I had been taking trainers too quickly through the park. Because of this, runs I had would essentially end in no time, and I'd be back to having nothing better to do, than sit here spinning around in my office chair. And while that was fun for a while, it did get repetitive. Plus, there were those occasional times when I'd crash into something. Yes, it it certainly got boring when there was nothing to do around here.

Hey, you're being requested to take another trainer through the park, my Gardevoir said to me, as she walked in.

    "Oh sweet, work. Where to?"

    Mount Oktori.

"What? Oktori again? That seems to be where everyone goes lately. I can remember when everyone had the fascination of going to Mount Deckbi, because of Pokemon such as Larvesta, and Litwick. Now though it's all about Oktori. Who am I taking anyway?"

    Akinai.

"Ahh, again? I guess she didn't get her fill of Mount Oktori just yet. Wonder what she's after this time though. I'll need to make sure I ask when we get there. Alright then, let's head out Gardevoir," I said, and with that we made our way out of the Ranger Post, and to the outside area.

I had taken Akinai through the park once, and it was an interesting experience. The last time it had been through Mount Oktori as well. This was pretty funny, since I had heard from Eric that he was being taken through Mount Oktori as well, and ironically enough by Akinai's buddy, Makina. I didn't know what Akinai was after, but with her bringing along a Flygon, well I'd assume she didn't want many Ice-types. Especially since I also noticed she had an Ice-type Repellent that she may or may not use when she got here. Guess I'd just need to wait, and see.

The first day Akinai entered Lilycove City, it was raining.

This was not surprising in the least. After all, Hoenn was a tropical region, and Lilycove was right by the sea so already experienced a decent amount of rainfall. No, the annoying part was that after a solid five days of taking shelter in the local Pokemon Center, was that the weather had not changed in the least. Even the locals admitted that this was quite odd.

“You can still take a ship out of here though,” one of the sailors remarked, who had entered the Center to quickly heal up his Machop. Apparently the Pokemon had slipped while trying to unload cargo, and had pulled a muscle in the process.

“I didn't want to embark on a cruise, I came here to train,” Akinai replied, impatient for being stuck indoors for a few days. She hated rain. It was a complete pain to travel in, Jade always complained, and whenever it rained something bad always seemed to happen eventually. “No one wants to battle in this weather either, save for the Water Trainers.”

“Why not enter the Park then? We have a ship leaving for there soon, they'll most likely let you board if you make a quick reservation,” the sailor pointed out. Seeing that his Machop was healed, he nodded to Akinai and walked back towards the counter.

Akinai mulled that thought over, slightly frowning as she tried to figure out what to do next. Checking out the Park again wasn't a bad idea, she had the funds after all. Problem was, she had journeyed there not that long ago, and had not even tried out the two Pokemon she had captured in the Power Plant. Still, it would be a change...

Beside her, two Pokemon rolled their eyes at their partner's indecision; one being able to sense the emotion over their mental link and the other being quite used to her Trainer's actions. <If it gets you out of this slump, do it,> Zen replied, keeping to the link. Judging by the way the Flygon nodded in agreement to the remark though, Jade had been clued in as well. <It's not like we like being stuck here with nothing to do as well.>

Where to go though? I don't want to enter the Plant again for a while, it was practically bursting at the seams with Pichu, Akinai responded in turn, retrieving her old park pamphlet from her pack. Meteor Valley wasn't exactly hospitable this time of year, the Great Lakes was flooding, she didn't really want to check out the Woods or Gardens in the chance it was raining there as well... How about one of the mountains?

Jade perked up at this, peering over at the brochure and pointing at Mount Deckbi with a single claw. It was clear that wherever she wished to go she wanted it to be nice and warm.

<I suppose it wouldn't be a bad place to check out,> the Gallade remarked, looking over at the picture as well, then froze as he saw Akinai turn the page. <...No. Not in a million years, I'm not going back there!>

    It's been a while though!
Akinai shot back, skimming over the list of Pokemon found on Mount Oktori. There were still a few that looked promising, though she saw no more Ice-types that she desired at the moment. I have to take one of you two along, you know that.

<Take Jade then,> Zen grumbled, crossing his blade-arms in a stubborn gesture. Beside him, Jade merely looked quizzical, as if she couldn't understand what the problem was. It was apparent that the Gallade had not clued her in on what exactly he hated so much about the region, or else she would have bolted away from them in protest.

Akinai inwardly groaned, knowing that she was going to hear it later.

    ~*~

“Well, that must be our ranger now,” Akinai said, pointing towards the figure that was waiting outside the outpost. She thought she saw a Gardevoir as well, and was struck with an odd sense of deja vu. It couldn't be the same Ranger as last time, could it?

Jade glared in response, shivering slightly as she hovered closely behind her partner. This new white world was cold, terrible, and reminded her of fighting wild Spheal. Still, she refused to give in and return back to her Ball so tried to weather it out.

As they approached closer, Akinai saw that it was indeed the same Ranger who had taken her before, down to the shorts and silently observing Gardevoir. “You're Gary, right? Nice to see you again! I'm Akinai, if you forgot, and the stubborn green shadow behind me is Jade,” she said.

Before she could continue on, Jade impatiently nudged her Trainer as if to say, use the damned repellent already!

“Ah, right,” Akinai said, pushing away the Flygon and pulling out a small aerosol can with a snowflake label. She sprayed it both on herself and Jade, making sure that the scent covered them both. “Since I'm using a Flygon, this is to make sure we don't run into any Ice-types this time around,” she explained. “Anyways, I'm ready when you are.”

Akinai approached us, along with her Flygon in the background. Having Flygon out almost nearly confirmed that she probably wasn't here looking for Ice-types, because to go battle Ice-types with something that they have a major advantage against is silly. I never knew what to expect anymore though, not since I've seen a Scizor battle a Fire-type Pokemon, and manage to win while both started out at full health. Just figured all I could do is ask.

“You're Gary, right? Nice to see you again! I'm Akinai, if you forgot, and the stubborn green shadow behind me is Jade,” Akinai said.

"Nah, Eric is the forgetful one, what with the blows to the head he has taken over the years. I remember you. It's good to see you again, though kinda funny that we're back here," I said, before Gardevoir interrupted.

I thought that you were Eric though.

No, I'm Gary, I figured you would know which of us is which. Though I'm not too shocked you forgot since he's my identical twin brother. Yeah, I bet you didn't see that plot twist coming. This is why he, and myself always had the same Pokemon, because we shared Pokemon, rather than capture our own. We just figured it was better this way, besides Eric was the battler, who'd go out and capture new Pokemon, and I was the one who would take trainers through the park, and needed Pokemon to keep me company, as well as help out when needed. It'd get a little complicated at times if we both wanted to have the same Pokemon with us, but we settled things like reasonable adults. With a coin flip naturally. That's why I have Gardevoir with me right now.

Before Akinai could say anything else her Flygon nudged her for some reason.

“Ah, right,” Akinai said, as she pulled out what I believed to be her Ice-type Repellent, and sprayed it. Well, that had solved that, she was in fact not going for Ice-type Pokemon. “Since I'm using a Flygon, this is to make sure we don't run into any Ice-types this time around. Anyways, I'm ready when you are.”

"So, I see you captured enough Ice-types last time huh? Well that's fine, there's plenty of nice Fighting-types you can run into, though there are those...not so nice ones coughMakuhita, and the Timburr line. Oh I'm sorry, I should probably get my cough checked. Either way though lets get going." With this we entered into the snowy terrain known as Mount Oktori. I loved being here, the pure white snow, and chilly temperatures were relaxing to me. I wasn't so sure how Akinai felt about this weather though, but it should have been alright. She wasn't looking for Ice-types clearly, so the majority of our run would be spent inside the cave where it was somewhat warmer. However before we could even reach the cave a Pokemon appeared, and seemed to be leading us towards the cave like it was luring us to follow it. I didn't think much of it, so I lead Akinai towards it in case she wanted it.

We got into the cave, and there the creature was. It was a mainly yellow, and reddish-pink Pokemon, who appeared to be capable of performing martial arts. It was a tough Pokemon, despite being unevolved, and one that was usually sought after because it was badass while unevolved, and pretty impressive while evolved. You couldn't go wrong with this thing. Of course though I didn't know if Akinai came here looking for one of these or not, since she didn't encounter it during her last trip here, but I was about to find out.

"Well, it seems this Mienfoo wants to battle you, since it led us into the cave where there would be no distractions. Are you interested in facing it?"

OOC: requesting Mienfoo to be Female, please.

Gary seemed content with waiting for the moment as Akinai finished using the last of her repellent. For such a small bottle, the scent was supposed to be strong enough to last several hours. Still, the smell was surprisingly faint despite its potency. Once the bottle had been properly disposed of, Gary finally spoke up, “So, I see you captured enough Ice-types last time huh? Well that's fine, there's plenty of nice Fighting-types you can run into, though there are those... not so nice ones.”

“Right, I meant to ask you about that last time,” Akinai interrupted, trying to squeeze in a quick question before the subject was changed once more. During her last visit to Oktori, her Ranger had reacted quite strangely to two specific Pokemon. Their encounter with a Makuhita had made Gary turn green in the face, and he had even lobbed a snowball at a wild Timburr. All in all, weird behavior for one who was supposed to observe the local wildlife and preserve the environment. “What was your problem with-”

“coughMakuhita, and the Timburr line,” Gary muttered quickly, then continued on normally. “Oh I'm sorry, I should probably get my cough checked. Either way though lets get going,” he said, motioning for Akinai and Jade to follow.

“Or we could just ignore it once more,” Akinai grumbled, following the Ranger through the gate leading into Oktori. It was now obvious that whatever story was behind Gary's dislike of the two Pokemon, he had no desire at all to share or relive in the least. Considering the issue dropped, she trudged forward, leading a very reluctant Jade along for the way.

Mount Oktori had hardly changed at all, with white snow blanketing the ground everywhere as before with the mountain a short distance away. This time there was no Pokemon to greet them at the entrance; unsurprising since usually only Ice-types spent most of their time outside the nearby caves. This was proof enough that the repellent was working at full strength.

Gary wasted no time at all, leading them to one of the closer cavern entrances. From outside, the entrance appeared to be a gaping maw awaiting anyone to enter its depths so it could close down on the unwilling victim. As they approached closer, a figure in the snow began to move towards the cave as well, as if trying to hide out of sight.

Akinai tried to take a closer look at the creature, trying to spot any distinguishing features. Unfortunately, the sunlight hitting the snow and the Pokemon's color scheme made it almost impossible to figure out just what it was. She thought she glimpsed a quick dash of pink though before it disappeared inside though.

As they entered the cave, Jade darted in front of them, relieved to finally be out of the constant snow. Taking a glance at the rocky ground, she gave a huff of annoyance as she used her tail to quickly sweep away some excess snow in her way before landing.

“I swear my entire team is scared of snow.” Akinai sighed, earning a death glare from her starter in return. “Granted, you at least have a good reason for it. Zen, on the other hand...”

The sound of something clearing its throat caused Akinai to look around, eventually spotting a small yellow-shaded creature sitting on a rock barely a few feet away from them. Its short ears and tail were currently drooped, as if it was slightly upset that it had been ignored for so long. The dark pink markings on its arms and feet revealed it to be the figure in the snow earlier.

“Well, it seems this Mienfoo wants to battle you, since it led us into the cave where there would be no distractions,” Gary remarked. “Are you interested in facing it?”

“I am, actually.” Akinai said, keeping her eyes on the wild Pokemon. Mienfoo was one of the Pokemon on the list that had interested her actually, and running into one right off the bat was a nice change after her last run. Granted, she had run into a Sneasel, another Pokemon she had wanted at the time, as her first encounter as well. Perhaps this area was just weird like that. “Jade, are you up for a battle, or would you like to warm up a bit more first?”

Jade wasn't too happy with having to move after just landing to rest, but gave a dismissive wave towards her trainer in response as she walked towards the Mienfoo. After all, a light exercise was perfect for warming up as well. Plus, it wasn't like she had to fight out in that blasted snow!

“Good to see that you're ready to go,” Akinai grinned, then mulled over what technique to go with first. Thanks to a large amount of training and spending her funds on TMs, Jade was now one of her most learned teammates so there were quite a few moves to choose from. Going on the offensive could always work, but Mienfoo were supposed to be quite agile. If she didn't play her cards right, the Martial Arts Pokemon would just run circles around them. “Let's go with Hone Claws first, then try to land a Supersonic,” Akinai commanded.

Jade nodded and began to scratch her claws vigorously across the nearby rocks. If done correctly, this would sharpen her claws to both strengthen her attacks and make them a little more accurate as the sound slowed their opponent's movements. Once this was done, the Flygon would let loose a series of high-pitched sound-waves using either her wings or mouth in an attempt to confuse the listener.

OOC: Technically you didn't get a post today, so gonna grind one out.

IC: Akinai seemed interested in this Mienfoo, despite us not actually running into it, but rather in running into us, looking for a fight. Couldn't blame her though, because Mienfoo was something you'd commonly see trainers come to Mount Oktori for. Trainers such as one of Bumblebee's various split personalities. Or my brother Eric. I didn't think Akinai was going to be much different, since the last time we were here she didn't get a chance at one.

“I am, actually.” Akinai said, while staring at this Pokemon. She had some plan in mind for facing this thing, as she should, because Mienfoo could be a tough Pokemon to contend with. Especially if it was one of the ones sporting Reckless as its ability, and then hits you with a Hi Jump Kick. That's bound to hurt no matter what you are, excluding Ghost-types mind you. “Jade, are you up for a battle, or would you like to warm up a bit more first?” Akinai asked her Flygon, who appeared to be ready to go. That was good, because there was a good chance that Mienfoo wouldn't just stand there going "lalala" while Flygon warmed itself up.

“Good to see that you're ready to go,” Akinai said, while appearing to be thinking, probably about what move, or moves to be used. It seemed to dawn on her rather quickly. “Let's go with Hone Claws first, then try to land a Supersonic,” she commanded. I had to say, wow. This was completely different than what I was use to seeing in a battle. Granted I'd generally only see Eric battle, but still. He'd tend to go, and attack at full force, because to him the best defense was a strong offense. In the case of Akinai though it seemed like she would rather play things safe, and get a feel of how the battle may go first.

First up came Hone Claws. What this did was sharpen the users claws, which as you can imagine raised their attack, but it also sharpened their focus in the process too raising their accuracy. This was understandable. Have Flygon boost its attack, so it had something to work with later, and boost its accuracy for now, so that Supersonic had a better chance of hitting. As it was Supersonic was a rare move to hit, because the user would fire out three golden like rings of energy, that would confuse the foe upon contact. However, if any one of these rings missed the foe then the attack would fail. But by raising its own accuracy, by the means the rings should become larger, and more likely to hit.

Mienfoo wasn't a fool though, while Flygon had been using Hone Claws, Meinfoo ran over to it, and almost as it to taunt, or anger Flygon, Mienfoo slapped in the face a few times. Once on the right side, then once on the left, then again on the right side to finish up. Meinfoo had used DoubleSlap, a move that wasn't the most powerful. These slaps seemed to not anger Flygon, but rather make its focus razor sharp. It let out the Supersonic, in a fearsome fashion, so much so that the move cause a powerful gust, knocking Mienfoo over, and obviously making it confused in the process. Now that, what I believed to be the warmups, were completed, I had to wonder what Akinai was planning to do.

While Jade had been sharpening her claws, Mienfoo had decided that this would be the perfect time to act. Running over to the Flygon's position, she began to slap her target in the face, landing three hits before Jade could do anything. Despite the strange choice of attack, the Mienfoo seemed rather proud of herself for the damage done.

Jade, however, was far from impressed. While the move had hurt, it was hardly anything to worry about, not even enough to get angry. Instead, she quickly turned her head towards Mienfoo and blasted off her Supersonic at point-blank range. This caused the wild Pokemon to tumble away, most likely confused at this point due to being hit at so close a range.

“That wasn't exactly the smartest move there,” Akinai commented, shaking her head at Mienfoo. “Can't say that it's a coward though, running towards a fully-evolved Dragon takes some guts.” Still, the Pokemon had only performed one move so far, and Jade had not performed any damaging moves yet. This match was far from over, and Mienfoo was bound to have at least one trick up its sleeve.

Jade gave a disbelieving snort in response, not sharing her trainer's opinion about the wild Fighting-type. In fact, she seemed more worried about the snow than her own opponent, lifting herself off from the ground once more and stared distastefully at the frozen slush before she peered over at the Mienfoo.

She's going to regret that if she keeps worrying more about getting wet instead of an incoming Pokemon attack, Akinai mused. It wasn't like Jade was her only Pokemon for this run, she had two in reserve after all. Still, she had been hoping to help her starter get over some of her dislike over the cold. The Flygon would always be extremely weak versus Ice Pokemon, true, but if the situation absolutely called for it she would have to be prepared. Plus, it wasn't like Ice-type moves were limited to only Pokemon of that type. “It's not like the snow is going to reach up and grab you Jade, you'll be fine,” she reassured her. “Just keep your eyes on your opponent.”

Jade flicked her tail in a dismissive gesture, but complied. She did turn her large head towards Akinai though, silently asking for her next move as she impatiently hovered in place.

“Right, let's go with Aerial Ace next, then follow up with a Mud Shot,” Akinai commanded. “With any luck, you can get a hit in and make your escape before Mienfoo can hit you.” This was wishful thinking more than anything else; after all, Mud Shot only lowered the target's speed, not accuracy. Still, it would help encourage Jade to get in and out of range as quickly as possible, if only to decrease her chances of being hit.

Jade flew over to Mienfoo, lowering down to ready her aim. If all went well, she would dive in and strike Mienfoo with one of her wings, hopefully doing a decent amount of damage. Once this was done, she would spit out a glob of mud towards the Fighting-type, both hurting the Pokemon and lowering her speed as well.

“That wasn't exactly the smartest move there. Can't say that it's a coward though, running towards a fully-evolved Dragon takes some guts,” Akinai said, shaking her head at Mienfoo. I don't know if she had really battled with Fighting-types before, because they generally all had guts. Guts, but I didn't know how wise they were, when they tried to do something like taunt a Dragon-type by slapping it in the face.

“It's not like the snow is going to reach up and grab you Jade, you'll be fine. Just keep your eyes on your opponent,” Akinai said, looking over at her Flygon. I had noticed it was taking its eyes off of Mienfoo, and looking around at the snow. I guess I couldn't blame her for being worried, since she had a quadruple weakness to Ice. Still though it would do her much better to focus on her opponent. Mienfoo didn't know any Ice-type attacks, short of maybe Hidden Power, and if Flygon wasn't watching it could be hit down into the snow.

“Right, let's go with Aerial Ace next, then follow up with a Mud Shot. With any luck, you can get a hit in and make your escape before Mienfoo can hit you,” Akinai commanded. I had no idea what she meant by this. Aerial Ace was just an attack, and Mud Shot would reduce the targets speed, not its accuracy. The move Akinai was thinking of was Mud Bomb. Maybe she didn't even mean any of that at all. Maybe she just meant that she was hoping Flygon could attack, and then use its speed to try to get out of the way of whatever Mienfoo intended to throw its way. Guess I was about to find out.

First up was Aerial Ace. This was just your standard, nothing fancy, Flying-type attack. The user would astonish the foe with their speed, and then when an opening arose, they would run over and strike nimbly. In most cases, such as with a Pokemon like Flygon, the user would attack with their wings, making it sort of like a variant of Wing Attack, only with a better chance to hit. Flygon flew over at Mienfoo, and struck it right across its chest, before moving to a clean spot of the cave ground for its next attack. Aerial Ace seemed to do some decent damage to Mienfoo, probably because of Flygon's boosted attack.

Before Flygon could get its next move off, Mienfoo attempted to get a counterattack in. Attempted. It was attempted, because when Mienfoo hurdled itself at Flygon it wasn't actually Flygon. Its confusion played a factor here, and what it saw was an image double from the side effect of confusion. Because of this, Mienfoo ended up crashing into one of the cave walls.

Now Flygon could focus on using Mud Shot. Mud Shot was essentially a stronger version of Mud Slap. The user would attack by throwing, or kicking a blob of mud at the opposing Pokemon. In doing so this would slow them in their tracks a little, reducing their speed. Only problem here was we were inside of a cave, so there wasn't exactly mud to be found. I'm sure Akinai knew this though, and was counting on the hard ground itself to be a fine substitute. Flygon stuck its foot down, and with a great force it kicked at the ground, sending it flying towards Mienfoo. Despite being confused though, Mienfoo tried to protect itself when it came to. It kicked up a bit of the snow that had been in the area next to it, like it were a shield. This worked momentarily, though the ground proved tougher than the snow, and it broke its way through, striking Mienfoo. The Fighting-type Pokemon had a bit of trouble starting to get back up. On top of that it was still confused, and did appear slower. Things were not looking good for it.

Jade managed to get a hit in with Aerial Ace, striking the Mienfoo right in the chest with one of her wings as she flew by. This didn't mean that she had not ceased worrying about the landscape in the least however; once her attack had landed, the Flygon looked about for a snow-free portion of ground before roosting once more. Akinai silently hoped that this was performed out of worry rather then overconfidence though. Despite her partner's skills and patience that all starters were supposed to have, Jade could get overconfident at the worst of times.

Once Mienfoo got back to her feet, she glared and charged for a counterattack- in the completely wrong direction. Instead of running towards Jade's landing point, she instead ran straight into the cavern wall, making a dull thunk as she crashed into it. Dazed by the fact that she had run into a wall instead of a Pokemon, the Martial Arts Pokemon peered confusedly about.

Jade gave a smug smile in return, a sentiment that Akinai couldn't help but share as well. While Supersonic was a favorite for them to use, the move's low accuracy had always made it more a way to kill time than an actual attack. Buying that Technical Machine to improve her accuracy did indeed help in the long run, and would help them think of even more moves to try out in the future. Still, it was too early to celebrate.

Seeing that this was an opportune time to strike, Jade launched a large glob of dirt towards the Mienfoo, the snow on the ground quickly turning it into mud. As the missile approached the Fighting-type she kicked up a large amount of snow skyward, creating a semi barrier. The mud's mass was stronger however, and eventually the snow fell away and was added to the attack, coating the Pokemon in both a great deal of mud and snow. If it stuck, Mienfoo would be a little slower for now.

“Doing good so far, but don't get too confident,” Akinai called out to Jade, half as a warning and half to remind her that they were still a ways away from wrapping this up. She almost wanted to try out Aerial Ace and whittle down Mienfoo's health that way, but she didn't care to use the same move twice on the same Pokemon; not only was this almost like cheesing a battle, but wild Pokemon were far from stupid. This went double for Pokemon residing in the Park, they appeared to know an even wider variety of moves thanks to watching battles. Fortunately, she wasn't limited to a single super-effective move, and even had a way to possibly enfeeble as well.

Seeing that Jade was ready, Akinai readied her next command. “Go in using Fly, then try to land a Toxic!” she called out to the Flygon. This would both keep Jade in the Air as well as hopefully land a status effect on the Mienfoo. While she could have used a damaging attack with a secondary status effect, she wanted to judge how the wild Pokemon fared against Fly and go from there.

Jade took off once more, this time flying out of reach to judge when would be the right time to attack her target. Once she tried landing her attack, she would launch either a smoke cloud or liquid of extremely venomous properties, possibly seriously poisoning Mienfoo.

“Doing good so far, but don't get too confident,” Akinai said to Flygon. Probably a good warning to be honest, as overconfident Pokemon usually drop their guard, and are vulnerable to some heavy damage as a result. Akinai seemed to have good control over her Pokemon though, so Flygon was probably likely to listen to her warning. If she didn't it'd basically be an open invitation for Mienfoo to get some hits in.

“Go in using Fly, then try to land a Toxic!” Akinai commanded. Not only would Fly give Flygon some distance from Mienfoo to use Toxic, but it would also deal some damage once the attack was fully executed. I could still see her defense tactics through her offense being used. There was nothing wrong with playing a battle safely. Everyone did end up having a different way of battling.

Before Flygon could actually get in the air, Mienfoo jumped up at it, and kicked it right in its chin. Mienfoo either used Jump Kick, or Hi Jump Kick. If I had to guess though I would say it was Hi Jump Kick, since that was a more powerful move. She knew she hadn't caused any damage last time, well except to herself, and must had wanted to do something before it got hit. Don't know how wise it was though getting a kick in on a Pokemon who was about to hit you with a powerful move, that you were weak against though. Only time would show that one.

Flygon flew into the air. Fly would see the user fly into the air, circle around the bit to gain some speed, and come crashing down at the foe at a tremendous speed. In this case though Fly wasn't just being used for that reason. It was being used as a setup technique for Toxic. When Flygon came towards Mienfoo it would spit out some purple goo on it. If this goo ended up hitting, then she would become badly poisoned. This would slowly sap away her health at the end of each turn, starting with one sixteenth of Mienfoo's maximum health, and increase by an additional one sixteenth each round. Mienfoo was already kind of weak though, so Toxic wouldn't have a chance to do much damage, or else it could knock her out.

Flygon came down, and spit the Toxic at Mienfoo. While she did try to avoid it, the move came at her too fast, and there was no chance. It hit badly poisoning her. This wasn't all though. Flygon slammed her body against Mienfoo, sending the creature flying back, and slamming into the ground. Mienfoo got back up, but now some purple bubbles started to rise up from under her body, temporarily changing her skin purple in color. This was the damage from Toxic sinking in. At this point it wouldn't take much more before Akinai could attempt to capture this thing, and move on.

As Jade began to rise into the air once more, Mienfoo appeared determined to get a hit in this time around. Before the Flygon could get away, she jumped up and landed a strong kick on the Dragon-type's chin, startling her opponent for a moment. This was hardly enough to break Jade's concentration though, so as Mienfoo landed on the ground the Flygon flew out of range.

Jade circled the wild Pokemon a few times, looking for the right angle to strike from. Once she saw Mienfoo turn away for a split second she darted down, spitting a vile purple liquid at the Martial Arts Pokemon as well. The liquid hit nearly dead-on, and as the Toxic was absorbed into the Mienfoo's skin Jade crashed into her target, finishing her Fly technique. Mienfoo hit the ground hard, yet manage to pick herself up once more, albeit now badly poisoned.

Akinai looked over at Mienfoo as she tried to decide what to do next. There was a good chance that the Pokemon was at far less than half strength thanks to Jade's Flying attacks as well as hitting itself in confusion. The problem was, it didn't look completely ready to be captured just yet. Thanks to Toxic it wouldn't take much longer, but she couldn't exactly order Jade to sit around and wait for the wild Pokemon to get weak enough; she would have to order at least one more move.

“Let's finish this with a Sand Tomb, Jade,” Akinai commanded, then began to look through her pack for a Ball. While she could technically capture this thing with any Ball, she decided to try out the weakest version first and see how it went from there. If it managed to break free or even break the device entirely, she would use a stronger version.

Jade began to beat her wings at a faster rate, kicking up some of the mud from earlier and a decent amount of snow. If she managed to pull it off, the collected materials would circle around her for a moment as she collected them into a miniature twister, then the Flygon would direct it towards the nearby target.

Regardless of how Jade's attack planned out, Akinai readied a Parkball as she looked for the correct moment to throw. Once she saw it, she would toss the sphere forward and hopefully capture this Pokemon so they could finally move forward.

Before giving any command to her Pokemon, Akinai looked over at Mienfoo, and seemed like she was trying to figure out what to do. Can't blame her for wanting to think things through at this point before giving a command. It still had too much health for a secure capture, but at the same time it was too weak to try something major such as Aerial Ace, or Earthquake. She'd need to really think this through.

“Let's finish this with a Sand Tomb, Jade,” Akinai commanded. This was smart. It was smart because Sand Tomb wasn't that powerful of an attack, in fact it was very weak, and with Toxic still being a damaging factor here, Akinai didn't want to do anything too crazy. I had to hope though that this would be enough to capture Mienfoo, because if it wasn't then there was no doubt in my mind that after the next round of battle Toxic would finish off the little creature.

Flygon used its power to create a miniature sandstorm, and trap it around Mienfoo like a tornado. Had Sand Tomb remained around for a little bit of time, it would slowly damage Mienfoo in a similar way to Toxic. Before she had a chance to react, Mienfoo was captured into the Sand Tomb, taking some light hits from it. On top of it, you could see that she once again started to take damage from Toxic, but this time it was twice as much as she took previously. This was Akinai's chance, and she knew it. She pulled out a Park Ball, and threw it at her. It sucked in Mienfoo, and she wasn't able to do much about it.

"Congrats, Akinai. Always nice to see someone capture the first thing they run into in the park," I said, as I walked over to the Pokeball, and placed it in my pocket. "So, I know you're looking for stuff that isn't Ice-type, but we were drawn into the cave, you didn't get to say if you wanted to come in here or not. So do you wish to continue looking around in here, or do you want to look outside, for anything that might be training in the snow?" I asked. I was fairly certain I knew what she would want to do, but I had to ask anyway.

As Mienfoo was sucked into the Parkball, the Sand Tomb surrounding the creature seemed to pause in time for a moment, as if holding its breath. This was one of the strange quirks about moves that lasted multiple turns- if the target Pokemon was either trapped in a Pokeball or ended up fainting, the attack would falter. As the sphere finally grew still and the sand began to dissipate, there was no need to listen for the trademark pinging sound; Mienfoo had finally given up the fight.

“Congrats, Akinai. Always nice to see someone capture the first thing they run into in the park,” Gary said, walking over to the Parkball and pocketing it. He then turned around and gestured to the cave, “So, I know you're looking for stuff that isn't Ice-type, but we were drawn into the cave, you didn't get to say if you wanted to come in here or not. So do you wish to continue looking around in here, or do you want to look outside, for anything that might be training in the snow?”

Akinai didn't even have to respond; as soon as Jade heard the word “snow” the Flygon flew over towards the two humans and crossed her arms as she vehemently shook her head. While she had chosen to stay out of her Ball, traveling out in that mixture of frozen death and wind was absolutely going past the line.

“I think Jade pretty much confirmed my answer,” Akinai said, grinning at her starter before turning to Gary. “Let's continue checking out the cave, I didn't get to really look at them last visit after all.”

“I think Jade pretty much confirmed my answer. Let's continue checking out the cave, I didn't get to really look at them last visit after all,” Akinai said after checking with her Flygon. I wasn't really shocked to tell you the truth. I knew a Pokemon like that hated the ice, and snow, and Akinai was right, the last time she was here she really didn't get the best look around in the caves. They were home to many different Pokemon afterall.

"That's fine with me, but it might get dark up ahead so, come on out Skarmory," I said as the dual Steel, and Flying-type Pokemon appeared. "It's going to get dark up ahead at some point, so would you mind using Flash for me?" I asked Skarmory, who happily nodded. Skarmory then let out a powerful flash of light, though nothing blinding or anything, and maintained the glow so that it was like one big flashlight. With that I started to lead Akinai along the way, making sure that I'd keep my eyes peeled for anything that we could run into.

We started walking the way, and it was what you'd expect a cave to be. It was dark, somewhat frozen over in parts, and full of twists and turns. There were several different paths that could lead you to deeper parts of the cave, or back outside. For the time being though I just took a standard path that would lead us to the central area of the cave. This way we were bound to run into something sooner or later. I started to lead her down the pathway, but before we ever really got down there I happened to notice a Pokemon sitting atop a medium sized stone.

This Pokemon had been in a deep state of meditation, but it looked as though if you'd get too close to it, it would come to. Its body was generally blue, but there were some white parts. They were its onion shaped head, its wrists, its feet, and what appeared to be pants. I wasn't sure if this thing was truly in a state of meditation, or if it was just asleep. Or maybe it was playing possum, waiting for us to walk by it, and try to strike.

"Well, I know you didn't want to face one of these the last time you came here, but maybe you've changed your mind since then. Happen to want a Meditite?"

Akinai was unsurprised to hear that there would little light to see by once they hit the deeper areas of the cave. It only made sense, after all how would light enter a sealed cavern? What she was surprised to see though was Gary calling out a Skarmory to light their path.

"It's going to get dark up ahead at some point, so would you mind using Flash for me?" Gary asked the Pokemon, receiving a happy nod in return. The Steel-type appeared to be illumination in a light for a split second, then shit the light forward, illuminating the area.

“You learn something new every day,” Akinai mused, keeping her voice low. While Skarmory was on her list of Pokemon to obtain in the future, she had no idea they could learn Flash. Still, it was an interesting fact to know and she made a mental note to remember that as she followed the Ranger further into the cave.

There appeared to be many paths to travel as they passed multiple tunnels leading in nearly every direction, but Gary appeared to keep to keep things simple for now and take the most straightforward path. They didn't really travel far before running into another Pokemon, this one deep in a trance.

“Well, I know you didn't want to face one of these the last time you came here, but maybe you've changed your mind since then. Happen to want a Meditite?” Gary inquired.

Akinai shook her head in response, “Not really, and for the same reason as last time as well. I still have Zen, but he still refuses to come here. I'll use a Doll if it wakes up though.”

    NBP 1
    Ranger Smith

Joe looked up at the entrance to the Ranger Headquarters and sighed. He was home. He walked forward, swinging his suitcase in time with his trailing leg. Joe had been away for almost a year now, supposedly off doing a course about first aid for Pokemon. He had missed the National Park, missing going on adventures and he also missed the expeditions with the trainers. Joe walked through the door and was greeted by the receptionist.

“Welcome back Mr Smith, I hope you had a nice time learning about saving Pokemon’s lives. There have been a few changes since you’ve been gone. A young ranger called Alex Thompson has taken your desk, however there is a spare one over towards the water fountain. Apart from that everything is OK.”

“Thanks, by the way I don’t suppose there are any runs that need taking? I have been itching to get back into the swing of it and thought I could take a spare run?” Alex asked the receptionist.

The receptionist looked down at her computer and started to jab the keyboard, typing in some random letters. Seconds later she clicked the mouse and looked up at Joe. “Yeah, there is a trainer called Akinai currently at Mt. Oktori. Her ranger has to come back right now because of some random incident which involved him,” said the receptionist and grabbed the printed piece of paper from the printer and handed it to Joe. Joe took the piece of paper and grabbed a small red and white ball from his belt. He dropped the ball onto the ground and a human sized Pokemon appeared in front of him.

’Morning Master, where are we going today?’

’Mt Oktori, around the outskirts. I believe our trainer is located in the co-ordinates 234 876’

Joe watched as Alakazam started to process the numbers. Then the psychic Pokemon held out his hand and placed it on Joe’s shoulder. Alakazam closed his eyes and teleported both Joe and himself. Joe felt himself free failing for about two seconds. He landed on the ground and looked up, noticing he was in Mt. Oktori. Alakazam slowly walked up beside him, brushing off some dust. Joe looked ahead and watched as a small Pokemon quickly appeared from the bushes. The Pokemon was holding what looked like a small tree trunk and started to run towards a dark figure in the distance. Joe quickly ran closer, hoping to observe what is happening. Once he was in position, he noticed a Trainer facing the Pokemon that Joe had just noticed. It was a Timburr, a fighting Pokemon, and the pre-evolution of Conkledurr. Joe quickly slid down the cliff and landed beside the trainer. He turned to the trainer and held out his hand, saying “Hello, the name is Joe Smith. I am going to be your ranger today.”

Timburr looked forward and started to force his tree trunk into the ground, trying to intimidate Akinai. Joe turned to Akinai and said again, “Want to battle this Timburr?”

Akinai waited for a response, expecting to hear an answer from Gary soon or at least a motion for them to pass the Meditite silently, but nothing happened. After a few moments passed and nothing seemed likely to change she turned around... and was surprised to see that her Ranger had disappeared. What in the world? Don't tell me he has a thing against Meditite as well now. She looked over at Jade to see if the Flygon had seen where their guide had gone, only to receive a confused shrug in response.

Suddenly, another Pokemon appeared from the shadows to approach them, carrying a large piece of lumber. It appeared none too happy to see newcomers, and slammed its weapon on the ground in an intimidating gesture.

“Well, that explains where my Ranger went,” Akinai muttered, glaring at the wild Timburr. Thankfully, the nearby Meditite appeared to be either a deep sleeper or had no interest in them, for it hardly even twitched.

Before she could figure out what to do next, An Alakazam materialized into sight nearby, partnered with a human. This was most likely her new Ranger. “Hello, the name is Joe Smith. I am going to be your ranger today.” he said, confirming the theory. After looking about, his eyes rested upon the nearby wild Pokemon, “Want to battle this Timburr?”

“I'm Akinai, but right now might not be the best time for introductions,” Akinai hastily responded, pointing over at the sleeping Meditite to show that there was more than one wild Pokemon in the vicinity. “I'd rather not battle any Timburr, and that other one may wake up at any time so could we go somewhere else? I have a Doll in case it tries to follow us.”

“I'm Akinai, but right now might not be the best time for introductions,” Akinai hastily responded, pointing over at the sleeping Meditite. Joe suddenly noticed it, wondering when it would wake. Before he could say something, Akinai said “I'd rather not battle any Timburr, and that other one may wake up at any time so could we go somewhere else? I have a Doll in case it tries to follow us.”

Alex agreed. Timburr was a common Pokemon and was easily obtainable in other ways apart from the National Park. However now they were faced with a big problem. They had to escape from two Pokemon, one who is sleeping and the other who wants a fight. Alex suddenly had an idea.

Alakazam, can you teleport us to somewhere else?

Alakazam nodded and held his placed both of his hands of Akinai and Joe. Then, Alakazam suddenly shut his eyes and teleported a couple of metres behind the sleeping Meditite and angry Timburr. Joe remembered reading somewhere that the move Teleport had limitations in each part of the park. It was sensible really, it mean’t that trainers could not just run away from every Pokemon they encounter. Now that they were away from Timburr, Joe led Akinai down a small road, which spiralled down the mountain.

As they walked down the road, Joe heard something up ahead, it sounded like boulders being smashed. As they took a couple of steps forward, Joe noticed a medium sized Pokemon, smashing its arm onto a couple of rocks. Its blue body was hidden by a karate uniform. Joe was surprised, he had never seen this Pokemon before. It was a Sawk, a Pokemon which was found by a couple of explores when ‘Generation 5’ migrated to the parks.

Joe turned to Akinai and said, “Want to battle this Sawk?”

Joe nodded in agreement, then motioned to his Alakazam as if silently requesting the Pokemon to do something. The Psychic-type placed a hand on each human before teleporting them both a short distance away, behind the two Pokemon. While they were still within sight, the Timburr had not appeared to notice their new location just yet.

Seeing a now very distressed Jade looking about, Akinai pulled out the Flygon's Pokeball and silently recalled her partner, hoping that Timburr had not noticed the red light. Thankfully, it appeared more interested in the sleeping Meditite rather than trying to find its old targets. Taking one last glance back, Akinai followed Joe towards a nearby exit leading on a downward path.

Not far down the road, a loud noise resounded through the air, as if something was getting smashed into pieces. As they approached closer, a Pokemon of middling height approached into sight, fully focused on punching a nearby boulder. It was wearing a garment- almost unheard of for Pokemon- and appeared to have a rocky blue skin tone.

“Want to battle this Sawk?” Joe asked, turning to Akinai.

“No thanks,” Akinai replied, shaking her head. She had never even heard of a Sawk before, but it didn't look that interesting to her. Plus, she wanted to avoid fighting in the snow if possible; two of her three teammates wouldn't be able to fight at their fullest out here. “Just like before, if it tries to follow I still have a few Dolls on hand.”

“No thanks,” Akinai replied, shaking her head. Joe was surprised, Sawk was a powerful fighting Pokemon and very rare. There was one dude back in the headquarters that would pay a lot of money for one. Joe forgot the name however remembered he was always described as a bee. Akinai and Joe tiptoed around the fighting Pokemon hoping to flee without him knowing. However as they were tiptoeing, Joe kicked a rock which tumbled down the cliff side, making a distinguished noise.

Sawk quickly turned around and noticed the two humans and started to advance slowly. Akinai quickly grabbed a small PokeDoll from her bag and threw it towards the Sawk. Sawk glaced across and wondered what this strange object was. Joe grabbed Akinai's arm and dragged her away. If they were stuck in a battle with Sawk, Sawk always posed the threat of destroying them with his skill in karate and martial arts.

After running away, Joe and Akinai halted for a breather. Joe looked around and noticed a small cave up ahead, with light shinning through from the other side. They advanced towards the cave however as they were about to enter, a huge Pokemon leaped down from above. "Maachookkee," cried the Machoke.

Joe turned his head to Akinai and asked, "Do you want to battle this Machoke?"

Even though Joe appeared to be surprised by Akinai's response, the Ranger still attempted to lead them past the Sawk, who was still absorbed in his training exercise. Unfortunately, a stray rock loosened from the earth and fell off of the path, making a a very noticeable noise and it tumbled down.

The Fighting-type immediately turned around to face the sound, and looked directly towards the group. Abandoning his punching for now, he walked purposefully forward towards them.

Akinai quickly tossed a random Doll forward, not checking which one it was this time as the toy left her grasp. She didn't manage to see what it was afterwords as well, for Joe had grabbed her arm and was trying to guide her away from the area as fast as possible. Either Sawk was actually a pretty powerful Pokemon, or her Ranger thought standing right on the outer rim of the path was dangerous. Either way, they managed to leave the distracted wild Pokemon behind.

Their next destination appeared to be a cave, one quite unlike the one she had battled Mienfoo in earlier. It was much smaller for one, with the exit plainly on the other side. Before they could check it out, another Fighting-type had appeared to block their path. It let out a drawn-out cry, then appeared to look at both of them dismissively.

“Do you want to battle this Machoke?” Joe asked Akinai.

Akinai replied silently with another shake of her head, getting ready to use yet another Doll. While she was glad to see that her Ice Repellent was working perfectly so far, she was still hoping to run into more interesting Pokemon.
