A young man wearing a pure white suit steps forward facing the roaring crowds. He removes a similarly white fedora from his head and bows to audience, all eager to see the fantastic feats to be displayed in this contest.

The young man smiles. He is determined to win.

"Bulbasaur!" he commands, it's time for the 1st Act!

And she appears, it swirling to life from her pokeball. At first glance, she appears to be a normal Bulbasaur, but at second, there is more to it. Although none of her features appear particularly beautiful nor cute, her eyes hold a sharp cunning matched by none. She quickly glances over the crowd, and with dignity, bows before them just as her master.

And with that, the young man and his Bulbasaur walk to the side, as the other entrants come forth with their pokemon.

Katsuya stood, shaking slightly from the nerves of facing his first contest. Part of him wanted to turn and run, but he knew that this was such a huge opportunity, and he couldn't turn it down now. He heard his name being announced, and Kat stepped out in to the arena to a roar from the crowd. Suddenly, he felt at home, and the 19 year old trainer walked in to the arena before taking a bow before the audience. Standing tall, he pulled the Poké Ball from his belt and tossed it in to the air.

"Kaze, let's show them how it's done!" Kat beamed as the flash from the ball followed, and out popped his Magmar, Kaze. Having been sent for grooming - or the best grooming that can be possibly given to a scaly, spiky Pokémon, Kaze looked his best, as he followed Kat's instructions to bow to the audience. Katsuya walked up to his Pokémon, and bent down to give him some final words of advice.

"This isn't going to be easy...but we're going to do our best, and I have complete trust in you Kaze."

Kaze nodded at his trainer, and Kat's smile grew even more. The two then walked off to the side, ready for what was to follow.

Zane sat with his elbows resting on his knees, watching the other competitors making their introductions. They all seemed to have trained their Pokémon as well as they could in this field, while Zane had just joined the contest for the sole fact that he was bored. This would be a struggle.

Zane heard his name being called, so he sat up and grinned. He bounced from where he was sitting and jogged out onto the stage, waving at the audience. He stopped in the middle of the stage, bowed, and unclipped the only Poké Ball he had on his belt. He clicked the button on the centre, and it expanded in size.

"Show them yo' moves, Willow!" Zane called out, throwing the ball in front of him. It burst open, and Zane's Duskull rose from the flash of light that followed. Willow bobbed around in the air for a few seconds, watching the audience with interest.

"Now then, Willow," Zane whispered, pulling Willow closer to him, "I must admit you're not the best looking challenger here... oh come on, don't give me that look... but you can make up for it with you're moves. Just do your best, okay?"

Willow shrugged and turned away from his trainer. Zane sweatdropped.

A young woman popped up on the giant screen that hung over the contest area.

"Our judge has witnessed all four trainers and their Pokemon make an entrance, and has scored the Primary round. The first appeal round order is as follows,"

Photos came up on the screen, listing the Pokemon in the order that they would perform.

Katsuya smiled as he saw Kaze's score rise up on the screen. He was comfortably ahead of the others at this point, and that would mean a lot for the rest of the contest. Now, though, they had to lead - and Kat knew exactly what he had to do.

"Kaze, let's open this up with a Faint Attack!"

 

Use Synthesis, Bulbasaur!

 

Zane's face fell as he saw Willow was at the bottom of the leaderboard right at the start. It would take a lot of skill to get anywhere near the top. But, as the going had gotten tough, the tough should get going.

"Willow, show 'em your Astonish!" Zane roared. Willow started to stretch and mangle up his face until it became so hideous it was impossible to describe.

Kat smiled as he saw Kaze was still top of the leaderboard. Now, though, he wanted to try and shake things up - and knew just what to do for that.

"Kaze, let's dazzle everyone with a Confuse Ray!"

 

Shadow Punch.

 

"Hmm, Bulbasaur, we need to catch up! Use Sleep Powder! Dazzle them!"

 

"Urgh, still bottom. Come on, Willow, let's up our game! Give 'em a Night Shade!" Zane roared. Willow turned and nodded to him, and his eye flashed briefly. Then, a static red and black beam shot from his eye, stopping a few feet away from the front row and flickering before them before burning out and vanishing.

 

Magmar used Confuse Ray! Turn order has been randomized! +3! Magmar maxed out voltage! +6!
Gengar used Shadow Punch! +2! Voltage increased! +1!
Bulbasaur used Sleep Powder! +1! Magmar and Gengar were startled! -3 for each! Voltage increased! +1!
Duskull used Night Shade! +2! Magmar, Gengar and Bulbasaur were all startled! -4 for each! Voltage increased! +1!

The trainer looked up at the boards. He had fallen behind even further, despite Bulbasaur's quick thinking tactics.

It was time to get serious.

"Bulbasaur, Synthesis! We need to get in front!"

 

Shadow Ball.

 

Kat was starting to get a little nervous. While he had the lead, it wasn't anything spectacular, and he had to do something quickly about it.

"Kaze - Smokescreen"

 

Zane didn't feel at all happier with his position, as he seemed to only be one place above where he had started.

"It's a good start, Willow, but we really need to show what we've got, now! Willow, use Pursuit!" Zane roared. Willow facepalmed at him before using the attack, having paid attention to the points and their true position. Willow turned to the audience and then, in the blink of an eye, disappeared and reappeared in front of one of the audience members. He gave a twirl to humour Zane, and then floated back to him, a blank look on Zane's face ready to great him.

"The hell was that little twirl? Who do you think you are, Billy Elliot?" Zane asked bluntly. Willow scratched his head and sweatdropped, a red tinge painting his cheekbones.
