Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 1

    FFA Start!

The trumpets sounded, and Trainers with their Pokemon from different corners of the globe entered the giant Colosseum-style arena. Rows of stone seats stretched upward, but the spectating space was empty.

From far and wide, Trainers heard the call for battle. Banners flew from the kingdoms of Bulbagarden, Petalburg, and the Crossroads, flapping in the breeze and boasting who would be the true victor in this struggle. Why had Winter called them here? Wasn't it supposed to be a friendly competition?

Suddenly, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed as the arena went dark. Then, ethereal phantoms burst into sight, flooding into the viewing stands. They shrieked and laughed and swarmed, pointing at the Pokemon brought in to do battle. Some were in the forum of Pokemon, though their bodies had been warped by darkness.

Then, a figure was outlined against the black of the sky, lit up from behind by a flash of lightning. It was the outline of a woman. At first she seemed human, but as she sauntered across the top of the arena, tattered dragon wings came in sight, hanging off a body whose skin was the color of pale ice in the teases of the leather armor covering her. White-colored hair flowed over her shoulders and down to her hips, but that wasn't the oddest thing about her. Her eyes blazed with blue fire like some demented version of lady luck.

The smirk on her face grew and she sent a kiss out into the crowd and bowed. “Welcome to my arena!” she called, a wicked smile quirking her lips. Her voice projected easily without yelling. “I'll be your hostess for today.”

A brave soul stepped forward, looking the demon lady in the face. “I-I t-thought Winter was reffing this...?” he asked, looking around for the referee that had suggested this competition.

“Oh, don't you worry about her,” the demon purred in his ear, suddenly behind him. She breathed into his ear and touched his shoulder, the spot erupting into thinly-spread ice where she made contact. He shivered. “Here you play by my rules.”

Then, the massive doors behind them slammed shut, locking the competitors inside. The Trainers whirled toward the entrance, trying to pull the doors open, but it was no use. The demon laughed shrilly from the other side of the field, suddenly sitting on a throne that had been placed in the center of the stone seats. On her lap, a purple cat was sprawled, chained around the neck to the side of her chair. She stroked his head but his ears were flat and his tail twitching in anger.

“Only one of you may be the victor. Maybe then you can leave. Or not! By all means try, and let the games begin!”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 1

    Turn 1 Start!

As Trainers frantically decided what to do, a wicked-looking cat demon floated up to a large bone horn and used it, sounding a call for silence. The demon waved a flag and then disappeared in a thin wisp of smoke.

Then, the dragon lady rose from her seat, clapping her hands together as she did so. The room began to shake frantically, and both people and Pokemon flailed, trying to keep their balance. The white-haired woman was unaffected. In the center of the arena, a large chasm pulled its lips apart. Inky blackness seemed to call people toward its depths, though if any fell in, they may never be seen again.

Suddenly, thick, rusty chains spat out of the crevice, sailing toward a lone Honedge that was floating apart from the rest. It's Trainer called out, reaching a hand to pull the Pokemon back, but it was no use. The chain then flickered like a snake and lashed out toward the human too, binding just as tightly. Slowly, the chains began to pull them toward the pit. People looked on confused—but what were the chains attached to?

A large green lizard suddenly faded into view, thick chains wrapped around the massive blooming flower. Like the cat, this Pokemon seemed bound against his will, working for the dragon lady.

Though the Trainer and Pokemon both struggled, they could not fight the powers of the demon. When they had wore themselves out, the chained Venusaur dragged them across the opening of the pit. They didn't even scream as they fell down into the darkness.

The dragon lady abruptly laughed, sending shivers down the spines of those remaining. “I think you've all had enough time to act. That's what happens when you take too long,” she said as she waved a hand toward the pit that was no longer there. Like magic, it had disappeared.

“Now, let's see what you'll do next!”

The demon disappeared with a crack, and at the sharp sound, the Trainers scattered, trying to get away from each other. Now the game was on.

Right away, a large purple bat struck out toward an insect, battering with its wings. A toad-like Pokemon threw up a large mat to defend itself, and a patterned butterfly started an erratic dance that left wisps of energy flickering off of it. However, these types of actions were in the vast minority.

The white-haired woman looked on as most battlers created soft, plushie copies of themselves to act as barriers. She scoffed as she plopped down on her throne, propping her cheek in a hand as she yawned. “Will see if that really helps you after all,” she sneered.

Then, a fiery fox lashed out against one of the unevolved Pokemon. The Flareon dashed at the Metapod in a burst of flames, knocking it out instantly. The Flareon's Trainer cheered, but most people looked on in shock—what was the point of hitting something so defenseless?

The Trainer carefully picked up her fallen Pokemon as a soft cottony Pokemon appeared next to them. The Whimsicott patted the Trainer on the shoulder and ushered them to the sides, the chains twisted in her fur only visible once she turned around.

The seating was raised from the battleground, held up by grooved pillars and created a dark dugout underneath. The two were directed toward it, waiting for the rest of the battle to finish. Maybe after, they would all be able to leave this dreaded place.

“You guys are boring,” the dragon lady said as she sighed, rising from her chair. She pointed a sharped finger nail at them all and added, “Next turn better not disappoint me!”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 2

    Turn 2 Start!

The dragon lady cackled as the Pokemon prepared to fight again. Two more Trainers hadn't formulated a plan in time, so once again the chained Venusaur went to work as the chasm opened. He dragged a fuzzy blue bird with cottony wings and a large metallic snake down into the darkness.

The strange demon flopped back in her chair and ran jagged fingernails down a stone tablet that had appeared next to her, scratching two marks into the stone next to one that was already there.

The bat shot out to finish off the half-dead bug, but the fire fox darted in and finished it off before the Crobat could reach. The demented woman saw that the bat was going to stop its attack, and she abruptly stood up.

“I don't think so! You don't get to quit,” she hissed, whipping a hand out. Icy energy lanced out toward the Crobat, and almost against its will, it did a cartwheel and spun toward a random opponent. The bat's attack went wild, and the unlucky target was the foamy substitute of the Weavile. The Acrobatics attack struck hard, thrashing the plush into nothing but useless puffs.

Then, a creepy-looking mime shot a blast of telekinetic energy at the Poison-type, leaving it barely flapping above the ground. As the captured Whimsicott ushered the Ariados into the barracks, the demon scratched another tally on the stone.

The Crobat thought it would get some rest, but that wasn't to be. Suddenly, two identical fighters with long, green blades for arms slashed out at the bat with glowing purple energy. It was a race to see who would strike first, and this fell to the second Gallade. As the Poison-type fell, the second Gallade's attack flew out of control, slamming into the rainbow butterfly and denting it a decent amount.

The rest of the turn was spent boosting defenses or attack. The dragon lady watched as several nearly-invisible screens spring up next to certain Pokemon, but after that first rush of action, the movement slowed down.

The demon gave a dramatic sigh. “You guys are bo-ring.” Then she got a nasty smile. “But you won't be for long!”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 3

    Turn 3 Start!

When the chained Venusaur appeared again on the other side of the chasm, the Trainers knew that someone else hadn't heeded the warning of the demon. Rusted chains shot out to wrap around a woman and her Umbreon, and although they struggled, the laws of the arena prevailed. Slowly the plant behemoth pulled, dragging the pair with their heels dug in. They tumbled down into darkness.

The dragon lady shrilly laughed again, raking claws across her stone tablet to signal another of the warriors had fallen. And to think, she had thought this fight would be boring.

The rainbow butterfly suddenly focused and lashed out at the Weavile who had become bared to the rest of the fighters the previous turn. With silvery energy, it leeched the life of the Dark-type, bringing it to the brink but not quite making it faint. The insect in turn looked much more healthy, flapping its wings at a more rapid rate. But the demon had a feeling that wouldn't last for long.

The washing machine created a dark wind of ghastly energy, shooting it into a rooted plant Pokemon, trying to destroy the plushie guard in front. The dragon lady tapped her fingernails together in anticipation, waiting for the fabric to be shredded and the Pokemon to be vulnerable. However, it didn't happen. The woman leaned forward in her seat, seeing the Substitute hang on by threads. That was interesting.

A mighty roar caught her attention then, as the great fire dragon lashed out at the hurt Weavile, slamming its fist across the Dark-type's feathered head. The Weavile fell flat on its back, causing its Trainer to come running. The enslaved Whimsicott appeared next to them to offer her condolences as she helped them off the field and to the sidelines. Things were starting to heat up.

The white-haired lady laughed loudly, clapping her hands. “Show me more!”

The attacking wasn't done either. Suddenly, the ninja frog lashed out at the bug, looking a lot more brown and sharp than it had before. Knocking the insect with a Smack Down, the dragon lady waited to scratch another tally. The bug slammed down into the dusty arena, but it appeared to be moving. The demon really couldn't tell what the call was from here.

Luckily, she had a plan for that. She clapped her hands twice, and suddenly black smoke appeared on the sidelines near the Vivillon. A woman with dark hair in jeans and a black turtleneck appeared, crossing her arms and glaring at the dragon lady who had teleported next to her.

“What do you want,” the newcomer bit out, making it more of a demand than a question.

“Winter, dear, don't be like that,” the demon said sweetly as she smiled, coming up to the woman and laying her head on her shoulder. The dark and light of their hair mixed like some demented yin and yang symbol.

“You hijacked my battle. Why shouldn't I be upset?”

The demon just smiled, taking the ends of the entwined hair and twirling the strands between her fingers. “You know the will of the dice determines all matches. You can't be rid of me, so you may as well get used to it!”

Winter grumbled as the demon neared the Vivillon, knowing the demon was right. There was no going against the spirit of the dice. Unfortunately, that was what she was stuck with.

“What I want you to do, dear,” the dragon lady continued, “is to make the call on this lovely Pokemon. Is it out?” she asked a little all too eagerly.

Winter stooped down to look as the demon leaned on her shoulder to peer down with her. The woman shook her head. “No, Vivillon isn't out.”

“Oh, poo,” the demon said, sticking her lips out in a quick pout. “Oh well! I'm sure it's time will come...”

Then, with the snap of her fingers, both women were now up in the stands, watching as the battle continued. The spirit of the dice sighed dramatically as more Pokemon just continued to bolster their defenses. However, that didn't last for long.

The fiery fox darted out, cloaking itself in flames as it rushed the downed Vivillon. In a burst of fire, the two collided, knocking the insect against the back wall. It was clearly knocked out.

The dragon lady leaned forward again as she waited for the strain of the attack to knock the Flareon out as well, but that didn't happen either. She made a disgruntled noise as the fox remained standing, staggering back to its Trainer barely.

“What's with all these smidgens!?” the demon yelled.

Winter smirked at her. “I guess they just don't want to play the game the way you want them to.”

The rest of the Pokemon continued with their defense boosting, healed by the various techniques they had set up. Some were surrounded by veils of water and others had roots sunk into the ground. In order to encourge them, the demon stood up.

“Remember, if you need new attacks, visit my stands,” she said, pointing to a few stalls next to the barracks for knocked out Pokemon. They boasted being able to teach move tutors, TMs and breeding moves in a pinch. “Is that allowed,” the spirit asked the referee.

Winter shrugged. “I've seen it done before.”

The dragon lady grinned. “Good. Let the battle continue!”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 4

    Turn 4 Start!

The dragon lady huffed as Pokemon continued to increase their defensive and attacking powers, folding her arms and slumping back in her chair. Nobody had even gotten dragged into the pit this time.
“Ugh, this takes so long,” the spirit of the dice said.

Next to her on the stone steps, Winter rolled her eyes and shook her head. “That's how all FFAs go. You should know that by now.”

“That doesn't mean I have to like it!”

Next to Winter, the purple Espeon leaned as close as he could, keeping as far away from the demon's throne as he could. His ears flattened at the dragon lady's sharp tone. Winter waved the demon off.

“It'll pick up soon. Probably. Oh, look, something's happening.”

The demon raked her eyes across the field to see what the other woman had meant. The flaming fox had rushed toward the purple dinosaur-like creature in retaliation for the last attack. However, it's quick dash only managed to hit the fluffy plushie guarding it. The attack didn't even break it.

Then, the mossy rock Pokemon shook its leafy head and attacked. Stones began to levitate with an eerie purple energy. They stilled for a moment, but then they all flew off toward the Flareon at once, knocking it over with the force. The fox didn't get up again, so the trapped Whimsicott ushered the Pokemon and its Trainer to the sidelines to watch the rest of the battle.

The cut the demon made in the stone was deep from her irritation. However, the Nidoking's movement caught her attention once again. It made to attack where the Flareon had fallen, but again, when he was about to stop, the dragon lady snapped her fingers, and the beast turned in some random dirction.

The ground exploded near a creepy-looking mime that even gave the dice spirit the shivers. However, a nearly-invisible barrier materialized to protect the plushie substitute that had been constructed. That one didn't break either.

The spirit huffed again and leaned on the arm of her chair, cupping her chin in her palm. Then she turned toward the referee. “Remember that FFA we reffed when that Metagross exploded in its sleep? I hope something like that happens again.”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 5

    Turn 5 Start!

The cat demon appeared to use the horn again, and all the competitors in the arena stilled. A couple looked panicked, fear flashing on their faces as they realized they didn't form a strategy in time. With a rumbled that threatened to knock people to the ground, the chasm opened up again.

The spirit of the dice cackled.

The worn-out Venusaur flickered into view, ready with his chains. They rattled ominously, like the barb of a snake's tail. Then, they lashed out and struck, wrapping around three sets of Pokemon and Trainer. The ingrained Cradily was grabbed first, and although its roots tried to hold it in place, it was no match for the demons will. It dragged the Pokemon up, chunks of dirt in its roots and all, throwing it into the pit along with its Trainer. Then, the large purple dinosaur was snagged, and he and his Trainer shared the same fate. The last to go was an orange washing machine that tried to dart off. However, the bindings flew faster, dragging the last duo down into the depths.

The dragon lady was suddenly on the edge of the pit, looking down where the Pokemon had disappeared. “Tsk tsk,” she said as she patted the Venusaur on the head, seconds before both he and the chasm disappeared from view. “You would think they'd learn by now.”

Then, she was back up next to her throne, three jagged fingernails etching more slashes into the tally count.

As she sat back down, the battle resumed. The demon saw that some Pokemon were still statting up, but things took a happy turn as others starting to take more direct action. This pleased the dice spirit, as she sported a smile and seemed to bounce up and down in her seat. Winter watched on with crossed arms and a grim look until the dragon lady leaned into her and pointed.

“Look, that Lucario is wide open!”

The fighter seemed to realize it too. With a sudden stillness, the Steel-type prepared itself. The first blow wasn't directed at him, however. The large mostly-mouth Pokemon suddenly darted over to a fighter with low-hanging pants and lifted its substitute up, slamming it back into the ground seconds later. The plushie exploded into pockets of cotton fuzz, now leaving the other Fighting-type open as well.

Then the Lucario's prediction panned out. Both the Charizard and Greninja streaked out toward the fighter, the dragon's fist flaming red and the ninja looking a little more on the bulky side. The Steel-type waited calmly for their attacks, and when the dragon swooped in, the Lucario sidestepped at the last second, causing the Charizard to fly past harmlessly. Likewise, when the Greninja threw forward its arm, the Lucario jumped over it, escaping all damage.

Then, the plant dinosaur in back grumbled, shooting off tiny plant spores in the Lucario's direction. However, these didn't fare well either. The Steel-type moved just enough that the Grass-type's attack got caught in the wind and was carried out of the arena.

The dragon lady smiled. “Looks like someone's got a warrant on their head. I wonder how long he can last?”

A fiery dog, much larger than the Flareon that was knocked out earlier, finally took action. With a boost of speed, the canine launched itself toward the Exploud, erupting into flames as soon as the Exploud's substitute would hit. The fires ate up the materials, burning them down to ashes in moments. Now this Pokemon was exposed too.

However, it wasn't quite done. Suddenly, one of the Lanturn was surrounded by a cold fog. The energy coalesced into a beam and shot off toward the Tropius. It's substitute exploded violently.

The dice spirit cheered, clapping her hands rapidly. She was on the edge of her seat, looking on gleefully. “Look at how many are now wide-open,” she said with a nasty smile. “I can't wait to see what's next.”

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 6

    Turn 6 Start!

The dragon lady cackled as the participants sprung into action. While some were still wasting their time increasing defenses, more of them were starting to move around in preparation to strike.

A pair of swords and shield were dragged into the chasm. The spirit of the dice just hummed to herself as she etched another tally into the stone. If people didn't realize that the battle waited for no one by now... She shrugged.

In a burst of sound from the giraffe, the frog ninja went down even though its Substitute was still standing. As the Pokemon fainted, the plushie crumbled and disappeared too. The Whimsicott returned to usher them off of the field before they could get in the cross fire of another attack.

The demon watched as the Charizard tried to strike the Lucario again, but even though it was tired form its last dodging maneuver, it managed to sidestep out of the way again. It may not last another round if it had to do that again.

As the dragon's fires died, the canine's flared up, aiming for the Exploud again. The loud Pokemon tried to construct a substitute to guard itself, but the dog broke through it easily. It saved the blue yeller for only a few moments. The gangster-like Fighting-type was waiting, wanting revenge for the destruction of its sub earlier. With a hard punch to its face, the Exploud went down. The dragon lady scratched another mark in the stone as the cotton Pokemon tended to the fallen.

Another substitute exploded around one of the Lanturn as it tried to attack the leafy dinosaur again. The Tropius retaliated in kind, holding onto consciousness barely.

The last attack was from the very slow Psychic-type on the edge of the field. It had the Charizard in its sights as it called up bubbling water from below. However, when it tried to push the wave toward the dragon, the moss rock made a gurgling sound. The water suddenly veered toward the Cradily where it sucked up the moisture with its roots. Looks like the battlers were going to have to avoid using water attacks.

“I do like when these things speed up,” the dragon lady said, lounging back in her chair and propping her legs up on the arm of it.

Re: Anniversary Forum FFA--Send for Turn 7

    Turn 7 Start!

The dice spirit gleefully clapped as the horn blew for the next turn. She had a bubbling feeling that things were going to start rolling very soon. She lightly brushed her claws over the stone tablet in anticipation.

The normally-active dragon was the first to fall. The demon watched as the Charizard waited around too long, causing the chasm to open once again. Venusaur, that other Kanto starter, flickered into existence once again on the far side of the pit, looking on his nation's brother as the dragon was wrapped in chains. The fire lizard thrashed and roared, but it could not fight the will of the arena. It was tossed into the abyss like the rest, and the dragon lady etched another tally in the stone.

However, the disappearance of the Charizard confused the Lucario, who had been bracing to attack it. He looked to hesitate, but the dice spirit shook her head and snapped her fingers, willing him into action anyway. He sped off with a blinding strike, being tossed in a white bird's direction. The Togekiss' substitute shattered with the force of impact, leaving it open to attack.

    The demon clapped.

A couple Pokemon were still statting, but that Arcanine, the flaming dog she had come to depend upon for action, would not relent the attack. With vicious fangs, it sunk its teeth into the plushie guarding the giraffe, ripping it apart.

Then, that creepy mime shot some brightly-colored lights at the gangster fighter who had been exposed last round. It fell with a shudder, falling forward. The cotton-like Pokemon reappeared to escort them off the field. Little did she know that she would have much more work to do.

The demon sighed as more Pokemon continued to boost their attack or defense, yawning and fanning a hand in front of her face. Then, however, the fire monkey took action. It slammed the ground, loosening rocks from the invisible sky toward the place where the Charizard once rested. Some people questioned the logic of it, but this was the demon's arena, and she warped logic and reason until it suited her needs.

With lack of target, she smirked as the rocks flew in another random direction. This time, it hit the leafy dinosaur, knocking it out easily as it prepared to heal itself. The Cradily had tried to attack it as well, as stone started levitating with eerie energy. With another flick of her fingers, that attack veered off, striking one of the Lanturn this time. It's substitute held, unfortunately.

The rest of the Pokemon did nothing interesting. Still, the demon looked on her tallies and smiled. More than half the participants were now knocked out or missing. She didn't bother to hide a nasty grin. Who would be next?
