Hmm... Good point, ATF and Winter...

Maybe not so much on betting... Perhaps just some random guesses which, I think, will make watching the battle even more fun. :)

I think the biggest concern we had, regarding betting, was the potential for abuse (aka betting tons of money and someone purposely throwing the match ).

That might not be as big a problem if we set a max bet limit. Winning a small amount isn't going to break the game and we trust that our URPG contenders won't try to do anything stupid.

The important thing, of course, is to make these matches interesting, visible and prestigious. I definitely agree about adding some extra prizes for the participants of these matches as it will up the stakes.

Given that we DO increase the stakes for winning one of these Exhibition matches, the incentive to throw one is much smaller. Keep the betting limit in proportion to what the battlers are competing for and it should create a fairly balanced system. I'd be happy to manage something like that should it come up.

Champion battle where one person takes half an hour to send Detect. On the first move.

This could be fun. I'm not really sure what the difference between an exhibition match and a match where everyone's like "Can I watch" is, though?

I guess it would be that it is formal and organised on forum (assuming it is) rather than just a spur of the moment battle in the URPG chat. Plus the betting, challenging rules and extra prizes.

I guess one way to work it would be someone in charge of a thread on the forum. They decide a special rule n whatnot, and people can apply to be part of the battle. People then vote for who battles who based on what would be the more exciting battle.

I was actually kidding when I suggested betting, but okay, we all know how to Bi-win.

It'd be nice to get rid of the 250/750 I keep getting. There's plenty to do with 500, but the odd numbers irk me. D:

However, I don't really see why there should be incentive for most matches (except for the ones that are not regular or gym battles ((which are already paid more)) - such as the Champion battling more than one person? Or an E4 Round Robin. Yikes!) For the most part, any one who wants to watch a battle can, if both sides agree. Many battles have spectators, and some have up to three or four.

This got me thinking about something else. You know how in college sports they rank the top 25 teams? I think it would be awesome if we ranked the top 25 battlers in URPG. Or maybe 25 is too many, but you get my point. The top however many.

It seems kind of pointless, but its another thing for people to strive for. I guess we could decide the rankings by voting every month or something like that.

Betting would kind of ruin it imo. That'd be kind of too hardcore. It just doesn't suit URPG. :s

However, the idea of Exhibition Matches def sounds cool and I'm on board. I agree with providing the battlers with extra monetary incentives to battle - maybe an additional $500 or $1000 or something. And, just so that this isn't abused, I say only allow certain people (i.e. mods/officials/exceptions akin to non-mod/officials that can still approve Mart or Trading Machine) host an Exhibition Match. That person is responsible for finding battlers and coming up with a special rule (if s/he want one).

And also, here's an idea. Why not have an Exhibition Match blast chat? This way, Exhibition Matches won't get in the way of [URPG] chat and whatnot. The ability to off the blast chat could also come in handy if they don't want to watch a battle (nor get the IM alerts). It would function better than a group chat as well, since invites do not need to be sent out for each battle as people would already be in the blast chat. :0

    This sounds interesting.

We would definitely want special rules and such as well, to make it more interesting for everyone. We can maybe whip up a nice big list, and refs can randomly roll one or two special rules for each Match. Or the "audience" can cast votes for the special rule(s) used or something, I dunno. We just need to introduce elements of surprise and excitement, or else these will be nothing more than over-hyped "invite me to watch lol" battles.

In terms of betting, eh, don't bet on the battlers because that can just add stress to people, even if it's a small amount of money people might risk losing. No one wants to feel they should win for other people. If any betting is done, make it on random things like were already suggested (will it smack in confusion, will Attract work, will that low-accuracy move hit, things like that). Also make it to where no bet can go over x amount of money, like 500 or 1k.
