I could be on this Welcoming Committee (as I try to do that anyways for new members) and Chat Moderator (considering I've probably never broken the PG-13 rules).

Not sure if it's just me or what but I really dislike the idea of chat moderators in general. For the most part it's pretty relaxed in there with the very odd exceptions. But an emphasis on reporting people breaking the rules and then warning or dealing with it specifically seems far less... oppressive? (Probably not the right word.)

Oh god I'm agreeing with Syn halp

But seriously, I think it more a case where the mods (myself included) should just act a lot more quickly and effectively when it is CLEARLY way over that PG-13 line, and we all know the difference. Telling someone to stop talking about something is pretty ineffective. If we see it we should just kick on the spot.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I had in mind when I brought it up.

i think we should focus on the battle simulator part of urpg as opposed to the rpg part. when we first moved to bmg i saw lots of people joining the urpg thinking it was gonna be an rp type thing, when the only rp like experince we had was a park section that was just barely getting its shit together. as such many of the people who would actually like urpg for the battle part never got to experience it because they dismissed it as an rp. even though much of the urpg is actually built around battles.

The problem is , battling is much more developed than the other parts so we have creative people dissapointed / without much of a goal and battle loving people not coming here because they think it's RP heavy.

A name change was proposed but still keeping the acronym, this would change exactly nothing as except for HKim's signature no one uses URPG's full name.

I'm for this idea (only if we keep the acronym) but it's definitely easier said than done to make a 'backronym' for URPG. The PG bit can be changed to Pokemon Game, but it's the UR which is tough. U could range from Ultra to Ultimate to United while there isn't really anything that fits the R. Ultimate Risings Pokemon Game is the best I could get but even that is pretty crappy.

    *facepalm*

This is why I call it Pokemon Ultra.

On a somewhat related note, I talked with our BMG contact. She said it's perfectly fine to welcome new members to the forum, then encourage them to check out our BMG branch.

Just wanted to check in here to let people know how things are going, with URPG's efforts towards overall improvement. After discussing many of the concerns addressed by this thread, several new committees have been implemented.

First is the Welcoming Committee headed by Smiles! With her help and the help of the Welcoming Committee's members, we'll be making URPG a more comfortable place for new members, and provide them with guidance wherever needed. Smiles has already taken plenty of initiative and created a few threads to help the committee's cause. The Mentor / Apprentice Program, and the Introduction Thread are both open for new members to explore so they might become a part of URPG's close community.

Next up, we have the Fun Brigade led by Fawkes.. The Fun Brigade and its members will coordinate URPG Events that are not-necessarily (but can be) Pokemon related. The overall goal is to promote a sense of community, unity among members of the URPG. ...Plus, you know, have fun. Fawkes has also taken initiative and started some threads for URPG events that I encourage members to check out and participate in. We have URPG Movie Nights where you can suggest movies for groups of members to watch and comment on together, and the URPG iSketch Gallery where you can view our nonsensical scribbles from intense and nail-biting games of iSketch.

And, finally, we have the Outreach Team with Synthesis leading. The Outreach Team will coordinate efforts to promote URPG and attract new members on BMGf, PWN, and PXR alike. I've already seen some posts in welcome threads of the BMG and PXR branches, so we've gotten a head start here as well.

With these teams established, I hope more members of URPG develop an interest and sign onto them. Our goal here is to improve URPG for everyone, new and old, and make it a place where anyone and everyone can be comfortable and have fun. But we aren't done yet! There's still plenty to do, so make sure you're engaging in the community as much as you can. :)
