    PLEASE EXCUSE THE NARRATIVE.

The URPG is comprised of many talented individuals. Some of us are brilliant tacticians, able to wipe out entire teams in only a few moves. Others are story tellers who craft epics that rival the novellas of Steinbeck and Hemingway. Still others are best at role playing, taking on new personas like we might put on a hat. Several are amazing coordinators who can use moves and Pokemon in ways that not even the Elite 4 can. More than a few are artists, either of traditional mediums or through designing software. But why do we compete? The story is as old as the URPG itself.

In the beginning, there was White Rider, and White Rider was with URPG, and White Rider was URPG. One day, in the time of White Rider's rule, the gods themselves descended from the heavens. "There are many among you," Zeus decreed, "but only one of you can be the best, like no one ever was."

"To please us," Ra added, "you must fight each other, to find out who is the strongest among you."

Cthulu made a sound suspiciously like Zoidberg, but more frightening, "WUWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWU!"

'How do we select the champions, the greatest of the greats, the best among URPGers?' the Old Ones asked.

    THE URPG OLYMPICS-Summer of 2012
    [IMG]

Contestants will form teams ranging from a minimum of three to seven members. These teams will have to register in a sign-up thread at least 24 hours before the start of the games. The actual events will take place as following:

Battling: A tourney specifically for this event will be set up. For every player a person beats, a certain amount of points will be awarded (factors affecting amount of points to be determined). At the end, those points are added to their team score.

Stories: A knock-out style writing competition. There will be several rounds, the amount determined by how many stories are entered. It will involve a kind of play-off competition where two stories are voted on every day (picked at random) to decide which is the very best.

Role Playing: There can be a park event based around how many Pokemon can be caught in a set amount of time. Judges for the event can give extra points for creativity or dock them for lack of effort.

Contests: A contest tourney will be set up, with points awarded depending on how one scores in the different kinds of contests (R/S/E, D/P/Pt, and B/W)

Art: Because the rt category is so new, the competition for this section is TBA, but will likely be similar to the stories competition.

To sign up for an event, one must be a member of a team. You can't participate in an event without signing up (to prevent, for example, people in the battle tourney from challenging newbies and beating them over and over). Once the games have started, it is impossible to sign up for new events.

At the end of the games, points will be tallied up for each event, and handed out to each team. Additional points will be given out for various achievements (like the person who completes the most battles, etc) The team with the most points wins bragging rights, money and possibly a Pokemon of rank to be determined, for each member. Individual prizes will be handed out as well (such as most points earned, etc).

The suggested length of the games will be one month, set some time during the summer of 2012.

/CP'd from Tourney thread. SO YEAH. We'd need people from each section to run events, preferably heads or at least senior profession member thingies. I GUESS IF YOU ALL HAVE IDEAS OR WANT TO HELP, YOU CAN DO IT HERE. :D

Nah, I have a solution for that. See, the goal for each team is to get the most points possible. Here's my suggestion to keep the tournaments in the time range for the Olympics (which would be all summer, we're not exactly short on time)

Battle Tourney: Run it the entire three months and assign points for different kinds of battles. Whoever has the most points when it's done wins and gets bonus points for their team, along with a Pokemon possibly. Nothing big, because there'd be prizes for the games as a whole too. If there's a tie at the end, then we have one championship battle to decide. That way it won't go way over.

Story Competition: Have a knockout style comp. Keep a strict writing period without extensions then instead of having rounds with lots of stories, have 3 day rounds with two stories that are randomly rolled to compete. That way people only have to read two stories at once.

Park Competition: No idea, my guess would be a capture contest of some kind. If any Park people have any ideas, be my guest.

Contest Competition: Contest version of the battle one.

Art Competition: Art version of the story one.

These are just ideas, btw, one person from each section would run the event for their section and I'd have to talk to them about it. So, uh, anybody want to run stuff? (If we're cool with this. ARE WE COOL WITH THIS?)

We always say no extensions, but there are always exceptions.

Besides, Stories take 3 months to be graded, unless they are Simple Ranked. Why should I write in the Story Section to earn Points, when the Battling Section is quickest.

    So....

Why don't we just have all the tourneys and competitions we have throughout the year and combine them and call them the "URPG olympics"?

It'd be too much if we add it on, people would get bored, inactivity happens, we'd be waiting a LONG time.

    So

    No

I can tell you for a fact that us Parkers can host a Capture Contest that will end within a month. My main concern with this idea is that Stories take like a month to get graded as it is, so if thirty or so suddenly get submitted there's very little chance they'll be graded in time for any kind of judging. Battles and Contests aren't much better - there's like three tournaments in the last two years that HAVEN'T gone over-time.

Still, if you really want to give this a shot, I'm more than happy to talk Park stuff with ya :)

I agree that the length would be an issue, which is why I'd have the battle and contest tourneys be within a specific time range and be about getting points within that range, so we don't have to worry about people finishing battles. As for stories, I've never understood the rule that they have to be graded before the beginning of the competition... If they're bad enough that they won't pass for any of the Pokemon they're writing for, then no one's going to vote for them :X

Still, I can see the problems that this might have with length and activity. Plus, yeah, we'll probably have WAR coming up. If I have people from each section who want to do it though, I'd be willing to try. If not, maybe we could do this someday, eventually ;D

If the time issues get ironed out, I'll be glad to help.

Well, if you guys want to do this, Chainy told me he'd help with the park stuff.

Are there any section heads or senior position members from Battles, Stories, Contests, or Art that want to help out? (If need be I can host Stories, but I'd rather not since someone has to keep all of them events organized... yeah)

    EDIT:

Chainy's agreed to do a Park event and ATF has agreed to do a contest event. I can host stories. Does anyone want to host a tourney or art comp?

I just don't understand why you can't wait for the WAR to start on Pe2k.

It's the same concept entirely, only difference is that we're going to limit it to urpgers only..

I agree with this. The idea is good for URPG people but WAR has almost all of the components of the proposed Olympics. Battling = URPG section; Stories = Fan Fiction section; Park = Role Play Section; Contests = ???? (couldn't find a close substitute); Art = spriting and fanart section.

Too small of a competition on too grand of a scale. Nothing gets done around here anyway. Next idea pl0x.

I think that this sounds pretty good, as I've never really been in a tourney.

I'll host the battle section if I need to although there are better people to do it.

Also, time issue-wise (for the stories). Also do a Grading competition where time taken is also a factor.

I think she said she needed a Senior Ref to host it... I guess I can depending on what I have to do.
