Voltaire Magneton's journey through the Botanic Gardens had been a quick one. As in, a really speedy one. He had battled the first three encounters on sight, and was content with them. While I was kind of disappointed that the run had ended so soon - who knows what else he might have encountered, after all - I was also rather glad because that, in a way, meant I had done my job properly. It was always refreshing to see a trainer walk out of the National Park with new partners that he or she was happy about.

Only problem was, now I was bored. Again. And that was never a good thing for me - boredom can really kill when you're just itching to do something for a change. Plus, I hadn't taken a trainer through the park for quite some time now - Voltaire being the first after a long hiatus - and that further fueled my urge to get back into the gist of ranger duties.

I ended up swirling around and around in my swivel chair for at least fifteen minutes, just doing absolutely nothing, except for having fun and going insane. Welcome to my life - where I kill boredom by acting like a crazy, immature kid in a revolving chair. I do the same when I have writer's block, too.

"This is not working," I grumbled as the chair came to a stop. Then again, did I really expect to rid myself of boredom by doing this? Perhaps.

Sighing audibly, I finally decided to heave myself up and walk around the Ranger Headquarters. Perhaps then I would be able to find something significant to do.

Surprisingly, I was not the only one drowning in boredom today. Hanging around the main area was Ivy, an Elite Ranger who was one of the most adventurous and daring trainers I've ever met. She was also known to be a "hard-ass" to the male rangers, and was sometimes stubborn as well. All in all, she was a really easy-going and fun to be with person as long as you wouldn't get on her bad side.

"Man, I need another run," she muttered with a sigh as I sat down on one of the chairs next to her.

I nodded. "I need one myself," I replied.

Her eyes lit up suddenly, as if with a new-found vigor within. "You could have mine! Nobody's taken it yet," she shouted giddily, almost screaming into my ears.

I chuckled at her sudden enthusiasm, almost wanting to ask if she really did have a sign-up waiting at the so-called Front Gate - April Fool's maybe? After all, my Ranger's Digital Assistant hadn't beeped any time in the past day or so. I glanced at the primarily orange-colored device strapped onto my wrist that was a bit similar to the design of the latest Poketch's of Sinnoh - it seemed to be working fine (despite it not having been used in months), so why hadn't I received any alert? But I agreed anyway. "Yeah, I could."

"Woo! Thanks! It's been there for three days or so as it is." My mouth formed an "o" shape as I realized why my device hadn't notified me of a run needing a ranger - I had only found the RDA around some time after lunch two days ago when I got around to actually properly cleaning up my office after the long break, and Ivy had apparently sent her form in before that time.

"That and we're having a bit of a slow ranger season," she added. I couldn't agree more - there used to be a large influx of trainers coming into the Park back before I took that break; what happened then?

Pushing my other thoughts aside for the time being, I asked, "Where to?"

    "Power Plant," she answered.

This time, it was my eyebrows' turn to shoot up. "Ooh, I don't think I've actually taken anyone through there yet." I pondered to myself a moment, then corrected my earlier statement. "Oh wait, I have. Except that I only switched in for another ranger that time, and the run had ended really quickly anyway."

The Abandoned Power Plant was a large, run-down building that was full of dirt, cobwebs, and broken things like windows, doors, and other equipment. It wasn't exactly one of the places I fancied too much, as it was obviously very old and dusty, and it gave off a sort of eerie aura about it - but I guess that added to the fun and thrill of the whole adventure. I looked down at what I was wearing: my usual attire of a comfortable v-neck green shirt underneath the ranger vest, a pair of jeans, plus light blue sneakers. The shirt I was wearing now was one of my favorites, given to me by a close friend of mine for my birthday a year ago. I was definitely not going to get it ruined or dirty by wearing it while going through the abandoned building - same goes to the rest of my outfit.

"Okay, just give me some time to change in to a more appropriate attire for this expedition, then we can meet up there or something," I told her, getting up to head to my room.

I quickly chose an old, plain black, short-sleeved shirt that clung to my body, made of soft cottony material, as well as a pair of olive-colored cargo pants. After changing in the restroom, I dug out an old pair of shoes - they were worn-out, white-ish running shoes that had served their purpose a long time ago, with visible slight tears in the sides, and most of its once-bright green streaks now faded into dim and dull ones. Fortunately, they still fit - partly because of the fact that they had somewhat expanded over continuous use back in the days, and partly due to my feet having stopped growing so quickly after the sudden growth spurt with being an athlete.

I filled my brown bag with all the emergency items I would usually bring along, despite knowing that Ivy would more or less be prepared for this run anyway. A good number of my Pokemon were too large to be using in an adventure of this sort, considering how dangerous an old building might be, so I decided to bring Adrian, my Gallade, Bolt the Electivire, and Hamilton, my Heracross.

I called out my Blade Pokemon, asking him to teleport us to the Abandoned Power Plant. He nodded without uttering a single telephatic word, but somehow, deep down, I knew he didn't like the Plant any more so than I did. I decided, while being transported to the area, that I would not ask assistance from him this time unless in utmost emergencies.

Upon arriving at the abandoned building, I returned the Psychic-Fighting-type back to his Pokeball, then stopped to gaze at the large and tall Power Plant. It didn't exactly have that welcoming atmosphere around it, what with smoke, dust and fog clouding the whole place. Hopefully, this run would prove to have little to no trouble, especially regarding our safety inside the old building.

Lounging in the main outpost always made Ivy tired. Seeing everyone running around like busy worker Combee reminded her of the piles and piles of work she had yet to get to. It always seemed like there was more paperwork to be done. There had been a lack of runs lately too, which decreased her time in the field and kept her cooped up here.

That's why she had decided to fill out an application to go on a run herself. It would let her get her adventure quota in as well as let her Pokemon stretch her legs. Unfortunately, there had been a slump in Ranger activity as well, and her run had gone unnoticed until Elisa came to sit by her and agreed to take her run.

“Okay, just give me some time to change into a more appropriate attire for this expedition, then we can meet up there or something,” she said as she rose, going off to change.

“Sounds good. I'll see you there.”

Then, Ivy got up herself and straightened out her long canvas vest. It was almost getting too hot for the duster and her black turtleneck, but since she was going to the Power Plant this time, she figured being indoors would help a little. She didn't want to get a cooler uniform since she tended to get scraped up by the environment thanks to all the traipsing around she did.

The woman headed outside to be greeted by sunshine. Haji, her Espeon, was laying on one of the benches she had recently repaired, soaking up the sun rays just like a cat. He blinked open an eye to look at her, and then rose to stretch, arching his back like a feline. Then he jumped down and joined her, ready to go.

“Are you ready to depart?” he asked.

“Sort of. I guess we're just waiting on—”

She was cut off as one of her other Pokemon came through the trees next to headquarters. The Psychic-type was nearly as tall as the red-haired woman, only his hair was cropped and shaded green. He had a white humanoid body too, and green blade-like arms. He also had a scowl on his face, which wasn't anything new.

“Hey, Vergil,” she greeted. He just huffed in response, crossing his arms.

She had debated taking him with them at all, but Haji had insisted. The Espeon wanted her to spend more time with the Fighting-type in the hopes that he would warm up to her. She had been trying that since he was captured, but there was no progress. Haji had also convinced her to recently take him with her to the Power Plant for the Easter Event they hosted, and that had almost been a disaster.

She had thought that things had slightly changed between them while there, but after the event was over, Vergil went back to being the same way: cold and angry. Still, she was stubborn too, and she was past the stage of making excuses for him. She was being tougher now, and the Gallade would just have to deal.

Ivy nodded to Haij. “Let's go.”

Vergil stepped closer with a sigh, like it was the last thing he wanted to do. He needed to be in Haji's range so they could teleport. She didn't think the fighter would help. “Oh quit being a drama queen,” she said, rolling her eyes.

Immediately he stiffened and scowled at her, but he uncrossed his arms and looked less like a pouting child as a result. Ivy had found that when she actually stood up and challenged him, she got better results.

In a blink, she was experiencing the sensation of nothing, and when her feet landed on solid ground once again, she saw they had arrived at the Plant. Elisa as standing near the entrance, and Ivy waved as she started to walk towards her. She motioned for Haji and Vergil to follow. One did with light steps, the other did with stomps.

A few moments later, there was a flash of light a couple of feet to my right. Turning, I saw Ivy followed by two Psychic-type Pokemon: one being an Espeon, and the other, a Gallade. She waved and I waved back, and I couldn't help but notice the difference between the two creatures behind her - the Blade Pokemon didn't seem to be taking a liking to going on this run as his stomping showed; Haji seemed very much used to it, either that, or he was nonchalant about it.

I pondered to myself if this was considered an "emergency" for me to bring out my own Gallade - could Adrian manage to talk some sense into the other Psychic-Fighting-type, or would I just be bothering him?

Deciding I'd let it slide for now, and let the Elite try to sort things out for herself first before I intrude, I began to walk with the three of them towards the actual Power Plant. I promised myself I would bring out Adrian if things turned sour and the adventure went downhill, though.

"Hey, Ivy, is there anything specific you're looking for?" I asked, pushing open the creaky old steel gate of the Plant. "And would you be interested in any 'mons you can get from the local PokeMart, as this place is just flooding with them?"

We were greeted with, of course, a loadful of dust that puffed up every time someone entered - what else was expected out of an old, abandoned building? I had a sudden feeling of gratefulness that I didn't have asthma or wasn't very allergic to dirt. Once the dust had a chance to settle (for now), we carefully continued on in; every step caused another cloud of dirt to puff up, however. Light was scarce - our only hope would've been the natural source of light from outside, but the foggy and smoke-filled atmosphere blocked out any rays of sunshine. Inside, lightbulbs were positioned at regular intervals, but that didn't help any as most of them were either dead or flickering, casting shadows over our group. Windows were shattered and the glass could barely even be called transparent what with all the dirt having accumulated on them over the years. Here, in this part of the Plant, the floors were made out of cement, so they weren't creaky, which made them seem less dangerous - I didn't know about the rest of the building, though. The air was humid, and I wouldn't be surprised if beads of sweat would suddenly break out on our foreheads. Holes dotted the walls and ceilings, and at some point, even the floor.

"Watch out," I warned, gesturing over to the gaping hole at the right side. We had to carefully slide our way past it, our bodies just inches away from touching the other wall.

Gazing at the path in front of us, the end of the corridor turned right, and at that intersection, we could see sparks coming out from the connecting hallway. There was sure to be a wild Pokemon there - or if it was a machine, it would surely be something of interest to be generating electricity like this. As we neared, I could feel goosebumps running along my arms, a sort of tingling, static vibe that was no doubt the work of whatever was just around the corner. Even the back of my neck experienced this same sensation, and suddenly it seemed as though the air itself was filled with electric currents.

Seeing as we would have to face it either way, I led Ivy and her two partners 'round the bend, where the static electricity seemed to grow with each passing step. I shielded my eyes against the bright flashes of electrical energy, squinting at the Pokemon responsible for this. It was small and green with yellow markings, and from there emerged the yellow erratic beams that had caught our attention. With its mouth open, two fangs each on its upper and lower jaw were discernible. More tendrils of electricity were shooting out from its small, pointed, yellow-tipped tail, and as its hind legs had spikes on the heels, it gave the impression that the entity possessed three tails. Its forelegs and chin also had spiky extensions, but its most distinctive feature would be the large head crest, which had angular lightning-like patterning on the sides, with a continuation of the yellow coloration down the Lightning Pokemon's snout.

"Not a bad way to start a run, I'd say," I remarked, turning to Ivy. "Would you like to battle the Electrike?"

Elisa was looking at Vergil and her a little strangely as Ivy approached. The other woman looked back at her Gallade, turned back to Elisa, and shrugged. “He's generally a stick in the mud—don't mind him.” That earned a snort from the fighter, but she couldn't tell if he was amused or not. At least he hadn't gotten outwardly angry.

The Ranger pushed open the gate as they started to walk toward the old, abandoned building. The bars creaked like in those creepy movies. She walked without fear, however, since the worst she could come up against was some poachers, and she had already dealt with plenty of those. Her limbs still tingled sometimes from being jolted with their stun guns too many times when she had encountered them in the Woods.

She found herself subconsciously rubbing her wrists and stopped once she noticed. Elisa's question snapped her out of her thoughts. “Hey, Ivy, is there anything specific you're looking for? And would you be interested in any 'mons you can get from the local PokeMart, as this place is just flooding with them?”

Ivy shrugged. “I guess I don't really go on runs for anything specific. Lately people have been offering rewards for certain Pokemon too, since they're too busy to come here themselves, so I like to help them out. The extra coin doesn't hurt either. It's hard to believe how much these guys eat,” she joked. She felt Haij's amusement flicker through her mind and smiled. Vergil didn't say anything, which she expected. “I suppose if I found a common Pokemon that would fit with my team, we could give it a shot. I don't have an Electric-type yet.”

They entered the building and started roaming the halls. Ivy was content to let Elisa lead the way. She had just gotten done with an Event here that required her to wander around on her own, so this was a nice change in pace. In fact, the Event had inspired her to return here so soon. There were a couple of Pokemon, a Klink in particular, that hadn't wanted her to leave. She had promised to give it a battle when she returned.

“Watch out,” Elisa said as she pointed out a particularly large hole in the path. They had to squeeze close to the wall to get around it. Then, they came to an intersection and turned, and up ahead there was a crackling of electricity. Light danced on the walls. It shouldn't have been any of the machinery, since a lot of it was busted. That meant a Pokemon.

They soon found out the cause of the electrical sparks. A small green and yellow dog was sending currents from its fangs to its tail. It was pretty cute, with tiny flecks of fur sticking up near its hocks and tail and the smooth crest on her head. It was an Electrike.

“Not a bad way to start a run, I'd say,” Elisa said, and Ivy nodded. “Would you like to battle the Electrike?” she asked.

“Definitely,” the woman answered. “I know I saw a request for one of these up on the boards.”

Now the question was who to send out to battle. Vergil was definitely out. The Electric-type was small, and the Gallade was likely still ticked off that she was dragging him places, even if it was on Haji's suggestion. She didn't want him taking it out on the innocent wild Pokemon. Haji was more the Electrike's size, and he would likely handle the situation well, but she wanted him on hand just in case Vergil got aggressive right away.

That left her other Pokemon, Candle. She was confident that her Fire-type could handle this just fine. She reached into a vest pocket and pulled out the Park Ball, bouncing it off the floor as her Pokemon emerged. The chandelier-like Pokemon bobbed up and down happily as soon as she was released, making an eerie, happy sound. Her head flames danced wildly, and she swung her candlestick arms back and forth. The Chandelure even did a circle around Ivy.

“Hey, Candle,” Ivy greeted, smiling at her. “You ready to take on this opponent?” she asked, nodding her head in the green dog's direction.

In response, Candle made a humorous roar for a war cry and puffed out her body, flexing her arms like a weightlifter would. She was a pretty brave Pokemon, willing to take on any challenge no matter how difficult it seemed. That was another reason that Ivy brought her along; if Vergil got out of hand, she wouldn't be afraid to handle him. That and she liked the fighter for some odd reason.

Even now she was trying to greet him, closing her eyes in a happy smile and nuding Vergil in the side. In response he frowned and tried to shove her away and turn at the same time, and Ivy just shook her head. That didn't upset Candle either, since she was used to dealing with his antics.

Candle zoomed out in front of her next, making little 'grr' sounds, although they sounded a little comical. She was ready to start, though, which was always handy. She had almost infinite amounts of energy sometimes.

“Okay, Candle, let's start this off with a Haze. Make it as thick and smoky as you can. This is a smaller area, so let's make it a little harder to see. Her electricity is going to be able to reach a radius, but if she can't see you well, she might not put enough power in it to reach you.”

Haze would make the area foggy, and Candle wouldn't really need to see to start out. It was somewhat like Smog, a Poison-type attack, only Haze was much safe. Smog was one of those poisonous moves that were also flammable, and they were going to be using those. She didn't want to cause any explosions. She had already done that in Oktori once, setting off a miniature explosion while battling a Lucario in a pit.

“Once you've got that done, use a Calm Mind to enhance your senses. You won't be able to see as well, so rely on sensing the dog's energy patterns and aim yourself that way. Then, dart off cloaked in a Flame Charge and try to strike the Electrike with a hit and run so you can hopefully avoid some of her attack. Chances are you won't be able to dodge all of it, are you okay with that?” she asked, just to be safe.

Candle nodded without a hitch, understanding that there was damage in battles on both sides. Then, she opened her mouth, where tendrils of smoky energy started trailing out. The Chanelure might run around blind a little with Flame Charge if she couldn't lock onto the Electrike right away, but that was alright. They were taking things easy to begin with. Ivy would come up with a more complex plan later. This wasn't a bad start.

Retrieving a Parkball from her vest pocket, the Elite ranger called out her Chandelure. I figured she must've caught her at Mount Deckbi, thus the camo-colored housing. The creature hovered around her trainer happily, the flames on her head flickering wildly, showing her enthusiasm for the battle to come.

"You ready to take on this opponent?" the woman asked, to which her Pokemon answered with a hearty roar that echoed around the building.

The Fire-Ghost-type nudged the Gallade in greeting, but the Blade Pokemon only shoved her away in annoyance. She didn't seem to be too bothered by his hostile reaction, though.

Ivy called out her first command, which was for Candle to use Haze to make it harder for the Electrike to see, and possibly cause her attacks to miss their target as well. This would then be followed by Calm Mind, then a Flame Charge to finish the plan off.

The Luring Pokemon sucked in a deep breath, then with a might heave, blew out puffs of thick smoke from her mouth. As she released a steady stream of blackness, the billows soon flooded into the whole corridor, even seeping through cracks in either side of the Plant, as well as through shattered windows leading to rooms. The fog that emerged made it nearly impossible to see anything, creating an even darker atmosphere and causing the sparks that had been bursting out from the Electrike's shoulders to die down. Apparently, the creature's sense of power was lost amiss losing his sense of sight for this battle.

The Chandelure then began to clear her thoughts, relaxing as she breathed a content sigh of relief. There was no reason to get fussed up about nothing, and she preferred to have a clear and calm mind while battling - it made her feel more courageous, not really having to worry about anything. She then began to glow an indigo hue, boosting not only her Special Attack and Special Defense stat, but also her sensing capabilities. By throwing her worries and negative thoughts out the door, it allowed for her to feel things more deeply, allowed her to envision things and have a sense of what was going on and where the Electric-type was in all that smoke.

As the bubble of energy dissipated, it was quickly replaced by a coat of kindling embers - it was as though the creature herself had caught on fire. You could barely even see her now, hidden behind not only some clouds of smoke, but also bright redish-orange blazes that danced around her body, growing bigger with each passing moment. The humidity in this place seemed to be helping both sides of the battle - it charged up the green dog, but also allowed for a faster burning rate for the Ghost-Fire-type.

Engulfed in a sea of flames, Candle bravely charged into the thick cloud of blackness, feeling her way around towards the wild creature. It was a few tense moments later that we heard a howl of pain that no doubt came from the Electrike. By now, Ivy's partner would've already rammed into the foe, leaving a scorching mark from the collision, then was probably doubling-back at this very moment to attempt to evade whatever retaliation the Electric-type would throw her way.

However, it seemed that the Luring Pokemon couldn't have avoided this next attack no matter how quickly she returned to this side of the battlefield. She hadn't yet emerged from the layers of smoke, and the next thing we knew was a sudden burst of electricity, erratic rays shooting out in all directions. The flashes of yellow illuminated the area for a couple of minutes, pushing through the thick fog that had settled over us. In these few moments of enlightenment, we caught sight of the Chandelure being electrocuted, tendrils of electrical energy seeping into her bloodstream. The fur on the wild entity's shoulders were standing on end, and sparks were cracking near them. In fact, her whole body was bristling, empowered by the hot temperature that had caused static electricity to flare up all around her. The zig-zag-like beams soon died down, allowing for Candle to hover back to Ivy's side. Aside from taking damage and a couple of jolts to her system, Candle had put up with the attack quite well - she hadn't been paralyzed, fortunately.

Candle came out of the conflict like a champion. After she had struck with the Flame Charge and the Electrike howled, Ivy had expected some sort of retaliation. She winced as the Chandelure's outline could be seen enduring the electricity even in the thick fog. Candle seemed not too worse for the wear, thankfully, coming out with only minor shocks to her system. She wasn't paralyzed, which was a nasty little side effect to most electric attacks, and they were well on their way to capturing this Pokemon. The Fire-type was still in high spirits.

“Great work, Candle!” Ivy called. “That worked out really well. Now, I think you'll have some fun for what I've got planned next. Do you remember when you and Haxbat trained in the alleyways by the bar?” she asked.

The Chandelure made an eerie positive sound and bobbed up and down in response, remembering the time. To perfect their Astonish technique, she and Haxbat, her Crobat, had hidden in alleyways next to the bars, which was close to their apartment. Then, as tipsy people walked by, half out of their wits, the two would make strange and surprising faces to scare them. A lot of them had funny reactions, like tripping or running away yelling incoherent things. Watching a drunk person try to run was always a fun experience in itself.

That way, they had had good practice for when they needed to implement the same move in battles and here in the Park. Ivy was planning on using the environment they had set up to their advantage too.

“Alright, to start off with, I want you to hide in the Haze as much as possible. Then, using a weird face with Astonish, startle the Electrike just enough for you to get a Confuse Ray off. Move around and disappear into the fog as much as possible to increase the effect. Your ghost powers will come in handy here,” she said. Candle nodded enthusiastically and waved her arms in anticipation. “Then, fire of a Night Shade, further creeping the little dog out. Hopefully you can confuse her enough to avoid some damage. You'll have fun with it too, won't you?”

Candle bobbed up and down in agreement again. She liked to have fun too. Besides, Candle wouldn't need to do a lot of damage. They just needed to unnerve the Electric-type enough so that she wasted energy faster, thus wearing her down. Then they could go in for the capture.

Confuse Ray was another one of Candle's favorites. Ghastly orbs of energy wrapped around the opponent, inflicting a confused state onto the target. They began to question what they were doing, and it was highly possible for them to mess up techniques, which would protect her ghost.

A lot of that was just distraction, though. The real energy-sapping would come from Night Shade, a strange attack that many ghosts learned. With a superimposed impression of herself, she'd fire a dark beam at the Electrike. That might make her stick out in the hazy atmosphere, but they couldn't just sit around and do nothing.

Candle was used to electricity anyway, since that was the type of her Hidden Power. It had even saved Ivy once, restoring her limbs to a workable condition after being shocked by the poachers. The Chandelure didn't fear any damage she would probably take, and Ivy was glad. They had opportunity to heal later; for now, they had to focus on capture.

Ivy praised her Chandelure for her courageousness as well as for taking that Electric-type attack so well. She then explained her next course of action - something fun and rather cheeky at the same time. This was sure to be an interesting round - I just knew it.

“Alright, to start off with, I want you to hide in the Haze as much as possible. Then, using a weird face with Astonish, startle the Electrike just enough for you to get a Confuse Ray off. Move around and disappear into the fog as much as possible to increase the effect. Your ghost powers will come in handy here,” the Elite Ranger commanded.

Candle seemed to laugh, as though she could already see how much enjoyment she could get out of this. She dove into the smoke once again, popping out here and there, then pushing back in. At one point, I figured she must've suddenly come face-to-face with the opponent, startling the little dog with a horrifying and somewhat ominous expression coupled with eerie shadows surrounding her body. This resulted in a sudden shriek of fear to echo around us, and sparks crackled around the area at the other side. I couldn't quite see what was happening due to the black fog around us, but I managed to come up with a theory of sorts: it was likely that the Electric-type had been frightened out of her wits - what with the Luring Pokemon using her Ghost-type capabilities and the thick mist to disappear and reappear for additional creepiness - and out of instinct (and perhaps sheer terror, as well), her back had further bristled with fear, resulting in more electric shocks released from her reactive fur. Whether or not the tiny yellow currents had struck Ivy's partner, I did not know for sure.

At this point, six golden orbs would've surrounded Candle in place of the shadows. They would be circling her while she hovered around the battleground, well-hidden in the thick layers of blackness. Then, she would suddenly reappear in front of the Lightning Pokemon, frightening the entity even more before unleashing those spheres. The bright, glowing balls would latch themselves onto their target, completely enveloping her, while the Chandelure made her escape - unharmed as the opponent would still probably be much too startled to retaliate with an attack.

There was a faint glow emerging from the other side of the corridor, getting brighter and brighter with each passing moment. And then, an explosion of gold energy rocked the Plant, sending blinding rays of light everywhere. It didn't come close to the Fire-Ghost-type, though - probably due to the fact that she was the one who initiated the move in the first place. By now, I assumed the Electrike was feeling rather dizzy and unfocused - as though he had bumped his attic somewhere hard - with the throbbing only growing stronger with each passing minute.

The Luring Pokemon's next assault would cause her eyes to shimmer a bright blood-red color, while her body would be enveloped in a pale shade of purple, which we could now identify somewhere in the dark atmosphere. From her eyes burst a large black beam with a dark crimson outline, which seemed to be made up of continuous rings that grew larger as they travelled through the air. The ghostly energy barreled into the Electric-type, pulsing against her statically-charged body. Blown away by the force of the collision, she lost her footing and was thrown back, soaring in the air for a brief moment before making an arch and coming back down to the ground with a very audible thud - the friction causing even more electrical energy to charge up.

As the Chandelure slipped back into the black veil that would cover her, the green dog had already pushed herself up, though it looked as though her head was still spinning wildly and her energy was draining rapidly. She hopped to her feet, running around the humid temperature, as if to generate even more static electricity. The electrical charges stored in her fur stimulated its muscles while it was zipping about, her hunches sparking with yellow flares - this was the only reason why I could just vaguely make out where she actually was in spite of the layers of smoke.

Suddenly, the golden color became a blur, signifying that she was moving at a speedy pace. Was she going to charge at her opponent? Her opponent whom she could not even see? Wasn't that a bit rash and wild for her to do? Then again, that earlier Confuse Ray could be taking its toll on her.

What came next was an unexpected thud from the far right side of the hallway, as though someone had crashed right into it. A violent shower of yellow erratic beams burst out, illuminating the battlefield once more. They had obviously come from the Lightning Pokemon, who had apparently slammed herself into the wall, scrunching up her face as her body followed, pressing against her. The collision had caused her shoulders/forelegs and hind legs to unleash all the static they had charged up over the course of the battle. And that was definitely a good load of electricity - a good load of them having been accumulated while running around wildly just moments ago.

The zig-zagging tendrils rained down on the hazy atmosphere, a few managing to zap Candle, sending wave after wave of jolts through her bloodstream. Still, the creature came out on the other side with little health and power sapped. She hovered around Ivy with the same happy expression on her face, bobbing up and down - it seemed she had enjoyed their sly little trick with the wild Electrike. Even I had trouble containing my chuckle - poor little thing, frightened and confused without even really knowing what had hit her.

Ivy heard a solid thunk, and tiny flashes of light revealed the little dog's form up against the wall. She must've run into it during her confusion. The woman felt a little bad—it went against her job as a Ranger to hurt the little creatures, even if she knew this wasn't really hurting them. A lot of wild Pokemon demanded that Trainers be tested.

She supposed that made sense. She wouldn't want to go home with some weirdo either. That also meant that some wild Pokemon sought Trainers out, since they wanted to be taken home. Ivy hoped that the Electrike was one of them. She was likely going to make some Trainer very happy.

Candle still had her usual energy. It was hard to ever bring her down, no matter what happened. She looked a little more worn down, since her flames danced a little slower and rose a little lower, but she was alright. She made up for that semi-tiredness with her eagerness.

Currently she was trying to bother Vergil again, and the Gallade was pointedly crossing his arms and looking straight at the floor, even as the Chandelure tried to get super close to him so she'd be in his line of sight. Ivy could feel Haji's amusement coming through their psychic bond, and she couldn't help but feel the same. It was fun to watch. Her Pokemon were an endless source of entertainment for her.

“Okay, Candle, we should be about ready to wrap this up. You did great!”

The Chandelure, upon hearing her, stuck her tongue out at Vergil one last time and bobbed over, happy to keep going. She made a fighting noise and moved her limbs in a karate-esque move, making sound effects as she did. Ivy was glad to see she was having fun.

“We need to clear up the Haze now, so start burning your Clear Smog technique,” she said.

The Chandelure nodded, and almost immediately she focused, the flames on her arms burning differently. There was a special chemical in this move that cleared up strange energy that caused ebbs and flows in Pokemon. She found it worked for reversing things like Smog and Haze too, which was handy when they wanted to restore the environment to how they found it, or the way a Trainer found it after they were done battling.

While Candle was preparing, Ivy continued. “Then, since the Electrike is still confused, I want you to try a long-distance Will-o-Wisp. She should be pretty easy to capture after that, and I'll throw a Park Ball right away so she doesn't feel too many negative side effects,” she added, aware that Vergil was listening now.

He usually did whenever she talked about capturing a Pokemon. It was one of his hangups ever since she had caught him. Going through the event they held at Easter with him had been challenging, since that required a Trainer to catch a Pokemon for score. They had managed, though, and this time she had other Pokemon with her if he made a fuss. He didn't say anything, thankfully, so she let her Fire-type start the plan while she dug out a standard Park Ball to throw.

Will-o-Wisp looked a lot like Confuse Ray sometimes, since they were both eerie energies with silvery shades. She was hoping that the Electric-type would stay dazed and not really notice it until too late, since the two moves were so similar. The wisps almost had a mind of their own, since they tended to trail after their target in a bobbing weave, sort of like a snake.

If it worked, that little bit of burn damage should put her in great range so she wouldn't fight the Park Ball so much. Ivy watched as Candle prepared to dispel the fog, and she tensed to throw.

Candle's enthusiasm never died down, even when the Gallade had pushed her away once more. She continued trying to get the Blade Pokemon to look at her, but he was one stubborn guy with good self-control - despite the Chandelure's persistent attempts, he only crossed his arms over his chest even tighter, giving the floor a steely glare.

Ivy praised her Fire-Ghost-type, pulling the creature's attention back to her and the match at hand. She let out another war-like noise, clearly still very pumped and energetic despite taking a couple of hits. It was nice to see the Pokemon having fun during a battle - not too dead-pan serious, but not insanely immature either. It was a trait I definitely needed to learn for myself - sometimes, I just took things a little too harshly, and that only ended up in me over-thinking things and getting myself all worked up about nothing.

The Luring Pokemon began to concentrate as she heard her trainer's command. Energy bubbled within her, chemicals reacting with each other, creating a different kind of blaze to kindle on her arms. Instead of the usual rather ominous violet hue the flames possessed, they were now burning with a lighter, close-to-white color. It was as though her bloodstream had been rid of any hazardous chemicals and particles, leaving it absolutely purified.

With a huff, the Chandelure released a strong, steady stream of white smoke - if you could even call if that, as it was the cleanest substance I had ever seen, and smoke just gave off the wrong impression. The clear mist quickly melded with the thick haze, slowly but surely overcoming their black opponent and filtering the atmosphere. Candle continued to release the special smog, allowing it to clean up the air until every last layer of dark smoke had been blown away.

"I want you to try a long-distance Will-o-Wisp. She should be pretty easy to capture after that," Ivy told her partner, narrating her plan so that the Fire-Ghost-type could comprehend what was expected of her to do as she brought out a Parkball, ready to throw it once the time was right.

As far as I knew, Luring Pokemon usually executed their Will-o-Wisp assault when they were in close range with their target, but my fellow ranger had carefully emphasized the word "long-distance" for her Chandelure to understand that she would not perform the move the normal way.

Candle had caught on anyway, and was now spinning her body around. Multiple blue fireballs then circled her, revolving around her as she rotated on her own "axis" of sorts, as though the embers were satellites meant to orbit her. As she continued to whirl around, the flames grew larger and larger, overflowing with Fire-type power. The light blue blazes were then launched at the Electrike, coated in a purple flare whose shade was extremely similar to that of the Fire-Ghost-type's kindling arms.

Upon coming into contact with the wild entity's green fur, the fireballs exploded in a shower of indigo-colored embers, a violent sea of combusting sparks engulfing the Lightning Pokemon. She yowled out in pain as they devoured her body with burning heat, leaving a trail of scorched fur in their wake. Her whole body cringed from the hot stinging, her expression contorted into one of hurt and dread.

To relieve the Electric-type from more suffering, the Elite Ranger quickly tossed the camo-colored orb to the opposite side of the battleground. A bright white beam burst out as the sphere snapped open, illuminating the corridor and almost blinding us - our eyes had already adjusted to the dimly-lit building, and they had reacted rather violently to the sudden flood of strong light.

I blinked, trying to get the spots out of my eyes. When my blue orbs had focused on the Electrike again, I only saw a small portion of her face left before she was completely sucked into the ball. It landed on the cement floor with a soft thud, hardly even trembling for long - she must've been really drained of energy that she barely had any strength left to fight while inside the sphere. It came to a full stop with an audible click that seemed to bounce off the walls, as if making sure that the trainer-slash-ranger could hear the satisfying sound.

After I picked the Parkball up, I placed it inside my bag - which, surprisingly, hadn't accumulated much dust yet - for safe-keeping. "Nice job!" I congratulated Ivy, a large grin on my face, happy that our first encounter of the day hadn't gone with too much trouble.

The Park Ball clicked shut without too much trouble at all, and the center of the device lit up in red, indicating a successful capture. Ivy smiled.

“Nice job!” Elisa said, and Ivy nodded.

“That wen't a lot smoother than I thought it would. Great job, Candle,” the woman said as the chandelier came close. She still moved with a bob, and there was a smile plastered on her face. She looked pretty pleased with herself too.

“Rest now,” Ivy said as she took out Candle's Park Ball again. She hit the button to enlarge the device and then pointed it toward the Fire-type. The Chandelure was glad to get some rest. She nodded as she was enveloped in red light, warping into the Pokeball for safe keeping. She figured that she didn't need three Pokemon walking around the plant, since that would probably look intimidating to any wild ones—not that Vergil didn't accomplish that all on his own. Besides, the ghost had earned a rest.

“Okay,” Ivy said as she turned to Elisa. “I think we're ready to move on if you are. I wonder what we'll see next.”

Ivy praised Candle once more for a job well done. The Chandelure acknowledged her with a bob, seemingly pleased with herself. She was then pulled back into her Pokeball housing with a zap of bright red light, where she would take a well-deserved rest.

"Okay, I think we're ready to move on if you are," the Elite Ranger told me, nodding in the direction of what lay ahead.

My eyes swept around the corridor, surveying the area once final time, making sure I hadn't forgotten or missed anything. And then, I caught sight of something white right next to the wall the Lightning Pokemon had collided with during the battle that had just took place. The object was partially hidden in the rubble, but it still somehow stood out, contrasting the darkness we were surrounded in. I wondered how I hadn't noticed that earlier as I quickly walked over to pick the item up.

Holding it out for my fellow ranger to see, I remarked, "Looks like the Electrike might've dropped this Apricorn earlier when she rammed into the wall in her earlier confusion."

We ventured onwards, trusting our eyes and the two Pokemon with us to be able to navigate the maze of dimly-lit hallways without incident. It was only a few moments later - with a bit of turning and stumbling about and feeling our way around in the dark - that we came across the next encounter. The creature zipped overhead, flapping its wings that seemed to have dark purple undersides, as far as my eyes could tell - it was more likely than not a lighter shade than that, though. The said wings were apprently being supported by elongated finger-like limbs, making their structure stronger as a whole; wings could be very flimsy, after all.

As the Poison-Flying-type flew down closer to us, one could clearly see that it possessed neither eyes nor a nose, finding its way around by means of echolocation. I knew of the unpleasant and deafening screeches it was capable of, what with the technique being used irritatingly often in battle. With high-pitched frequencies, it could easily disorient and confuse its foe using the shrill shrieks it could expel.
Altogether, it wasn't such a horrible find, I guess - not the rarest of entities, but its final evolved form, Crobat, was a pretty good Pokemon.

Turning to Ivy, I jerked my thumb up at the creature hovering a couple of inches north-east of my head as I asked, "Interested in a Zubat?"

@MuddyMudkip; For the sake of the RP I'm pretending like I have dolls, even though I don't, since a Ranger is supposed to be prepared XD I'll take out money next post if needed.

Elisa was looking at something on the ground near where the green dog had bumped into the wall. She bent down to pick something up. It was white. “Looks like the Electrike might've dropped this Apricorn earlier when she rammed into the wall in her earlier confusion.”

“Oh, awesome,” Ivy replied. “I've been trying to collect those. Making Apriballs will give us something to do in down time.”

They had had a specialist come in and show them how to craft the corns into capture devices when they had first stumbled upon the seeds in the Park. It had been a dying art before, but now with the Park offering ball-making services, she hoped it would catch fire again. The Park Balls they could make with Apricorns were a lot stranger than even their Hyper Balls.

They continued on, and suddenly a purple blur flew overhead, making Ivy duck quick. Vergil had thrown his hands up, and she knew what it was before she saw it, thanks to the Gallades angry noises.

She turned to face the Pokemon, recognizing the blue-dyed skin and purple tint of its wings. Fangs protruded from a small mouth, and its ears twitched in alertness, since it could only see using sound waves until it evolved.

    “Interested in Zubat?” Elisa asked.

Ivy shook her head as a bit of nostalgia washed over her. “Nah, I already have a Crobat. Haxbat is flying around the Park right now. Zubat was the first Pokemon I ever caught,” she said, thinking back on it.

She had been all alone after her brother disappeared until she had Haxbbat.

“If we can't get around it, we can use a Pokedoll,” she said, pulling the flap of her vest open just in case.

Vergil had thrown his arms up in the air at the sight of the bat - I wondered why? I caught myself before I stared at him confusedly, remembering what Ivy had said earlier - to ignore the Gallade.

"Nah, I already have a Crobat. Haxbat is flying around the Park right now," the Elite Ranger answered, shaking her head. "Zubat was the first Pokemon I ever caught."

Pulling her vest open, she showed the spare Pokedolls she had. Of course she was prepared - just in case the wild creature decided to stick around. I nodded, trying to get around the Poison-Flying-type. However, it had other ideas. It proceeded to annoy the Blade Pokemon even further, circling around his head. It was a wonder that it hadn't been smacked straight out of the air by Ivy's partner.

Upon tossing the plush toy in its direction, the Zubat grabbed the doll with its wings. It examined it for a moment, then seemed to be content with its new-found non-living friend - after all, it didn't seem like the Gallade was going to entertain it anyway.

We carried on without incident for a few minutes. There was an occasional door on either side of the hallway - most likely long-evacuated offices. What would they be doing in a building of this sort? Well, that's where the technical stuff could have been going on - accounting, surveillance rooms, conference halls, research centers, lunch rooms, and perhaps places where new machines and ideas could have been in development.

We came upon one door that was slightly ajar - perhaps left open from a previous expedition through this place. Before I could push it open any further, though, an explosion rocked the Plant, sending a tremble through my body. Intrigued, and quite compelled by duty, I led the way inside the said room, finding a group of upside-down Pokeballs hovered around in a circle. The orb in the middle, probably the leader of the gang, noticed us and moved forward. The rest of the entities floated aside to make room for it. It eyed us with its eyebrow arched, as though we had just interrupted on something very important and secretive.

"How about an Electrode?" I asked my fellow ranger.

@MuddyMudkip; For the last one: 12,400 – 500 = 11,900 No corn for me this time aww :(

Unfortunately, the Zubat didn't want to leave them alone. What was worse was that it had made up its mind to bother Vergil. Ivy grimaced as it flew over to the Gallade and started circling around him, above his head and slightly out of reach. That wouldn't stop the fighter, however. He had plenty of other techniques to knock the bat out of the air. Ivy didn't want to let that happen.

She reached into her vest and pulled out one of the smaller Pokedolls. This one, like most of them, was Clefairy-shaped. She tossed it underhand at the wild Pokemon, and the Poison-type caught it with its tiny feet, latching onto it tight. It rose and fell in the air a few times, as if it was trying to see if the doll would do anything. Then, seeming satisfied, it flew off.

Ivy met Vergil's eyes for an instant, but she couldn't read them. She honestly didn't know if he would've attacked the wild Pokemon or not. That had been one of her worries during the Easter Event, since he had had been positively livid during it. Thankfully they had pulled through without an issue, and now she had extra support.

Elisa walked on, and they followed. The dusty hallways seemed to stretch on and on, and their footsteps echoed into the empty rooms they passed. It was sad, seeing the place in such dissarray. They didn't know why it had been abandoned in the first place—it was sort of like the Enigma Ruins in that respect. Some of the doors were closed to rooms too, but Ivy knew that most of them were empty too, other than the scattered debris of a people long gone.

Eventually, the Ranger got curious and wandered into a room that seemed open. Ivy followed suit until an explosion rang out, causing the woman to grab onto the wall so she didn't fall down. They went further into the room to see a group of Pokeballs gathered together, only they were upside down—and they moved.

One of them rolled forward with a cheeky grin and raised eyebrows. Ivy recognized the Pokemon right away, and it set the hairs on her arms upright.

“How about an Electrode?” Elisa asked.

“No thanks,” Ivy replied, shaking her head. “They are pretty neat, but their known tendencies wouldn't be very good for my small aparment. We can use a doll if needed here too.”

Electrode and Volrob, their pre-evolution, tended to explode on occasion. Sometimes it was random, sometimes it came with a rush of emotion. Either way, she didn't like to see it, since the orb knocked itself out in the process, not to mention damaged other things. Some of the chips in the floors and old machines were probably from these mini explosions. She hoped they would be able to get away in time. She didn't want any damage to come to them or her Pokemon.

Ivy didn't want to battle this encounter as well. I couldn't blame her, though - Electrodes could get a bit nasty and out-of-hand when they felt like blowing themselves up. Sometimes, they just exploded at random, and that could prove to be very disastrous when left outside their Pokeball.

As we turned away - seeing as how there wasn't much of anything else in the room except for more Electrodes and Voltorbs - and attempted to leave without trouble. Unfortunately, the leader Electrode had decided to hover in front of us, blocking our way out.

The Elite Ranger brought out another pink doll. She put it on top of the creature warily - you never know when one might explode, and being in the presence of many was even more dangerous. The Electric-type seemed to like the Pokedoll, though - and in exchange, an Apricorn was dropped. I caught it reflexively.

"Well, here's another one to add to the collection!" I grinned - everyone was after Apriballs nowadays, and for good reason, too. They worked even better than the Hyperballs the Park Shop sold, so naturally Park-goers loved to have one of them at hand. After all, you never know what rare and valuable Pokemon you just might be lucky enough to find.

The wild entity moved away, seemingly already busy with his new toy. With that, I proceeded to take a step towards the doorway. Before any of us could make it back outside, however, another one of the upside-down Pokeballs came floating its way to us. It had a friendlier expression than the one earlier - who was showing off the plush toy to the rest of the group - and it seemed to gesture over to the remaining dolls Ivy had brought with her.

"I don't think you would've changed your mind in a matter of moments, so I'm guessing we try to run from this one, too?" I asked, already reaching for the doorknob. Would the Ball Pokemon allow us to escape, though?

    @MuddyMudkip; I'm going to go broke at this rate D: 11,900 – 500 = 11,400

The group tried to turn so they could leave, but the leader of the small pack of electrical balls rolled around them and blocked their way. Ivy didn't really like his expression. She was worried about him blowing up, and that might cause a chain reaction of them since there were a ton of the time bombs in the room. And they were caught between them.

Thinking better than to risk it, Ivy placed a doll from her inside pocket very carefully on top of the Electrode's head. She moved slowly but steadily so that she didn't jar him at all. Sometimes sudden motions triggered them too. Thankfully, he seemed to like it. His eyes curved up happily, and as he rolled away with the doll, he dropped an Apricorn. It was almost like a vending machine.

Elisa caught it. It was another white one. Ivy was going to have to look up what types she needed to start crafting. She wasn't sure what type the white ones went into. “Well, here's another one to add to the collection!” Elisa said.

The big Pokeball-like Pokemon rolled away to show off the Clefairy-shaped doll to his friends, so they headed for the door again. However, another Electrode rolled away from the group over to them. This one looked a little more friendly than the last one, but Ivy's hair was still standing on edge. It didn't matter how docile they looked; they could flip like a switch.

The funny thing was that it was looking toward her vest pockets, where she had withdrawn one of the dolls. Ivy rose her eyebrow at it.

“I don't think you would've changed your mind in a matter of moments, so I'm guessing we try to run from this one too?” the Ranger asked.

Ivy nodded. “You got it.” Then, she addressed the Electric-type. “I don't have too many of these,” she said, gesturing to her pocket. “I think it would be better for everyone to share, don't you think?”

    @WinterVines;

OOC: it's like paying for the apricorns (bad joke, sorry) Anyways, let's see something interesting happen... Well, actually, it's not really the best of 'mons, but its behavior/nature/abilities creates a decent-ish plot twist of sorts (compared to the marts that have been thrown your way) xD

    NBP#6

The Elite Ranger tried to coax this second Ball Pokemon to share with the other one's pink toy. Unfortunately, her pleas were to no avail. The Electric-type's steady gaze didn't soften one bit, dead set on getting a doll of its own. In fact, it wanted the plush toy so much, it even dropped an Apricorn to do some persuading of its own.

Sighing, Ivy pulled another Pokedoll out of her vest pocket as I picked up the black object. I could see she felt as though her escape items were being wasted - and in truth, they were only usually needed for emergencies (say, a really tough and stubborn wild creature who would rather fight than let us slip away), so I could completely understand her reluctance. However, it seemed a less dangerous option to hand over the doll rather than risk having the Electrode explode while we were in the vicinity.

Upon receiving the plush toy, the upside-down Pokeball's face broke into a large grin, evidently satisfied as it bobbed off to join the rest of its comrades. I let out a shaky sigh of relief, feeling my nerves relax again - good thing that's done and taken care of. We exited the room, making sure to close it tightly shut before we moved on.

The next encounter came with even more trouble - and by the time we'd come face-to-face with it, I thought it safe to say we kindof wished we hadn't. We were walking through another hallway that was much like the rest - nothing too significant about it. I was just about to check on another room, hoping we'd find something of interest there - when a thick spew of gas suddenly filled the air around us. There was something different about this compared to Candle's Haze and Clear Smog moves; it was neither a dark black or clear white color - instead it was a hazardous shade of purple. And that, I believed meant it was filled with toxic.

My eyes started to blur with tears as the chemicals stung them. I covered my face best I could, and I hoped Ivy had done the same. I couldn't really see much now - my vision streaked with salty liquid and purple spots. I didn't feel poisoned or overly-sick; no wave of nausea washed over me; and dizziness didn't occur either, soI figured the vapor wasn't as toxic as I had originally suspected - hazardous enough to cause sniffles and tears, but not poisoning.

The entity-to-blame came about a few moments later, still jetting out even more purple mist, rounding the corner as if without a care in the world. It was another round, limbless Pokemon - and another one known to be capable of self-explosion. I tried to blink the tears out of my eyes to get a clearer view of the creature, as it was only appearing as a hazy blur of purple mass to me. I managed to focus on it long enough to notice that it sported several crater-like protrusions all over its body, and some sort of crossbones mark could be seen on its blissful, nonchalant face.

"Would... you like a Koffing?" I managed to cough out my question, the effects of the gas still taking its toll on me. Do stop, I pleaded in my head as I gazed up at the Poison Gas Pokemon with a pained, imploring expression on my face, as if willing it to understand the message I was trying to convey.

    @MuddyMudkip; You're right! At least I got a few Apricorns. Let's make Koffing M. 12,400 – 500 = 11,900 for last doll.

    TP#9

The Electroke stubbornly shook its head and nudged its body forward, like he was insisting or begging. It even dropped a black-colored Apricorn as a bribe. Ivy sighed. She didn't want to make it upset since the others were so near. She pulled out another doll and handed it over. It was better than it exploding on them, and besides, she would rather appease wild Pokemon than hurt them in a battle, particularly because of her Ranger status. Some Pokemon were just more stubborn that others.

The Electrode's grin grew wider and it wheeled off back to the group, content to show off its new toy just like the other one. Hopefully that would keep the entire troupe happy for a while. It allowed them to escape, and Elisa shut the door to the room behind them so that they wouldn't be followed.

Their good fortune didn't last very long, however. The hallway they traveled suddenly became cloaked in a smog, and it wasn't like what Candle used earlier. Ivy coughed a little and put her arm up to cover her nose and mouth. She saw Vergil's look of disgust too, and Haji wasn't showing anything, but she could feel through their connection that it wasn't pleasant.

Ivy tried to take as shallow of breaths as she could, recognizing the purple-tinted air as a type of poison. There were a lot of Poison-types here in the Power Plant. It burned her nose even through her shirt cover, and her eyes were starting to water.

Soon the creature responsible floated into fiew. It was sphereical in shape, with miniature volcano-shaped bumps on its body. A peaceful smile was stretched across his purple body, marking his Poison-type. There was a skull and cross bones on the lower half as well, announcing hazard to everyone that understood it.

“Would... you like a Koffing?” Elisa managed to choke out. The smog was probably bothering her too.

The problem was that she did see a request for a Koffing. They were dangerous to battle, though. Just like the Electrode, they tended to explode. Instead of being fast, they radiated toxin gasses, which was just as bad as potentially getting paralyzed by electricity.

“Yeah, I think I saw someone looking for one of these back at the outpost request board. Now, as for how to do this...”

If she wanted to fight, the smart thing would be to clear up this smog. The problem was that Candle had just fought, and she was probably the only one that had a technique that could help with that. Besides, a lot of poisonous attacks were flammable, and she didn't want to set fire to the air and possibly provoke the Koffing to explode on them. If he didn't quit the smog himself, they were going to have to suffer through it. That meant making the battle quick.

Vergil was out, then. He liked to fight, and sometimes the longer, the better. Koffing had thicker skin that took physical hits really well too, which were the bulk of the Gallade's techniques. Floating above the ground even made him immune to a lot of standard Ground-type attacks too. That meant Haji would have to battle if they were going to capture this Pokemon.

“I will fight,” he responded to the comments in her mind. He was the best suited for this, since he had a lot of mental-based abilities.

“Alright,” Ivy said, before taking a second to cough to clear her lungs. “Haji, starting focusing on a Future Sight attack. If we're not able to clear up this fog, that should help you either launch an attack or try to stay out of the way of one. In the mean time, let's set up a Sunny Day. A little light and heat will either help thin the fog or make it more flammable.”

The purple cat nodded, and his eyes went ablaze in a wash of hazy blue. Haji's mental techniques were immense, especially those that shared his psychic typing. Future Sight could do a lot of things in that it helped the user see what was coming next, although sometimes that wasn't very far in advance. Most Pokemon used it to help locate a good time to attack with the mental vibes but others used them to dodge potentially harmful attacks. She was going to let Haji pick out what worked best for him. He preferred dodging and attacking from a distance over anything else.

She was also hoping that Sunny Day would clear up their little problem. The hallway wasn't too broad, so the fake sun's rays would hopefully thin out the smoke a little. The problem with it was that it was an orb of fire-based energy, which meant it was warm. She didn't want to make this small area flammable either. Haji's Hidden Power would probably be out, since it was Fire-typed. If she remembered correctly, wasn't Koffing also able to learn some fire attacks?

“Haji, he's a little close,” she said then, getting worried about the ominious ball of gas floating so near them. “If you've got time, shoot off a Swift attack to try and get him to back up. We need some space to work.”

Swift was a weaker energy attack that was patterned in stars. It was known for its accuracy. She was hoping that the Koffing would see the ninja stars coming toward him and try to get out of the way, effectivley moving him. She didn't really mind if it damaged him much at all. She would have an opportunity to hit hard later. She just needed to see what he was going to do first.

    @WinterVines;

    BP#1

"Yeah, I think I saw someone looking for one of these back at the outpost request board," Ivy replied. She seemed to weigh down her options for a few moments before finally settling on Haji, who nodded in agreement as she gave out her first command.

His eyes began to shimmer in a bright blue hue as he trailed the wild creature's every movement. He could sense the opponent perfectly now, feeling his presence as he hovered around the hallway, moving closer and closer to us as more hazardous gases filled the air. The Espeon's eyes were calculating but calm, alert and aware of every single detail...

While his eyes continued to glow, he set aside some of his energy to generate a fiery reddish-orang gas ball in front of his nuzzle. This orb continued to grow bigger and brighter, and seemed to be made out of waves of molten lava slushing against each other, heat radiating off its surface. Then, using his Psychic abilities, he lifted the kindling sphere up until it was just a few inches away from the ceiling. From there, the make-shift sun forced itself to stay air-born, shining rays of light and warmth streaming down on the battlefield. The strong sunshine seemed to burn holes into the purple layers, effectively thinning them; the atmosphere was starting to grow cleaner, the stinging sensation in my eyes slowly fading away.

The Elite Ranger seemed worried about how close the Poison Gas Pokemon was to us, and called out to her Psychic-type to try to use Swift to force him to back down. I thought this was a good idea - for one, it would most likely be harder for Haji to execute close-range combat techniques as a good number of his moves were Special attacks and the Espeon preferred assaulting from a distance, anyway; and for another, we would be at least be a decent couple of feet away if in case the Poison-type did decide to blow itself up and could make a run for it if debris would start to come crashing down. Hopefully, though, it wouldn't come to that.

The Eeveelution opened his mouth, and out burst a barrage of bright yellow stars, with brilliant sparkles surrounded them. Their shimmering qualities greatly contrasted the ominous purple haze as they swept past the smoke, forcing the Koffing to hover backwards, just as planned. The multiple stars continued to follow the target, who had no choice but to distance himself from us unless he wanted to get hit dead on. He was trying to evade the glowing energies for couple of moments until a lightbulb seemed to flicker on aove his head.

By now, though, Haji was ready. His earlier Future Sight had allowed him to visualize the opponent's retaliating move. The attack was in the form of large brown sludge, spurting out from the Poison Gas Pokemon's mouth. They blasted out at high speeds, meant to collide with the golden stars. They were quite evenly matched, one canceling out the other. The globs would explode upon contact with the yellow energies; while the stars, in turn, continued to pursue the floating ball of gas, slipping past a couple of blobs.

As the remaining golden stars slammed into the wild entity, the Espeon, meanwhile, was scampering from side to side, dodging the bombs with the help of his hazy blue eyes that could predict or see into the near future. Most of the evaded masses of brown ended up splattering onto the floor of the Plant, causing mini-explosions, trembles running down my spine as my legs seemed to shake with the ground from the impact. I had to jump away from a glob or two, as well - wouldn't want to get blown up now, would we?

With his eyes still outlined in that same blue hue, I could tell that the Psychic-type could sense another attack coming, his tail twitching ever so slightly. I glanced over at the Koffing, who did seem to be gathering up his energy for his next assault. His body was engulfed in a dark purple bubble that seemed to be as wobbly as jell-o, but still as ominous as any other attack. I wondered what it was, and if Ivy could see this attack's effects through her mindlink with Haji.

@MuddyMudkip; You set up a good scene for me to RP in!

    TP#10

An orb of red-orang energy formed in front of Haji, and Ivy could feel the heat radiating off it. It wasn't too hot, however, so she relaxed a little. It probably wasn't warm enough to cause the poison gas to catch fire. With a toss of his head, the orb sailed skyward, parting the clouds of toxins as it did. It hovered near the ceiling like a miniature sun, just like it did every other time she used it. Haji had a good handle on his most-used techniques.

The sun poked holes through the fog, and some of it did indeed thin out, much to her releif. The burning sensation caused by the chemicals started to lessen in effect, and Ivy managed to take her arm off of her face comfortably enough. She could still feel that tingle in her nose, but she was able to keep it plugged enough that the gas didn't bother her too much. Her voice would probably sound funny, though.

Then, the purple cat spit out those glowing stars, and Ivy watched as the Koffing backed up. He was a safe distance away, and that made her feel better. However, that didn't stop him from making a move. In order to combat the stars, he launched his own offensive.

Balls of Sludge erupted from him, raining down like mortars on a war field. Ivy had to jump to the side to avoid being splattered by the Sludge Bomb as piles of ooze coated the floor and sprinkled flecks up onto the walls. She watched as the bombs collided with Haij's swift too, causing more explosions that seemed to shake the walls. It really was like a battlefield.

A lot of the stars were deflected or dodged, but that was alright since it was meant to just move the Koffing around to begin with. Thankfully some hit, though, which would save them time in the long run for wearing the Poison-type down.

Haji wasn't defenseless however. His eyes blazed as he dodged himself, jumping from side to side, battling the way he preferred. Ivy's heart was beating fast with adrenaline as she watched, but she could feel the calm serenity coming from the Psychic-type. He wasn't worried at all, which was exactly like him. He rarely got worked up, always battling with a level head. It came in handy often, since sometimes she didn't keep her cool.

The psychic bond also helped her see into his condition, which did help keep her sane a lot, since Haji tended to put on a tough front even if he was hurt. He was fine, however. As they connected, she felt the force of the Future Sight, and it sent chills down her spine. The hair on the back of her neck stood up and her skin tingled too, and it was hard to keep her own sight and his straight.

It was like she was seeing double vision, only the second scene was foggy and partially see-through. Sometimes his abilities bled into her mind, if she was paying too close attention to him. Sometimes it was useful, sometimes it just got in the way. The first time, it had made her sick.

Suddenly, she saw something new that wasn't happening in real time. A wave of toxic material was washing over the field, or something like it. She couldn't get a good handle on it before the vision snapped off. Haji had cut off her end of it as his eyes stopped glowing. Sometimes he did that if he needed to concentrate, so she wasn't mad.

At any rate, he had predicted another attack before he stopped using the Sight, and they had to do something about that. As she looked, the Koffing was surrounded in a bubble thick with purple film that seemed to wobble back and forth as he floated. Ivy didn't want to give him a chance to use it.

“Haji,” she called, “if that was a Sludge Wave like I think it was, we need to stop it or control its flow before he uses it full force. This hallway isn't super wide, and it'll wash over the rest of us.”

The Espeon nodded while keeping his eyes on his foe. Vergil was even interested now, since she could feel him close behind, watching the battle. He really loved to battle; sometimes she thought that's the only thing he enjoyed. She hoped that he was slightly worried about his comrades too, though she knew that was a slim chance. She wanted him to care about something.

Ivy pictured in her mind what she had planned so that Haji would get a better idea of it. Then she told him, “Set up a couple Light Screens in the hall to try and block the attack as best as you can. It's not too wide here, so try to deflect it to the side as best you can. We'll move out of the way,” she said, as she got closer to one side of the hall.

In theory, she wanted the screens to act like a dam—the wall of light would hopefully deflect some of the attack to the side to take the brunt off Haji and prevent too much backwash onto them. That was, if Sludge Wave was the move Koffing was using at all. There was a very good possibility that he would change up moves or use it in a different way that she hadn't thought about. The thing about seeing the future is that you didn't know which one it was—many people theorized that there were infinite futures, and that peoples' actions determined which ones came true. Therefore, any one action could alter what came next.

She knew Haji wouldn't be able to prevent all damage, and for a long time she had struggled with that much more than he did. Since he had come from an abusive home, she wanted to save him from any other harm. Unfortunately that wasn't possible in battles, and at first, that had prevented her from asking him to battle until he questioned her. However, he was one of her most depended-on Pokemon, and as long as he wanted to fight, she didn't try to hold him back anymore.

“Next we need to start draining his energy. Use a Psychic to take a hold of him. While straining his mental senses, I'd like you to move him around. If possible, bouncing him off the walls should stun him a little. Maybe confuse him or stall his attack from happening too quick. His thick skin should protect him a little from the impacts. That's only if you get a good control on it too,” she added. “The first priority is wearing him down. You can probably use a decent power on it.”

The scene in her head played out a little like a cartoon, which was probably unrealistic. She imagined the Koffing spinning around and ricocheting off the walls like a ball in the pinball machines at the rec center she used to frequent when she was studying to be a Ranger. It was a Voltorb-themed one at the time. She had kept the high score on it for a couple months before she finished her Ranger training.

She also mentally cautioned Haji about doing too much damage, even though he knew already. She just didn't want to accidentally knock the Koffing out. Haji's Psychic-type attacks were very strong, and that was the one thing these levitating Poison-types were weak too. It wouldn't take much, and if he fainted, she couldn't catch him. That and she would feel bad.

Haji reassured her with a wave of calm emotion, and that made her feel better. Now she could only wait to see what came out of this.
