One day in a lake near Littleroot town in the Hoenn region, a small green Lotad was nibbling at some pond weed when he bit into something hard. He moved back to see what he had bitten into: it was a small rock.

'No matter,' the Lotad thought. 'I have to get to work soon.' So he started swimming towards the docks. Now, like most other Lotads, this one worked as a ferry for other small Pokémon who couldn't get across the lake on their own.

As he went to start his rounds, he saw a flock of pidgey flying overhead. He had always dreamed of flying through the clouds and seeing what was beyond the hills. 'Oh well,' he thought. 'I doubt that will ever happen.' So he began his rounds.

His first set of passengers was a small group of Caterpie looking to get across the lake to forage for berries. So they set off on their trip. About halfway through the journey, something MYSTERIOUS happened. The ripples in the water started to get harsher and harsher, and soon they turned into waves. In the distance, the travelers saw a strange looming shadow. Then, all at once, they realized what it was.

    Gyarados.

Then all the Caterpies began to scream in the low, gurgly way that only Caterpies can. Seconds later, a piercing cry was let out by the giant beast on the horizon. Then Lotad's primal instincts told him to yell loudly for help.

As he did, he heard other Pokémon swimming towards him. It was his entire family, all the Lotads and Lombres and Ludicolo in the lake.

The battle raged for hours on end, attacks were flying everywhere. During the battle the Gyarados reared up and three Lombre appeared beneath the beast and let out a volley of Energy Ball attacks. They all bounced off its thick scaly skin, but left it quite bruised.

Then the Gyarados retaliated with a Surf attack to sweep his enemies back so they were unable to hit him. But just then the Caterpies used String Shot to lasso onto a root and pulled the group forward. All at once all the Pokémon attacked with their most powerful moves, and all the energy created a small explosion which at once knocked out the Gyarados.

The next day he saw the havoc wreaked by the battle. The mudholes that the lake-dwelling Pokémon lived in were destroyed, and the lake had lost a lot of water, and the whole lake's shape was different. He then saw the flock of pidgey drinking by the side of the lake. He swam up to the side of the lake to greet them.

"Hello," he said, "did you see the battle yesterday, we defeated a Gyarados!"

"Really?" said one of the Pidgey, "That Gyarados has been terrorizing our flock for ages. We have not been able to fish or even come close to the lake for fear of being eaten, how can we ever thank you?"

"Maybe you could take me to see what's on the other side of the hills?"

"Definitely!" replied the Pidgey."we'll set off tommorow wake up bright and early, pack lots of food we're going to be out for a long time we could even pack camping stuff if you want to stay for more than one night.

The next day the lotad woke up early to the crowing of a Murkrow he swam up to the side of the pool where the pidgey were waiting

"lets go" said one of the pidgey.
