Okay so now that I've finally opened my eyes and realized that I can claim my Medium and give it to someone in exchange for a TM case so that I can EM my crap (and therefore everyone wins), I'm gonna grow a pair and do this. Or something. Yay. Signing up to be a mentor and also to be tutored.

Professions: Ref, Grader, Ranger, Geosenge Gym Leader, Official, and the most important one: PWN Admin (which is the only one that matters).
Skills: Writing, RP, being the PWN admin, apparently I'm good at graphic art, and sucking at battling. Basically I'm here to mentor people in the art of writing stories and I guess if you need help with park stuff, I can do that too.

Also, specific new goals would probably have to be hammered out-- but how would you feel about being a Grader/Ranger mentor? I, for instance, have experience as a DM and in running several forum games (like mafia), and am somewhat used to picking at writing, art, film, and music for critique. But I'd like to blend nicely in with other officials if I pass my Ranger test, and want to be of "average harshness" if I decide to pursue a grader/curator position.

 

Uh, for art, I'm gonna casually link my URPG gallery here and let you make that decision yourself. If you want me to help you with graphic art, I can attempt to do so (but literally most of the time, I just do stuff till it comes out nice or look at tutorials online), but I don't think I'm really in any position to mentor someone for the purposes of this. I can attempt to help if you really want me to, but I'm probably the wrong person to ask.

In terms of a grader/ranger mentor, I'm going to leave that up to the discretion of @Smiles;. Not sure how she's going to want to handle that, both from a grader standpoint and a ranger standpoint. (I assume she'll want to ask Winter and maybe also discuss it with Hannah, but I dunno. I don't want to speak for Smiles.) If those things get added, I'd be willing to revisit that if the time comes, but for now, my mentoring services are for writing and RPing. ;3

For the purpose of keeping things neat, I'm going to rule no for formalizing a mentor-mentee system for professions. I feel like the foundational skills should always be built upon first, and that is essentially what the mentor-mentee system is for. Once you've built on the skills of writing or creating beautiful art with your mentor, then perhaps it'd be nice to continue that relationship and get advice here and there for being a good grader or curator. As of right now, there will be no institutionalized system for shadowing professions.

Truly, it looks like there are no art mentors who've expressed their interests right now. But this may be a good opportunity to go out and ask certain URPGers how they're gotten to be such a good artist and how they do what they do - always a good starting point!

And, rerofessions, I figured it'd be as such: you ask someone to go over your post and help you decide if it's fair-handed or not. I guess the "Mentor System" is really more about getting rewarded for progress, not sure why I posed the question about getting rewards for becoming a better [Profession]. If you're in a profession, you're already getting a reward, and you're already supposed to be good!

So we have our first graduation from battling mentorship tonight.

I am proud to say that Seppe Victor Vega has graduated from my battling mentorship on this 31st day of May 2015.

It was a long 4 1/2 months. In just over four months, Seppe has gone from a complete newbie to someone who I believe has a valid shot at champion one day. He made referee within 2 months, and has been doing it excellently. He has gotten three badge, one from Felly, one from Prince Vultan, and his final one from me. He has proved his mastery of double and higher battles. He has gotten many Pokemon and formed strategies with them. He has stayed true to his roots and keeps using his ever faithful Feraligator.

It truly was a pleasure to have Seppe as my apprentice. Even though I ended up doing very little as he quickly proved he already knew the basics of battling.

I also hereby say that we should get a hard Pokemon for being the first instead of a medium : P

 

Congratulations, @Seppe; and Soul, for being the first ones to graduate from this mentor and apprentice program! Together, you have truly shown us what fighting spirit and dedication look like! You've saved us all from the fear of having no active ref online! AND now you shall receive your well-deserved prize, a Medium Pokemon for both mentor and apprentice!
