    OOC: @Airik; You need Natures on your Pokemon. Please include them in an OOC section at the start of your post.

    ~~~~~
    I sat in the Woods Outpost, listening to some idiotic bureaucrat warble at me through our shitty internet connection. We had a huge load of Pokemon coming to the Park via boat and even though the National Park was officially classified as a non-profit organisation by the Government, a dock official was trying to get us to pay fees for using their waterspace in transit. We weren't even stopping in at their harbor and yet this guy was trying to extort us. It's not like the Park had any excess money - in fact, it was usually the opposite. The only way we made ends meet was by (in my opinion) overcharging Trainers for the items in the Park store.
    My PDA buzzed and I threw a quick glance at it. A message from Ivy was on the screen. Just sent a Trainer up to the Woods. Feel like taking him? It wasn't a request, but I was more than happy to do as she said for a change. Normally Ivy would give me runs when she felt I was slacking off but it was just good luck I'd actually been doing work this time.
    "Excuse me sir, but my time listening to your squawking is up," I said quickly.
    The man on the opposite end fell silent.
    "It's like this," I explained in my most reasonable tone. "We're not going to give you any money. Feel free to try and stop our ship from going through your waters but I have a helicopter stacked with dual miniguns that each fire two hundred reasons not to fuck with me per second."
    "What's your name? Who is your superior?" the clerk demanded.
    "My name is Dick, as in Go Spin on One," I replied. "My superior is Ivy Frost, though. Feel free to contact her if you need anything. I'm pretty sure her dick is way bigger than mine anyway."
    I dropped the phone onto its cradle, cutting communication. I allowed myself a small smile - that'd teach Ivy to try and stop me from being lazy. Now she'd have to deal with that arse-pain bureaucrat. On the other hand, she'd probably tear him a new one worse than I did. I didn't like being acerbic like that but some people just brought it out of me. Hopefully this upcoming Trainer would put me in better spirits.
    [ooc: HI :D ok so Adamant for Infernape and Modest for Volcarona, I would also like it if i had a chance to respond to your next post before you give me an encounter as i would like to use a voice disk straight from the start - however if you wanted feel free to RP me doing that and go straight for the first encounter - either way up to you i don't mind so long as i get to do that (Bearing in mind the Carnivine disk is currently in the player) ]
    It was sunday. Airik liked Sunday’s as it was his day off. The Eterna City Gym which he ran was closed, and it afforded him a chance to work on personal goals. Airik’s plan for the day was an outing to the National Park with the aim of catching a Carnivine. The Bug Catcher Pokemon as it was more commonly known was the only Grass type Pokemon outside of the Kalos region that Airik didn’t possess.
    Airik stumbled out of bed dazed and confused as usual for having just woken up, and with his hair disheveled and his head facing the ground shuffled towards the bathroom. Catching a glimpse of himself in the mirror above the sink Airik emitted a small groan in recognition of his appearance.
    Roughly an hour later Airik emerged from the bathroom having performed the vital three S’s. Shit, Shower and Shave; the morning ritual seemed to have inject some semblance of life into the Gym Leader as he now took several spritely steps down the corridor of his home towards the kitchen.
    He was dressed in his usual garb, A pair of baggy large cargo trousers utilitarian with plenty of pockets for storage. A royal blue t-shirt with a generic lime green design on it over which he wore a white laboratory coat. Most people thought that was odd until it was explained that Airik’s first calling in life was as a Scientist and Researcher.
    Airik was a Botanical Anatomist by trade. A Scientist who was primarily interested in the fusion of pokemon anatomy and plant systems. This made Airik a specialist primarily in Grass Type pokemon and precisely the reason why he wanted to catch a Carnivine today.
    Once in his kitchen Airik grappled with the concept of food and decided what he wanted to make for himself. He finally settled on some soup and a sandwich. Chicken and Leek soup to be precise it was infact one of his favourite meals to have and on this cold november morning a perfect way to warm himself up before his upcoming adventure to the national park.
    After having eaten Airik grabbed his ever present bag and went through the contents making especially sure that he had packed the Pokeplayer and Voice disks. Grabbing the Pokeplayer he inserted the Carnivine disk ready for his arrival, and then continued to check off items from a mental check list the last of which was a single pokeball which he grasped firmly in his hand.
    Airik exited his house into the back garden and tossed the Pokeball up into the Air.
    “Exeggutor come on out” moments after Airik had shouted this a flash of red light was emitted from the mid air pokeball and seconds after that Exeggutor stood in front of him.
    “Hey Buddy” Airik said but the Psychic and Grass type seemed oblivious to its trainer and was happily staring directly at the sun basking in its rays. “I need you to take me to the National Park, to the woods” This time Airik gently shook Exeggutor and one of its faces seemed to nod in recognition before it closed its eyes. It appeared to be concentrating very hard as its features scrunched up to turn the egg shape face into a mass of wrinkles.
    Seconds passed and the world around them began to fade out of existence. This bit always made Airik’s stomach churn, and as the ground below their feet disappeared into an inky blackness the total absence of anything made Airik feel physically sick. only a second passed before a new scene started to fill in around them starting from the sky down. In what could be described as an instant Airik had teleported across a vast distance with the aid of his Exeggutor.
    After adjusting to the new space Airik got his bearings and returned Exeggutor to its pokeball pocketing it in his bag for his return trip. He began to take the small hike up towards the gates of the woods enclosure in the National park. As he approached he could see the ranger hut the small wooden shack wasn’t much to look at but it provided the Rangers with a place to rest and a few basic amenities chief among which was usually indoor plumbing.
    As Airik approached the shack he called a Hello and waited for a response
    Ranger Chainy
    OOC: @Airik; I went with what you initially suggested, just to be safe.
    ~~~~~

    I heard someone calling from outside the shack. I cursed and quickly threw my red jacket on before stumbling out. The Trainer that was waiting screamed "urban scientist": he wore a white lab coat, which was a dead give-away, but moreso than that all of his clothes were utilitarian and as ergonomic as possible. The sole concession to style was the lime green design on his shirt. I shook my head to wake up and walked over, extending for a handshake.

    "Hey there, my name is James, but I usually go by Chainy," I said, shaking his hand. "I'll be keeping an eye on you throughout this Expedition."

    My PDA buzzed and I quickly swiped it open to see the paperwork had come through. The registered Pokemon were an Infernape and a Volcarona. The Infernape I could have seen coming from a mile away: they were very popular because they were fast, powerful, easy to obtain and very versatile. The Volcarona was a different story, however. They were usually quite hard to train and catch, espcecially considering they evolved very late and completely changed their battle style upon evolution. My first thought was that this guy was a Fire-type Trainer, but I discarded that notion. Firstly, if he was a Fire-user, there'd be no reason for him to visit the Woods. Secondly, and more importantly, he just didn't throw off the right vibe. Fire-type Trainers were usually cocky and slightly up-themselves, like that Ryan fellow that Ivy seemed to have a bit of interest in.

    "Well, no time like the present to get started," I said, smacking my hands together. "Pop in any disks and apply any Repellants you have, and we'll get rolling."

    ooc: thats fine chainy

    @ChainReaction01

    A few moments later and Airik could see some movement from within the shack. A man appeared throwing a red jacket on over his clothes. He came down the steps from the ranger post and approached Airik

    "Hey there, my name is James, but I usually go by Chainy," Airik’s ranger said, shaking his hand. "I'll be keeping an eye on you throughout this Expedition."

    “Nice to meet you, I’m Airik although i expect you knew that already” he said nodding towards Chainy’s PDA.

    An instant later the PDA Buzzed, Airik knew from prior experience that this might be the paperwork concerning his park run being sent from the main office. Airik waited for the Ranger to finish fiddling with his PDA.

    A few more seconds past and Chainy seemed to be done with his paperwork however was giving Airik a considered glance. Probably trying to size up the trainer he was taking on his run.

    "Well, no time like the present to get started," Chainy said, smacking my hands together in eagerness Airik presumed. "Pop in any disks and apply any Repellants you have, and we'll get rolling."

    Airik grabbed the poke player and opened the lid to check the Carnivine disk was correctly in place before hitting the play button. The eerie call of The Bug Catcher Pokemon echoed around them reflected off of the thick trees. Airik motioned towards the main entrance.

    “Shall we?”

    OOC: @Airik;

    ~~~~~~
    At my suggestion the man pulled out a Pokeplayer and inserted a disk. After he pressed the play button the very distinctive, echoing call of a Carnivine began to emit from the machine's speakers. It was amazing how powerful the sound cound be considering the speakers' minimalist appearance. The call repeated once every twenty or so second, and in theory this would attract other Carnivine to us. Luckily for Airik, the Rangers often joked how disks appeared to have a much greater success rate than usual when I was around. I liked to tell them this was just because technology knew not to screw around with me.
    "Shall we?" Airik asked, waving his hand in the direction of the forest. I nodded and led him down the brown dirt path, which was starkly outlined against the green grass. The trees were all tall and covered in green leaves. There was perhaps fifteen metres at most between each tree, and as we got further and further in they would become even more clustered. The only exception to this rule was the path, which was one of the very few pieces of artificiality present here. It was possible for an Expedition to strike out on their own and find their own path amongst the trees, but only the path offered a hassle-free method of travel. Besides, we could always leave the path later on if we wanted to.
    I rolled my neck to try and keep it limber, and in doing so I realised that I couldn't even see the sky through the canopy of the trees. It was an almost claustrophobic feeling. I whisked my head back down to change my mind's track when I saw our first Wild Pokemon: an incredibly inauspicious one. Hanging from a branch which was right over the path was a white, roughly spherical Pokemon with spikes jutting out all over its body. It was connected to the branch by a single strand of silk, which caused the Pokemon to sway gently back and forth. A single red eye blazed out at us as if daring to ask why we were here.
    "Looks like we have a Cascoon to start our Expedition off," I said to Airik. "Any interest in one?"
    James led Airik down a winding dirt path. The forest was closing in around them with the canopy blocking out the majority of the sunlight. Shafts of daylight penetrated through the leaf covered ceiling to create spots of light on the ground. In the shafts you could see dust and dirt particles swirl around in a dance, as well as insects completing delicate mating rituals.
    It wasn’t long before Airik had encountered his first pokemon, a small spherical thing with spike like spines protruding from its carapace. Airik knew it was a Cascoon. The Cascoon was hanging from a single silken strand with it’s singular red eye watching for any sign of danger.
    "Looks like we have a Cascoon to start our Expedition off," James said to Airik. "Any interest in one?"
    it wasn’t one of the pokemon Airik was here for and and the prospect of trying to train a Cascoon didn’t exactly thrill him so he simply shook his head.
    “No I would like to simply move past it if we can, If not then I have the money for a pokedoll.” Airik reached into his trouser pocket and brought forth one of his pre prepared money clips with the right change for a Pokedoll.
    He then began to queue the next track on the Carnivine voice disk hoping that his next try to find the elusive Grass type was more successful than the last.
    Chainy if i fail the escape roll please just RP me handing over the cash and using the pokedoll and then move us onto our next encounter with me using the voice disk please and thank you.
    OOC: @Airik; escape failed, deduct $500 from stats please.
    ~~~~~

    It didn't take long at all for Airik to shake his head. “No I would like to simply move past it if we can. If not then I have the money for a PokeDoll,” he said.

    "This Cascoon looks pretty cheesed off," I agreed. "Might as well give it a doll, better to be safe than sorry. These little guys might not look powerful, but they can be mighty annoying when they want to. Pass me five hundred."

    Airik passed me a pre-folded clip of money. I nodded approvingly-nice idea, it was always a pleasure to travel with experienced Expeditioners-and placed a Rhydon-shaped doll on the ground in front of the Cascoon. It blinked a couple of times as if waiting for a trick. Finally, a small white thread shot out from one of the spikes on its body and attached itself to the top of the doll. The doll began rising into the air, suspended only by the string. I was glad that Airik had decided to buy the Cascoon off: I'd seen Trainers try to walk past them before and then suddenly find themselves glued to a tree by an abundance of sticky thread. I waved Airik on hastily: it would be best if we could get past the Cascoon before it grew bored with its new toy. Truth be told, I wasn't surprised that Airik hadn't wanted the Bug-type. They were incredibly common on the mainland, and furthermore their final evolution wasn't exactly a top-tier battler.

    I was lost in my thoughts and I nearly missed the long purple form that was slithering through the trees off to our right. The Ekans seemed quite interested in something that we couldn't see on the ground of the forest floor, and because of this it hadn't noticed us yet. I raised my pointer finger to my lips and then pointed at the snake Pokemon, asking Airik silently if he wanted to try capturing it. Ekans had actually become quite rare in the Woods as of late-I was a little worried that their population was dipping-but as we had Encountered one, the rules said I had to offer it as a capture.

    Airik handed over the money clip and the duo moved on leaving the Cascoon behind. The journey was silent and it wasn’t long before James seemed lost in his thoughts. Airik was happy to enjoy the walk.

    All of a sudden James seemed startled. Airik could see the ranger raising a finger to his lips and pointing towards the ground. That’s when Airik saw it, an Ekans. This wasn’t Airik’s first encounter with the snake like pokemon he had seen them before.

    He simply looked at James and gestured a no by shaking his head and reached for another of the pre prepared money clips. Just in case he should need it before again setting up the pokeplayer to play the next track on the Carnivine Voice disk.

    OOC: @Airik; No doll needed. Also, no thanks needed, especially as my posting speed is about to drop waaaaay down thanks to a special Dota 2 event >_>;

    ~~~~~
    Airik shook his head, indicating that he didn't want to try and capture the Poison-type. I was secretly thankful, and made a mental note to find out what exactly was happening with the Ekans population. The last thing we wanted was there being too few to sustain a viable population size. Airik pulled out another money clip and handed it out to me, but I shook my head. The Wild Pokemon hadn't seen us, so if we moved along quietly it would never know we were here. We moved on, being careful not to step on any crunchy-looking stones.
    I'd travelled the Woods a lot: certainly more so than most other Rangers. I knew that coming up in the next ten minutes or so was a fork in the path. One way led to the very inner parts of the Woods, where the Nidoking and the Amoonguss and all the other powerful Pokemon lived. The other way was a much more scenic trail that wound throughout the middle part of the forest. I normally advised the newbie Trainers to take the latter option, but Airik seemed pretty confident. I resolved to allow him the choice when we reached it.
    We weren't there yet, though. Just off to the side of the path was a small purple Pokemon that looked like a cross between a bug and a snake. It had large yellow eyes which were focused on the half-eaten apple it was happily munching. The way that its tail was kept stiff told me that the Pokemon knew we were there, but had decided not to care just yet. That was promising: it meant both battling it and leaving it alone were both completely viable options.
    "Well, how about it?" I asked the main who was following right behind me. "Feel like trying to catch a Venipede?"
    Airik was rather pleased that the duo had managed to avoid the Ekans so easily, although he saw buying pokedolls as a necessity and always planned for it he was grateful every time he didn't have to. James had been guiding them along one of the many paths for some time now and Airik was pleased with this particular area to the park for his first visit here it was nicer than he anticipated.
    A few moments later Airik’s heart sank as the realisation dawned on him that he just might not find a Carnivine this particular trip and he began to run through his mental checklist of alternative captures. At the top of that list where Scyther and Kecleon, then further down the list where Smeargle Joltik which he brought a voice disk for and a bonsly.
    There was however one other pokemon Airik would take back with him if he could it however was fairly common to these parts and he didn't feel the need to purchase a voice disk to ensure its capture.
    It wasn’t long at all before Airik and James had stumbled across the particular pokemon that Airik wanted. A Venipede, the Bug and Poison type pokemon wasn’t particularly large or threatening now but it evolved into Scolipede eventually and the large Megapede pokemon could be a frightening prospect.
    Well, how about it?" James asked turning to Airik who had been following right behind him. "Feel like trying to catch a Venipede?"
    “I sure do” Airik responded. He reached into his bag and selected a Pokeball. The perfect pokemon for the job or so Airik felt.
    “Come on out Volcarona.” In a red flash the Sun Pokemon emerged. Volcarona was a large moth like pokemon with four tiny feet and six large leaf like wings with an orange and red patternation to them.
    Airik had gotten Volcarona as a prize from his first ever real pokemon tournament. It was a small affair limited to new trainers only but they were still some of the toughest and funnest battles he had in his career as a trainer.
    Airik needed a plan in order to deal with the Venipede in a way that would allow him to safely capture it. The Grass type Gym Leader knew the best way to start would be to somehow incapacitate the Bug type Venipede.
    An idea struck Airik of the best way to proceed. “Volcarona use String shot” Airik knew the string would slow down the Venipede and make an easier target for a pokeball. “Now hit it with a Will O Wisp” The second part of Airiks plan this would cause a persistent injury to the Venipede and hopefully sap it of its will to fight.
    After that the third and final part of Airik’s plan was to have Volcarona use its signature move. “Use Fiery Dance” although this was risky because he could potentially knock out the opposing bug pokemon Airik had faith in his Volcarona’s ability to judge the strength of its attacks and adjust appropriately. The Sun Pokemon was not only highly Delicate and sensitive but intelligent as well.
    Both it and Airiks Infernape the other pokemon he brought into the park today knew that if they were used the intention would be to attempt to capture the opposing pokemon. Airik had explained it to the duo in as simple a way as he could.
    Airik felt the tension build in his stomach as he got prepared to capture his first pokemon in the woods area of the national park. He reached around inside his bag feeling around for the appropriate item and pulled out a Park ball. The small round ball was custom made for the national park and could only be used here.
    The smooth metallic sphere would be perfect for the task at hand, Airik pushed the center button and the ball enlarged to roughly 3 times its normal size. He waited for the most opportune moment possible before winding back and throwing the Park Ball over arm towards the Venipede hoping to capture it.
    A wave of tension building rising ever higher as the Park ball grew closer to the venipede Airik was just waiting for the wave to crash over him in a crescendo of relief hoping to have captured the small Bug type Pokemon
    I realise I’m 39 characters short of the MCR for capture but im going to risk it anyway because ya know what any more filler and this will just be total shit
    OOC @Airik; Male or Female?
    ~~~~~

    "I sure do," Airik replied. I was only slightly surprised: although Venipede themselves were quite weak and they were about as common as Caterpie and Wurmple, their final evolution was quite a fearsome battler. It was occasionally employed in the top-tier tournaments as an entry hazard remover and it could also sweep quite easily. Catching one as a Venipede meant that Airik would be able to raise the Scolipede as he saw fit, in addition to the actual capture itself being much less of a struggle.

    Airik quickly pulled out a PokeBall and summoned his Pokemon. A bright white flare revealed the very distinctive form of his Volcarona - a large, mostly red moth that seemed to put out almost as much heat as the sun. I was instantly worried that such a powerful Pokemon would be too strong for a mere Venipede to battle against, but I was sure that Airik knew was he was doing. The Volcarona didn't seem to greet her Trainer or challenge the Venipede to battle - indeed, it simply hovered in front of its Trainer, beating its wings slowly, waiting for battle commands. It did not have to wait long. Airik commanded the Sun Pokemon to start off with a String Shot. A veritable shotgun blast of sticky white web shot out from the Volcarona and struck the Venipede, sticking it to the ground. The Wild Pokemon squealed in protest as the sudden action knocked its food away. It tried to turn around to face its opponent but the string was impeding its movement.

    "Now, hit it with a Will-o-Wisp," Airik said. Many small balls of fire began to circle around it, and after a couple of seconds they all flew towards the Venipede. There was no way that they weren't going to hit, seeing as the Venipede was immobilised like it was. The Will-o-Wisp attack hit the Venipede like a machine gun, and caused what were undoubtedly very painful burns all over its squat body. There was a side effect that Airik hadn't considered, though: the fire attack burnt the String Shot away. The Wild Pokemon acted quickly: it spun around and shot a single needle at its opponent. The needle was dull purple and a small glistening trail of liquid marked its path as it flew. The needle hit the lower part of the Volcarona's thorax, but the Fire-type didn't seem to notice.

    "Use Fiery Dance," Airik commanded. Again, I was worried that he was going to over-do it but I had a feeling that the Volcarona had a very capture-conducive Nature. Fire welled up around the Volcarona and it started moving gracefully from side to side. The fire expanded outwards as it did so, knocking the Venipede backwards. A couple patches of grass were set on fire, but thankfully the trees' bark was tough enough to resist the flames.

    Acting quickly, Airik pulled a Park Ball out and enlarged it before throwing it at the Venipede. The capture device made solid contact with the Poison-type and started to jiggle around. It moved for only a couple seconds before emitting a faint light. I walked over and picked the ball up.

    "Congratulations, that was a pretty easy first capture," I said. I noticed that the Volcarona's wings were starting to beat erratically. The needle fell onto the ground and made a strangely delicate sound when it hit the path. This was almost immediately followed by a hissing noise as the poison inside the needle started to eat away at the dirt. I threw a quick look at the Trainer I was escorting. "You should probably heal your Volcarona before the poison does too much damage," I said. "Either that or return it to its ball, it won't take any more damage in there thanks to the stasis dampeners."

    The fun didn't end there, though: I saw behind the Volcarona a small dark blue Pokemon that had been watching the entire battle. It was roughly spherical but with jagged edges and bright red eyes. The Pokemon was watching us carefully from on top of a tree branch. For all I knew, it had been a friend of the Venipede that Airik had just captured.

    "I don't suppose you want a Pineco?" I asked him.

    Airik was really pleased with the result of the battle with venipede as predicted Volcarona knew just the right amount of power to successfully reduce the health of the opposing bug type to make it an easier capture.

    "Congratulations, that was a pretty easy first capture," James Said to Airik.
    The Grass trainer merely smiled he too was pleased with the ease of the capture.

    "You should probably heal your Volcarona before the poison does too much damage," James said said. "Either that or return it to its ball, it won't take any more damage in there thanks to the stasis dampeners."

    Airik simply noded towards his ranger and retrieved Volcarona’s pokeball. “Volcarona Return” Airik shouted and a beam of light shot from the ball and enveloped the Sun Pokemon and in an instant it was gone returned to the ball.

    As the duo of trainer and ranger turned around to carry on their woodland trek James pointed out the shape of a pineco that had been watching the battle unfold. "I don't suppose you want a Pineco?”James said.

    “No” Airik Replied “I would like to move on and see what else we can find deeper in the woods” with that Airik readied a money clip prepared to hand it over should he need to purchase a pokedoll to distract the Pineco and enable his escape.

    While James analyzed there boost route around the bug type Airik queued up the last track on his Pokeplayer hoping that this time he would find a Carnivine.

    Lets take a male Venipede since most of my bug types seem to be female. Also same again with escaping if need be RP me buying the doll and lets hope i get carnivine this time.

    OOC: @Airik; Sorry buddy, maybe next time.

    ~~~~~
    "No, I would like to move on and see what else we can find deeper in the woods," Airik replied. I nodded, and wasn't surprised. Forretress was a very niche pick these days, what with the much wider availability of leads than in the past. There was also the rather large weakness to Fire-type moves, which meant that Forretress tended to melt when exposed to even the weakest flames. I was very curious as to what kind of Pokemon Airik was here to catch. Most Trainers usually came in for either a single species of hard-to-catch Pokemon or to try and capture as many of a single type as possible. Airik's Carnivine disk had initially painted the picture of a Grass specialist, but then he'd captured the Venipede.
    Speaking of the disk, it warbled out one last call before dying. "Must be out of energy," I commented. If the next Encounter wasn't a Carnivine, Airik would be out of luck. We continued along the path, breathless in anticipation. Finally, we heard a loud buzzing and I knew that Airik wasn't going to get the Pokemon he had hoped for. Still, what was coming our way was fairly rare, and not uncommonly used in the professional leagues. It had access to one of the best Abilities known and was seen as a huge check to Psychic-types, which were generally rampant throughout all of the battling tiers.
    Sure enough, just like I had predicted, a Yanmega buzzed down from the treetops. It watched us curiously with its huge red eyes, showing no fear whatsoever. It didn't really have to be fearful: it could outrun pretty much any threat I could think of. Yanmega itself evolved using knowledge of ancient DNA replication, becoming the same size and sturdiness as a prehistoric insect. If Airik wanted to try and capture it, he'd have a real fight on his hands.
    "So, wanna try to capture this Yanmega?" I asked him. "Speed Boost is a pretty sweet ability..."
    James guided Airik passed the Pineco and they continued on their way through the woods. Airiks Pokeplayer made one last triumphant effort to bark out the call of carnivine before the sound faded off into a distant memory.
    "Must be out of energy," James said.
    Airik could do nothing now but follow James and hope for a chance encounter with a Carnivine. It wasn’t long before James became alerted to a loud buzzing sound, Airik could hear it too. His Heart sank he knew that this made finding a Carnivine entirely unlikely.
    The Yanmega buzzed its way down from the treetops and descended into their midst with a look of curiosity. It had large red eyes that displayed not the tiniest hint of fear, not that a Yanmega ever had much to fear they were fortunate enough to be among one of the fastest Pokemon and on top of that blessed with the Speed Boost Ability. They could potentially outrun anything that got near them.
    "So, wanna try to capture this Yanmega?"James asked Airik. "Speed Boost is a pretty sweet ability..."
    “Indeed it is, Did you know that venipede native to the Kalos region are known to possess it too. I happen to have access to a female Venipede from Kalos with the Speed Boost Ability. The one i caught earlier is going to form part of a breeding pair.” Airik replied.
    “With that in mind i think i’ve had my fill of Speed Boosting pokemon this visit” Airik reached inside his pocket and produced another money clip. “Incase i need to buy a pokedoll to escape this prehistoric insect.”
    Meanwhile Airik exchanged the disks in the pokeplayer inserting his Joltik disk and checking it was queued up correctly and working.
    "Indeed it is," Airik replied. "Did you know that venipede native to the Kalos region are known to possess it too? I happen to have access to a female Venipede from Kalos with the Speed Boost Ability. The one I caught earlier is going to form part of a breeding pair."
    "Ah, that would explain why you caught that one."
    Airik pulled out a money clip and handed it to me. "With that in mind I think I’ve had my fill of Speed Boosting Pokemon this visit. In case I need to buy a Pokedoll to escape this prehistoric insect."
    As soon as he said that, however, the Yanmega flew straight off. It was almost as if the bug had known that Airik wasn't interested and so had left us unmolested. I could help but think with a lopsided grin if only all Pokemon in the National Park were that reasonable...
    Airik deposited the money back into his pocket and opened up his Pokeplayer. The disc inside was steaming slightly, but otherwise seemed unharmed. A small light on the inside of the machine was blinking red, which indicated that the DNA charge inside the disc had run out. If there was still remaining charge, that light would have been pulsating green. Airik took the Carnivine disk out and replaced it with a second one. It snapped neatly into place and he closed the audio player up again. He pressed the play button and the device immediately started emitting the quiet but high-pitched call of a Joltik. First Grass types, then Poison types, and now an Electric-type? Airik certainly was an interesting Trainer.
    "Alright, time for us to move on," I said.
    Before we could actually do so, however, a Pokemon lumbered out of the trees and onto the path. Its circular ears were twitching, and I knew it had been summoned by the voice disk, even if it wasn't a Joltik. It looked at us through its squinty little eyes and bellowed a challenge from its huge, open mouth.
    "I don't suppose you wanted a Loudred?" I asked Airik, taking a step back as I prepared to run.
    Airik was surprised when the Yanmega flew off, they had a reputation for being aggressive pokemon. Not that he was complaining less money spent on dolls ment more one park balls in the future.
    Airik played the Pokeplayer and waited for a Joltik to appear, after about ten or so minutes James spoke "Alright, time for us to move on.”
    Airik was disappointed he had a feeling that neither disc would reward him with the pokemon he wanted. Packing the Pokeplayer away Airik prepared to move on further down the woodland trail when a lumbering Loudred muscled its way from between the trees disturbing a rather large amount of shrubbery as it went.
    It stared at the duo with its squinty little eyes and bellowed as loud as a challenge as it could. Maybe Loudred had been attracted by the Joltik disc and had came looking for a battle. Sadly it wouldn’t find one here today as Airik wasn’t interested in catching this bellowing behemoth.
    "I don't suppose you wanted a Loudred?" James asked Airik, as he took a step back as if preparing to run.
    Airik noted his stance and got the sense that this Pokemon wouldn’t simply walk away from them now it had challenged them. Considering his options he knew that infernape would do wonders against it should he need to fight.
    “No, I don’t and i think that we are going to have to run to escape it, so if you wanna use a doll as a distraction feel free. I will sort out the money once we’re safe,” Airik said getting ready to set off in a sprint down the trail.
    "I don't think that's necessary," I replied in a low tone of voice. "These things have stubby legs and so are easy to out-run. Leg it!"
    We both tore past the Loudred, continuing on down the path. We heard the Normal-type's angry roars for a good five minutes afterwards, and I wasn't sure whether this was due to us being chased or simply the Pokemon's incredible vocal prowess. Either way, after five minutes of running we stopped to catch our breath. The roars slowly got fainter and fainter and I became positive that we'd managed to escape. I sat down heavily against a thick tree trunk, gasping slightly. While I was reasonably fit, I could be considered chubby by Ranger standards. I usually copped a lot of flack from Dual for this.
    As I regained my breath, I looked around the area. The fork was not far off from here, a few minutes perhaps. We were definitely getting further into the Woods: there was lots more shrubbery and the trees were much thicker. I noticed that a particular bush on the other side of the path was rustling slightly, and inside it I could just make out the form of a small Pokemon. It appeared rabbit-like, but with a fairly large horn. After squinting a little bit, I could just make out flashes of bright purple as the Pokemon wriggled around inside the bush.
    "Feel like a male Nidoran?" I asked Airik.
    Airik and James had managed to escape from the Loudred after a short sprint, which was fortunate because Airik although slim was not fond of exercise. He decided that had he had to go for another fifty meters he would of collapsed then and there and let the Loudred do what it wanted to him.
    Both Airik and James stopped and panted and tried to catch their breath, the road was lined with thicker trees and heavy shrubs. Seconds after Airik had stopped gasping for breath he began to notice a bush rustling slightly further down the line.
    The pokemon that could be seen peeking out of the bush was a small rabbit like pokemon with a large horn. It was Bright Purple in colour and seemed fixated on the berries in the branches of the bush
    "Feel like a male Nidoran?" James asked?
    “No……Don't…….Want…..Nidoran” Airik said still struggling for breath a little bit
    Airik seemed to be faring slightly better than myself: even though he was panting hard, he had at least remained standing where I had collapsed against the side of a tree. Inbetween gasps for air, the Trainer made it clear that he wasn't interested in trying to catch a Nidoran. Again, I was not surprised: not only were both Nidoran genders prevalent on the mainland, but they required an inordinate amount of training to evolve, with the final evolution requiring a Moon Stone, which were rare and expensive. Still, that just made them all the more powerful, and Chainy had heard Jakk talk about one of the Unova Gym Leaders blasting her way through the Gym Leader Conference last year using her Nidoking's Sheer Force.
    Luckily for Airik, the Nidoran seemed to have about as much interest in us as we did in it. It rustled around a bit more before bounding off deeper into the forest. I took another minute to catch my breath before standing up and readjusting my pack. It normally rested comfortably in the small of my back, but the running had dislodged it slightly.
    "Are you ready to move on?" I asked Airik. He nodded in response and we took off on a leisurely stroll. The forest was much more alive in here: I could hear all kinds of chirping and screeches, and there was much less sunlight present which meant that one could really appreciate the mystery of life. In fact, I was just starting to enjoy pondering the absolute whys of the universe when a large brown Pokemon landed on the path right in front of it. It was mostly circular, but had long powerful limbs that displayed toned muscles. It was jumping up and down angrily and I instinctively knew not to look into its eyes.
    "Airik, if you don't want to catch this Primeape, I suggest you give it a doll," I hissed.
    Airik was relieved when the Nidoran just bounded off into the brush. Taking a moment longer to catch his breath Airik prepared his stuff and was again ready to head down the trail.
    "Are you ready to move on?" James asked Airik. He nodded in response and the two took off on a leisurely stroll down one of the woodland paths. It wasn’t long before Airik noticed the increase noise. He could hear the pokemon all around him and this gave him hope for finding the Joltik he so desired.
    A large brown pokemon landed in front of the duo much to AIriks surprise. He instantly recognised it as a Primeape it had long limbs with well toned muscles on display for all to see its strength. Fighting pokemon often compared muscles to establish some sort of pecking order.
    "Airik, if you don't want to catch this Primeape, I suggest you give it a doll," James hissed.
    Airik kept staring at his feet so as to not anger the Primeape and grabbed one of the money clips from an inside pocket and handed it over.
