Buzz sat in his office, typing up a report about the curious behaviour of the Pokémon at the park recently. Reports of over aggression, and some strange items were common place at the moment.

Buzz soon grew bored of typing, and began to flick through the sign up sheet on the computer. He sighed as he saw that all of them had claimed by other rangers, as he was about to log off, a new sign up popped up. Buzz read through it quickly. Mt. Deckbi, we've already been there but who knows, maybe some new Pokémon, or this Elena will be interesting. Or even more preferably, as hot, as the receptionist, or the stock lady. With that thought, Buzz glanced out of the glass of his door, and happily watched the stock lady push some bottles onto a high shelf, after a few minutes of happy thoughts, Buzz snapped back to reality, then quickly accepted the run.

He began collecting his supplies around the room, just as he was about to leave the office, AC/DC began blaring out of his pocket. His phone had recieved a text. He quickly pulled the phone out and read through the text.

    From James;
You lucky son-of-a-bitch. The one with the perfect hourglass figure?

Buzz laughed at the text, and quickly typed out his response.

    To James;
Haha, I know right, but as a side note, you sound like a woman saying "perfect hourglass figure." Then again, whats new I guess. :p Buzz.

Chuckling to himself, he grabbed his stuff and headed out into the main entrance, giving a quick check that Boss-sama wasn't around he went over to Madison, the receptionist, and began chatting to her, whilst waiting for his trainer.

“Isn't this great, Flygon?” Elena asked, watching as her dragonfly-like Pokémon took in the sights and sounds of the outdoors. The Ground type dragon made happy sounds as he weaved through the air, and the Trainer let him enjoy himself as they headed toward the main Outpost of the National Park.

They had gotten off the boat at the port to the northeast. The ride across the water had been wonderful, and she hoped Flygon liked it just as much. He had joined her on the side and didn't even mind getting sprayed by the water jets running on the side. So far, he seemed pretty low key, but she didn't know him that well. He was one of the newer members of her team, and she didn't want him to be unhappy. They hadn't even found a nickname he liked yet.

While some knocked the power of the green bug-like dragon, she knew better. Flygon was a great battler in the right situation, and he hadn't thought twice about saving her in dangerous situations. Mt. Pyre had been tricky, and since she was planning on going to the looming Mt. Deckbi, she thought he'd be perfect to take along. She wanted to give him as much air time as possible. She had checked with her other Pokémon, and Koko and Fred didn't mind. She was also glad most of her Pokémon got along with each other.

Since it was their first time here, they had stood around the port looking like idiots for a few minutes until someone in a long red vest and black everything else had pointed her in the right direction. She had looked almost like Elena, only swap the red for tan canvas and jeans. The lady also had long, wavy red hair while Elena's was more like Buneary fur, though it did hang past her shoulders these days.

They had been freaked out by the giant Crobat that hovered behind the lady's shoulder, but she had seemed nice enough. Flygon had immediately flown in front of her, furthering Elena's thought that he was a great addition to the team. The red haired lady had just laughed, saying a lot of people were creeped out by the bat.

Flygon had backed down after he realized there was no harm meant, and then the woman pointed her in the direction of the main Outpost, calling out to watch for someone named Chainy or Leo. Elena just shrugged and wandered down the dirt path, not really knowing exactly what she had meant.

They made it to the office in short time, and Flygon was returned to his ball before she ducked inside the building. It was fairly busy, with desks scattered around with Rangers and aides doing paperwork as well as secretaries going back and forth. She looked around, wondering where she should go, when she spotted a couple of people near a longer counter on the far right of the room. Shrugging, she went over.

There was a pretty lady behind it, with flowing blonde hair and a slim figure. The secretary was being chatted up by a tall, well-built man leaning towards her. He just had a beanie hat and jeans and a t-shirt, but the lady was giggling.

She didn't want to interrupt, but... “Excuse me,” she said. There was no response, and she looked around, but there was nobody else that could help her out.

Tapping her fingers against her folded arms, she debated whether she would be able to take his hat off without touching him when a pulling sensation had her looking around.

"Buzz, don't be so silly," Madison giggled, "there is no way that, James, ran away from Ivy's Haxbat!"

"It's true, I swear," Buzz replied, with a smirk across his face. He leaned over the receptionist's desk, still flirting with Madison, the tall, beautiful woman that was the target for at least three of the Park Rangers. Buzz, Leo, and James, all great friends, until it came to Madison, and most attractive girls. Then all bets were off.

"Excuse me," A small female voice beside him said.

Buzz sighed audibily, "I'm very busy, the sign up forms are over there," Buzz muttered, not taking his eyes of Madison, and pointing vaguely in the direction of the waiting area.

Suddenly, there was a pink flash, and a small gust of wind, as the sound of flapping wings filled the room. Buzz sighed once more, he knew that this chance to chat with Madison was over. He watched her smile, and then return to her computer. He was about to object when her phone range, and she began chatting away.

"What is it, River? Didn't you see I was busy?" Buzz said to the green bird that had landed upon the desk, as he nodded his head in Madison's direction.

"Yes,yes I did. That's why I did it," River said telepathically. "Anyway, while you were being stereotypical, you decided to try and fob off your latest trainer. Meet, Elena." River pointed a wing to the girl who was no tapping impatiently.

Oh, crap, Buzz thought. You better not be planning to tell Boss-Sama, or I promise I will replace you with that new Pokémon, Shinbora, rumour is that they have been spotted in the park. River simply rolled her eyes.

"Well, sorry about the delay, Elena. I'm Buzz, and i'll be your ranger. You just need to sign this document, it's your standard safety release form 'Should you get severely injured, or worse, ... blah blah blah ... I nor the Park are responsible, or liable ...,'" Buzz said, still not looking at the girl he had snubbed, passing her a document attached to a clip board. "Once that's done, River, will teleport us over to Mount Deckbi."

Buzz checked his supplies quickly, while he waited for her to sign the form, and then nodded at River. River's signature pink aura expanded, swalling the trio, and in a pink flash they were standing in front of a rocky mountain. Behind them was the Mt. Deckbi outpost, they didn't need to go in, it was mostly for rangers without Psychic types that know Teleport. The sun was shining brightly, but looking up to the peak of the mountaing, a grey blanket of dust shielded Buzz's vision. He knew it was going to get sandy later.

The pair set off along the beaten walk way, that so many trainers and rangers had tread. "So, are there any Pokémon you particularly want to try and capture?" Buzz asked his trainer. Buzz suddenly stopped, as he looked at his feet, he realised he was about to step on a small, ground type. "Well you didn't have to wait long for your first encounter, would a Diglett be a useful addition to your team?"

(OOC: Male gender please. Also, I swear I tried to make it shorter.)

    TP#2

There was a flash of pink light and a gust of wind, and then a totem-pole like bird landed on top of the counter next to the man. It was mostly green with white wings and interesting designs on its body. The secretary had a phone call and walked away, and the man sighed, looking at the Xatu. He said, “What is it, River? Didn't you see I was busy?”

There was silence, and Elena figured they were speaking mind to mind. Horus, her Natu back home, hadn't quite mastered that yet. The Xatu, who was named River, motioned towards her with a slender wing. After another second, the guy suddenly whirled around, handing her a clipboard with a release form. He introduced himself in a rush, and Elena noticed that he hadn't looked at her.

She shrugged and smiled a little at River, signing the form without saying a word. She set the form on the counter, and Buzz told her River would be teleporting them to Deckbi. She just nodded, though she wasn't sure he saw.

In a rush they were in front of the Ranger Outpost on the mountain. She shook her head, clearing the disorienting feeling. It wasn't that bad, but that was probably because she had been helping her Natu teleport more things at once for longer distances. Buzz immediately started walking on the path leading up to the mountain, and she had to hurry to catch up for a second. It seemed that he wasn't affected by warping at all.

The sun made strange looking shadows out of her tan vest as she looked down to cover her eyes from the light. As she gazed up the mountain, there was a dusty haze that they would probably run into. She frowned a little, but hoped that it would keep away any fire Pokémon. The lady on the phone said the repellent she ordered should do the trick, but it never hurt to be too sure. Fire wasn't on her list of favorite things. She subconsciously rubbed her left gloved arm as she caught up with Buzz.

He didn't say anything for a while, and Elena hoped that he wasn't mad at her or something for interrupting. He still hadn't looked at her properly yet, and she didn't want to say anything more that could set him off it he had a temper. She had just accepted that this run may be done in silence when he spoke up. “So, are there any Pokémon you particularly want to try and capture?”

Elena, glad that he was at least talking to her, opened her mouth to answer when Buzz suddenly stopped, looking down at his feet.

He had almost stepped on a very small, brown mole-like Pokémon. She recognized it as a Diglett, known for their speed and the tunnels they dug. She immediately thought of her friend Glenne, one of the reasons she was here. Glenne collected Rock and Ground type Pokémon, and Elena had come to the park because the other girl couldn't, promising that she would bring back something interesting to study. Diglett would be a great help to Glenne with digging for stones.

“Would a Diglett be a useful addition to your team?” he asked.

“Sure would,” she replied, and she stepped forward as she prepared to battle.

She thought for a moment, deciding what Pokémon to use. She wanted to give Flygon a lot of air time, but he was the biggest of the partners she had with her currently. She didn't want to scare or overwhelm the small mole. In the end she decided Koko would be the best match, and she dug into a vest pocket for the correct Pokéball.

A cream colored cat emerged in a beam of red light. The Persian yawned and stretched, kneading her claws into the dirt. She looked at the Diglett and tensed up, waiting for the word to strike. There was a time when she would've acted out on her own despite what Elena said, but that time had passed. Years of working under and running from Silver League had given them time.

“Alright, Koko, this should be a nice warm up for you.” The cat's eyes gleamed, and Elena was reminded of that spark she saw the first time they had ever battled together. It was the one that told her the cat would never give up. “You're the master of lower powered moves, so let's show everyone how we operate!” Koko yowled in approval, and she sunk down a little on her legs, ready to pounce when needed.

The Persian had always been very good at controlling low powered moves to make them more effective than they normally would be. She had always been able to do it, and her natural ability had come in handy many times.

“Your Water Pulse technique will come in handy here, Koko. Diglett is weak to water. More importantly, he's fast. Let's use your water more around him than at him. Don't hit him too hard. Soak the area around him and as much ground as you can. There are tunnel holes all over here. The damp should slow him down a little and make him easier to spot if he goes into a tunnel. After that, we can Plot some.”

Koko bobbed her head in acceptance and focused. Her skin shivered as she concentrated. Since there wasn't any pools around, Koko had to draw the water up from the ground. Elena didn't know how deep it was, but it was something Koko had done before, so she wasn't too worried. If all went well, the ground would be soaked enough to slow the ground Pokémon down. If they could clog the spots it normally used to come above ground, he could be forced to make new ones. Since Diglett didn't burrow that far under, they should be able to pick out the tracks and know where he'd come out at.

Koko stretched again as the ground lightly shook under her feet. Before long a miniature spring was bubbling at her feet, and as she put more effort into it, it grew. With a burst, the water launched outwards in rings formed by Koko's energy. Elena watched with sharp eyes to see how the Diglett would react while Persian took a breather.

The cat's tail swished back and forth while hear ears twitched, and Elena knew she was doing some Plotting of her own as well.

"Sure would," his trainer piped up, taking a step forward. It was the first time, Buzz actually looked at the girl, her tan vest, and jeans. Meh, Madison is hotter, not bad though, he thought.

The girl took a few moments to decide what she was going to do, but then in a swift movement of a gloved arm she retrieved a small Poke Ball. In a beam of red light a grey cat like Pokemon appeared. Buzz was impressed, he was so use to seeing Infernapes, and other over used Pokemon.

"Oh, before you start, I should point out, that document you signed," Buzz started, "well it wasn't a safety document, more a binding contract simply saying that all Pokemon you capture are to be gifted to me, and failure to comply will result in imprisonment." Buzz stared blankly at her for a few moments waiting for her to react.

He then burst into laughter, "You're face! Haha, sorry I get all the first timers with that one, carry on."

Buzz continued to chuckle to himself as the Persian stretched and yawned.

"Alright, Koko, this should be a nice warm up for you. You're the master of low powered moves, so let’s show everyone how we operate!" Elena spurred on her Persian, who shrunk, low to the ground ready to pounce.

"Your Water Pulse technique will come in handy here, Koko. Diglett is weak to water. More importantly, he's fast. Let's use your water more around him, than at him. Don't hit him too hard. Soak the area around him and as much ground as you can. There are tunnel holes all over. The damp should slow him down a little and make him easier to spot if he goes into a tunnel. After that, we can Plot some."

Buzz was pleased when he heard his trainer using her Pokemon's move so creatively. He just hoped the Diglett didn't have any dirty tricks up its sleeve.

A pool of water began to form at Persian's feet, and before long the bubbling spring was sent in water rings at the wild Pokemon. The water looped around the mole like Pokemon, and began to seep into the ground. As the rings hit the ground, water was splashed all over the Diglett. The ground was soon turned to heavy mud, and it looked as if the Diglett was stuck.

The Diglett appeared to wriggle as if trying to escape its muddy prison.

Buzz suddenly felt the earth begin to shake, he was scared the Diglett was using Earthquake, but a gold aura grew around Diglett, as the ground beneath the Mole Pokemon began to rise, soon an earth tower had arisen. Diglett was now high above Persian, though Buzz could still see it wriggling around, so he assumed Elena's attempt to trap the Diglett had worked.

It span and orbs of mud were flung from the very top of its muddy spire, at the cat Pokemon. Murky water spiralled off the brown blobs as they hurtled towards the feline.

Elena watched Koko's attack washed water all over the ground. It soaked into the earth, and even splashed the Diglett some. The dirt shifted to mud as the mole Pokémon struggled, and the Trainer was pleased to see it struggling a little. If it was immobile, it would probably be slightly easier to catch.

“Perfect! Great job, Koko,” she called. While the Persian wasn't the type to expect praise, Elena still liked her partners to know she appreciated them. She knew she would want that approval if their roles were reversed.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and Elena staggered as her arms flung out, trying to balance herself. At first she thought it was an Earthquake, either natural or by the Pokémon, but then Diglett started to glow with a soft gold color. The earth under him started to rise, and soon he was towering over the pair, still struggling in the mud patch.

“Alright, we'll think of something.” They would have to plan carefully to get around this, even if it didn't look like Diglett was going anywhere for a short time.

Elena looked up and her eyes widened as she got back into the battle. Globs of mud were falling off the top of the tower, aiming right for her cat.

“Incoming Mud Bomb!” she called, and the Persian tensed and narrowed her eyes at the falling mud. “This will have to be quick, Koko! Let's use your Icy Wind and send it upwards. Freeze the globs and Protect yourself. If we're lucky maybe we can hit the tower too and trap the Diglett for sure. Go for it!”

The jewel on Koko's head glowed for a second before the ground around her feet started to harden and frost over, dimming white as ice formed. Small crystals formed in the hair around her, and the brightly shining sun gleamed off of them like rainbows. The cat shivered, and then flung all her energy skyward, sending the ice shards towards the incoming attack.

A sleek green bubble started to fade in right after, and Elena hoped the Protect would be enough to save the cat from too much damage. Koko wouldn't be able to move very easy and use the shield at the same time, so she was stuck until the barrage stopped. That's why the Trainer had wanted her to freeze the mud first. The watery dirt would've stuck and weighed down the barrier, making it harder to hold up. At least this way, even if they hit the bubble hard, they should bounce off and not build up. If everything went well, maybe they would be able to weaken the Diglett a little more too. It was worth a shot.

Elena watched the two attacks collide in anticipation, clenching her fists and hoping.

“Incoming Mud Bomb!” Elena called, and the Persian tensed and narrowed her eyes at the falling mud. “This will have to be quick, Koko! Let's use your Icy Wind and send it upwards. Freeze the globs and Protect yourself. If we're lucky maybe we can hit the tower too and trap the Diglett for sure. Go for it!”

The feline began to turn a pale shade of blue as ice crystals formed all over its body, it released the energy in the direction of the oncoming Mud Bomb. The gust of freezing wind connected with each blob of earth, freezing each one, soon it looked as if it was hailing, but with hail the size of tennis balls.

Buzz had to duck out of the way as a wayward ice ball almost hit him. The cold air produced by Persian, continued past the mud bombs and struck the mud spire. It hit at particularly thin part of the tower, soon icicles began form on the tower. Buzz glanced at Elena, he knew what would happen if that tower took a hit. Diglett would come crashing down.

A green bubble of aura erupted around the Persian, just in time as the ice bombs crashed into them sending ice and mud shrapnel all around. Buzz could see the aura fading as each bomb attacked. It finally disappeared, unfortunatly just a little to soon as the last ice bomb struck the Persian. It shattered across the battlefield. Now strewn with icicles.

Buzz winced, when the Ice bomb struck the Persian, he hated seeing Trainer's Pokémon get injured. Suddenly his phone buzzed in his pocket. He quickly pulled it out and opened the reply from James.

    Buzz:
If I were you, I'd keep quiet about my woman-handling. If I was a chick, I'd be a lesbian, whereas you would barely qualify as bi-curious.
    .I. Chainy

"Haha, what the hell is he on about?" Buzz blurted out. "Oh sorry, don't mind me, just have to deal with one of my, slower, collegues." Buzz began tapping away at his phone.
LOL, what the fudge have you been smoking? Seriously, you need to learn to come up with better comebacks. Oh, by the way, I hope you weren't trying to keep your chiroptophobia secret from Madison. I may or may not have let that slip. :p

(Overkill, that's me. But hey! I threw the ball this time! and lol you called her Ivy.)

    TP#4

Elena watched the mud form into hail chunks as the freezing wind flowed upwards. Some of the icicles hit the tower that Diglett was perched on, and as ice formed on it, Elena saw how it shook. It didn't look that sturdy now that she focused on it. If they hit it, it might come falling down, and since the Diglett was still stuck, that meant he would too. She was going to have to be really careful.

Persian's shield came into effect as the ice globs crashed down. The bubble was harder than she had previously thought, and instead of bouncing off, some of them shattered upon contact, sending shards across the field. Koko was pelted with ice, and Elena saw the Protect flicker just before another heavy shard came down, dispersing the protective coat all together.

The cat was slammed to the ground fast as it hit, and Elena winced right along with her Pokémon. Luckily the barrage stopped after that. “Koko, are you okay?” she called. Her judgment of how long the Persian could hold the shield had been off, and they had paid for it. She hated when her partners got hurt because of her misjudgments.

The cat shook herself off as she rose, nodding back at her Trainer, still determined to finish the fight. Elena breathed a sigh of relief. She was debating what to do when her Ranger suddenly spoke.

“Haha, what the hell is he on about?” He said, and then when she looked, smiled and said, “Oh sorry, don't mind me. Just have to deal with one of my slower colleagues.” He was texting a reply, and the small taps triggered a memory.

She was back in that burning house again, and Koko was above her on the broken-though floor. She remembered the jar crashing and the coins spilling out as the cat had launched them at her attackers. They had hit the floor in almost-melodic taps, somewhat like the phone's keys. It gave her idea.

She looked at Koko, and the cat was looking at the shards on the ground. They glinted with the bright sunlight streaming down, and Elena knew Koko had an attraction to shiny things. Since they were available, they might as well use them.

“Alright Koko, let's use the environment to save up on your strength. Remember your Pay Day attack? Let's mimic that, only use these ice shards instead. Your Hidden Power should be able to kick these icicles up no problem.” Elena took another long look at the tower, seeing how the frost still stuck to it. “We need to try and avoid the tower though. I don't want us to knock it down. Try to bring the ice in a wide arc over the top. We can maybe weaken the Diglett a little more.”

Elena paused to dig in the shoulder bag she had inherited from her brother, pulling out a small camouflage Parkball. She expanded it and looked at the Diglett again. She didn't know if she could throw something so light that far.

“Koko, once you're done shooting the ice, let's see if you can help direct this Parkball too. Remember the time we stopped Gold League from stealing those Pokémon in Ecruteak with the modified Pokéballs? It's like that. Your wind can do it. We'll have to watch for retaliation from him too.”

The cat nodded at her request as the gem on her forehead gleamed again. Elena knew that all Pokémon had a hidden power inside of them that just needed to be unlocked. Koko's had turned out to be wind, and it had come in handy many times.

She wanted to throw the ball now just in case the tower did fall too. The ball should be light enough that Koko could adjust the path of it if her throw turned out to be horrible. She didn't want the Diglett to get majorly hurt, so if she could catch it before it fell, that would be best. It wasn't just her attacks that she had to worry about either. If the Diglett used a strong attack, he could potentially send his perch rocking too. She kept her eyes on the ground Pokémon, preparing to throw the ball when Koko was ready.

The Persian tensed herself as silver orbs formed around her. They started to spin, and coils of wind traveled with them, adding to their power. The air swirled around the cat as the shards started to shake and lift. They flung upwards, and after calling to Koko to make sure she was ready, Elena threw the ball up.

She locked her eyes on the scene, hoping things work work out.

Buzz watched as Elena orchestrated a fantastic approach to the towering Diglett. He was glad to see this trainer had the ingenuity to back up her less popular Pokemon choice. Persians Hidden Power technique lifted up the shattered ice crystals. They were sent hurtling aross the sky arcing over the stranded Ground type. Most of the shards missed the Pokemon soaring helplessly over the target.

The tower looked fit to collapse at any moment, and as the last few ice shards slammed hard into the Diglett the mud fortress it had built began to topple. Cracks began to form throughout its structure.

Elena was already prepared for this, she had prepared her Park Ball, and much like the ice shards that had been on the ground, instructed Koko to guide the ball to its target. Diglett was now falling in a torrent of mud and ground.

Buzz was hoping the ball would connect, or that fall could be fatal for Diglett. "River be ready to teleport and catch, Diglett, should the ball miss." Time appeared to slow, while the ball soared through the skies, Diglett was falling fast, and Buzz was about to step in, as the ball looked to be soaring over.

Koko, however seemed to be quite in control of the situation as a gust of wind erupted from it, propelling the ball downwards and onto the Diglett. In the signature flash of red light Diglett was absorbed into the Park Ball moments before its unfittng demise. The ball struck the ground, wobbled, then a faint ping sounded across the rocky path.

"Remarkable technique, Elena, I may have to use that one myself, if you don't mind?" Buzz smiled at his trainer. "Now, this is your first time at the park, so to let you know Park rules indicate that I am to look after any Pokemon you capture until our adventure is complete. And no, I am not just stealing as part of my earlier joke." Buzz laughed.

He walked across the battlefield, strewn with earth and ice debris. Picking up the ball and slotting it into his back pack. "Well you made quite the mess," he said looking back at his trainer, "why don't we take a break, you can tell me a bit about yourself and I'll quickly tidy up-"

"You mean, Acherusia, and, Herbacious, will tidy up," River muttered.

"Oh very funny," Buzz said to the green bird. "Anyway, as I was saying, I'll get this tidied up, unless you want to help? It would get things moving quicker."

Most of the ice bits missed the Diglett, but that was okay. The last few hit hard, and Elena watched the tower start to topple. Even though she had prepared for this, her heart still hammered in her chest and her fingers twitched as she waiting to time the ball. She let it fly, and she saw her Ranger tense, like he was going to intervene if he had to. It made her feel better, so in case she messed up, the Diglett wasn't going to be hurt more.

Koko proved to be very good at controlling her wind though, and the Trainer watched as the Parkball arced through the air to strike the Diglett, sucking the Pokémon inside with a flash of red. The faint ping sounded, and Elena let out a breath of relief, laughing uneasily.

Then she smiled, realizing that she had caught her first Park Pokémon and it hadn't been a disaster. She ran over to Koko, scratching the Persian's ears as she purred. “You did great, Koko. It was just like we planned.” The cat rubbed against her side in response.

“Remarkable technique, Elena. I may have to use that one myself, if you don't mind?” She could only beam at Buzz's comments. He then told her that he would hang onto the Pokémon until she was ready to leave the Park, saying that he had been kidding earlier when he said her release form was a contract to give him the Pokémon she caught. She just laughed uneasily, silently relieved that he was. She really should read things before she signed them.

“Well you made quite the mess,” he continued, looking at the battlefield that was still strewn with debris. The earth clumps littered the area and the ice shards sparkled in the sun. She agreed, they really did decorate the ground. He suggested taking a break while he cleaned up, adding that it would be faster if she helped.

She nodded, already reaching into her vest for her two other Pokéballs. “Of course we'll help. Right guys?”

She lobbed both of the balls into the air, and two forms emerged. One was a Swampert, a mud-fish Pokémon. He was mostly blue with patches of earth-colored brown over his skin, topped with darker blue fins for a tail on on his head like ears. He had a peaceful expression on his face.

The other was Flygon, and the insect-like dragon looked happy to be out of his ball again. He bobbed around in the air, taking in the scene.

Elena nodded to them. “Okay, let's help out our Ranger to clean up this mess we made. Fred,” she addressed her Swampert, “you can start out by flattening some of these dirt and ice clumps. Flygon,” she inwardly flinched at a lack of a nickname for him, “let's work on getting that tower down. It's still partially frozen, so use your Dragonbreath to heat it up and make it more malleable. Then we can pull it down gently.”

Koko was batting around some of the glinting ice pieces, and Elena figured she would let her be. She deserved a rest for the hard work she did, and besides, eventually the cat would help out. Hopefully they could clean this up quickly. She liked the Park so far, but being far away from what was happening on the mainland made her a little nervous. She was too far away to be any help to her friends if they needed it.

Buzz was glad it seemed as though Elena would be willing to help out, he was almost pleased he had chosed to take this run, rather than flirting with Madison. Almost pleased.

The girl threw two Pokéballs in the air releasing a Swampert and a Flygon. Buzz had never been particularly fond of Flygons, but he wasn't keen on most ground types, except for his Swampert. Acherusia had proven to be quite useful at times. He figured now would be a one of those times. He quickly released Acherusia.

Elena nodded to them. “Okay, let's help out our Ranger to clean up this mess we made. Fred,” she addressed her Swampert, “you can start out by flattening some of these dirt and ice clumps. Flygon, let's work on getting that tower down. It's still partially frozen, so use your Dragonbreath to heat it up and make it more malleable. Then we can pull it down gently.”

Buzz chuckled as the Flygon began using its Dragonbreath attack, "I was thinking more aggressive tactics to take down the tower. For example, use Hammer Arm to smash the bottom half of the tower, then start stamping around to flatten the rocks back down," Buzz smiled as as his Mudfish Pokémon nodded, "after all, this is the route to Mount Deckbi, it doesn't have to be a beautiful path."

Soon the earth tower the Diglett had created was brought crashing down, and the ground was levelled out with ease, thanks to the collection of Pokémon. Buzz smiled as the path returned to its normal appearance. “Well thanks, Elena, you’ve been a great help,” Buzz smiled at his trainer. “Let’s get moving though, I am sure there are lots of Pokémon you wish to see.”

Buzz quickly returned Acherusia, and began walking onwards up the path, carefully avoiding one remaining ice shard which he proceeded to kick off the side of the path into the dirt. He lifted off his hat. as he scratched his head, and wiped his head revealing dark blonde, brown hair that was quite scruffy looking. The sun was still really bright, he wondered if it was going to be this sweltering all day, though it never stopped him wearing his beanie.

“You know, you have a really odd attachment to that beanie, Buzz,” River said.

Yes, I know, you’ve told me a million times. Get over it, Buzz replied, rolling his eyes. Buzz looked around but before he could start talking to Elena, a whirlwind of dirt was swept into his open mouth. Coughing and spluttering he looked around furious as to what had caused the sudden storm. He began to squint as the only way to see through the storm, without his eyes being covered in dust.

He couldn’t find the cause of the sand storm, he was worried it would be a Tyranitar and all that stomping around woke it up, but he hadn’t heard the distinctive cry, instead all he could hear was a low pitch groan. He continued to search furiously before is eyes fell on a small mud pool further up the path. Mud was being splattered everywhere, by a small tan hippopotamus like creature, it had a a curiously large mouth.

“A Hippopotas, well if you were interested in ground types, there aren’t many more unique. Known for their Sand Stream ability, which is what has caused this sudden eruption,” Buzz shouted to Elena. “Care to try battling a Hippopotas?”

With all of them working at it, it didn't take them long to clear the area and make the entrance to Deckbi look mostly like it did before they got there. Koko didn't help much, but at least she didn't bother anyone. She had curled up in a sun patch and rested while she watched them. Elena hadn't really expected much from her anyway, being a cat. She always tended to laze around for long parts of the day.

Since the Persian had done her part for a while, the cat had no qualms about returning to her Pokéball to rest some more. Fred and Flygon stayed out though and were content to follow Elena as the Ranger took them farther down the path.

Buzzer opened his mouth like he was going to say something, and then a whirlwind of dirt struck, sweeping sand into his mouth. He sputtered, coughing the dirt out. He glared into the wind storm, trying to find the source.

Elena whipped her arm up to try and block the blast from stinging her eyes, making sure to keep her mouth closed. She knew why Glenne wore goggles now, and she was wishing she had brought some. If this Pokémon was one she wanted to fight, it was going to be tricky to navigate though it. The girl had heard some pretty powerful creatures could generate sandstorms so suddenly.

Finally, a small, tan hippo-like Pokémon appeared. Elena's eyes widened as she saw. She was adorable. She was mostly darker brown with lighter patches on top of her head and back with a bigger mouth and nose. Ever since meeting Glenne, the girl had been more interested in Ground types. She had been shown a picture by the older girl a while ago and had been on a hunt for one ever since. This was perfect.

She was lost in her own thoughts, but Buzzer's question brought her back to the present. “Care to try battling a Hippopotas?”

    She nodded. “Absolutely.”

Flygon cried out as she spoke weaving through the air to fly in front of her. He seemed excited for a battle, and the look he gave her made it hard to refuse. She was a little worried about him, as his willingness sometimes put him in harms way. She had to learn his battle style better. He was relatively new to her team, and they hadn't had much experience together. Still, if they never battled she could never learn, and she wasn't about to deny him an opportunity when he was so eager.

“Alright, Flygon, you're up!” The dragon happily responded with a cry as he bobbed in the air. She figured what he really needed was encouragement and a little confidence. That had helped her.

“You can totally do this. We'll have to be careful though, since I've never seen a Hippopotas battle before. Your flight should help to stay clear of some ground type attacks, and I know you like sandstorms, so that shouldn't bother you either.” Flygon nodded to her, and he turned back toward their opponent, waiting for Elena to call out direction.

She stepped closer to the wild Pokémon, trying to keep her face slightly covered from the thrashing sand. “Let's start out with a Sonicboom, only let's see if combining it with your Supersonic attack works. They're both waves, so in theory it could. Send the Supersonic a little after though, Maybe if she's focused on avoiding the boom she'll get hit by the second wave.”

Flygon nodded and flew forward and away from her so she didn't get caught up in the attack. He began to flap his trapezoid wings rapidly, causing the air around him to shake. The air seemed to form into blades, and he let his energy build up a little before launching them at the hippo. The waves rippled the sand as they moved.

Next he began to make a buzzing sound. It was something between a screech and a happy coo. It was just weird, and Elena thought about that every time she heard it. By now it had stopped bothering her, but she knew it affected others. The air pulsed outward from the noise like the boom had, and it phased towards the hippo at a slower rate than the first attack.

She was a little worried about the sandstorm interfering with the attacks, but there wasn't much she could do about it right now. If she had to, she thought they could maybe counter it later. She would just have to see what happened.

Buzz was pleased that they had already encountered another Pokémon that Elena wished to capture.

"Alright, Flygon, you're up!" Elena said, as the Dragon fly like Pokémon hoverred into its battle position. “You can totally do this. We'll have to be careful though, since I've never seen a Hippopotas battle before. Your flight should help to stay clear of some ground type attacks, and I know you like sandstorms, so that shouldn't bother you either.”

The Flygon's wings began to vibrate as blades of air rushed towards the Hippopotas. At this very moment the Hippopotas let out a huge Yawn, and a great bubble was shot towards Flygon. The Sonic Boom attack sliced the bubble in half, while one half popped completely, the other was sent off course flying straight at Buzz. He had no time to react and the bubble popped in his face. His eyes began to droop, he was suddenly very sleepy.

Meanwhile Flygon, had begun to make a curious buzzing noise, River Tam didn't like and raised her wings to cover her ears. River was now chuckling at the drowsy Buzz, though it came out as a squaking. The buzzing noise seemed to affect the Hippopotas to, a glazed look crossed its eyes.

Elena watched as Flygon's Sonic Boom went shooting across the field just as Hippopotas yawned deeply and released a giant pink bubble. The wave sliced it clean in half. One side popped, and she breathed relief. She had seen that attack before; one touch of that bubble would've made Flygon drowsy until he dropped like a rock.

The second half of the bubble sailed towards Buzz though, and he wasn't quick enough to move. His eyes began to droop, and River squawked with what seemed like laughter. The Trainer couldn't tell exactly how close he was to falling asleep because of the sandstorm.

Looking back to the Hippo, she saw her become affected by Flygon's Supersonic. Her eyes glazed over, and Elena knew now was the time to strike, while it was unfocused.

“Alright, Flygon, now's our chance!” she called, sputtering a little as the sand flew in her face. She raised her arm again to block her eyes as she spoke to her dragon. “This blasted sandstorm is making things annoying, so let's try to work it in our favor! You're really good at making them too. Let's counter this one with one of our own.”

Flygon seemed to like the idea. He loved to make the sand dance. “Okay, since this storm is making sand mostly come from one direction, lets try to spin yours the other way. They might cancel each other out or if you put a lot of energy into it, yours could absorb this one. We should do it before she shakes off your attacks, while she's somewhat distracted.”

The dragon nodded and began to focus his energy, causing a whirlwind of sand to form below him. Then, Elena remembered their clean up task earlier and got an idea. “Hey, Flygon, once you're done, can you try adding a Dragonbreath to it? We might be able to make a makeshift fire spin if the dragon fire catches onto the wind.”

He bobbed happily in the air, and Elena was glad he was so compliant. She had to make sure she took care of him well since he was so willing to please. She didn't want him to risk himself too much, though she wasn't going to hold him back.

Flygon formed his fire again, the fuschia and gold waves forming into a beautiful chain that he was going to try to form into the sand. Elena was hoping that if anything else, the fire would mess with the sand the Hippo could use to defend herself. The Trainer knew she could shift sand through her pores, and if they would work the sand into the Pokémon, it's special effect might take place. Ground types were normally immune to paralysis, but the dragon fire didn't work quite the same way as electricity did. They might be able to clog the sand, immobilizing the hippo in a different way.

“You can do it, Flygon!” she shouted, and with any luck they would be able to catch this Ground Pokémon.

Buzz eye's continued to droop and he collapsed to floor fast asleep. The last thing he heard was “Alright, Flygon, now's our chance!” she called, sputtering a little. “This blasted sandstorm is making things annoying, so let's try to work it in our favor! You're really good at making them too. Let's counter this one with one of our own.”

River began squaking with laughter, when she noticed that Buzz was now fast asleep on this path. She could have woken him but she had a better idea. She just had to try and establish a connection with Elena, hoping that Elena didn't have any psychic intrusion protection up. That always messed with stuff.

"Elena, Elena? Can you hear me? No need to panic; this is River Tam speaking, since the doofus over there is now fast asleep," River spoke into Elena's mind, "I figure we can just carry on the run, and I will drag him around with Psychic, ok?"

Meanwhile Flygon and begun to raise its wings and flapped furiously as he tried to counter the oncoming sandstorm. Soon enough River could just about notice that the sandstorm was swirling in the opposite direction.

Following Elena's last little bit of advice; Flygon let out its DragonBreath attack, as the fuschia and gold waves weaved their way into the sandstorm.

River saw the Hippopotas lift itself up and slam its feet hard into the ground forming small rocks that were soon sent hurtling towards the Flygon. Flygon's lower half was soon surrounded by Rock pillars as the Rock Tomb attack struck.

The sparkling sandstorm imbibed with DragonBreath swirled its way around the Hippopotas, River couldn't really see why or how, but the Hippopotas seemed to slow down and struggle to move. Its eyes glazed over, River could tell its confusion hadn't worn off.

"Wow, nice work, Elena, you are clever than the idiot that I got stuck with," River said enthusiastically.

Elena was focused on what Flygon was doing when there was a fuzzy pressure on the back of her mind. Then, she heard a voice.

“Elena, Elena? Can you hear me? No need to panic; this is River Tam speaking, since the doofus over there is now asleep. I figure we can just carry on the run, and I will drag him around with Psychic. Okay?”

The Trainer looked back at Buzz, and sure enough he was dozing in place. Elena had worried for a second, but the pressure on her mind was a little like Horus's back home. It was even the same feeling, seeing how they were in the same species chain. She nodded towards the bird.

“Okay. I'm sure you know what you're doing.”

She turned her attention back to her dragon just as he whipped up his own sandstorm. For a second she thought it was just going to be absorbed by the Hippo's, but after gaining momentum the whole thing started swirling in the opposite direction. Then, Flygon released his dragon fire, and it weaved into the sandstorm.

She shivered involuntarily, rubbing at her left arm. His fire was different she kept telling herself, but she couldn't deny it was starting to bother her, even though he hadn't used it that much. She could still smell the smoke and feel the weight of that beam on her...Not here, she firmly told herself. She wouldn't do this at the Park. It wasn't even the same thing.

But fire was still fire. She understood that too well.

She was brought back to the battle as the Hippopotas slammed its feet into the ground to make a bunch of rocks come loose. They hurtled towards Flygon, and the rock pillars surrounded him, trapping him and slowing him down a little. Part of him was okay, probably due to his ability to levitate, but they were going to have to get him out of that.

The fiery sandstorm struck the Hippo next, and she seemed to be struggling to move. Elena also saw that her eyes were still glazed. Maybe this was the time to try to capture, now that it was worn out a little and a little hazy. But first she was going to help Flygon.

“Wow, nice work, Elena. You are cleverer than the idiot that I got stuck with.”

Elena beamed internally at River's praise. She hadn't had a lot of it growing up, and now she wasn't about to let anyone down.

“Great work, Flygon,” she called. “Let's free you from that Rock Tomb. It's a good thing you can do a lot of moves without contact. It's time to use your Earth Power!” Flygon cried out and set to work, already ahead on gathering energy for it.

“Use the ground to break those rocks around you, and if you can get free, send some of that Hippo's way! If you can shift the ground enough, we might be able to confine it to a smaller space. Let's sink in the ground around it.”

Flygon nodded, buzzing his trapezoid wings rapidly as the earth churned below him. Usually he was able to sink in the ground or make it pop upwards in pillars. If the dragon could create a hole for the Hippo, it would make a great target area for her to throw. It might even jostle her to wear her out further.

The only worry was that if the Hippo dug into the ground and avoided it. While Flygon could give chase underground, she didn't like him being out of sight and maybe vulnerable. She was going to try and time the ball right before something like that could happen.

The ground shifted, and she pulled out another Parkball from her vest pocket. She expanded it and waited for Flygon to finish, then tossed it hard. Hopefully the Hippo would be too distracted.

Buzz continued to snooze on the hard rocky path; River amused herself by psychically making his legs dance in his sleep.

Meanwhile, Elena was still locked in battle with the Hippopotas. The Flygon concentrated and cracks began to form in the floor, a golden energy shone as the earth crashed into the entombing rocks.

The shattered remains of the Rock Tomb flew in all directions smashing into the Hoppopotas. River scanned the Hippo's mind, it was a blur of thoughts and memories. An image of a Hippowdon disappearing into a sandstorm, River's heart dropped as the image flooded her mind. Meanwhile the Hippoportas in the flood of emotion stumbled as it went to attack.

River pulled herself out of the Hippopotas' mind as Elena threw a Park Ball; the Ground type was pulled into a glare of red energy.

"Hey; nice work, Elena, you got yourself a Hippopotas, but I scanned its mind and it looks like it lost its Mother years ago; make sure to take good care of it," River said to Elena as she lifted the Park Ball from the ground and slotted it into Buzz's bag that was sprawled by his slumbering body. "Well lets keep on moving shall we?"

Flygon performed the Earth Power beautifully. A golden glow accompanied the shifting of the earth, and the Rock Tomb around the dragon shattered as the two impacted. Pieces went flying towards the Hippo. Elena threw her park ball then and held her breath as it bounced off the Pokémon and sucked it up in a beam of red energy. It didn't break out. She let out a sigh of relief.

“Nice work, Elena. You got yourself a Hippopotas,” River said in her mind. “But I scanned its mind and it looks like it lost its Mother years ago; make sure to take good care of it.”

Elena was a little quiet as she watched River float the Parkball from the ground into Buzz's bag for safe keeping. She knew what it was like to not have a family. She hadn't had one in years. Instead, her Pokémon took up that gap, and she had never regretted that choice. She always loved to have new members of her family. She swore she would take care of her. “I promise,” she whispered.

She shook her head a little then, putting a smile back on her face. She beamed at Flygon. “Great job! You were wonderful!”

The dragon buzzed happily, flying up to her to be stroked behind his antennas. He then flew over to Fred to chatter, who just smiled back at him serenely. Elena just laughed. The Swampert had been so quiet the whole match. He wasn't fussed about anything. In fact, he never really cared if he didn't get to battle either. Him being so at peace calmed her down sometimes.

“Well lets keep moving on, shall we?” River said, and Elena nodded.

“Alright guys, there's still plenty of this mountain to see. River's going to be taking us until Buzz wakes up.”

With a blast of psychic energy, River lifted Buzz and his bag into the air. He was surrounded by a pink aura as he hovered fast asleep. “Alright guys, there's still plenty of this mountain to see. River's going to be taking us until Buzz wakes up," Elena said to her Pokémon.

River flew up into the air, and headed up the path. The limp body of Buzz floated a few metres behind; River glanced back and a smile crept across her beak.

"Heh, you think he is ok?" River asked Elena.

Meanwhile, a rustling from a nearby small bush alerted River, her head flicked to the bush as a small orange Pokémon with large jaws crawled out. "A Trapinch, I guess it sensed its evolution nearby. Any interest in battling a Trapinch?"

River Tam flew up into the air to continue on, and Buzz's body floated a few meters behind her. The Ranger still wouldn't wake, despite the weaving he was doing through the air. Elena wondered if the Xatu was really paying attention to him or if she'd let him run into rock or some other obstacle.

“Heh, you think he is okay?” River asked.

Elena nodded reassuringly. He looked fine. It was interesting though, for all the bickering and snarky remarks she had about him, she still seemed like she cared. Funny how that worked out.

A rustling in the bushes made River flick her head towards the sound, and then a small orange Pokémon with large jaws crawled out. She instantly recognized the most basic form of her dragon.

“A Trapinch. I guess it sensed its evolution nearby. Any interest in battling a Trapinch?”

Elena shook her head, smiling at the sand Pokémon. “I think we'll leave this one alone. Hopefully it will let us pass without trouble. If not, I heard you guys have some doll things that distract wild Pokémon right? If we can't just leave I'd like to use one of those.”

While she'd normally like to stay and visit the other Pokémon, she didn't want to be away from the mainland for so long. Recently, some troubling things had been happening unexpectedly. She and her friends were working to counter a couple groups that were up to something big, and confrontations seemed to come up suddenly all the time. There wasn't really a good time to do anything really, but she had wanted to come to the Park anyway. She might as well try. Worse case scenario she would just have to leave early and come back another time.

Flygon happily watched the Pokémon from his family line as she waited for River to lead them on.
