Alright, reffing section is done. Starts out with general Pokemon mechanics, expands into URPG specific knowledge of the battling section which can be found in the relevant threads.

    Ref Quiz:

Anyone attempting this section should first familiarize themselves with the URPG Reffing Encyclopedia, the Ultra-Dex and the URPG Reffing Calculator

    1. Explain what Sun and Rain do to the moves Thunder and Solarbeam.
    A. Thunder: Accuracy reduced to 50% in Sun, will always hit in Rain. Solarbeam: Charge-up turn removed in Sun, power reduced to 60 in Rain.

    2. What types of Pokemon are immune to Poison?
    A. Poison and Steel

    3. Define STAB. Explain when it occurs, and what effect it has.
A: STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus. It occurs when a Pokemon uses a move that matches one of its own types, increasing the power of the move by 50%.

    4. What priority do the following actions take:
    Quick Attack? +1
    Switching your Pokemon? +7
    Roar? -6

    5. A Pokemon moves second in a turn and uses Reflect. Does that turn count for Reflect's duration?
    A. Yes

    6. What does Life Orb increase specifically?
    A. The raw damage dealt.

    7. Thunderbolt is used on a Jolteon with Volt Absorb. What happens? Can it be paralyzed by the attack?
    A. Jolteon heals for 25%. No.

    8. How do you calculate the health gained by Leech Seed?
    A. Leech Seed restores 12.5% or 1/8th of the max HP of the seeded Pokemon.

    9. How long does the sandstorm caused by Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability last?
    A. Indefinitely/Until another weather takes its place.

    10. What chance do you have to snap from confusion, and when?
    A. You have a 25% chance to snap out of confusion during the second to fifth turns of the effect. After five turns you are guaranteed to snap.

    11. A Lapras with has had its Accuracy lowered 1 level. What is the chance for the moves Ice Beam and Sheer Cold to hit?
    A. 75%/30%

    12. In what order do the following effects happen: Poison damage, Weather damage, Leftovers healing
    A. Weather, Leftovers, Poison

    13. What does the Sleep Clause prevent from occurring?
    A. Sleep Clause prevents more than one Pokemon on a team from being put to sleep. Any attempt to do so will fail.

    14. How many moves does a freshly bought Charmander know? What is the maximum it can learn once it has evolved into Charizard?
    A. 15/111

    15. How do you determine between a Physical and Special attack when using the calculator?
    A. Using the Attack Type drop down menu.

    16. How would you deal with a trainer who attempts to use a TM move that you think they might not have taught their Pokemon?
    A. Check their stats. If their Pokemon doesn't know it, tell them and ask for a different move.

    17. How much money do the battlers get when a 6v6 battle ends in a draw? How much does the ref receive?
    A. $1500 each, $3000 for ref.

    18. Which badges do you need to challenge an E4 member in the URPG?
    A. Any complete set of 8 from one of the 5 regions.

    Guys, your submissions, please.

That's fantastic Monbrey, I think 18 is a little too many though - we don't want to scare potential refs off by making reffing look like a big hard complicated thing. I mean, it is, but we don't want to make it look that way xD

That's very much what I was thinking when it started getting long, but at the same time I wasn't really doubling up on much. I originally wanted 10-15, but then was thinking "Oh I haven't included that". If you want to shorten it, remove question 2, and maybe 16 and 18. The URPG specific stuff I don't consider as important as mechanics for aptitude, that's more along the lines of actually becoming a ref. However I still think a few should be included, because it shows an interest in the URPG battles and not just Pokemon.

Yeah I think it's called that. Is there any chance we could rename it, Alaska? Some may take offence to being called a "newbie".

From memory, the only way it was possible was through a glitched application. I remember Mav messing around with the URPG chat in that way. I don't think there's an actual AIM Blast control for it, though I'm not sure. I can't see anything on the website for the Blast chat I own.

Sorry, I've been in Lazy Gman Mode.

The URPG Contest Section consists of three sections. They are R/S/E, D/P/DPt and B/W. R/S/E and D/P/DPt are similar, however B/W is a completely new way to earn Contest Credit and Ribbons. After reading up about the B/W Section and you think that you could be a B/W Judge, here is a small quiz to test yourself. Please remember that to become a B/W Judge, you need to have a reffing licence before you can apply.

To answer the questions, it’s advisable to read through these links:

    Questions

Q1) What type of attribute is Pikachu?

    Q2) What are Power Points?

Q3) If a Pidgeot uses the move Brave Bird, how many Points and Power Points will it gain and loose.

Q4) A switched in Tauros has just knocked out a Tryanitar with the move Skull Bash, how many Points will Tauros gain.

Q5) How many points do you gain if you win a battle?

Q6) These were the last scores of a battle:

Using the equation to determine the winner, post the scores of the winning team. Please note that for the Primary Score, the Pokemon scored 0.

If you are stuck with any questions, feel free to PM me, gmandiddy.

Nah, we need more Judges, welcome aboard. Try to get your referee license if possible - we're dying for a Judge who is rated for ALL kinds of Contests.

    EDITED.

    - Removed question 1 and replaced it with something actually relevant to judging.
    - Reworded some of the questions that SLC already had to make them clearer.
    - Moved and renumbered questions so that 1 & 2 are on general judging, 3 - 7 are on R/S/E rules and 8 - 11 are on D/P/Pt rules. GROUPING IS FUN.
    - Replaced SLC's question 5 with a D/P/Pt question.

SLC had got some of the basics down, but focused a little too much on RSE rules -- although it's the preferred mode of Contests, it's equally useful to know your DPPt. Hopefully SLC doesn't disagree with my changes. >:

    URPG Aptitude Test

Hello everyone, and welcome to the URPG! This is the URPG Aptitude Test, a list of questions that are typical for each of the URPG professions. Please feel free to take a look and try them out by yourself, or ask in the Newbie Blast Chat for help from a Mentor! Just contact any of the below Mentors to be invited into the Newbie Blast Chat, a positive learning environment where you can freely ask for any help you might want or need.

    Approved Mentors:
ChainReaction01 (Referee, Grader, Ranger, Judge (all))
    WinterVines (Referee, Grader, Ranger)
    Monbrey (Referee, Judge (all))
    Alaskapigeon (Referee, Grader)
    Gmandiddy (Referee, Ranger, Judge (B/W))
AmericanTreeFrog (Referee, Grader, Ranger, Judge (all))
    SLC (Judge (RSE, DPPt))
Buoy (Grader, Ranger, Judge (RSE, DPPt))

    Referee Questions

Referees are responsible for the most important part of the URPG - the Pokemon battles. In the URPG, when two Trainers decide to battle, they find a neutral third party - a Referee - to do all the behind-the-scenes work. Without Referees there would be no URPG! If you're interested in keeping the URPG active (and earning a load of cash to boot) consider the below questions and contact a Mentor who is a qualified Referee.

    1. Explain what Sun and Rain do to the moves Thunder and Solarbeam.

    2. What types of Pokemon are immune to the Poison status affliction?

    3. Define STAB. Explain when it occurs, and what effect it has.

    4. What priority do the following actions take; Quick Attack? Switching your Pokemon? Roar?

    5. A Pokemon moves second in a turn and uses Reflect. Does that turn count for Reflect's duration?

    6. Thunderbolt is used on a Jolteon with Volt Absorb. What happens? Can it be paralyzed by the attack?

    7. How do you calculate the health gained by Leech Seed?

    8. How long does the sandstorm caused by Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability last?

    9. A Lapras with has had its Accuracy lowered 1 level. What is the chance for the moves Ice Beam and Sheer Cold to hit?

    10. In what order do the following effects happen: Poison damage, Weather damage, Leftovers healing

    11. What does the Sleep Clause prevent from occurring?

    12. How do you determine between a Physical and Special attack when using the calculator?

    13. How much money do the battlers get when a 6v6 battle ends in a draw? How much does the ref receive?
    A. $1500 each, $3000 for ref.

    14. Which badges do you need to challenge an E4 member in the URPG?

    Grading Questions

The cheapest, easiest way to capture powerful Pokemon in the URPG is to write and post a piece of fanfiction, commonly known around here as a "Story". Graders evaluate the stories submitted and compare them against some criteria to determine whether they are of high enough quality to deserve the Pokemon being written for. If you're in love with the written word and want help the distribution of Pokemon, take a look at the below questions and contact a Grading Mentor.

    1. Which of the following is correct?

    A) Its a nice day outside I think I'll play with Jane.
    B) It's a nice day outside, I think I'll play with Jane.
    C) It's a nice day outside I think I'll play with Jane.
    D) Its a nice day outside, I think I'll play with Jane.

    2. Which is the correct use of a colon?

    A) I have three dogs: they are all so cute.
    B) I read the book: The Wind in the Willows
    C) I need the following things from the grocery store: milk, sugar, eggs, bread, and cheese.
    D) All of the above.

    3. What is the most important part of a story?

    6. True or false, a story below the base character limit always fails.
    A) True
    B) False

    7. What story rank is Scyther?

    A) Medium
    B) Hard
    C) Complex
    D) Demanding

    8. What is the minimum character requirement for a Basic Pokemon?

    Rangering Questions

The National Park is the roleplaying area of the URPG, where Rangers escort Trainers through the perils and wonders of the many different areas inside. This is a great alternative to writing Stories if you like roleplaying. If you love roleplaying, earning good money and you want to belong to the closest-knit family in the URPG, consider applying to be a Ranger today! Contact any Mentor qualified to teach Rangering.

    1) A Trainer is deliberately damaging the environment with his Blaziken while battling a Scizor, hoping to gain an advantage by doing so. Is this acceptable?

    2) In which area of the National Park is Litwick found?

    3) Imagine a Trainer is battling a wild Bulbasaur with their Squirtle, and the Bulbasaur launches a Razor Leaf attack. Assume that Squirtle has not battled yet. How much health will it have afterward if the Trainer orders Squirtle to try and shoot down the leaves with Water Gun in a
    high-quality post?

    4) While randomly rolling a list of Pokemon for a Trainer to encounter, you notice there are some species that are repeated. This list in particular contains 3 Magnemite, 2 Magneton, and 3 Magnezone. Which of these Pokemon should be rerolled (if any)?

    5) Should Venomoth be damaged by a basic Earthquake attack?

    6) How do you think Gothitelle's Frisk Ability actually works?

    7) What will happen if a Trainer commands their Swampert to use Ice Beam if it has a Lax Nature?

    8) A Trainer is battling a Gardevoir with their Camerupt. The Trainer commands a combo of Amnesia, Earthquake, and Fire Blast. What's an acceptable response attack by the Gardevoir?

    9) What does the Digital Camera Zoom Lens do?

    Judging Questions

Contests are an alternative form of competitive battling that are relatively new to the URPG. There are three types: RSE, DPPt, and BW. RSE follows the Contests from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. DPPt is an edited version, concentrating more on tactics and planning as opposed to move combos. Finally, BW is more similar to battles, but with a scoring and PP limitation system. If you enjoy battling but want something with a little more kick, try out a Contest today, and if you like what you see, apply to become a Judge! Please note you need to be a qualified Referee to Judge BW Contests.

    1) There are five acting (performance) rounds in both R/S/E and D/P/Pt rules. True or false?

    2) Which two attributes is Cool incompatible with?

    3) In R/S/E rules, how many hearts would a user receive if they used Sucker Punch when in position 1 in a Cute Contest?

    4) In R/S/E rules, how many hearts total would a user receive if they used Fire Punch in one round and Ice Punch the following round?

    5) In R/S/E rules, a user uses Tackle three times in a row. What is the heart penalty on the third use, if there is any?

    7) In R/S/E rules, a Pokémon uses a move that may cause the others to become nervous. What is the chance (in %) of a Pokémon with 2 condition stars being too nervous to appeal?

    8) In D/P/Pt rules, how many bonus hearts do you get for being the only one to perform to a judge?

    9) In D/P/Pt rules, a Venusaur maximises the Voltage of a side judge, while a Blastoise maximises the Voltage of the lead judge. How many appeal hearts does Venusaur receive, and how many appeal hearts does Blastoise receive?

    10) In D/P/Pt, a user tries to perform with Tail Whip twice consecutively. What happens?

    11) In D/P/Pt, the performance order of a round is highest scores to lowest scores gained in the previous round. True or false?

    12) In B/W, which attribute type is Pikachu?

    13) In B/W, what are Power Points? How do they affect the Contest?

    14) In B/W, if a Pidgeot uses the move Brave Bird, how many Points and Power Points will it gain and lose respectively?

    15) In B/W, a switched in Tauros has just knocked out a Tyranitar with the move Skull Bash. How many Points will Tauros gain?

    16) How many points do you gain if you win a battle?

    17) These were the last scores of a battle:

    Matt: Blissey 100% +30 [210PP]
    Sarah: Golduck 0% +39 [120PP]

Using the equation to determine the winner, post the scores of the winning team. Please note that for the Primary Score, the Pokemon scored 0.
