Leaks and a Ban

As many of you may know, these are some trying times for the URPG. Our activity is slumping, we're working on an expansion and there's been a leak in the Staff boards. Well, in the interest of working closer to you, the community, we are going to update you on what has been going on.

In the last couple of weeks, a lot of Staff-only information regarding URPG updates, expansions and meeting logs have been leaked to the public. While nothing super-important has been leaked, the Staff has devoted their time to trying to find the leak as a matter of principle.

The original distributor of the classified information was Team Evolution / Ketamine. He acted in a way that was clearly meant to stir up and challenge the Moderators and Officials, and when he was questioned about how he received the information he was unhelpful and untruthful. You may have known that he received a temporary ban while all of this was under review. Well, we are now announcing that Team Evolution / Ketamine has a permanent URPG ban. Please do not ref for him, grade for him, or perform any official URPG actions involving him in any way.

Furthermore, we eventually found out that Team Evolution / Ketamine was receiving his information from an anonymous leaker operating under the AIM screen-name "linkagenot.passed". This anonymous leaker proceeded to contact random members of the URPG community with further pieces of classified information. If anyone ever informs you of supposedly secret staff-only info, please contact a Staff member as soon as possible, preferably with a chat-log and even a print-screen of the information for time-verification purposes.

We would also like to address some recent concerns that have arisen as a result of the information leak; namely the belief that the URPG Staff are too private, and that much of we discuss can or should be made public.

Your URPG Leaders are always open to discussion if you have any questions or concerns regarding topics such as the recent expansion plans or URPG improvements. Just as you pitch ideas to us, you are equally welcome to ask what ideas we are planning, and we will answer as openly and honestly as we can without compromising what we are working towards. We are not politicians - we are a committee of your peers. We work to benefit everyone and your input and feedback is appreciated in this process.

However we ask that you respectfully understand that not all topics can be openly discussed - this is what our private boards are for.

Finally, we would like to thank the entire community for your maturity during these events. No one baited TE or actively attempted to search out the information. For this we are truly thankful, and even impressed by the maturity and positive mentality of you all. Again, if you are contacted by anyone, please forward the information to a Staff member. There may even be rewards for assisting in the capture of information leakers

Congrats to the team for handling this in such a mature way, and hopefully nothing like this will happen again.

 

It hasn't been fully resolved yet. There's still the person who passed on the information, but I'm sure the staff have a good idea who it is.

 

Oh, from reading it I just assumed TE had access to the staff boards (which didn't make sense anyway). From what I've heard from some officials in [URPG], I think they're getting close.

This is trully sad but I'm glad we have gone some way to plugging this leak.

Well, I'm sure if said member could tell us who the official was, his ban might be reduced to a temp one.

Officials overreact again, shocker.

Didn't you guys learn anything from the last time stuff like this happened. The community needs to know what is going on, because honestly, a majority of the time the community has a better grasp at what's going on than officials. Obviously things like ban/promotion discussion should be private but the rest of the items from the staff board should be made public.

Also no offense to chainreaction who I'm sure is a fantastic official, but something like this should have been posted by Hkim or leader with more seniority. Permanent bans are kind of a big deal, especially with such a prominent member.

 

It was under HKim's instruction that ChainReaction and I wrote this address. ChainReaction is a moderator and has every right to issue bans such as this.

Regardless of anyone's opinions or beliefs as to what we should or should not share with the community, that does not give any member or group of members the right to do so in direct violation of the privacy settings we have implemented. It remains our prerogative to decide as a whole what should be shared.

And even if some "information" was leaked. Why go crazy and start banning? Is it that big a deal? We're a pokemon role playing game on an internet forum. Don't take shit so seriously.

EDIT: People were unhappy with the argument I was making, so just to add on, not everything has to be dealt with threats, the officials and mods shouldn't be so harsh on something that is not even a big deal. I'm not sure what was leaked because I barely pay attention to URPG drama but I'm pretty sure the staff boards does not contain super secret information that can only be viewed by the eyes of 10 people.

Solution: Unban TE, and make him a mod as a "We're Sorry" present
