Um, sort of building on that team idea, why not have some sort of URPG olympics? Events for each section would grant points to a team and the team with the most points overall would win. For example there could be a tournament, or a weekly battle thing like above, a writing festival, an RP contest I guess??? maybe a battle in RP or something along those lines?, a festival too. Maybe even an art section too? This way it would support a culmination of all of the sections of the URPG and encourage unity between the sections.

I made a write up for this a long time ago, but once the move to TPW was announced, I figured it'd be too busy. If people are interested int he idea though, I could post my write up here.

    PLEASE EXCUSE THE NARRATIVE.

The URPG is comprised of many talented individuals. Some of us are brilliant tacticians, able to wipe out entire teams in only a few moves. Others are story tellers who craft epics that rival the novellas of Steinbeck and Hemingway. Still others are best at role playing, taking on new personas like we might put on a hat. Several are amazing coordinators who can use moves and Pokemon in ways that not even the Elite 4 can. More than a few are artists, either of traditional mediums or through designing software. But why do we compete? The story is as old as the URPG itself.

In the beginning, there was White Rider, and White Rider was with URPG, and White Rider was URPG. One day, in the time of White Rider's rule, the gods themselves descended from the heavens. "There are many among you," Zeus decreed, "but only one of you can be the best, like no one ever was."

"To please us," Ra added, "you must fight each other, to find out who is the strongest among you."

Cthulu made a sound suspiciously like Zoidberg, but more frightening, "WUWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWU!"

'How do we select the champions, the greatest of the greats, the best among URPGers?' the Old Ones asked.

    THE URPG OLYMPICS-Summer of 2012
    [IMG]

Contestants will form teams ranging from a minimum of three to seven members. These teams will have to register in a sign-up thread at least 24 hours before the start of the games. The actual events will take place as following:

Battling: A tourney specifically for this event will be set up. For every player a person beats, a certain amount of points will be awarded (factors affecting amount of points to be determined). At the end, those points are added to their team score.

Stories: A knock-out style writing competition. There will be several rounds, the amount determined by how many stories are entered. It will involve a kind of play-off competition where two stories are voted on every day (picked at random) to decide which is the very best.

Role Playing: There can be a park event based around how many Pokemon can be caught in a set amount of time. Judges for the event can give extra points for creativity or dock them for lack of effort.

Contests: A contest tourney will be set up, with points awarded depending on how one scores in the different kinds of contests (R/S/E, D/P/Pt, and B/W)

Art: Because the rt category is so new, the competition for this section is TBA, but will likely be similar to the stories competition.

To sign up for an event, one must be a member of a team. You can't participate in an event without signing up (to prevent, for example, people in the battle tourney from challenging newbies and beating them over and over). Once the games have started, it is impossible to sign up for new events.

At the end of the games, points will be tallied up for each event, and handed out to each team. Additional points will be given out for various achievements (like the person who completes the most battles, etc) The team with the most points wins bragging rights, money and possibly a Pokemon of rank to be determined, for each member. Individual prizes will be handed out as well (such as most points earned, etc).

The suggested length of the games will be one month, set some time during the summer of 2012.

Seriously, though, let's do this. I need someone from each section to handle the competition there. And if you're not the head or a senior member of that section (idk what else to call it) then you've gotta get permission from your section head(s). MEETING OF NATIONS LETS GO.

Uh, what is it exactly you want? This is for tournament discussion. If you want to develop some kind of URPG Olympics take it to another thread, this is for random ideas. If you want help with developing the Park section, I'd be happy to help ^^

^mfw when most URPGers live in the states.....

Also, Syn, I will bring back the World Cup Tourney 6 months before the real World Cup (assuming I'm still here in Dec of 2013)

And right now I'm not feeling particularly creative for tournaments so someone else come up with a half-decent one at least.
What I do have an idea for is a massive Forum FFA, which I will go ahead and provide information on, in the following pixels.....

Basically the playing field is like a Rubix Cube. 6 sides, 9 spaces per side....well 8 spaces is more like it, I have plans for the center part of each side. It would look close enough to this. Where "X" is the space for one player and "0" is a Teleport Pad to move from face to face.

    Face 1. Face 2. Face 3. Face 4. Face 5. Face 6
    X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X |
    X 0 X | X 0 X | X 0 X | X 0 X | X 0 X | X 0 X |
    X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X | X X X |

This allows for a max of up to 48 players. Additional faces can be added if need be or even taken out.
The "0" is used to teleport from one side to another. In order to use it, there must be at least one "X" space unoccupied.

    Now for the actual gameplay:
Contact Moves: Can only hit someone directly adjacent to you. Ex: Grass Knot, Drain Punch, etc
Special Moves: Can hit anyone in the same face of the cube you are on. Ex: Flamethrower, Psyshock
"Other" Moves: These are the ones that affect an opponent, but don't deal damage. They'll count as Special. Ex. Encore, Taunt, Roar

    *Special circumstance moves
    1. Moves such as Earthquake or Surf would hit everyone one the the face in which it was used. So someone on Face 1 uses EQ, faces 2-6 would not be affected by it.
    2. Additionally, moves like Aura Sphere, Shockwave, Magical Leaf, etc, can be sent between faces. So someone from Face 2 uses Faint Attack on someone that's in Face 5, then it'll work.
    3. Weather would also remain exclusive to the side in which it was used on, so it's possible to have all the weathers active at once on the Rubix Cube.
    4. Moves such as Roar, Dragontail, etc, can possibly send you into another face on the Rubix Cube. (The teleport pad must be open). In the event that it isn't, roar would fail, but Dragon Tail would still cause damage. Dragon Tail falls under Physical, so it can only hit someone next to you. Roar and Whirlwind ("Other" --> Special) can hit anyone on your playing field.
    5. Helping Hand can affect anyone, anywhere on the cube.
    6. Metronome's move will fall under the respective category it falls under.

Other stuff that Pidge asked me about
    1. Volt Switch and UTurn: Please refer to contact/special moves
    2. Moving a space: Counts as a move with same priority as a typical move. AKA: zero, so Quick Attack will hit you before you move, and Dragon Tail would miss you.
    3. Being trapped (Ingrain, Mean look, etc): You can't escape from the side of the cube on which you are on. For Ingrain, you can't move from the slot you are in, AT ALL!
    4. Perish Song: Banned unless there is a majority that overrules this.
    5. How will turns be based with Trick Room in effect: I would use reciprocal numbers to determine speed values.

So let's say on Face 1 there is a Speed Deoxys with speed+6 (Total of 1836) and on face 3 there is a Husnain with regular speed (Total of 70) with TR in effect on face 3 and on face 6 there is a Shuckle with Speed-2 (Total of 54)
With the reciprocal system here are the speed values which determine the turn
    Deoxys: .00054
    Husnain: .014
    Shuckle: .018
The smaller the number, the faster the mon. So Deoxys goes first, Husnain in TR goes second, and Shuckle goes last. (Assuming the priority of their moves was zero)
EDIT: Ran into a small problem with my decimal-based system :/
    EDIT2: I think I might've solved the issue, but further experiments must be done to ensure accuracy! I don't wanna post my idea here if it's gonna make me look more like a nub ;_;

I'm considering the use of Entry Hazards.
Discuss that topic as well as other and ask me any questions you may have regarding this.

Didn't last time we tried something with moving and different positions and stuff, it failed completely?

Not saying I don't like the idea, I just don't know if it's plausible.
