What is the URPG Ladder?

The URPG Ladder is a system that scores players and ranks them in a leaderboard.

The purpose of the URPG Ladder is to promote activity and competition. It also aims to give an accurate recording of where players stand in skill in relation to others.

What do I get for participating?

(approved by ST)

Each week ends at 3:00 PM (GMT-6 Central) Sunday.

After the first week is over: 1st place: $2,500
After the second week is over: 1st place: $5,000, 2nd place: $2,500
After the third week is over: 1st place: $7,500, 2nd place: $5,000, 3rd place: $2,500
After the fourth week is over: 1st place: $10,000 and bragging rights!, 2nd place: $7,500, 3rd place: $5,000, 4th place: $2,500

Then a new ladder will be started, perhaps with different payments.

Who can participate?

Anyone part of the URPG that is capable of fulfilling the three Pokemon requirement in the standard URPG Ladder rules.

How do I participate in a battle for the URPG Ladder?

Challenge someone or be challenged to a Ladder Battle (both players must be knowledgeable of what they're participating in). Once the battle is over, the ref (or someone) must post the link of the log of the battle here. Once this is done, the participants must wait for the results to be processed into the leaderboard. Players can continue to participate even if the latest battles have not been processed, but players should be wary that the points on the leaderboard may not be up to date when you choose who you challenge. IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THE OUTCOMES OF THE BATTLES ARE POSTED IN PROPER ORDER. SO REFS, IF YOU'RE REFFING A LADDER MATCH, POST IN THIS THREAD ASAP, OR AT LEAST SOMEONE POST THE RESULT.

What are the official rules for a single battle for the URPG Ladder?

3 VS. 3 or higher
Revolution
No Items (Can be used if BOTH battlers agree)
Sleep Clause
Freeze Clause
OHKO Clause

How are the rankings calculated?

The URPG Ladder uses the TrueSkill system developed by Microsoft:

Each player is given a µ (mu) and σ (sigma) rating. µ denotes a player's average skill and s denotes the uncertainty of that skill, the range of which your true skill can actually be. Participants in this ladder will start with 3000 µ and 1000 σ. Updating the µ and s of each player after a battle will be done by using this calculator:

Your position of the ladder will be based on who has the higher conservative skill estimate (CRE), µ - k*σ. The constant k that will be used will be 3. The result will be rounded to three decimals.

You will be added to the Leaderboard once you've completed your first battle.

If anybody wants to help with the upkeep of the leaderboard, send me an IM/PM! It's not that hard, I'll tell you everything!
