found that it wasn't a lot and that she didn't mind so much.

Now that the Ice Shard attack had been successfully blocked, and thus it had stopped, Drago quickly decided to move onto the next part of Argent's plan, which involved firing off the Hidden Power as an offensive move. The orbs quickly shot away from Drago as he swept his arms outwards, blasting straight towards the small Pig Pokémon. It hit its target quite well, and Argent could hear a sharp wail of pain coming from the confrontational Swinub. However, Swinub's battle wasn't over yet... not for him, despite the type disadvantage and his obvious lack of strength to do a lot of damage to the dragon-like Charizard. Argent watched as he seemed to be gathering together his energy for something, but he knew that Drago was also on the move, and would be finishing up with a Flame Burst, at which point Argent thought he'd attempt to capture the Pokémon. He'd have to hope for success, but he felt that he would have done enough after this attack to secure the Swinub in a Ball of some kind - he only had Super Balls and Hyper Balls, if he recalled correctly...

Drago, whose throat was now tingling with fire, released his Flame Burst attack - just at the same time as the Swinub released his Icy Wind. Flames shot through the seemingly mere breeze, and on impact with the Swinub, exploded into a pillar of flames, damaging the Pokémon quite badly. However, Drago was also damaged quite a bit at this stage, and now an Icy Wind was coming his way, and hit him without a problem - the problem only came to the Charizard and his trainer. The Swinub was scuttling about, completely exhausted of energy and quite burnt-looking, and Drago, while still quite healthy, definitely didn't like conditions as they were at the moment. Argent nodded - this was definitely the time for a capture.

"Drago, come back to me," Argent spoke, and Drago hastily retreated to Argent's side, hoping that he'd escape the bad weather. "I'll get you healed up and in your warm Poké Ball just as soon as I've captured this Swinub. Hang in there."

Argent brought out a Super Ball from his satchel swiftly, flinging it towards the Swinub. Curving in towards the Swinub, he seemed to have made a good throw. On contact with the Swinub, the Ball shot into the air and swallowed up the Swinub in a jet of red light. The Ball fell unceremoniously onto the ground, where it began to shake, like always. Once... twice...

The trainer nodded, deciding that the time had come to attempt to catch the opponent. He called out to his Charizard, "Drago, come back to me. I'll get you healed up and in your warm Poké Ball just as soon as I've captured this Swinub. Hang in there." With a sigh of relief, he hastily retreated back to his master as he shivered openly in the cold.

Argent retrieved a Superball from his bag. He swung his arm back, then swiftly brought it forward to fling the camo-designed orb towards the wild Pig Pokemon. It pushed against the snowstorm's fierce gusts of wind, curving in its path.

It tapped the Swinub lightly (and fortunately not where he had been badly wounded), then popped open, and released a beam of red light. The eccentric ray quickly surrounded the entity, sucking it back into the sphere. It snapped close, then landed on the rocky ground with a thud. It began to shake and wriggle - the Ice-Ground-type must still be fighting to escape with the remains of his strength. A moment later, we could all let out the breath we had been holding as the ball let out a satisfying click sound to signal the success of the capture attempt.

I walked over to pick it up, struggling to keep myself from shivering while in the midst of the hailstorm. A freezing breeze pushed past me, covering part of my face with snowflakes. Fortunately, I hadn't frozen over - just cold all over my body. I brushed the snow and bits of ice from my cheek and jacket as my teeth chattered in the cool temperature.

"Congratulations!" I told Argent as I kept the Superball in my messenger bag. "Rest up if you need to, then tell me whenever you're ready to move on and out of this freezing weather.

As the ball shook for a final time and stopped, Argent heaved a sigh of relief. At least that had worked, and now he could get himself and his Pokémon rested up in order to heal them and prepare them for whatever was coming next. Watching as Elisa walked to pick up the ball, he smiled wearily at her - the day was still young and he had only caught one Pokémon. Perhaps there would be more interesting Pokémon to capture further on down the line? He definitely hoped so, since he hadn't brought any disks that could affect his encounters here at Mt. Oktori. Argent was still freezing cold, but the warmth of his Fire-type Drago beside him made him quite a bit warmer, as well as the torch that Chimey was 'holding' providing some more warmth, but that still didn't make it not chilly - Argent hoped that further in, he'd be able to get out of the cold weather and he'd perhaps finally be warm. At least he wasn't in Mt. Deckbi - he'd hate to be really hot, rather than being really cold for some reason.

"Congratulations! Rest up if you need to, then tell me whenever you're ready to move on and out of this freezing weather," Elisa told Argent, and he nodded in response, turning fully to the two Pokémon beside him.

"Here, Chimey, let go of the torch," Argent said, taking the torch from his partner. Holding it loosely, Argent then instructed Chimey to use Heal Pulse on Drago. Heal Pulse was self-explanatory - it was simply a pulse of energy that could heal up a Pokémon in no time. Chimey closed her eyes for a moment, her body beginning to be outlined in a faint pink energy. Raising her stubby arms, she directed them to Drago, and the pink energy pulsed from the ends of her arms, coursing into Drago. Argent could see the beneficial effects on the Fire-type, as he seemed to be regaining his energy. Once Heal Pulse had taken its effect, Argent returned Drago to his Poké Ball to get him out of the cold, but Chimey was adamant that she stayed out of hers.

"Okay, I think we're ready to move on now, Elisa. Thanks."

"Here, Chimey, let go of the torch." Argent took the torch from his partner, then commanding her to use Heal Pulse on his Charizard.

The Chimecho nodded as Psychic-typed energy surged through her, a rather faint pink hue enveloping her. A small, glowing orb soon formed in front of her. It slowly grew bigger and bigger until it had reached the desired size. She directed the sphere towards Drago with her stubby hands, and with a push, the pulse was sent into the target. This move did not damage the creature; in fact, it healed him - giving him a new flood of strength and energy.

Afterwards, the trainer recalled the Fire-Flying-type back to his Pokeball. After all, the Flame Pokemon didn't like staying out here in the cold. The Psychic-type, on the other hand, insisted on staying out of her red-and-white housing.

"Okay, I think we're ready to move on now, Elisa. Thanks."

I nodded. "Alright, then." I walked on ahead, determined to get out of the hailstorm as soon as possible. I was just itching to see what other wild entities we would encounter on this expedition. I hoped there would be more decent or worthy Pokemon down the line, so as not to disappoint Mr. Silverswift. Swinub was already a a great find so early on, and I could only wish that our - ahem - luck would hold out.

We trudged on deeper into the mountains, soon escaping the cold, icy clutches of the snowstorm. The torch provided a sense of warmth, and luckily, the flames hadn't been blown out by the freezing gusts of wind from earlier. I looked around, making sure not to miss any creature that was possibly lurking around.

In the walls of the caves were holes of some-sort, which meant that there was a chance that some Pokemon were living there. I peered into one of them - empty and hollow. It seemed to lead to another cavern of Mount Oktori, all the way to the other side. Interesting... I glanced at another one, this time on the opposite wall. Still, it was empty. It wasn't as large as the first one, it didn't lead to another tunnel, either.

The third one was different, though. Shards of ice concealed the entity from enemy eyes as it hid among them. I dared to take a closer look. Resting peacefully in the carved out hole was a Pokemon that had a large, white, rounded upper body with a creamy-white swirling feature atop, causing it to resemble a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Small icy adornments were situated at the sides of its eyes, which were light blue in coloration with dark bluish pupils. It also had two specks of ice below its dark-blusih mouth, as well as stubby, icicle-like limbs. The Ice Snow Pokemon's lower body was pointed and icicle-like, too, and, with its upper body’s resembling a scoop of ice cream, it truly resembled a sugar ice cream cone.

"Vanillish, the Ice Snow Pokemon," my RDA piped up. There wasn't as much information about this encounter as I would have liked, but it was still worth noting, nonetheless. "Snowy mountains are this Pokémon's habitat. During an ancient ice age, the species moved to southern areas. It conceals itself from enemy eyes by creating many small ice particles and hiding among them."

"Want to battle it?" I asked. "It's sleeping now, but it couldn't hurt to try and wake it up if you so please."

"All right, then," was the reply from Argent's ranger, Ms. Fleming.

Soon enough, Argent and co. were out of the worst of the bad weather, and Argent was warming up quite considerably to Mt. Oktori - at least they weren't going up the trail around the mountain... that would have probably been too cold for him to bear that day. Argent was pretty much hoping for something else interesting to turn up - the start with Swinub was quite a good one, and he was hoping that more good 'mons would appear for him to capture. After all, he usually aimed to get three Pokémon per trip - not because he was greedy, but because he enjoyed training them all; another reason was that he could see how they really were, and this helped him research. Even though being a ranger in the National Park was his primary job, he was still a part-time Pokémon Researcher, as he enjoyed finding out and researching all the different types of Pokémon. Shrugging slightly, he lowered his torch a little as his arm was getting tired - he could have an easier time if he let Chimey 'carry' it. She didn't exert any strain whatsoever when carrying it, but he supposed that he still wouldn't make her do it anyway.

After a short while of walking, there was a strange-appearing 'wall' of ice particles, and Argent recognised this behaviour - having his own Vanilluxe which he had trained up from a Vanillite, he knew that this kind of wall could only have been put up by one of them in the line. Looking through small gaps in the particles, he recognised the creature as a Vanillish - the creature was too big to be a Vanillite, and a bit more developed too. With an ice-cream cone lower body, almost looking like it was made out of crystals, and an upper body which looked like a swirl of vanilla ice-cream, this was definitely a Vanillish. Besides, it didn't have two heads like Vanilluxe did.

"Vanillish, the Ice Snow Pokemon," came a noise from Elisa, only she wasn't speaking. "Snowy mountains are this Pokémon's habitat. During an ancient ice age, the species moved to southern areas. It conceals itself from enemy eyes by creating many small ice particles and hiding among them."

    "Uh..."

"Want to battle it?" she asked. "It's sleeping now, but it couldn't hurt to try and wake it up if you so please."

"No thanks, Elisa. I've already got a Vanilluxe - his name's Osmosis - so I don't really need to train another one. Thanks for the offer though, but I'd prefer it if we could try to sneak away. I have money for a Pokédoll in case it doesn't work."

    ooc; In case of escape not working - 2,000 - 500 = 1,500.

Argent shook his head, declining the offer. "No thanks, Elisa. I've already got a Vanilluxe - his name's Osmosis - so I don't really need to train another one. Thanks for the offer though, but I'd prefer it if we could try to sneak away. I have money for a Pokédoll in case it doesn't work."

I nodded - there wasn't much use in capturing another creature of the same species if you already had one. Exceptions would probably only be if they were exceedingly rare and worthy Pokemon which you could trade or might just be worth training another one - like a Rotom, for example.

We crept onwards, just in case the slight odds were against us and the entity did wake up. I held my breath for a few moments until we were clear. I breathed out a sigh of relief, leading the trainer deeper into the mountain.

I noticed there were less wild beings wandering around compared to the last time I had been here. Perhaps a few were getting ready to hibernate or something of that sort - I knew Cubchoo and Beartic would probably be doing that sooner or later.

I kicked a couple of lose rocks around the soil, some of it eroding and forming a cloud of dust around my sneakers. I didn't mind - not too much, anyway. I didn't think there was much use in keeping my footwear all sparkly clean if I was a ranger. After all, with all the runs we were going on to different zones of the National Park, we could certainly be sure of getting a bit dirty or dusty throughout the expedition.

"Any specific Pokemon you might be here for, Argent?" I asked, so I would know what to keep a special look-out for. I was absolutely sure that he wasn't here for Fighting-types, thus the use of the Fighting-type repellent. That left mostly Ice-types and a couple of other creatures whose types were very much varied.

The tunnels winded from left to right, upward and downward, in an unusual nature. The walls seemed sturdier now, with only an occasional hollow in one of them. The path we were taking soon branched off into two.

Both options had narrow passageways, though the left was quite a bit rockier than the other. I peered into each of the choices, noticing that both seemed to wind on and on forever. They both curved and turned, separated by only a not-so-wide wall of tough stone and rock. On my previous visit to Mt. Oktori, particularly with fellow ranger - Eric - when he was still a trainer then, the left path had led us upwards towards the top of Oktori.

"Which way would you like to go?" I turned to ask Argent. Personally, I didn't mind which path he would decide on taking. My only goal, as a ranger, was to guide him safely throughout the journey and to (hopefully) make sure the Park run would end satisfyingly. There was nothing better than to head back to the Ranger Headquarters after an expedition, knowing that the trainer had enjoyed his visit and was content with what he had brought home.

    OOC; @MuddyMudkip bleh, this is going nowhere. I guess it's my own fault for letting myself not post, but I got myself frustrated. y u make me choose ;-;

Elisa nodded blithely as Argent made his request to go past, and they both walked past quietly. The movement of Elisa's shoulders - or rather a lack of it - showed that she was holding her breath in for some reason, most likely because she didn't want to wake the Vanillish up. Argent knew that the Vanillish was probably unlikely to be disturbed by anything right now, especially behind the little wall, as generally much sound didn't penetrate their little walls, but Argent simply shrugged inwardly to himself, moving onwards with Chimey at his side. Elisa let out her breath once they had made it far enough away, and Argent resisted the temptation to raise his eyes to the sky, mainly because there was no sky currently above his head, and because that would have been rude anyway, and he didn't particularly want to be rude to someone who was only being herself.

Argent, having taken trips to Mt. Oktori several times in the past, thought it was rather strange how not very many were turning up - it was winter, he supposed, and so maybe a few of them were getting ready to settle in - perhaps the Cubchoo and Beartic, although he had no idea why. They were beings made of ice, so they'd pretty much be able to withstand the harsh temperatures and other climate-related factors that the winter would bring for them. Sighing, he moved on behind Elisa, still holding the torch aloft to light the way and to keep himself warm, as Drago and Cassidy rested in their respective Poké Balls, with his tenacious Chimecho hovering by his side because she didn't exactly like being placed in the confines of her Poké Ball.

"Any specific Pokemon you might be here for, Argent?" Elisa inquired out of the blue, almost sparking surprise in Argent. Argent took in a small, pensive breath, wondering how to reply.

"Not entirely, I guess. I came here mainly to see what Ice-types I could find - I might return to get some Fighting-types some other time, but for now I'm just looking for whatever comes my way that I don't have already. I suppose a Cryogonal would be fun, and I heard that since Outer Heavens was destroyed, Aerodactyl have been sighted around here. Catching one of those could be a hoot. I'd say that mainly something like a Sneasel or a Snorunt would be what I'm hoping for at the moment, however, although there are probably more things to spark my interest here."

As they walked, the paths they took began to branch outwards into two definable routes, and Argent knew what the inevitable question was before it even came to Elisa's lips.

"Which way would you like to go?" she asked, and Argent had to think again about it, although he decided a random choice would be the best way to go about it.

"Can we go left, please?" Argent asked politely in reply.

"Can we go left, please?" Argent replied politely.

"Alright," I agreed with a nod before taking a step into the left tunnel. Even though we were only at the beginning of the path, I could already see the path winding up towards the peak of the mountain. As far as I knew, Ice-typed creatures tended to live in the higher parts of the place for that was where temperatures were coldest.

I trudged on, hoping to find more wild entities wandering about. I would have thought there would be a bit more Pokemon roaming around than this, but I figured we'd see another encounter sooner or later. I took into account what the trainer had said earlier - he was looking for, perhaps, a Cryogonal or Aerodactyl here, or maybe a Snorunt or Sneasel. The latter two of the four weren't very rare specimens, especially when compared to Aerodactyl. However, they weren't the most common of Pokemon either, though I'd say we had a fairly good chance of encountering them.

Suddenly, the route widened into a whole new cavern. It was huge, really, in comparison to the width of the path we had just been taking that had led us to this dungeon. At the other side of the area, I noticed another passageway that was about as wide as the one we had just traversed along. That wasn't all that was in this cave, though. Finally, we had met up with our next encounter.

It was a white and brown creature that seemed to resemble a snow-covered fir tree. It had two, legless feet that looked a bit like tree roots. It also had a short, green, stubby tail. Two small spikes, also green in coloration, sprouted out from its back, which resembled mountains. Its hands were green, each having four fingers. The eyes that the Frost Tree Pokemon had were white with green pupils. It appears to have a hat that resembles a group of three mountains.

I lifted up my RDA to scan the wild organism, who was currently practicing one of its attacks. "Snover, the Frost Tree Pokémon. It lives in snowy mountains and resembles a wintry peak. In the spring, it grows berries with the texture of frozen treats around its belly. In battle it causes a storm to appear, hides itself in fog, and then creates and launches a ball of ice as a preemptive strike. Seemingly curious about people as they have had little contact with humans, they gather around footsteps they find on snowy mountains."

The Ice-Grass-type rose up its now-glimmering arms, then spun them around in a continuous, circular motion. Razor-sharp leaves twirled around it, surrounding it quickly. They went round and round in a swift speed as the entity put a handful of focus into performing this move. It hadn't noticed us yet, even with my gadget piping up. But I knew that if it did, there was little chance we could escape without a Pokedoll or toy.

"Would you happen to want a Snover?" I offered to my fellow Ranger. Its evolved form, Abomasnow, was quite a Pokemon to have on your team. I wasn't sure if Argent would be interested in one of them, though.

"All right," Elisa replied, seemingly agreeing with Argent's choice. Even as they turned left, Argent could see how the path spiralled upwards, and found it amazing how this seemed to all be a natural formation of the rock in the cave systems. Walking obediently behind Elisa, Argent looked around him to see if he could find any of the more interesting and rare Pokémon that he hoped to capture, but he knew he'd settle for a lot of things that he didn't train, if only for the challenge of training them. Argent had affirmed that he'd most like Cryogonal, Aerodactyl, Snorunt or Sneasel from the mountain, and he hoped that Elisa would lead him to at least one of them. They were the Pokémon that appealed to him the most here, and it seemed that Chimey also shared his opinions, except on Sneasel -- she had an irrational disliking for all Dark-types, and she absolutely despised having to be near one. Although Argent did have a few Dark-types, she generally avoided them and, in time, they had learned not to go near her.

As they got further up, Argent saw that the route opened out into a magnanimous cavern, which was far larger than any of the others -- and, since they were out of the bad weather now, a lot warmer than it was. Of course, Argent was still holding the torch, which shed light and warmth over the general area, so that added to the atmosphere beneficially. At the far side of the cave, however, there was another path, which seemed to be leading further upwards, although he couldn't be sure about that. Furthermore, the cave wasn't totally abandoned... here and now, they had stumbled upon another Pokémon, which definitely counted as an encounter in Argent's opinion. It was also something that Argent hadn't really seen before -- he wasn't, after all, from Sinnoh, so he didn't entirely know what it was. He knew it was a Snover, of course, but he didn't know much about him. That intrigued him.

The creature was a white and brown Pokémon that seemed to resemble a snow-covered fir tree. It had two, legless feet that looked a bit like tree roots. It also had a short, green, stubby tail. Two small spikes, also green in coloration, sprouted out from its back, which resembled mountains. Its hands were the same shade as the spikes as well, each having four fingers. The Pokémon's eyes were white with forest-green pupils. It additionally appeared to have a hat that resembles a group of three mountains. Elisa lifted her strange mechanical device to identify it further.

"Snover, the Frost Tree Pokémon. It lives in snowy mountains and resembles a wintry peak. In the spring, it grows berries with the texture of frozen treats around its belly. In battle it causes a storm to appear, hides itself in fog, and then creates and launches a ball of ice as a pre-emptive strike. Seemingly curious about people as they have had little contact with humans, they gather around footsteps they find on snowy mountains." To Argent, this seemed to be quite an interesting Pokémon, and the answer hovered on his lips once more before his fellow ranger had even asked the question.

"Would you happen to want a Snover?" Elisa offered, while the Snover seemed to be pre-occupying itself.

"I don't see why not. It'll be quite fun to battle, after all," Argent said. "I haven't met a Snover yet, but I'll try my best to capture it."

Seeing as Drago was probably still resting, and Argent wanted Chimey to wait in the sidelines for now, that only left Cassidy -- which seemed like a good choice in itself, seeing that Cassidy had Flamethrower, something that was definitely liable to damage the Snover. So, holding the torch to the side, he dragged a Poké Ball from the side of his belt, and flung it up into the air. As it flew, it burst open into a flow of white light, and it rushed to the ground, materialising into the shape of a Clefable, which was, of course, exactly what Cassidy was. She twirled slightly, and then turned back to Argent, seemingly awaiting any orders that he had for her. Argent caught the ball as it descended, and repocketed it.

"All right, Cassidy, seeing as Snover will be a challenge if he notices you straight off the bat, we'll use a surprise tactic. Firstly, Teleport to a suitable range - I'll leave that to your judgement - and straight afterwards, use a Flamethrower to pack some damage in before he can react. Sound okay to you?"

Cassidy nodded once in response, and twirled back around to face the Snover.

    "All right, then, let's start."

OOC: @Buoysel. Sorry for the delay, it's been quite a hectic week. Gender of Snover?

    BP#1

The first thing I learned when Argent accepted the challenge was that he wasn't from Sinnoh and did not know quite that much about the Pokemon that originated from there. I knew that this was going to be quite an interesting battle.

I didn't expect him to choose Cassidy, to say the least. But, now that I thought about it again, it did seem to be a reasonable choice, after all. Drago was still resting and probably wasn't in any shape to battle just yet - though I knew he wouldn't be one to complain. Then, between Cassidy and Chimey, the Normal-type was the one who had a super effective move against this encounter. Flamethrower, as I recalled, was one of the extra moves the trainer had taught his partner.

While the Snover was still preoccupied with his training, Argent had an ample amount of time to strategize and inform the Clefable about his plan. It was quite simple really (though maybe a bit difficult to perform since estimation and accuracy was of the essence here) - he was formulating some kind of a surprise attack of sorts.

The Normal-type nodded then closed her eyes in concentration. I figured it was quite a hard task to perform on the creature's part because she would have to gather up her energy for two very much different moves, and then execute them one immediately after the other. She was preparing herself for the Flamethrower assault, allowing fire to bubble up into her throat.

Then, a pink glow of Psychic energy enveloped her. It shifted her through time and space. One moment she had been standing right in front of her trainer; and then, the next, she was a short distance away from the Frost Tree Pokemon. It was almost like magic.

Snover spotted her now, but had little to no time to react. A spiraling stream of orange, red, and yellow flames burst out of her mouth. They flickered, moving back and forth like waves and tides. The embers went round and round to form a sort of vortex of fire. The inferno pushed against the Grass-Ice-type's body, and it seemed to bounce and spread upon contact. The blazes scorched its body, leaving it rather charred and bruised.

The wild entity decided to put into good use the move it had been practicing again and again. Razor Leaf. He repeated what he had been doing when we first arrived - spinning his arms round and round, his hands pointing upwards. To me, it looked somewhat like a ritual dance of sorts - as if to summon something. In this case, it would be some leaves. Multiple razor-sharp dark green leaves were released from his slightly glowing arms. They had sharp edges, spinning as they flew straight at the opponent.

I knew that these leaves were cutting edge - literally and figuratively. They could cut most things easily. The only downside was, they couldn't cut very deep wounds and tend to 'bounce' off thanks to being lightweight. Lucky for the Fairy Pokemon this was so - the assault dealing not too severe an amount of damage to her health. However, the razors did leave cuts and open gashes all over the Normal-type's body. She let out a wail of agony - the wounds stung her. It was as though she had been attacked with more leaves at the exact same spots. Only now did she feel the spasms of pain shooting through her body.

I glanced at Argent. This didn't look like a very, err, pleasant situation to me. Cassidy and the Snover seemed to be on pretty much equal footing as of yet.

    @MuddyMudkip (and male, please.)

After Argent had spoke, Cassidy closed her eyes in deep concentration -- after all, this would take a lot of conscious effort in order to get it exactly right. The two moves were highly different, and took different approaches to use them -- although Argent wasn't an expert, what he had heard about Pokémon moves sounded extremely complex, and the requirement to carry one out was a strain in itself. However, Pokémon being who they were, could, in fact, carry out these moves and it was never too much of a strain for them, and barely even a stretch for some. Again, though, some Pokémon simply can't bring their own powers to bend to some tasks, and that's why different species of Pokémon were limited to different moves -- the exception being Mew, of course, who could learn almost every move that was available for trainers to teach. However, that wasn't what was important at the moment. Cassidy had to get this right, no matter what -- their element of surprise would dissipate just as quickly as Argent had thought it up if she did this wrongly.

All of a sudden, a pink glow enveloped the Clefable's entire body, and she opened her eyes briefly to give a cheeky wink to Argent. Chimey looked on in concern, wondering whether Cassidy's sometimes over-enthusiastic attitude would foil this plan. Chimey wondered, personally, why she hadn't been used in the battle instead of Cassidy. She shrugged (well, not exactly, since she didn't have shoulders, but you know what's meant), and simply watched as Cassidy disappeared from the spot. It was no mean feat - one that she herself couldn't perform, in fact - but she knew the general theory behind it. At any rate, Cassidy was going through the atmosphere at an accelerated pace, and in the blink of an eye she was in the range of Snover, and she knew what to do from there. She had been letting the fire build up in her stomach before she had even teleported in the first place, and so she was prepared to do what needed to be done right now.

In a dreadful column, Cassidy released the flames. They whooshed towards the Snover, who, according to plan, had been caught by surprise, and as such he had not evaded the attack, but rather received it full-on. Almost forming a vortex for a brief moment, the flames whipped at the Snover searingly, charring and bruising the Grass- and Ice-type Pokémon. Argent, at least, was relieved that Cassidy hadn't damaged the surroundings -- not that she really could, since there was nothing that was flammable in caves. Argent wouldn't have been surprised, however -- Cassidy was prone to small mistakes, like setting rocks on fire quite by accident. None of those incidents had occurred, however, much to his relief. The battle could continue, and hopefully Cassidy wouldn't become too damaged as a result. After all, battles were sometimes nasty business, and Cassidy had found herself in some painful situations before -- but Argent was almost confident that she had gained enough sense by now to avoid major pain.

The Snover had now decided to deploy a move which he had been practising before the arrival of the small party -- that would be Razor Leaf, evidently. Argent, having trained a Leafeon, knew the potential of Razor Leaf, and as the Snover began twirling in order to conjure the leaves, Argent hoped that the move wouldn't harm Cassidy too badly. As the creature's arms began to glow, sharp leaves were launched from it, and Cassidy received the attack... somewhat badly. As they made gashes all over her body, she let out a wail in pain, looking back at her trainer pleadingly as if wanting him to end the pain for her. However, Argent had dealt with these kinds of cuts before -- nothing bad would come of them, although the cold could make her a little more subsceptible to the pain that the gashes might cause her. Argent wouldn't let her give in at this stage, and he had a suspicion that she was letting on to be in a little more pain than perhaps she actually was -- Argent thought that maybe fighting a bit more could help her take her mind off of it.

"All right, Cassidy," he called to her. "Don't worry -- it won't hurt for much longer. Once you feel you're ready, try a Thunder Wave to paralyse him. After your Thunder Wave, use Calm Mind. It'll help calm you down and relieve some of the pain, and raise some attacking power for you."

"All right, Cassidy," Argent began, calling out some encouraging words to his partner. He could very well see that she was hurt, but still they would push on. "Don't worry -- it won't hurt for much longer. Once you feel you're ready, try a Thunder Wave to paralyse him. After your Thunder Wave, use Calm Mind. It'll help calm you down and relieve some of the pain, and raise some attacking power for you."

She winced again, but managed a strong smile back at her trainer. She gazed steadily at her opponent, emotions conflicting within her. She was the friendly type of Pokemon who didn't want to damage her foe too badly, but, then, she hadn't expect herself to be hit this hard. She focused instead on delivering the next move. Since she was not an Electric-type, she had to get her power from elsewhere, from outside. Electricity pulsed into her; energy surged through her.

Then, the tips of her hands released a barrage of yellow tendrils that sparked threateningly. They quickly surrounded their target, wrapping him like vines crawling up a garden wall. The streaks bound him tightly, their grip never faltering. All the Clefable had to do was focus, and the Thunder Wave could continue on for as long as need be. Electricity seeped into the Snover's bloodstream, fighting his body cells. Soon, they conquered him, and as they did so, the tendrils finally loosened their grip and dissipated into thin air.

The Frost Tree Pokemon gasped, heaving for air. From there, paralysis took over. A spasm of pain shot through him, and suddenly, he found himself no longer being able to move his muscles and limbs. He squeaked out a cry of disbelief, as if to say, "What have you done to me?" As though someone had pushed him over, the creature simply fell backwards, motionless. He was paralyzed, and that was that.

The Normal-type closed her eyes, but this time... Was it in concentration or was it not? You would have to relax your mind if the move was to be performed successfully, but doing this also required a lot of energy, so would that not need concentration? I sighed inwardly - sometimes, you simply couldn't understand the Pokemon world. Well, as of right now, I believed that she was calming down her senses. She turned away from the thoughts of pain; away from the thoughts of war and battle. She didn't think of any dangers. In fact, she wasn't even thinking of anything. No, she wasn't sleeping - but, perhaps, it best be called some sort of "brain rest." Her mind was blank; her nerves were relaxed. Nothing (as in nothing, not not a thing) was soothing her body. It was like she was meditating - maybe she really was, only except without the "floating-in-the-air" part. Her Special Attack stat and Special Defense stat rose - she would now take less damage from non physical assaults while her special-typed moves would deal more damage.

She looked back at Argent, telling him that she was now ready. Her wounds may not have healed, but she definitely seemed at peace now. And she was certainly ready to continue the fight.

After Argent's voice resounded through the area, Cassidy managed a winsome smile at her trainer, and Argent had hope for her still -- of course, the smile had been preceded by a wince, but Argent was almost sure that his plan could relieve her of a lot of the pain she had been in previously. However, before he could carry that out, he'd need to have some kind of status put on the Snover -- a lasting one that debilitated him greatly, so that Cassidy would have time to recuperate in the manner that Argent had asked her to. Argent, smiling back at her, watched as she turned to face her opponent once more -- he clearly didn't know what she was up to, and Argent just hoped that he wouldn't evade this move. The price would be quite costly, and it would be one that he didn't want to pay in this battle -- and probably not in any battle. However, he knew that the Fairy Pokémon would be able to pull it off confidently, and extremely well at that.

As Electric-typed energy did not come naturally to Cassidy, she of course had to draw her power from her surroundings. Closing her eyes momentarily, she raised her pink hands into the air, and soon, tendrils of electricity began to twirl around her fingers, crackling. She jolted her hands forward quickly, and the electrical charge pulsed into her opponent, but this had a negative effect on the tree-like Pokémon. The electricity spiralled up his body, almost merging into him. He found himself slowed, and eventually unable to move. He gave Cassidy an outraged look, and toppled over backwards. Cassidy sighed, letting her arms drop -- she was still in quite a lot of pain, apparently, and perhaps the effort of that Thunder Wave tired her out. Argent hoped, however, that the next move he'd asked her to use would help relieve some of that pain -- or at least some of the discomfort she was obviously undergoing. In any case, Snover was paralysed now, and probably wasn't getting up in the near future, so Argent had the perfect opportunity to land an attack.

Cassidy closed her eyes in a semblance of concentration, except she wasn't concentrating on anything -- rather, she was concentrating on the concept of nothing. She was emptying her mind of all thoughts, simply erasing the canvas of what was there. Her breathing became rhythmical, her expression becoming more relaxed. Argent couldn't exactly tell what she was feeling, but he just hoped she was up to what she needed to do for him in this battle, and he couldn't have her being distracted by the pain that the Razor Leaf had caused her. However, she soon opened her eyes, all traces of the previous anguish gone. Argent was confident their plan could go on ahead now. Her special stats raised and her pain razed (ahaha puns), she flashed another smile at him.

"Okay, Cassidy: a Tri Attack and then another Flamethrower should do the trick. Don't hold back unless you see that the Snover is very close to fainting."
