Trial Mission 2.0

Alright, this is too good an idea to have laid inactive for so long like it has. I'm rebooting the Trial Mission - that is to say, it'll be the same Mission (seeing as we didn't get past the first battle), and the same participants (as long as Gliscorman still wants to do it), but with Bumblebee replacing kanga. So, here are the rules again, please post sign-up sheets and we'll get this thing running. I realise two posts a day was kinda nuts, so this time I'd like three a week from everyone - I don't think that's overdoing it.

Pokemon Mission - Poochyena Siege!
Party Size = 3 (Evanfardreamer, Gliscorman, Bumblebee)
Pokemon Limit = 3 (No fully evolved Pokemon)

Character Details: (Look at the the sign-up sheets in the National Park for examples)
Price: (Ignore that for now, but I assume you will have to pay to do these Missions, but that's not to be discussed here)
Pokemon List: (Again, follow the National Park Template)
Skill Levels: (For dual-Typed Pokemon, please note which of its types you are utilising to affect your Skill levels.)
Item List: (Seeing as we don't have a functioning Mart as of yet, let's just say each Trainer gets 5x Potion, 2x Super Potion, 4x Full Heal, and 1x Revive)
Other: (Just in case I've forgotten something)

You must only use Pokemon you own in the URPG to maximise realism, but you may temporarily devolve your Pokemon, just for this test. If you Pokemon has moves either naturally or added that it cannot use in it's pre-evolved state, it will not be able to use them for the Mission. For example, if I devolved my Gallade to a Kirlia, it would not be able to use either Night Slash or Bulk Up. Also, don't forget to post questions or comments in the discussion thread, not here.

It's a lovely day in Oldale Town. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and you can hear the river on the other side of the forest bubbling merrily away. The clock on the wall outside the Pokemon Center reads 10:05 - it's time to move on to Petalburg City and challenge Norman for the Balance Badge. You notice that your two companions have fallen in beside you.

Your two companions have been with you for the last four days. You are all aspiring Pokemon League champions, and you banded together to be able to afford the Route 103 ferry. You haven't yet decided if you like your companions yet, but so far they haven't done anything to earn disrespect either. By unspoken agreement, you have all agreed to stick together as far as Petalburg City just in case you happen to stumble across one of Hoenn's criminal factions. This wouldn't normally be a worry, but they have been more active than usual recently.

You are just about to head onto Route 102 when a brightly coloured flyer stuck to the town messageboard catches your eye. You walk over to it and take a look. It reads:

Are YOU a Pokemon Trainer?
Do YOU want adventure?
Would YOU like to be rewarded for said adventure?
Head on down to Littleroot Town
and meet PROFESSOR BIRCH today!​

It sounds like a pretty good proposition. The Gym Challenge has only just started, so there's plenty of time to spare. Littleroot Town is only a short walk out of the way, and Professor Birch is a well-respected Gym Leader. He might have advice on how to take down Norman. Also, the mention of a reward for completing some tasks sounds good, being a beginning Trainer you don't have much money to spare.

You shoot a look at your companions. You're not sure if you should make the side-trip, but it does sound rewarding. Perhaps you should discuss it as a group to see who wants to and who doesn't.

(OOC: Again, remember, the side-trip is the Mission. This is just for character-establishment purposes.)

 

I read the notice again in my head. I wasn't going to turn this down. I wasn't really sure what this side adventure would bring, but I knew it would help me get stronger and help grow the bond that my Pokemon and I shared. I was going to need that if I ever wanted to stand a chance in beating all the gyms and taking down the Elite Four. I knelt down on one knee next to my small four-legged companion. The Fire and Dark type Pokemon looked into my eyes, telling my he wanted to do this even before I had asked; he already knew.

"What do you think boy?" I asked Shadow anyways. "We should take it right?" Shadow barked happily three times. He wagged his tail and nodded in agreement. With that, I stood up and pulled out my dark grey cap and black sunglasses from my backpack and threw them on. I looked up at the sky and saw the sun shining bright. There were no dark clouds in sight so the traveling weather was just right. I couldn't think of an excuse not to go. With the Gym Challenge only just starting, I had a bit of time to do this side journey. I could use this time for training as well.

"Well, we're going, what about you guys?" I asked, adjusting my cap. "The weather is nice, and I'm sure it won't take too long. Might be good training as well. Also, does anyone got a map we can look at? Mine kind of got destroyed in the rain last time; I should have gone digital instead of using an old fashion paper map. I don't think Littleroot town is far from here."​

 

Kyle wandered over to where his two companions were standing and noticed that they were looking at a map that was lying on the table. Then, hearing something about a vote, he examined a notice that they had taken with them.

He glanced through it and was mildly impressed. An adventure right next to where they were. Perfect. They'd be done and back by dinner.

"I think," Kyle said, "That we should try it out."

 

"I agree," Evan said, folding his regional map back up. "And besides, I'm not one to turn down a reward - my funds are a bit wiped out from that ferry ride, and it would be nice to have some spending money again.

"Besides, I think my little friend could use some exercise. Come on out, Legend!"

Evan drew a Pokeball from his belt; pressing the center button, he enlarged it from storage mode, then released an orange canine Pokemon with black stripes and cream-colored fur at its throat, stomach, mane and tail.

The Growlithe barked happily; then seeing another canine Pokemon, he wandered over and sniffed at the Houndour.

Having unanimously decided to travel to Littleroot Town, the Party turns left, and instead of taking the relatively well-groomed trail to Petalburg City they head for the much smaller and wilder path leading south. The townspeople smile and wave at the group as they pass the Pokemon Center - many other Trainers are around Oldale Town at this time of year due to the Gym Challenge. Trainers are always welcome here because of the tourism money they bring with them.

Route 101 is is a rocky, grassy trail that winds downward into a forest. In the very centre of the forest sits Littleroot Town, but it will be a good half an hour's walk before you will make it there. Since there's no rush though, you stroll leisurely along the path, enjoying the peaceful sounds of the forest. Suddenly, you hear a shout of alarm. You shrug and dismiss it. It was probably someone sitting on a patch of damp grass.

You hear the shout again. You unconsciously quicken your pace, and then you hear a scream. Breaking into a run, you turn a corner in the path and are greeted by a strange sight. A young man is sitting on the ground, clutching his ankle. Not far from him is a group of Poochyena, growling fiercely. You have no idea why the Poochyena seem to be attacking him, but nonetheless, you better fight them off. You can find out what has happened when the man is safe.

Encounter One

Placement - Agility + Wilderness Survival + Dexterity Roll (1-5)

((What you have to do now is choose where you want your Trainer avatar to start. You can choose to start on any square that has a value that is equal to or lower than your Placement Score. Once that is done, you may also choose to release a Pokemon on an adjacent square. For example, Evan can start on square D10 and release one of his Pokemon on squares C10, E10, D9, or D11. This second step is optional - you do not have to send out a Pokemon if you do not want to. I think the best way to do this is to do the roleplay part first and then put your actual commands inside double brackets like I have here so there will be no misunderstandings. Please note that just like in the National Park, the quality of your roleplaying will affect both the Mission and the Encounters.))

 

"I don't recognize those Pokemon," Evan said. He pulled out his black Pokedex, flipping it open and aiming it at the nearest of the small grey and black creatures.

"Poochyena," his Pokedex chirped, "the Bite Pokemon. Relies on the strength of its jaw for offense and defense. Commonly affiliated with the Dark type, Bug and Fighting moves are more effective than usual."

Evan smiled. Stepping forwards, he called out in a loud voice, "Stay back from this human; we don't want to have to hurt you, but we'll do what we need to protect him." Drawing a Pokeball from his belt, he aimed it at the ground near his feet and released a large, green humanoid Pokemon. Translucent wings sprouted from its back, and its forearms ended in sharp scythes. A predatory intelligence stared from its eyes, sizing up the opponents.

"This is my friend Scyther, and if you attack that boy you'll have to answer to him," Evan said with confidence.

((Step forward to E-10, bring out Scyther to square F-10))

 

"I don't recognize those Pokemon," Evan said, bringing out his Pokedex. I knew who these Pokemon were. They were black four-legged Dark typ Pokemon almost similar to Shadow, except Shadow was a Dark and a Fire type Pokemon.

"Poochyena," Evan's Pokedex said, "the Bite Pokemon. Relies on the strength of its jaw for offense and defense. Commonly affiliated with the Dark type, Bug and Fighting moves are more effective than usual."

"You won't only have to answer to his Scyther, but to Shadow as well. We can't let you guys hurt him." I called out. Shadow let out a loud growl and brought his head towards the ground as he prepared to pounce.

"I hope we don't have to fight them boy, but be prepared in case we do." I whispered to him. "They don't look like they're willing to back down. I wonder what he did to disturb them. He probably accidently stumbled into their territory. If that's the case then they won't back down so we'll have to defend him until they can calm down and realize they can't win or pass out from exhaustion, which I hope doesn't have to come."

(Step forward to B-1o and put Shadow on square A-1o) ​

 

Kyle gazed down upon the scene and analyzed it thoroughly. Silently, he formed a deep strategy that would probably work.

"The Poochyena closest to the group is priority #1," he thought. "Then I keep working my way through the pack, but I have to be positive that they will not hang back and prepare themselves."

He noticed Evan next to him pull out a Nincada.

"Good," he thought. "The type advantage will be useful."

He decided to follow suit and release a Pokemon next to him. He racked his mind to determine how far each of their attacks will go and which Pokemon to best use the slope to its advantage.

"Magneton!" He said with a hint of determination. "I choose you."

(Standing on D 11, sending Magneton onto C 10.)

“Scyther, Go! Block those Poochyena from getting to that man, but don’t hurt them unless they attack you!”

Evan watched the Mantis Pokémon zip down the slope, seeming to fly with its insectoid wings. Planting itself in front of the lead Poochyena, he crossed his scythe-tipped arms and blurred into motion, darting back and forth in a line. Ethereal images of the Pokémon appeared as it moved, creating a veritable wall of illusions of itself.

“Great job on the Double Team, good idea!” Evan called. “Leo, Kyle, let’s see if we can’t drive them off without injuring them too much!”

"Magneton," Kyle ordered. "Do what Evan said. Drive them back."

Magneton, hearing the orders, then charged down the slope, its three Magnemite chattering with electricity. After zooming down the slope and coming to a rest in a defensible location, it gathered energy around it. In a flash, there was a second Magneton in front of the real one. It had used Substitute.

Good work, I thought. Perhaps this battle may go in our favor.
