Grand Festival 2013

Welcome to this years Grand Festival, the premier tournament of the contest section.

Rules

-The Grand Festival will last for a total of three weeks.
-It will essentially be similar to the previous Keldeo and Ladder tournaments, in which you can battle whoever you want whenever you want, providing you are in the time limit.
-You will get points depending on where you place in each contest.
-All current contest styles (RSE/DPPT/BW) can be used. In BW contests, the minimum is a 4v4 and must be done in a private format (ie Revo/BW Revo)
-Each week will have a different style assigned to it in which all contests done in that style will earn double points. Each week will culminate in a festival of that type (which will not give double points). This festival will be organized by me at least a few days in advance, and will always occur on the Saturday evening.
-The winner will be determined by the most total points at the end of the Grand Festival.

There are no sign ups, and the Grand Festival will commence on the Sunday the 6th of October at midnight, GMT time (essentially 103 hours and 40 minutes from this post). Week 1 will give double points for RSE contests, week 2 will give double points for DPPT contests and week 3 will give double points for BW contests. Points are scored as follows:

RSE/DPPT: 4 points for winning, 3 points for second, 2 points for third, 1 point for fourth
BW: 3 points for winning, 1 point for fourth.

Now, onto the real reason you all want to participate...

1st Place gets 10,000 CC and a Complex level Pokémon.
2nd Place gets 8,000 CC and a Hard level Pokémon.
3rd Place gets 6,000 CC and a Medium level Pokémon.
4th Place gets 5,000 CC and a Simple level Pokémon.


(Prizes are subject to change depending on overall activity).

Like previously mentioned, week 1 will be RSE contest week, so prepare your strategies. Remember, of course, you can still participate in the other contest styles but for less points.

Sorry to poop on your parade here SLC (actually not really!), but this isn't going to be practical. In terms of consistently active Judges we have 3 individuals, Yourself, Turt and Ash. Now if I am not mistaken Turt and Ash can only ref BW so your bonus points is dumb since your the only one who could judge a different style. Oh yes I am forgetting chainy and ATF. Chainy although an awesome guy doesn't seem to be super active right now or is busy working on other stuff. If he does participate I suspect it will be the exception rather than the rule and ATF well his so busy he didn't even manage to finish Risk himself. I don't feel that this "Festival of Fun" is going to find much purchase with only three active judges. I'm also 100% certain at least Ash will throw himself into it wanting to compete and win sort of meaning he will want to judge less and battle more. As much as I and other Enjoy your enthusiasm for contests I really don't see this working.

As for your prize system it seems fairly good have you considered the possibility of reducing the prizes if it isn't as successful as you would like? I also assume the Contest credits are to be used in the Berry store with takings from previous matches with that in mind I feel you have pitched the numbers right whoever takes first is likely to have a significant amount of credits from wins and thus enough ribbons to make a roughly 20k credit purchase from the berry store.

Yeah, I understand the judge problem, but I do plan on being a lot more active than I have been for the duration of this tourney. Hopefully I can get some people to take judge quizzes too (particularly those in other timezones when I can't get on), but hopefully everything should be fine. Prizes are subject to change which was mentioned in the first post.

The reasoning behind the double points was an attempt to see some kind of activity from the other contest styles since they're pretty cool too. Even if I can't get on to judge them, BW contests can still be done for decent points. The fact that they're worth less than the other styles was due to me predicting they'd be the most popular style.

Yo, you keep saying double points but not saying what points. Are the actual end points themselves what's doubled and tallied to see who wins, or are you going to assign points for winning contests and shit, and that's what gets doubled?

Each contest you participate will earn you points as follows:

RSE/DPPT: 4 points for winning, 3 points for second, 2 points for third, 1 point for fourth
BW: 3 points for winning, 1 point for fourth.

I'd say yes, providing it finishes after XY is released. Unless a higher power/mod/whatever says no. If it ends beforehand, you can't wait until XY is released either.

 

This has begun in case you missed me saying last night. Some bonus rules:
-Logs go here, pay will be at the end of the tourney.
-Festivals will not give double points. The points work as you would expect (6 man festival results in 6 for first, 5 for second etc.)

I will be aiming to host contests/festivals on Tuesday, Thursday, maybe Friday and Saturday. The organised festival will be about 8PM GMT on Saturday, but there may be more than one as well as contests beforehand. Remember, you can still participate in other styles this week so don't just rely on me :{

I am plenty active thank you, just not on AIM. I check the forums three times a day, which is more than plenty of other people I could name.

SLC coasted on his stats until the end, when Protect stalling gave DR, BT, and Loyal Arcanine the amount of points to pass him. Amazingly, the winner of the secondary round would not have won the FFA with stats on or off, getting 3rd both ways. The person who got 3rd in the secondary round went on to win the FFA without stats.

So I was gone for the last couple of days, but this is over. Obviously, the prizes in the first post won't be handed out due to the lack of inactivity, but I'll try and find a compromise - maybe double prize money for all contests participated in. If this is the case, it will apply to all unfinished contests.
