URPG has just set up an official YouTube page! ...ok so maybe "set up" is not the right phrase. What we actually have, is a YouTube page with the title of "URPG".

So, to start, why do we suddenly have a YouTube page? Well, as many Pokemon-fans probably know already, most of the most influential members of the Pokemon community are "PokeTubers" (YouTubers who upload large amounts of Pokemon-related content.) You've probably heard of at least a few of them such as GlitchXCity, TheNationalDex, TamashiiHiroka, Chugaaconroy, Shofu, TheJ-Wittz and more. Having an official URPG account on YouTube could allow us, too, to make a bigger name for ourselves in the Pokemon community which would attract a lot of new members and really put the name of URPG on the proverbial PokeMap.

Now, like I said before, the page is pretty blank so far. Actually, it's fully blank. We just have a name. However, I think it has a lot of potential, and with some good ideas and some work and effort, we can make a really successful account! Here's a list of some of the primary things we need to get URPG's account going:

    • Profile Picture What should represent us?
    • Banner Something to draw attention to our channel
    • Background " "
    • Channel Trailer This is a cool feature where we explain what our channel's all about. We could do some really creative things here. The point is for it have a good hook that will draw people in.
    • Slogan I think there was a thread for this somewhere, but I actually don't know what we finally decided on. Something catchy would be nice!!
    • Icon This appears under all of our videos. Pretty similar to Profile Picture, but much smaller. It might even be the same thing, idk. Technology is an enigma.

And here is what we can do to build up this channel!

    • Subscribe! Make our channel popular!!!1!1!!one1!one!!! No but, seriously, this is the whole point.
    • Content? What should our videos be about? Doesn't have to be URPG related, but can be. The point is the advertising for it which would be done through the channel itself and at the end of our videos. The videos themselves could be anything! LPs, Top 10s, URPG Singalongs, Voice-overs...the sky is the limit! Suggest it, and we'll try to make it a reality. (Obviously PG-13.
    • Actors We of course need people in the videos, whether they're just lending their voice talents, offering commentary on the games/anime, or even video blogs and having our faces actually show up on camera. I know Monbrey's voice alone will give us at least an influx of 50 female members on day 1, but he can't do all the work! Show us what you got and work it for the camera!!
    • Editors, Reviewers, Designers, Janitors!! Of course we need these! If you aren't comfortable going on camera, that's absolutely fine, but we still need people to help design, and maintain the channel as well as edit the videos themselves! We don't want random people talking to a camera. We need that pizzaz that will attract attention!

And there you have it! This will be a huge undertaking, but I think we can do it if we put forth the right amount of effort and commit to it! We need lots of suggestions and feedback for the points made above, so fire away. Jokes are fine, but let's try to focus so this doesn't end up like some of our...other...threads.

Could make URPG Newscast or something as the successor to URPG Times even though it'll just die out 2 casts later

I think a newscast is a great idea, we could write up a script and see where it goes.

Literally, we could do anything cats included as long as we relate it to Pokemon. Cats playing Pokemon? idk, if you can make it work do it. (meow)

Any ideas for what to use as channel artwork? We gotta make it look pretty before we start making videos, methinks.

If everyone agrees to it being uploaded that's cool, though I question how many outside people are going to subscribe to a bunch of nerds staring at each other :p

This is a great idea! That would be our "Channel Trailer" as it were. We just need a few members to talk about URPG and what it is as well as what kinds of content we hope to upload in the future.

I think banners are a solid idea. We could hold another mini-contest just for YouTube Banner, and/or Profile picture artwork if people think that's appropriate. We'll see where it goes!

We should also start working out how we wanna actually edit the videos. Sound effects, images popping up at appropriate times, when footage is played, and cleaning up voices etc are things we need to make our videos good quality. Is anyone able to do these kinds of things/knows someone who is?

I like the idea of having a separate art contest thingy for the banners, profile pictures, etc. The introduction to the URPG would be good for the trailer. It requires we think of a list of stuff we want to put that truly says what the URPG is about.

I like the listed things for content, maybe also do "advice" videos about aspects of the URPG, like good battle strategies, writing tips, how to not fail at RPing, etc.

I also might, keyword might, be able to help with voicing stuff.

Once we actually get this up and going we should focus on networking also. It is important to get the name of the channel out there. But we need to get off of the ground first.

Very much agree. Maybe I should make a few separate threads for various aspects of the channel, just so our ideas are organized and not all jumbled in one place.

Let's record live tournaments or FFAs on AIM or Skype. How about if we record our own videos and send it to you guys to use a videos. We could make videos about contests, festivals, gym battles. The Sky's the Limit!

Recording URPG battles etc was discussed, but I really don't see why anybody is going to bother watching that.

I can see why someone would want to watch a Tournament Final or E4 battle, but that's about it tbh.

Maybe some kinda intro video about the things in URPG that are different to the games eg. Movepools & FFAs etc.

I think the problem is that most people who aren't URPG members wouldn't be super excited by watching a plain-text battle. We could take some of the more intense ones (like Elite Four battles) and attempt to either recreate them on a simulator (at least approximately) or attempt to make an animation of them. Of course we would have to do something to make sure that people wouldn't be disappointed when they saw how URPG battling actually looks.

Strategy guides, top 10s relating to URPG (moves, Pokémon, veterans (with things about them that people who never met them would understand like their accomplishments, strategies, signature Pokémon, etc.), etc.), and other things that relate to URPG but which are understandable by anyone in the broader Pokémon fanbase is good. I might be able to help with some such things.

I'm not saying we shouldn't record those, but the only people who would watch that are already in the URPG.

I can't imagine a 4 hour long recording of an AIM chat is going to be a good recruitment tool :p

    How about tutorials?

Reffing Battles, and How The Calc Works
Battle Types and Clauses, and Why You'd Even Want To Use Them
Standard Battle Protocol ((Setting up battles and explaining how each type works. This might include things I can't find on the forums, like how to challenge a gym leader or where to find information regarding that))
    The Referee's Rulebook
    The Ranger's Guide
    The Grader's Rubric
The Curator's Tome ((or... well, whatever. These each would explain how to become the thing, and how to do the job properly-- updated video versions of the guides already floating around the forums))
How To Get Started In URPG ((Including explaining those frustrating things like, how to buy Tutor Moves, even though they're not actually listed in the PokeMart.))
How to Get Started in the National Park ((including all the different runs and tips on how to not die immediately))

You could possibly give bribes to URPGers who score the videos-- light background music to fill the empty space, and pokemon related, of course.
You could have dramatic readings of Stories posted on the forums (with the authors' permissions, of course).
You could have those aforementioned contests for banner art, as well as intro art and heck, even in-video graphics, if need be.

Plus all the funner stuff like Thoughts On Choosing an Interesting Starter, and Announcements featuring upcoming contests and events. Oh, that reminds me!

Contests: Explained! I'm not certain anybody knows how they work right now. (though that's ok, as iirc you're repairing the old system to make it something people actually want to do again.)

If you want to draw people in, you need, need, need to help people understand how to get started. URPG is cluttered and disorganized, at least a bit, and that's to be expected, as it spans across at least three forums (and probably more), at least three major chat clients in its time, and has been going on for years and years and years. I'm not going to spite you for the disorganization. But for someone like me-- practically a newcomer-- there are a lot of things that don't make sense and I have to intuit, or information that I found while idly browsing but when it comes time to actually use it, I can't, for the life of me, find it again.

So... yeah. To include more people, strive to be more inclusive.

    [EDIT]
And stay tuned for my next video,
...How To Get Banned from URPG.
