Zorayda made a very distressed sound when she saw how weak the Hoppip looked. "Okay little guy, sorry we had to hurt you! But we're gonna give you a new, comfy home. You'll love it! And we'll be best friends!" she said to it. I could almost see her eyes morph into the "^^" shapes people used online to indicate happiness. It was adorable and yet slightly creepy. Oh well, at least she was pure, and not a raging bitch unlike some other women I knew.

Viola backed up to stand next to her mistress as Zorayda threw a standard Park Ball. They were exactly the same as normal PokeBalls except that they had a camouflage pattern on the top as opposed to the basic matte red colour. Also, they were a bit more delicate - they broke upon failure captures where PokeBalls usually had a few shots in them - but this was justified to us Rangers because we usually worked on a razor-thin profit margin. This meant we had to buy cheap, and if the balls broke that just meant we were able to sell more. It was the same principle behind why we didn't simply give PokeDolls away - they weren't cheap to manufacture.

Lucky for Zorayda, this time she would not need to buy a second PokeDoll. The sphere clicked loudly to indicate that it was closed. I walked over and picked the device up before walking back to my Trainer.

"Congratulations on a well-fought battle!" I said to her. "Nice and quick, and you didn't put the Hoppip through any un-needed pain. Do you want a quick rest or are you good to go on? And where exactly in the Gardens do you want to go next, the Greenhouses? Picnic area? Flowerbeds?"

[Oh, I'm sorry. I'm super dumb and I forgot that I was supposed to be next to post. Derp. @ChainReaction01;]

The ball clicked, entrapping the little pink kitten within, and Zor practically skipped with joy. Her second capture, and it was an adorable Pokemon! She knew Hoppips evolved to be useful Pokemon later, and the tricky little thing was just the thing she needed. Viola did a quick, happy circle and plopped on her rear end, panting with happiness and pride. Zor reached down to scratch behind the fox's ears, grinning.

"You did an amazing job, Vi! You must be really tired, now... take a break for a bit, and if I need you, I'll call you out, all right?" the Trainer told Viola. The Ninetales nodded her head gratefully and allowed Zor to recall her. She disappeared in a beam of light to be transported into the ball's mechanism, enjoying the illusion of a perfect environment in a sort of hyper-sleep until Zor had need of her next. She clipped Viola's ball to her belt and swapped for another, expanding it and clicking the little white button. A second beam appeared, this time forming a dark fox with gleaming crimson eyes. Dusk shook his long ears and blinked up at Zor, silent and ready to work. The Trainer sighed, knowing she had to tone down her silly or giggly antics with Dusk and try to focus on acting calmer around him. He appreciated his Trainer as a person when they were not busy, battling, or working, but when they were he had a no-nonsense attitude. His work ethic was phenomenal, however, and the blonde truly appreciated the fox for his attitude at times.

"All right, Dusk, Vi needed a break, so you're out for a while, okay?" The Umbreon nodded slowly and eyed the Ranger, remembering that a different one had been in charge before. Dusk looked at Zor and tilted one ear back.

"Oh, Taither had to see to something, so Chainy here took over for us. Okay?" Dusk snorted but accepted this fact without further question.

"Congratulations on a well-fought battle!" Chainy piped up. Zor grinned, feeling pretty proud of herself for her first real run being so successful. "Nice and quick, and you didn't put the Hoppip through any un-needed pain. Do you want a quick rest or are you good to go on? And where exactly in the Gardens do you want to go next, the Greenhouses? Picnic area? Flowerbeds?"

"Hm, I think we're okay to go on. I think... well, I really like flowers, and there are likely to be cute Pokemon there, so let's head to the Flowerbeds next!" she decided. Her enthusiasm seemed neverending; even Dusk couldn't scoff at her for her behavior.

"Hm, I think we're okay to go on. I think... well, I really like flowers, and there are likely to be cute Pokemon there, so let's head to the Flowerbeds next!" Zorayda replied enthusiastically.

I felt momentarily sad that Zorayda didn't want to go to the picnic area. There were vending machines there and I had a hankering for some fizzy drink. Still, at least she hadn't chosen to go to the greenhouses. I enjoyed spending time in the greenhouses but they were very delicate and I felt like every time I went there something bad happened. This usually ranged from a couple of pot plants being knocked over to an entire greenhouse being flattened.

"Okay, let's get going then," I said. I checked that all of my straps were in place and then I led Zorayda away from the pool and further into the trees. I was pretty sure that we were in-between the entrance gate and the flowerbeds so logically if we kept going forwards we would arrive in at our intended destination.

I looked around at our surroundings, simply enjoying being with nature. The trees were large and healthy. Most of them were of the kind that only sprouted leaves near the top, but some looked shaggy because leaves grew the entire way up the trunk. Occasional vines crossed between trees, and on one of them I saw a small green Pokemon swinging like a monkey. It had a pink belly and stopped to stare at us one it had landed on a tree branch.

"Look up there," I said to Zorayda as I pointed at the Pokemon. "Do you feel like trying to catch a Treecko?"

They headed further into the Gardens, moving away from the marshy, wet areas of land near the babbling brooks and open-aired sunny plains, moving in on the slightly more shady and flowery fields. They were overgrown and wild; not quite what Zor had envisioned in her head, but they were beautiful anyway. Passion flowers and daisies of all colors peppered the landscape, speckled shading cooling them here and there in the form of trees. Dusk trekked silently through the leaves and grasses, his pawsteps careful and measured as he kept a lookout for anything out of place.

Soon enough, the Umbreon began growling, nose pointing upwards; Zor followed his gaze to see a green, lizard-like Pokemon come closer and use the trees as a means of travel. Chainy asked the Trainer if she wanted to catch it, but she shook her head.

"Hmm, he looks like he would be a very strong Pokemon, but I think we'll leave him be for now," she answered.

Zorayda's Umbreon pricked its ears back and started growling up at the Treecko. I was quite surprised by this - I had almost forgotten that the Dark-type was even outside of its ball, it had been so quiet. Unfortunately, this didn't scare the Treecko off. It did the exact opposite. The Grass-type started to climb lower down the trees towards us, clearly intent on checking us out.

"Come on, let's try and outrun it," I said to Zorayda, pushing her gently along the path. We moved as quickly as we could without tripping over anything - the forest floor was almost and green and leafy as the trees, so there could be rocks or roots hiding and waiting to grab at an unwary traveler's shoe.

We moved for a good three minutes, but the the Treecko finally overtook us. With a nimble leap the Wild Pokemon landed on the ground in front of us and chattered angrily, like it was saying Hey, you guys challenged ME, how dare you run off?

"Looks like we're not going to go anywhere just yet," I said glumly.

"Oh, good, looks like we got away..." Zor commented after running a ways from the nimble lizard. A moment later it landed with a soft thump, hissing at them angrily. Zor held her hands up instinctively while Dusk rushed to jump in front of his mistress, his baleful red eyes showing contempt for the wild Pokemon. "...Looks like I spoke too soon," Zor muttered, backing up slowly until she was side-by-side with Chainy.

"Please can we move on, little Pokemon?" the blonde asked, addressing the Treecko directly. "I know you would like to battle Dusk, there, but we really just want to get through this forest and explore a little more. So, please will you let us keep going?" The Umbreon didn't have too much faith in the wild 'mon, however; he never moved from his prepared stance, eyes still trained upon what he now saw as a target he needed to protect his mistress from.

"Err, James, if this Treecko doesn't let us leave, I can pay for a doll," Zorayda whispered to the Ranger.

Zorayda backed up from the Treecko towards me. I knew how irritating it could be when a Wild Pokemon wouldn't leave you alone, but I often thought of it from the Pokemon's point of view. Lots of Pokemon enjoyed traveling with Trainers, strengthening their powers and going on adventures. It kind of sucked when Trainer after Trainer refused to catch you simply because you were of a more common species. This wouldn't be as big of a problem if there weren't capture limits on Park Expeditions, and sometimes I considered lobbying to remove the capture limits altogether, but I knew that doing so meant that we would run the risk of allowing Trainers to accidentally depopulate the Park and cause irreparable damage to the Park's ecosystem.

"Please can we move on, little Pokemon?" my Trainer asked the little Grass-type. "I know you would like to battle Dusk, there, but we really just want to get through this forest and explore a little more. So, please will you let us keep going?"

The Treecko's eyes narrowed and it shook its head vigorously, crouching even lower like it was preparing to fight.

"Err, James, if this Treecko doesn't let us leave, I can pay for a doll," Zorayda murmured to me.

"That might be the way we have to go," I replied quietly. The blonde passed me a small wad of notes and I pulled a stuffed toy in the shape of a Miltank out of my backpack. Zorayda threw it towards the Treecko. What followed was interesting in that I've never seen it before. The Treecko eyed the doll with distaste. It sighed and loped over to the toy and grabbed it sulkily before disappearing into a clump of bushes.

"Well, that was interesting," I said to Zorayda. I was about to ask her what she thought about it when I heard the bushes the Treecko had gone into start rustling. I looked down to see small yellow-and-green monkey emerge. It had a funny haircut and moved low to the ground on its knuckles, like an ape. The Pokemon looked up at us and started making high-pitched chittering noises, almost like it was scolding us. I had to hide a smile behind my mouth - it was hard to imagine this little beast being able to go through on the threats it was no doubt making.

"I'm sorry, Treecko... I'd take you all home with me if I could..." Zor called to the pouting lizard as they ran from it. She felt horribly guilty for not allowing him to stay with her; maybe he just wanted to be someone's companion? She would never know now, unless she happened upon him again in the future. For now they let him be with his Miltank-shaped doll. The Trainer turned to James--or "Chainy"--and handed over her $500 so he could pocket it. Rangers had to make their living somehow... Dusk lagged behind them, still growling lowly at the Treecko for being so aggressive. In his eyes the Pokemon was an adversary, a menace to his Trainer. It disappeared into the bushes with its prize, and finally the Umbreon quieted once more into his normal silence.

Not a few seconds later, however, the dark fox was surprised by another figure leaping from the same brush--a small primate with green and tan coloring emerged with a hairdo that looked oddly like broccoli. It began to make loud noise, making Dusk's ears flatten back with annoyance. He didn't growl this time; probably because the small simian didn't look as if it would pose much of a threat. Zor had time to fumble around in her pack and fish out the Pokedex she'd gotten forever ago from some weird professor who handed them out to strong Trainers. Aiming it at the little monkey she pressed the button, allowing it to scan the wild Pokemon.

"Pansage. Normally a friendly Pokemon who shares its healing leaves with fellow Pokemon. It likes forested environments," the machine spat out robotically. Zor raised an eyebrow disbelievingly. It seemed that this particular Pansage didn't get the memo about being friendly...

"Well... he's really cute, and I might come back for one of these guys later, but..." Zor hesitated. She only had three more Park balls and eight more allowed encounters with Chainy as her guide in this run, and she was very curious about what else could be in the Gardens. She chewed her bottom lip indecisively. "I... I think I'll leave this one in the wild," she told her Ranger hedgingly.

Zorayda pulled out her Pokedex and scanned the angry little Grass-type. "Pansage. Normally a friendly Pokemon who shares its healing leaves with fellow Pokemon. It likes forested environments," the machine said in a robotic monotone. Apparently this Pokemon was an exception - it didn't look particularly friendly. Then again, that might have been because Zorayda had just upset its friend.

"Well... he's really cute, and I might come back for one of these guys later, but... I think I'll leave this one in the wild," my Trainer said slowly.

"Don't blame you, he doesn't exactly look like the easiest Pokemon to get along with," I laughed. I then bent down so I could talk to the Grass-type on its own level.

"What do you say, little buddy? Wanna let us past?" I asked it.

The Pansage did nothing for a couple seconds. It then darted forwards, attempting to bite my nose. I scrambled backwards, but thankfully the monkey didn't commit. It backed up to the bush, now growling whole-heartedly.

"I think you should probably give this one a PokeDoll too," I said to Zorayda. "Or battle it into submission. Either way, leaving an angry Pokemon behind us is how horror stories are started, but it's your call - we can try to move on anyway if you'd like."

    [OK SO. I'm ending this run because wow I'm a dork and I never post. Also, I want my silly Deerling. So yeah, ending early and claiming what I got so far :p Thanks, Chainy!] @ChainReaction01;

"You know what? I think I'm gonna throw a doll at this guy and go home," Zor told the Ranger, suddenly feeling extremely tired. "I don't feel very well all of the sudden... I think I should call it a day." At her side, Dusk made a rare noise--a low whine, as if concerned for his trainer. She smiled down at him and shook her head slowly. "I'm just... wow. I didn't realize how much of a toll this place would take on me. So, um, James, is it? Would you please show me out? I just... need to lie down for a while," she told him, swaying a bit. "Oof. Yeah..."

We were just about to try moving on when Zorayda suddenly swayed to the side. She reached out and balanced herself against a tree as her Pokemon looked onwards, concerned.

"You know what? I think I'm gonna throw a doll at this guy and go home," she said. "I don't feel very well all of the sudden... I think I should call it a day."

"Are you alright?" I asked. This was incredibly sudden, and I didn't want a Trainer getting heatstroke or fainting or something. Not only did I fear for the Trainer, but Ivy would have my arse. And not in the super-fun way.

"I'm just... wow. I didn't realize how much of a toll this place would take on me. Would you please show me out? I just... need to lie down for a while," Zorayda asked, sounding really weak.

"That's okay, we'll show you out. Is there anyone we can call for you?" I asked. I held onto the Trainer with one arm and pulled out a PokeBall with the other. A white flash revealed my Gallade, and he asked me in mindspeech what was going on. It was rare for Dual to be in a ball, but occasionally he did choose to recuperate in one after a particularly intense training session. I told him that Zorayda was feeling off and we needed an emergency teleport back to headquarters. He clasped his hands together and we all disappeared in a flash of white light.
