"Dude, take this run." Rex grumbled.

"Why would I, take your own shit." I replied.

"Because if you don't, I'll tell everyone your little secret." He grinned.

"Fuck off, I don't even care." I said, turning to go back into my office.

"Oh really, hey Buzzard, get out of the kitchen and come over here." He called out smugly.

"Fine bitch, give me that file." I grumbled, snatching it from his hands. I opened it and looked at who I was taking. "Argent huh, he's a Ranger here, he should just take himself."

"Let's go Lickitron, we're being forced on this run." I moaned. Lickitron licked my face and chuckled. "Yeah yeah, I know you want to go on runs, but I was busy doing something else. Damn Rex, I'll get him back." I pushed him on my way out to the field. "Argent should be there already waiting for us."

The walk there took about thirty minutes, I wasn't really in the mood to get there on time. I saw Argent waiting by the gate, glancing at his watch. "Okay, sorry. I'm here." I called out. Lickitron was about to lick him, but I stopped him. "I'm Alex and I'll be taking you through. Let me know when you're ready to go."

Argent, who was in fact a Ranger at the Park himself, was doing some paperwork as he usually did. It was extremely stuffy within the outpost he was working at that day, though, so he wanted to get out of the office into the clear air. He couldn't come up with a solution, and he didn't see any new runs for offer while he checked on his computer or frequently with the woman on duty for sorting runs that came in by mail and handing them out to the staff. Other Rangers were also feeling the heat of the office, but Argent didn't give much thought to them - while not usually a selfish person, he was far too distracted by the heat of the outpost to give any number of craps. He already had the fan on his desk working at full blast, but it wasn't really enough - the constant whirring of it was distracting as well... but then he had an idea for himself, something that could get him out of the office and away into the wilderness of the National Park. He wondered why he had never thought of it before.

He could go on a run for his own benefit, instead of taking someone else. Of course, Rangers actually did have that liberty, seeing as they were just as much entitled to go through the Park as any person who didn't actually work for the establishment. He sighed peacefully as he whirled his mouse around the computer screen, quickly entering in some details about the run, where he wanted to go (he chose Meteor Valley, since he had never been there before) and quickly waited for approval, which came. He also saw it had been claimed soon after it had gone through - likely some other ranger was willing to get out of their office to avoid trouble or heat or something alike to that. Argent stuffed his belongings in his satchel, including the items he was bringing on the run, of course, and then made for the door. He clacked his tongue slightly, which was an alarm to Chimey to start following him. Chimey was his loyal Chimecho companion, who had been through most of his life with him, through all the thick and thins and their relationship together had been pushed to the edge more than enough.

While they were moving on, Argent got Chimey to contact Assan and Mortifex (a Floatzel and Dusknoir respectively). Both of them were heading to Meteor Valley at top speed, and Argent wanted to get there pretty quickly, too. The road was quite long for driving, so Argent didn't know how he was going to get there in time to meet his ranger. Chimey dipped back inside the outpost and led out another Pokémon - an Abra, which Argent recognised as a Pokémon whom belonged to another staff member of the National Park - he supposed that the Abra would simply teleport him there, and he was right. Grasping Abra's hand while Chimey took the opposite, Abra closed his eyes and Argent shimmered into nothingness, but in fact was flying through space in a most uncomfortable manner - he felt like he was being forced through a tube ten times too small for him, but then after a split-second he found he could breathe freely, as he was standing in the open air just by the entrance to Meteor Valley. Edging closer to the gate, he waited for his Ranger. Abra disappeared again after seeing both of them had arrived safely.

Assan and Mortifex arrived a few minutes after their trainer, and both started playing tag with each other - which was kind of redundant, seeing as Mortifex kept making himself insubstantial so that Assan's sharp claws simply passed through him, not touching him at all. Assan was indignantly complaining in Pokémon language that this was cheating, but Mortifex would hear none of it.

    ***

Twenty-five minutes after Argent had arrived, his Ranger appeared, walking down the path. Argent had just been checking his watch as his Ranger first spotted him, and he looked up. Cracking into a large smile as he saw his Ranger, he waited patiently for the Ranger to get closer. Argent was about to launch conversation when the Ranger talked to him first. Argent shrugged, unconcerned about this - this had happened so many times to him that he didn't even know when he had stopped counting. It no longer bothered him so much, so he just listened to what his Ranger had to say before saying anything back to him, as he knew he should and knew that this was a polite thing to do - Argent's family had never been big on manners, although he had picked up on them himself and followed them because he always thought it was the appropriate thing to do. It felt strange to be approached by a ranger again, seeing as he hadn't been on a run in so long... and this time, he would be letting them lead him on, not vice versa as it usually was.

"Okay, I'm here," the Ranger said. Argent noticed that the Pokémon accompanying him had its extremely long tongue out, ready to lick him with it at any moment. However, the Ranger quickly intercepted this action and stopped him in time to prevent Argent from gaining an early saliva bath. "I'm Alex and I'll be taking you through. Let me know when you're ready to go."

"Oh, I'm ready now. Mortifex! Assan! Chimey! Come on, we're going!" he replied, calling to his Pokémon. They all snapped into obedience and followed Argent as he gestured for Alex to lead the way. Following behind the Ranger, Argent wondered what was going to happen. They descended down to the Valley, and Argent pulled out his Poképlayer eagerly, sliding a disk out from his bag also. This was going to be better than the last run he had been on, he could tell that straight away. The air was clear and fresh, and he felt totally revived, instead of feeling utterly bone-tired as he was in the muggy air of his office in which he had been working in not an hour ago. He followed after the ranger energetically, wondering which disk he had just pulled out. Looking at the label on it, he found it was a Solosis voice disk. He thought that if a Solosis did actually appear, he'd be in luck. He smiled slightly, depositing the disk in the Poképlayer, but hesitated before pressing the play button.

Do you like Solosis, Chimey? he asked his Chimecho through their telepathic mind-link.

Solosis are okay in general, I suppose. They're kind of weird, though... all green and adapt-y and stuff, she replied.

Good, because I think we might encounter one on this run! This is a Solosis disk in the Poképlayer.

Play it already, then. Do you really need my opinion on everything you ask me for my opinion on?

Oh, but dear Chimecho, thou art mine best companion. I wouldst never dareth injure thine feelings with a careless move such as including a new member if I had not first gained thy approval, dear heart, Argent countered in mocking tones.

Very good, Argent. Now, are you going to play it? Or mayhap thou wouldst prefer to conceal thyself behind thine parapets and yap doglike 'till I reap thou of thy happiness? Chimey replied smartly, some kind of smugness concealed within the thought.

Argent pressed the play button on the Poképlayer without any further distraction. The cry of Solosis rang out through the atmosphere, causing Assan and Mortifex to look at him in surprise. He saw that he had just startled Mortifex out of trying to show off in some strangely dangerous way. He recalled Mortifex into his Poké Ball to make him avoid doing such things in the future. Assan stuck close to Argent now that he could not fool around with Mortifex. Argent smiled, wondering if a Solosis would actually appear at any stage.

Here, Solosis-osis-osis... he called out using his mind, prompting Chimey to look at him in surprise this time, only her expression was one of someone dealing with a lunatic.

Argent, that sounded extremely... a] perverted, and b] stupid. Please avoid doing such things in the future, she told him, jingling slightly.

"Oh, I'm ready now. Mortifex! Assan! Chimey! Come on, we're going!" he called out.

"Great." I said, "Let's get this over with." I was about to ask him where he wanted to go, but then I noticed he already had a Pokeplayer out and placed in the disk. A loud liquidly sound shot out of the player. It sounded a bit relaxing to me. I knew which Pokemon it was because it sounded pretty similar to Cosmos' voice, but a little less realistic. Cosmos was my Reuniclus that I had caught a while back. He came in handy quite often. I even brought him with me on this run, but I wasn't releasing him. He was too energetic and would be running amuk. I looked around, but didn't see anything coming our way.

"Perhaps you should wait until we get further in." I suggested. "They are pretty shy creatures, at least most are." I said, remembering Cosmos. He was the expection to the Solosis group.

We ventured into the valley. Everything here always seemed depressing and dull. It seemed to lack color and livelyness. I wish I could come here and just change it up, but then that would disturb the Pokemon of this area and cause all sorts of dilemmas. I was just going to have to put up with it for now.

I noticed that ahead of us was a statue. I hadn't seen it there before. I couldn't quite make out what it was because of the fog, but it did certainly look interesting. Then, I saw a yellow glow of a famillar parttern. It was a spiral, but shaped like a square. I knew what it was. It was the Pokemon that Rex chose as his starter, Golett.

I stepped back a bit after I realized that it was a Pokemon. I didn't want to startle him. "You want to battle this Pokemon?" I asked Argent.

"Perhaps you should wait until we get further in," Alex said a few moments after Argent had played the Solosis Voice Disk. "They are pretty shy creatures: at least most are."

Argent simply shrugged to his suggestion, following Alex down further into the Valley. Argent looked around at the gathering fog, shivering slightly as it brought a chill with it. It was dense - very dense, as far as Argent could see. He was practically wading through the fog, but he didn't seem to mind much. He could still see Alex's outline in the fog and kept following it, smiling all the while. Assan and Chimey were at either side of him, both confident about whatever lay ahead of them in this run - that was always to be expected of them though, really. Assan was really rather brave, and Chimey was always optimistic about chances of things happening. Argent hoped that he could get either a Solosis or Natu captured on this run - that would make him rather happy, and he would have some more Pokémon to be training. He loved keeping, caring and training Pokémon up. Perhaps a Solosis or Natu would eventually grow into Reuniclus or Xatu and start accompanying him on runs as well. He shrugged, though - he'd have to wait for now.

Trundling along further, Argent noticed how all of his surroundings seemed kind of bland, colourless, lifeless. He knew that many Pokémon thrived in these surroundings, though, so he too could see the good in this place. Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon could blend in quite well here, he realised, and so could Psychic-types if they made the efforts to. Argent knew that they wouldn't be bothered by Dark-type Pokémon on this run, however, as he had used a Dark-type repellent which he knew lasted for the entire run and prevented them from encountering Dark-types. He didn't feel the need for any Dark-type additions to his team at the moment, and knew that Chimey objected to most Dark-types anyway, especially the Hydreigon line. However, Chimey was fine with Ghost-types, even with the type disadvantage to them. This was proven by her friendship with Mortifex, the Dusknoir whom Argent had also chosen to accompany him on this run through Meteor Valley. So, still lost in his thoughts, yet conscious enough to keep following Alex through the Valley.

However, as he walked, an eerie yellow glow was bothering Argent and distracting him from his thoughts. Looking ahead, Argent noted that there indeed was a yellow glow casting through the fog, and he saw that Alex was walking right towards it. Argent mistook the shape forming ahead as a statue of something, but he couldn't tell what. However, Alex stepped back from the statue, and Argent could have sworn he'd seen the shape moving... which indeed it had. The fog was alleviated enough for Argent to see that this actually was an alive, moving thing. It was a Pokémon, but Argent couldn't recognise it very well. He wouldn't have recognised it had it not been for the sharp eyes of his Floatzel, who barked something to Chimey which Argent didn't understand, of course, since he couldn't speak Pokémon language - he made a mental note to try to learn and interpret it one day so he could actually tell what his Pokémon were saying - the ones who weren't telepathic, of course. Chimey found it difficult to sustain a large link, so Argent often refrained from asking her to do such a thing.

Assan says that it's a Golett, Chimey reported. They're those kinda creepy Ghost- and Ground-type Pokémon who were discovered first in that really distant region - Unova, I think it is.

Argent got a small, electronic device from his satchel, and flipped it open. He held it out towards the small Golett so that the camera could take in its appearance and explain the Pokémon further to Argent. And, after a few short moments of it taking in the Pokémon, the Pokédex which he held in his outstretched arm began talking aloud.

"Golett, the Automaton Pokémon. Ghost- and Ground-type. These Pokémon are thought to have been created by the science of an ancient and mysterious civilisation. The energy that burns inside it enables it to move, but no one has yet been able to identify this energy."

"Well, what an interesting Pokémon! You know, research on these wouldn't go amiss... hm, I think I will capture this Pokémon. It'll be a nice addition to the team as well as a more interesting element - oh, not that you're not interesting!" he added hastily to Assan and Chimey, for they had glared at him for his last remark.

"I suppose you're up, Assan. Chimey has a type disadvantage to its Ghost side, so I suppose you'll do nicely. You have lots of moves that are super-effective against it, so I guess that we'll start. First, Razor Wind to get rid of this damn fog - don't worry about hitting the Golett hard, it won't be affected by the attack. Second, Taunt it so that it won't go about raising its own power or inflicting status conditions. It won't be so hard and it won't take up much energy, so after those I want you to try an Ice Fang against it - I want you to try it in the special attacking way, as his body might damage your teeth. Let's go!"

Argent was going over what would happen in his head. First, Assan's creamy paws or the tips of his tails would start to glow a white colour, which had then to be fired around at its surroundings, the wind from it dispelling the fog around them so they could see each other more clearly and so Argent got a better idea of his surroundings. Afterwards, Assan's eyes would take a steely glint for a moment or two, tricking the Golett into only using attacking moves upon Assan - however, Assan was much quicker than the Golett so of course dodging would be easy for him. Afterwards, Assan's fangs would start to glow a clear, light blue in his mouth and he'd open it wide, firing off two identical jets of ice from his fangs towards the Golett, with the hope that he might cause it to be frozen somewhat. All of these things would help to capture the Golett easily, especially seeing as once the fog would be cleared up he could at least see to throw the ball at the Pokémon properly, and damaging the Pokémon was always in order because a Pokémon couldn't really be captured at full health.

Argent was confident that his commands could be carried out to a satisfactory level.

Argent decided to not use his Chimecho, which was a smart choice since it would have gotten whooped. Argent sent out a large orange weasel. It was a Floatzel, I kind of liked those Pokemon. They were not only good fighters, but great swimmers as well. I had a Floatzel, but I traded it away a long time ago. I regret it now and I don't even know what I traded it for anymore.

Golett readied itself for any attacks, but Argent wasn't starting off on the offense. Instead he ordered Floatzel to use Razor Wind to clear up some of the fog. It was a pretty smart thing to do I was going to give him credit for that. It was a really obvious thing to do, but most trainers just fought in the fog.

Floatzel then began to make faces and swing his tail back and forth. Golett seemed unfazed, so I wasn't too sure if Taunt worked. We would just have to wait and see. Floatzel took off, teeth barred and frozen. He bit hard into Golett who just cringed a little. It seemed like he knew this was going to happen. Golett drew his arm back and punched Floatzel sqaure in the face, sending him flying back. That was one powerful punch.

Assan drew his paws inwards, the fins on which glowing a bright white colour. He slashed them outwards, and ripples of wind flew from them, cutting through the fog easily and dispersing it away from them, and Argent could suddenly see much clearer, and thus have a better picture of the battle which was only just commencing. The blades of wind quickly went away also, and now the air was still and fog-clear. Assan swung his tails back and forth dangerously, pulling faces at the Golett as he tried to Taunt it, but Golett looked unfazed by the face-pulling and such so Argent wasn't entirely sure if the Taunt had actually worked in the first place, but Assan certainly wasn't going to lose any time worrying. His orange fur rippled slightly as he moved his muscles, baring his teeth towards the Golett threateningly as they circled each other briefly. However, Argent watched as Assan's fangs began to glow an icy blue colour, and then he sprang towards Golett at full speed. He bit hard into Golett - Argent saw it cringe a tiny bit - but Golett was prepared.

With a mighty punch, Assan was dislodged from Golett's arm and launched far backwards. Argent crouched down beside Assan, encouraging him to get back up - Assan pushed himself to his feet quickly, as if he hadn't been hurt at all. Assan was a brave kind of Pokémon, and wasn't one to show much sign of strain or pain. Argent quickly began to formulate a plan in his mind to try to fool the Golett and cause him a bit of damage to make him easier to capture. Golett was standing there, also preparing for an attack, whilst Assan was looking towards Argent for some sort of plan, which Argent was quick in the making of. Smiling confidently at Assan, he received the same sort of smile from the orange-and-cream Floatzel, who made a mocking salute as Argent started to speak, as if Argent was the leader of an army or something such. Shrugging, Argent started what he was going to say once more, smiling still as he spoke - a strange thing that he had picked up somewhere, and it sometimes crept out his Chimecho.

"Okay, Assan, work with me. If Taunt works the way we think it will, Golett will attack relentlessly. Whenever he gets near you, start spinning on your back while using Aqua Jet - like a counter shield, and it'll hurt Golett to try going near you. If you use Water Gun while you're spinning, then you can create whip-like jets of water to hit Golett with. Stop spinning, but Water Gun its eyes so it can't see for a bit. Aqua Jet upwards, then Waterfall down on Golett."

A breakdown: the 'counter shield' move was a technique often employed by Argent and Assan in battle. If Assan was in danger of attack, counter shield allowed Assan to spin on his back, propelled by the Aqua Jet, and water would fly out and stop the opponent from getting any further. The conjunction of counter shield with Water Gun allowed Assan to damage the opponent far better, and eventually it would wear the opponent down. Afterwards, Argent had ordered an Aqua Jet and then Waterfall - it was a thing that he often did when there was a shortage of water. Assan would fly upwards in a torrent of water, spinning - Waterfall was a physical attack and was his most powerful same-type attack, allowing Assan to do a lot of damage to anyone who was in the way. This particular plan was a great way to wear down Golett for capture, and he knew that Assan could tone down his attacks so that he wouldn't make Golett faint, as he had often done before using this plan. Assan lay on his back, spinning around on the floor until his body seemed to be bursting with water, and then he was surrounded by the blue liquid, propelling himself around faster. Whip-like jets of water started to slam around the place, and Argent stepped back in order to stop himself from being knocked about by the attack.

    "Woo, Assan!"

    "Lickitung?" Lickitron moaned.

"Okay, fine, I'll feed you. Though, I did just feed you not too long ago." I said, he sure did a lot and surprisingly he didn't gain any weight. It was quite strange how someone could eat so much and not gain any weight. I turned my attention back to Argent and his Floatzel.

He had ordered his Floatzel to start off with Aqua Jet as soon as Golett made his move. I honestly didn't think Golett would go in and make his move, but he did. With his arm pulled back, he charged forward towards Floatzel. The water weasel took off, leaving a stream water behind him as he slammed into Golett. The mini robot didn't hold back though, he jammed his fist into Floatzel's head.

Floatzel went flying back, when he got back to his feet, he was facing the wrong way. It was appearent what move Golett had used, Dynamic Punch. It often confused the target. I wasn't sure how this would affect the battle, but he was going to have a hard time landing a move. The orange Water Pokemon blew a stream of water into Golett's face. He didn't seem to do anything after that. This battle didn't seem to be going well, but it also didn't seem as if it would last that much longer.

It must have seemed to Assan that his orders were too complicated, because he didn't carry them out in the way he had planned, although Argent supposed that it was because of some dratted force (who we know to be Bumblebee) that had invaded Assan's mind and prevented him from carrying out the orders in the way that Argent had wanted him to, simply because it couldn't be bothered watching it be stylish and full of swag and beat the crap out of the Golett with ease. BUT NOTHING EASY HAPPENS TO YOUNG HEROES - THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL SORTS OF CRAP GIVEN TO THEM BY THEIR MEAN WRITERS IN CONTROL OF THEIR ENTIRE LIVES AND WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE AND AFTER. Argent watched as his plan, which had broken to pieces, unfolded - Assan had used the moves he had ordered, just not in the way he had ordered them, which kind of pissed off Argent a little bit - which is saying a lot, seeing as Argent didn't easily get pissed off.

Assan just launched himself into Golett in a flurry of water known as Aqua Jet and so on and so forth, and managed to get himself confused from Golett's DynamicPunch attack, another thing which made Argent twinge a bit with annoyance. As soon as all the called attacks had been ordered, however, Argent decided he had had just about enough of the nonsense that was going on in the battle, so he was to end it as soon as he could. Delving into his satchel, he pulled out a small sphere - a Super Ball, it seemed - and pressed the capture button in the middle to enlarge it to a proper size. It swelled in his hand quickly, until it took up the entire expanse of the fingerlessly-gloved hand. He pulled the ball back behind his head, then thrust his arm forwards in an overhead throw. The ball slid from his fingers gracefully and arced towards the Ghost-/Ground-type Pokémon who was standing before them, apparently pleased that it had done considerable damage and inflicted a status condition upon its opponent. Argent hoped that the ball would both hit and capture the Pokémon successfully, as he couldn't be bothered dealing with it still.

Calling Assan over to him, Argent let Assan lean on him for support, seeing as he was still extremely confused. Argent knew that this would be gone in a few moments, but he would still support his Floatzel because that was the right thing to do, and Argent strived to do the right things in life because that was the right mind frame for him, and Argent liked being in the right mind frame because that was a right aid for his rightness in his right life.

ARGENT DID LOVE LEFT, OF COURSE, BUT HE NORMALLY CHOSE RIGHT.

    [threw super ball hooray.]

Argent didn't say anything. Instead, he pulled out a Superball and tossed it at the Ghost Pokemon. At first, I thought the ball was just going to go through it since Golett wasn't moving or trying to evade the Superball, but it didn't. The ball hit Golett on its square spiral and a red light sucked it in. The Superball landed on the ground and shook twice before remaining motionless on the ground.

"Hmph, well, looks like you caught it." I congradulated. "Awesome." I walked over to the sphere on the ground and picked it up. I tossed the ball to Lickitron who extended his tongue and placed the ball inside. It was going to be wet and slimey when Argent recieved the Pokeball. I just laughed and looked over towards the Ranger-Trainer.

"Whenever you're ready we can move on."

Argent was glad that Golett didn't seem to be making any move to try and avoid the Super Ball as it arced towards him, spinning and speeding through the air towards the Golett, where it hit the small Ghost-type on the spiral on its belly (Bullseye! Argent thought). The ball, having its capture device activated, opened and a red beam of light shot at the Golett, inexorably sucking him into the small sphere. It fell to the ground, where it wobbled precariously for a few moments, and then with a pinging noise it became still. Argent cheered in surprise and excitement, Assan and Chimey also sharing in with the glory because they were a team and such. This was the second Pokémon that Argent himself had captured in the Park, the first being Mampfax, a Munchlax then but a large Snorlax now who he was quite proud of. Argent watched as his Ranger retrieved the Ball from the ground, saying something.

"Hmph, well, looks like you've caught it. Awesome," he had said. Argent smiled brightly towards him, thanking him for his congratulations.

"Yeah, I'm pretty excited about training this Golett. Apparently their evolutions, Golurk, can fly!" Argent replied, and it was in fact true. He loved training any Pokémon that came his way, especially those of species he had never encountered face to face before, so each Pokémon brought a new challenge to his abilities as a trainer and thus his life as one could go on unhindered for ages and ages, seeing as there were over 600 Pokémon and he had only trained about 20 or so. Alex handed the Ball to Lickitung, who positively covered it with saliva and stored it away. Argent looked away from him, instead returning his attention to the Ranger who was looking back at him. Chimey smirked a little smugly for some reason, although Argent didn't know why.

You look so lovey-dovey looking at each other like that, she said.

Ugh! Come off it, Chimey. I'm not gay or anything, for Arceus' sake.

That would be an interesting theory to tell Clara, wouldn't it? she mused wryly.

There's no talking to you about anything, is there? You're so weird sometimes.

Clara Feliday was Argent's girlfriend, whom he had met one day on the chase of an Aipom, which was indeed a long story (A 39K ONE, IN FACT. ONE THAT FAILED). Moving swiftly on at Alex's gesture, however, Argent waited until they got further into the Valley to see if there would be any Solosis about, but couldn't be bothered waiting much longer, as he decided to press the Play button on his PokéPlayer, which still had the Solosis Voice Disk inside. The cry of Solosis rang out into the general area, but Argent couldn't be sure if he'd actually encounter one or not.

Argent wandered on with his two Pokémon who were out of their Balls, sighing as he took into account his surroundings. The fog at this stage was gone due to Assan's Razor Wind dispelling it from them, so Argent got a clearer view of what the Valley actually looked like - it didn't look like a very energetic place, to say the least. The walls of the valley looked very scraggly and dull, riddled with holes and cracks and little crevices and alcoves and caves, seemingly. He wanted to explore the caves and alcoves, but he knew that he couldn't deviate from where he should be on this run, and that was following the Ranger along a usually pre-determined path so that things could run without many hitches and much more smoothly than one which was being improvised on the spot, which had a lot more room for error and could end up with the Ranger, Trainer and Pokémon in an unexpectedly sticky situation.

Argent really hoped that he'd encounter something he wanted or came for from the area, notably things like Golett (which he had already captured); Solosis, which he had played the disk for twice at this stage; Natu, for whom he had also equipped a voice disk but had not yet used it; Ralts, for whom he was counting on luck to bring to him if the voice disks failed; and Gastly, for whom the story was the same as Ralts. He knew that his Grumpig, Baneboo, did not like the Ralts line for a reason he had not disclosed with Argent as of yet and would probably make a very good story, one which I could write at one stage or another. Argent sighed, checking off the list of what he wanted from Meteor Valley. If he encountered a Rare or Special Pokémon, he had a Digital Camera now to take pictures with and actually earn him some money too. Argent was a great planner for the National Park now and had brought everything he needed, except healing supplies - he had his Chimecho, however, who was basically the whole healing supply range in a Pokémon whom he had achieved for free.

Thinking of healing, Argent was reminded that he should get Chimey to heal up Assan. Quickly notifying her of this thought, she smiled at him gently and then went to Assan. Closing her eyes in concentration, she became outlined in a pinkish-purple aura and a sphere of energy which was the same colour as she was glowing enveloped Assan momentarily, dissipating and giving Assan a lot more health than he had. Such was the effect of Heal Pulse, the move which Chimey had just utilised on her team-mate. It was for this reason that he brought Chimey to the National Park, to heal other Pokémon - of course, she was a great battler and had brought Munchlax to his non-existent knees with her prowess in order for Argent to capture him, having inflicted a lot of damage and two status impediments (paralysis and sleep). Argent smiled now that the errand was over, returning to his thoughts of what he liked about the National Park thus far, and more about Meteor Valley.

"Yeah, I'm pretty excited about training this Golett. Apparently their evolutions, Golurk, can fly!" He said happily.

"Yeah, I know. Pretty cool. Rex has one, but he doesn't want to evolve it." I said. "Alright then, let's go." I said, leading the way. I saw the fog was returning, and much more of it this time. It was hard to see anything. I moved closer to Argent so that he wouldn't get lost. I don't know how much trouble I'd be in if I lost my Trainer here, even if he was a Ranger and could look after himself. It was against protocol.

"Okay, try and stay close," I said, "I don't want to lose you here." If I did, I would have to get Leo and Mindbender to find them. Then get in trouble after the run, I had Lickitron follow behind him.

I saw two red dots staring back at me through the fog. I couldn't see a body, but I felt it was a Pokemon. I walked towards it, making sure Argent was still close by. Upon coming closer, I saw a tan cresent shape.

"Lunatone." It said in a robotic tone. It moved closer towards us, revealing itself.

OOC: inb4 Argent disappears again. ;P.

Argent, who was following behind Alex, noticed that the fog was thickening as they ventured deeper into the valley. Argent hated fog - it was so damn difficult to see anything when fog was about, especially if one was battling or trying to journey through unknown territory. Argent knew that if he wasn't very careful, he could take a wrong step somewhere and disappear into that unknown, perhaps without even realising that he had done so. Argent was quite glad when Alex gave the instructions to stay close to him, reassured that there was at least someone accompanying him who knew what they were doing. Chimey floated nonchalantly by his side, apparently not at all disconcerted about the thick fog which prevented a lot of sight going on. Argent sighed quietly, looking to his left. Assan was being led by his nose, apparently, as he frequently sniffed at the air to get his sense of direction. Argent told the both of his Pokémon to stay closer to him, an order which they obeyed without question.

Argent noticed that the Lickitung that Alex had brought along - Lickitron or something, Argent thought its name was - was walking along behind him, probably on Alex's orders. Argent felt a bit disconcerted that it was, as he had almost been licked all over by the thing earlier, and didn't feel that his chances of not getting licked would be any better, especially with the Lickitung mostly in a place where he couldn't be noticed before it was too late. Argent brought his mind off from the Lickitung for the time being, wondering where exactly he was being led by Alex. For all he knew, they could be heading into a completely different area at this rate - fog was definitely in the top ten things of which he hated, accompanied by such things as Chimey's unnerving ability to be overly sarcastic when the time called for it. Also setting aside the thoughts of the things he hated in the world, he decided to simply put his mind on the path ahead.

A short while later, Argent noticed an eerie red glow - they seemed to be in the shape of eyes, until Argent realised with a shock that they probably were eyes. He could see it as they got closer - its crescent-shaped body, almost like the moon (when it wasn't a full moon, obviously). It had an unusual beak-like structure protruding from it somewhat, and it was floating in the middle of the air. It was primarily a lightish brown colour, with black patches around its eyes. Argent didn't recognise the Pokémon at all, so he brought out his Pokédex to help him see what it was.

"Lunatone - the Meteorite Pokémon," the mechanical feminine voice of the Pokédex came. "Lunatone is a Pokémon that is said to have originally came from space. They originally came to the Pokémon world within meteorites and have since adapted to it quite nicely. Lunatone's ability, Levitate, allows it to avoid Ground-type moves such as Earthquake or Magnitude. Its powerful red eyes also fill the onlooker with fear. It is capable of reading the thoughts of other lifeforms like most psychic types. It is even capable of brainwashing, but only does this when it feels threatened and usually as a last resort. Its psychic powers can grow stronger under the light of the full moon. It is said that if Lunatone is exposed under the moonlight for enough time its psychic powers will grow stronger than that of an Alakazam."

After all of that was said and done, the Lunatone floated forwards a little, speaking in a strangely outlandish voice, as if it really did come from somewhere other than the earth upon which Argent walked. "Lunatone," it said.

"Uh, this seems to be an interesting Pokémon, but I don't think it's for me. Can we move on?"

ARGENT PLAYED HIS SOLOSIS DISK IN CASE THAT HE ESCAPED.

"Uh, this seems to be an interesting Pokémon, but I don't think it's for me. Can we move on?" Argent said. I just rolled my eyes. This Pokemon was pretty cool and I would catch it if I was by myself. Though that would be breaking park policy so perhaps I would just befriend it. I just shrugged my shoulders and nodded. We started moving slowly past Lunatone to make sure it didn't attack us as we made our escape.Once we left the Moon Pokemon, Argent pressed the play button on his disk again. We waited several moments for one to come by, but nothing.

"Sorry dude, looks like one isn't coming today." I began to say. Then, I heard the cry again, except Argent wasn't playing her disk. I quickly turned around and saw a small green blob looking up at us. It let out a small yawn and moved towards Argent. "Well I'll be, looks like you get one after all."

    OOC: Male Solosis, pl0x.

Argent was a bit shocked to see that his Ranger rolled his eyes at his choice - surely it was his choice to make, not his Ranger's? Argent thought that his Ranger had absolutely no call to be so snarky with his own decision, especially since he was supposed to be encouraging as a Ranger. He made a mental note of his Ranger's negative behaviour towards him in case he felt like filing a complaint once he had finished this run - hopefully by then he'd have some of the Pokémon he'd came for. He hadn't really came for the Golett, but was sure here for a Solosis and Natu - he didn't capture the Lunatone because since he knew he couldn't take more than four Pokémon out from his run, he would probably have caught a Golett and two other Pokémon - hopefully a Solosis and Natu - and those would be definitely chosen over a Lunatone, a Pokémon whom he had heard to not be very good in a battle. He shrugged, though, moving on along with his Ranger.

He had played his disk previously, and was losing confidence in its working. That strange, wobbly jelly-like sound was emitted from his PokéPlayer once more, but as they walked on, Argent thought that there wasn't going to be a Solosis for him on this run, which upset him a bit, although it didn't really discourage him that much. Perhaps he could obtain a Solosis from elsewhere, although he didn't much fancy travelling to Unova to get just one species of Pokémon. Argent's doubtful thoughts were echoed by his Ranger, who said, "Sorry, dude, looks like one isn't coming today." This was another thing that surprised Argent about his Ranger's outlook on the National Park - even if something was unlikely, it could still happen, and this made Argent think that his Ranger just had a wholly negative outlook on things overall... so much for being encouraging and friendly. He could have looked even a little more sombre if he was really being sincere, but Argent couldn't really care about the misdemeanours of the man who was leading him through the Park, especially one called Alex.

Suddenly, a voice like the one Argent had just played on his disk rang out into the air, only it wasn't coming from his PokéPlayer. Both he and his Ranger turned, Argent slightly after him, and his Ranger seemed surprised. "Well, I'll be-- looks like you got one after all," he said. Argent smirked a little too smugly, as he had just proved his Ranger wrong, albeit he hadn't actually said anything to need to be proved right in the first place. At any rate, Argent was excited that he could finally get his hands on a Solosis to train one and hopefully evolve it fully into a Reuniclus. He knew exactly what he was going to do to try and capture it, and so his hand delved into his useful satchel once more, to bring out a sphere that contained a Pokémon, instead of an empty one that could capture a Pokémon. He tossed it into the air elegantly, and the ball was thrust open, and into the sky was released a white light. It shot towards the ground, and materialised into a Ghost-type Pokémon.

"Looks like we've got ourselves a Psychic-type Pokémon here, Mortifex! I'm sure you can handle it, so I chose you. However, go a bit gentle on him, okay? You can really hurt him if you're not careful. First, I want you to use Shadow Sneak on your way to Solosis - that way, it can't detect you and strike back first. Secondly, I'd like you to Bind it so that it can't move anywhere much. From there, let rip a Shadow Punch on it and we'll see what our choices are when we've done that."

When using Shadow Sneak, Mortifex's eyes would take on a hazy grey glow and his shadow would start to grow outwards, until it'd be unable to be distinguished from the rest of the surroundings, and that way he could sneak behind Solosis for a surprise attack. At that point, Mortifex would extend some of the ghostly aura he had to Bind Solosis to the spot, so that it couldn't move anywhere for an attack. After that, maybe he would be able to inflict a status or two - Argent could always bring in Chimey for that, she was great at doing it - or cut down its health to the point where a capture would be quite easy for Argent, and then they could move on to see if they could find a Natu, at which point Argent could end his run and concentrate on both his National Park paperwork and his training of the new Pokémon he'd have captured. Argent was quite excited to see the results of his training on the Pokémon - maybe he'd teach the Golett to fly at one point or another - and all kinds of things. It'd be TOTALLY AWESOME.

Argent, are you sure Mortifex was a good choice for this run...? Chimey asked, concerned or something.

I'm sure he was. He's got good coverage against Pokémon - are you scared that he could beat you? Argent replied, smirking a little.

Ugh, no! You know I could beat any Pokémon you've trained up, even the ones who have type advantages over me.

Yeah, I do. Don't worry, lil' Chimey - if we encounter a Natu, you can battle it. How about that? he asked.

That'd be nice. I don't want to become your team's cleric or something, you know.

Yes, I know. You do nag on sometimes, Chimey.

Shut up. Let's just hope Mortifex doesn't do anything too ostentatious.

It didn't seem too well thought to me. Everything after the Bind part would probably fail for one obvious reason. Solosis could easily slip out of the bind, being the jello that it is.

Dusknoir quickly disappeared into the ground. I could barely see his outline in the brown earth as he creeped over towards Solosis. I lost sight of Dusknoir because of the fog, but I knew he'd resurface behind Solosis, so I kept my eyes peered at that location.

Sure enough, moments later the tall, chunky looking Ghost Pokemon emerged at Solosis' rear. It grabbed onto the small Psychic Pokemon, but as it tried to bind the Pokemon, it just popped out. Dusknoir then knew it wasn't going to work so he punched Solosis in the face.

The Psychic Pokemon let out a small bolt of electricity towards Dusknoir. It was Thunder, but a weak one at that. Dusknoir cringed a little, but didn't back down. I didn't see any static coming off of the Ghost Pokemon, so I figured it wasn't paralyed. Solosis wasn't that strong, but it wasn't giving up without a fight.

On Argent's command, Mortifex dipped into the ground, extending his shadow into the fog so that he wouldn't be noticed moving around. Argent could only barely see Mortifex, given the large shadow that covered his appearance and also the heavy fog that had gathered (Argent felt he could practically eat it at this stage). However, Argent could tell that it was all going to plan as Mortifex was seen rising up from the ground behind the unsuspecting green orb that was there. He had used Shadow Sneak on the little thing, and it was kind of scared out of its wits. Then, Mortifex tried to extend his ghostly outline in order to Bind the Solosis, but that didn't seem to have been working. Argent sighed, and said under his breath that Mortifex should abandon the attempt to Bind Solosis, which, surprisingly, was what happened.

Mortifex dropped his try of Bind quickly, instead curling his fist and raising it into the air, almost for dramatic effect. A purple outline was cast around his fist, and so Mortifex brought it down upon the little creature for devastating effect. The Solosis was thrown backwards a little, but didn't seem to be all that damaged just yet, as its body began to crackle and spark with an electrical charge, and Argent knew what was going to happen, although he couldn't prevent it. A sharp shock was let out in Mortifex's direction, but it didn't seem to be a very strong Electric-type attack. Argent thought it was an attempt at Thunder, but it didn't seem to have worked very well. Perhaps Mortifex had damaged it more than Argent had thought, although he didn't much care at this point. He was in the full swing of a battle, and wasn't going to slow down until he had caught that Pokémon. He smiled slightly, then watched as Mortifex retreated back to Argent for his next few commands.

"Okay, that was really well done. We don't seem to be able to bind it, but don't worry about that right now. We have a lot more to do until we can capture the Pokémon, so we'll have to get on with it quickly. First, we'll use Curse! I know it'll hurt you, but the Solosis won't be able to do much anyway, and we can have Chimey heal you up afterwards. Anyway, after Curse, we're going to try two status-inducing moves. Will-o-Wisp, and then Confuse Ray. After Confuse Ray, try to fit in a Shadow Punch! Well, you can do it in whatever order you find convenient, but try to get it all done. After that, perhaps we can capture the Solosis. There's no harm in trying. Again, though, be careful. We don't want to knock out Solosis."

Firstly, Mortifex would have to concentrate in order to get Curse underway. Once he had concentrated enough, he could snap open his eyes and unleash some purple-coloured ghostly energy onto the opponent, which after that would slowly whittle the Solosis's health down. Afterwards, Mortifex would press his hands together in order to start the Will-o-Wisp. His hands would usually burn a red colour as he brought them outwards, to form three revolving orbs of reddish-purple flame that spun towards the opponent and inflicted them with a Burn status. Shortly afterwards, Mortifex could use his Confuse Ray by focusing on the opponent, and then his eyes would begin to glow white. He'd release a rainbow-coloured beam from his eyes that, when it contacted the opponent, would inflict them with Confusion for a chance of smacking themselves. After all this was done, Argent would throw a Ball - he hadn't decided quite yet if it was to be a Super Ball or a Hyper Ball, but a Ball nonetheless.

    [INSERT BUMBLEBEE'S BATTLE POST HERE].

Argent delved into his satchel quickly, flipping open the flap that gave him entry. Wiggling his hand around in search of a Hyper Ball, he brought out one that seemed to be in good working order. He pressed the button in the middle to enlarge it to the size of his palm, and then grasped it, his fingerless gloves giving him far more grip on the ball so it was easier to throw. Narrowing his clear blue eyes, he launched the ball through the air gracefully, it spinning as it swung towards the Solosis, hopefully hitting it and activating the capture mechanism which allowed the Pokémon to be contained inside a Ball.

"I really hope this works," Argent said, trembling with nerves almost.

I do too. Mainly so you'll shut up, really, Chimey said carelessly, smirking at Argent. Her words were lost on him, however, as he was anticipating what would happen.

Argent began giving more orders, but all I heard was blah blah blah. He had already bored me with this battle, though I had to admit trying to bind Solosis was pretty funny. I didn't laugh though because I didn't want to be rude. I saw Dusknoir's body begin to get darker. He looked like a three dimensional shadow, it was a bit cool.

I noticed that Dusknoir was looking extremely weaker than he was just moments ago. I then knew what Argent had ordered him to do. There was only one Ghost move that caused that much damage in one go, Curse. It did more damage to him than it did to Solosis, but Curse was a continuing thing that sapped more health from the enemy each time.

Then Dusknoir seemed to have recovered a little from his move, at least enough to begin another attack. He formed several ghastly fiery orbs around his body and launched them at Solosis. The orbs hit the small Psychic Pokemon, but it didn't seem to do much, if anything. Solosis then launched a colorful beam of energy that slighty dazed me. It used Confuse Ray on Dusknoir. The large, plump Ghost Pokemon began swinging wildly, crashing into the ground.

A large flame engulfed Solosis, but it didn't seem to effect him the way burn normally did. It didn't seem to do anything. I wasn't sure if Argent noticed this, but he threw a Hyperball towards the Solosis. A red light shot out and sucked in the blob. It shook twice then remained motionless.

"Okay," I said yawning. "Awesome job, you caught it." I bent down and picked it up and tossed it towards Lickitron who exteneded his tongue and placed it in his mouth again with Golett's Pokeball. "Whenever you've readied yourself, we can move on."

Argent smiled as he watched Mortifex begin to grow darker, almost appearing like a tangible shadow. However, he soon snapped back to normal, and looked extremely weak. Argent hoped that Mortifex'd be okay, but he soon did prove himself useful in the battle, although the Solosis still had a few tricks up his sleeve. Regardless, Argent watched as Mortifex battled on through, ploughing down through the Solosis's defenses easily as if it was nothing. Argent watched as both Mortifex and the Solosis grew weaker, until he was about to call Mortifex out of battle - however, it seemed that both had finished off the performance of their final moves, so Argent called Mortifex to the side and brought the sphere into the air, flinging it elegantly straight towards the Solosis. The capture function was activated, and the Solosis was sucked inside the ball. Argent smiled as he watched the ball shake once... twice... three times.

A pinging noise echoed throughout the Valley, and Argent knew he had succeeded in capturing the Solosis. He then called Mortifex over to him, and had Chimey use Heal Pulse. Her body began to glow a pink colour as she reached out to Mortifex, placing the ends of her stubby arms on his broad chest and extending the Heal Pulse onto him. He seemed to be rather revitalised by it, and at least a lot stronger. Sighing, Chimey also began to jingle a very soothing melody, which coursed through Argent's ears and made him feel a lot better - the atmosphere had been having a negative impact on him, as well as the snideness of the Ranger. Argent knew also that this Heal Bell would get rid of Mortifex's Burn and Confusion statuses through the healing power of music or something, infused with psychic ability. Chimey was a great healer, and it was truthfully the main reason that Argent brought her on all his runs, in case anyone needed healing. He supposed that he could have been a Pokémon Doctor, but being a Ranger was more appealing at the time.

Argent glanced reproachfully at the Lickitung - his Ranger kept putting the Balls in his mouth for some reason, and Argent didn't find that very sanitary or sane. However, he wasn't one to pass judgement, especially on a person who didn't seem to like him that much. "Whenever you've readied yourself, we can move on," he had said. Argent raised his eyebrows - 'readied yourself'? Really? Argent shook his head a little bit, but replied affirmatively so that they could move on from the spot. In preparation, he pressed the eject button on the PokéPlayer to remove the Solosis Voice Disk, now that it had been used, and in its stead came a Natu Voice Disk. Once it had been slotted in properly, Argent pushed firmly down on the Play button, and the cry of Natu rang out into the skies. Argent smiled slightly, trotting on after his Ranger.

Argent gave a slight nod, telling me that he was ready. "Alright then, since you're playing Natu disk now, I guess we can go to a spot where they are sometimes seen. Maybe we'll get lucky there too." I suggested. When he didn't say anything, I just guessed that he wanted to do what I said. I pulled out a compass and used it to find the path in this fog.

It took a while, but I ended up finding it. We then set on the path towards the place where I saw Natu. I was secretly hoping it was there, because it was nice to have Trainers find what they were looking for, though right now I didn't want to show it. We walked for a while, and we were almost there when a small Spoink bouncing around, balancing the pearl on its head.

"Want to battle that Spoink?" I asked.

"All right then, since you're playing Natu disk now, I guess we can go to a spot where they are sometimes seen. Maybe we'll get lucky there too," Alex suggested to Argent. Argent said nothing to reply, but Alex took that as a response in the positive manner, so he seemed to be leading Argent to the place where he saw Natu the most. There was still a very thick fog around, and Argent saw his Ranger pick out a compass from his belongings and use it to tell which direction they were going in. Argent sighed, as he knew he was in for quite a long walk and he was very tired already, and would have liked nothing more than to have climbed back into bed after all the time he had spent out here already - it had felt like days, although it obviously hadn't been. Argent still traipsed along after his Ranger, and Chimey had become a bit disheartened herself, although they still strode on resiliently.

It took what seemed like forever, but eventually they all found it - well, it was probably more Alex's work, but Argent was ready to take a rest anyway. Alex was walking on the path towards the place where he often saw Natu, and Argent was hoping that he could see one or two there, so that he could catch one. Then he could leave the Park after this extremely long day. However, for now, he'd have to settle for anything that popped up and probably reject capturing whatever. However, Argent encountered a Spoink - he recognised it immediately. The grey skin, the pale pink pearl on its head, the cute nose and pink cheeks, not to mention the spring on which it bounced. Argent himself had trained up a Spoink, after having recovered its pearl from an evil team who were using it to hypnotise all Pokémon within the area to obey their commands. Argent had captured the Spoink for his own after the ordeal, and had named it Baneboo. At the moment, Baneboo was a Grumpig living with Argent's grandmother in Azalea Town back in Johto. Argent's grandmother took care of some of the Pokémon that Argent couldn't bring with him everywhere, and Baneboo was one of them. Others went to Professor Elm's lab or his childhood home in Olivine City. Argent tried to make routine trips to see them all whenever he could. Of course, he didn't have many Pokémon at the moment - only about twenty or so - but that didn't matter much. He still couldn't take them all with him.

"Want to battle that Spoink?" I asked.

"Oh, a Spoink!" Argent exclaimed. "Unfortunately, I don't want to battle it. I already have a Spoink - well, Grumpig - of my own, so I don't exactly need another. Thanks for the offer, though."

Argent pressed the Play button back on his PokéPlayer in case they escaped from the Spoink, and the cry of Natu rang once more in the air. Argent hoped that other Natu would be entranced by the sound so that he could encounter one and capture it. He really did want to get it over with at this stage. HE ALSO TRIED TO BUY A POKÉDOLL FROM ALEX.

    OOC: 14,250 - 500 = 13,750.
