Somethings that were brought up in TC that I wanted to jot on down in here.

Issue: These new rulesets could be implemented in any everyday battle, meaning anyone at any point can use the B. Pyramid rules to rent some rolled legends for the battle.

    Possible Solutions:
    - Put a cap on how many battles one can do per week/every 2 weeks/month/etc.
    - Once someone reached their 3 battles needed to challenge the Brain, they cannot do any more battles using that ruleset.
    - Axe the 3 battles needed to challenge the Brain and have a system similar to Gym/OI currently, where there are only leaders.
    - Reduce the pay for battlers for the "trainer" battles, but keep Brain the same as Gym pay.

People were discouraged from putting a cap on battles as that might dissuade people from battles.

People were discouraged by the 2nd solution as some thought people might throw a battle to continue using the ruleset.

The most popular solution seemed to be the 3rd (axing of the 3 battles needed), however, people still seemed semi-interested in the idea of being able to use these rulesets in everyday battle/needing 3 battles needed to challenge the brain.

The reduced pay for the 3 required wins would offset the spamming of these types of battles, i.e. people would do them for the progression/quirky ruleset.

How do we select the initial Frontier Brains? Tourney? Have all applicants battle among each other?

This is something as well to consider. What I've thought is one of two things. Either we:

    1. Host a tournament with all of these rulesets (this is of course not going to be ready [probably] until a while, so it'll be after the current tourney and even after Gym Tourney in the winter. We can design it so winners of a specific ruleset become their respected Frontier Brains, then have a mini-tourney of the Frontier Brains to decide who gets Tower Tycoon (second runner ups of the odd Brain out would then become the new Brain). Or build it up a different way if that is too complicated (just spitball'n).

    2. Have a temporary League Organizer where people apply for the Brain positions and the LO can decide who gets them or have a couple of them battle it out for Brain.

The second choice is quicker and places Brains faster; the first choice is a bit more fun, however, is longer and more complicated.

(If we did Tourney, then I would volunteer to be the host, and similarly if we did temp LO I would volunteer to be the temp LO, unless Monbrey or others feel like it should be them or someone else.)

The fourth bullet point here is a must, to me. I actually wouldn't mind encouraging more of these gimmick battles if people are in the mood -- they'll be more competitive than randoms, at least, so the bar is set pretty low in that regard -- but under that circumstance, the "trainer" battles should pay regularly, so that the Frontier rule may only be used in the same way as, say, Inverse or RSE (instead of as any manner of abuse). That way, though, you're free to keep playing under that ruleset if you choose to, even after completing your 3 for Frontier or whatever.

The problem you would run into there, though, is with Pyramid specifically, because any gimmick that allows rental legendaries is a non-starter as a casual battle rule. (You may also have this problem, to a lesser degree, with any other rule that allows rentals, although I haven't really taken a close look yet.) I don't really have any solutions, though I think the ideal option may be to start from scratch and look for a new Pyramid rule that doesn't involve rental legendaries. Otherwise, I think the best option will be your third bullet point, which doesn't strike me as ideal either, but I don't think you can have trainer battles AND rental legendaries.

I know we're pretty attached the idea of legendaries in Pyramid, or at least somewhere in Frontier, and I am too, but I'm sure that there are other great rules we can come up with that don't create headaches when we consider them as casual battle rules. And I would love to have these available as casual battle rules.

(I really dislike the first and second bullet points, so I'm not going to talk about them.)

I pretty much entirely agree with what Nitro said. Some rules I have no issue becoming usable in regular battles, but introducing any sort of rental system across-the-board is absolutely out of the question. Legendaries or not, it undermines the whole collection aspect of URPG. For short term events, specific challenges, completing a Gym roster or strategic renting like Budget Tournament its fine, but not in every day URPG.
