"I don't really want to catch it, but it can tag along if it wants." Siless said. i just groaned. There was no way another Pokemon would just follow like that idiot Sunkern did, and if they tried to, I would shoo them away. "Do you know where any Pokémon are that sound like this?" I wasn't sure why he was asking this Roselia. She didn't seem like she'd be much help.

Roselia just turned the other way and walked off. She jumped over a bush and disappeared. I was hoping for a battle, but we were going to have to look somewhere else if we wanted that to happen. We walked down the grass path until we across another open field. This one though, had nice trimmed grass and some small dirt mounds, probably from Durant. I heard they were being forced to migrate towards Deckbi for dumb reasons. Something about Heatmor not getting enough food. I thought it was pretty harsh to do that to Durant colonies here, but I couldn't stop them.

On top of one of the mounds, I saw a small Skitty. I knew the ant mound had to be empty, or else Durant would be coming out and attacking that small feline. I looked over to Siless. "Want to battle this one?"

I didn't particularly want the Skitty either. Well, I did, but… it would be way too much of a distraction. (There was a reason Sela and I never had a cat-Pokémon, and that involved being completely distracted when one was around. We grew past that, but…)

"Getting a Skitty," I started, "is not conducive to our goals." I had to look away from the kitten Pokémon, as did Sela. She knew very well why I wasn't jumping on this opportunity.

"Let's go Rex. Now." I used my hat to block the view of the Skitty; I didn't want it following, and I didn't want to let myself get distracted. "Go and see that Lilligant… and maybe catch something that isn't a cat."

"Getting a Skitty," Siless said, "is not conducive to our goals." He didn't look at the Pokemon when he said that, I wasn't sure why. I would probably go for this one. Captureing it would probably be profitable for me for those contest freaks like Buoysel. If not I'm sure Cameron would like one of those.

"Let's go Rex. Now." He said. I hated when people ordered me around, especially Leo, but since I wanted to get out of this run as fast as possible, I ignored it for now. He played his voice disk again and then the Skitty left. We waited for a few moments, but nothing happened and nothing came. It was probably because we weren't in the right area. I wasn't quite sure where they liked to hang out, but we had to pass by it soon.

When I was sure no Petlil was coming our way, I began moving again. As we moved farther down the path, I saw a small, white, round shape on the ground. I was about to walk over and pick it up, when a large, pink, egg shaped Pokemon. It was a Chansey, and that was the small egg like thing it carried around. I looked over to Siless.

"Want to battle this Pokemon?" I asked, it was a quite rare find.

Sela filled a medic-type role on my team. Granted, she was a very capable combatant, but I always had her available and she took it upon herself to make sure the rest of the team was in top shape with moves such as Heal Bell and Heal Pulse, possibly at the expense of her own health. Chansey would be filling such a role as well if I got one, only without the combat capabilities Sela has. If I was going to get something to take or share that role in my team, it would be because Sela wanted it (because you don't anger your team medic, nor do you anger anything reasonably powerful with direct access to one's mind…)

Honestly, Sela probably wouldn't do any of that stuff. It was still a matter of trust though. I decided to leave the Chansey alone.

My Petilil disk had stopped playing, and I recognized that playing it any more wouldn't produce any desirable effect. With that, and a message from the Ranger HQ saying that there were a few changes going on in the park, I didn't have too much of a reason to stay on the run for too much longer. A couple of encounters couldn't hurt for the most part, though, and we could work back towards the outpost while doing them so that I could exchange my trainer supplies for my ranger ones and get back to my job.

"I'll pass on the Chansey," I told Rex. "Think it's a good idea to start working back towards the outpost? Maybe find something along the way, but these changes they're talking about could be big."

I left one of the Pokédolls from my pack down for the Chansey. At least then I was certain it wouldn't follow.

"I'll pass on the Chansey," Sylvester said, tossing a doll towards Chansey, similar to the way Cameron throws them at Pokemon when he's looking for particular Pokemon and tries to speed through. "Think it's a good idea to start working back towards the outpost? Maybe find something along the way, but these changes they're talking about could be big." Chansey took off with the doll in its hands. He was letting a rare Pokemon get away. I would have caught it just to sell it. Like Skitty, Chansey would be a good Contest Pokemon and could be sold for a lot of money.

"If you say so Sylvester. I heard Petlil where further in, but since you want to head back already, we'll do that. Can't change your mind now." I quickly responded. With that, I led Sylvester towards the gate. However, as usual, more Pokemon got in our way before we even got a quarter of the way towards the gate. A small purple and red flower like Pokemon with a Cherri Berry on the end came towards us. I just groaned. These Pokemon just kept coming like pests. I'd been on runs where hardly any Pokemon were found, it was nice and easy. Then again, I just loved to complain.

"Do you want to battle this Cherubi, Sylvester?" I asked him. I didn't expect him to, so I prepared myself to leave.

This time, a Cherubi blocked the way. With the recent harsh sunlight in Celadon, it could actually be useful in the gym. Maybe.

At least it fit with my collection. I had no clue how a Cherrim fights, and knowing that is… well, I probably should know that anyways. And what better way is there than to raise one?

"I'll have a go at it. Shouldn't take too long." I grabbed the second Pokéball on my belt, and tossed it into the field. "Cosmos, you're up!"

Out of the bright flash of the Pokéball emerged a masquerading rose with "hands" of red and blue. She was one of my key Grass-type fighters, able to pull out massive damage with supposedly weak attacks. When focusing on this power, she sacrificed her natural poisonous touch and her ability to recover her status after being tagged out of battle, but Technician was her preferred ability, allowing her to use her ranged attacks to excellent effect; she'd be staying out of the range that Poison Point could activate anyways, and she'd be able to avoid the attacks that cause the status that Natural Cure recovers her from.

"Cosmos, hold your opponent back with Toxic Spikes." Cosmos unleashed a wise spray of purple caltrops over the field. They themselves barely dealt any damage; at most, the opponent felt a sharp prick that faded almost instantly. The real threat was from the poison the spikes were covered in. Poison and Steel-types were immune to the effects of it, but everything else would start taking gradual damage, letting Cosmos sit back and pelt her opponent at a distance while it gets weaker and weaker. This was of the most use in the longest of battles, something wild Pokémon didn't tend for, but it also aided in the capture of Pokémon, as the poison inhibited the Pokémon's ability to resist capture.

"Now pelt it with Magical Leaf!" Multicolored leaves blasted out of Cosmos's bouquets. The move was insanely accurate, and it was powered up by Technician, though I knew if I relied solely on the supposed "sure-hit" status of the move it would come back and bite me. The main reason I wanted the attack to go off was to get Cherubi to start moving; the more it moved, the more likely it ran into the spikes set out for it.

"I'll have a go at it. Shouldn't take too long." He said, sounding a bit overconfident. "Cosmos, you're up!" A small green and white Pokemon with a bouquet in her hands emerged. "Cosmos, hold your opponent back with Toxic Spikes." Roserade immediately extended her hands and shot out several purple spikes that disappeared into the ground. "Now pelt it with Magical Leaf!" I knew Roserade had the Technician ability, that helped with moves that weren't too powerful, making them powerful. It was a quite handy ability.

Cherubi formed several light purple colored around her body and launched them at Roserade. The small orbs appeared to hurt the Grass/Poison Pokemon. It wasn't enough to keep her down, she began levitating seveal sharp sided leaves and heaved them towards Cherubi. The leaves slammed into the Cherry Pokemon, knocking her down into some of the spikes. I saw the red Cherubi turn a shade of purple and knew it was poisoned. The small Grass type Pokemon cried out in pain, but I knew it still had some fight left in her. She didn't seem like much of a battler, but she could still pose a threat if taken lightly.

After an exchange of blows, Cosmos seemed to be on top in the battle, if only slightly; Cherubi was poisoned, but it seemed neither Pokémon was too wounded by the single exchange. Even with Cosmos's Technician boosting her Magical Leaf, it was still a Grass-type move, and it wouldn't do too much damage to the Cherubi with its resistance and Magical Leaf's low damage capabilities. The Cherry Pokémon struck first with a move I didn't immediately recognize; I assumed it was Hidden Power, the move that has a form unique to each Pokémon that uses it. The color told me that it was a Poison-type attack, though I also recognized that Hidden Power wasn't always a color that "matched" its typing. What it told me for sure was that Cherubi was able to hit with Special attacks without having to resort to a greatly-resisted Grass-type attack, and that opened Cherubi's options.

Cherubi was a pure Grass-type Pokémon, which mean Cosmos had a type advantage with her Poison-type attacks, but she only had two offensive Poison-type moves available. Under normal circumstances, if I needed a Poison-type damage move, I used Sludge Bomb; it was powerful, toxic, and hard to avoid. The problem was that catching Pokémon was not a normal battle. I had to keep in mind that my target would be unavailable if I knocked it out, so I had to weaken my target instead of wiping it out. Sludge Bomb was too powerful for a Cherubi that has already taken a blow in the battle, and I had one option left for a type advantage.

"Cosmos, spray Cherubi with a Poison Sting attack!" The attack was a wide spray of poisonous needles. it certainly wasn't the strongest move, but combined with Technician, it would hopefully deal more than enough damage for an easy capture.

The Bouquet Pokémon launched the wide arc of white needles. The spray seemed like it would be hard to avoid, though I also knew that as a smaller Pokémon Cherubi had a chance to "sneak through the cracks", so to speak. I wasn't taking my time here; in a rush, I drew a park ball and threw it before seeing the end result of the Poison Sting. I supposed that a failed capture would still be disorientating for the Cherubi, if it didn't work.

"Cosmos, spray Cherubi with a Poison Sting attack!" Siless called out. With Cherubi being a pure Grass type, a Poison attack from Roserade was going to do a lot of damge for a number of reasons. Before the attack could hit though, Siless took out a Parkball and heaved the ball before Cherubi even got hit by the attack.

As the Poison Sting attack inched closer to the Grass type, Cherubi started charging up another attack. It was futile though because the Poison Sting hit Cherubi hard, and seconds after, the Parkball sucked the Cherry Pokemon in. The ball wiggled twice and then remained motionless on the ground. I walked over and picked it up.

"Well, that was quick. Congradulations." I said. "Let me know when you're ready to move on."

"Ready whenever you are." I figured there could be one more Pokémon at most before we got back to the gate. It left over half of what I could potentially encounter in the run missed, but it would give me more time to work with my new Pokémon and let them get acquainted to life outside of the wild.

"Come on back, Cosmos. Rest up a bit." My Roserade was converted to the light that formed her when I originally called her out for battle. I set the ball on my belt, ready in case the next battle needed her skills. It wasn't much, but I was as prepared as I'd end up getting for the short trip back.

"Ready whenever you are." He said, pulling out a Pokeball. "Come on back, Cosmos. Rest up a bit." I looked around the area. I didn't see any other Pokemon he could battle, so I figured we'd head back to the gate and see what other Pokemon we would come across. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be a Petlil like he wanted, but maybe we would find something that he'd find interesting. I wasn't sure what else he was looking for though, whatever it was, it hopefully would come soon.

"Well, I gues we can see what else comes our way." I said, shrugging my shoulders. I just stayed on the path we were on. We walked down it until we came across another Pokemon. This one was really nice smelling. The aroma she gave off smelt heavenly.

"Bayleef!" She cried out. She had one large, light green leaf on her head.

"Interested in battling this Pokemon?" I asked Siless.

A Bayleef appeared to be the final Pokémon on the way; by the time I ran into it, the outpost was already visible. I still hadn't made my decision on whether I ever wanted a Meganium, but I knew they were incredibly common back home. I was just about done with my run, and even though I only had two Pokémon captured, I wanted to get back to my job.

"I actually think I'm ready to wrap things up here, Rex. Get back to work and such." I started towards the outpost, ready to exchange my trainer gear for my ranger equipment. It was about time I got started on working again.
