NBP Ranger Makina Auran

It was the phone call that had woken up Makina that day.

Even though it had been months since her last job at the Park (likely due to her running off and leaving the last couple Runs she had taken due to family emergency), she had tried to keep to keep her phone charged and on standby in case an emergency came up. Unfortunately, all of the calls that came in were mainly secretaries asking if she had managed to fax in a certain paper or had managed to fill out another form. While a couple times a Ranger had called instead, it was to ask for help maintaining buildings rather than toss a Trainer escort mission her way.

This time, it looked like her streak of near-unemployment was over. Trying to fight back a yawn, Makina made a grab for the phone on her bedstand, failed, and managed to grab it on the second attempt. “Makina here, what papers got lost this time?”

Unsurprisingly, the secretary on the other end of the line didn't take sarcasm well. “I could always get another Ranger to do this job, you know. Do you want to finally get paid or not?”

That woke her up. “Just tell me who it is and the area I need to head out to, and I'll get ready right away. Anyone I know?”

“Most likely. Leo goes through the Park almost every day, so you had to have seen him before at least once. I'll send the data to your PDA.” the secretary abruptly cut off the call, likely busy trying to set up runs for other hopeful Trainers.

As if in reply, her PDA began to light up as Leo's information was sent her way. While she hurried to get ready, she took a quick skim over at the details. Unsurprisingly, Leo was bringing along a Houndoom as well as his Gardevoir. The other two Pokemon were new though, and as for the area...well, the Enigma Ruins were never the same each visit. As Makina prepped the last of her gear, she called out her own Gerdevoir, Aria, to let her know that their long break was over.

<So, we're taking Mindbender's Trainer along? It's been a while since I've seen her,> Aria said over our link, taking a peek over at the PDA as well. She tended to think about a specific Pokemon on the Trainer or Ranger's team rather than the person itself, a habit that was slightly annoying when said Pokemon had no nickname. <The Enigma Ruins, correct?>

“Right in one. Mind sending us in, or would a stop at the Docks be better for you since it has been a while?” The last thing Makina wanted was for them to end up overshooting their destination and end up walking the rest of the way, especially since she had a feeling that the secretary had been right earlier: she could easily be replaced.

<We need to head over to the front office anyways, unless you plan to go with no supplies at all.> Aria pointed out. <You left your pack there the time we got called in for maintenance duty.>

“Right... supplies first, then the Ruins front gate,” Makina muttered back, slightly embarrassed. That was proof enough that it had indeed been forever- going out on a Run without at least a steady supply of Pokedolls was foolish at best, suicidal at worst. On that note, the Gardevoir Teleported the two out.

Shadow was excited, for once, we weren't going to the lakes. We had gone there too many times, much more than should have been necessary. My brothers and I are working on capturing every Pokemon known to man, and Phione was said to be one of the hardest. We knew that Phione was in the lakes, but weren't sure where. We figured that between the four of us, we could track it down in less than five runs, but we were so wrong. We had to go there at least ten times, maybe more, we stopped counting after seven. Now though, we were headed into a new area in the park called the Enigma area. It had Pokemon from all over the island, so it was definitely something interesting that we were willing to do. Even if we didn't get any new Pokemon, it seemed cool enough for us to try.

"Grab those two Pokeballs and toss them over to me Shadow." I called out to the black coated dog with a red underbelly. His long arrow pointed tail wagged back and forth happily. He scooped up the Pokeballs and but them into my bag. In those Pokeballs contained Sideways, my Kabutops, and Krok, my Krookodile. I was also bringing Mindbender as usual. She was a great Pokemon to have on the team.

"Let's head out then Shadow." I said to him, and as I did, my body glowed white and disappeared,Mindbender had teleported us. We were now at the entrance of the Enigma area. Once there, I saw someone being teleported there just seconds after us. It was Ranger Makina and her Gardevoir. I walked over towards them and introduced myself as I always did, even if I already knew them, but I wasn't sure if I had so it was good to play it safe.

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Makina to locate her pack; a quick search in the back room revealed it to be shoved between two of the lowest shelves, where no one was likely to look for a lost bag. “Well, least we won't have to restock on any items,” Makina noted, taking a cursory look through the pack.

<Good, because we're likely late as is,> Aria stated back in reply, impatient to get to their destination. <Why didn't you just take it with us the last time we were here?>

“And give my lovely sister more ammo? Please.” the last thing Makina wanted was to hear from Serena once more about how she was 'wasting her time playing with Pokemon' instead of being a Gym Trainer like she was. “Either way, I'm done here. Ready when you are?”

Aria didn't bother with a response, opting instead to immediately send them on their way. There was a flash of whiteness as the Teleport took hold once more, and once everything came back into focus they were standing close to the front gate of the Enigma Ruins. Waiting nearby stood a Houndoom that was vaguely familiar to the two- though it seemed to be happier than the last time they had seen it- and a person that was equally familiar. “Good to see you again, Leo,” Makina said, greeting the two. “In case you may have forgotten, I'm Makina and the Gardevoir beside me is Aria.” As she walked towards the gate she added, “If you haven't been to the Ruins yet, you may be in for a surprise. Expect to see some randomness at the very least.”

<That's one way to put it,> Aria added silently, edging away from the Houndoom. <I completely forgot about Shadow, why did we get the one human with a Dark partner?>

Makina, who had been in the middle of unlocking the faux stone mechanism used for the Ruins gate, overheard the mental comment. You can go back to the Outpost if you want. I can use someone else for this trip.

<I'll stay. This place is always interesting to watch.>

With that out of the way, there was a muted grinding sound as the mechanism gave way, revealing an entrance large enough for a fairly large person to go through. Waving to motion for everyone else to hurry on inside, the group quickly entered the ruins before the entrance was closed once more.

The interior appeared to be made of stone, dully lit by an unseen light source above them. While at first it appeared to be an ordinary tunnel, albeit rather old, the scenery around them quickly began to change. The ceiling opened up, revealing a midday sky clouded over by smoke. In addition, the area became hot and dry, as if they had suddenly been transported near a volcano. Directly in front of them, a small red Pokemon gave a short cry as it was surprised to see newcomers appear before them. Its skin seemed to bubble like magma, though it appeared to be unfazed by this.

“I'll never get used to this place... did you want a Slugma, by any chance?” Makina asked Leo.

“Good to see you again, Leo,” Makina said as she greeted us. “In case you may have forgotten, I'm Makina and the Gardevoir beside me is Aria. If you haven't been to the Ruins yet, you may be in for a surprise. Expect to see some randomness at the very least.”

"Good to see you too, Makina." I replied. "This here is Shadow, my Houndoom, and Mindbender, my Gardevoir. And yeah, I haven't been to this area yet, so it should be interesting." With that, Makina lead me into the ruins, it wasn't long before we encountered a Pokemon.

“I'll never get used to this place... did you want a Slugma, by any chance?” She asked me.

"No, I gave my last one away as a gift. Not too interested in capturing another one right now, I'll throw a Pokedoll if we can't escape it."

"No, I gave my last one away as a gift. Not too interested in capturing another one right now, I'll throw a Pokedoll if we can't escape it," Leo replied almost immediately.

Makina was hardly surprised by Leo's response. If she recalled correctly, he had mainly gone after rare Pokemon in the one Run she had had taken him on. He had somehow managed to get a voice recording of a Phione, and had been determined to find one. Unfortunately, they had not seen one that day. Regardless, Slugma could hardly be considered rare. “Let's see if this one will let us slide on by, then,” she replied, trying to lead Leo and Shadow around the Fire-type.

Unfortunately, Slugma didn't seem to be in an agreeable mood. Seeing that the humans were attempting to pass it, the slug-like creature immediately moved to block their way, glaring over at Shadow as if daring the Houndoom to make the first move.

Leo appeared ready for this, however. Taking out a Pokedoll he had stashed away, the Trainer lobbed it towards the stubborn wild Pokemon. Immediately, Slugma became disinterested as it went over to investigate the toy. Taking this opportunity to escape, Makina quickly led Leo and Shadow further into the Ruins.

As they walked away the environment shifted once more, registering that their encounter was complete. It shifted back to its default tunnel state, giving them a brief respite before yet another region would appear once more.

I wish there was some way to make it so that wouldn't happen every single time, Makina silently stated to Aria, earning a bored nod from the Gardevoir. It was understandable why such a measure was in place- it gave Trainers plenty of time to heal their team before the next encounter- but it just seemed like a waste of time when it happened right after just walking past a Pokemon. “Were you after anything in particular here?” Makina asked Leo, walking down the still straight stone path. “I might not be able to control just where we go next, but sometimes this place gives a hint of what is coming if the path forks.”

It wasn't long before their environs changed again. This time, instead of an open sky, the walls simply became more rugged and cave-like. The temperature didn't change much, which ruled out the possibility that they were back in the Deckbi region or its polar opposite, Oktori. Another Pokemon appeared as well, this one a blue shade bordering on teal with a pure black tail. Currently it was off to the side, with its back facing the right wall and one hand up in a salute gesture. As always, its eyes were scrunched shut. Oddly enough, it appeared to be ignoring our presence, focusing instead on staying perfectly still.

“Looks like a Wobbuffet,” Makina remarked, looking over at the Pokemon. “Either it's standing at attention, or doing an extremely bad statue impression. Did you want one, or should we just leave it be?”

Slugma, as I had expected, didn't let us leave without a fight. However, I wasn't interested in fighting, so I just threw a Pokedoll at the fiery slug. I was quite certain that Slugma would cause the doll to burn up, but I didn't stick around to find out. Wasn't too interested in finding out how long the effects of the Pokedoll lasted, it was better just to leave before that happened. After a while longer of walking, we came across a Wobbuffett.

“Looks like a Wobbuffet,” Makina remarked, looking over at the Pokemon. “Either it's standing at attention, or doing an extremely bad statue impression. Did you want one, or should we just leave it be?”

"Let's just leave it too, not interested in owning one, at least not right now anyways." I said, preparing another doll.

“Let's just leave it too, not too interested in owning one, at least not right now anyways,” Leo replied, already prepping another Doll just in case.

“Fair enough.” Makina shrugged, moving to lead them past the odd Psychic-type creature. Wobbuffet were tricky to use, being downright devastating if their Trainer could guess what type of move their opponent would issue next. On the other hand, their main use was just being a counter; something that not every team used.

Unfortunately, as soon as they tried to step forward, the Wobbuffet finally decided to come to life. With eyes still closed, it looked over in Aria and Shadow's direction, freezing both Pokemon in place. This had to be Shadow Tag; an ability that prevented the opponent from escaping. Since it had been activated, it was obvious that Wobbuffet was done playing statue.

Once again, Leo tossed a Doll forward, the motion almost lazy as if he had expected nothing else. The plush toy lightly bounced against the blue creature's head before landing on the floor directly in front of it. Giving a happy cry, Wobbuffet gave another salute and released its hold on the two Pokemon, opting to focus on the Doll instead.

<Can we please not repeat that?> Aria asked, giving a shudder as we walked on past. <That technique always just seems...unnatural.>

Says the lime-green psychic monster, I pointed out. Besides, Imprison is supposed to have a similar effect. Is it unnatural to you when you use it?

<That's different. Besides, there is something just a little more unnatural ahead,> Aria said, her tone taking on a more acid tone.

Curious to see just what was riled up her partner so quickly, Makina looked forward. The area, oddly enough, was still in the same cave-like form from their last encounter. While there appeared to be a fork in the tunnel roughly seventy feet away, the paths branching off to the left and right respectively, nothing else seemed out of place. As she saw something move though, the Ranger was able to finally pinpoint just what was wrong with Aria.

Directly in the middle of the fork, a creature seemed to be lost in thought. Its color scheme was a both white and green, similar to a Gardevoir save for the green taking on a more forest-green hue. After that, the similarities between the two ceased. While Aria was frail and depended on long-distance fighting, this Pokemon was suited more for close combat, with a sleeker form and his arms developed into blades. For the moment, the creature seemed unsure where to head next; while the path on the right seemed similar to the tunnel they were all standing in, the one on the right had a few plants lining the entrance.

“Gallade, dead ahead,” Makina said to Leo, ignoring Aria's annoyance for now. “He doesn't seem to have seen us, but it's also possible he isn't looking for a fight either. Still want to go for it, or would you rather choose one of the paths ahead?”

Like the Slugma, Wobbuffett didn't want to leave us alone without a fight, one which I wasn't giving it. I only wanted certain things, and this wasn't one of them. I wasn't really here for anything in particular, but something like Abra or Onix would be cool, though I was just here to check the place out and see how things here were. So far, it was alright. I tossed my Pokedoll at Wobbufett and continued walking, I wanted something more interesting.

A few minutes later, that is exactly what I got. “Gallade, dead ahead,” Makina said to me. “He doesn't seem to have seen us, but it's also possible he isn't looking for a fight either. Still want to go for it, or would you rather choose one of the paths ahead?”

"Gallade is an interesting Pokemon, but no where near as good as Gardevoir, I'll pass on this." I said to her. "Let's just go on one of the paths. I don't know this area too well, so you can pick where we go." With that, I took out my camera and snapped a photo of Gallade.

“Gallade is an interesting Pokemon, but nowhere near as good as Gardevoir. I'll pass on this,” Leo replied. He took a glance over at the nearby fork before adding, “let's just go on one of the paths. I don't know this area too well, so you can pick where we go.”

Aria seemed to relax after hearing Leo's response, looking especially smug at the statement that Gardevoir were the better evolution. <Of course we are. Nothing that needs something outside the natural order like a Stone to evolve could ever be better.>

Careful, your narcissism is showing Makina responded back to her partner, annoyed at the way the Gardevoir was acting. True, most Gallade they had met before seemed more direct about their methods of battling and more than a few appeared to hit on every Gardevoir they saw, but there had to be exceptions to every species. She would try to have a long talk with Aria later about this, but for now there were more important things to worry about. “It's hard to know the area at all, really,” she replied to Leo, “It shifts around so much no one can really take a map of this place.”

As they approached closer to the fork, the Gallade finally turned back around. While the Dual Blade Pokemon jumped back slightly in surprise, it quickly adopted a defensive stance as it saw Aria staring directly at him with a scathing expression. Thankfully, the encounter was fizzled out before it even began- a bright flash briefly lit up the area, causing the Gallade to quickly retreat down the left path.

“Well, that works,” Makina said, seeing Leo put the Camera away. “Plus, our way was chosen for us it seems. Shall we continue?” With that, the Ranger directed them to the path on the right, where they walked about twenty feet before the scenery changed once more.

The walls around them shifted from rock to a cluster of trees, their bases thick and reaching towards the sky. The ground was littered with fallen branches and leaves, perfectly emulating a forest floor. While the tree canopy shaded some of the sunlight up above, where were still pockets of light that shone through.

Near one of the tree roots, a small Pokemon was deep in slumber. It was reddish in color with yellow markings along its body, and had short feelers atop its head. As it lightly snored, the sound had an almost musical sound to it.

Not wishing to wake the creature, Makina lightly tapped Leo on the shoulder and pointed over at the Kricketot, directing his attention to the Bug-type. While the species was fairly common, who knew- perhaps he wished to capture one still.

Gallade didn't bother us, so there was no need to use one of my Pokedolls, which was good because it saved me money. I didn't want to keep wasting the dolls, which is something I usually did each run. I used at least eight dolls per run. We left the Gallade in peace and waited for Makina to continued foward.

“Well, that works,” Makina said, "Plus, our way was chosen for us it seems. Shall we continue?” I nodded and we moved forward. A few minutes later, a sleeping Kricketot came across our path. Makina pointed over towards it and I shook my head no and pointed at the pathway meaning I wanted to move on.

Leo barely took a glimpse over at the dozing Kricketot before shaking his head, pointing ahead to signal that he wished to continue on. Out of habit, his hand was already halfway to his pack, as if expecting the wild Pokemon to wake up and he would have to throw yet another Doll.

Fortunately, luck appeared to be on Leo and Shadow's side. As Makina carefully guided them forward as silently as possible, the Kricketot seemed dead to the world save for a light snoring coming from the tiny creature. As it turned over, a small round object it had been laying on became dislodged and rolled over to near their feet; a Red Apricorn. Figuring it to be a peace offering in thanks for leaving it be, Makina silently handed the object to Leo. Soon, they managed to leave the Kricketot far in the distance... but they were still effectively “locked” in the Woods, judging by the fact that everything seemed perfectly content to stay in place.

“There must be another Pokemon hiding about,” Makina said, scanning the treeline above them. There was a faint buzzing sound coming from somewhere, but she couldn't pinpoint the location. When yet another, much closer buzz caused her to jump, she realized that it was just her cell going off. Curious, she checked it to notice a new text message.

Is Leo or one of his brothers out there with you? Judging from the number it came from, the message came from one of the secretaries in charge of assigning Runs.

Makina could never remember her name, or any of their names really... she made a mental note to start labeling all the contacts in her phone later. Yes, I'm taking Leo through the Ruins. We're between encounters currently, but still have quite a ways to go. Is something wrong?

There was a short pause before the phone went off once more. He was supposed to lead a Run of his own today, with one of the Rangers actually. Brace for a guest.

“And what is that supposed to mean?” Makina said out loud upon reading the last message. Seeing that Leo was waiting nearby, most likely wondering just what was going on, she showed him both the first and second text on the phone. “Apparently you were supposed to be somewhere else not long ago. Know anything about this?”

Moments later, there was a bright flash nearby as a creature materialized into place. It was feline in form, with light violet fur and long pointed ears, with tufts of fur underneath them. These features, along with the red gem adorning its head, revealed it to be an Espeon... an oddly familiar one, actually.

<Haji? What are you doing out here?> Aria replied, moving to greet the Psychic-type. Only one active Ranger preferred to use an Espeon, so it was fairly easy to identify just who this was.

Haji gave a brief nod to the Gardevoir, but seemed to be looking about for someone. When the Espeon noticed Shadow nearby, his almond-shaped eyes seemed to narrow a little before he began to say something to the Houndoom in what sounded to be a berating tone. Judging from the sulking look on Shadow's face, he knew exactly why Haji was here.

<Apparently he or one of his others went MIA on Ivy,> Aria translated, mesmerized by the odd sight. <It's interesting to actually see Haji showing any form of anger, granted it was his partner that got left behind.>

Before Makina could think of a reply, another buzzing caused her to reach for her phone again- and nearly drop it in shock as a large insectoid creature glided down from a nearby tree. It was dark green in hue, and had large red compound-like eyes. For the moment, it seemed fascinated watching the debate between both Shadow and Haji.

“So... since we're here, did you want a Yanmega?” Makina said to Leo, still a little shaken.

"No, I don't. I'll get someone on that if I am though." I said shrugging my shoulders. Then an Espeon came, which I recognized to be Ivy's and some stuff happened and whatnot and blah blah blah.

“So... since we're here, did you want a Yanmega?” Makina said to me.

"Na, lets move on. I'm mainly looking for Pokemon in their basic stage." With that I took out a doll and threw it at Yanmega.

“Na, let's move on, Leo replied, not appearing to be interested in Yanmega at the least. “I'm mostly looking for Pokemon in their basic stage.”

Seeing that his work was complete, Haji promptly turned his back to the group and winked out of sight. Seeing the Espeon had definitely been strange, and even stranger that it had been over and done with so quickly. Makina thought on the matter a moment, maybe discussing the situation with Ivy after this Run was over, but for now she had a job to do. Seeing that Yanmega was now looking directly at her, she opted to ask the creature instead of just walking straight past it. “Would you mind letting us pass? No one here is looking for a fight today.”

Unfortunately, it seemed like Yanmega had other plans. Hearing that it was going to be denied a battle, the creature buzzed loudly and made a beeline directly in front of their path, effectively blocking it. This was quickly remedied as a Combee doll went sailing forward, bonking the wild Pokemon on the head. While the Bug-type was dazed, Makina swiftly led them around and further down the forest trail.

This time the change was immediate. Instead of reverting back to the Ruins, the environment shifted to a sandy environment with sparse plant life dotting the land. Where there were once tall trees, shallow pools surrounded them all around. It was inside one of these pools of water that their next visitor surfaced. It was dark blue with a black swirl lining its belly, a trait that would stay with it unless it chose another evolutionary path. Despite the lack of hands, the small Water-type was able to balance fairly well thanks to its short tail.

“Looks like the Ruins is starting to notice how quickly we're progressing, since there was no break this time,” Makina remarked. “Did you want a Poliwag?”

“Looks like the Ruins is starting to notice how quickly we're progressing, since there was no break this time,” Makina remarked. “Did you want a Poliwag?”

I thought about it. I didn't really want to capture a Poliwag, but then again there wasn't really anything interesting coming my way at the moment either. I was a bit disappointed so far, but I was going to keep going on. Capturing Poliwag at least ensure that I would be leaving here with at least one good Pokemon, which was better than none. Poliwag was also a basic Pokemon, which is how I preferred my Pokemon, so it wasn't too bad.

"Yeah, I might as well attempt to capture this little guy." I replied.

I looked over at the blue, spherical tadpole. It had large eyes, a pink mouth, and a long, mostly transparent tail. It walked a little funny too, probably due to the fact that its legs weren't fully developed yet, being a tadpole Pokemon and all. It is said that the direction of the belly spiral differs by area, with the equator being thought to have an effect on this.

I knew that Poliwag's skin is so thin, its internal organs are visible. It was also very flexible, so most bites and such wouldn't really effect it much. The abilities that Poliwag possessed were Damp, which prevented explosions, Water Absorb, which, of course absorbed water type moves, and Swift Swim, which doubled its speed in rain. Swift Swim was also one of my favorite abilities, it comes in quite handy. Poliwag knew moves such as Water Gun, Ice Beam, and of course, Hypnosis.

"Alright Mindbender, you can take point." I called out to her. She moved forward, ready for battle.

"What shall I begin with?" Mindbender asked me.

"Just start with a basic move like Energy Ball." I said back to her. "We don't want to take it down yet, but we do want to do this as fast as possible. I don't want to spend too much time here battling this baby Pokemon. That being said, don't knock it out. Also, figure out what ability Poliwag has, trace it with yours."

"Understood, attempting to trace and will proceed with Energy Ball." She said. She closed her eyes and began concentrating on the Poliwag, reading it. She quickly opened her eyes and grinned, I knew that she had figured out the ability and would tell me once she finished her move.

A greenish yellow orb of energy formed between her hands. Once it was at a decent size, she threw the orb like a baseball towards Poliwag. I just watched and waited to see what would happen.

Leo appeared to think over the matter a moment before responding. "Yeah, I might as well attempt to capture this little guy," he said, looking at the Poliwag as if deciding what would be the best method of capturing.

<He's going to use Mindbender, no doubt about it,> Aria noted, watching the approaching battle with interest. Despite not being much of a fighter, it was always interesting to see and note the methods different Trainers used with their partners.

I wouldn't be too certain. After all, he brought four Pokemon with him. Plus, he already has Shadow out, Makina relayed back. Type disadvantage or not, a wide variety of moves could easily tip the scales in a match. Plus, she vaguely remembered reading that the Houndoom had a Grass move in his arsenal.

It appeared as if Aria was right, however. "Alright Mindbender, you can take point," Leo called out, summoning his own Gardevoir forth. The Psychic-type glanced over at the Poliwag, giving her opponent an appraising look before turning around to face Leo.

<Before doubting me next time, look over your list first,> Aria said, a hint of smugness being sensed over the link.

While Leo and Mindbender were busy going over their tactics, Makina sneaked a quick peek at her PDA to note what the Trainer had in his reserves. Sure enough, the other three have been less than ideal choices. While she had been right about Shadow possessing a Grass move, something like SolarBeam would likely knock out a weaker creature like the Poliwag he faced. Either way, this was likely to be a quick battle.

"Just start with a basic move like Energy Ball," Leo said. "We don't want to take it down yet, but we do want to do this as fast as possible. I don't want to spend too much time here battling this baby Pokemon. That being said, don't knock it out. Also, figure out what ability Poliwag has. Trace it with yours."

Mindbender nodded in confirmation, though seemed slightly confused by the added command. Regardless, after a moment's hesitation she began to charge a small orb of forest green energy, aiming it directly towards the nearby Poliwag.

Seeing Mindbender's confusion, Makina took another look at her list to skim over the Gardevoir's profile. Almost instantly, she saw the issue. No wonder she's confused. Synchronize won't help in this situation, unless Poliwag decides to use a status move.

Poliwag, seeing a move directed towards her, began to puff up her tiny blue body in anger. Immediately the tadpole Pokemon began to charge an attack of her own, breathing in a large amount of air before exhaling forward in an icy burst.

At nearly the same time, Mindbender loosed her own move as well. The Energy Ball sliced through the opposing move, striking Poliwag and causing her to roll backwards about a foot or two before managing to regain her balance. Still, the wild Pokemon's attack managed to get through, causing the Gardevoir to shiver in cold.

Taking advantage of Mindbender's slowed movement, Poliwag launched another attack, spitting a small stream of water forward. Judging from the rings that surrounded it, this could only be Water Pulse. Unless Leo issued a move quickly, Mindbender had a chance of both taking damage and becoming confused.

The small Poliwag shot an Icy Wind at Mindbender. She took the attack without taking much damage, which wasn't a surprise seeing how Icy Wind was a particularly weak attack. Her speed and movements however were slowed, that was the side effect of Icy Wind, one of which I liked using quite often, especially against particular Pokemon that were pretty fast. Poliwag wasn't done there though, he let out a Water Pulse attack that was coming straight towards Mindbender.

"Mindbender, counter that with Thunderbolt, give it a bit of juice to do some good damage." I called out to her. That was the first time I called out an attack out loud instead of doing it telepathically. Mindbender quickly began to create electricity around her body and swiftly fired it at the oncoming attack and the Poliwag.

Leo, seeing Poliwag's incoming attack, reacted quickly. "Mindbender, counter that with Thunderbolt, give it a bit of juice to do some good damage," he called out to his Gardevoir.

Mindbender began to build up electrical energy, a few sparks dancing around her form as she did so. However, her movements were slowed thanks to Poliwag's icy attack from earlier, and before she could fire off her own attack a few of the outer waves from Water Pulse managed to strike home. Fortunately, she managed to avoid before becoming confused and the Gardevoir soon launched her charged Thunderbolt straight at the nearby Water-type, causing it to cry out in pain.

Poliwag, even though she had taken a powerful blow from two super-effective attacks, wasn't done for the count just yet. It waddled quickly towards the nearby body of water, and flung a large amount of mud towards Mindbender's direction. Maybe she was trying to use the nearby mud as a means to prevent further Electric attacks, or maybe it was just chose a strange way to attack; either way, the globs of wet dirt were heading straight towards the Gardevoir.

"Mindbender, stop that mud with your Psychic attack." I called out to her. Her Psychic powers were strong, but I wasn't sure if she would stop it in time. It wasn't that hard to do, especially since Poliwag is a basic Pokemon and not that strong. Of course I wasn't going to let that make me feel too confident, but it was still something we could easily handle. "Then, I want you to use Magical Leaf, that should be the last attack we need to bring Poliwag's health low enough for us to capture."

I knew that she would levitate the leaves off of the ground and launch them towards the Poliwag. Then, and only after the attack hit could I throw my Parkball at Poliwag and hope for success. I wanted to move on already, and honestly, I wasn't even particularly sure why I went after this Poliwag in the first place. I didn't really need it, or want it for that matter, but perhaps I would find someone that would. I carefully aimed my Parkball and waited for the right moment to launch the ball.

"Mindbender, stop that mud with your Psychic attack," Leo called out, waiting a moment before adding, "Then, I want you to use Magical Leaf, that should be the last attack we need to bring Poliwag's health low enough for us to capture."

Mindbender raised her wispy arms, and most of the globules of mud halted in midair as they were held in place by the Gardevoir's psychic power. While a few smaller flecks of the attack managed to hit her, they appeared to do minimal damage. Once the Mud Shot was fully repelled, Mindbender let the mud fall harmlessly to the ground as she summoned a small amount of leaves before her. The flora shone with a strange light before she directed them towards the nearby Poliwag.

Surprised to see her attack nulled in such a manner, Poliwag was completely helpless as the Magical Leaf attack slashed into her, making the tiny creature slump to the ground. Before she could use another attack, the wild Pokemon was sucked into a tiny sphere- Leo having thrown a Parkball as soon as Mindbender's attack had finished. The capture device wobbled about dangerously, and for a moment it looked as if Poliwag still had some fight left. Moments later though, the Parkball finally grew still.

“Congrats on a successful capture,” Makina said, retrieving the Parkball and placing it into a side pocket in her pack for now. “Shall we move on, or did you want to see if there are any other Pokemon hiding about before the area shifts once more?”

"Yeah, I want to see what other Pokemkn we can fond before it shifts again. Lead the way." I was quite content with my capture, I am pretty sure I could find someone that wanted a Poliwag for their team. Politoed were quite common now.
