Beginner RP: OmegaBlazer [Mt. Deckbi]

NBP #1

Back to the grind. Two runs had come in near simultaneously, and Aleria was trying to speed through them as fast as she possibly could. She didn't want to rush the trainers, so that they wouldn't feel like they had wasted their hard earned money. At the same time, she knew that there were other trainers waiting, and she didn't want them to start demanding refunds. It was a lose/lose situation here, and Aleria was stuck in the middle of it.

Thankfully her next run was a shorter run, so it wouldn't take as long as the more expensive runs, much to her pleasure. She enjoyed the shorter runs just because it meant she wasn't in the park nearly as long as with the longer runs.

Dear Arceus, she felt like she was starting to hate the National Park. It was sad because this was a place she loved so very much when she first took on this job, and now years later, she was slowly starting to hate it. Aleria blamed the lack of rangers actually doing their jobs.

Still, the days of vacations were but a dream to her at the moment. Being one of the few active rangers, she couldn't afford to take any sort of vacation. For now, she'd just dream of it and plan her dream vacation bit by bit. Aleria had even taken to saving up for that vacation she dreamed so much about.

She made her way to the gate for Mt. Deckbi, which was the location for her next run. It seemed like this particular mountain was a popular place among new trainers going on their first adventure into the park. Aleria hadn't heard of many other trainers going to many places besides Deckbi. Perhaps she would be more observant on this run, see why the trainers loved this place so much. Of course, first, she'd need the trainer who she'd been assigned to to show up first.

Randel shook his head as he as he sat on a rock while chatting to his Combusken, fixing his yellow-green, light-weight tee. “I know, I know, Blazer” he said, “It’s a little annoying waiting to get going.”

“Com, combusk, busken…” Blazer responded, dancing in place while looking around the warm, rocky volcanic landscape that spread out in front of them, “COMBUSKEN!!!!”

Laughing a little bit, the Trainer stood up before rubbing the back of the Pokemon, “Now, now, you know that patience’ll pay off in the end. Please calm down, besides you don’t want to scare any potential friends, do you?”

“Com?” Blazer asked, “Busken…”

Finally, the large chicken-shaped Pokemon seemed to have stopped dancing around, at least not as much. However, Randel then started to dust off his blue jean shorts and then found himself a little bit worried, “I just hope Aleria recognizes my face, despite the fact I had longer hair. Though, I’m sure everything’ll be just fine.” As he said that, he started to stand up on some rocks, looking around some more for the Ranger, “Come on, where are you?” he asked aloud only to have Blazer gently peck him.

“COM!” he shouted looking at the Trainer sternly, “COM BUSK!”

Laughing at the peck, the Trainer shook his head before finally saying, “Now I’m the one who’s getting rash, aren’t I?” With that, he started to sit down the rock before taking a few deep breaths, “Blazer, do you think we’ll find a Machop or a Geodude to help us with that PokeHomes project we volunteered to do after this?”

NBP #2

She'd gotten a little held up at the Ranger Outpost, so she was rushing to the gates for Deckbi, running as fast as her legs would let her. Aleria's Flareon was alongside her, encouraging the Ranger to go on. She was grateful for the little Fire type. When she arrived, she saw her trainer sitting on the rocks waiting for her.

"Sorry," she breathed, catching her breath. "Got a little held up at the Ranger Outpost. Normally I'm here before the trainer." So much for spending a little time before the trainer showed up planning her vacation that she one day hoped to have.

Aleria smiled once she caught her breath. "I'm Aleria, your Ranger today," she said. She gestured to the Flareon sitting beside her. "And this is Flare."

She stepped forward to unlock the gate as Flare looked up at the Combusken her trainer had brought along with him. When the gate was open, Flare ran through, waiting for the trainer, Combusken, and Aleria to cross through. Aleria was the last to step through, closing and locking the gate behind her.

Flare was quite eager to get out today. It was uncharacteristic of her, but Aleria wasn't too surprised by it. It had been a while since any of her Pokemon had got out of their Poke Balls because of how busy she was. Flare rushed forward once everyone was inside. "Slow down!" Aleria called out to her Pokemon. She sighed.

"Guess we'll be following my Flareon around today. I didn't realize how eager she was to get out," she said, walking ahead in the direction her Flareon had gone off. Thankfully, Aleria had been to Deckbi enough times to know her way around and she doubted Flareon would get too lost if they got separated.

Hearing Aleria and Flare, Blazer suddenly turned towards them, looking excited and anxious to get started as Randel smiled and waited patiently. “It’s okay, I suppose it’s been a busy time for you, I heard it was an estimate wait of a week or so. Regardless, I’m Randel.”

As he stood up and dusted himself off once again, the Conbusken next to him shouted out, “COM! COMBUSK!” as loudly as he could, causing Randel to shake his head.

“This is Blazer, and well…” he dropped his voice, “…let us just say the sooner we can get started, the better.” He chuckled as he said the last part before breathing deeply while watching the gate opening, going through, and the close, but then widened his eyes as he saw the tiny fox rush off head of them. Without haste, the pair followed Aleria and Flare, “And I thought Blazer was impatient!” Despite the running, he was still trying to look around at the volcanic ground for any Pokemon that were around.

“Combusken!!!” shouted Blazer, looking happy for such a quick start into the park but there was still a tinge of worry as he sensed that, while exciting, this wasn’t normal, “COMBUSKEN!”

NBP #3

When Randel said it could be a week or so before a Ranger got to him, she was a bit surprised. Aleria knew that waiting periods could be long if there were lots of trainers going on runs, but that wasn't the case right now. This was a period of not enough Rangers and too many trainers. This was a dark period in the history of Rangering. Dark times were ahead.

Okay, so maybe Aleria was being a little over dramatic about the whole lack of Rangers thing. Just a little though. What could you expect from an overworked Ranger?

"Sorry," Aleria said as they followed after her Flareon. "I've been a little busy lately, so I haven't had much chance to let my Pokemon out. Usually they don't mind, but I guess Flare was really eager to get some fresh air."

Flare had run up alongside the side of the mountain. Of course she'd come this way and not go into the cave. Of course, there were other entrances to the inside of the mountain along the way, but Flare wasn't particularly interested in those just yet. When they found the Flareon, she was staring down a Geodude, who was floating in the air and staring down at the Fire type Eeveelution.

"Don't do anything, Flare. Geodude isn't ours to catch," she told her Pokemon. Flare let out a bark of approval. Aleria turned to Randel. "Does a Geodude interest you?"

Noticing the surprised look, Randel grimaced slightly only to dismiss it for the time being, thinking it was more due to the Eeveelution rushing off like it did. However, when he heard what was happening and why the Flareon darted off like it did, he nodded before finally climbing up with Blazer simply jumping from rock to rock without any trouble. Once there, he laughed a littled bit as he saw the floating rock with arms staring down the fiery fox before thinking about it for a while, "I don't think we ne-"

"Com! Bus! Ken!" Blazer suddenly shouted as it started to charge toward the rock and leap at it with both of its feet in the air, getting ready to kick it with both of them.

BP #1

Aleria was about to start walking past the Geodude to see if they could get away from it, but the Combusken that flew past her made her stop in her tracks. That really was one hyperactive chicken. As a Torchic, it probably wasn't terrifying at all. As a Combusken? Seeing one fly past you was a terrifying experience. Thankfully Aleria had stopped quick enough to not get hit by the chicken, but she didn't want to think about what could have happened.

"Guess we're fighting?" she asked, stepping back to stand next to Randel. "Unless you don't want it. We can still try to get away if you'd like."

Geodude hadn't been expecting the fight though. It was still staring down Flare when it took both kicks from Combusken to the side of its body. Flare let out a yelp of surprise before running over to join Aleria and Randel. If there was one thing Flare knew, it was to not get involved in a fight while Aleria was working. Just because the Flareon was going to make her life difficult today didn't mean she was going to interfere with the fight. This was Randel and his Combusken's fight, not hers and Flare's.

The Geodude retaliated by lifting up a large rock with jagged edges and throwing it at the Combusken. The rock hit the Fire and Fighting type Pokemon, though it didn't seem to bother Combusken at all. The next few rocks that were thrown at Combusken didn't seem to bother him either, though he was knocked back a bit by the next ones.

Laughing a little bit Randel seemed to be looking at Flare and Aleria before at Blazer while thinking quick, he knew that Blazer had energy and need to let it out now before they moved on in case the next Pokemon was one they were considering they wanted. Looking at the Geodude and then back Blazer, he seemed to be taking a deep breath of air before nodding toward the Combusken. Eventually, he seemed to be smiling as he said, "Blazer! Why don't you slow down the rock with some of those that he just threw at you with a Rock Tomb!"

"Combusk!" shouted the large chicken with a glint his eyes as he picked up a set of boulders and flung them at the floating rock type, making sure to use all of his power before chuckling.

"Come on, hit it and trap it," he thought to himself, knowing that Combusken needed to survive this battle and that thinking that once Combusken was calmed down enough to focus, he'd the PokéDoll to get away. The last thing he wanted to do was leave the Female Geodude fainted and vulnerable to others. Though, he carefully, made his way toward the Ranger and Flare, silently reaching into his bag to secretly prepare the doll.

 

BP #2

Aleria noticed the Poke Doll in Randel's hand. Good to know she wasn't entirely wrong in him wanting to get away from the Geodude. Her timing was off, but he was still planning on escaping.

The rocks Geodude had thrown towards Combusken earlier were now being used against her. One by one, the rocks hit the Geodude until she was pinned underneath them. Her rugged face was still able to be seen, but her body, for the most part, was trapped under the rocks. She would be able to get out, of course, but it likely wouldn't be any time soon. With the Poke Doll placed by the trapped Geodude, Flare ran off again, continuing her course up the mountain.

Aleria sighed. "Hopefully she runs out of energy by the end of all of this," she said as she started walking to follow after Flare. "Let's see what else there is here then."

Randel took a deep breath of air as Blazer seemed to have gotten calmed down by just that little bit of a battle as the boulders now blocked and trapped the Geodude as he tossed it towards her while the pair took off following Aleria and the excited Flare. Shaking his head and keeping pace with the Ranger, he laughed before saying, "Well, if she still has energy after all of this, maybe I'll take her with me one day to a PokéHomes restore session." As he mentioned that Blazer seemed to be smiling, still pumped up but not as pent up as before.

"Com...Combusk!" he shouted with a smile only then try to shout out what could best be understood as a 'wait up!' to the Eeveelution as he started to catch up, causing Randel to speed up to keep up with his Pokemon.

"Come on, Blazer!" he shouted with a laugh, "You silly bird..." only to try to keep an out to see any other Pokemon they want nearby.

NBP #4

Aleria smiled, grateful that the trainer she had right now was friendly. Thinking about it now, she wasn't sure if she could handle taking a pushy or impatient or otherwise rude trainer on a run. As they continued walking, Aleria perked up at the sound of this PokeHomes thing he'd mentioned. Flare was waiting outside of a cave, and when the Flareon saw them approaching, she ran into the cave.

"Chandelier, I'm afraid we're going to need your help," Aleria said as she released her Chandelure from her Poke Ball. "And keep an eye out for Flare. She's been running ahead of us today."

The chandelier-like Pokemon (Aleria wasn't very original with her Pokemon's nickname in this case, unfortunately) led the way into the cave. Aleria trusted that Flare would be alright on her own. She too was a Fire type and could spit out flames if she ever got lost (or couldn't see the large chandelier that illuminated the area and led the way). Once they were inside the cave, Aleria spoke up again. "What's this PokeHomes thing you mentioned earlier? I don't think I've really heard about it before."

Then again, most of her life these days usually revolved around the park, eating, and sleeping... and sometimes her Pokemon when she wasn't too exhausted from the park to take on runs.

Randel watched as they approached the cave Flare and Blazer were waiting in front of only to have the Eeveelution dart off again, causing Randel to shake his head until seeing the Chandelure being released to chase after. Thankfully, Blazer seemed to be actually staying and waiting for his trainer. Though, as Aleria asked about PokeHomes, a small smile formed on the Combusken's face, "Com com combusk! Combusken!" he said with great enthusiasm, as if thinking the Ranger would understand.

With a laugh himself, Randel smiled just as brightly before explaining, "PokeHomes, short for, as I'm sure you guessed, Pokemon Homes, is a Pokemon habitat program that runs off of volunteers. In much the same way you help out the Pokemon here in the Park, it allows others who have the heart and time to participate to help out Pokemon out in the wild. For example, a few years back there was a wildfire that happened about 30 miles from my house that caused different wild Pokemon to lose their homes. We went in, while the corporations and insurance took care of the people their Pokemon, to help find them new homes, assist in their health, and the like. Although, some of the Pokemon we help out do become attached to us, we aim to try to remove no more 5% of the Pokemon from the wild. That said, there are occasions where we do temporarily remove them to go to rehabilitation centers, such as ones with sever injuries, to be reintroduced, either in the same area or in a similar area, back into the wild."

Even the trainer's Combusken had been excited about PokeHomes. Based on his description, PokeHomes sounded like a genuinely interesting idea, and Aleria was grateful that there was an organization out there to help Pokemon that had their homes destroyed for whatever reason. "That sounds like an awesome thing!" she said, smiling. "I'd love to help out with it myself one day!"

Of course, that "one day" wouldn't be any time soon. With the park being so short staffed right now, Aleria likely wasn't getting any time off other than to fulfill her basic needs like eating and sleeping. A whole new wave of Rangers would have to come and relieve her from her efforts, and right now, she just didn't see that happening.

But one day, that would happen, and after her much needed vacation where the words "National Park" would never cross her mind, she would definitely go help these PokeHomes people.

Flare started yipping from ahead, and they were able to catch up to the Flareon after a moment. Chandelier's light shone not only on Flare, but it also shone on a little Sandshrew. The Sandshrew sat on the ground, its black eyes fixated on Flare and its tail wrapped around its body much like how a cat would sit. Flare was seated the same way, and her own black eyes were fixated on the Sandshrew.

"Looks like we've found a Sandshrew. You interested in it?" Aleria asked.

Randel seemed to be looking at Aleria for a while as she smiled and sounded very excited, yet heard the slight depression in her voice and decided to try to think about something to make her feel better before saying, "Well, maybe someday you might get some more Rangers." As he said that, he started to think about himself as a Ranger, he might be able to apply his PokeHome knowledge to help the Park out a bit more. While lost in that thought and following along, the Trainer suddenly heard the yipping and snapped to while running to catch up with her and Blazer to see the Sandshrew.

"Com! Combusk!" Blazer shouted while seeing the Ground-type armadillo-like Pokemon, looking like he really seemed interested in having her join the team. This time, the Combusken seemed to be a little bit calmer but still more than willing to fight as long as it took to convince the other to join.

Taking one look at his Pokemon and then the Sandshrew, he nodded toward the Ranger, "I think we'll try to take this one." With that he started to try to look around the dark cave, a little upset there wasn't too much light too see what they had to work with in terms of the battlefield.

Eventually, he managed to get an idea as he smirked, getting an idea as he looked at Blazer, I want you to try to trap the Sandshrew by knocking down some of the stalactites around it with Double Kick then follow it up with a Flare Blitz!

BP #3

Aleria sincerely hoped they would one day get more Rangers. She felt so overworked and so exhausted that it wasn't even funny. It was time to get some new Rangers around these parts and make them know what pain and suffering she'd gone through... okay, she was being a little dramatic here, but hey, better than being boring, right?

She wasn't sure who was more excited, the Combusken or Randel. Either way, she was glad that they were taking the time to fight this little Sandshrew with the intent to capture it. Aleria stepped back and motioned for her Flareon to come to her. Flare obeyed the hand motions, and the Flareon took a seat next to her trainer, eyes focused on the battle that was about to unfold. Chandelier tried to move into a position to allow for more light to be shed onto the battle, but with how quickly Combusken moved to initiate the moves Randel had called out, she couldn't keep up. At the very least, she was able to keep the light on Sandshrew, who was starting to dig a hole into the ground.

Unfortunately for the Sandshrew, she couldn't dig the hole fast enough. Combusken's Double Kick knocked down a few of the stalactites that were around the Sandshrew, and the little sand mouse was trapped. Standing in her partially dug hole, she tried to shift her body so that she could continue digging to try and avoid another attack from the Fire and Fighting type.

She still couldn't dig the hole fast enough. This Sandshrew was the little Sandshrew who couldn't. Combusken's Flare Blitz lit up the cave for a brief moment as he crashed into Sandshrew, sending both Pokemon tumbling into a rock. Both were dazed after the collision, but it all could have been worse. The stalactites that had formed a sort of cage around the Sandshrew had been broken in half by the Flare Blitz, so it wasn't much of a cage anymore.

Randel smiled brightly as he saw his plan to trap the Sandshrew in the 'cage' worked, as he saw the Flare Blitz turn around and cause Blazer to go headlong into the wall himself, cursed softly as he knew he had to redo the plan to make sure that none of the attacks would cause that damage again. Eventually, he started to look around for a while as he tried to think of another way before smirking as he looked around, trying to make sense about what direction they should go before seeing the ground. "Blazer!" he shouted, "Please listen to me. I want you to use Sand Attack then follow it up, while the sand is in the air, with your best Flamethrower, get it as hot as you can!"

The fire/fight type Combusken looked at Randel with a little bit of a disgust as it wanted to just stay on the offensive as Randel hoped the fire bird would understand his logic behind the attack. As narrow as the cave was, the sand would be impossible to avoid while, at the same time, the flame would cause the sand to do damage. Eventually the bird started to stir up the sand with his feet and began to kick at to send it towards the other Pokemon before taking a deep, long breath and then out came a massive stream of red-orange flame that trailed about 10 seconds behind the sand and eventually caught up with it.

Aleria smiled to herself when she heard Randel curse to himself. It seemed like trainers always forgot about the damage their Pokemon's moves could cause to them. Still, Randel's Combusken was a bit of a reckless Pokemon himself, so the reckless battle strategy actually made a bit of sense to Aleria.

Randel was toning it down a bit for the safety of his Combusken though. The Fire and Fighting type was one of two Pokemon Randel had brought with him; the other was a Shelgon. They were still relatively early in their run though, and losing Combusken now would be a little risky with three encounters left. Toning it down a bit was a good idea in Aleria's eyes.

She held up her arm to shield herself from any potential sand that may have blown into her eyes as Combusken kicked up sand towards the Sandshrew, who was shaking her head. Sandshrew was just recovering from the last round of attacks. She cried out when the sand got in her eyes and started rubbing at her eyes. When she opened them, she took a Flamethrower to the face, which caused her to stumble backwards into a rock.

Once she'd recovered from all of that, she kicked up a bit of sand herself. It wasn't enough to cause an actual sandstorm, but it was enough to distract the Combusken so that she could go in and strike back. Sandshrew threw her full weight -- and she didn't weigh much, only about twenty-six and a half pounds -- into the Combusken and knocked him over. Sandshrew leapt back to her feet after the attack, ready to defend herself a bit more now.

Randel gave a little bit of a cheer as he saw Blazer following his order, "There you go, Blazer!" he shouted while starting to tense up, shaking his head to get the sand out of his eyes before smiling brightly. Eventually, he started to see the little armadillo-like Pokemon shaking her head and then throwing herself at Blazer. The impact, although small, was sudden enough that it shocked both Trainer and Pokemon alike as he shouted out, "Come on, Blazer! Don't let that little girl get you on your butt!"

"Com! Combusk!" shouted the chicken as he looked at his Trainer.

Nodding silently, Randel knew what Blazer wanted to do, "Alright, Blazer! Time to use Flamethrower once again and then follow it up with a Fire Spin!"

"Cooooooooombuuuuuuuuskeeeeeeen!" Blazer shouted as it released a plume of fire from its mouth before starting to run at the Sandshrew, spinning around it closely while doing so. Eventually, the large chicken-like Pokemon managed to get the Flamethrower to form a nice a ring before stopping and jumping back while his Trainer decided to get a Park Ball ready, but didn't throw it yet.

It didn't seem like Combusken was too bothered by Sandshrew's attack. Combusken had been hit by her Body Slam, of course, but it didn't look like it did a whole lot.

With words of encouragement from his trainer, Combusken prepared for his next attack. He ran around the Sandshrew, spitting flames out of his mouth as he did so. Sandshrew spun around, stumbling a bit as she watched the chicken create the flames around her. At one point, she stumbled into the flames and yelped. A black mark had formed on her body, but it could have been worse.

She tried to kick up as much sand as she could to try and bring an end to the flames, but no matter how hard she tried, the little Sandshrew couldn't completely stop the flames. She took a Fire Spin to the face, which knocked her over and sent her tumbling out of the fiery ring that once surrounded her. As she stood, she winced. Aleria stepped forward a bit, squinting to see if the Sandshrew had been burned, but after a moment of examination, she shook her head and stepped back. "Not burned," she declared.

But definitely sandy as Sandshrew was able to kick up more sand and form it into a whirlwind. Aleria wasn't quite sure how she did it, but the whirlwind struck Combusken and trapped the chicken in it. "Sand Tomb," Aleria said. "Not sure how long your Combusken will be trapped in it, but it should be able to still attack and whatnot."

The circle of flames still burned in between the Pokemon, though they were starting to dissipate.

Randel watched and cheered as his beloved Blazer started to circle around the Sandshrew while entrapping her in a ring of fire, "You're doing great, Blazer!" he shouted with a loud cheer, echoing it through the cave as he tried to make sure that he could hear him.

In the midst of the Fire Spin, however, the Combusken was starting to see that the little armadillo-like Pokemon was trying to put out the fire and tried to increase both the speed of his movement and the speed of the fire from his beak. Unfortunately, once the Fire Spin was done and she was forced out of the ring of fire from the impact, the Sandshrew managed to hit him with a Sand Tomb, the sand causing him to get stuck in place.

"Come on! Shake it off!" shouted the Trainer as he tried to think of a way to help guide him out of the ensnaring whirlwind of sand and dust, but then Randal had an idea and tried to shout it out to him, "Blazer! Use the sand to help you out! Try to kick it away, aim it towards the Sandshrew, like a Sand Attack! Then., follow it up with a Double Kick!"

Hearing his Trainer, the chicken Pokemon nodded while using everything he could to kick and shake away the dust that was trapping him in place. Once enough of it was free, the Combusken then started to focus as best as he could through the remaining dust and fly itself towards the other Pokemon, feet ready to kick some Shrew bottom!
