It was a beautiful summer day in the town of Himatja, a city at the foot of a mountain, located up high in the tops of boreal trees. In this village, one of the inhabitants was a youngster called Luke. Luke almost always wore his red shirt or blue hoodie, depending on the weather. He also liked to wear his shorts with large pockets.

Luke loved to play music and to go out in the woods after school, exploring the dangers that lay inside. He could explore for days before returning home. Of course his mom did not quite like it when he did so.

One day after school, Luke decided to go back into the woods located west of the village. He had explored this part of the woods with his dad while he was just a little kid. It was his favorite place to be. Every time he would come here, he hoped his dad would somehow appear right behind that big apple tree…

But that day, something even Arceus would not be able to come up with happened. As Luke sat there

relaxing on a big tree stump in the woods all alone, a big explosion made the earth tremble! Luke thought it must’ve been the power plant located right outside of the woods next to Olbday city, the city of shining lights. He started to make his way over to the sound of the explosion, which didn’t sound too far away from where he was at that point in the woods.

A few minutes passed, but once he came closer to the city, he could not believe what he saw. A big meteor had fallen from the sky and created a huge crater right outside of Olbday city. A police car and some grass around the crater was burning from the impact. But the meteor seemed to be fully intact.

Luke didn’t know why, but he was somehow drawn towards the meteor. Before he could go any closer, another explosion happened; the police car that was on fire had blew up. More cops arrived on the scene. They fired at something, but Luke couldn't quite figure out what he saw. Luke fled back into the woods out of anxiety--if the power plant didn’t explode, it would the be the safest place to hide.

He started running. He was startled after all the noise he had heard. Why are people shooting? was all Luke could think about. Luke was drawing near the power plant only to stumble over a big branch lying on the ground. As he lie there in the dirt, the bushes around him started to rustle. He thought he had gone mad from the noise when yellow egg-shaped creatures walked out of the foliage to his side. They kinda looked like easter bunny eggs except with arms, legs and horns which sparked with electricity!

“Elekid” Luke said, although he didn’t quite know how he had known the name of these… creatures.

He was lying there on the ground, praying that somehow the creatures wouldn't notice him. But the creatures did notice him. Luke feared for his life. They started to shake their arms viciously until they started sparking with electricity.

One of them sent a bolt of electricity right at Luke’s face. Time seemed to slow down around him. Was this the end? Would he get to see his dad? All those thoughts rushed to him in that one small moment of time.

But instead of feeling a significant amount of pain, or everything going black at once, Luke had not been hit by the bolt. A green sort of shield was emanating from him in the form of a sphere. The creatures were confused at first but kept launching their bolts of electricity right at Luke. Luke didn’t know what was happening. A green shield was protecting him, but how and why? The bolts kept bouncing off the shield. Minutes passed and the creatures seemed to be getting desperate to break it. But why him? Why were they so desperate to target him?

Luke felt his strength leaving him. He didn’t know how he had created this shield around him, but it was draining his energy. He would not be able to keep it going for much longer without passing out.

Then, there was another explosion and the sound of thunder. Lightning had struck the earth in the direction of the power plant. The creatures seemed to be drawn in by the sound of the thunder as they stopped attacking Luke and looked in the direction the lightning had struck. They left immediately in that direction. The green shield dropped around Luke, and then everything went black.

Luke had no dreams that night; he was too exhausted. The next day Luke woke up and felt warm. He didn’t know where he was. He was in a small room with wooden walls, ceilings and floors. There was no interior. Just an empty room. He saw a big hole in the wall, just big enough for him to fit through.

Once he made it to the hole, he noticed he was high up in a tree. It was not one of the trees he lived in at home, in Himatja town, but a normal pine tree that birds would live in. He turned around only to immediately regret his decision when he saw a big red bird about three feet tall and a few smaller ones just bigger than his own hands right beside it, staring at him. He was scared upon the sight of these birds he had never seen before. As much as he wanted to jump out of the hole, he would plummet to his death, and after all he just went through, he could not end it like that.

The large bird spoke to him in an unknown language, but somehow he understood parts of it.
"Soarer, we ar--o help you," was all he could understand.

“Soarer? Who is that? Who are you guys?” Luke responded.

"Plea--, --ust rest, Soarer," the big bird spoke. She must’ve meant Luke, but why they called him Soarer was something Luke could not put his finger on.

He felt the exhaustion coming back to him. They were right; he had to get some more rest. The big bird lay down, spreading both of her wings. All the small red birds, Fletchling was their name, at least so he thought, lay down “hugging” the big bird, Talonflame. The Talonflame seemed to be inviting him to come lie up against her. When he decided to sit next to her, under her wing, he felt the warmth emanating from her body and immediately fell asleep.

This time around, Luke had a vivid dream, one like he hadn’t had ever before. Luke saw his father in the woods; he seemed lost still trying to find his path to the village. Luke screamed to his dad but he didn’t hear him. Then, the dream shifted locations. He was… in a place so beautiful, he had never seen anything like it before. There was a big lake, and when he looked down into the lake to see his reflection, he saw himself, but with blue wings and pointy ears.

The dream shifted once more. It was pitch black, but he could hear a voice. It was talking perfect English to him. “Soarer, your time has come. You will awake, the group will find you, and you will need them as much as they will need you. You will help save the world. You--” The dream shifted again, but before he could see anything else, he woke up.

It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, and the Fletchling were on a branch outside of the tree singing a song like nothing had happened. When Luke woke up, the Talonflame was sitting in the corner. She seemed to be waiting for him to wake up. There was a berry in front of her. It was blue. She nudged it towards him with her big beak.

Luke hesitated before picking up the berry. But he trusted the Talonflame after what had happened last night. He took a small bite out of the berry. An explosion of different tastes all came together in that one bite. Luke immediately felt rejuvenated and kept eating till the whole thing was finished.

The Talonflame spoke, but instead of trying to understand what she said, a deep but friendly voice in his mind translated every word. Soarer, I’m afraid we can’t help you any more on your journey. You need to leave. Go north. You will find what you look for in the mountains.

There it was again. “Soarer.” Why do they keep calling me that? My journey? You can’t help me? Luke didn’t understand why they kept calling him that, but he decided he should listen and go north.

The Talonflame invited him to come outside. Once he sat on the branch, the Talonflame grabbed him by his shoulders with her claws and flew him safely down to the ground. One of those blue berries fell from the branch of the tree where the Fletchling were sitting. Talonflame nudged it towards him before flying up back to her nest.

Luke tucked the berry away in his pocket. He had no clue where he was; he had never been to this part of the forest. Go north. You will find what you look for in the mountains is what the voice had said. And so he obeyed.

The forest was like the woods west from Himatja town, except less dense. After he had walked for a few miles, he didn’t hear any birds. The only thing he had heard so far were the Fletchling in the tree where he came from. Ahead of him was what looked to be a small hillside. Possibly a good place to scout the area from--at least that is what his dad had told him.

Once he arrived at the top of the small hill, he saw the mountains the voice had mentioned. Big mountains as large as Mount Everest. Was it Mount Everest? Luke decided against that idea. That would have meant he had traveled from the United States to Europe! But somehow, the mountain formation looked familiar. Maybe he had seen it in geography class--not that he was very good at it.

His belly grumbled; hunger was setting in, and he was getting a bit tired too. He started looking for some food and a place to rest; he didn’t want to use the berry he had gotten from Talonflame yet. He saw a big berry bush. Unlike the blue berry he got from the Talonflame earlier that day, this bush had normal blueberries hanging from its branches. He picked a handful. His dad had taught him that some berries that were edible. This looked like one of them, and so he shoved them in his mouth. He made a bed of fallen leaves he found in a hollow tree. Though the sun had only just settled down, Luke fell asleep almost immediately.

More dreams, even more vivid than the night before, followed. An explosion, people screaming, fire everywhere. He could see his best and only friend, Jay, running for his life while those yellow creatures, the ones that had attacked him a couple of nights ago, where chasing him. Luke wanted to run after him. He wanted to help his best friend beat these Elekid up after what they did to him a few nights ago. But some force was pulling him backwards, back into his dream.

The dream shifted. He saw that the meteor creatures with all different sizes and colors were emerging from within. Policeman from Olbday city were trying to shoot the monsters, but instead of killing them, the monsters seemed to almost be immune to the bullets, sending fire, electricity, water and a lot more of the elements at the cops. Luke thought the cops could not have survived it. Then he saw those yellow creatures from before emerging from the meteorite, running off into the woods in the direction of the power plant. Then he saw… himself in the bushes just before he dashed off back into the woods.

The next morning he felt cold and hungry. Eating the berry Talonflame had given him made him feel warm from the inside but the hunger was only subdued. He decided to keep heading north in the direction of the mountains. After a few miles of walking, Luke saw smoke right outside of the forest. A small village the size of Himatja seemed to be located there. There were a few small, what looked like, residences. There was also a church and what looked like a café. He slowly walked towards the village. He thought it was abandoned. It was so quiet, and all doors and window shutters were closed. But then someone shot at his feet.

“Who are you and what are you doing here!” a voice demanded.

Luke looked around to see where it was coming from without success. He tried to not move a muscle, but he could feel his whole body shivering.

“I’m not saying it again. Who are you and… what are you doing here!!” It was a deep voice of a man probably somewhere in his forties.

    “I’m Luke… I… I’m lost,” Luke responded.

“Where are you from?” the voice echoed.

“From... Himatja Town.” The voice was gone for a few seconds, but Luke didn’t move a muscle.

A door to the right side of him opened. An old man walked out of one of the buildings to the right. It sort of looked like the town’s café. The door was closed behind him, as if they were afraid of losing any and all warmth inside.

“Himatja town? That’s… near Olbday, if I recall correctly. That’s… where it started. How did you come here?” the old man asked.

Luke didn’t quite understand what it was that the old man had mentioned, but he felt like it was the wrong time to ask. Luke explained the whole story. From what happened in the woods to how he came to be here.

“Come in. We have a lot to discuss with you,” the old man replied when he opened the door and walked back in. Luke followed him inside.

Thanks alot Winter for helping me as a mentor.
