Winter Forum FFA: FIN!

The many gathered Trainers stood facing each other in a giant ring at the battlefield. Some had struck bargains with others, pacts or otherwise. A few nodded to each other in acknowledgement. Some of them had mischievous looks in their eyes, as if they were up to no good and proud of it. One guy even waved to a girl across the room, both with grins on their faces.

The Referee, in the box above, had an even bigger grin on his face. Partly because he was going to throw another variable into the mix. And he got to watch it all unfold.

"Trainers, send out your Pokemon!" the Referee boomed through the loudspeaker.

With various cries of "Good luck!" and "Go!" or "Come on out!", the Trainers called out their Pokemon, sending them out into the arena.

There were Pokemon of every size and description. Spiders and snakes and fish and dragons and vaguely human-shaped Pokemon and even some sort of small cat all filled the stadium with their battle cries.

One of the Pokemon, a tall brutal-looking Pokemon whipped up a Sandstorm, immediately darkening the area. One of the Pokemon, who appeared to be wearing a ballroom dress, scanned the foes with its mind. Another, a strange-looking duck, performed a software update.

Suddenly, a small bomb bounced into the arena, thrown by the Referee. One of the Pokemon, curious, caught it. It's Trainer was rather dismayed.

"The Bomb is now in play!" the Referee called. "Let the Free For All begin!"

TURN 1

And so the battle began.

Most of the Trainers set out ordering their Pokemon to set up defenses or increase their stats or even create a sort of stunt double to take the pounding when things got tough. Several ordered their Pokemon to attack.

However, a few of the Trainers sat there, staring blankly around.

The Referee up above glared at them, yet they did not change. So he pressed a flurry of buttons and trap doors opened beneath each of the five contestants and their Pokemon, sending them tumbling into the darkness below.

There was very little attacking, but what did get launched around did heavy damage. A pile of vines that passed for a Pokemon went up in smoke from a massive blast of fire. Shaking his head, the Referee pressed another button, sending the Fainted Pokemon and its Trainer into the void below the Stadium.

Meanwhile, one of the giant Pokemon held the bomb. The bomb hissed menacingly, but the Pokemon kept it anyways. It didn't go off, but it sputtered some strange-smelling smoke...

"Hurry it up!" the Referee shouted. "Second round! Keep going!"

TURN 2

The battle began to get brutal. While many of the Trainers ordered their Pokemon to fortify themselves, several others ordered attacks. Fire flew around everywhere, but the rainstorm that one of the Dragons summoned stymied the flaming assault. One of the Pokemon erected a wall of light, which promptly deflected and neutralized several of the attacks. Another Pokemon's attack went awry and hit an unintended Pokemon, boosting it's power.

Amid all the chaos, the Rock-type titan somehow managed to stealthily hand the hissing bomb to a turtle-like Pokemon. It then promptly exploded, sending a cloud of smoke up through the arena.

However, the prehistoric Pokemon emerged unscathed, albeit a little startled. It appeared that, because the Pokemon was at full health, whatever the Bomb's affect was was unable to do anything.

The Referee frowned. It was supposed to heal someone, but the Carracosta had full health already. The Referee picked up a second bomb, and with a sly grin, tossed it into the arena. A large pink Pokemon picked it up, and it's Trainer was furious.

"Keep it up!" the Referee shouted.

Turn 3

The battle swiftly became intense. Attacks flew every which way. Most of the Pokemon simply absorbed them and healed themselves. Others just sat there, trying not to call attention to themselves.

Two Pokemon took massively powerful blows, causing them to faint. The Referee, grinning, pulled two levers and sent the Trainers plummeting through trap doors and out of the arena, leaving more room to the still-battling Trainers.

In the midst of all the attacking, a Pokemon quietly rolled the Bomb in the direction of a cluster of battling Pokemon. Most of them, seeing the bomb, leapt aside.

However, one wasn't fast enough. The bomb exploded in a shower of fire and ashes. But when the smoke cleared, the Pokemon was there. It was fine.

The Referee grumbled. He tossed down a third bomb, hoping this one would actually do something. It hit the ground with a metallic thud, which somehow attracted the mechanical Pokemon's attention.

Turn 4

The battle escalated even more.

With a blinding flash, a Pokemon was out. Attacks flew everywhere, but most of the Pokemon were locked in fistfights with each other instead of using ranged attacks. Another Pokemon went down in the fray. Things looked intense.

The Referee was amused. He was even more amused when he saw the cyberduck toss its Bomb towards another Pokemon, with obvious malignant intent. Much to it's surprise, the Bomb exploded almost immediately, healing the target.

The Referee clapped his hands with a crazed look of glee in his eyes. He twiddled with the levers and the two Trainers with fainted Pokemon disappeared into the ground.

TURN 5

The Referee stopped twiddling his thumbs and sat up straight in his very comfortable chair. Things were finally starting to get interesting. And often quite comical.

One of the mini show-downs going on inside the arena, a black fox and a puppet-like ghost, seemed to be extremely lopsided. The fox was toying with the puppet, sneaking up to it and smacking it around. It was so busy having fun, it failed to notice as a giant plant lurched over behind it and smacked it with a rock.

Of all things, two Pokemon were sleeping in the middle of the battle. One of them, a fiery dragon, began to move in its sleep. It charged, head on, at the nearest Pokemon. However, the Charizard flew straight through the Ghost Pokemon and landed on its face, still sound asleep.

Several other showdowns ended. The plant-like dinosaur got stabbed in the back. Twice. Another Pokemon overcame it's adversary, only to get an extremely unhealthy dose of toxin thrown at it.

Meanwhile, one of the giant dragons, having taken many hits, completely forgot about the small, round, hissing thing in its hand. Finally hearing the shouts of its Trainer, it looked down at the bomb it was holding. Which promptly exploded in a shower of dangerous electric sparks.

The Referee clapped his hands, grinning manically. He prepped another bomb, and chucked it down into the fray. The pink Pokemon, for the second time, picked it up. It's Trainer was as dismayed as ever.

TURN 6

What had been a battle turned into a bloodbath. The easy targets, all of them, had been swiftly picked off. One by one, the Pokemon fell.

With blinding speed, a Dragon charged across the field, smacking another Dragon. But it was to no avail. They stood there, glaring at each other, before both were swept aside and Knocked Out.

Suddenly, a massive arc of electricity cackled through the air, annihilating the target. Another, massive Pokemon grabbed ahold of the tricky ghost and bit down hard. The puppet fainted, unable to continue.

Many of the slower Pokemon, not fast enough to catch up to the speedsters and unwilling to make themselves targets, continued to create safeguards and defenses, preparing for the onslaught yet to come. All the while, the Bomb hissed menacingly, like a snake poised to strike.

TURN 7

A few more Pokemon went down, smashed with attacks. The cyber duck took down the tyrant with a steady stream on confusing colors, while the Pokemon of night snuck up behind a calm candle and snuffed it out.

Aside from that, the majority of the battle took a break. The Pokemon, nearly all of them, sat down and meditated. Very calmly, very quietly.

Even the Bomb's explosion of poisonous gas couldn't phase them.

The Referee, scratching his head, primed a bomb and tossed it down into the field. It bounced a few times before landing in the coils of a leafy snake. The snake was mildly concerned with the sudden presence behind it, but largely ignored the improvised explosive. It's Trainer, however, was a little less nonchalant.

TURN 9

The Referee flipped a lever, tut-tutting to himself. This far into the match, one of the Trainers stood petrified. He hadn't given an order to his Pokemon. The white blob-like bird stared at him, hoping for an order. But it was not to come. The Trainer went falling through the trap door below him, his Pokemon slowly gliding down with him.

After the lull in the fighting the previous turn, things began to heat up.

Attacks flew everywhere. Duplicates of Pokemon exploded in balls of fire and energy, revealing the real Pokemon behind it. One such Pokemon became the unlucky target for the majority of attacks. It fell to several massive bursts of Psychic energy, all in a row.

It had barely fallen to its knees before the pit below it had opened.

The Referee was on the edge of his seat, stuffing his face excitedly with popcorn. The Bomb was still hissing, almost responding to the huge amounts of tension which filled the massively distorted room.

TURN 19

The Referee came back from his bathroom break, only to find that a few more Pokemon had collapsed from the sheer amount of effort they was required to keep fighting. A few flips of the levers and they were gone, them and their Trainers.

It looked like the combatants were still going at it, albeit halfheartedly. The green snake lashed out at a dark black Pokemon, but it didn't seem to do very much damage, because it drained some energy from the sky and healed itself almost immediately.
