Gardevoir or Alakazam?

I'm going to throw a third into the mix and instead suggest Mrs. Mime

Mrs Mime is essentially the cheap man's Zam since it gets many of the moves zam needs through TMs and Bms by levelup, on top of the fact that its ability Filter is amazing and its ability to baton pass makes it an amazing threat. Its probably one of the more versatile Pokemon out there

BTW a Psychic from Mime w/ LO will KO Gengar and leave it at 36% as opposed to Garde w/LO who gets left @ 28% after KOing Gengar !

 

I would pick gardivor

 

Although I hate to betray Gallade's wife, I have to admit that Alakazam rocks. I've been hard-pressed not to overuse it in Soulsilver, as all the fun would be taken out, and none of my other Pokemon would get experience.

mfw this conversation was started seven years ago. I think that was during gen 4. That would make sense. Volcarona has now joined PZ and Zam in terms of raw special attack. Also, 339 is great, calm mind is excellent, but with the prankster nerf, alakazam gets walled by any prankster imprisoner. Gardenvoir carries more utility not that it is part fairy and can be used to break through those pranksters weak to fairies. Zam is still better at being a set up sweeper, though, with the initial boost to speed, but gadevoir can vaporize a lot of the dark types that outspeed and ohko zam like Weavile. I think as a whole Zam might be a better psychic type but you can't deny how vast gardevoir's urpg movepool is.
