“All right, Gardevoir, doing good so far. Now use a Thunder Wave, and then follow up with Confusion.”

Now this really did cause me to become surprise. Tactically in a competitive battle it would be a fatal blow. If someone made a single mistake in battle because of something that could not be predicted that was one thing, but to purposely make a move that would have no bearing on the battle was a little weird. But since Eric knew it, just as I did, I could only wager that he had something else in mind, probably communicated telepathically between him and his Gardevoir.

The Gardevoir pointed an arm at Drilbur as a wreath of blue electricity started to from around her arm. I saw the Drilbur smile and knew it was going to take advantage of what it considered to be a blunder. The mole Pokemon lowered its head and charged, bringing both claws straight up to form a cone. But Drilbur had a solid distance to close while the Gardevoir only had to fire a blue wave of energy, which it easily did.

The wave of energy passed over and through the running form of Drilbur, doing nothing to halt or distract it. I saw a look cross Eric’s face and knew that what he wanted was for the Drilbur to be distracted by the light, but the Pokemon.

Drilbur launched from the ground and began to spin at a high speed, it claws resembling a spin drill of steel. I knew the attack to be Drill Run, one of the more powerful Ground attacks, only moves like Earth Power and Earthquake being stronger, but this was a move only a couple Pokemon could learn.

The Drilbur collided with the Gardevoir, bowling it over with the force of its attack. Drilbur maintained its bearing and managed to land on top of the Gardevoir. Quickly the Ground Pokemon raked its claws across the body of Gardevoir three times, it would have done more, but the Gardevoir suddenly pushed forward with a hand. The Drilbur was suddenly thrown off Gardevoir, the Psychic Pokemon had used Confusion to force the Pokemon away and save itself from any more pain.

I gave the Gardevoir an approving nod, it was a good move by it. Gardevoir however has sustained a lot of damage from the Drill Run and couldn’t keep up its Psychic power for long, it was forced to drop the Pokemon. Both Pokemon were panting hard, the battle was taking a toll on both of them.

OOC: Should this work I'll leave right after

IC: Gardevoir had done a fantastic job so far with everything, though in the process here it took a pretty hefty beating itself. Drilbur had jumped up, and caused its entire body to act like a drill, sending itself flying at Gardevoir, and crashing into her. It was using Drill Run, a seriously deadly move, that was likely to cause a critical hit. I looked over at her to make sure she was okay. And though she was a little wobbly now, it appeared as though she hadn't sustained a critical hit, and could keep going at it. Though this wasn't the end of Drilbur's assault. It ran over, and continued to slash away at Gardevoir by using Fury Swipes. This was where Gardevoir had ended up using Confusion. She did so to shove away Drilbur, and prevent itself from any additional damage. Both Pokemon were now panting heavily, and having trouble staying on their two feet. This had to be the end of things, but I wanted to be on the right side of it.

You've got enough in you for one more move?

Yeah, though it can't be anything too crazy. I'm pretty much on empty.

Don't worry. I'm planning on ending things with this hopefully.

"All right Gardevoir, you've done great this whole battle, and now it's time to wrap things up. Use Will-o-Wisp!" I commanded. Hit or miss I wasn't letting this opportunity slip by, I would throw a ball no matter what. I dropped my backpack down, and searched around inside of it. I had three Hyper Balls on hand, so I knew I didn't need to be conservative for my next run. I pulled out the ball and enlarged it. Should Will-o-Wisp hit it would burn the Drilbur, causing it to be easier to capture, and would also damage it at the end of each turn under normal circumstances. The damage meant nothing to me though, since I felt Gardevoir did more than enough damage. Gardevoir would release a few bluish-white balls of energy containing the flames at Drilbur. Though I had no clue if this would hit or not, I still intended to throw the Hyper Ball the second I saw the attack be fired off.

“All right, Gardevoir, you’ve done great this whole battle, and now it’s time to wrap things up. Use Will-o-Wisp!”

Seeing as how the battle was coming to a close Eric had decided to try and get off one last attack and inflict a status condition upon the Drilbur, therefore making it harder to capture.

As the Gardevoir summoned up the special purple flame of the Will-o-Wisp attack, Eric reached for his backpack and pulled out his three Hyperballs. He gave them a glance before dropping two back inside and keeping one his hand. He enlarged it and readied it so that he could time it with Gardevoir’s attack.

The Drilbur saw Eric reach for the ball and knew that chances were it was going to be captured. It didn’t have enough energy to fend off the Hyperball and barely enough to finish the battle.

I saw a glint in its eyes and knew that it was going to try and get off one last attack. Just then the Pokemon rushed forward, one of its claws gowing a silver in color, it was a Metal Claw attack. Both Pokemon were low on health but the Drilbur manged to reach Gardevoir. The brown Pokemon slashed at Gardevoir and rebounded away, right into the path the WoW attack. It screeched as it becamed burned from it, but it didn’t get that much of a chance to cry out because the Hyperball struck it a moment later.

The ball wiggled a couple of times before it settled in the dust. “Nice capture,” I said retrieving the ball. “Let’s get out of here.”
