Khai is the only son of famous Pokémopolis expert Gerald Scarvender. It was a tragic time for Khai the day he learned his father had died from an accident whilst going on an archeological dig deep in the Tanoby Ruins in the Sevii Islands. His mother had divorced the Pokéhistorian some years previously, so Khai was left alone, with nothing but his father’s relics to keep him company, but this was not news to Khai. He did not care for the fortune his father had left him. His father was dead; the man who often left him in their mansion to go travel Regions looking for some artifact… He had hated him for this, and yet… He somehow felt guilty…

No, he told himself that night. It’s those dusty old pieces of rock that did this. And in a fit of rage and suppressed grief, Khai set out to destroy the relics in his father’s room. Nearly nothing was spared. But something strange happened when he grabbed for a slab labeled “Plume Fossil”… The Rock had glowed when Khai had touched it, and in a flash of light the rock was gone. Not that Khai had smashed it like he did with the “Tablet of Creation”, but because perching on his arm was a revived Archen…

Khai came to his senses and made friends with the Fossil Pokémon. A week later, he had regretted destroying the artifacts, especially when he had found his father’s journal. For in it, he read about the journeys of his father… It inspired him to take on his father’s footsteps, and seven years later, Khai Scarvender travels the globe in search of adventure.

Khai caught Volkran during an excavation up in the Opalayan Mountains near Mahogany Town in Johto. Volkran was the Torch (or alpha male) of a tribe of Snow Infernapes, a rare species of Infernape who prefer to live in much cooler places. Volkran can be quite impatient sometimes, but he’s a reliable member of Khai’s team.
