A Ranger named Tella paced back and forth at the top of a sunlit, grassy hill in a forest clearing, a hillock that sloped steeply down to a cave in a cliffside. Her strange dull-blue eyes scanned the skies, then the surrounding forest, before her gaze was drawn inexorably back to the unassuming hole in the side of the moss-covered rock of the cliff.

Perhaps twenty years of age, the young Kanto native's eyes, almond-shaped and coloured a washed-out-looking blue, seemed somehow older. Tella stood with an easy grace that could fool an ignorant onlooker into believing that here was a dancer... But which would tell a warrior that here was a dangerous foe in her own right, regardless of the Poké Balls at her waist. There were six Poké Balls: one full-sized and hanging open from its harness, while the other five were reduced to cherry-sized capsules and clasped securely into an understated but high-tech black belt that would eject them all at the same time in an emergency.

Tella's clothing was as understated and hyper-practical— almost combat-ready— as the belt that held her Pokémon partners. She wore a long-sleeved black jacket over a white shirt with what looked like a bulletproof vest in between. A pair of heavy-duty black polyester pants with perfectly fitted patches of Kevlar sewn onto them matched her black Tauros-leather boots, which were also strengthened with circular heavy-plastic reinforcements.

Behind this harsh-looking Trainer stood her Gallade, Lae: his calm, balanced stance seemed at odds with his partner's hair-trigger readiness for battle, but there was no doubt that he could be just as ready at a moment's notice... Or perhaps even with no notice at all, given his species' renowned supernatural sense for impending conflict.

Tella was waiting for someone. According to Ranger HQ, a girl named K'sariya was the next guest to be visiting the Enigma Ruins. It didn't elaborate much, aside from listing the visitor's quantitative traits: female; 26 years of age; about five foot six or seven. Tella grimaced. She disliked going into anything with so little information, and interaction with human beings— erratic, talkative creatures— was one of her least favourite things to enter blindly.

Movement in the sky, above the horizon to the southeast, alerted Tella to the approach of one of the flying capsules that transported Pokémon Trainers from the Sky Platform to the various regions of the huge National Park. The capsules were fast, efficient, and safe; but they couldn't go everywhere, and the Enigma Ruins had a way of making technology... malfunction. So the capsules were used to deliver the Trainers to pre-arranged meeting points, after which Rangers would monitor them and make sure nothing altogether terrible happened (to the locale or to the Trainer.)

The capsule vehicle streaked down from the sky, decelerating gradually and eventually coming to a perfect stop at the very top of the hill with a quiet firing of thrusters. The Ranger Tella started walking towards it with an attitude of perfect equanimity; as she did so, the door in the side of the vehicle began to open...

(( first time playing her, trying to feel out her character a bit,
so sorry for the length of the post! thank you so much for this run!
    @Magikchicken ))

    It is cold, recently.

Palms hover several inches away from the flickering fire. Chapped lips force out a quick spurt of breath and pupils search the space in front of her mouth, testing to see if she can see her breath yet. The slightest of wisps fades quickly into the air. So, perhaps not cold, but cool. It speaks to hardship to come.

She rubs her hands together over the barrel-contained flames one more time before she ducks back inside. It'll get warmer once time stretches into the afternoon. K'sariya pulls the flap of generic blue plastic back in place behind her. Hunched form shuffles awkwardly inside the too-short makeshift tarp shelter, making her way to her mattress to sit.

Legs pull tightly up against her chest. Arms lock about her knees, propping her chin on her tattered jeans as she tries to stay warm for now. Lids fall shut over dark eyes as she takes a deep breath. After a few long moments, her hand drops to one of the Pokeballs at her belt, clutching it tightly for a moment, but doing nothing else. Other hand reaches for a small piece of paper. Eyes squint to read it again in the dim, as she has many times before.

K'sariya had fought with herself for a while on if the voucher was fake, and if it wasn't, on how much it was worth. She'd dragged her eyes over the comical, word art curve of the type cast across an over-saturated graphic of a grassy hill with a mountain in the background more times than she could count. Congratulations! said the gaudy scrawl of Comic Sans, You've won! It wasn't until she'd gotten her hands on enough change to use a pay phone and call the number that she discovered that it was not a cheesy scam--just a poorly-designed card for a reward adventure to the Park. The card had an address that had already been faded out when she'd found it, with the To: tagline of Current Resident being the only thing that remained. Not that she would have given it back anyway.

These things weren't cheap. Well, to her, at least. She lifts her hand from the ball and feels the change in her pocket. She could sell the thing. But who would buy it? It looked fake. It'd be impossible to get someone to take it.

K'sariya grabs a bundle of her clothes then crawls back out. Nose twitches as she's greeted with the familiar scent of dryer lint on the way back out. The alleyway beside the laundromat was kept fairly warm by the vents, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't get sick of the dusty smell.

She puts out the barrel fire and heads inside, clothes in toe.

    ***
Nervous is an understatement. The girl fidgets in her seat even as she tries to pass off being calm. Calloused thumb traces circles over the pendant on her necklace. She's put on her whites: pale shorts end an inch or two above her knees, fit for the warming afternoon; a spaghetti strap tank top hangs loosely from her frame, shoulders covered by a short jean jacket; alabaster tennis shoes are a bit worn, and a sport dark, smudged stains here and there from the asphalt. She does a subtle pit check. Well, at least she's sleeping near dryer vents instead of near a garbage can. Better to smell like dry, mostly-odorless linen than last week's meatballs.

She looks out the window with a gulp, infinitely uneasy with the capsule. She'd almost nope'd right out when they told her she'd be taking it to her destination. If she hadn't come this far already, she'd have turned around. K'sariya gazes quietly out the window. This is the kind of thing that her parents could never afford, and the kind of thing that, once she could afford it in university, never had the time for. It had a nice view. But hopefully, it'd amount to more than that. For a while, she stares at the reflection of her marred features, undeterred by the scars that have been her undoing.

The vehicle slows and descends and she takes a deep, relieved breath that she hasn't ended up a disaster statistic. Well, yet. She waits until the thing finally lands completely before she counts her Torchics. A fresh breeze sweeps into the cabin as the door in the side opens.

Uneasily, K'sariya exits, stepping down and appreciating the feel of her feet back on solid earth. She squints in the brightness, sharp in contrast to the light let in by the tinted windows of the capsule. Dark hand raises to shield obsidian eyes from the sun, squinting as she adjusts.

Focusing pupils capture the sight of a pair of figures moving up toward her. She hones in on it, tensing at first, and then remembers where she's at. The tension eases from her and her eye-shielding hand lowers, dropping to hang at her side. It brushes against her belt and she remembers really why she's here. She forgets about the Ranger for a moment. There are more important somethings--no, someones--to worry about.

A thud sounds in unison with a flash of light, and then another, more metallic peal rings out with another red strobe. The first beast yawns with both of its heads, blue maws gaping, glittering teeth framing coiling and uncoiling tongues. Spindly, growing wings extend straight into the sky with a mighty stretch. They both give a ferocious shake of their dials, black bangs waving down over their eyes. Skulls bump and within a moment they seem to have remembered each others' presence, and the two heads immediately resume their snapping war at one another.

On the other, heavy metal plates flex in turn down the line in one rapid wave of a shudder. The scars that mar its plates become more apparent in the glistening sun. Brilliant blue eyes blink rapidly, blinded by the sudden light of day. Steel-banded limbs shuffle bulky gray body about a bit, tasting freedom.

She crouches to them and they come, both with their own characteristic chortles. The Zweilous' heads even get along enough to both nuzzle her shoulder, while the Larion presses her steel muzzle gently into her folded knee with a deep, contented rumble. A sigh slips from her lips. It's painfully obvious to anyone who has been around Pokemon to know it's been far too long since these creatures had been out of their Pokeball. K'sariya would be ashamed if it hadn't been a necessity.

"Invictus," she croons warmly as she scratches beneath the steel beast's great gray chin. It takes less than a millisecond for the other creature to get infinitely jealous. Both heads impatiently butt in to consume the attention of both hands. One loosely takes her forearm in its jaws while the other leans its forehead against her palm. She gives them both a good scratch, chuckling softly. "I know, Raigho."

By then, her Ranger has neared. K'sariya frees her playfully-trapped arm from the dragon's grasp and rises, the warmth in her features cooling considerably. Eyes turn on the woman after giving her accompanying Pokemon a brief glance, watching carefully as she offers a quiet nod of greeting. Over the years, she's almost made a game out of seeing how quickly people looked away once they saw the state of her face. The woman looks forward to seeing how long this one will take.

Tella, walking at a cautious pace, approached the girl who had emerged from the vehicle; the Ranger's attitude was professional but wary at first, as it tended to be with anyone new.

The Ranger watched carefully as, without acknowledging Tella's presence with more than a glance, the visitor released two Pokémon from their Poké Balls: a Zweilous and a Lairon.

Instead of appearing offended at being ignored, though, Tella continued to watch. The ever-prepared Ranger relaxed— ever so slightly— when the two Pokémon immediately rushed to their Trainer's side and were met with a tender, loving touch and a small, vulnerable smile. Whatever else this girl K'sariya was, she knew how to treat her partners to inspire such affection... And the opinions of Pokémon mattered a lot to Tella.

While Tella continued to walk slowly towards her newly landed charges, her eyebrows pinched together briefly as she considered her own thoughts. Why exactly was she instinctively thinking of this Trainer as a 'girl?' According to the dossier, K'sariya had at least five years of age on Tella herself, but there was something almost fragile hidden behind the other young woman's façade. So absorbed was Tella in her self-questioning that it took a moment for the Ranger to even register that anything was amiss with K'sariya's face: three jagged scars marred the Trainer's features, from forehead to right cheekbone. Analytically, Tella's instincts reconstructed the blow in a matter of less than a second: a cruel tearing motion across the face with claws or some other set of linked blades, the strike as clear to Tella as if she had seen the wound being inflicted.

The Ranger nodded briefly to herself, no emotion present on her face, and looked the rest of the Trainer up and down, noting the girl's— the young woman's— threadbare clothing and lack of any significant gear on her aside from the Poké Balls and a standard-issue beginner's kit of Park Balls and medicines. She also noted the telltale signs of malnutrition— the faintly visible outline of ribs attesting to too many meals missed; the slightly swollen stomach indicating that the remainder of those meals were far less than was needed for a human body to thrive.

A memory flashed unbidden through Tella's mind. Inside, she was thirteen again, on the run and forced to hide by powers beyond her control. She felt a flash of the gnawing hunger; the finger-numbing cold; the ever-present fear that tomorrow would bring only death.

Forcing her features to remain impassive, and hoping that she had betrayed none of this inner turmoil— showing weakness to a stranger was something she despised— Tella nodded one more time, concluding her ever-so-brief three seconds of sizing K'sariya up, and swung the small pack of supplies off of her back, opening it and withdrawing something from one of the carefully organized compartments within.

"Welcome to the Park. You're insufficiently prepared; as a Park Ranger I'm required to supply what's missing. Eat this." Without a further word of explanation aside from the stress on the word required— indicating that refusal would get Tella in trouble— the Ranger held out a sizeable meal-substitute bar in a shiny wrapper. The bar would taste like a strange and unappetizing mixture of chocolate flavouring and protein powder, but at least it would be both filling and nutritious.

As if to forestall any conclusion that she was being soft or kind, as soon as the item was taken the Ranger turned and gestured curtly downhill with one shoulder, all business. "We're headed down that hill and into the cave. The ruined lab is within. While we walk, read the flyer that will have been included in your starter kit. Keep up, don't go off on your own, and follow all instructions; my duty is to make sure the rules are respected, and I can't do that unless you co-operate. Are these terms clear?"

Tella's matter-of-fact attitude seemed almost perfectly calculated to quash any impression the Ranger might have given that she was suggesting K'sariya wasn't able to take care of herself. In fact, the borderline harshness of her words seemed to be going a bit far in the opposite direction!

Dark eyes bore quietly into the Ranger, intent, features chiseled into a hard, unmoving set. The other looks at her neutrally for a moment before K'sariya notes the small flash of realization in pale azure eyes. It takes inward restraint to stifle the smallest of scoffs--her outward features remain unchanged. Pupils track the woman's every movement. Invictus and Raigho become quickly aware in the mood of their Trainer, feeding off of her terseness to fix their quarry with equally unwavering stares. Arms fix themselves across her chest, locking and folding solidly.

Down, then up again--from the sweeping of her gaze, K'sariya knows that she is being scrutinized, though quickly. The sable woman does not move her gaze even as the other does. There is a the slightest of shifts in the girl's features but it flashes away so quickly that the Park's visitor cannot quite identify it. Noted, comes the thought.

The Ranger offers a nod and she returns it. Arms release their coiled tension and lower once more, falling to hang loosely at her sides. While the Ranger moves to grab something from her pack, K'sariya grudgingly returns Raigho to his ball. With a red flicker, the bi-colored dragon returns to his prison. He is the most likely to get her into trouble; she would be taking the route of caution until she knew what exactly would be going on.

Words trickle toward her and she looks up abruptly, returning her gaze to her guide. Brows furrow as abyssal pupils follow the path of an extended arm down to a nutrition bar. Form slowly stiffens with physical restraint. There is an emphasis on required that is noted, but that emphasis does not soothe the sting to her pride. Slowly, she reaches out to take the bar, looking to make eye contact once more while doing so.

As soon as she grasps it in her hands, however, the Ranger turns and is off. Posture relaxes a bit, both unexpectedly disarmed and relieved. She looks down at the bar for a long moment, then opens it and takes a bite. Her stomach gives the softest of peals at the chance for sustenance. The girl purposefully but casually measures the pace a which she eats as not to communicate the true nature of her ravenous stomach.

Invictus nudges her to attention with a gentle but of great steel head against the back of her calf. She takes another relaxed bite of the bar while she listens. Tongue slides about her mouth, analyzing the taste for a second. She feels like she's tasted this somewhere before. An image of rows of candy bars behind Plexiglas jumps unbidden to the forefront of her conscience. Ah, she remembers, vending machine. The university had always stocked things like this, knowing that college kids like her would greedily buy them while studying, skipping meals for the bars instead. Small, almost nostalgic, smirk pulls upward the corner of her lip. The slightly-marred end crinkles, unable to fully pull due to the scar. Expression is short-lived; her features slowly sink back into neutral as the Ranger's spiel comes to a close.

She imagines that this is what it's like to be debriefed in the military or something. K'sariya nods, and to further show her compliance with the terms, reaches into the pack looped onto her belt and removes the crinkled flyer.

In a moment, she lowers it, head tilting ever-so-slightly to the side as she takes her turn to quietly scrutinize the Ranger. "Got a name?" she asks. Tone proves not unkind but also not overtly friendly. Something other than 'Ranger' to get the girl's attention if she's needed would be useful, at the very least.

The Ranger pauses mid-stride, taken aback by the renewed communication; a moment passes before she turns her head to make eye contact with K'sariya once more. "Sorry," she says, the word unfamiliar and rising to her lips unbidden. Hmm. "...Tella. Call me Tella."

As the younger woman speaks, she averts her gaze, as though uncomfortable connecting with someone so oddly... familiar... for longer than a second or two. The sounds of wildlife emanating from the trees surrounding the two Trainers— Ranger and visitor— grow deafening in the silence of a hundred thousand things unsaid; but perhaps both of them are happier without any of those words being spoken.

For lack of a better way to leave behind her thoughts than to move, the Ranger begins to walk down the hill towards the cave, which starts out appearing to be a mere hole in the cliffside. The cave entrance, however, yawns wider at a greater pace than mere proportion could explain, swiftly growing into a gaping maw: an oversized dragon's jawline ringed with stalactite and stalagmite teeth.

"Do you have a preferred name?" Tella finally says, in a perfectly even— too perfectly even— tone of voice, after a few seconds of reverie that felt to her like an eternity. "HQ transmitted K'sariya. Will that do?"

Tella. She notes down the calling, offering a small nod of acknowledgement in muted response. The younger woman looks away, but K'sariya's gaze is not so yielding. Earthen orbs remain rooted as she looks steadily at the others' eyes. Lashes flick down in a quick blink only when the other turns and continues to lead their trek. Invictus nudges her forward. Gaze softens.

K'sariya figures that she is somewhat at this individual's mercy. She gives the younger woman some points in the appeasement department as she draws a partially-crumpled piece of paper from her belt pouch. Calloused digits carefully but quickly unfold the flyer that she'd been instructed to read over while they walked. She gives it another look-over before folding it--much more carefully, this time--and replacing it in its storage. Reading it approximately fourteen times over had been one of her main mechanisms to ease her nervousness on the shuttle. It was likely she'd recite it in her sleep, now. But at least it was an effort to communicate that she was more cooperative than she looked, even if it was a bit of an half-assed one.

She turns attention now to what appears to be their destination coming into view in the distance. Brow quirks for a brief moment as she almost regrets having put Raigho away--she figures he'd have gotten a kick out of the look of the place.

Her Ranger dutifully breaks the silence with a returning question. Polite, comes her inward murmur of amusement. "Yeah, that'll do," she responds, her tone mirroring perfectly the even, unreadable planes of Tella's.

    "Understood."

Aside from that word, Tella makes no further conversation. As Ranger and Trainer draw closer to their destination, the strange optical illusion (or is it an illusion?) that made the cave look increasingly like a dragon's mouth begins to recede, and the deep blackness within the cavern turns out to have been mere perspective, masking the fact that the so-called cave is merely an indent into the cliff face. Into the shadowy indent is set a pristine stainless steel wall that disappears into the rock on either side, at the centre of which is a heavy-looking metal door with odd circuitry running across its surface.

The circuitry flickers to life, glowing a faint blue in the sunlight, as the two approach, and Tella steps forward to wave a key card in front of the door. After a moment, the colour of the circuitry shifts to green, and the door swings open to reveal a darkness that even a flashlight or Pokémon move would do nothing to penetrate, almost as though the blackness were a solid barrier.

Tella gestures for K'sariya to follow her, then walks through the doorway and disappears into the dark. Her Gallade, Lae, steps through swiftly after her, as though mistrusting the barrier that could separate him from his Trainer for even a second.

They are quiet, then, and K'sariya is inwardly relieved. Much of her time spent in silence has not been optional. There has simply been no one there but the stubborn growls of her own hunger and the dull drone of dryers quaking, unbalanced, against the other side of the wall. There was no awkwardness in this lack of conversation like there usually was if she actually got to talk to someone. It's... nice, though she is loathe to openly admit it.

Her ease is communicated well through her Pokemon, however. Invictus' shuffles grow longer in length as he drags his feet a little more, relaxed for the time being. His silver body sways side to side, plates clinking ever-so-slightly together as he moves. Quadruped posture straightens, however, as they near. The armored creature steps fearlessly forward. Great head inclines a bit so that glittering blue eyes can stare into the gaping maw.

Meanwhile, K'sariya cannot ward off the slight tilt of her own head to the side as she watches the illusion shift. What seemed like a beast of a cave seemed instead more like an indent. Invictus steps ahead, but she hesitates, watching with subdued curiosity at the activation of the door. Apprehension strikes her features as her Ranger vanishes into the pitch. When her metal companion does not skip a beat in advancing into the ink of the darkness, she then follows.

    Beginner RP — K'sariya Yeboah — Non-Battle Post #5

Following Tella, K'sariya feels everything drop away— every sensory impression, from the pleasant heat of the sun to the faint twitter of birdsong from the forest; even the feeling of standing on the ground— and it is all replaced with utter numbness, the sensation of floating in sensory deprivation for exactly five seconds.

Then, without warning, freezing cold air. The sound and sensation of blowing wind; crunching snow underfoot. Even the taste of ice— harsh and unforgiving— on the tongue with every breath. K'sariya, whose pale shorts, spaghetti-strap tank top and short jean jacket are little protection from the sudden sharp cold, can immediately feel her body's heat ripped away by snow up to her knees and a gale that screams over and through her like frozen knives. Visible in the clear, cloudless air is the entirety of a bare, uninhabited mountainside: snow lies thick on the ground all the way down to the evergreen-tree-covered foothills kilometres below, and above the two Trainers— not far above— is the peak of the mountain. In the distance, more mountaintops hide the horizon in all directions, an impossibly large mountain range with no end in sight.

"Crap!" Tella's voice, almost swallowed up by the roaring wind, seems somehow more human than previously, as though some veneer has fallen away from her personality in the sudden transition from safety and idyllic surroundings to a potentially deadly situation. "Mount Oktori? It's not supposed to turn into— not at this phase of the lunar— CRAP!!"

Without hesitation, Tella strips off her black polyester coat and all but throws it at her lightly clad charge, all the while cursing her own unpreparedness under her breath. A moment later, she's handing K'sariya her thick kevlar-lined pants, too, completely without regard for modesty, and kicking off her heavy combat boots to leave herself standing barefoot in only underwear, a white t-shirt, a bulletproof vest and a belt full of Poké Balls.

"Lae, make s-sure she gets th-those on," Tella says through chattering teeth.

Tella presses a button on her belt, releasing all five of her remaining Poké Balls from their clasps with a sharp click; almost offhandedly, she catches one as it pops out without missing a beat and returns it to its place. No time to open that can of Wurmples right now.

The balls return to full size and burst open mid-flight, and four of Tella's six Pokémon burst out in full crisis-control readiness to join her Gallade.

Blaziken; Poliwrath; Venomoth; and Machamp. Taking in the situation in a heartbeat, the four leap into action. Tella's Blaziken races over to a patch of rock where the snow is thin and bursts into flame, heating the stone and producing a snow-free area about four metres across. The Ranger's Venomoth flaps its way into the air, scattering silver dust that is instantly snatched away by the cold winds, and begins to project a barrier of energy that cuts the wind's bite in the short term. K'sariya— who by now has been "helped" into Tella's coat, heavy pants, and boots by Tella's very efficient Gallade— is scooped up in one of Machamp's four arms with surprising gentleness; then, with greater difficulty, the powerful Pokémon lifts Invictus with the other three hands. Then the Fighting-type proceeds to carry them both over to the warm area near the rocks, which are beginning to give off waves of life-giving heat.

Poliwrath starts spraying a torrent of water at the ground a short distance upwind; the water washes away some snow, but solidifies almost immediately upon contact with the freezing ground. Undaunted, Poliwrath continues, and slowly begins to build a bulwark of ice, like an igloo wall, to serve as a more permanent solution to the problem of the icy wind.

Tella, dressed in little more than undergarments and a bulletproof vest and still thigh-deep in the snow outside the heated area, somehow manages to remain standing, her fingertips and lips turning blue. Taking a deep breath that barely steams even in the freezing air, she closes her eyes and, ever so slowly, forces numbing limbs through what looks like a martial arts kata of some sort.

Then, after five or six painfully slow seconds of this, the Ranger opens her eyes, turns towards her
Poliwrath, and walks over to him with no trace of the cold impairing her movements. She begins to speak to the Pokémon, urging him on with quiet words of support while the other four continue their tasks: Blaze the Blaziken continues to heat the rocks in the middle of the campsite, which are beginning to glow a dull red with heat and have created a sizeable clearing with no snow atop the dark-coloured bedrock; Venn the Venomoth hovers and vibrates with increasing urgency as he struggles to hold the wind back with his Reflect technique; and the Fighting-types Champ and Lae proceed to set up what appears to be a defensive perimeter surrounding the makeshift campsite, in full crisis-control mode until the situation can be stabilized. This is Tella and her team in their element: a survival situation. No ambiguity, no subtlety, just the stark contrast between life and death and the myriad tasks that must be dealt with to ensure that everyone stays on the "life" side of that duality. And the Ranger uses her own mysterious powers to pull her weight in that struggle to survive.

Out of sheer serendipity, it seems like one more life has been preserved by all this scrambling work. Whatever shape K'sariya is in, she can't help but be aware that on the very edge of the snow-free zone that makes up the campsite, a small, curled-up figure with grey skin has been uncovered from where it was hidden beneath the snow-banks. The touch of warmth from Blaziken's continuing efforts seems to have revived the Machop from the brink of death— a very faint movement in its side indicates shallow breathing— but it's otherwise frozen to the point of being nearly comatose, and in no shape to fight.

Neither Tella nor any of the others seem aware of the Pokémon; it's up to K'sariya to react to its presence.

The darkness is all-enveloping, suffocating, and it is instant. In a split second, it feels as if the world has been snatched away. With a startled cry, she falls against Invictus, clutching the Lairon to her with white-knuckled grip and eyes trained on her scarred, metal hide--while she cannot feel him, the sight of dark skin pressed against the silver of his steel grounds her mind enough to keep her sane through the sudden shock.

And then it is not the numbness that is the problem. Icy blast erupts with screaming, howling wind from the darkness as they are thrust into the blinding white of a snowstorm. Her Pokemon's hide ices over nearly instantly. K'sariya yelps and stumbles back and away in a split second, knowing that hanging onto her beloved steel-rock companion would only kill her faster.

"What the fuck?" comes her incredulous shout as she turns dark orbs toward Tella, but she can't see. Hand flashes up to rub the heel of her palms into her eyes, freezing her eyelashes from the ice that has already instantly frozen onto them. Arm remains raised to shield her features. She sees the younger woman speaking, but the words are savagely torn from frosted lips the second that her guide tries to speak. But then actions begin to speak louder than words, and then Tella is stripping her garments from her form.

There is no time for modesty or bashfulness--K'sariya takes the clothes from her instantly, but frigid fingers struggle to function. "D-dammit," she chatters, but her frustration is short-lived; within seconds, the Ranger's Gallade has moved to aid her. Normally, being man-handled by a Pokemon wasn't something she was fond of, but this was cold like she'd never known before. Even in the nights spent in freezing cities, she'd still have the warmth of a building's interior seeping from dryer vents and slow-cooling asphalt. Even in the worst winters, she'd never felt anything like this.

With more appropriate clothes on and her body on the path to warming, head snaps back toward her Pokemon. "Invictus!" she cries, a strain of desperation quivering in her throat as she sees the ice that locks the steel creature in a freezing prison. At her yell, however, she sees pitch pupil swim through cerulean orbs, and then the beast gives a shudder, the sheets of ice falling away. He works with difficulty through the snow as she is swept gently up. The armored soldier gives a relieved quiver as he's raised above the harsh terrain. She buries her face into the fighting type's chest and tucks her fingers away in her armpits.

Bearings gathered, K'sariya spares a rapid glance around to see that the other Pokemon have been occupied while she'd been trying... well, not to die. As soon as she sees the Blaziken working to give them a source of warmth, a hand snaps down to her belt. She sweeps the snow off of her remaining ball. Raigho materializes near the Blaziken in a flash of red. Both heads give a startled hiss at the icy cold, but quickly realize that there is a source of warmth and begin to improve it. Dials lower and maws part to cast Flamethrower in unison to speed up the process of warming the rocks. Fire licks hungrily at the stones, assaulting in a steady stream, impatient to assuage their collective discomforts.

The Machamp carries K'sariya and Invictus near. Trainer keeps her a tad bit of distance, deterred by the intensity of the flames, but Invictus shuffles forward without hesitation. A natural fear glimmers in crystalline eyes. However, there is a trust there, also, that drives the brave Pokemon closer. Satisfied with the heat, and also noting the proximity of the only things the Zweilous may have cared about other than himself, Raigho snaps both maws shut and begins brooding near the flame.

K'sariya skitters forward as close as she can stand. She's not near close enough to be burned, but even the slightest of heat on her frigid limbs and face is enough to absolutely sear. Vulnerably, the woman chatters, curling her knees to her chest. Form rocks slowly back and forth. She watches Tella's odd motions but has not regained enough of her calm to offer help. Instead, she puts blind trust into the Ranger, giving her the benefit of the doubt that she knows what she's doing. Gaze loses focus. She stares a bit mindlessly into the soft, molten glow of the rocks.

Invictus stirs her from her trance with a nudge. K'sariya blinks rapidly, glancing down at her to see the steel warrior turning and waddling a few steps away. Pupils follow the Lairon's path of sight... and she cannot stifle her minuscule gasp as she sees it.

She unfurls from her fetal curl and crawls ever-so-slowly across the stone. The blue-grey humanoid doesn't seem to be alive, at first, but as she follows the line of its body from its three golden crests and down to its tail, she spies the minute shifting of the beast's sides. Invictus moves forward without hesitance, but waits for her a foot or two away, regarding the creature with careful--but notably fearless--eyes.

As she notes the weakened state of the Pokemon, she quickly moves to return Raigho to his ball. The over-z(weil)ous? dragon had a knack for... finishing things off against K'sariya's will, sometimes. Hand reaches out to rest on the horns that line her metal companion's spine, less to comfort the Pokemon and more to make sure that she was properly grounded to reality and not hallucinating things.

"Hey," she breathes gently in the Machop's direction. She's certain to not get too close just yet. She knows what it feels like to feel cornered, to feel caged. "You alright?"

The frozen Machop twitches, as though responding to the sound of K'sariya's voice, but nothing further happens; the Fighting-type is either unconscious, or so frozen that even its tough little body was rendered motionless... Except for that one twitch; the continuing shallow breaths; and— if K'sariya were to get close enough to touch the cold skin of the Machop's chest or throat— the steady, stubborn beat of a heart that refused to quit, even when the very blood running through it was cold.

One thing is for sure: the Pokémon needs urgent attention. Heat, most of all, to keep the Machop from crossing the threshold at which its very blood would be too cold to sustain life functions; medical treatment of some kind for the frostbite that might set in despite the hardy resistance the Machop has shown so far; and food, to fuel recovery.

Tella, still wearing little clothing and still apparently unaffected by the fact that her lips are blue and she is walking barefoot in the snow, is just now striding into the ring of warmth that surrounds the rocks. She has withdrawn a long-range radio from her pack, and is swiftly and methodically tuning it to one channel after another as she walks, transmitting the same call for assistance on each channel and receiving nothing in return. Occupied with the urgent business of trying to get through to Ranger HQ, she doesn't seem to have noticed the Machop's plight; but she is headed in K'sariya's direction, clearly intending to check in on her charge's well-being.

The poor creature barely twitches. She's not even sure if it realizes she's there at all. K'sariya bites her lower lip at the sudden weight of responsibility put on her here. While she's scared to take a misstep that might end this Pokemon's life, her pride keeps her from calling for help. So after her own moment of hesitation, mind clicks into action.

"Invictus, by the fire. Get warm," she orders softly, heaving her weight up to balance on the balls of her feet in a crouch. Blue orbs fix upon her for a moment before the great steel beast gives a firm nod. Sturdy legs shuffle the Lairon to the fire. She nears it as much as she dares, lingering on one side for as long as she can stand the heat before moving to shift and face the fire with the other. While it would take a few seconds longer than if she summoned Raigho for a gentle Flamethrower to the side of the Machop, it removed the risk of her Zweilous getting over-excited and accidentally killing the poor thing.

Meanwhile, K'sariya rummages through her bag. Park Balls, Poke Doll... Energy Powder? No, the bitterness might make the poor thing unfriendly, and it would give it the strength to fight back if that same foul taste made it angry. She pushes away the park pamphlet and then sees her solution. Lava Cookie!

She snatches the sealed package hastily from her pouch. Fingers, now a bit more warm, deftly rip the soft plastic at the jagged edge and remove the mottled brown cookie from the package. With her conductive hide now well-warmed by the heat, Invictus quickly shambles back over. Air huffs in and out of her companion's nostril pits as she sniffs curiously at the medicine, but K'sariya quickly pushes her Pokemon forward.

"Iron Defense in case it startles him. Try to get him warm enough to eat this." Her voice echoes softly inside their makeshift igloo. A gentle, crystalline light speeds suddenly across plated body in a firm outline. Scarred hide shines dimly as she steels herself for a potentially poor situation. Then, she makes her way forward, dropping even lower and moving her hips so that she can try to press the full side of her body against the male Machop's frigid being.

K'sariya's crouching form seeks to slide its way to the Machop's left as Invictus prepares herself and steps forward. Nervous, features contort into a hopeful but wary wince as she extends the Lava Cookie toward the Machop's features, trying to hover it right in front of the wild Pokemon's mouth and nose. Hopefully, he would either smell it, or come to and see it. And hopefully, he wouldn't be too angry.

After a solid minute wherein K'sariya sees no change, the Machop's eyes flicker open ever so slightly. The metal plates and rocky armour of Invictus's hide, both pleasantly warmed by the fire, are conducting heat slowly but steadily into the half-frozen Pokémon's body; Machop seems to have regained consciousness, but he's very weak. As the Machop's limbs begin to warm and circulation is restored, beads of blood begin to well up on his right shoulder and all across the palm of his left hand, where he has abrasions from stumbling in the storm. On the tips of the Pokémon's fingers and toes, too, frostbite seems to have left its mark, though nothing irreversible.

With a desperation that only one who has been a few scraps away from starvation would understand— and which K'sariya understands all too well— the Machop strains his neck upwards to take a sudden, violent bite out of the lava cookie, then curls up in a defensive ball to prevent anyone from taking his mouthful of food away. For a few more seconds, there's only the sound of frantic chewing, and K'sariya can see frost-numbed muscles relaxing from their rock-hard state, with Machop beginning to tentatively move his limbs.

It's at that moment that Tella arrives, walking up briskly from behind K'sariya. "Trainer, please tell me you're all r—"

She stops abruptly, having gotten close enough that she can see the Machop over K'sariya's head. Machop has turned, still mostly curled up, to stare at Tella like a Stantler caught in the headlights.

"Oh..." With barely another glance at K'sariya, Tella kneels down and shuffles around the other woman on her knees, ignoring the visibly raw skin appearing where the rough stone scrapes her bare legs. "You've had a hard outing, haven't you...?" she asks gently, apparently talking to the Machop, and approaching with empty hands held out ever so slightly in a nonthreatening posture. K'sariya, if she were looking closely, might see one of Tella's hands making some kind of gesture, almost as though she were turning a doorknob or a dial.

Machop, surprisingly enough, looks confused but not afraid. The aura of !!danger!! that surrounded this strange two-legged Pokémon when he first glimpsed her was gone— for now, at least— and he's sure she means him no harm (though he has no idea why he is so certain.)

"Let me have a look?" Tella asks Invictus, who is looming over the Machop protectively. When the Lairon shifts, Tella moves in and shifts the Machop so he's resting up against her folded legs, almost in her lap. "Here. This might sting, but it'll help in the long run."

As she speaks, Tella draws a bottle of aerosol-spray Potion from her bag— Trainers aren't allowed bringing manmade items into the Park, requiring herbal medicines to be used instead, but Rangers carry exceptions for emergencies— and sprays it along the Machop's injured hand and shoulder. The bleeding stops instantly, prevented by the spray-bandage properties of the Potion; and Machop stiffens and falls into a fitful, half-conscious state as the medicinal properties of the spray kick in and nearly knock the little Fighting-type out cold.

"Potions draw heavily on the body's strength to heal wounds quickly," Tella murmurs as she reaches back to her pack and withdraws a first-aid kit from a quick-access zipper on the side of the bag. "They're a painkiller and a temporary patch, best used to prevent exsanguination or keep a hurt Pokémon in fighting shape. They make a healthy Pokémon tired with repeated use, and a tired Pokémon exhausted. Any more than patching those wounds, and this Machop would be in danger of dying from system strain."

Continuing to talk in a quiet, calming murmur— a tone apparently meant more for the benefit of the half-unconscious Machop than for K'sariya— Tella takes a roll of bandages out of the first-aid kit, cuts some off with a pair of scissors (also from the kit,) and wraps the linens expertly around the Machop's injuries. "If you're certain you want to do this, he'll need food, warmth, and someone to watch over him. Lae and Champ can serve as sentries for the campsite as a whole, but we'll need a third to watch the Machop specifically: keep him warm, make sure he doesn't try to go it alone if he wakes up, and serve to catch anything that the other two miss..."

She pulls her backpack off and digs right to the bottom of it. "Wrath and Venn can't be sentries, too— they'll have their hands full keeping the weather off him until we have a semi-permanent ice shelter, since I don't know how long we'll be out here. Or, I suppose I should say 'in' here. The Ruins are fickle."

With Machop bandaged and partially wrapped in what appears to be a thin but heavy fire blanket, Tella shifts the unconscious Pokémon off of her lap and heaves a great sigh. "That means that one of your Pokémon will have to stay here for now. It also means that you and I, and one of your Pokémon, have to go find us food. Out there."

She looks out into the snowstorm.

"I will die if I go alone, so I'm not going unless I have backup," she says bluntly. "And in a place like this, there's no guarantee that any of us will come back. You and I could survive off of nutrition bars until help comes or the Ruins release us, and be perfectly safe... But if we do, that Pokémon will die. Are you with me, K'sariya?"

Heart fights to escape from the confines of her chest as she waits. Anxiety swirls and knots darkly in her gut up until the very moment she sees a flicker of movement in the pale blue creature's eyes. Tension eases from her form when scarlet orbs show a more solid sign of life. But she knows the battle isn't over yet--the cold could have already taken a fatal toll on something within, or he risked dying of shock that may set in soon.

The Machop gives a solid kick for life, however, in a violent flurry of movement. Head shoots toward her offered medicine to take a snapping chomp out of the Lava Cookie. K'sariya gives the tiniest of flinches, still wary. A wounded animal was always the most dangerous, but fortune is with her today, as the Pokemon does not seek a fight. Instead, he curls into a defensive ball. Crooked smirk crosses her features ever-so-slightly. She remembers the nights spent curled up in the cold and clutching her last scraps of food. There is no room for humans in K'sariya's heart anymore, but in that moment, the space left for Pokemon widens a little to nestle the Machop within its embrace.

Familiar voice comes from behind her and she stifles the beginnings of a jump. She'd almost completely forgotten Tella's presence. Eyes flash to her and brows knit with incredulity at the fact that the Ranger still had not procured clothing. How the woman was still functional was absolutely beyond K'sariya. The Trainer attempts to smooth the confusion from her brow, however, as Tella drops to her knees to join her.

She shuffles back as the other begins to talk. Dark eyes watch carefully as the younger woman extends empty palms. Pupils catch the subtle turning movement of Tella's hands but doesn't think much of it--that is, until, the Machop's alarm relaxes almost completely. Head tilts minutely to the side with puzzlement at this but the motions are so brief, so minuscule, that she nearly convinces herself that she'd imagined it.

Her Lairon a bit reluctantly trundles out of the way. Attention follows Tella as she brings the wounded creature into her lap. K'sariya sits in quiet, hidden awe at the ease in which the woman handles a wild Pokemon so fearlessly. Yes, it was weakened, but the superpower strength that adrenaline offered both people and Pokemon was something that K'sariya would never underestimate. She swallows hard, then reaches up to gently rub at the itch the second set of scars upon her cheek generate.

K'sariya continues to observe as the Ranger procures a Potion. Others might view the exception for Rangers in emergencies a bit unfair but it didn't matter too much to the woman--even if they were allowed to bring man-made healing remedies, it was unlikely K'sariya would be able to afford them. She watches, quietly, even as Tella launches into a narrative explanation of the remedy. Normally, she interjects when someone explains something to her that she already knows, but the fact that her survival is in the Ranger's hands keeps her from a brusque interruption. Instead, she saves it for the end.

"Taught us that in college," she notes quietly as the raven-locked individual begins bandaging the injured Machop, K'sariya's gentle tone matching her guide's as Tella's initial spiel comes to a close.

There's a shift in tone, then, one that commands the full brunt of K'sariya's attention. Earthen eyes seek chilled blue as she listens in silence. Was she willing to risk everything just to save this pitifully weakened life? She looks to Invictus, who gazes at her steadily with oceanic optics. Hand reaches out to scratch the ashen rock behind the Lairon's crested steel skull. A low, metallic croon reverberates in the shadowed holes upon his plates.

For a moment, that sound nearly kicks in gear enough of a self-preservation instinct that she refuses, almost tells Invictus to find a proper place to bury him. The thought of the only two creatures in the world who cared for her being expelled from the Ruins alone, lost, with potentially no one who would take them almost drives her to huddle in their enclosure until an enigma delivers them from the mountain. But then she looks back to the Machop, still with frosted skin here and there, and remembers the ravenous bite it had taken of her offered medicine, and she wishes that someone had risked their life for her when she'd been cold, alone, and helpless.

And so she stands, muscles stiffened by her prolonged crawl and crouch, and gives a lengthy, luxurious stretch. "Alright," she says, tone dead even. She bends over to scratch Invictus in her favorite spot again. "You stay with him," she murmurs beneath her breath. Hand withdraws to unclip the open Pokeball from its makeshift holster in her belt. The lanky woman sets it beside her companion. The Lairon tilts her head upward to gaze quietly at her. "And if anything happens, anything at all, you get into this ball, and you don't come out until someone finds you. No matter how long that takes, you hear?" She waits until a small, metallic echo rings from depths of hardy throat.

She straightens, turns back to Tella. Arms cross as she looks at the Ranger apprehensively, a single brow quirked upward. "And what about you? Raigho can keep us warm and melt a path through the snow, but you'll freeze out there in that, won't you?" she inquires dubiously. Already, she thought she would have frozen, but the woman was either lucky or apparently a goddamn god at this point.

In response to K'sariya's query about Tella's well-being, the Ranger shakes her head. "I've taken care of it. I was born with certain talents, then raised by a Gallade who taught me how to use them. I can control my body's functions."

Tella, never the type to waste time while talking, has already closed and stored the first aid kit, rearranged the contents of her pack to be more easily accessible, and is swinging it on while she speaks. "I'll collapse later, when I can afford to, but as long as I don't run out of power I can keep my body just barely as warm as it needs to be and ignore the numbing effects of the cold. There'll be no permanent consequences as long as I don't lose consciousness while out there."

Tella stands up, and starts walking out of the warm camp area into the driving hail and sleet. "That's why I need you and Raigho. Doing this takes focus; I can't fight and keep myself alive at the same time. If we encounter any trouble, or find food that's guarded by something, it's up to the two of you."

K'sariya gazes at Tella for a moment. If she hadn't just seen the woman do it, she wouldn't have believed it. Features remain flat, with only a hint of contemplative notion, before she gives a nod of confirmation. While the Ranger tidies her things and continues to speak, K'sariya clicks the button on her ball. The Zweilous snaps to existence in a flicker of red light. His pair of heads swings about, taking in its surroundings through midnight locks. Blue dragon spies the Machop and steps toward it, one head giving a curious click of the teeth. Invictus, however, steps forward and gives a commanding snort. Raigho gives a small hiss and makes his way back to his Trainer, one head swaying as it fixes the Lairon with a grudging stare over its shoulder.

The woman is used to their bickering--it never lasted long. Her responsibilities are given to her and she offers a determined dip of her head. "Got it." She hovers at the edge of their sanctuary, apprehensive as she stares out into the driving wintry mix. Hand sweeps up to draw the coat's hood about her features. It'll keep her warm, but it won't do much against the hail, that's for sure.

"Raigho," she says firmly. The solid strike of her tone causes both heads to give her their full attention. "I'm going to need you to Flamethrower into the wind as we walk. We have to keep that hail off of us, and off of you." The Pokemon stares for a moment, then gives a solid up and down shake of its two heads in unison. The Zweilous pushes his way hastily past Tella and steps a bit away from them, into the wind. Leftward maw gapes and raises slightly skyward.

Flame streams from between slightly-yellowed ivories, crimson and auburn swirling upwards in the wind. Ice and snow melts to chilled rain as it hits them, hitting their skin and clothing just soon enough before it can freeze again. She steps out quickly after Tella.

"Let's hurry, he won't be able to keep that up for too long. Are there more rocks that can protect us?" she shouts over the howl of the wind, sticking as close as possible to the Ranger. Getting around to the complete other side of the mountain was far-fetched, but perhaps there would be a few alcoves or outcroppings here and there that could give them brief relief from the hail.

Tella yells something, but the roaring wind snatches it away. Realizing that communication by words is nigh impossible without being right next to K'sariya, the Ranger waves broadly for K'sariya to follow her.

Raigho's two heads are taking turns blowing fire into the teeth of the wind, and the Dragon-type's raw force is keeping the elements at bay... at least for now.

Within a minute of slogging through the deep snow, a rocky outcropping appears, perhaps thirty more seconds' trek away. Tella makes straight for it; the Ranger is almost there, with K'sariya only twenty seconds behind, when a small figure bursts out of the snow directly between K'sariya and Tella, sending up a plume of icy powder that hides the Ranger from K'sariya's sight momentarily before being whisked away by the driving wind.

Standing in Zweilous and K'sariya's path is a small pink creature with blonde hair and large puckered lips.

    "Smooch!"

The Smoochum races forward across the snow, not even breaking the surface, intent on investigating these newcomers with her lips (as its species is wont to do) and completely unaware (or uncaring) of the danger that Raigho could pose to her. But if Raigho is distracted, even slightly, K'sariya and Raigho's protection from the elements will cease! The little wild Pokémon is clearly not aware that her curiosity could have serious repercussions; either for K'sariya and Raigho or, more likely, for herself.

Tella's words are snatched away by the wind, but K'sariya follows regardless. They trudge through the snow, her pace slowed to ensure that Raigho does not lose her in the whiteout. Heads alternate their spitting of flame, the other constantly watching to ensure that they follow in the correct direction. The woman spies the outcropping a few moments after Tella, hand raising to shield her eyes as she squints to make out the shape. The Ranger rushes ahead and the Trainer doesn't mind--her guide would make sure that the shelter was safe.

A chubby form, however, bursts out between them in a spray of frosty alabaster. Straw-colored locks billow wildly in the wind, locks matting wetly in spots near the Pokemon's wide eyes and exaggerated lips. A biting "fuck," snaps from K'sariya's throat as she sees the rosy humanoid begin to sprint across the snow towards her with deceptive speed. K'sariya stops in her tracks, staggering to a brief halt as she rapidly considers her options.

Intently-watching head spies the plume of snow and a new opponent. Raigho acts impatiently for her. The Zweilous charges in front of his Trainer without warning, dropping its veil of fire. K'sariya gives a small but sharp cry at the hail that pelts her jacket and pants, one arm raising to shield the side of her face from the beating. She squints at the dismal shelter, then makes her decision.

"Stay between us!" she commands sharply, moving to try and make a made dash to the right of their opponent and toward the shelter in a escape attempt. One arm remains defensively at her face while the other swings back and forth as she tries to keep her balance in the snow. Eyes remained trained on her goal, confident in her Pokemon's abilities and trying to stay on target.

Raigho obeys, moving to try to charge the Smoochum. His Flamethrower bursts forward from one maw with renewed, unchecked ferocity and in a steady stream as he tries to shuffle to the right after his Trainer, always trying to put himself between the nuisance and his master to try to aid her escape. His free head snaps at any hail that comes toward the fire-spitting skull as the ice comes down, trying to minimize the damage and the distraction of the wintry weather.

K'sariya's quick thinking allows Raigho to get in between her and the wild Pokémon just in time. The Smoochum, who had been entirely focused on K'sariya since she had been closer until just now, skidded to a halt amidst the snow... and then switched targets, finding the dragon equally new and interesting!

(Escape attempt, with improved odds for post quality and use of Flamethrower: still failed!)

The little Pokémon, whether by luck or just because Raigho was tired from holding back the weather, races forward again just in time to evade Raigho's fiery attack, which whooshes down into the snow behind her. Apparently still not realizing she's even under attack, Smoochum jumps right onto Raigho's back, her little form dwarfed by the dragon's.

Smoochum, as a species, generally prefer to investigate their surroundings first with their sensitive lips; this one is no exception! Raigho, aggressive as ever and expecting an attack, is utterly flummoxed by the sensation of a sweet, gentle kiss being planted on one, then the other of his necks by Smoochum's icy-cold lips.

He's not about to just let this go, however. An enemy is an enemy! Reflexively and without any hesitation, Raigho snaps at Smoochum with first one, then the other head, narrowly missing colliding the two heads or biting his own body. One head misses, but the other strikes true, teeth clamping down on Smoochum's body and almost achieving a death-grip before the startled little Ice-type has a chance to yank herself out of Raigho's jaws.

"Eek!" Smoochum squeaks, and runs to hide behind one of Raigho's necks, preventing one of Raigho's heads from reaching her and necessitating some careful maneuvering for Raigho's other head to avoid biting his own neck.

Meanwhile, K'sariya has gotten past the scuffle and is almost at the sheltering outcropping where Tella is standing waiting for her. The whole time, the icy storm has been pelting Raigho and K'sariya alike; the same harsh elements bounce harmlessly off of Smoochum's thick hair, which seems to double as a sort of springy umbrella.

Evaded attack misses, blasting down into the snow where the Smoochum had been standing. It quickly shreds away down to the rock, with the tunnel-visioned creature not even realizing its opponent had evaded until it feels the pressure upon its back. Gentle kisses grace draconian flesh and a chill not inflicted by the weather runs down his spine. The confused dragon snaps with both jaws at its infuriating opponent, nearly delivering more scars onto his form--though if they were honest, what would one more raw wound be to the myriad of others he'd already given himself? Nonetheless, he tries to fight to the haze, trying to prevent from hurting himself.

Once he has a grip, he crunches down with as much force as he can muster. The pest, however, still manages to work her way free. He gives a roar as his evasive quarry attempts to hide behind one of his necks. His confusion causes him to nearly stumble in his biting frenzy. He fights for enough clarity to give up on a physical endeavor. Instead, his rage fuels a different kind of assault. Heads lower, wincing against the hail as a soft, seafoam glow washes over the entirety of his dark form. Raigho attempts to fight through his confusion, trying to push the Dragon Pulse out in repelling, sea-green waves of energy to try to force the Smoochum out of its hiding place at his body.

K'sariya struggles toward the outcropping. Legs burn with the effort, labored breathing freezing moisture upon her features. Frozen eyelashes blink away the snow rapidly, trying to keep her wits about her as she sloughs through the difficult terrain. Finally, once she's nearly made it, she risks a glance behind her. She can barely see the dark silhouette of Raigho battling through the snow. K'sariya turns back toward the rock, continuing to work her way forward.
