    Gardevoir VS Lopunny: BP-8

    Ranger John Shay

"Sela, cover yourself with Light Screen and Protect!" Siless commanded. It was a very safe move. As powerful as Lopunny's Hyper Beam would be with his Special Attack boosts, it was not going to get past Sela's Light Screen on its own. On the off chance that Sela's Protect messed up due to Klutz, Light Screen would at least reduce the Hyper Beam's strength considerably.

Sela put up two hemispheres of energy around herself. First, an orange wall of energy - that was Light Screen. That was enveloped by a slightly larger teal-coloured dome of energy - Protect.

Siless took out a Super Ball. It seemed he intended to capture Lopunny now. Clearly, the Light Screen and Protect were only precautionary.

Siless tossed his Super Ball. It went straight towards Lopunny. The Pokemon noticed this, and tried to fire an undercharged Hyper Beam at the small capsule as a desperation move. However, it missed wildly and was absorbed by Sela's Protect harmlessly.

The Super Ball opened up and sucked in Lopunny. The Super Ball began wobbling wildly. I held my breath, counting the wobbles. Could the Super Ball resist the Lopunny for a few more moments?

No. Lopunny forced his way out of the Super Ball, and jumped out with renewed focus. I could see the capsule at the Pokemon's feet, still intact. However, it would be very difficult to reclaim in this battle. Possible, but difficult.

Lopunny jumped into the air, his powerful feet launcher her into the air. This was the Bounce move.

In this scenario, it was probably the most intelligent choice Lopunny could've made in terms of attacking. Despite his Special Attack stat being beefed up by the supercharged Charge Beam, Light Screen discouraged the usage of Special moves. That meant Lopunny would be using a Physical attack. However, due to his Paralysis, Physical attacks would be very difficult to pull off. Physical attacks had to be executed at a close range to the target. Paralysis handicapped Lopunny's Speed, making it much more difficult to get within striking distance of Sela before being picked off. Bounce allowed Lopunny to overcome that problem - it would not require running, but only one big jump.

Granted, it was still very risky. Being a Klutz, an aerial move such as Bounce had the potential to mess up big time. Not only that, but if Lopunny were to become fully paralyzed while in the air, it could be very bad. Despite that, Bounce was probably the best move to use here.

Lopunny reached the apex of his jump, and began his descent. His feet were stretched out, ready to land on Sela. I waited to see what would happen.

Hyper Beam shot off and bounced off Protect harmlessly. The ball sucked Lopunny in, but it couldn't hold, and now Lopunny was in the air. I couldn't say I expected Bounce from the Lopunny, but I had an idea to take advantage of Bounce and the ball that was already out.

"Sela, Teleport up to Lopunny's height and use your Psychic to slam it down into the ball for another capture attempt!" Any hit from that height would have the same force as being thrown, triggering the capture attempt as it would had I thrown the ball. Combine that with the fact that Sela had excellent 'flight control' (as I would refer to it) due to her Psychic powers allowing her to ignore gravity, and we had an excellent way to attack during a normally 'semi-invulnerable' move that relied on height to disrupt it and get both damage and an attempt at capturing done. If it worked, it would do massive damage and, considering that we had to hit multiple times to get to the point Lopunny was at health-wise (especially since one time was another Psychic attack), I was comfortable with allowing the chance for a hard blow, as it seemed safe that it wouldn't knock Lopunny out.

OOC: Short post is short. I figured I'd just get this over with before I get to sleep. xD

"Sela, Teleport up to Lopunny's height and use your Psychic to slam it down into the ball for another capture attempt!" Siless yelled.

This was... odd. I could only watch Siless' unusual tactic as Sela Teleported above Lopunny as her Trainer had commanded.

With her Psychic powers, Sela was able to levitate in the air for a period of time - I knew this from battling another Gardevoir before I had become a Ranger. Sela took advantage of the same ability, and used the same Psychic powers she was using to levitate to attack Lopunny, forcing the surprised Pokemon to plummet through the air.

"Lopunny!" he cried. Then, he was sucked into the Super Ball again.

The capsule rolled around, shaking violently. The shakes were definitely weaker than they had been earlier - Sela's Psychic must have done some damage. This time, the Super Ball dinged with the ring of success.

"Congratulations," I said. My Dragonite immediately rushed into the sky, and collected Sela on her back. Meanwhile, I went and picked up Lopunny's Super Ball, and threw it in my backpack along with the Petilil's backpack. Siless had now captured two Pokemon, and I reckoned our trip was only about half over, if that.

"Well, let's continue, " I said to Siless, failing to suppress a smile.

John seemed impressed at the maneuver Sela pulled off. It wasn't often you found a Pokémon attacking in the middle of a Bounce or similar moves if it wasn't with a move that was especially capable of hitting it (such as Thunder in this case), but if all it did was put them out of range normally, then getting back in range would fix that problem up, just like it did here. Lopunny was captured, Sela was back down to earth, and she was in better condition than she started the battle in thanks to her Wish.

"Ready whenever you are." I figured another nice walk would help Sela relax before the next battle in case she was needed for it, though she could probably go straight into another battle, if necessary.

OOC: Real short post this time, sorry. Really really tired. q_q

"Ready whenever you are," Siless said. I nodded, and the four of us continued our trek through the Botanic Gardens.

It was a silent hike. Neither Siless nor I nor our Pokemon felt inclined to make conversation. It wasn't an awkward silence - it was more of a tranquil peace. The tall grass wasn't as friendly to the eyes as the flower gardens had been. However, it was very soothing and relaxing. A calm breeze lightly blew in our faces, and the occasional Flying Pokemon could be heard chirping above us.

My Dragonite stumbled on something. I turned immediately when I heard my beloved Pokemon's astonished cry.

"Dragonite, are you okay?" I asked.

My Dragonite nodded, looking down to see what she had stepped on.

"Seedot!" The small Pokemon appeared from beneath the tall grass - it must have been sleeping. There was an annoyed look on its face.

"Siless, do you want to battle this Seedot?" I inquired my Trainer.

Seedot would round out the Pokémon I was taking out of the park quite nicely; although Seedot itself was weak, it had a lot of potential. Indeed, Shiftry had been the opponent that had given me the most trouble, considering the circumstances I fought it in (it was in the park, very close to where I was, but it was a long time ago. I assumed it was captured by this point, as I hadn't heard any problems coming from it harassing Pokémon or Trainers). Shiftry as a species was almost the exact opposite of Teddson, my Ludicolo (other than the fact that that they were both Grass-types), so it would be able to add variety to my team as well.

I would have Sela lead this fight for us; she was able to better track the condition that Seedot would be in, and with Seedot's power compared to even Nuzleaf, I would have to watch out to make sure to not knock it out quickly. Seedot's family had Dark-type tendencies, but thankfully they weren't fully developed in Seedot itself, so Sela wasn't at too much of a risk herself (unless, of course, Seedot exploded… and that would just suck in general for everyone. Even if it wasn't strong enough to make it a huge risk, that would be one Pokémon I was aiming for that I didn't capture, and a while of healing, possibly having to deal with wounds me or John were inflicted with).

I motioned for Sela to enter the battle, to which she happily obliged. Though I typically went to her for acceptance of any potential new party members (she has been the one on the team the longest, helping me out from the start; I figured her opinion was as good as mine) though she was generally accepting of anyone that didn't try to bite my head off. I waited for Seedot to make the first move; at least then I would be able to see what it was capable of.

    BP-1: Gardevoir VS Seedot

    Ranger John Shay

Siless motioned for Sela to enter the battle.

"Seedot, see seedot!" Siless' opponent cried, eager to battle. The small Acorn Pokemon had a determined look on its face - despite being clearly weaker than Sela, it was obvious he was a strong-willed foe that was going to give it its all.

Seedot wasted no time in getting the battle started. It charged at Sela, dashing surprisingly fast. It left a blur behind it as it made quick progress towards Sela and tackled her, landing a direct hit on Sela's chest.

"Seedot!" the Pokemon crowed. I was somewhat surprised to see that the Seedot knew Quick Attack, a move only a few lucky Seedot were capable of using. Siless had picked a good Pokemon to battle.

Seedot continued its onslaught. Its eyes flashed momentarily, and a glowing yellow ball of energy appeared on the stem growing from the Pokemon's head - this was Seed Bomb. I frowned. Seedot did not learn Seed Bomb. How could it use this move?

Then, I realized what the flash in its eyes had been. Seedot had not directly used Seed Bomb. Instead, it had used Nature Power - a move that allowed the Pokemon to use a different move based on the environment around it. In a tall grass environment, the user would be able to use Seed Bomb.

I looked at Siless. Quick Attack would not have done a lot of damage, but a close-range Seed Bomb, even from a Seedot, was something to be cautious of to some extent. How would he respond?

Seed Bomb was a powerful move (and one I immediately recognized, along with Nature Power, from standard use by my Ludicolo), but I doubted Seedot could make it into anything too threatening at this point in its life. Still, it would hurt, and it was probably best to avoid the damage if we were able.

"Sela, Teleport away and use Psychic to force the Seed Bomb energies gathering on Seedot onto the ground!" The order may have sounded strange, but with Sela's telepathic capabilities I was able to show her exactly what I meant instantly; Psychic would simply flip Seedot and force its stem, where the Seed Bomb charged, into the ground. Psychic itself would deal minor damage at most, but it was proving to be an excellent utility move simply because it could hold the opponent (and we hadn't even gone into the waves of Psychic energy it could create to damage instead). The real damage here would be Seedot's own Seed Bomb, but with its own power and natural defense to Grass-type attacks, I didn't think it would do much damage. We would have to follow it up before I could capture.

"Once Seed Bomb goes off, hit Seedot with Confusion!" It was a lighter psychic hold than Psychic itself was, and it didn't assault mental defenses like its more powerful variant; instead, it assaulted the Pokémon's perception, possibly leading it into confusion. I had to give myself time to evaluate the situation to know when to attempt a capture, and even a dizziness from Confusion would give me plenty of time to determine whether to go for a capture or to get one more hit in before trying.

"Sela, Teleport away and use Psychic to force the Seed Bomb energies gathering on Seedot onto the ground!" Siless seemed to think for a moment before adding, "Once Seed Bomb goes off, hit Seedot with Confusion!"

Sela Teleported away from her opponent once again - this maneuver had been very successful for Sela thus far and worked once again to no surprise. She reappeared a few feet behind Seedot and immediately started glowing blue as Psychic began to commence. The same psychic energy surrounding Sela gripped Seedot, and flipped the Pokemon upside down. The stem was embedded in the ground with the Seed Bomb still charging and, unable to move, Seedot could only watch as the Seed Bomb exploded on its own user.

"Seedot!" the Pokemon cried in pain.

Sela wasted no time in continuing her assault. The blue aura of energy around her and her target was shifted to a more magenta-red shade of energy, and Seedot started squealing in pain as Confusion began to settle into the Pokemon's mind. I couldn't imagine what it was going through, but from what I knew, it was extremely disorienting.

When Sela released the Confusion, Seedot slumped down on to the ground. Its eyes had a blank look, and its head was lolling around. The Pokemon had been confused.

"Seedot..." the Pokemon struggled its way back on to its feet, stumbling around as it did so. Shaking its head and trying to focus, Seedot fired yellow orbs of energy at Sela in bursts. The orbs looked very similar to Seed Bomb, but were much smaller and three to five of them were fired at a time in a shotgun-style spread.

The first four Bullet Seeds slammed into Sela, but she quickly recovered. Five more were heading her way. I wondered what Siless would do about it.

    OOC: Male Seedot

Seedot seemed confused, but it kept its focus long enough to launch not one, but two Bullet Seed attacks; the first hit thrice almost instantly, while the second with five seeds was en route. Bullet Seed was horrendously weak compared to the prior Seed Bomb, however, and I could attempt a defense from a pure offensive attack that didn't require too much manipulation like our last maneuver did.

"Sela, shoot through the seeds with Hidden Power!" We had already seen this technique before, with Cosmos shooting stars through a weaker Energy Ball and Sela enhancing the charge of the opponent's Charge Beam; if this worked, it would be the third time this park run that my team shot a move through an enemy's offense to turn the battle. Bullet Seed wasn't strong, as its entire power came from the fact it dealt multiple hits.

Sela's inner fire rose up and burst towards the Seedot and its airborne seeds, and I followed up with a Park Ball. Seedot probably had no clue what was going to hit him with me following up immediately like this, but even if Hidden Power missed, it was wounded enough that a capture was possible. If it failed, I had many choices to follow up with, but it could very well end right here.

    BP-3: Gardevoir VS Seedot

    Ranger John Shay

"Sela, shoot through the seeds with Hidden Power!" Siless commanded.

Sela nodded, and immediately a fiery crimson burst of energy was launched from Sela's body in all directions. Judging from its intense colour, it was Fire-type. It was a handy Hidden Power to have, especially in the Botanic Gardens.

The Fire-type Hidden Power easily enveloped and destroyed the five Bullet Seeds. I was not surprised. If the natural type effectiveness advantage had not been enough to overpower it, then Sela's strength compared to Seedot's would have been. Hidden Power continued to rush towards Seedot, and the small Acorn Pokemon could only stand and watch as he was struck by the super-effective move.

    "Seedot!" he cried, falling over.

Siless took out a Park Ball. It seemed he was going for a quick capture - a perfectly logical decision in this case. He threw the Park Ball at Seedot, and I waited to see how it would pan out.

It shook once. Twice. And then...

Ding. The Park Ball stopped shaking.

Just like that, Siless had himself a Seedot.

"Well done," I said, tossing the Park Ball into my backpack.

Siless now had three Pokemon captured: Seedot, Lopunny, and Petilil. I wondered if these three would end up being the three he would take out of the Park when it was all said and done. With a nice amount of encounters remaining before Siless would have to be ushered out of the Park, there was a good chance he would see at least one, if not more, Pokemon that would pique his interest.

"Want to continue?" I asked Siless.

    "Do you want to continue?"

I had reached my three Pokémon limit, and each was something I wanted. I was satisfied, and even if I wanted other things I would just come back later; I didn't want to catch something just to have it be released a few moments later. In my eyes, that was a bit cruel; sure, there was far worse you could do, but getting a Pokémon's hopes up like that for training or even just giving it the idea that it would be trained and yanking it away like that seemed… horrible.

"I'll stick with these three and go. Have to spend some time with the new guys and get them all ready and such. Thanks for taking us through."

"I'll stick with these three and go. Have to spend some time with the new guys and get them all ready and such. Thanks for taking us through," Siless said.

I nodded, understanding his decision. I shook his hand.

"It's been fun. Hopefully, I'll be able to take you through again some time."

Digging in my pocket, I pulled out a form and a pen. I quickly filled it in, and folded it. Then, I took out the three Pokeballs containing Siless' new Pokemon - Petilil, Lopunny and Seedot.

Handing Siless the form and the Pokeballs, I said, "Here are your three Pokemon. You are going to need this form as well. Give it to the receptionist back at the Registration Office, and your Pokemon will be transferred into normal Pokeballs which you can take home. Once again, goodbye and I hope we can meet each other again."
