Buzz sighed, it had been a long boring day at the office, between paperwork and everyone else being out on Park runs, he had noone to mock or tease. Since the payrise, and with a sudden boom of entrants; most likely due to summer and nicer weather around the park, all the rangers had lots of work to be doing. Even Leo had managed to get off his lazy butt and do some work.

Buzz span idly in the chair, hoping something would happen. There was a vibration from his desk he quickly pulled open the drawer revealing his mobile phone. He took a quick check at the caller id; discovering it was Madison, (the rather lovely receptionist) he rushed to press the answer button. The phone fumbled in his hands, all that could be heard was Madison's sultry voice from the carpetted floor.

    "Buzz, Buzz? Hellooo?"

Buzz grabbed the phone off the floor, "Hey, Madison, how you doing?"

"Oh hi, I'm fine thank you," she replied, "but that's irrelavent, you have been assigned a run."

"Oh, that isn't nearly as interesting, as I was hoping it was going to be."

"Well I would have phoned through the office intercom, but its almost as if someone has disconnected it," claimed Madison bluntly.

Buzz sighed; planting the phone back on the desk. He turned to his computer flicking through the files; looking for the one labelled Buzz. He eventually found his way to the correct one, it was a Great Lakes run. Buzz smiled at this, he had only been there as a trainer quite recently but he wanted to go as a ranger. At least he had his chance now, there was a note saying it was Garth's first time round the park.

Buzz quickly gathered his supplies and told River to hang around, it was always fun scaring newbies. He wandered out from his office and stood by the main desk ready for the trainer to appear.

I lazily stretched my arms as I mentally focused myself for the task ahead. Today would be the day where I entered the park for the first time. I cracked a smile at the thought that I would be entering the Great Lakes area first. This was amusing to me because I already had a fairly large sized collection of powerful water mon and I was looking to add two specific Pokemon to my team. I hoped fortune would smile upon me today.

In preparation for my park run I had rented a modest sized bungalow for me and my Pokemon. Although I had an impressive collection of Pokemon I had only chosen to bring along ten. Those ten were, Alakazam, Infernape, Toxicroak, Gyarados, Ludicolo, Tentacruel, Gliscor, Lucario, Sceptile and Swampert. For the current run I had chosen to take Ludicolo, Tentacruel, Toxicroak, and Gyarados along with me. I had chosen these guys because I knew that I would be facing a fair amount of water mon along the way and I felt these guys would be my best chance at a safe and productive run. I opened the door to my room and bounded down the stairs to the first floor calling for my Pokemon. “Okay, guys front and center.”

I walked into my kitchen to find Infernape over the stove frying some sausage with its fire moves. I looked at the red and yellow fire monkey and let out an exasperated sigh. “What are you doing? I’ve repeatedly told you not to do that without asking.” I tried to lace my voice with anger but failed.

The Pokemon smiled to reveal rows of sharp teeth. “I was hungry, and everyone else already ate.”

I shook my head and looked toward the backdoor to see Swampert come crawling in. The blue mud fish looked at me and smiled. “Gyarados and Ludicolo are already outside in their Pokeballs waiting. Toxicroak is about to get into hers.”

I reached over and grabbed a small red and white sphere off the wall and pointed it at Swampert. “Excellent.” I depressed the button on the center of the Pokeball and called Swampert into. I hooked it on to my belt and grabbed my pack that I had prepared the night before and walked out the backdoor. Sure enough on the patio table were three more Pokeballs containing the rest of my team for the trip. One of my strongest Pokemon, Alakazam was also in the back watering some flowers he had brought along.

“You’re in charge while I’m gone, and remember to not let Infernape eat all the food,” I said to the back of the brown Psychic Pokemon.

Alakazam turned to me and stroked its long yellow mustache. “Permission to attack if Infernape resists?”

I cracked a smile at one of my oldest friends. “Go right ahead, just don’t hurt her too much.”

Alakazam nodded and returned to his garden. I walked around to the front to my black truck but since it was a sunny day i decided to walk the mile to the park.

The gate at the front of the park cast an imposing shadow over everything near it, but since I had already paid the expensive fee it creaked opened and let me past. I followed the dirt road until I came to the main building. I pushed open the door and stepped from the heat of the day to the air conditioned building of the rangers. The lobby of the building was empty besides myself, a receptionist and a young man standing by the main desk. The man was trying to not stare at the receptionist but failing, causing the young lady to blush ever so slightly.

“You’re my guide?” I said to the young man.

A man wandered over, offering a hand asking Buzz if he was his guide. Buzz turned his eyes from the receptionist to the voice. "Yes, my name is Jonathan, but call me Buzz. Going to the Great Lakes, so you must be a fan of Water types?" Buzz asked, "Anything in particular you are looking for?"

Buzz waited for a response and having got one he sent out a quick mental ping for River to appear. Smiling innocently, Buzz waited for the Xatu to appear. He wasn't sure how this was going to work.

Suddenly and without warning, there was a pink flash of light. Followed by a green bird appearing on Buzz's shoulder. The psychic bird Pokémon fluttered her wings. Buzz chuckled at the surprised look on Garth's face. "Well now, if you're ready to go." Buzz nodded to River and there was another flash of pink light. The office vanised and the three were now stood before a vast span of lakes surrounded by a unending forest. In the distance the peak of Mt. Oktori could be seen at the end of the lakes.

Buzz took a deep breath of the fresh air, he smiled. New runs were always interesting, often giving new battle techniques. He looked over there was a small dock with wooden rowing boats, Buzz turned to his trainer. "Well, we can either go in the boat and get out into the middle of the lakes or we can wander round the edge of the Lakes and see what appears," Buzz said.

Just as he had finished talking there was a creature crawling out from beneath one of the boats. It was a brown beaver like Pokémon. Buzz chuckled, Bidoof were often considered very pointless Pokémon.

"Well it looks like you will have to wait to decide how to start your journey. Would you like to capture a Bidoof?"

The young man dragged his eyes from the woman and turned to me. He held out a hand and I shook it. “Yes, my name is Jonathan, but call me Buzz. Going to the Great Lakes, so you must be a fan of Water types? Anything in particular?” Buzz said to me.

“My name is Garth Crysis,” I replied. “Water types happen to be my favorite, so I’m looking to add a Horsea or something else that will contribute to my team.”

No sooner had I finished my introduction and answered his question when a green and white bird Pokemon suddenly appeared on Buzz’s shoulder. After the cobwebs had abated, caused by the pink flash, Buzz spoke to me again. “Well now, if you’re ready to go.” Another flash and were thrust into a total different environment.

We had left behind the office to be transported to a wide open range of lakes and forest. Mt Oktori towered over the range like a watchful guardian. My attention was focused on Buzz as he took a deep breath of the fresh air. I assumed he just didn’t get out much and was anxious to get started. "Well, we can either go in the boat and get out into the middle of the lakes or we can wander round the edge of the Lakes and see what appears," he said to me.

I looked over to the small wooden dock a cringed at the sight of the boat tied to it. I liked water Pokemon but hated boats. I was about to reply when a small brown, beaver-like Pokemon crawled out from underneath one of the beached boats. "Well it looks like you will have to wait to decide how to start your journey. Would you like to capture a Bidoof?"

I looked at the small Pokemon and briefly debated kicking the thing, but that was quickly squashed down by my conscience. I wasn’t the kind of person who needlessly hurt Pokemon, no matter if they were ugly. I turned to Buzz. “No thanks, I’m not really interested in catching this thing. Let’s see if we can get away from this thing, but just in case, I want you out here, Toxicroak.” I reached to the Pokeballs attached to my belt and withdrew the last one. I depressed the center of the Pokeball to increase to full size. The ball opened and a stream of red energy shot from the ball to the ground and materialized into the form of a large indigo colored frog.

"No thanks, I’m not really interested in catching this thing. Let’s see if we can get away from this thing, but just in case, I want you out here, Toxicroak.” Buzz nodded, Bidoof was a fairly common and admittedly stupid Pokémon.

Buzz flicked his hand into the air shooing the beaver Pokémon away. Its head turned and gave a curious glance at the Ranger. The simple creature took the hint and turned about face and returned to the water. "Well nothing better than a simple escape," Buzz said to Garth, "well let's get back on the road. I get bored of going in boats we can wander for a while."

He set off down the lake-side path, the clear blue waters of the lake gently washed up at the stony shore. Buzz picked up a flat stone and skimmed it along the water, watching as the grey stone bounced of the undulating surface. Suddenly it hit a small green wall that had appeared just above the surface. Soon there was a small green lillypad floating towards them carrying the stone.

A blue creature with a yellow bill, all topped by the green leaf crawled out of the water flicking the stone down towards Buzz. "Well Garth looks like you didn't have to wait long for your next Pokémon. Lotad? I hear you can usually get reasonable trades for them.

Although me and my Pokemon were ready to fight if needed; Buzz flicked his hand in a shooing motion at the small Pokemon in a go away gesture. The Pokemon cocked its head at Buzz before turning and walking away.

"Well nothing better than a simple escape," Buzz said to me, "well let's get back on the road. I get bored of going in boats we can wander for a while."

I nodded my head at this suggestion. Although most of my Pokemon were of the Water type each knew how to battle on land to their best of their abilites. I had made sure to train each to the best of my ability so that no matter what both trainer and Pokemon would be prepared for whatever came across our path. Buzz set off on a path that encircled the lake and I made to follow him. Trusting the ranger, I tuned out the environment and was thinking avidly about a few personal things when Buzz said, "Well Garth looks like you didn't have to wait long for your next Pokémon. Lotad? I hear you can usually get reasonable trades for them."

Jottled from my thoughts I turned to where the ranger was looking. Sure enough a small blue and green lilypad-like Pokemon was waddling out of the clear water. Buzz was right, in certain circles the evolved from of Lotad, Ludicolo was in high demand. The strong combination of Grass and Water allowed the Pokemon to be versatile in its move set. After all, I had acquired my own Ludicolo from the safe methods. That being said, I didn't feel like expending energy to battle the small guy when I had no real reason to.

"No thanks, Buzz. Let's try and get away from the thing, if possible."

"No thanks, Buzz. Let's try and get away from the thing, if possible." Buzz nodded happily and tried to shoo the Lotad away just as he had the Bidoof. Unfortunatly the Lotad was seemingly less willing to leave. A stream of water fired from its mouth straight into Buzz's face.

"I swear this has happened every time I go to the Lakes, honestly water Pokémon..." Buzz said to Garth with a mild grimmace as he wiped the water from his face. His T-shirt was now soaked through, but he knew it would dry in time so it wasn't the end of the world. "Well it looks like it doesn't want to leave as easily as the Bidoof. Now you have a choice, I have some Pokédolls to buy, or you can use your own. You can also battle it to try and distract it then try escaping again or try to scare it off."

Buzz then looked up just in time as the Lotad fired off another playful jet of water at his face. Nimbly stepping aside, he was tempted to release one of his own Pokémon to deal with the pesky Pokémon.

I watched Buzz try to shoo off the Pokemon, ready to step in with my Pokemon if needed. Lotad, however, had different plans. It didn’t want to leave at the moment. A comical look spread across my face when Lotad fired a a stream of aqua colored water at the Ranger’s face.

“I swear this has happened every time I got to the Lakes, honestly Water Pokemon,” Buzz said to me. “Well it looks like it doesn't want to leave as easily as the Bidoof. Now you have a choice, I have some Pokedolls yo buy, or you can use your own. You can also battle it to try and distract it then try escaping again or try to scare it off.”

The words had barely registered in my mind as the possible scenarios raced through my mind. I picked a battle strategy that I hoped would help me in this quickly. The longer this battled played out the higher chance my Pokemon had of getting wounded.

My first move would benefit both me and him, hopefully me more than him. “Okay, Flipper, let’s give this Pokemon a taste of our power. I want you to start with a Rain Dance, followed up by a Super Fang attack. The purple and red colored frog lifted its stocky head to clear skies and released a loud croak. The crimson pouch of skin attached to the neck of my Pokemon billowed out as it croaked.

Toxicroak began to move its limbs in a circular dance as the frequency of its croaks increased and grew louder. Fifteen seconds into the dance Toxicroak stopped its maneuvers and looked to the sky one last time. It brought its clawed hands together and made a pushing motion to the ground. All the while Toxicroak was performing the move, dark storm clouds bursting with moisture had been materializing over the Lakes. Like a pressure cooker that had built up over time, the clouds let go of their payload. Rain started to come down in sheet of cool water.

Toxicroak opened its mouth to reveal the sharp teeth that were hidden behind its lips. With a snarl it launched its body at the small from of Lotad, obscured in the rain.

“Okay, Flipper, let’s give this Pokemon a taste of our power. I want you to start with a Rain Dance, followed up by a Super Fang attack," Garth said to his Toxicroak. Buzz thought this was an interesting move. Ludicolo (and by extension) their pre-evolutions were a pain to deal with in the rain if they had the ability Swift Swim.

Buzz pulled his hood up, it was a necessity here at the lakes. Too many water Pokémon. Buzz watched the Toad like form of the fighting Toxicroak preparing its next attack. The Lotad meanwhile seemed to be basking in the rain. Its lilly pad atop its head collecting the water. Buzz was glad, it didn't seem like Garth wanted to catch Lotad so it not having Swift Swim was probably a bonus.

The Toxicroak leapt forward, sharp front teeth leading the charge. In a blur the Poison type was upon the small Lotad, fear seemed to freeze it in place as the Toxicroak bit it. Lotad winced in agony as the fangs delved into its body.

Suddenly there was a flash of blue light and Toxicroak was hurled back through the air. A protective shield had formed around the bleeding Lotad. Buzz was impressed it seemed the Lotad had a lot of power stored away, but the fear in its eyes betrayed it. With a sudden burst of speed the Lotad was back beneath the gently moving waters of the lake.

"It's fled, but I have a feeling it isn't the last we'll see of that Lotad," Buzz said to Garth. Toxicroak looked a little scuffed up after it landed but it seemed to be fine. Buzz set off on the path once again.

He heard a curious noise coming from the nearby bushes. It was definatly a Pokémon because there was also purple light emitting from the bush. Buzz carefully pulled apart two bushes to discover a small yellow creature. It was a duck-billed platypus like creature, with its two webbed hands raised to its head. Its eyes shone demon red.

"Erm, well its a Psyduck and it looks pissed," Buzz said to Garth slowly walking back away from the bush. "Want to try and capture it?"

OOC: You have scared off the psyduck, but the escape attempt was a fail so it will reappear later on in the run; I figured something else might take your fancy.

I watched as my friend launched itself at the form of Lotad. A purple blur stark against the falling rain. I don’t know if Lotad didn’t see my Pokemon or was frozen by fear. It didn’t move and I watched as Flipper sank its sharp fangs into the green flesh of the water type. I saw the billed face of Lotad twist into one of agony.

Inside I cringed at the site. Although I knew Pokemon battles weren’t a battle of sunshine and rainbows, it still wasn’t fun for my fully evolved Pokemon to hurt the smaller guy. But this was a Pokemon battle, it was a competitive world. Either one of us had to back down or there would a battle to determine the victor. I knew Toxicroak wouldn’t support us backing down, neither would I for that matter. This meant it was up to the Lotad.

A flash of aqua blue light caught my attention as it surrounded the Lotad and repelled her back. I stood looking at the Lotad, contained by the barrier. Two small streams of blood trailed from the puncture wounds, from where Flipper had made contact. Lotad stood there panting and looking at its foe as rain continued to fall. Flipper stared right back, a look of calm collectedness. I watched as something within the eyes of Lotad flickered, Flipper saw it also and crouched lower into a battle position. But to my surprise the dual typed Pokemon turned away and in a flash was rushing to the safety of the water. As the last of the Pokemon disappeared beneath the surface I turned to Buzz.

“It fled,” Buzz said, “but I have a feeling it isn’t the last we’ll see of that Lotad. With that he turned and started to continue down the path.

I traded a look with Flipper, shrugged and followed my ranger down the now muddy path. We hadn’t gone far when Buzz abruptly stopped and turned his attention to small bushes from which noise and purple light shined through. My interest rose when Buzz started to slowly back away from the bush.

“Erm, well its a Psyduck and it looks pissed,” Buzz said. “Want to capture it?”

I couldn’t hide the smile that spread across my mouth. Here he was telling me the thing was mad, and that I should battle.

I was tempted to use Toxicroak, but I knew the psychic tendencies of Psyduck. After a quick thought of the Pokemon with me I reached to my belt to where my Pokeballs were. I grabbed two and depressed the buttons on both. I recalled my weary frog and called for the evolved form of the Pokemon I just faced, Ludicolo. A flash of red light lit up the area as the yellow and green Pokemon appeared. The broad rimmed, hat-like thing on Ludicolo’s head coupled with the jolly and wide billed mouth gave it a comical appearance. Ludicolo were known for their jolly demeanor, but that did not mean they didn’t know how to handle themselves in battle.

“Let’s try not hurt Psyduck too much,” I called to my Pokemon. “Start with a Fake Out and follow it up with a Leech Seed attack.”

Ludicolo waved a short, broad flipper-like hand at me before turning to face its fellow water type. Besides the hat-like organic structure on its head, there sat a budding tree that resembled a pineapple. A tuff of yellow growth sprouted from the brown mini tree and from that sprang a single sienna seed that launched at the yellow form of Psyduck. A millisecond after the seed had launched, Ludicolo, aided by the rain, zoomed towards the Psychic type in an attempt to flinch the Pokemon so that the Leech Seed could hit.

Buzz saw a little smile creep across Garth's face. There was a moment of silence and no action, but then there was a swift moveement, and Garth had two Pokéballs within is hand. Two beams of red light erupted and Toxicroak was engulfed in the energy. Another creature formed from the second beam, it stood just shy of five foot, the small green lily pad that sat atop its head was like a Sombrero. The hair that covered its body looked much like a poncho, it hopped from one foot to the other happily. The rain fell caused by Toxicroak's Rain Dance still fell heavily. Buzz wiped the water from his eye waiting to see Garth's battle style.

A millisecond after the seed had launched, Ludicolo, aided by the rain, zoomed towards the Psychic type in an attempt to flinch the Pokemon so that the Leech Seed could hit.

Buzz watched as the the Ludicolo slammed itself into the yelllow Pokémon. The impact caused Psyduck to roll backwards. The small seed flew through the sky towards the Psyduck. It made efforts to get back to its it feet, but the after effects of Fake Out took hold causing Psyduck to stumble. The Leech seed planted itself upon the Psyduck's tail; small vines grew rapidly then buried themself into the Psyduck's skin. There was a shriek of agony from the small water type. Ludicolo had hopped back to were it hd been released, waiting for its next attack. Psyduck grew enraged, as the seed sapped nutrients from its body; its eyes shone purple as it threw itself into a dive at the Ludicolo. A psychic aura surrounded its body, propelling it towards its target. Buzz wondered how Garth would move next, it would have to be quick if he hoped to avoid the Psyduck.

    occ: My bad. @Buzzer
    --------------------------

I watched with a small amount of satisfaction as Ludicolo catapulted forward to strike the Psyduck. The collision between the smaller yellow Pokemon and the much larger Ludicolo could only end one way. Psyduck was hit with the full force of the attack. The force of the attack caused the Psyduck to roll backwards from the force of the blow. But no sooner had the two collided when the seed Ludicolo had launched previously came into contact with the stubby tail of the foe Water type. The seed immediately sprouted long green vines that rose up to encircle the body of Psyduck; while sharp thorns attached to the vines imbedded themselves in the soft flesh of Psyduck.

A shrill honking sound filled the air as the Psyduck vocalized the pain it was feeling. My features twisted into a scowl, the Psyduck didn't have to make everyone else miserable because it was. Ludicolo returned to its position in front of me and I waited for the response of Psyduck. I didn't have to wait long.

The normally black eyes of Psyduck took on a lavender glow. I unconscious arched an eyebrow as I figured Psyduck to launch one of its Psychic type attacks. Although normally to be considered a gentle species of Psyduck, once enraged the little Pokemon could unleash some powerful Psychic attacks. This one was clearly not having a good day, but it would not ruin my cheerful mood. No sooner had the thoughts flashed through my mind when Psyduck became surrounded in the same lavender aura as it eyes and launched its body at Ludicolo. It had chosen to use a Zen Headbutt attack. I knew I couldn't allow the attack to hit and sustain some damage.

"Ludicolo, use your Substitute move followed up by a Toxic move," I called to it. My reasoning was simple, I didn't want to greatly damage Psyduck nor get hit by the attack. If Ludicolo could release the substitute in time it would take the attack while the rain and Leech Seed healed my Pokemon from the stress of creating a substitute.

As soon as the words registered in the mind of Ludicolo its body was already reacting to words of my voice. From my view it appeared that Ludicolo moved backwards, almost like shedding some old skin as an exact copy of it was left in place. A substitute was physically able to do any harm or attack, but it was able to take any damage my Pokemon would have, reducing the threat to injury, but costing a quarter of Ludicolo's health. I hoped the gamble payed off some ripe dividends. While it was using the Substitute move from the mini tree on its head leeched a purple and toxic sludge. The noxious stuff attached the Substitute copy as the real Ludicolo tried to avoid the attack. If I was lucky Psyduck would hit the substitute and come into contact with the Toxic move, dishing more damage to it.

"Ludicolo, use your Substitute move followed up by a Toxic move," Garth called to it. Buzz smiled as he really enjoyed this part of the job. He got to watch Pokémon Battles all day, whilst seeing and encountering new Pokémon and battle styles. He had learned to be a Battle referee for a similar reason. Watching other people battle was a great way to learn new tactics.

Buzz could tell why Garth had chosen this course of action, Substitute was a useful move in that it usually took all the damage from an attack at the cost of a quarter of the Pokémon's health, but the main advantage was that it gave time for the Pokémon to attack with a degree of safety.

Buzz watched as Ludicolo soon shedded its skin, there was a faded looking doll of the Ludicolo now stood inbetween the oncoming Psyduck and the Ludicolo. There also seemed to be a purple tinge to the faded skin, Ludicolo had coverred the Substitute in its Toxic attack.

Psyduck was still on course and was too enraged to alter the attack, the yellow Pokémon smashed into the Ludicolo's faded doll like Substitute. The doll shattered into lots of pieces, then a burst of telekinetic energy from the Psyduck propelled the fragments forward into Ludicolo. Buzz was shocked it was an interesting tactic and probably wouldn't do a great deal, but it was still a good way to get a bit more damage in a fight it appeared to be losing.

The purple slime had seeped onto Psyduck as it hit, it cringed once more as the poison crept its way into its blood stream. The vile substance etching out agony throughout the poor Psyduck.

The Psyduck landed on its feet and rubbing its head let out a curious honking noise once again, the pale lavender eyes had faded back to normality. Psyduck were prone to these sudden bursts of psychic energy and then would return to blissful ignorance. A serene look crossed its face as it seemed to be calming itself for the next attack.

    OCC: EDIT ~ @Buzzer

I watched as my strategy to poison the little water type worked as well as I had hoped. But I was surprised a second later when some of the fading shards from Substitute flew back and struck Ludicolo. It seemed this Pokemon wasn’t willing to give up the fight, it was willing to go all the way. Good enough for me, my Ludicolo would be ready.

The Toxic attack I had employed already seemed to be taking effect as the veins and arteries of Psyduck took on a faintly purple color. I knew not how Toxic felt, but I knew that the poisonous substance would only grow stronger as time passed on. Coupled with the Leech Seed I knew I was walking a fine line between getting the health of the Pokemon down and causing it to faint, in which case I wouldn’t be able to catch my foe and I would have caused Ludicolo pain for naught. This meant the only acceptable course would be to win and capture the finicky Pokemon.

As Ludicolo bounded back to me relatively unscathed, I turned my attention to the honking Psyduck. The lavender glow that was emitted from its eyes was now gone, replaced by the normal look of a Psyduck. I frowned in concentration of thought. This meant one of two things. In what would be a good case, the thing that might have happened is that the rage Psyduck was experiencing had faded away, and the normally peaceful side of the Pokemon had emerged. The flip side of that meant things were about to get worse. Psyduck could’ve had used the powerful move called Calm Mind. Calm Mind allowed the user of the move to calm itself in a matter of seconds, it was if they had been meditating for hours when in reality they hadn’t. Besides calming the user, Calm Mind had the extra benefit of raising the special attack and defense of the user Pokemon, ergo, bad news for me.

Well, I had to hope for the best and plan for the worst it seemed. Going through my options I realized it would have been really nice for me to have taught Ludicolo the powerful move known as Protect. Protect would have created a shield around my Pokemon that would have saved it from any harm if Psyduck tried to attack. My next option would have been to attack the weakened Pokemon, but even my weakest move could cause the Pokemon to faint after the statuses I inflicted on it started to work. I didn’t want to try the substitute move again, so that left me one choice. I had to stall.

My best option in this case would probably be to use the move Sunny Day.

“Ludicolo, go for a Sunny Day move.”

Ludicolo looked at me with a brief quizzical look for a second before nodding it head and turning to face its foe. I watched as my Pokemon closed its eyes, placed its flipper hands upon its chest, and raised it face to the heavens. It slowly moved its hands in a downward motion before it started to dance. The rhythmic movements consisted of the Pokemon repeatedly motioning towards the ground and facing the sky, all the while the mini tree on its head steadily growing brighter. Ten seconds later a beam of bright energy shot from the mini tree and sped towards the heavens above.

A moment later the dark clouds that had been overhead gave way to the bright rays of sunshine that poured from the now crystal clear blue sky.

“Excellent job, Ludicolo. Now, let’s wait and see what our opponent does.”

“Ludicolo, go for a Sunny Day move,” Garth called out after a few moments contemplation. Buzz guessed he was just stalling out the time until the Psyduck was within a capturable range of health the status moves and the Leech Seed should see to that. He just had to hope that Psyduck didn't do anything too rash and then he would be able to capture.

Ludicolo Pokemon closed its eyes, placed its flipper hands upon its chest, and raised it face to the heavens.

The sun shone brightly across the small grassy area they were stood upon. Buzz glanced briefly over the lakes as the bright sun reflected off the gently swaying surface of the water.

Looking back the Psyduck had sprung into action. Suddenly from its beak burst out a bright beam of energy, the moisture in the air froze around it. Ice beam. The sunlight refracted through the icicles that had formed in the air. The frozen beam struck the Ludicolo who stumbled backwards as the sub-zero beam struck it.

Then the Psyduck stuggled as the toxic leeched at its body. Buzz saw the energy draining from the Psyduck as Ludicolo's seed shone as it absorbed the health from the Leech Seed attack. Garth would have to be very careful in his next move, he wouldn't want to knock the Psyduck out.

No sooner had Ludicolo completed its Sunny Day move when Psyduck shot a bright cyan beam of energy at Ludicolo. I was somewhat surprised by the Ice Beam attack, but I knew it wouldn’t do too much damage. I looked at my foe Psyduck.

The small Pokemon was slightly wobbly and was breathing hard. The combination of Toxic and Leech Seed were doing well together. The only problem was that I needed to catch it without fainting the thing. I had only one chance to catch the little tike, after that he would faint and I would miss my chance.

It was time to use my next part of the plan. I couldn’t risk attacking Psyduck, but I wanted it to be weak as possible. “Alright, Ludicolo. Our foe is weak. Use your Synthesis to heal and catch the attention of the Psyduck.”

Ludicolo bounced up and down, happy at the news of getting healed after the damage it had sustained from the little Water type. The sun was already shining brightly so the Synthesis move would heal Ludicolo easily.

Ludicolo closed it eyes and focused on the sun. I knew exactly what the Pokemon was doing. It was imagining as a giant source of bright energy, and once it had accomplished that it visualized small pieces being pulled into its body. Each piece not at all significant, but together they would heal the battle damage. As Ludicolo’s ‘hat’ started to grow a vibrant green I hoped it would momentarily distract the tired Psyduck. I reached into my bag and pulled out the standard park ball.

I depressed the small button at the center to enlarge the ball and threw it at Psyduck.

Garth watched the events unfold patiently, he seemed to be aware time was running out based on his next call. “Alright, Ludicolo. Our foe is weak. Use your Synthesis to heal and catch the attention of the Psyduck.” It was clear he wanted Psyduck still.

The ball flew across the air, struck the small yellow Pokémon and within seconds the ball had landed and stopped shaking.

"Congratulations, you caught a Psyduck. Now park rules indicate that I have to hold onto the Psyduck till the end of your run," Buzz said to his trainer, putting the Poké Ball into the bag," well lets keep moving."

Buzz took a step to head onwards.

The Pokeball leapt from my hand and sailed towards Psyduck. My plan seemed to work; Psyduck was completely focused on Ludicolo and didn't see the Pokeball until it was too late. The ball struck Psyduck on its large ochre beak and opened with a bright red flash. Psyduck was pulled into the ball, which started to wiggle furiously. After three such wiggles the Pokeball stopped moving and a ding sounded. I smiled, Psyduck had been captured, it would make a fine additional to my water collection.

Buzz walked over to the Pokeball and pLaced it in his bag. “Congratulations, you caught a Psyduck. Now park rules indicate that I have to hold onto the Psyduck till the end of your run; well lets keep moving.”

I nodded and left Ludicolo out of his ball since he was fully healed. Together we followed Buzz down the path.

    Ranger Chainy

OOC: Hi, I'm taking over because Buzz apparently died and Winter is busy. I'mma be honest with you - your rolls aren't great. They are, actually, the worst list I've ever seen. I've gone over your RP, and your quality looks pretty good, so this is what I suggest goes down. You need to give me some really good posts, like say 3 or so very high quality ones, and then I can justify rerolling the crappy mons. Good luck ^^

Also, in the Park, each mon can only have use Ability. For some reason Buzz might not have picked up on that. Please choose one for each of your mons.

Geez, I'm sick and tired of cleaning up after Buzz. This is like the twentieth Expedition that's he failed to complete for one reason or another. He even managed to flake out on one run that involved two Elite Rangers, simply because he felt like a nap. His Xatu was more hard-working than he was.

I circled the lake on my Staraptor, Broadblade. He screeched when he located our target, and without warning I was suddenly pulled into a steep dive. I threw my arms around his neck and it wasn't more than half a minute before Broadblade flared his wings and brought us to a stop on the ground. Buzz looked somewhat surprised to see me. The Trainer was also a little shocked, but his Ludicolo didn't change its quirky carefree expression at all.

"Buzz, you're an idiot," I said as I dismounted the Staraptor. "How could you forget that you're due in court today? Remember, the redhead with the freckles?"

He slapped his forehead and chucked me a ParkBall before running over the hill without saying anything. I walked over to the Trainer and shook his hand warmly. He was a pretty stereotypical youth - black pants, tshirt, sunglasses. I approved of the look - anyone who didn't wear jeans was off to a good start with me. The presence of his Ludicolo contrasted somewhat viciously with the overall feel of his attire, though.

"Hey there, my name is James Carter and I'll be taking over. Sorry for all the confusion." I grinned.

I heard some squeaking behind me and I turned around to see a small blue penguin yapping up at us. It looked curious, as if it was asking us what we were doing here.

"I don't suppose you want to try catching a Piplup, do you?" I asked the young man.

OOC: Buzz must have forgot to put them in the post somewhere. Dry Skin|Swift Swim|Clear Body - @ChainReaction01

    -------

After catching the naughty little Psyduck, we were walking down a path when I heard the gentle beating of wings over the soft breeze. I lifted a hand to my head, to shield my eyes, as I scanned the bright sunny sky. A loud screech to my right caused me turn in that direction. Far above me, I could see a small speck flying about before it suddenly made a steep dive down. At first I thought it was simply a wild Pokemon who had spotted some food and was going in for the kill. Needless to say I was shocked when the Pokemon turned out to be a Staraptor with a person on its back. The Pokemon spread its large silver and black wings to slow its descent when it neared the ground. Its sharp beak and brow were no doubt products of the Intimidate ability the Pokemon possessed.

The man climbed down from the Pokemon’s back and turned to talk to Buzz. “Buzz, you're an idiot, how could you forget that you're due in court today? Remember, the redhead with the freckles?"

Buzz had clearly forgot he had other commitments based upon the look on his face. He slapped his forehead, chucked the newcomer the Pokeball containing the Psyduck and ran down the path we had just traveled.

The man came over and gave my hand a firm shake. “Hey there, my name is James Carter and I'll be taking over. Sorry for all the confusion,” he said grinning.

I returned the shake, but I was pretty sure that grin was because he must have done this before for Buzz. I was going to return the introduction but was cut off by a squeaking sound behind Carter.

"I don't suppose you want to try catching a Piplup, do you?" he said to me as he studied the blue penguin Pokemon.

I looked over his shoulder to stare at the small Pokemon, often given out as a starter for new trainers. I did want an Empoleon to add to my collection but I knew where I could get one without too much hassle. “Let’s leave the little guy alone,” I said to Carter. “But if he wants to battle Ludicolo is rearing to go.”

Ludicolo bounded over, still merry despite the encounter with Psyduck. When it saw the Pokemon it might be battling it let loose with something that might have been called a laugh. “Don’t mock it, it knows flying moves.” That seemed to sober Ludicolo up as I turned back to Piplup to see what it would do.
