URPG Podcast [Sign-ups open now]

I have been stupid and not mentioned something all this while!
SO lets say 1 fine evening you're bored, and you feel like doing something, so you go open up the podcast and then hear these people talk about stuff, and then you hear some really famous guy who is really good come on there and talk about the.. history of URPG or some stories behind the URPG or his way to becoming famous... Or you hear someone else who just became a ref come on and talk about this... So it could have more implications that Just the News.

 

Chances are if they had an opinion, they would have posted it in the thread, and we would have read it some time ago, ranging from hours, to days. On top of that, but getting a guest on the show could be pretty difficult.

 

Technology has improved in what field? The you telling me stuff I already know field?

We didn't have anything like this before in text, podcast, or video form because we don't NEED it. And most of us don't WANT it.

The URPG Newsletter fell through because it was an idea that is not needed AT ALL and it was completely pointless.

 

Mm. At this point, no, there isn't a particular need for a podcast of any sort. We need to keep in mind, though, that new members don't necessarily know the ropes. When there are five or so "new members" about, not a lot of considerations need to be made for them... but when we have a significant number of newbies who don't necessarily know the entirety of what they're participating in, how it works, what's going to be happening in the future (i.e., potential SWC or Gift Stations), or limits and rules and why we have them, something to the extent of an informative podcast definitely couldn't hurt. Might help 'em out.

There's also the fact that a decent (if minority) number of those newbies want a podcast, and have expressed an interest in tuning in. Semi-popular desire certainly isn't a good reason to institute something that has bureaucratic consequences; a podcast, though, isn't all that significant one way or another. Additionally, ignoring the more more "initiatable" suggestions made by the "newer generation" is folly. If some people want it, and a few people are willing to potentially waste an hour or two by helping to get something semi-stable up and running, we can if it does any good. If it doesn't turn out to provide any long-run benefits, well, a few people wasted two six hundred thousand five hundredths of their time on earth. How horrifying.

 

If we're going to do a podcast/youtube (the latter seeming kind of hectic since you can only have 10 minute videos on youtube so it would have to be split up), then it should be more of a recreational entertainment, not something that is boring, dry and full of information that we can easily read through on the forums. Sure, we could tell the things of the current, but as well as shout out things that were interesting on AIM or the winner of an FFA that was funny (ie. Magikarp, Luvdisc). Things less 'public' that not everywhere had the chance to see. Or things that are going to happen in the future: Gift Stations, tournaments, whatever else is going on.

If it were just to be things that happened in the past week, things would get boring; as Pidge said, some of it would need to be for shits and giggles. There's a need for these shits and giggles because of what numerous people have said, "there is no clear reason for this," rather it would be for fun more than for an 'educational' purpose. If it's taken too seriously no one will really want a part in it since then it'll seem like everything is set in stone, but rather if it's just made on the run or with a small outline of what to talk about and it seems more like 5 friends chatting with each other it'll be more entertaining for both the listeners and the people doing the podcast.

Also there should be 2/3 people who are the hosts and then 2/3 people who come on the podcast each week/months/whatever interval.

 

I personally think both sides here make great points so I figure I will make a good point of my own. If you think this is a bad idea and a waste of time then you are by no means required to download or listen to the podcast or watch the youtube video. If you think it is a good idea, well then there it is for you.

I will more than likely not download a podcast and listen to it. Not because I think it is a bad idea, because I don't think that. I don't think it isn't necessary for everyone, but I think some people will enjoy it and possibly benefit from it. I won't download it because it is simply faster for me to learn something from the forum. I don't have the time or patience for podcasts. If it was youtube I might go watch it, hell I might participate in it, but mostly just for the funny bits that are sure to work their way in.

I don't think anyone really thinks this is 100% needed, but I'm sure we can all agree that at the very least it will be fun for the people involved and that makes it not a complete waste of time either.

 

I admittedly skimmed a lot of the defending posts, but I don't think a need for shits and giggles was denied. I assumed it would be mostly composed of 'em, as is the tone of URPG in general. The lineup we have now isn't going to take a particularly serious turn at any point, especially if the people we have lined up for conversation remain who I have in mind for recruitment. The point isn't the information; that's kinda pointless, as it's all easily accessible (as everyone's said). It's the conversation.

 

I never said anything bashing negative reasponce. I just said that if HKim approved it, then its not COMPLETLY pointless.

 

I'm down with this idea, and like Scourge mentioned, the point is really more about the conversation. Obviously, there has to be content, but I think a podcast/YouTube channel/whatever is a new direction for the forum, and if it doesn't pan out, hopefully we had fun doing it.

In other words, definitely interested as an occasional participant in the recording and volunteering to mix/master the recordings.

Flammenwerfer sounds like the scariest Pedophile I've ever heard. That said, that was the best podcast ever done.

 

All that said, there were some problems with the recording. ...So, uh, we don't actually have the podcast to share.

 

As long as all the podcasts are like that... I've completely changed my mind. There has to be a special installment for Flammen though. His erotic reading bloc or something. That was so wrong, it was just right.

 

We're going to have to have a once-per-month special where he reads smutty Pokémon fanfictions....

 

AAAAGH! I wants to see teh podcast! This sounds awesome! I'd rather do podcasts btw.

 

Okay, so, for the sake of organization and effectiveness, we're rallying our thoughts 'n stuff. Podcast recording will be postponed for roughly a week. We will have a preview of an eventual pilot podcast out at some point.

 

Sorry for the inconvinience guys, we had some recording issues after which we had "no-repetition issues" so we're going to try later.
