    Ground Article
    By WebMaster

Hey guys. What's up? I'm WebMaster, the newest member of the URPG Times staff. What I decided to do this week was write about the advantages and disadvantage of a specific type. I rolled a die on my ref calculator and I came up with 10. I'm digging deep into the Ground type this week.

Statistically speaking, ground types are excellent physical attackers and defenders, averaging at approximately 102 attack base stat and 96 base defense (approximately 303 base attack and 291 defense in URPG stats). Their general physical bulk can make them hard hitters and defensive walls and even sometimes a tank. Special is kind of a different story as they average at only approximately 55 special attack and 60 special defense (approximately 209 and 219 respectively).

Ground types do not have a very diverse movepool in my opinion. Only sixteen moves are of the ground type according to Bulbapedia; however, the moves they do get are quite effective. Plus, the ground type boasts double effectiveness against five types. Ground type attacks are also the only type that is super effective against electric types so it never hurts to have a ground move on you. One of them is the one of the most common (if not the most common) TM bought here on the URPG: Earthquake. With 100 base power and no chance of missing without any outside interference (abilities, items, etc.), it is one of the key TMs to have on a few mons at all times. Now if you're more of a special attacker, Earth Power would be an excellent choice. Though only 10 less base power than Earthquake, it still has a good 90 base power and a small chance to lower the special defense. Bulldoze, one of the newer TMs, is also nice to have on you if a mon is barely faster. At the cost of a medium base power of 60, this move is guaranteed to take your foe's speed down a notch.

Let's look at one of the most commonly used ground types. Swampert is a major choice among most URPGers. It has a whopping 404 HP combined with a bulky 279 Defense and Special Defense. It can even attack as well; 319 is great for the already high base power of EQ. One major disadvantage though is your speed. Swampert is mad slow being at only 219. Swampert may be able to dish out hits and take em, but a lower speed might put the brakes on your strategies. Baton passing some extra speed is highly recommended when using, or you can use TM Bulldoze to deal damage while making the speeds more even. Mamoswine boasts some bulk too. Though its defences are slightly lower than that of Swampert, it cherishes an even greater 424 HP. Mamo also gets Ice Shard priority and some good breeding moves like Endeavor and Superpower. If you think all ground types are slow, this next will prove you wrong. Garchomp has no stat that is below 259 and has 359 attack and 303 speed. Sand veil can also give you a slight edge if your opponent decides to take the risk with accuracy moves. Watch out for the 4x ice weakness though. One more ground type deserving an honourable mention is Gliscor due to its excellent speed of 289 and its other relatively strong stats. Poison heal and sand veil work very well for extra HP and evasion assistance; pick your weapon.

Well I'm out for this week. Hope you guys enjoyed reading and get yourself a ground mon today ;)

    Captian Dude [Sensored]
*This recording was unedited for the listening pleasure of the listener*

Captain: Let me begin my shamelessly plugging my story: Viridian forest by captain dude.
    http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f396/viridian-forest-captain-dude-wwc-125270/
    VOTE ME FOR BEST AUTHOR
I was shaking my damn head, knowing what I had gotten myself into but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Damn I’m an idiot. My first review of the day was the Vermillion City Gym leader, Captain Dude. Captain is Commanders little brother but just as crazy. Oddly enough, we both share the same name.

    Me: Favorite Gym Pokemon
Captain: Hmm, the favorite Pokemon in my gym? Well, i had fun in bed with Galvantula, so he's pretty cool, and Raichu is pretty awesome as well. Rotom-W always pulls out wins for me, but I’m going to have to go with my starter, Electrivire

Me: You know Im just putting Electivire right?
    Captain: Fine

    Me: Favorite regular Pokemon
Captain: I’m gonna have to go with Infernape

    Me: Why?
Captain: Well, he has an awesome move pool, and he looks pretty cool, and uh, I actually watched the end of the DP part of the anime and Infernape was always cool. He’s one of the few non-Gen1 pokes that I actually like

Me: Why do you like Vermillion?
Captain: I always wanted to own one of the original Kanto gyms. Either Cerulean, Vermilion, or Cinnabar. Vermilion was the first to open up, and at first I hated it and considered dropping it, but the more time I spent battling with the electric-types, the more I liked them, and now I never wanna drop it. My goal is get to 100 wins with vermilion

    Me: Then quit?
Captain: No, then get to 200 of course ;]

Me: Biggest achievement you've ever had in Vermillion?
Captain: Raping turt everytime he challenges all 12+ times but enough about my gym, let's get to more interesting questions
    Me: Hrm Batman?

Captain: No, Batman isnt even a god damn superhero
He’s just some guy who wears spandex and runs around with a little boy
    aka pedophile
    aka 90% of urpg
    wait..
    think batman is in urpg?
Reaching for my knife, I flicked the blade open as I was ready to gut him for his blasphemous words.

Captain: YOU'RE NOT MEXICAN YOU’RE BLACK YOU USE GUNS!

    Me: OK INTERVIEW F**KING OVER!
Captain: NO IM NOT DONE! I HAVE MORE TO SAY!

Me: F**K YOU FAGGOT! YOU AND YOUR ANTI BATMAN!
    Captain: SIT THE F**K DOWN!

    Me: F**K YOU!
    Captain: NO F**K YOU!

Before you leave Mav, I'd just like to give a shout out to my homie, my mom and my dad LOVE YOU GUYS oh and Alaska F**K YOU. CommBa my brother LOVE YOU LOTS BRO STAY GODEN PONY BOY.

    Me: ....Boondock Saints?
    Captain: No f**k you

Me: Wait that was in Boondock Saints
    Captain: Outsiders

    Me: CLOSE F**KING ENOUGH
    Captain: NOT AT ALL

    Pichu Boy

So after that riveting conversation with Captain…damn I need some vodka….I went onto review another gym leader. This time it was PichuBoy, the Mahogany Town Gym leader. This gym specialized in Ice type Pokemon and their cool demeanor.

Me: So what would be your favorite Pokemon?

PB: Well, I'm called PichuBoy... so it's gonna have to be Pichu. Mew is close second, though.

Me: Any preference for a Gym Pokemon?

PB: Delibird, before I traded it away )': Currently, probably have to be Slowbro. He has definitely made managing Steel-types a lot easier!

Slowbro is a pretty awesome Pokemon, able to take down one of the main weaknesses to Ice, Fighting due to it being Water/Psychic. Lorelei had one on here Elite 4 team to it seemed to work well for Pichu. Slowbro has access to many different moves including Flamethrower to counter those pesky fire types. On a related note…how are Steel types harmed by hail? Food for thought.
    Me: Memorable URPG moment?

PB: A couple of years back, when Critical Hits were screwed up in the URPG, the subject came up and I said "Tbh, we do it differently anyway. The games have some different system" and one of the "experienced" players said to me "MK, do you even know how to play Pokemon?" Fast forward about a year later, and the CH system gets changed to the game's system. I'm just too good.
Me: What got you into the URPG?

PB: A couple of years back, when Critical Hits were screwed up in the URPG, the subject came up and I said "Tbh, we do it differently anyway. The games have some different system" and one of the "experienced" players said to me "MK, do you even know how to play Pokemon?" Fast forward about a year later, and the CH system gets changed to the game's system. I'm just too good.

Me: What do you think about the people in the URPG?
PB: : Ehhh... generally all right. I know we're not the "perfect" RPG, but we're a community, and that's what matters. [/harry-esque speech]

Me: So Ice…why did you choose that gym and do you like the type?

PB: I chose it because it was available and I had Weavile as a starter xD It's definitely made me really love Ice-types, though.

Me: Are you looking for something to come to URPG

PB: I reckon I'd quite like a really inventive new tournament. Something we've never seen before.

Roleplayer of the Week + Interview
    By EmmySxC

Honestly, who would want to willingly read through pages of roleplays? If you want to experience the national park through everyone else, then just sign-up. Wait a minute! In truth, there are runs that are bad and that are good. I’ve noticed that the people who stepped outside the box have quite the fun. Thus, I was able to choose the roleplayer of the week because I’ve discovered someone who stepped outside the box. Not only did this person have a character with an entire story I didn’t know, but she brought out the personality of the character with her Pokemon.

Therefore, the roleplayer of the week goes to Akinai. Her ability to roleplay with details and to carry out personality had made me want to read her roleplays even more. I was a little sad to have finished reading all her recent runs, but I look forward to her future posts. Everyone, learn from this, when you step outside of the box to put more effort into your roleplays than just the initiative to catch Pokemon, the national park can become more fun. Give it a try and you’ll see.

As a treat, I’ve done an interview with Akinai.

    ---
Q: What first made you want to go to the park? Was there someone to introduce you to the national park?

A: Roleplaying was what brought me to the URPG originally, actually. No one really introduced me, just saw it when skimming the forum and decided to sign up. Always been a fan of roleplaying and, due to just obtaining SoulSilver, Pokemon was on the mind at the moment.

Q: What do you find better: main or individual rp? Why?

A: While it is easier to find your posts by making an individual RP, I prefer the main one. The main part of the park seems to have been made so other trainers can interact and whatnot, allowing for a more enjoyable experience.

Q: What one quality of a roleplayer do you feel makes a run fun?

A; There's actually quite a few... originality would definitely be the top part of the list though. No one wants to see a Mary Sue or the exact same moves over and over again.

Q: Do you feel that your character is easier to roleplay with a more developed background or no? Why so?

A: It depends on the roleplay to be honest. While a more developed character can be easier to fall into due to knowing how he/she looks at things and go from there, it's not exactly smart to squeeze a character into a situation or place where there backstory does not mesh well. So to this... suppose the answer would be both yes and no.

Q: What's the toughest battle you've done in the national park?

A: Most likely my first one, which was against an Absol. I had not known that they could learn such a wide variety of moves, and it was using them all in an impressive way, along with using Taunt at the most annoying time. Needless to say, there was a lot of switching out and trying to figure out what to do next.

    Story of the Week
    By Buoysel.

This issue, the prize goes to PichuBoy! This will probably make all those shippers that see this go wild, but guess who cares. Go on. At any rate, The Ugly Wurmple is a well-written tale, composed by the one of the most prestigious, yet unappreciated, writers. It is clear through reading the story that PichuBoy has put every fibre of his effort into making it a masterpiece, and I feel that this effort has achieved its goal. I personally graded it, and I found that underneath its simple-seeming exterior, the story had cleverly symbolised various things, and it had a deep moral that penetrates one's very thoughts, leaving you to wonder in awe of the story for days.

Just kidding, but it was a good effort anyway. PichuBoy receives 1,500 in virtual money, which buys absolutely nothing in URPG. :>

    Pokemon Of The Bi-Week
    Randomly rolled by Bulba

In every issue of the URPG Times, I will randomly choose a "Pokémon Of The Week". If you're a member of the URPG, and you happen to have that Pokémon, you will win $1,000! Just reply to this thread to claim your money! It's that simple!

Time run out to claim Unfezant, but now if you're a proud owner of a Scizor you can claim $1,000 after reading the rest of the times. Now, on to the bit you've all been on the edge of your seats for: The strategy side of things!

    How to Obtain One

There are many ways to obtain a Scizor, but unfortunately it will take a lot of time and patience to get your hands on this powerful creature. The first way is writing for a Scyther, which means you'll have to write at least a cool 30000 characters with a decent enough plot for your grader to confirm the capture. The other main way is to roleplay for a Scyther or Scizor. These are both found in the woods, and as you woud assume Scyther is the easier of the two to get, with a 25000 MCR. On the other hand, Scizor requires a meaty 45,000 characters, and as such is not the favourable Pokémon. Other Pokemon located in The Woods include Flying-types, Bug-types, Grass-types and Poison-types.

    At a Glance

When you look at Scizor's stats, its attack obviously pops up at you. When you see it has Technician as well, then Bullet Punch, you're really going see it delivering some pain. With a great defensive typing as well, as well as defensive stats that really aren't too bad, you could also put this thing up for a defensive spin, especially considering it has access to Curse, increasing its Attack as well as its Defense, at only the cost of its already bad Speed. Scizor's speed is really the worst thing about it, as it keeps Scizor from damaging faster steel types who resist Bullet Punch, its main STAB, and can KO Scizor back with a fire move (such as Hidden Power Fire). Using Scizor is actually quite easy, and its prevo's story rank definitely shows that.

    The Shopping List

Basically, these are the basic moves you'll want to obtain for your own Musharna, complete with costs for you to obtain the best moves possible. These are:

    Code:
    Select All
Bug Bite - 5000 [DC] (Strongest STAB taking Technician into consideration) Acrobatics - 5500 (110 power in no item battles is usually welcome) Aerial Ace - 4500 (A never missing 90 power move with Technician is always good if Scizor has an item) Substitute - 7000 (A good move to avoid burns, sleep. confusion, or even freeze) Light Screen - 3500 (Raising Scizor's Special Defense makes it even harder to destroy) Rain Dance - 5000 (Fixes up Scizor's only weakness, fire) Curse - 4500 (A great move to raise attack and defense since Bullet Punch will usually be Scizor's most used move) Baton Pass - 5000 [DC] (If Scizor think's its about to meet its match, it can just as easily pass the boosts it has already gotten to someone else to destroy the opponent) Roost - 5000 (A reliable healing move which can keep some moves out of KO range) Superpower - 5000 [DC](A 120 power Fighting move is always good to carry due to the coverage it brings against the other steel types which give Scizor trouble)
That comes up to a nice rounded 50000, which isn't too much for a powerful creature like Scizor.

    Strategies

Now that you have paid for all these TMs, I'm sure you want to know how to actually use it. Well, don't worry because Bulba's going to highlight some of the best strategies to use when battling with Scizor. Here goes nothing.

Offensive Defensive Mix [Technician]: Technician really makes Scizor the threat it is, so when it comes to ability, always use Technician. With Bullet Punch in its arsenal, Scizor basically has a 90 Power priority move (STAB included), which can do some wonders against Rock and Ice types. Its other STAB move, Bug Bite, hits at 135 power (STAB included), which, while it doesn't have priority, still hits pretty hard with Scizor's attack stat. Swords Dance, Curse, and Light Screen, are all good boosting moves to help Scizor in where it excels (Swords Dance and Curse can both help in sweeping, while Curse also boosting bulk, while Light Screen gives it a more defensive edge since its typing is only weak to fire). Agility and Tailwind are both in Scizor's arsenal as well, fixing its horrid speed, allowing Bug Bite more use. If you think an opponent is going to switch out, a Technician boosted Pursuit may come to your use, especially for ghost and psychic types that are weak to Dark moves

    Closing Comments

Hope you enjoy this issue and start answering those questions. Also, I am looking for a new URPG Times banner, you will get paid :D Just PM Alaska or myself. Goodbye

First of all, this is from two years ago. Please don't bump a thread that is so old. Also since it is so old, the Pokémon of the week prize from it is no longer valid.

Second of all, unless you joined on one of our other forums, you don't seem to have ever joined URPG. This is specific to URPG. However, you are welcome to join us! Read this and then post here for your starter.
