“He wants to make his run as fast as possible, which means no scary-looking Pokemon spooking potential captures and chasing them away. Runs can already take a while to complete without waiting an hour for an encounter to occur.” The group of Pokemon I was addressing all nodded in understanding, though some of them looked rather unhappy. Pit, especially, was eager to help lead another person through the Park, but the Krookodile would definitely freak out a lot of the Pokemon that lived in the area we were going today. The Botanic Gardens were full of Pokemon who’d see a giant bipedal crocodile as a dangerous predator, whether it was traveling with humans or not. I picked a few Pokemon who wouldn’t make the Miltank stampede in alarm, including some who didn’t look dangerous but would be more than capable of easily fending off any Pokemon that got too rowdy, then headed outside to wait for the young man to arrive.

[It’s nice to be getting out for a change,] came Psi’s soft but almost hypnotic voice in my mind. I liked to compare him to a vampire; deceptively smooth and lulling, but always holding an edge of smug egotism. The Espeon stretched slowly before sitting by my left leg, sniffing and flicking his ears. [Always having to stay in that stuffy PokeBall or staying here to watch those horribly overacted soap operas was driving me crazy. And no one here appreciates a good laugh, either. It’s so dull.]

“Your idea of a “good laugh” includes using your Psychic powers to make a new Ranger think we were all demons from Hell sent to devour her soul,” I said with a stern voice. Psi had a bad habit of twisting peoples’ perceptions with his mental abilities to show them illusions; one of the new Rangers from several months ago had literally seen a bunch of sulfur-spewing demons instead of Rangers and Pokemon, and apparently the Outpost had resembled some gaping chasm full of fire and brimstone. The poor woman had needed to take the next few days off to get over the shock.

[It’s not my fault she wasn’t prepared to deal with hellspawn,] Psi replied disdainfully. [A Ranger needs to know how to deal with unexpected situations, after all. What if we really HAD been overrun by demons? At any rate, the way she ran off with her arms flailing everywhere was absolutely priceless.]

“Well, considering the fact that it almost seemed she’d need some sort of PTSD therapy or something, it almost wasn’t priceless. In fact, it was very nearly quite expensive.” Psi rolled his eyes and stuck out his tongue, making a pppffffftt noise as he did so.

[You Rangers make enough money to easily afford mental therapy,] he replied in a merry tone. I shook my head and sighed.

“Please don’t embarrass me in front of our Trainer and make me regret bringing you along, rather than making you stay here and watch As The PokeBall Turns…”

    OOC: It's okay. XD

"Oh man, finally arrived!" I exclaimed as I set foot at the doorsteps of the ranger office. I opened the door and the room was relatively small and empty, except for the reception desk and a clerk behind it. She looked rather petite and had the usual face of a receptionist. She raised her eyes and looked at me, probably to wonder who was the one who had opened the door.

It was a little awkward but I managed to address myself and the reason as to why I was here. "Oh, your ranger has already reached, you can just proceed forward to that outpost."

With a nod, I thanked her for her help and proceeded out of the door. The National Park was definitely not as busy as the previous time I was here, which was about a year ago. There had been lesser and lesser visitors and participants recently. Maybe there would be more Pokemon and better choices for me to capture perhaps.

Hiking through the trails paved out of gravel, I soon reached the outpost I was supposed to. There were no receptionists here this time, so I just proceeded through another door, which led me to the starting point of the Botanic Gardens. I had already been here quite a couple of times and the place was definitely starting to get repetitive and boring for me, but I had to bare with this since Castform could only be found here.

I've been wanting a Castform for quite some time already. Though they are not that proficient and skilled in battling, they are a great company to have simply because of their cutesy and it is a Normal-type Pokemon after all. Looking forward, I see a girl standing in front. She looked to be roughly a few years older than me, and next to her was a humanoid-looking Pokemon. It probably resembled a Psychic-type, but I wasn't sure from the distance between us.

Reaching into my pocket, I took out one of my own Pokeball and enlarged it before releasing the Pokemon within. A female Lopunny, a variant different from the usual species for this was a shiny Lopunny, greeted me and smiled. She was most proud and glad that she could have been of service to me once again, and I decided it would be best to traverse the Park with a Pokemon by my side so that a battle could be initiated as fast as possible.

I then readied my Pokeplayer and a disk as well. I had just purchased these items recently from the Park shop. In fact, I didn't even had to purchase them if I hadn't stupidly sold them away in the first place. Nonetheless, I moved forward to meet my ranger along with my Pokeplayer and Voice Disk in my hands - ready to play it once we've set off.

[Our Trainer has arrived,] Psi said after about ten minutes. Indeed, a young man was approaching, a Shiny Lopunny at his side. I felt a brief tingle in the back of mind and glanced down, seeing the red jewel on Psi’s forehead emitting a faint purplish glow. I frowned and nudged the Espeon with my foot, earning an irritated sort of sigh.

“Don’t even think about it, you,” I said.

[I was just going to test his reflexes, see if he can dodge a rampaging Ursaring,] the Psychic said, but the glow around his jewel faded away as he flicked his tail in an annoyed manner. I shook my head and ran a hand through my hair, blowing out a sigh.

“Please, no testing, no jokes, and for the love of Arceus, behave around this guy’s Pokemon. We don’t need a repeat of the last time you decided to play the lady’s Mon.” Psi flicked his left ear in a dismissive way, curling his tail around his legs.

    [Don’t worry, I have standards.]

“Don’t act like a jerk, either,” I said, going to meet my Trainer as he prepped a Pokeplayer, Psi snorting silently as he stood and followed after me. Once everything was ready I quickly introduced myself and Psi, then clapped my hands together.

“I know you’re eager to get things going, so let’s get to it.” I then waved to indicate we’d be heading out before taking the lead, Psi soon pulling ahead and trotting about six feet in front of us.

[This is probably going to be boring, so in order to get it over with as soon as possible, I’ll try luring out potential captures,] he told me. I rolled my eyes again; even when he was trying to be helpful, the Espeon tended to cause more trouble than it was worth. I saw a bright purple light start emanating from his head again as he started emitting psychic waves, most likely trying to influence nearby Pokemon into coming over. During this time Ataro hit the Play button on his Pokeplayer, and the sound of Castform cries filled the air for several seconds. The player then clicked and the recording ended. We didn’t get any curious visitors, so I figured we must be out of hearing range for any of the strange weather Pokemon.

“Ah, by the way,” I told the young man as we walked through knee-high emerald grass, “if you see anything out of the ordinary, like, I don’t know, rampaging demons, let me know if you would. Psi has a very odd sense of humor.” I didn’t get to give much more of an explanation, since at that moment something suddenly burst out of the grass in front of Psi. It took a moment for me to realize it was a Bulbasaur, engulfed in a bright purple haze as it blinked in surprise and looked around from its new vantage point. The Bulb Pokemon was then levitated back towards us before being unceremoniously released from Psi’s telekinetic grip.

[Have a Bulbasaur,] the Espeon called as Bulbasaur continued to blink and look rather taken aback by the sudden situation it found itself in. I resisted the urge to smack my palm against my face and instead shook my head. At this rate I was going to give myself whiplash.

“I have a feeling since you stated you wanted to get through this as quick as possible, on top of the fact that you’re using a Castform Disc, that you’re not really interested in this little guy?”

On approaching closer, I noticed that it was in fact an Espein that was accompanying my ranger. It had almost looked suspicious, constantly zoning out with its eyes as it looked at its ranger. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in fact, communicating with telekinetic powers currently. I know many rangers and trainers in the Park preferred to go on a run with a Psychic-type Pokemon as they made these kind of silent, but intellectual dialogues? Weird.

My train of thoughts and critical assumption of my ranger and her Pokemon was instantly broken by an announcement of sort from my ranger. "I know you're eager to get things going, so let's get to it," she said as she started leading me to a separate path. As we moved forward, I quickly pressed the 'Play' button on my expensive Pokeplayer. Technologies these days - they just cost bombs.

I really wanted to meet Castform quickly, for my Voice Disk only permitted five trials of crying sounds, and if I finished them without finding Castform still, I would probably have to return back here again. Something which I really did not want at all.

“Ah, by the way,” she started while turning towards me and making eye contact, “if you see anything out of the ordinary, like, I don’t know, rampaging demons, let me know if you would. Psi has a very odd sense of humor."

I couldn't help but raised my eyebrows at her. They were definitely being rather bizarre and I did not know how to respond. After a while, I managed a forced nod, so as not to appear rude to my ranger. Luckily, she did not managed to notice anything and went on to note that a Bulbasaur had appeared. True enough, there it was. Unfortunately, that was definitely a species that I did not want at all. Not only were they not what I was interested in at all, they were also easily available via the PokeMart, so it would be pretty much pointless to catch one unless you really want one.

"Nah, I'll pass," I replied. I held a Pokedoll in my right hand too, just in case the Bulbasaur wouldn't allow us to pass that easily.

OOC: Assuming you want to keep trying your Voice Disc here, what with this being a speed run, so I figured I’d go ahead and do it for you to save you a post for using it later.

Unsurprisingly, Ataro decided to pass Bulbasaur up. The dazed little reptile trundled off after a few moments, shaking its head and clearly not at all interested in picking a fight with anyone. I saw Ataro put away a PokeDoll, which he’d been holding at the ready in case Bulbasaur needed some distracting. After putting the Doll away he used his Pokeplayer again, but with the same result as before. We waited for a moment to make sure no Castform wandered over, but eventually I felt a pressing irritation against my mind.

[Can we get moving now, please?] came Psi’s voice, the Espeon glancing back at us with an impatient expression. [You said he wanted this to be fast, yet we don’t seem to be doing much of anything, especially not at a pace that could be considered quick.] I ignored the Espeon and instead shrugged at Ataro as I offered an apologetic smile.

“Sorry, but there are some caves nearby we might be able to find a Castform or two at. They generally sleep in secluded places, so there’s a chance we might find a few late risers that are still hanging around.” I then headed off, Psi giving a little huff at being paid no attention as he quickly took the lead once more. At least he wasn’t drawing anymore Pokemon to us, having heard we were heading to the caves and thankfully not slowing us down by levitating the nearest wild specimen he could lift. I chuckled a bit; Psi was impatient when he didn’t get to play pranks on people, easily getting bored. Since I’d made it quite clear that none of his jokes would be tolerated, he’d be anxious to get this run over with so he could return to the Outpost and torment the administration.

We walked for about fifteen minutes, heading in the direction of the caves that loomed in the near distance. The system wasn’t large by any means, maybe half a mile altogether, so it wouldn’t take long to traverse and see if any Castform were about. The fact that we made it so far without being interrupted by any other Pokemon made me wonder if Psi was actively warding away weaker ones with his Psychic powers, rather than drawing them to us as he’d done with the Bulbasaur.

The caves were about twenty feet away when a rustling caught my attention. I drew to a halt and glanced at the trembling grass, from which a Cinccino abruptly emerged a moment later. The bipedal chinchilla blinked at us with chocolate eyes, its silky tails curled around its body. I sensed more than heard Psi tsk in annoyance at the Pokemon’s appearance, which confirmed that he had indeed been repelling wild Pokemon all this time. Apparently, Cinccino here had a stronger mental fortitude than most of the other Wild Pokemon in the immediate area.

“Well, since it’s here, do you wanna try for it or just keep moving?”

    OOC: Thanks!

Luckily, the Bulbsaur was as uninterested in me as I was in it. It trotted away lazily and my ranger continued to bring me around the Park. "Sorry, but there are some caves nearby we might be able to find a Castform or two at. They generally sleep in secluded places, so there’s a chance we might find a few late risers that are still hanging around."

I nodded my head to acknowledge what she had said. There wasn't much I could have said, and I was definitely not those people that would do small talk easily. True enough, she had led me onto some uneven gravel trail that would supposedly lead to a cave opening sooner or later. We had probably walked for about thirty minutes or so but I wand to completely sure. It did felt that long to me, since it was pretty boring just walking around and not being able to meet Castform yet.

I could then barely see till the opening of a cave far forward, but I wasn't too excited or anything. From what I know, Castform are weather Pokemon that tend to stay around the grasslands and so might linger around tall grasses and bushes, and a cave just seemed highly unlikely for a Castform to appear. That's not saying it's not possible however.

Suddenly, the area of grass beside us started to tremble and a Cinccino promptly jumped out from there. These chinchilla Pokemon were definitely the epitome of cuteness but I have already had one of those since quite some time. "Well, since it’s here, do you wanna try for it or just keep moving?"

The answer was quick and definite. "Nah, I will pass this as well. Already got one..." I stated. Times like these in the run do happen often, and it is incredibly boring and repetitive but this is the only way to have a chance to meet a specific Pokemon that you're looking to capture. I passed on a Pokedoll to Lopunny to make her hold it as her hold item, so that she could throw it anytime a wild Pokemon decides to be hostile and attack us. It was definitely better than me taking it out and putting it back into my bag everytime I meet another Pokemon encounter. I also prepared to press the 'Play' button on my Pokeplayer again. I could not help but frown as I noticed that there were only three attempts remaining.

Ataro opted against battling Cinccino, saying he already had one and didn’t really need another. I tried to lead us around the chinchilla but it moved to block our path; it didn’t seem overly aggressive or mad, so I didn’t know why it prevented us from moving on. Thankfully, Ataro had given a PokeDoll to Lopunny, who now tossed the toy into the grass after holding it up and shaking it to get Cinccino’s attention. Intrigued, Cinccino leapt into the grass after the Doll, leaving us free to continue on as Ataro tried his Pokeplayer for a third time. Unfortunately, it had the same results as last time. I smiled a bit and the lot of us continued on towards the caves that were growing ever closer.

However, we didn’t get very far this time before being stopped. A large herd of Miltank were standing off to the side of the path about twenty feet ahead of us. Some of them were lying down, others idly grazing. There were also two large Tauros patrolling around the group of pink bovines, their sharp horns ready to gore any threat that came too close. One of them, the smaller of the two, noticed us as we approached and let out a loud bray. The other Tauros glanced over at us before promptly turning away, not at all concerned with two little humans, a bipedal rabbit, and a purple feline. A few of the Miltank also looked over but none appeared overly fussed with our presence. The smaller Tauros, though, was clearly determined that we posed a threat and started to approach with a stiff-legged walk, his three tails whipping against his back in a show of aggression.

“Someone apparently doesn’t like us being here,” I said, watching as the larger Tauros looked back over. He then tossed his head and moved on, looking irritated with the smaller bull’s action but not caring enough to interfere.

Like what I suspected, the Cinccino stood in our way and blocked our path. It was not going to let us pass though easily without a battle. Thankfully, I had already instructed Lopunny to throw her Pokedoll in these type of situations and she quickly flung her held item out, to which Cinccino got easily distracted and chased after the flung item. I passed Lopunny another Pokedoll, trusting her to use the same method for other encounters as well.

We didn't get any much farther before we were stopped by a Tauros. This Tauros was supposedly guarding a herd of Miltank together with another Tauros. The Tauros along with all of the Miltank had simply looked up at us and back down to continue whatever it was that they were doing. Meanwhile, the Tauros that had blocked our path did not think the same way as the others.

“Someone apparently doesn’t like us being here,” my ranger noted. True enough, it seemed annoyed at our presence and started to whip it's tail. Both species - Miltank and Tauros - did not really catch my eye considering I had already had these two species quite long ago. I knew that by whipping its tail, it usually meant that the Tauros was not going to let us off until it is unable to chase after us, which meant that it would have to be defeated. I still wanted to try to save a Pokedoll though.

"Let's try to walk pass it. If it comes after us still, I will have Lopunny distract it with another Pokedoll."

I nodded and glanced at Psi, who was sitting a few feet off to the side watching the whole spectacle. Even though he was impatient, rude, and a troublemaker in general, the Espeon was also very protective towards those he considered his friends. I knew if Tauros decided to back his threats with an actual attack, Psi would be quick to put an end to things before they got too serious. As it was, I wanted to prevent any such situation.

“Psi, think you can get him to listen to reason and convince him we’re not a threat?”

[I’ll see if I can get him to leave us be,] the Psychic replied. There was a moment of silence and during that time, Tauros blinked before looking over at Psi. Whatever exchange passed between them didn’t seem to go in our favor, as Tauros brayed loudly and stomped at the ground as he tossed his horns, lowering his head aggressively as he faced me and Ataro once more. Psi made an irritated growling noise as he stood, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the menacing bull before us.

“I guess he didn’t want to listen?” I asked.

[The idiot is young and thinks he’ll impress the alpha by scaring off a few squishy humans,] Psi answered, clearly annoyed by Tauros’ reaction. [He won’t let us pass and if we try to go around he’ll end up attacking.] I sighed and glanced at Ataro’s Lopunny, who had since been given another Doll.

“We’re gonna need to use that, unfortunately,” I told her. The long-eared rabbit nodded before gracefully throwing the Doll she was holding. It soared passed Tauros, catching the bull’s attention. Giving us a fierce glare, the Pokemon then turned and stalked to where the PokeDoll had landed. He nosed it for a moment, then nudged it with a hoof. I motioned for us to get moving while he was distracted, unable to hold back a smile when I saw the older Tauros staring at his younger counterpart with a confused expression. The bigger Pokemon then looked over at us as we pressed on, then shrugged and went back to watching for actual threats to his herd.

About ten minutes later we reached the caves themselves, and at this point Ataro hit the Play button on his Pokeplayer once more. The sound of a Castform crying out filled the air for a fourth time, but there was still no response from the Pokemon in question. We lingered outside for several minutes to see if any Castform might be hanging out near the cave mouth, but it proved to be in vain. I was getting ready to lead us in for the last attempt at using the Pokeplayer when Psi suddenly started speaking.

[And if you turn around, you’ll see a Pokemon that appears to be wearing shoes preferred by women who enjoy standing on corners at night.] I frowned at the Espeon, then shook my head and turned to see that, indeed, an elegant Pokemon was standing about ten feet behind us. I nudged Ataro’s arm to get his attention as I said, “Well, we haven’t found a Castform yet, but we seem to have attracted Virizion’s attention. Maybe she heard the disc and came to investigate?”

"Psi, think you can get him to listen to reason and convince him we're not a threat?"

My ranger popped a question. Now, if anyone was walking past here, they would definitely think that I am the 'Psi' and my ranger is somehow talking to me. Though, I knew that she was talking to her Espeon. Psychic-type Pokemon and their trainers... A moment of silence took over and the two Pokemon exchanged gaze, before the Tauros roared aloud and stomped at the ground. The wild Pokemon then lowered his head and faced us, seemingly ready to charge at us any time. My ranger's Espeon made an annoyed growl, as her trainer figured that the Tauros did not want to listen to us.

With a sigh, she looked at Lopunny and said, "We're gonna need to use that, unfortunately." Lopunny nodded and threw the doll forward. It easily flew past Tauros and distracted it immediately. The Tauros glared at us, before turning around and finding the PokeDoll that Lopunny had threw. The Tauros proceeded with a series of pokes and nudges on the PokeDoll, and I couldn't help but smile at the innocent actions of the young one. It was exercising caution, but yet curious at the same time.

After a while, we had finally reached the caves, and the sound of Castform's bizarre cry filled the surroundings for a fourth time once again. It did not look good however, for there were still Castform nearby that had heard the cry and popped out of wherever they were hiding at.

Suddenly, my ranger had nudged my arm and remarked, "Well, we haven't found a Castform yet, but we seem to have attracted Virizion's attention. Maybe she heard the disc and came to investigate?"

I marveled in awe at the legendary Pokemon's appearance. This was my first time seeing a Virizion and the antelope-like Pokemon was definitely worth its praise. It stood tall and mighty, and was ever so majestic. In fact, this was the sole reason as to why I had bought my digital camera. By capturing the photographs of extraordinary Pokemon in the Park, you actually get to sell them to collectors, whom will actually pay you for them! I quickly whipped out my camera and snapped a shot of the Virizon.

Ataro was quick to grab his camera and take a picture of Virizion as the regal Pokemon studied us impassively. She blinked when the camera’s flash went off, then flicked her tail and abruptly broke into a gallop. She charged straight for us, leaping clean over our heads when she reached us and bounding away once she landed, never once looking back. I smiled at her display while Psi grumbled about her being a “showy trumpet”, glancing at Ataro once the Legend had vanished.

“Well, if nothing else, you got a nice picture you can get some money off,” I told him. We then headed into the caves, which Psi illuminated with a sphere of white psychic energy held above our heads. There were large stones scattered about, making the light necessary to avoid stepping on an unstable rock and risking a nasty fall.

We walked several yards in before Ataro used his Pokeplayer for the last time. The cries echoed strangely in the cave, bouncing off the stone walls and traveling farther than they would have outside. We then lounged around for a few moments to see if any Castform would come see what the commotion was about, but sadly, there were none forthcoming. I was getting ready to comment when I heard the sound of something approaching from one of the nearby paths. Psi heard it as well and directed his sphere of light towards the direction the footsteps were coming; much to my surprise, a Snorlax was lumbering towards us. It was currently yawning, as if it had just woken up, and most likely it was heading out to hunt for food.

“Wow, never saw a Snorlax in these caves before. I wonder what draw this one here…at any rate, I don’t suppose you’re interested in it?”

The Virizon studied us cautiously and blinked as my camera's flash went off, before taking off into the sky beautifully. "Well, if nothing else, you got a nice picture you can get some money off," my ranger told me. That is true, and I was really glad that I had invested in the camera.

We finally headed into the caves, in which Espeon responded with a ball of white energy above our heads that lighted up the cave. I could not tell whether the technique that was used was Flash or simply another variant of a Psychic-type move. It sure did the job though. I took careful steps on the uneven path, and tried to avoid stepping on the unstable gravels - it sure was much easier to walk on pavements.

Once we had walked quite a distance, I pressed the button on my Pokeplayer for the last time since a Voice Disk had only allowed five attempts. This time, the cry resounded loudly and bounced off the surfaces of the cave to travel further. I was not really holding any high expectations, and just like what I had expected, there were still no sign of a small white Pokemon floating towards us.

Suddenly, an unidentifiable sound seemed to have approach from one of the nearby paths and my heart skipped a beat as I started to think if my Voice Disk had worked after all. The Espeon then quickly directed his light towards the directions of the footsteps, to which I sighed with disappointment. It was definitely not any small Pokemon, but rather a huge one. The Snorlax walked lazily towards us while yawning, and I couldn't help but marvel in awe again. This time though, it was more about Snorlax's adorable looks and actions.

I would have probably attempted to catch this one, but like what had happened earlier with most of the encounters ... I too had already possessed this Pokemon. "Wow, never saw a Snorlax in these caves before. I wonder what draw this one here…at any rate, I don't suppose you're interested in it?" My ranger remarked as she seemed to be fascinated with our most recent Pokemon encounter.

To my knowledge, Snorlax had belonged to the 'Special' category of Pokemon that can be found in the Botanic Garden and it was definitely one of the eligible Pokemon that allows you to trade their pictures for monetary gains. "Nope. I have one of those as well," I replied, not sure if I was starting to sound repetitive or not. "I want a picture of Snorlax too, however. Lopunny, go take a pose together with Snorlax!"

I quickly whipped out my camera as I suggested that, and counted down from three, before pressing down on the button to take a snapshot. Lopunny posted elegantly, strutting her right arm on her hip, while resting her left arm on Snorlax's belly.

I can’t say I was surprised when Ataro passed up the Snorlax; even if he hadn’t owned one already, there weren’t many people willing to tangle with something as bulky as a Snorlax. Not only could they absorb a great deal of damage with ease, they were also quite capable of dishing out a fair amount as well, and had a massive pool of moves they could learn. Only the most confident, or perhaps cockiest, of Trainers would bother trying to capture a Snorlax. However, they were rare enough to warrant another picture getting taken, which Ataro was quick to take care of after telling Lopunny to pose with the large Pokemon. She walked over to the bigger creature, which paused long enough to yawn again as Lopunny placed her arm on its expansive stomach. Ataro took the picture, and the bright flash caused Snorlax to cock its head, ears twitching as it regarded the humans before it. After a moment it simply shrugged and gently nudged Lopunny out of its way before heading off. I watched it go before facing Ataro.

“Well, unfortunately none of your Disc attempts worked. Do you want to continue your run and see if there might be something else you want, or would you like to go ahead and leave now?”

As the flash of my camera went off, the Snorlax cocked its head forward, as if to say that it has finally took notice of us. It stated at us and didn't look exactly happy, but gently nudged Lopunny away still, and headed away in another direction. I started to think about how the Park should actually sell cameras without flash...

“Well, unfortunately none of your Disc attempts worked. Do you want to continue your run and see if there might be something else you want, or would you like to go ahead and leave now?” my ranger asked.

I thought about it for a while. Times like these, the run pretty much gets boring. This is because the Voice Disk has exhausted all of its attempt and there isn't much Pokemon that I want other than Castform. Still, I figured I could stay here a while more, to see if any interesting Pokemon might appear within the next few encounters.

"I think I will stay for a few more encounters to see if there's anything else worth catching," I replied. Some of these rare Pokemon - like Munchlax - are exactly worth catching because there would definitely be other trainers who would want them. That allows for possible trades for other Pokemon then. In fact, I would have caught Snorlax but it was an evolved form and it makes the capture unnecessarily hard. Most trainers usually preferred their Pokemon unevolved, since they prefer to evolve it themselves or have it unevolved too.

I nodded and glanced at Psi, who was staring at us with an impatient expression.

“All right, let’s head back outside and see what we can find.”

[If it’ll get us done here faster then let’s get going,] the Espeon replied, flicking his tail and leading the way back out of the caves. Once we were back outside he let the sphere of light dissipate, since there was no need to hold on to it out in the sunlight. A stiff breeze blew as we exited the cave, bringing with it the scent of impending rain. Psi grumbled and peered up at the sky, his eyes narrowing at the thick gray clouds. [It had better no start raining until we’re finished with this.]

“Ah, come on, a little rain won’t kill ya,” I told the Pokemon, earning a glare from him as I waved absently. “The longer you hang around here complaining about it, the better the chance that we’ll get caught in the storm once it hits. We’ve probably got a bit of time, judging from those clouds, but do you really wanna tempt Fate? Of course, you could always just stay in your PokeBall so you won’t risk getting wet.”

[Let’s just keep moving already,] Psi rpelied irritably, stalking off towards the long grass that started growing a few yards away from the caves. I chuckled and followed after him, waving for Ataro to come along. When I looked ahead again I saw that familiar glow radiating from Psi’s head again; he was most likely trying to draw Pokemon to us again, clearly eager to help get the run ended as quickly as possible. Whether it was his influence or just a coincidence, it wasn’t more than a few minutes before I noticed a patch of shifting grass. I stopped and waited a moment; within perhaps thirty seconds, a small gray Pokemon walked out of the tall grass into an area where it was shorter. The greenery still came up to the Pokemon’s chest, but we could clearly see it now. It turned out to be a Minccino, the unevolved version of the Cinccino we’d seen not too long ago. Judging by the fact that Ataro had fled from the evolved form, I didn’t know if he’d be willing to battle this little guy or not. Didn’t hurt to ask at any rate.

“I know you weren’t interested in Cinccino earlier, but what about this fella?” I inquired as the Pokemon faced us, making an adorable little squeaking noise as it did.

My ranger nodded, and decided to bring me out of the cave to see what else can we find. As we exit the cave, the sphere of light that Espeon has created earlier started to dissipate gradually as well. The weather was not as scorching hot as earlier, and there were occasional windy breezes that blew in our direction. The smell of rain was evident thanks to the breeze as well. It was hard to describe the smell exactly, but it resembled the smell of blood. Well, the very faint smell of blood. Or at least that was the closest thing that I could recall that matches the smell.

“Ah, come on, a little rain won’t kill ya,” my ranger suddenly started speaking.

Talking to her Pokemon again... I guess it's normal for them but it's kind of weird for me. Imagine people walking past us and thinking that my ranger is talking to me and I'm not answering... But in actual fact, he was having one of those telepathic conversations. I thought to myself. Suddenly, a nearby patch of tall grass started to rustle and a familiar small Pokemon jumped out of the grass.

“I know you weren’t interested in Cinccino earlier, but what about this fella?” my ranger asked me. Minccino was even more adorable than its evolved form and I knew that a close friend of mine was looking for one. It wouldn't hurt to capture it at all, especially considering as to how I haven't captured any Pokemon since entering.

"Yep, I think I will try for a capture. This is yours, Lopunny. Start this out with a preemptive strike and go for Fake Out! Target its cheeks with your ears! Once you've made contact, release the static electricity within your body and strike it with a Thunder Wave at the same time with your ears." I shouted a string of command towards my Pokemon. Usually, Pokemon tend to have trouble performing a string of command at the same time, but this was an easy feat for Lopunny, especially since it was only a two-move combination. A Sassy-nature Pokemon like Lopunny was easily capable of much more when used correctly.

Ataro surprised me by actually deciding to battle Minccino. Perhaps there was someone he knew that wanted one, or maybe there was another reason he agreed to try and catch the little chinchilla. It didn’t really matter either way, so I moved off to the side as Psi walked back over to join me. He stared at the Minccino for a moment, as if unable to believe this was what had piqued Ataro’s interest, then sighed and sat down near my right leg. His head tilted to the side when Ataro gave Lopunny her commands, his attention shifting from Minccino to the larger bipedal rabbit.

[At the very least I get to watch a nice battle…] he said, mostly to himself. I snorted a little and nudged him with my foot.

“What happened to those “standards” of yours, eh?”

[I’m allowed to appreciate grace at its base levels,] Psi argued, turning his nose up at me. I laughed and laced my fingers together behind my back, turning my attention from poking fun at Psi to following the battle. Lopunny was already performing her first order, that being Fake Out. The attack was performed with a great deal of speed, with the user rushing in and feigning a blow to cause the opponent to flinch away. In this instance, Lopunny darted forward and jerked her head up, swinging her large ears upwards as she closed the distance between herself and Minccino. Minccino, as expected, was startled by Lopunny’s sudden approach and stepped back. In the next moment, Lopunny’s fluffy ears bopped against Minccino’s cheeks, and even though it was a glancing blow, the smaller Pokemon still gave a shocked squeal from the contact. Of course, that could have also been because of Lopunny’s Thunder Wave; faint popping bursts of blue-yellow static electricity jumped from the cottony fur on Lopunny’s ears when they struck Minccino. The weak pulse of electricity wouldn’t cause very much pain, but it would occasionally interfere with Minccino’s motor skills and, at times, leave the little Pokemon completely immobile.

Minccino wasn’t going to just sit there and take a beating, though. The chinchilla reacted as soon as it recovered from Lopunny’s one-two combo, whirling around and smacking the larger Pokemon with its thick, bushy tail. Three blows came in rapid succession, each one knocking Lopunny further away from Minccino. By the time the Tail Slap had ended, Lopunny was no longer within Minccino’s range of attack. The chinchilla turned around and narrowed its eyes at its foe, obviously ready for whatever was coming next. It was nice to see such a spirited little Pokemon; a lot of the time, smaller Pokemon could be overly intimidated by those who were a lot bigger than themselves. At least we didn’t have to worry about Minccino getting spooked and trying to run off.

The battle was already starting and I could almost hear the faint dialogue between my ranger and her Pokemon, but I was concentrating hard on the battle to decipher the exact speech. Just as what I had in mind, Lopunny took off in blinding speed and struck Minccino on its cheek with Fake Out. This attack was of a priority one and often flinches its opponent once contacted, allowing the user to take advantage of the foe's temporary immobilized state.

As Minccino stood there dumbfounded by the attack that had just struck her, Lopunny wasted no time and immediately made use of the static electricity that was caught within her fluffy fur. Her powerful tails quickly zapped Minccino with a weak blast of electricity, one that wouldn't do much damage to an opponent, but the intensity of the attack was actually specialized in paralyzing the target.

The Minccino recovered fast enough however, for it made use of the close proximity that it had with Lopunny, and proceeded to slap my Pokemon with her tail. I had recognized it as a Tail Slap attack, one of Minccino's signature move. As a user of Cinccino myself, I knew that this species of Pokemon usually had either Cute Charm or Technician as their ability, but Skill Link was a possible hidden ability as well. Judging by the damage that was dealt, it was hard to tell whether if Technician was boosting the damages, but that is not very important for now.

We needed to lower Minccino's health to a minimum to assist the capture and Lopunny needed to strike her repeatedly. "Lopunny, keep up your momentum! Let's take advantage of her lowered speed by speeding up your movements even more. Use Agility to increase your speed and start pounding it repeatedly with a barrage of Fire Punch and Ice Punch," I told Lopunny, whom quickly nodded her head and proceeded to run towards Minccino at a heightened speed.

Agility had the ability to increase the user's speed, and I was making use of it to run towards Minccino at blinding speed while raising Lopunny's own speed at the same time. There will then be a dramatic difference of speed between the two Pokemon, which would allow Lopunny to get a series of punches onto Minccino. Typically, the elemental punches wouldn't do much damage since Lopunny wasn't a Fire- or Ice-type Pokemon anyway, and the attacks weren't super effective hits too. However, by using Fire Punch, the foe would actually feel tremendous heat once targeted, and Ice Punch would immediately produce coldness equivalent to freezing temperatures. The idea here was to create a series of scorching hotness and freezing coldness to maximize the damage towards the foe.

Ataro’s next plan of attack was to get Lopunny moving faster, putting a huge gap of mobility between the two combatants. Minccino, even when not fully immobilized, was still moving at a fraction of her normal speed thanks to the spasms periodically gripping her muscles. Increasing Lopunny’s speed would certainly make it that much harder for Minccino to get in any kind of counterattack, which would hopefully let Ataro’s Pokemon strike with little fear of taking retaliation. After that, Lopunny was ordered to go in with a barrage of Ice and Fire Punches; it sounded like a brutally effective combo. Rapidly alternating between extreme heat and cold would most likely be a nasty shock to Minccino’s system, compounding the effects of Lopunny’s previous Thunder Wave.

Lopunny started by crossing her slender arms over her chest and exhaling a slow breath. As she did, her posture visibly relaxed as tension in her muscles was released. With that accomplished, she was now more limber and her muscles better capable of generating and expending energy, which would greatly increase her speed. The rabbit then raised her arms and balled her paws into small fists; around the left one formed a thick cloud of sparkling mist, and around the other red-orange flames sprang to life. Her respective attacks at the ready, Lopunny darted forward with blazing speed, closing the distance between herself and her target within mere heartbeats.

Minccino tried her best to dodge Lopunny’s attacks, but her body didn’t comply with her desires. Two quick jabs, first with her right fist and then the left, forced Minccino to back away with a loud cry. Before Lopunny could move in to continue her elemental assault, Minccino’s cry abruptly grew louder and louder, until the little Pokemon was pretty much shrieking her lungs out. It seemed impossible that such a deafeningly loud sound could be coming from so small a creature, and I wasn’t even within range of her attack. Lopunny, on the other hand, was right on top of her opponent and thus received the full brunt of the punishing cacophony Minccino was making. The ice and fire around her fists petered out almost immediately as she grabbed the ends of her long ears in her paws and bundled them up, trying to use the thick fluff to help cover her ears and lessen the effect of Minccino’s screeching. It wasn’t just the sound of it that was doing damage, though; the sound waves themselves were striking Lopunny’s body, chipping away at her hit points the longer she stayed within range. Luckily, Minccino could only wail for so long before running out of breath, and within a few more seconds she abruptly fell silent as she sucked in a lungful of air.

“That Uproar was pretty intense,” I commented, aware of a slight ringing in my ears. “And it doesn’t look like she’s quite finished yet, either…”

Minccino cried and managed to back away from Lopunny after getting hit by two strikes of punches. Before Lopunny could continue though, Minccino's cry grew louder and louder. Something was going on. It was not a usual cry. I had recognized the attack as an Uproar, an attack that made use of the user's ear-piecing cry to damage the opponent. Lopunny received the full brunt of the sound-based attack as she was right on top of Minccino, and the flames and ice around her fists immediately petered out.

She quickly covered her ears with her paws and bundled them up, trying to minimize the damage from the Uproar. The Minccino got tired quickly however, partly due to the damage she has received as well. She sucked in a huge breath of air to regain her usual breathing composure, but Uproar was not a single turn attack, it would continue for a while more.

“That Uproar was pretty intense,” my ranger commented. “And it doesn’t look like she’s quite finished yet, either…”

I could tell Lopunny was rather disturbed by the Uproar that it had just received. It was relatively easy to counter it however, for all I needed was to make use of Minccino's strength and return her strength at twice the force. I could also make use of Lopunny's annoyance and make her use Frustration - a move that would increase in damage if the user was particularly frustrated. A perfect move for such situations.

"That's all right, Lopunny. Make use of Mirror Coat to deflect away the screech and send the attack at twice the force, back at Minccino! Right after you deflect it, pummel it down with Frustration! Return to her all the damage you have received!" I shouted.

Mirror Coat was a Psychic-based attack which allowed the user to actually deflect attacks back at the opponent. Especially since Minccino is locked into using Uproar at the moment, Mirror Coat would protect Lopunny and deflect it at the same time, as well as causing twice the damage it would have caused to Minccino. Lopunny then started to move closer to Minccino and a faint glow of magenta pink energy started to surround her body.
