That could get a little complicated though... and I think there are already plenty of people who are willing to step up and volunteer to train newer members.

I think that is a workable idea HKim, although I do agree with WTP. It could get too complicated. If you thin that an incentive based ad would be bad than make it based on what people do as a ref, grader, etc. I especially agree with the benefits of having a tutor. As a teacher, you learn more, and as a pupil, you are infused with a desire to learn, especially if it has to do with something that you are particularly interested in (ie. Pokemon).

I don't know, I think it would be fairly easy to figure it out.

    Potential awards include:

Your apprentice becomes a permanent professional -> 1 Medium Ranked Mon or lower OR $30,000

    You teach a class -> $10,000 + $1,000/student

Your apprentice receives a temporary license -> $5,000

I thought you didn't want an incentive based program.

Unless this is wages, but it doesnt look like wages. I wouldn't award someone a Mon unless it was a lottery or something.

I don't want incentives for becoming a professional because the reward is just around the corner.

I do want to give incentives to teaching people how to become professionals because it will help members advance forward.

Ah, I see erase my rudeness. *ashamed*

I agree then! I think that that is a workable idea, but we have to confirm that tutors have enough time. Maybe we could even give them amnesty from their job altogether while they are teaching. This would confirm that they teach just as well as they do their job, whatever it may be.

As far as I know, I'm the newest fully qualified ref, and I find myself on both sides of the teaching.

Without any official teaching positions, I always found other older URPGers to generally be happy to answer my questions, if they had the time to.

For the most part, now that I'm in the position I get questions about how an eager young URPGer should go about becoming a ref, or specific questions about a move/situation from already-studying pupils. I'm always happy to answer these questions and help their reffing progress (provided they don't think about out-earning me :kawaii:) and would be happy to help out in a teaching position where possible. Often, I get questions about my experience becoming a ref, how I went about researching it or what the test was like (which I usually dont explain much off, thats like already knowing exam questions).

However, I'll happily admit that in the next minute, I'll be reffing a battle, someone will throw a curveball obscure move at me, or some combination of battle effects make odd situations occur, and I have to duck off to find a veteran who can explain how I should ref the turn. If no-one else is available (which often occurs with my Australian timezone) I'll do some quick Refpedia/Smogon research and wing it.

I don't have as much of that, being a grader, as a ref would; I do remember, though, before submitting my ref test that I was asking a couple of the other graders questions about the grader test. I originally thought a grading apprentice wouldn't be terribly effective - with most people either getting grammar, or not getting it, and it takes years of schooling to change that - but then I realized that it's more than just correcting a story. Reffing can work in seminars, as well as apprenticing, but I think that grading does lend itself quite well to a Knight accepting a young Padawan.

The thing about that is that there used to be reffing classes where like at least 10 people would come (and most actually dd well) and that was like months ago and we only have 2 full qualified refs and one restricted. :/

If you want to bring back the Master and Apprentice program, you could try. It worked for a little bit, and definitely helped people become refs. Just ask Nemo, Poke123, Marshy, or other people who benefited from it. :mail:

I wonder what was the hiccup then. If the classes did well, then we should have more refs... What did we miss?

I would be interested in taking one of the classes, although my schedule didn't permit it the last time; I'm not sure if I'd be interested in reffing, but I would at least like to know more about how the process works; and I may find more information that leads me to believe I would be interested in reffing.

No offense to Nemo and FD who I'm sure did a great job, but maybe if somebody who was actually a ref tester ran it, more people would have become refs. :mail:
