Argent definitely liked the current situation they were in - paralysis was taking control of the opponent’s body; Cassidy was much stronger now and could easily damage him without too much trouble.

"Okay, Cassidy: a Tri Attack and then another Flamethrower should do the trick. Don't hold back unless you see that the Snover is very close to fainting,” Argent ordered, not wanting to waste any precious time. Who knew how long the status ailment could keep the wild entity down?

The Clefable concentrated on this attack. It may have been classified as a Normal-typed move, but, in reality, it was also a mixture of Fire, Electric, and Ice. Her hands were stretched out in front of her, and a glowing orb began to take shape in between them. The sphere was white at first, then a redish-orange hue, then yellow, and then a light shade of blue. The colors continued to shift and change, sometimes all of them at once. It was like a rainbow of sorts, swirling with dazzling bright hues.

She then pushed the ball forward, which almost immediately, upon release, burst into three different beams. One seemed to be changing between white and redish-orange, like flames; the middle one shifted between bright yellow and white; and the last was a mixture of light blue as well as white. All streaks connected with the Frost Tree Pokemon, dealing a severe amount of damage to the creature. There was a chance that he could be burnt or frozen by this attack, hence the three beams - for minor burns, paralysis, or freezing. However, in this case, he didn’t seem to have been with any of the other status conditions.

The Fairy Pokemon proceeded with the next part of the combo her trainer had commanded for. She powered up, letting flames gather up in her stomach all the way up to her throat. She inhaled a deep breath through her nose, then blew the vortex of swirling blazes out towards the Grass-Ice-type. The inferno enveloped Snover in a cyclone of fire, the embers surging against his body and setting it ablaze. When the attack had been completed, we could clearly see that he had been scorched just as badly as he had been when Cassidy had first performed the assault earlier.

We waited a couple of minutes before the opponent finally stood back up. He rose to his feet slowly and shakily. He knew he was on the losing end of this battle, but still he would fight. He produced a quick burst of cold air, sending a freezing gust of wind towards the trainer’s partner. The strong wind had sparkling blue snow, which would’ve been so nice a sight if it hadn’t been meant to be an attack. Icy Wind was weak version of Blizzard, not containing ice and freezing rain that its more powerful counterpart had. The cold breezes chilled the Clefable greatly, causing a loss of some speed. She shivered in the cold, taking a solid amount of damage to her health in the process. Luckily, though, she wasn’t frozen over.

The Frost Tree Pokemon wasn’t done yet, though. He raised one of his arms to shoulder level, sticking it out until it was as outstretched as it could go. He sprayed a large number of glimmering golden seeds made from Grass energy at the target. They shot through the air swiftly like real bullets, forming a vortex-like pattern.

The Snover was tired and weak now, that’s for sure. It was a good time now for Argent to attempt a capture... But, first, he’d have to get rid of those bullet seeds.

    @MuddyMudkip. If it's okay, I'd like to have the ball thrown in your next post -- after Cassidy teleports. That's what I'm getting Argent ready for. ;}

Cassidy sensed Argent's haste, and she stepped forwards confidently, her arms stretched out in front of her. She blinked several times, and a white orb swelled up in front of her palms, her digits spread out as the powerful orb sprang into existence. It soon began to change colour, and swapped between three different ones -- red, yellow, and blue. Different shades were brought up, and the colours were impressive in itself -- but the aesthetic appeal wasn't what was important right now. After all, this wasn't a contest, but a battle. However, she was soon ready -- the attack was charged, and it was now able to be released. She seemed slightly hesitant, however -- perhaps her rather compassionate nature towards her opponents gave her this reluctance to hurt them, but she still did what she had to do. She actually seemed to hold a small grudge against this Pokémon, however, for the pain that he caused her earlier on in the battle, and for that it seemed that Cassidy might have gone over the top.

"Release it, Cassidy!" Argent exclaimed, and she did precisely so. Drawing her arms sharply inwards, she burst them open in an arc, and the pulsating orb divided into beams, which blasted towards the Snover at an incredible pace. The three beams shone the three primary colours that had previously flashed when the attack was still just the orb -- red, yellow and blue, but they still flashed white as they shot towards the Snover. Each of the beams had a different effect, although they still only made Normal-typed damage against the opponent. The red beam could inflict a burn, the yellow beam could paralyse the opponent, and the light blue beam was able to freeze the opponent -- the only really possible status that could have been inflicted was a burn, but once the attack had hit, it showed no signs of changing the Snover's status, however much Argent would have liked it to -- however, he didn't really think that he'd be needing an extra status at the end of the day. After they were finished, he just hoped he'd be able to capture it without additional complications.

After hitting her opponent, Cassidy twirled slightly, and danced forwards, drawing in her breath. She let the flames gurgle in her throat until it was almost too much to bear, and then she unleashed the flames in a devastating column of fire, which permeated the Snover's very being on impact. Charred and a little dazed-looking, the Snover didn't really seem to be going anywhere. However, after a few moments, the Snover pushed himself onto his feet, and directed his "hands" at Cassidy, and as he did so, a sudden glacial breeze sprung up. It was forced in Cassidy's direction, and the cold seemed to strike her, especially seeing she had open wounds. After that, a number of strange seeds flew up into the air, generated from seemingly nothing, and these were also launched at Cassidy. However, they were mainly vortex-like, and it didn't seem like any of them were striking at the Fairy Pokémon, thankfully. The Snover was extremely hurt, and all Argent had to do was throw a ball... but he needed to get rid of the Bullet Seeds first.

He was tired of this. There were too many distractions. "Okay, Cassidy! Teleport out of there."

He grasped a Super Ball in the palm of his hand after extracting it from his satchel, and was going to throw it just as soon as Cassidy had escaped from the vortex. He curled his fingers around it, raising it into the air slightly in anticipation.

"Okay, Cassidy! Teleport out of there." Argent was tired of this - it was evident in his tone. He was simply itching to capture this Snover already. He opened up his messenger bag, quickly rummaging through it until he found a Super Ball.

By this time, the Clefable was glowing brightly white. Then, she vanished - just like that. The golden seeds attacked the cave ground where she had been standing on just moments before. The wild entity looked around bewildered. Where had she gone this time?

The trainer swung his arm back, then pushed it forward like the perfect baseball pitch. The orb went flying, soaring through the air as though it had wings of its own. At that same time, the Normal-type had appeared about a meter away from the Frost Tree Pokemon. She appeared with a slight flash, looking almost a bit pixelated as her body molecules transferred from one place to another. It was too late for him to snag in a final assault now as the sphere smacked him in the cheek straight on.

A blast of red light burst out as the orb snapped open. The beam enveloped the creature, outlining his body with a dazzling neon red. He was pulled into the spherical container, then it clicked tightly shut. The ball landed on the rocky ground, shaking and wriggling continuously.

Moments passed... But it seemed like hours. Even though I wasn’t the one who was catching the Grass-Ice-type, I still felt that time was moving at a snail’s pace. I knew Argent just couldn’t wait to see what the outcome would be, and so couldn’t his partner who could just stare at the rolling Superball.

At long last, we heard that familiar satisfying sound. It had finally stopped shaking. It stood still, signaling that the capture had been successful.

Cassidy picked up the Superball. She walked back to us happily, then presented it to me. I smiled, taking it from her. I placed it in my brown bag, right next to the other sphere which contained Swinub.

“Alright, great job, Argent! Tell me when you’re ready to continue onwards.”

As Cassidy swiftly disappeared into thin air, the vortex of seeds hit the ground, the Snover looking absolutely scandalised at this. Looking around, he saw how Cassidy had returned to Argent's side, but it wouldn't make a difference now -- he'd be too tired to fight back at this stage, and Argent knew it and was practically counting on it right now. Once Cassidy had reappeared near him, he sighed, and lobbed the ball. It curved neatly towards the Snover, and Argent simply couldn't wait to capture the Pokémon. As it made contact with the Snover - in its cheek, as far as Argent could see - the Pokémon flashed a bright red as the energy from the Super Ball enveloped him, and he began to dematerialise in front of the group, slowly getting sucked into the capture device that had flown into the air.

And when do I get to battle? Chimey asked of Argent rather tartly, giving him a sidelong glance that just spelt trouble in his eyes. Argent often left Chimey out until last for some reason that he hadn't actually discovered himself -- maybe he just preferred her company to the others, but he knew that when she was on the field and battling, they were a perfect team, although sometimes they disagreed on that. Argent and Chimey had been together for so long that it was no longer necessary to put their feelings into words sometimes, as they simply knew each other too well -- but they tried to be as vocal with each other as they could, because frankly, the feeling still freaked the both of them out. And although they had their disagreements from time to time, their relationship together really did go beyond words, and nothing could really describe their partnership together -- it was like one of those things that was meant to be. It was stellar, how they worked together -- when Argent sent her into battle, that was, which wasn't really all that frequently in the park.

I don't know, Chimey -- maybe in the next battle, depending on what pops up. If it's something like Sneasel, I don't think you should really be taking it on... especially with this unfounded prejudice against all Dark-types, Argent replied.

I don't have a prejudice... well, not an unfounded one, anyway. They're so creepy, and they're always out to get us Psychic-types. They're all attack-y, evil and rough. They're abhorrent, unwholesome. I will draw on the more colourful parts of my vocabulary if you want me to.

Stop trying to show off. With that, Argent turned to Cassidy, who waddled towards him, still in some amount of pain from the wounds, and from the damage she had sustained over the battle -- she was still quite healthy, but not exactly the best. Argent knew he'd have to get her to do something, because she wasn't really clever enough to think of healing herself - well, herself - Argent supposed. Although he'd taught her a myriad of different moves, her memory needed a little bit of jogging sometimes to get her to remember certain things, and she often forgot what she could do. That didn't matter, though, as Argent knew and remembered her capabilities and moves, and usually when he mentioned it, she would remember and proceed. "Cassidy, you should use Softboiled to heal yourself up. D'you remember how to do that?"

Cassidy nodded, and raised her arms into the air, and a small, egg-shaped, yellow orb appeared in between her hands. She lowered it down onto herself, and was covered in that golden glow for a few moments. Her cuts healed up a bit, and she was regaining her health at a steady rate -- when the glow faded, it seemed that she was back to her old self. Argent smiled at her, and quietly drew out her Poké Ball. "Okay, have a rest now, Cassidy. You've done brilliantly."

A quick flash of white light, and Cassidy was withdrawn. Argent glanced over at Elisa, his Ranger, who had spoken earlier. "Thanks. Can we continue onwards, please?"

"Cassidy, you should use Softboiled to heal yourself up. D'you remember how to do that?" Argent instructed his partner, who seemed very badly bruised from the bout. As the adrenaline rush from the bout disappeared, now she really began to feel the pain stinging from the cuts and wounds scattered all over her pink body.

The Clefable nodded, then raised her hands over her head. In between them, a golden egg emerged. It glowed brightly in the darkness of the cave, illuminating it as the rays of light sliced through the darkness. It was simply pulsing with energy - the healing energy. It melted to envelop her, its energy outlining her body and seeping into her. She was soon healed - energy, power, and strength came to her quickly, replenishing her from the loss during the fight.

The trainer called the Normal-type back to her Pokeball. Afterwards, he turned back to me, and said, "Thanks. Can we continue onwards, please?"

    I nodded. “Sure.”

I led him and Chimey across the floor of the cavern we were in, and into the looming tunnel ahead. It wasn’t the widest of tunnels; however, it was big enough for all of us to fit in it, even when standing side by side, with room for about one or two more people.

The road changed quickly thereafter - it became steeper, the slope almost gone once we had traversed for a bit more than half of a mile. For a short amount of time, we were almost rock-climbing our way through the path, and my foot had lost its footing more than once with the fragile rocks tumbling downwards. The temperature was dropping as we continued our ascend inside Mount Oktori.

Pretty soon, we heard a loud roar coming from somewhere up ahead and not too far away. As if upon reflex, my body suddenly having a burst of energy, I sped up in the climb, eager to see what the next encounter would be. The passageway sloped into a flat route, and I pulled myself up to that flat-ish part of the cave, escaping the need to climb just to get anywhere. That same growl came again, much closer now, and echoing around us.

Then, we (or, at least, I believe we all did) saw it. Right up ahead... Right in front of us, blocking our path, was an eight-foot-tall bipedal polar bear - I very simply felt extremely short and small, possibly even scrawny, compared to it. It had a very light blue shade, so light it almost looked like white. Its underside was quite furry, and the nails on its forepaws were large and black. On the Freezing Pokemon's ursine face and neck were three spikes seemingly made of pure ice, forming a beard of sorts.

"How about a Beartic, eh, Argent?"

OOC: @MuddyMudkip, can I buy a Pokédoll in case the escape doesn't work?

Argent found himself led on through the cave system by Elisa, and he promptly found himself in a tunnel that wasn't very wide -- of course, it was quite large, with ample room for them all, but all the same, it sent off the kind of vibes that would drive the claustrophobic wild. Truthfully, Argent was on edge -- although he was sure the cave systems were stable, he knew that if there was a loud enough sound, the surroundings could be shaken and... well, cave in, if you excused the bad pun. That's kind of why Argent didn't want to risk using Chimey in a battle -- not yet, at least. The cave system could be sort of unstable, and Chimey's powers revolved mostly around sound, truthfully. Although she didn't have that many sound-based moves, she still had enough to destroy any cave accidentally. He didn't exactly want that -- he supposed, however, that he had promised her that she could battle the next thing that he wanted to capture, and he knew that he would be held to his promise. He wondered what exactly it would be.

The road was changing quickly, becoming steeper and fluctuating wildly. Argent felt like he was traversing an obstacle course rather than a cave system, although he supposed that was all part of the fun. Elisa was quite agile, and she seemed to be handling the troubles easily -- she was young, of course, and it seemed she'd been training hard for situations like these. Argent, also a trainer, followed lithely as they traversed. Chimey was barely active -- she was simply floating through the air, dodging various bits as they came her way, but otherwise, she wasn't doing very much. Argent even noticed that they came across some kind of wall -- and, of course, they had to drag themselves up it. Elisa lost her footing a few times, and kicked some rocks down -- most of which hit Argent in the face, which he didn't mind all that much. They were only small ones. Kind of. At any rate, Argent pulled himself up the wall as quickly as he could muster, and eventually he came to the top. Sighing, he stretched slightly, working out the kinks in his muscles -- he grabbed the torch once more from Chimey, who had 'carried' it up the wall. She was yawning at this stage -- almost to rub her lack of effort in.

    Don't show off.

As they continued on, Argent's heart almost stopped as he heard a sudden roar. Elisa, of course, sped up, and Argent matched his own pace to hers, although he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to meet whatever it was that was roaring. He didn't much like things that roared. They were often scary, and this thing sounded like it was massive -- much taller than Argent, and it had to be admitted, Argent was quite tall. At any rate, they were rounding the corner, and the passageway through which they came was now turning flat, and he didn't have to jump and dive his way through now. He could just walk, like any sane person -- he felt sorry for any unfit person who had to go through that kind of trial. Even though he was probably over the worst, he felt like it was a mistake to have chosen the left path -- it was freezing cold now, even colder than before, and he was facing potentially dangerous creatures the further he went up. He would have done anything for at least a cup of tea -- he'd brought a thermos with him, actually, but he didn't think it would be appropriate to ask for a pause simply so he could drink some tea.

And then he saw it... in fact, it would be almost impossible not to see. In their path, a gigantic - Argent guessed around eight foot or so - polar bear stood in their way. Argent felt like he was shrinking into insignificance, and judging by Elisa's expression, she seemed to feel the same way. He looked up at the large creature -- it was a very light blue, almost some kind of ghostly white. It seemed to be quite furry, but it didn't have that cuteness that was associated with the abundance of fur. Its claws, in fact, looked extremely intimidating. Argent was certainly -- well, scared, he guessed. He kind of wanted to get away from it as soon as possible. Chimey floated forwards, looking up at the Beartic and smirking slightly. She was absolutely tiny compared to him -- Chimecho, her species, were one of the smallest fully-evolved Pokémon that existed... and she was looking at probably one of the biggest. She wasn't at all frightened, however -- actually, Argent could feel through their link that she was amused by the Beartic, like its bulk was all put on for show or something.

"How about a Beartic, eh, Argent?" Elisa asked -- Argent wondered how she could even voice the traditional question so casually.

"No... uh, no thanks," Argent replied, still eyeing the Beartic apprehensively.

@Buoysel - Sorry, got sick. I’m a bit better now so forcing myself to post. Don’t know how good the quality is, but I hope it’s decent-ish. Oh, and, the escape worked so you can keep your money.

    NBP#8

Argent quickly refused the offer as he eyed the large wild entity warily. I nodded, not very much surprised at his decision. Then, I proceeded to hurriedly rack my brain for a way for us to escape this Ice-typed beast. Obviously, we couldn’t just charge our way past him, and there wasn’t much for going around him... But, maybe, just maybe, we could tunnel out a side path of sorts. It was a bit on the risky side of things, but it could work.

    I turned to my Gallade. {Alright, let’s try digging our way around that Beartic,} I began, rambling out my plan to him.{Power up first with Swords Dance, then try to crack the wall of the cave by using Psycho Cut. Then, proceed to tunnel through it - it doesn’t have to be very big so as not to have the mountain toppling down on top of us.}

As the Psychic-Fighting-type began a dance and chant of sorts, I turned to the trainer. “We’re going to have to get a bit down and dirty while tunneling through the path that Archer’s going to create,” I told him about the plan.

In a moment, he was powered up and ready to go. His arms began to glow, then he extended them to become somewhat like swords. They now glimmered a bright blue Psychic-typed hue, powering up his arms as though they were mystic and magical swords and weapons. He swiftly brought one of them down against the hard rock of the cave wall. It was the perfect swing, like a true swordsman’s, and the stone cracked under the force of the impact. I watched my Pokemon closely - he looked perfectly calm in what he was doing, as if this was no sweat at all. Sometimes, I envied him of his “inner peace”, which just led to a bit more bragging on his part and boosting to his adamant ego.

Next thing we knew, another crack had sputtered throughout the soil and rock. It opened the hole bigger, and, carefully, using his Psychic-powers and completely focusing on the task at hand, the Blade Pokemon controlled the now-loose pieces of the wall. They were enveloped in the same blue light, the energy connecting them to Archer. He pulled the stones away from the wall, creating a hole big enough for all of us to fit in.

{Okay, you’re doing great so far, Archer! Lead the way and sortof carve out a pathway for us, will you?} He simply nodded as he trudged into the hole, slashing his way through the rocks. It was a long and eventually rather tiring process, but I believed in my partner and I knew he would pull through with it - he just had to.

“Let’s go then, so we can get away from the Freezing Pokemon,” I said to Argent, gesturing for him to follow.

I stepped into the tunnel, immediately greeted by protrusions peeping out here and there. I ducked every now and then to avoid banging my head against a jar of rock tips. I was careful to to trip on or bump into any of the outcrops of stones that filled the area - one wrong move and I could be heading home with a wound or cut.

As soon as Argent had declined the offer of the Beartic - which was rather hastily, he had to admit - Elisa nodded politely and turned to her Gallade that had been accompanying her throughout the journey. Argent hadn't really been paying him that much attention throughout the expedition, but Argent could see that they were conversing -- she had the air of someone who was. Chimey could skim the thoughts that connected them briefly, but Argent mostly urged her not to -- it was a bad habit that he'd been trying to break her of, much like the sarcasm that plagued her speech a lot of the time. He sighed, but he knew that this conversation couldn't be hurried up. He just wished he could move on -- he felt like he'd been spending months in Mt. Oktori, but in reality he had only been here for a while, and they hadn't done much yet. Of course, Argent had triumphed in two battles and captured those Pokémon, but nothing much else. He also seemed to be encountering less Pokémon than he had in other runs.

"We’re going to have to get a bit down and dirty while tunneling through the path that Archer’s going to create," Elisa said, and began sketching in the plan for them. Argent nodded, comprehending, and turned his attention to Archer the Gallade, who had finished his strange chanting and dancing, and had began slashing systematically against the side of the cave, dislodging rocks and debris as he did so. Argent smiled patiently, appreciating the plan's ingenuity and the practical use for it -- he just hoped that the Beartic didn't notice them escaping before they had got time to clamber out of reach. As Archer got in deeper, Argent could see him using his psychic powers at the same time as his slashing to move the stones from their way as he dug through further. Argent wondered where this path would lead to, but hopefully it wouldn't open out into a pitfall or something similar -- like over the outer ridge of Oktori, perhaps.

"Let’s go, then, so we can get away from the Freezing Pokemon," Elisa said, and Argent had no choice but to follow her inside the pathway that Archer had carved out, still holding the torch to cast light in the darkness of the path. Chimey sighed, weaving to and fro as she tried to avoid getting herself chopped to pieces by the various stones and spikes that seemed to jut out from everywhere. Argent was also doing similarly, although he unfortunately caught himself on a few things here and there, grazing his legs and arms as he tried to walk through. He hoped that he found something else he was looking for -- he hadn't wanted the Snover as badly as he'd have liked some other Pokémon, but he knew he'd just have to wait and see to find what turned up.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“You want me to go where?”

“You heard me the first time, Makina, Mount Oktori,” the secretary replied, giving the Ranger an icy stare that could stop anyone in their tracks. “The Ranger leading the run has fallen sick, so we're having her leave early.”

“Is she going to be all right?” Makina asked, now giving a slight frown. Since most Rangers had a somewhat healthy immune system due to all of the physical exercise they went through daily, it was almost unheard of for them to become sick enough to be forced home early.

“Elisa will be fine, she just needs a little rest. Now, will you accept the run or not?”

Makina nodded, pulling out her PDA as she walked over to the nearby coat rack. If she was going to head to such a frigid climate, might as well grab something thicker to wear. “Just toss me the latest info about the run so far, and I'll head out,” she responded. Once Makina had grabbed one of the coats, a figure to her right walked gracefully towards the Ranger.

<Do you have a plan? If they're in the middle of a Run, the front gate is most likely the last place they would be,> the figure silently stated. This was Aria, Makina's Gardevoir and most common partner to use around the Park. Currently she was looking over at her partner's PDA, managing to spirit away the device while the human was preoccupied. While her face had a perfectly neutral expression at first, it slowly formed a small smile as she noticed just who they were going to take through now, <Oh, you're going to love this...>

“Fill me in when we get there.” Makina said, heading over to Aria. “As for how we're going to find them, Elisa has a Gallade, right? Mind focusing on his location?”

<You mean Archer? That might be possible,> the Gardevoir admitted, closing her eyes to better focus. After a short moment, her red eyes snapped open once, and she nodded, <they're in the cave system. Something seems strange, though. They seem to be in a wall.>

“We'll figure that out when we see it. Ready to head out?”

With that, both Gardevoir and Ranger winked out, reappearing inside one of the many caverns dotting the area surrounding Mount Oktori. They appeared to be right in the middle of a small tunnel dug into the cavern wall, and carved rather recently judging by the debris littering the floor within. As the two walked further ahead, they managed to spot Elisa and Archer just as the Gallade was carving the last part of the tunnel, leaving an opening just large enough to squeeze in to the other side.

“We're here to take over for you, courtesy of the head secretary,” Makina said, walking over to Elisa. “Don't worry about it, just get some rest.” On her other side, Aria was relaying the same message to Archer. After a moment, both the Gallade and Ranger vanished, Archer opting to use his own Teleport to hasten the process of heading home. “Well, now that formalities are out of the way, where's our Trainer?”

<He sneaked through the opening while you were preoccupied,> Aria remarked drily, pointing at the tail-end of a white figure disappearing out of sight. <They must be in a hurry.>

“Sonofa-” Makina muttered under her breath, entering the opening as well to catch up. “Hold on just a moment, please! It's unsafe to go ahead without a Ranger, especially when we don't know what's ahead!” As she nade her way out of the tunnel, Makina was introduced to two new sights, both equally strange. First of all, the Pokemon-made tunnel had led to another section of the cave entirely, revealing a clearing about twenty yards long and a small frozen lake resting near the far wall. To their left, there was another tunnel, this one appearing to be naturally formed and leading to another area. The second sight was the the Trainer himself who, not only had a small Chimecho floating nearby, but appeared to be somewhat familiar... “Wait, is that you, Argent?”

Before Argent could reply, there was a loud crack as something was emerging from the water nearby, apparently breaking the thin layer of ice coating the top to do so. It's blue form, while appearing to be rather clumsy on land, was likely far more agile underwater. For now though, it appeared to be interested in the group and their strange way of entering this area.

“Guess introductions will have to wait for now. Interested in a Sealeo?”

Argent had noticed Elisa's failing condition for a while now, and she was slowing as they came to the end of the tunnel that Archer had so skilfully carved out to transpose them from before the Beartic to another place -- the cave was quite nice-looking in fact, and it had a pool of water nearby. It was strange to find water so high up, but then again, it had to be somewhere, didn't it? He supposed that some of the more aquatic Pokémon to be found in Oktori, such as the Spheal family, would be residing in that pool. The water reflected off of the stones, the light from Argent's torch casting a rather pretty light along the rocks that hung over the pool. However, Elisa wasn't doing too well, and Argent looked down at her in concern, wondering what he could do for her. Archer, her Gallade, had been looking up at him helplessly, and he got an idea. Taking out a small mobile device that he carried with him, he hoped that there would be signal up in the mountains -- he had to contact the head office or one of the outposts. Flicking the device open, he dialled in a few numbers and held it to his ear. The dialling tone rang, and then the intermittent beeping sounds went off. Eventually, someone picked up.

"Hello?" came a female voice on the other side. One of the secretaries.

"Hey, it's Argent. Listen, I'm on a personal run at the moment, and my ranger - y'know, Elisa Fleming - has fallen sick. Could you call in a replacement for her? I'll talk to her Gallade, and he'll lead her back. I'll wait until the new ranger has came first."

"That's all right, Argent. We'll dispatch someone immediately," the secretary replied. She hung up, and Argent was left. He clutched one arm to himself, and began to chat to Archer nervously to pass the time, waiting for the new ranger to come along.

Help's on its way, you know, Chimey supplied helpfully, after being seemingly lost in thought for a while. She'd simply dandered off into her own mindspace, and, being telepathic, she was able to detect other psychics from long distances. Archer the Gallade was prominent in her thoughts, being very nearby, but at the edge of her mind's eye she could sense a creature similar to Archer, but yet was not -- she had a sleek form. Of course. Gardevoir. Chimey skimmed across the uppermost layers of the feelings generated by the Psychic-type -- they were intent on getting to Mt. Oktori, at least. Chimey and Argent would just have to wait. Argent was still sitting there, chatting to Archer animatedly, although the blade-armed Pokémon couldn't reply in the human tongue that Argent was using to blabber at him. Chimey's commune had thrown him from his babbling, and he looked up at Chimey, his expression mysterious. He was anticipating the arrival of this new ranger, and the new one would obviously bring with him or her a new pace. It had been slow going with Elisa so far, and now that she was sick, they'd be getting a swift change in progression. It was about time, too, anyway -- she hated to think that it needed something so drastic as illness to bring on something more exciting. She felt like she'd been on this run for months already.

Let's hope so, Chimey, Argent replied simply.

    ***

It seemed like forever, but Argent heard footsteps, and a voice. "Sonofa--" the voice started, only to interrupt herself. "Argent, is that you?"

Archer had teleported Elisa away at this point -- the use of the move had guaranteed a quick escape, although Teleport was rather rough on the senses from time to time. In her current state, Argent wondered whether the use of that kind of transport was altogether kind to Elisa in her anguish and generally good for a person anyway. He only had Cassidy use Teleport with him when he was feeling quite well -- and even then, he felt like vomiting afterwards. In any case, Elisa would be taken care of from that point onwards. Argent smiled, and he whirled towards the source of the voice. He flicked some of the blue-black hair out of his face, his deep blue eyes trying to make out who the figure was. However, before he could reply, something broke from the surface of the pool.

Like Argent had suspected, it was a member of the Spheal family -- Sealeo. It had a sleek blue form that smoothly cruised through the water at high speed, although the creature wasn't much adapted for life on land, unfortunately. It hovered at the edge of the pool, simply staring at the group. Argent got the feeling it was curious about how they had entered. Unlike the other humans, Argent came through the wall... instead of walking through a tunnel, or on a path.

The woman came to his side. "Guess introductions will have to wait for now. Interested in a Sealeo?"

"No thanks. It'll be better if we just left it alone."

    OOC: Will use a Pokédoll if this escape fails. {3,750 - 500 = 3,250.}

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

"No thanks. It'll be better if we just left it alone," Argent responded, clearly eager to move on ahead.

“Fair enough,” Makina shrugged, seeing nothing wrong with Argent's decision. While Sealeo were a decent Pokemon to own if one preferred a bulky member on their team, they were far from rare either. She pointed over to the nearby tunnel, making clear the fact that they were to make their way over there to continue on. They had hardly traveled a step away though when the Sealeo let out a loud bark and began to wobble over to the group, clearly interested in a battle.

“Looks like it's interested in a battle after all,” Makina looked over at Argent, and was surprised to see that he had already fished out his wallet and was now holding out a wad of cash towards her. Nodding, she accepted the money and pulled out a Pokedoll from her pack, this one carrying a similar resemblance to a Seel. She lightly tossed the Doll to the approaching Pokemon, and the Sealeo managed to catch the toy in mid-air. The Water-type tossed the Doll upwards, then balanced the plush on it's nose in an impressive balancing act.

By this time, the group had retreated into the tunnel, and were both out of sight and out of mind from the Sealeo. “Now that we have a moment, let me introduce myself, or re-introduce if you remember me already,” Makina grinned, holding out a hand towards Argent. “I'm Makina, and the Gardevoir next to me is Aria. We've met before, but it was always in the middle of paper runs. Was there anything in particular you were looking for in this area?”

Aria, who was making her own introductions to the Chimecho floating beside Argent, froze as something appeared to take form in her mind's eye. <There's something nearby,> she warned her partner, looking at something currently unseen ahead of them.

We're in luck then, Makina silently replied, then began to lead the group further on in. The tunnel seemed rather plain compared to the cave they had just passed by, the walls plain and worn down due to the ravages of time. It was possible that in the past there may have been an underwater system here, explaining how these walls had become so eroded over time, due to the fact that there was no way wind could have seeped in and done the damage instead. As they walked ahead, a faint scraping noise could be heard, as if something was digging into the wall. The sound grew louder with each passing step, proving that whoever the culprit was, they were growing closer.

Finally, they had managed to reach a fork in the path. Here the path branched off both to their left and right; the left appearing to reach upwards and to the higher parts of the mountain, and the right keeping an even ground and possibly leading to a more complex tunnel system. For now they had company- kneeling right in front of them, a small creature was digging into the lower part of the wall, trying to dig a small cubbyhole with it's claws. The Pokemon was covered in a short dark blue fur that bordered on black, and and a small featherlike crest adorning one of it's ears.

“It seems to be pretty absorbed in it's work, but we'll have to be quiet if we wish to sneak past,” Makina remarked to Argent, trying to keep her voice low so avoid startling the Pokemon. “Sneasel are quite the catch though, are you interested?”

OOC: I'd like Sneasel to be female, please.

"Fair enough," the new ranger replied to Argent, almost as if she could tell that he was eager to move on ahead -- he wasn't really being unrealistic about the entire situation, though. Sealeo were good -- in fact, Walrein were a heavily reliable Pokémon to have on a battling team as a good all-rounder, but the problem was that Argent had came here for the more rare Pokémon. Sealeo, although Argent knew they were trustworthy, and altogether cute, they were not very rare. You could hardly move an inch near water in Hoenn for the amount of Spheal, as a matter of fact. Argent really hoped he could get something else, rather than what had appeared. He wasn't even sure he wanted to claim the Snover he'd caught -- sure, it was rather rare, and Abomasnow was powerful, but he didn't really want him. He supposed he'd caught the Snover out of a need to get something, because he'd felt like the run wouldn't really have lasted long. However, this new ranger seemed to bring with her a new kind of liveliness, and he supposed that he'd stay until the end just to see what would be brought their way. He smiled gently towards the Sealeo, and hoped that the thing would let them pass -- it was always kind of a disappointment when things that he wasn't interested in were all of a sudden interested in him. And it was always the things he wanted that were interested in something else. Yeah. He'd had that kind of luck with girls. Fortunately, Clara had came along and saved him the bother of searching for someone new -- he didn't even know what attracted the two of them together anyway.

The ranger, who still hadn't introduced herself, made a gesture towards the tunnel, just to indicate that that was where they'd be heading to. That was if they escaped. However, they took a step forwards, and the Sealeo waddled further towards them, and Argent groaned inwardly. It would be one of these encounters. The deep blue creature let out a loud bark, reverberating off the cavern walls. It was sniffing eagerly, still wobbling uncertainly on its way towards the group. Argent clasped his hands to himself, fumbling about for his wallet. He took the cash that was necessary from out if it, and waited to see what the ranger would do before she decided to look to Argent for another decision. "Looks like it's interested in a battle after all," she said simply, and she turned to Argent. She seemed to be surprised that he was already prepared with his money. He politely handed it to her, and she accepted it without a word, but with a slight nod. She produced a small, pink stuffed toy. She tossed the Pokédoll towards the Sealeo, who, with a surprising show, managed to catch the thing in mid-air. It lightly tossed the ball into the air, and then began to balance it on its nose. It was now distracted.

Argent had swiftly followed the ranger into the tunnel, now out of earshot and sight of the Ball Roll Pokémon. The ranger turned to him, obviously about to make an introduction. "Now that we have a moment, let me introduce myself, or re-introduce if you remember me already," she began. She did look sort of familiar. She had that familiar grin -- he was sure he'd seen her about the office before. "I'm Makina, and the Gardevoir next to me is Aria. We've met before, but it was always in the middle of paper runs. Was there anything in particular you were looking for in this area?"

That's who she was! Makina Auron. She was one of the newer rangers that Argent had seen about -- although he was sure there was someone even newer in the office. The guy liked to think he was a ninja or something. He had no idea what the elites were thinking by hiring him, but he decided to trust their judgement for the time being. "Oh, hey. Yeah, I recognise you now -- I didn't actually at first. And, uh, Elisa asked me a similar question. Nothing in particular, admittedly, although I am looking for some things. Swinub is something I've already caught. A Sneasel or a Snorunt would be nice, actually. Maybe an Aerodactyl or Cryogonal, although they're really rare."

Aria, the Gardevoir that Makina had just introduced, was making her own introductions to Chimey, but she stopped in her tracks. The Wind Chime Pokémon looked concernedly at her, and the Gardevoir turned to her trainer, apparently notifying her of something. Nodding shortly, Makina led them on through the tunnel resolutely -- what was going on? They had just been chatting, and then Makina suddenly walks away. Argent hurried after her. Perhaps this was going to be an encounter or something. The tunnel opened up into a cave, a scratching noise coming from one of the sides -- the stones seemed to be extremely weathered. Argent turned his attention to a creature who was slashing her claws at the rocks. A Sneasel. Blue-black fur, the colour almost resembling Argent's own untamed hair, was ruffled. She had sharp digits that almost seemed like talons. This was something Argent was looking for.

"It seems to be pretty absorbed in it's work, but we'll have to be quiet if we wish to sneak past," Makina said. "Sneasel are quite the catch, though. Are you interested?"

"Sure, I'd love to take a Sneasel home with me," Argent replied simply. He nodded to Chimey -- a promise was a promise, and he knew that she didn't like it when he didn't keep them. He almost always did, however. It seemed, though, that Sneasel would be a bit of an odd typing for her. She couldn't really do anything to the creature with her Psychic-type attacks, but that really didn't matter for the time being. She could counter her easily with Signal Beam, and Argent always had a few tricks up his sleeve in a Pokémon battle. The small, pale-blue and pink Pokémon hovered in the air, looking at the creature that was obviously much faster than her.

"Okay, Chimey -- let's get in here with a status on Sneasel. Since she's not concentrating on us, start things off with a Thunder Wave. That'll slow her before she even knows what's coming. Afterwards, use Curse. Sneasel has pretty good attacking power, so you can filter it out a little if you raise your defence slightly."

The plan was simple -- cripple Sneasel, then boost statistics before Sneasel could get in a physical Dark-type hit on her. It did have its merits, but not getting in any immediate damage had possible consequences. Those which Argent didn't really want to think about. Thunder Wave was easily utilised by the Wind Chime Pokémon at this stage -- she'd used it on countless occasions before now. She simply spun her tail in a circle, drawing the static energy in through her surroundings -- that kind of energy came from everywhere. The electrical charge built up at the bottom of her ribbon-like tail, and formed a circle. She could fire this off at will, and it always debilitated the Pokémon immensely on contact. Argent kind of liked that about the move, although he understood that other trainers found this kind of status rather annoying when it affected their Pokémon adversely. Argent didn't often use this kind of move in a trainer battle, however -- only when he had to.

Curse was also somewhat easily used by Chimey. She could simply close her eyes for a moment, and she became gilded in a grey light that enveloped her body entirely. When she'd opened her eyes, she would be a little slower - although not much - and she had rather impressive attack and defence powers when she had finished the boost. It came in handy against Dark-types that leaned to the physical side of things -- she no longer found moves like Bite and Crunch a problem with a Curse under her belt. Also, the speed drop wouldn't make a difference if Thunder Wave hit. She'd be able to move freely anyway -- the Sneasel wouldn't be going places if she was under paralysis.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

"Sure, I'd love to take a Sneasel home with me," Argent said, looking over at the Sneasel once more before giving a small nod to the Chimecho hovering lazily beside him. In response the small Psychic type silently moved forward, trying to close the distance between herself and the Sneasel.

Makina gave a small frown at Argent's partner of choice for this battle, but held her tongue for now. Sneasel were part of the Dark-type family, an element notorious for having an almost complete immunity towards Psychic attacks in general. This would be an uphill battle for them if Argent did not play it smart.

At this point, Argent was already issuing his commands to the Chimecho, keeping his voice low as well, "Okay, Chimey -- let's get in here with a status on Sneasel. Since she's not concentrating on us, start things off with a Thunder Wave. That'll slow her before she even knows what's coming. Afterwards, use Curse. Sneasel has pretty good attacking power, so you can filter it out a little if you raise your defense slightly."

The Chimecho – that is, Chimey – began to emit a faint yellow light as she began to build up the static electricity needed to to shock her opponent. An almost inaudible crackling filled the air as the charge continued, then shifted to a sudden noise as Chimey flung the attack at her target.

Sneasel, jumping from the sudden sound, turned around just in time to see a bolt of electricity heading straight towards her face. While the shock was only intended to paralyze, the Sharp Claw Pokemon was knocked back a step out of surprise. Fixing a furious glare on her opponent, the Sneasel opened her mouth and let out an earsplitting screech, the noise affecting both Pokemon and Trainer alike.

Chimey's white form shuddered and closed her eyes in pain, but held her ground admirably. Even though the Chimecho was likely shaken from such a sound barrage, she continued on into her second attack, muttering something under her breath. While the words were unheard and therefore lost, it was clear this mantra was having some effect; an aura of strength and durability appeared to surround Chimey, but seemed to move about a little slower as well. That was the downside of Curse: while the user is given more power, their speed is lowered by the same amount.

Despite feeling heavy-limbed due to Thunder Wave, Sneasel was not going to let her enemy just sit around all day and put up defenses. As Chimey was finishing up her technique, Sneasel ran forward, holding out one of her claws in an attempt to run by and swipe the Chimecho. At the same time Chimey's eyes opened, the Dark type's attack struck home, her claw glowing with a sinister shadowy aura and leaving a visible mark on the Chimecho's tail.

“You definitely got her attention,” Makina remarked. “Close range is probably not the best option for this fight though, paralysis or not.”

Chimey, as expected, hovered in front of Argent for a moment. She twirled her ribbonlike tail through the air, and the charge that she brought in from her surroundings began to build in that all-too-familiar ring. The energy crackled, but it was barely able to be heard. The Sneasel was as of yet unperturbed, and Argent was hopeful that it would stay that way -- at least so long as it took to get the Thunder Wave to connect with the Pokémon. Argent was desperately hoping that the surprise tactics would work, but if something went wrong, then he'd have to switch out for one of his other Pokémon. He didn't really want to do that, but he supposed that he'd have to if the situation really did call for it. However, he knew that Chimey could easily pull through this. He wished that she had a Fighting-type Hidden Power instead of her current one -- that would prove extremely useful against this Sneasel, as well as other Dark-types. Alas, she didn't, but that didn't concern him for the time being. All that mattered was their plan. The ring built up to optimum capability, but it started making a much louder noise -- that would have got the Sneasel's attention. She turned around sharply, but Chimey had already fired off the ring of static electricity. It smashed into Sneasel, who was too late to do anything, and the tendrils of electricity coursed through her body, but not for good effect.

The Dark- and Ice-type was also knocked back a pace out of surprise, and possibly the force of the move. She gave a sharp glare towards Chimey, although there was some kind of hesitancy behind it -- perhaps the paralysis was setting in very quickly indeed. She opened her mouth wide, and loud, blood-curdling sound was emitted from it. An ear-splitting screech pierced the air, and Chimey was obviously shaken by it. Argent quickly clasped his hands to his ears before he could hear much of the scream, but removed his hands after he saw the sound had stopped. Chimey's dainty-seeming form shuddered slightly, but she resolutely closed her eyes. She began to murmur under her breath, but whatever she was saying in her Pokémon language was lost to anyone, but Argent could see the effects it was having -- a grey aura enveloped her body, giving her newfound strength to handle attacks. However, Argent realised that Sneasel had used Screech -- a move which lowered defence sharply. Unfortunately for Chimey, that meant that her defence would still be lower than usual. She'd be even more susceptible to the Dark-type or Ghost-type moves that Sneasel would throw at her, merely because of that loud sound. Argent gave a low whistle, but waited for the move to be finished.

After the grey energy dissipated, the Sneasel heavily moved over to Chimey, evidently not going to let the Wind Chime boost her defences all day. Although the Sneasel was feeling a bit low due to the paralysis, she struck just as Chimey was finishing her Curse move. She ran, a claw held aloft. It was glowing with deep purple energy, clouding it like something sinister. Chimey opened her eyes, but the Sneasel had struck. Slashing her across the tail, the Shadow Claw attack left a mark where it had impacted on the poor Pokémon. Argent sighed as Chimey floated back a little.

"You definitely got her attention," Makina said, as if that needed saying or anything. Argent glanced over to her politely, wanting to hear what she had to say -- as long as it wasn't the obvious. "Close range is probably not the best option for this fight though, paralysis or not."

Well, this sucks, Chimey said, and Argent turned his attention back to her.

Not true. You've still got a high attack from your Curse, and Sneasel doesn't have the best defences. You could try a Double-Edge, but that's going to damage you as well. We'll try a special attack. Argent was still holding the torch aloft, casting much light upon the battlefield, as well as maintaining the heat.

"Okay, let's try this: first, create an Energy Ball, but keep it there. Wrap your Hidden Power around it to make a sort of combination, then use your tail to bat it at the Sneasel. It should deal some decent damage," Argent said out loud. Chimey could create a small, globular sphere of Grass-type energy, and she was able to hold it there for so long as she concentrated. Hidden Power - currently Bug-type - could hit the Sneasel super-effectively, but it would be masked under the Energy Ball, which only hit the Dark-type neutrally. Of course, Hidden Power wasn't as powerful as Signal Beam, but unleashing her most powerful attack would wear out his tricks a bit earlier than he'd have liked to. Her only major task here was to be able to concentrate on handling the two attacks at once -- which was really a walk in the park for her. Her decent special attacking power would see them through this, even if she wouldn't be able to use the powerful Psychic-type attacks at her disposal.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Argent was silent, his only reaction being to glace over at Chimey. While it was difficult to tell from just observing the two, Makina was willing to bet that they were communicating via telepathy. It was hardly rare; most trainers who owned a Psychic type would do this at least once in a while. It made relaying commands a great deal easier, as well as having a lesser chance for plans to be muddled.

Finally the two nodded, as if coming to an agreement. "Okay, let's try this: first, create an Energy Ball, but keep it there. Wrap your Hidden Power around it to make a sort of combination, then use your tail to bat it at the Sneasel. It should deal some decent damage," Argent called out loud.

Interesting, Makina mused, taking a moment to skim over her PDA upon hearing Argent's commands. She had yet to look over the total moves Chimey had in her arsenal, but it was clear that the Chimecho had at least one added move. She scrolled down to the notation placed by Hidden Power, and finally realized why the Trainer had sent this one particular Pokemon out. Perhaps it was not such a terrible idea after all.

A sphere of energy began to materialize near the Chimecho's tail, glowing a deep jade green in the torchlight and growing faster by the moment. While charging, a small glimpse of a lighter green, this one closer to a lime color, could be seen in the center, but was quickly swallowed up by the rest of the sphere. Once the move was of an adequate size, Chimy struck her tail upon the creation, sending it flying straight at the Sneasel.

Sneasel, seeing the move coming straight at her, attempted to dodge. Unfortunately for her, Thunder Wave had slowed her reflexes a great deal, leaving her normally nimble form quite slow. Seeing that she would be unable to escape, the Dark-type opted for a counterattack instead. She let out another cry, this one sounding more commanding than the last, and a breezing gale appeared to wrap its way around the Pokemon. Small chunks of ice could be seen in the breeze, and it was this that the Sneasel threw towards the Chimecho. As she released this attack, Chimey's own move had struck home, causing the Sneasel to howl in pain.

The wind hit Chimey, causing her to shudder once again, this time with cold. Icy rimes began to coat her tail as well as a small amount on the Chimecho's head. While the damage appeared to be minor, the frost coating her body would slow her down even more.

While Sneasel appeared to be surprised by the unexpected added pain Chimey's attack had caused, it was also the first damaging move of the fight, and so was ready for more. She readied herself into a fighting posture, as if preparing another attack- and suddenly froze. Judging from the frustrated look that began to form on the Pokemon's face, it was safe to say that the paralysis had stiffened her limbs at this moment. Now would be the perfect time for Argent and Chimey to act.

As Chimey once more began to float in front of Argent, she seemed quite confident that not a lot would be hurting her at this stage -- sure, the Pokémon was a Dark-type, but she was able to overcome things like that. She herself didn't really feel confident in herself. She saw it more as a cheerful optimism that she adopted -- although Argent would have said otherwise if he had been listening into her thoughts. She had to admit that, underneath it all, she was often very sarcastic towards him, but she knew that he didn't mind it when she poked fun at him that way. Chimey watched the girl who had been replacing Elisa as their ranger -- she seemed a little surprised at Argent's tactics, and quickly consulted some device. Chimey picked up a few thoughts from Makina, although she only skipped along her mind lightly -- she was checking Chimey's moves. Satisfied with what she was doing, Chimey quickly began to swivel her tail ever so slightly, and sure enough, a sphere of green energy began to form near her tail. She swivelled her tail a little faster, and the energy was built up in proportion. While she was doing that, however, she was trying to regulate it, keep it in place -- the energy was very hard to keep still, even for an experienced Pokémon, although she knew that Grass-types generally had no bother with it. It was probably because they were more in tune with that type than she was -- pretty obviously, really.

While Energy Ball was charging, Chimey strictly held it in place with her own powers, and some smaller blobs of power exuded from her ribbon-like tail. They were quite green, but a definitely lighter shade than the Energy Ball which Chimey had just generated. However, these orbs were taken in by the Grass-type sphere that had already been building up, although Chimey knew that this by no means detracted from its true power. In fact, she thought that this strategy was rather clever -- masked underneath something that only dealt neutral damage to the Sneasel was, in fact, something that would deal quite a lot of damage. She let the attack build to a suitable size, and, when it was ready, she decided that she'd fire it off in the manner that Argent suggested -- batting it with her tail. This was also another, while small detail, quite clever thing for him to do. By hitting it with her tail - especially with her added attack statistic - she'd force it quite heavily towards the Sneasel, perhaps even dealing a little more damage because of the impact. She smiled slightly, and then twirled through the air, her tail slapping into the ball quite hard.

The Sneasel attempted to dash or something, but her reflexes had been deteriorated due to the paralysis, and Argent could see that she was going to have trouble failing to escape. Seemingly, she realised this as well, and she decided to opt for an attack as well instead of trying to escape. That meant that Chimey's creation was guaranteed to hit right now -- her accuracy was always one of her good traits, amongst many others. However, the counter-attack that Sneasel chose proved to be quite mean, and Argent covered his ears as Sneasel let out another cry, but this wasn't meant to be deteriorating -- at least, not quite. A terrible, icy breeze sprung up from nothing, and the Sneasel forced her arms forwards, the breeze obeying her gestured directions, and small chunks of ice being picked up on the breeze. It smashed into Chimey cruelly, and she shuddered uncomfortably. Her tail frosted a little bit with ice, and Argent could see that her head had been tinged a little bit with the frost, too. However, the 'tissue' that made up her structure was not as susceptible to the cold as a human's, so Argent was assuming for the time that she'd be okay with what had happened.

However, as the Sneasel had released her attack, she had no option but to take in Chimey's. It rammed into her hard, and she let out a howl in pain. She hadn't been expecting the extra damage caused by the Bug-type of the Hidden Power within, but it was also the first damaging move that Chimey had used yet -- and it had caused quite a bit of damage already. Sneasel took herself into another poise, almost as if she was preparing another attack, but Thunder Wave's effects had their own ideas for the long-clawed Pokémon. Her body crackled slightly, and her face contorted into a frustrated expression. It was safe to assume that the Pokémon had been fully paralysed by Thunder Wave, and Argent smirked in satisfaction. It was now time for them to cause damage, and Argent was hoping that the Sneasel would stay immobilised for most of the time that Argent needed in order to carry out his three-pronged attack next. It was inspired by a battle that had happened quite a while back. That was against a Weavile, coincidentally...

    ***

"Okay, Chimey!" Argent encouraged, flinging his arm out to one side. He'd always had a taste for the melodramatic, especially in battles. A light blue organism floated through the air, opposite a bigger opponent with jet-black fur, and - it seemed - some kind of red crown on top of its head. A Weavile -- it belonged to his challenger, Clara. They weren't in a relationship back then. He smiled slightly, and Chimey drew back a little. They'd been conversing through their psychic link -- something which Clara and her Weavile would never, and could never, accomplish.

They were battling in Dark Cave, but light was filtering in through a temporary hole made in the ceiling, shedding enough light for everyone to see. The rocks dangled precariously from every angle, although they weren't sharp enough to seriously stab anyone should they be pushed back into them -- it would only startle them for a moment or two, as well as causing that horribly blunt pain.

Chimey, firstly, use Psychic. Don't say it won't affect Weavile, because it will -- if you gather up enough psychic force, you can push the Weavile back into the wall. The impact will daze her, but only for a few moments. That's when you use Double-Edge. Smash your tail into her, and then quickly withdraw backwards. Signal Beam from there. Argent gave his partner a confident nod, something which she returned. She floated forwards, and then she waved her stubby arms through the air, gathering in an energy which Argent could not see, but could pinpoint drawing in to one point. She was gathering the energy required to force a Pokémon, who was normally immune to these kinds of attacks, back into a wall. That required effort, but she braced herself and complied. She expanded her arms, and the energy exploded in a concentrated blast, slamming into Weavile, but was filtered as it hit her. However, the force did indeed push her back into the wall, and she smacked her head. She looked at Chimey, confused.

Chimey quickly floated forwards, and somersaulted in the air as she came close enough to Weavile -- her tail glinted with a dangerous, steely edge, and she smashed it into Weavile quite hard. The attack also damaged herself a little, albeit negligibly. She swiftly drew back, and twirled through the air, the momentum giving her enough power to summon the energy needed for her final attack. Rainbow-coloured energy formed at the yellow growth upon her head, and it came out as a concentrated beam, shocking Weavile to her core -- a super-effective attack, she was unlikely to recover from that.

    Argent cheered.

    ***

"Okay, Chimey -- it's time for a threefold attack. Firstly, use your Psychic attack to force the Sneasel into a wall, and it will be dazed as well as paralysed, hopefully. You can then move to her, and Double-Edge. Your boosted attack will deal quite a bit of damage. Then, draw back. Signal Beam! Try to do it like you did it against Clara -- remember?"

    Chimey nodded.

    "Okay, then. Good luck!"

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Argent appeared to be lost in thought as Sneasel glared at Chimey, the Pokemon clearly annoyed at being unable to act for the moment. His eyes had a faraway look to them, as if the Trainer was reminiscing about an event that had happened long ago.

While Makina could understand that sometimes it took time to think of a plan of action, especially when one was at a disadvantage in types, this inaction was starting to go on far too long. Already the Sneasel was starting to regain some mobility in her limbs, and was planning her next attack in earnest. Before Makina could point out this fact, Argent's eyes had snapped back into focus once more.

“Okay, Chimey -- it's time for a threefold attack. Firstly, use your Psychic attack to force the Sneasel into a wall, and it will be dazed as well as paralysed, hopefully.” Argent appeared sure about this, as if he had called this particular attack before, “You can then move to her, and Double-Edge. Your boosted attack will deal quite a bit of damage. Then, draw back. Signal Beam! Try to do it like you did it against Clara – remember?”

A spark of recognition appeared in the Chimecho's eyes, and she nodded firmly in response.

"Okay, then. Good luck!" Argent called out.

<Interesting choice of attacks,> Aria commented, looking over at the battle with a renewed interest. Being a Psychic-type herself, the Gardevoir knew all too well about the impressive resistance Dark types to Psychic-based attacks.

He has a plan, or at least it seems that way, Makina pointed out, though she was equally just as curious. Unless one used Miracle Eye or the Pokemon put an extreme amount of power into their attacks, Psychic would most likely fail. In addition, he had commanded Double-Edge- a powerful move that also hurt the user. Such a string of attacks could leave Chimey wide open if both Pokemon and Trainer were not careful.

Chimey began to glow with a soft blue light, focusing up the energy needed for the Psychic assault. The glow transferred over to Sneasel, the light shaking as the attack was resisted due to Sneasel's natural immunity. The two Pokemon showed obvious signs of strain on their faces as the two minds battled, both refusing to back down.

Eventually, the glow surrounding Sneasel became stronger, and the creature's form was pushed back towards the wall, though with much lesser force than possible. The Sharp Claw Pokemon appeared dazed, but none too worse for wear. As if to prove the attack had not phased her much, she let out a string of phases that almost sounded insulting, even holding up a middle claw to emphasize her point.

Chimey appeared stunned by the Sneasel's response, simply floating in place as she absorbed just what was called out at her. Slowly, her shocked expression turned to annoyance then ire as it fully sunk in just what was said. She charged forward, clearly intent on using her entire body to slam Sneasel once more into the wall. Despite her light form, Chimey's anger, coupled with the strength boost she had received earlier, increased her power quite a bit. She rammed into the Sneasel, and both forms went crashing into the wall, the sound from the impact echoing throughout the tunnel. They let out twin cries of pain; Sneasel's being from hitting the rock wall, and Chimey's from the recoil.

Sneasel began to glow once more, this time with an aura as dark as midnight. She appeared to be absorbing the damage she had just endured, the glow becoming brighter as it registered her recent injuries, and the Pokemon lashed forward with her claws at Chimey, sending the tiny Pokemon back several feet and dangerously close to the opposing wall. Judging from the pained look on Chimey's face, this attack had definitely hurt.

The Chimecho, dazed, began to focus once more in preparation for her next attack. The yellow appendage on her head began to shine with a prismatic light, charging up for the upcoming Signal Beam. The light shot forth in a brilliant beam, striking the Sneasel dead-on and causing the target to screech once more and collapse.

Although clearly shaken, Sneasel still seemed to have some fight left in her as the Pokemon picked herself off of the floor. Her cheeks puffed out a moment, and she spat out a vile purple liquid towards Chimey. What Chimey did next, along with how would react to this strange maneuver, would be up to Argent.

Chimey once more took up a position, simply floating in front of Argent. She began to glow with a faint blue light, and the aura built up a little more. The Sneasel wasn't moving -- whether it was paralysis or simply awe that a Psychic-type was trying this manoeuvre, Argent had no idea. At this stage, he was hoping it would work -- if it worked on Weavile, he didn't see why it wouldn't work on a Sneasel. Chimey forcibly pressed the Psychic attack against the Sneasel, but it seemed to be filtered slightly when it came near the Sneasel, not doing a blind bit of difference to the Pokémon. However, Argent could see that there was more of an inner struggle -- two minds were battling here, and neither one wanted to back down. However, it seemed that Chimey was overpowering the Sneasel's natural immunity, and Argent gasped. The light blue glow around the Sneasel's body expanded outwards, and the Sneasel was all of a sudden launched into the back wall, although not as powerful as it potentially would have been if Chimey put in that kind of effort against some other Pokémon. Argent watched with bated breath, excited that his plans were beginning to come to a head -- Psychic had actually worked! There was a possibility that it wouldn't have, of course, but Chimey proved herself more powerful than a Dark-type. She'd be confident coming out of this battle.

The Sneasel was a little dazed, but it wasn't in one of the worst conditions. To signify how well it felt, it let out a string of syllables, and Argent could practically hear the insulting tone in them. Just like most other humans, he couldn't understand what was being said, but it really didn't sound pleasant. Argent's suspicions about the insulting nature of the 'words' were confirmed as the Sneasel placed emphasis on her last point, and then bent other claws down, holding out the middle one as infuriatingly as possible. Chimey simply floated in mid-air once more, looking bedazzled at the Sneasel, almost as if she couldn't believe what had been said. Her expression became frustrated, and turned to sheer anger as she realised the full implications of what the Sneasel had flung at her. Argent, through his link with the Psychic-type, could almost feel the heat of her anger burning at the Sneasel. She zoomed forwards in determination, heading straight towards the Sneasel, who still stood at the wall -- not perhaps as well as she was trying to let on.

Chimey's anger was coupled with her strength boost, and together they launched a devastating attack upon the Sneasel. Her seemingly dainty frame somersaulted through the air, her tail glowing in a steely way. She smashed it onto the Sneasel's head, and cries of pain rang through the air -- Sneasel, from the attack's impact and her impact onto the wall; and Chimey, who was damaged by the recoil that Double-Edge caused. However, she wasn't finished yet. However, neither was the Sneasel. Her features became shrouded in midnight-black energy, surrounding her utterly. For a few moments, she didn't move. However, she sprung from the energy, her claws slashing into Chimey and forcing her backwards, into close proximity with the wall opposite to the one that the Sneasel had been forced into. Chimey's expression became pained, and she looked down at herself -- that attack had definitely hurt her. She hadn't given up, though -- not by a long shot. The Sneasel was far more damaged than she was, and Chimey was determined to keep it that way.

The yellow growth on Chimey's head glowed brightly, rainbow-coloured energy forming at it. She smirked slightly, still angry at the Sneasel -- she relished the chance to lash back at her, which was rather uncharacteristic. She was usually quite amiable towards her opponents, although she could come across as forcibly determined, but she never tried to intentionally harm -- under Taunt, she was susceptible to a whole lot more, as her judgement would have been clouded. A brilliant beam of prism-like light was launched into the Sneasel, the impact of it once more causing the Pokémon to emit a loud scream. She fell to the floor. For one moment, Argent thought that Chimey had accidentally knocked out the dark-coloured creature, but the Sneasel was not so easily beaten, apparently. She dragged herself from the floor, and Argent sighed in relief -- all that effort for nothing would not have been welcome. The clawed Pokémon's cheeks swelled up, something gurgling in her throat. She opened wide, and a violet-coloured blob shot out. Whatever it was, it would have to be dealt with before Chimey was hit.

"Psychic, Chimey! Deflect it back at the Sneasel! Then use another Signal Beam!" Argent called out enthusiastically, really getting into the swing of this. He opened his satchel hastily, drawing out a Super Ball. Once Chimey had finished, he fully intended on throwing the capture device.

Argent, seeing the incoming attack, reacted instantly. "Psychic, Chimey! Deflect it back at the Sneasel! Then use another Signal Beam!" he called out to Chimey, sounding somewhat more cheery than before. Since Sneasel was getting pretty worn down, it was possible he was looking forward to the upcoming capture.

Chimey, despite looking a little worn out herself due to the battle of minds that she had endured earlier, eagerly answered her Trainer's commands. The Chimecho shot a wave of psychic energy towards the blob, and the two attacks collided with one another. While the Psychic appeared to be much weaker then usual, it still managed to get half the job done; the blob fell harmlessly to the ground, then disintegrated.

If Sneasel was surprised to see her attack fail, she gave no sign. Instead, large chunks of ice began to rapidly materialize in the air surrounding her, and with a single throwing gesture with one of claws they launched towards Chimey.

The suddenness of the move left the Chimecho helpless to react, so she focused on readying Signal Beam instead. As soon as the icy shards struck her form, the Wind Chime Pokemon had released another prismatic beam towards Sneasel, making the wild Pokemon collapse once more.

At this point, Argent had fished out a Superball and was looking at Sneasel, looking for the right time to throw. As the light from Chimey's attack faded, he lobbed the ball towards the weakened Sneasel, sucking the Pokemon into the sphere. The Superball wobbled weakly for a moment, then let of a resounding ping to announce that the capture was successful.

“Congratulations, that was definitely an interesting battle,” Makina said, retrieving the Ball and placing it into a side pocket in her pack. Before she could say any more, her PDA beeped as more info was sent to her device. She pulled the device from her pocket, going over the details with a slight frown on her face.

Giving the data one final read-over, she relayed the info to Argent, “That was from the front gate. Apparently Elisa has just checked out, and left two Balls with the secretary at the front desk, saying that they were your current catches so far. While this Sneasel leaves you at your catch limit, we can also continue on and you can swap one of the three with something else. What would you like to do?”

Chimey did look a little bit tired from all of her previous efforts, but she was clearly determined to pull through in this battle. She flung her stubby arms around her, and she shot a wave of that same light-blue, psychic energy towards the purple blob that was heading her way. They collided together, and it seemed that the force dissipated both of the attacks at the same time. She looked slightly pleased with herself, but the Sneasel seemed a little more antagonised than anything at another one of her attacks failing. She decided that she'd still move on, despite being very weak, seemingly. She raised her arms into the air, and various shards of ice formed as she did so. With a singular flinging motion of one of her claws, the shards were launched in Chimey's direction. Chimey was either too tired, or the attack was too fast, for her to do anything to countermeasure this Ice Shard move. So, instead, she focused on charging her final Signal Beam.

As the shards of ice impacted upon Chimey, she released her rainbow-coloured, Bug-typed beam, and it blasted into the Sneasel, causing her to collapse... again. She seemed to collapse a lot. As the residual effects of Chimey's attack faded, Argent saw his window of opportunity -- the Sneasel was, after all, just lying there. It was time to act. The Super Ball he had fished out would do the job, and he lobbed it towards the Sneasel, although he generally did not have a good aim. However, the Ball struck true, and it tapped the Pokémon lightly on the head, bouncing into the air and opening as the capture device was activated. The ball fell to the ground from there, and gave a feeble wobble. A ping resounded through the air. Finally. The Sneasel was his.

"Congratulations, that was definitely an interesting battle," Makina said encouragingly. She retrieved the sphere from where it had fallen, and her PDA beeped -- Argent presumed that she had received more information. Those contraptions looked fairly useful. He'd have to look them up and see if he could invest in one -- it'd come into good use on future runs. Makina brought out the device, and looked down upon it, a frown forming upon her face. Argent wondered what was wrong. "That was from the front gate. Apparently Elisa has just checked out, and left two Balls with the secretary at the front desk, saying that they were your current catches so far. While this Sneasel leaves you at your catch limit, we can also continue on and you can swap one of the three with something else. What would you like to do?"

"I think I'll leave this run for the time being. A lot's happened that I'd like to think about, and it's been a very long run -- my Pokémon and I are exhausted. I'm pleased with my captures. Thanks for taking over for Elisa. Much appreciated. So... err..."

    OOC: THANK YOU, HOSMAKINAI.
