(OOC: I realized today that your run is so old that it still has the old ranking without Borderline, and since I didn't mark down what some of them were, I have to really think hard XD)

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

They traveled under the waterfall to the other side of the pool, hugging the wall so none of the group got wet. Haxbat soared ahead of her, doing acrobatics in the air. It had been a while since he stretched his wings, so he was enjoying all of the space. He slid into the thin line of trees along the area, weaving in and out of the trunks. The Ranger wasn't sure how wide this platform was, but there was probably a good chunk of forest there. She wondered if Kai wanted to explore any of it.

They reached the sealed device and Ivy reached down to pick it up, putting it into the pocket she had added the Spearow and Honchkrow to. Once it was safely zippered, she turned back to Kai.

“I can recall Starmie right?” the Trainer asked as she looked at her starfish still bobbing in the pool. She opted doing that over making it hover along with them. It was probably pretty tired after that intense battle.

Ivy nodded at her. “Of course. Starmie fought hard and deserves a good rest. I can tell you two have a really good bond by how much it wanted to please you.”

“And I think I'd like to stick around for a bit,” Kai added then. Ivy was just fine with that. She liked spending time in the nature as much as anything, and she enjoyed taking Trainers around that weren't in a hurry to find what they wanted and leave. Besides, she didn't come to the Heavens very often. What if she never got to come here again?

A rustling in the trees caught her attention next. She turned to them just as her purple Crobat came darting out of them, kicking up the loose leaves and other foliage in a sudden whoosh. A squawking came next, followed by a disheveled tan-ish bird with colorful head feathers. It came diving out of the trees and landed on the ground in front of the group as Haxbat glided behind her to hover.

“What did you do?” Ivy asked him with a smile, knowing that sometimes these wild Pokemon got territorial. Haxbat chittered at her, as if telling her he didn't do it, and she laughed. “Well, Kai, this Pidgeotto seems interested in something. What about you?”

Bahahaha, I broke the Park. They can all be Common, can't they? Kidding, kidding... Oh, and when I say "charge to my tab", I do mean subtract from my stats if/when the escape roll fails. XD

Kai nodded and recalled Starmie into its Pokeball with a flash of red light. "Thanks, buddy," she whispered to the red and white sphere, her ears turning pink as she realized how silly she might sound. Oh well. Meanwhile, Ivy had placed Aerodactyl's ball into her carrying bag, and the Ranger and her Crobat had begun showing signs of movement onto other pursuits.

It wasn't long before a Pidgeotto flew out of the trees, a belligerent Crobat not far before it, and Kai watched as it alighted in front of them, chattering and clacking its beak. Kai looked at it carefully, knowing what Ivy would probably ask. Sure enough, the Ranger jokingly berated Crobat and then asked, "Well, Kai, this Pidgeotto seems interested in something. What about you?"

Kai tilted her head, studying the Pidgeotto. It cawed at her in return and rustled its feathers. It looked a little aggressive, and Kai hadn't wanted to catch any of the Pidgey line, as amusing as it would be--

    <All are--->

"Nice try. But no." Smiling slightly, Kai looked up at Ivy and shook her head slightly. "I think we'll leave this guy alone, if you don't mind." She hitched her bag higher on her shoulder in preparation to leave, and then remembered to turn towards Ivy and add, "Uh, I ran out of Pokedolls a long time ago, I think. If it doesn't let us leave, do you think I could charge another one to my tab so we could avoid it? It looks a little territorial, and I don't want to encroach."

(OOC: Really really sorry about how long it took. There was a bunch of holiday stuff and then my grandma was taken to the hospital in the ambulance and other stuff that just made me not want to do anything. If you'd like a different Ranger, I'd understand.)

    NBP#13

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Pidgeotto made scuffing sounds against the ground as it scratched with its feet. It didn't look too happy, though the Ranger didn't have any idea why. Sometimes they were just like that. Maybe it had seen a lot of visitors lately or something.

“I think we'll leave this guy alone, if you don't mind,” Kai said. The Trainer had passed up a Pidgey earlier too, so Ivy wasn't really surprised. Then she added, “Uh, I ran out of Pokedolls a long time ago, I think. If it doesn't let us leave, do you think I could charge another one to my tab so we could avoid it?”

Ivy nodded as she turned to go back down the other side of the lake. As part of her requirements as a Ranger, she had plenty of dolls in her pockets. Vests were handy that way.

They started to continue on, but a low, caw from the bird made them pause in warning. The Pidgeotto had hopped after them a few feet, with its eyes narrowed dangerously and its muscles tense. Ivy got closer and reached into her pocket as she shook her head. “There's no need for that,” she said, pulling out one of the small, pink Clefairy dolls. “Here you go.”

She pulled the small string to make it inflate to roughly half the bird's size and then tossed it over. It made a small plop in the dirt in front of the flier, and after looking at it for a few seconds, the bird seemed satisfied. It picked up the fluffy toy with its strong beak and took flight off into the trees again, disappearing in the branches. Hopefully they couldn't see any more trouble from it.

Ivy walked back to where her Crobat was waiting and kept going as she motioned the rest forward. If they kept on the path from here, they would end up back at the entrance while it was still daylight out. Kai had caught some good Pokemon so far, and with any luck, something would pop up as they neared the exit.

From up here, they could see many of the other foliage-filled platforms since they had gone up so many stairs. The lake thinned out to a river as it trailed away from the falls, and the water could be seen flowing down the center of the place. It branched out into several other small pools and streams, providing nutrients for the plants that were installed up here. It was certainly an interesting place.

They made it down the first set of roughly cut stairs into a semi-wooded area. The previous platform overhung the space like a cliff, so it made the place a little dark when it was lined by trees on two sides as well. A flapping noise caught her attention before they could leave it though, and with a whoosh of air, the Ranger's attention was drawn upward.

A Pokemon came sailing over the ledge they had just left, swooping down close over their heads. Haxbat screeched in warning to the creature, but the bird paid no mind. Instead, it perched on top of one of the tall trees, allowing Ivy to get a better look at it.

It looked like Pidgey, with cream under-feathers and a tanned top, but it had a red-painted tail and red and yellow feathers streaming from the top of its head. It was probably a little shorter than she was, which made the bird pretty huge. If she remembered correctly, these birds were used to transport Trainers a lot of the time.

“There's a Pidgeot,” she told Kai. “I know you're probably not interested since you passed up the other two in its line, but do you want to take a picture? Some people in the office like to put up rewards for pictures of rare Pokemon.”

Oh, no, it's perfectly fine. Firstly, I'm not exactly the paladin of timely posting, and secondly, real life is >>>>(infinitely)>>>> teh pogeymanz. Especially Rangering teh pogeymanz 4 teh kai. Nothing in that sentence was grammatically/linguistically correct. XD But really, I wouldn't be in any position to request a new ranger even if I wanted to.

Hoping you feel better, though. That sounds sorta rough.

    EDIT: 35,500 - 500 = 35,000
    @WinterVines

Thankfully, Ivy had managed to shoo away the Pidgeot with a cleverly placed Pokedoll before it could do anything bad and, like, peck their eyes out. It looked aggressive enough, and Kai didn't doubt that it might've done that if they had provoked it enough. Well, let Flygons be Flygons. Or something.

They walked on a bit further, and entered the open clearing, struggling down massive stairs hewn out of boulders that nested among the high-growing trees. The river was still there, although gentler, and only a tiny gurgle reminded Kai that they still walked near the stream. It was really a beautiful place. Hopefully nothing would ever happen to it, really.

Kai, so overtaken in the natural beauty of the place, almost didn't notice as a large, brown bird landed in front of them majestically and preened itself while Ivy was talking. Kai blinked owlishly and looked up, vaguely recognizing a Pidgeot from its evolutions. "I... uh..." she trailed off, half expecting Fred to make a snarky comment. No cigar. Remembering where she was, she hurriedly fished through her bag lest the Pidgeot prove to be as aggressive as its younger sibling and attack her quickly. "I can see why people would pay money for pictures of these guys," she said conversationally as she fumbled with the lens cap and aimed the camera at the Pidgeot. "They're kinda pretty and stuff..."

The camera sort of exploded in her face in a puff of smoke, which Kai assumed was its way of taking a picture. Hopefully. Still, it didn't stop her from hastily retreating, coughing violently at the acrid smoke, eyes watering. She cringed, aware of how many times she had looked utterly incompetent thus far. And, of course, the smoke.

<You should call him Vivi,> Fred quipped in her mind.

Kai sighed as the smoke cleared. "Oh, come on," she retorted. "No one is possibly going to get that..."

(OOC: I am infinitely shamed at how long this took me ._. Sorry again. I'll try to be more timely now that I know what's up with school. Sort of. Also, I know only one Vivi, and that's from FF9.)

    NBP#14

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Kai got her camera out and ready as she lined up the shot. Pidgeot were pretty impressive with their size. Then again, most people tended to fly around on them, so it would make sense that they would be about as tall as an average-sized person. Ivy didn't have any bird Pokemon, but luckily Haxbat could carry more than his own weight on those tiny feet he had.

The camera made a poof as a balloon of smoke exploded around the device as she clicked the button. The girl coughed and made waving motions with her hand to clear her face, and Ivy took a step back so she didn't get caught up in the dust. She didn't really have allergies, but she remembered all the storage sheds she had to clean, and she didn't appreciate a ton of dust any more than the next person.

The bird, either fed up with them or perhaps needed to get somewhere, arched its head and cried out, opening its massive wings. Then, with a bit of a lunge, it lifted off the tree and flew back the way they had come. Maybe it was going to go see that Pidgeotto they had run into earlier. It's head feathers trailed after it as it disappeared over the ledge and out of sight.

“Well, let's see what else this place has to offer,” Ivy said as she took a step forward.

Haxbat hovered close behind her as she started down the path. She had never been on this side before, with the trees lining the road on either side. There was definitely much more foliage on this part of the sky island. It probably had something to do with all the run off water flowing into streams and pools. She hadn't noticed anything like that as they were heading up the other side.

It was a little dark, but the trees didn't hang over the path, so the sunlight still filtered through. The trees were pretty thin too, with small trunks she could probably cup both hands around. It was probably the only kind that would grow up here. She wasn't sure how much soil had to be deposited. It would be a shame for all the work to go to waste.

Eventually the trees stopped, and they returned to a short, grassy plain. One of the small streams crossed their path in front, but a stone bridge had been carved out of the platform or whatever substance was brought up here. It arched over the water with a few feet to spare between the path and the wet.

Before they could cross, an eerie coo caught Ivy's attention. She looked carefully but didn't see anything unusual until Haxbat chittered at something lurking under the bridge. Then she saw a whispy white cloud.

As they looked, the rest of the Pokemon became visible. A shiny, purple orb peeked out next, and that let her catch sight of black dots where eyes should be and a yellow x across its nose. It sort of looked like a banaid. Two stringy arms with heart tags on the ends of them touched the bridge to pull the creature up.

“Loooooon,” it said softly. Ivy could admit it; it was adorable.

“Wow, that's a Drifloon,” she said to Kai. “Any interest?”

OOC: Hey, we reached our year anniversary! <3 YEAH, CHAINY, BE JEALOUS. Sorry I couldn't stick around for two, and thanks for being my ranger. You were awesome for putting up with me and my stupid-silly long posts. ^.^
    Aaand... yeah. ._.

Kai stared and hemmed and hawed at the Drifloon for a while. She could go into an epic flashback, drop some references, just stand there and stare a year, but... no. It was ironic, really. She had come into the Park looking for a bunch of things, and she had found some of them. And here she was, staring at a Drifloon right in the face-- rare little bunch of creatures, the little blighters were-- and Kai just sighed.

<Don't blink,> Fred whispered intently in her head. <Whatever you do, don't blink. Blink and you're dead. Blink and they'll carry you away with them, send you back in time->

"Oh, hush," Kai chided. "They're not weeping."

<THE ANGELS HAVE THE PHONE BOX.> He paused expectantly. <I think we've provided anyone with enough information for them to understand that we're not clinically insane.> Another pause. <I've got a t-shirt that says that...>

"We?" Kai asked with a smile. Then, turning to Ivy and grinning regretfully, Kai found herself saying, "You know, it's sorta funny... I'd meant to capture a Drifloon here, a long time ago, but I think it's okay now." She would add that she had also intended to do her run in a reasonable span of time through the Heavens and not take forever, and that she wouldn't have to leave her run before finishing her allotted encounters-- seriously, three more left... it was practically infuriating-- but that would just sound odd. Ivy would probably understand. Odds are Kai wasn't the first trainer to walk out on a park run before she was done, but it was still a little odd inside. Her first park run, and it was still running, all those years later. Kai was tempted, for a moment, to say nothing and let the moment sit there, forever in eternity, and leave it there to remain open, but that would be silly. No. That would be melodramatic and foolish, and she couldn't have that running around. Closure was good. Closure was nice, actually. "Um," Kai hawed eloquently for a moment, and then continued speaking, "this might sound odd or silly, but I think I've got to go home now. Spent a little bit too long in the park, and I've already captured three Pokemon, right?" She gave a smile, this one much weaker than the others. "Yeah," she added distractedly. "As much as I hate to say it, I think I'll leave. The Heavens will always be here, won't they?" Unless, of course, they wouldn't, but that was just plain ridiculous.

    <You're shitting me. You're leaving.>

"You already read my mind; don't pretend like you didn't." Kai pretended to sniff and sound aloof. "And hey, if you don't bother me about this, I promise I'll let you outside and explore for a bit. Rules be damned."

She could feel him grin. <Yeah,> he said happily, almost wistful. <I'd like that. It's not like anything could go wrong... or something...> Realization dawned on him. <You've just trolled the Park in the biggest way possible. That's hardly fair. You should've let me help.>

    "Oops."

Kai was already standing up to leave, adjusting those little fiddly straps on her backpack and making sure that her camera was all set. Even if it had exploded in her face, it was a nice camera. "Thanks for taking me this far, Ivy," she said truthfully --funny adjective, that one, as if normal people would really talk without intending the truth-- "and who knows? Maybe we'll see each other again, right?"
