"Alright, Numel use your Earth Power attack!" Jay commanded his Numel.

Jay's Numel was sweating profusely. It had been fighting relentlessly against Lt,. Surge's Pokemon, but it seems to have met it' match. It lifted it's right foot and then sent it crashing onto the ground with sheer strength, causing it to split open wide and send large stones showering over the battlefield. Still no luck for Jay. This Raichu was becoming a pain to find. Lt. Surge laughed at jay's feeble attempt to find his prized Pokemon. His Raichu wasn't just adept at fighting above ground it had also grown quite used to navigating in the dark beneath the ground.

    "Come out Raichu!" he yelled.

The ground underneath Numel began to shake and then Raichu soared upwards, from beneath Numel, sending Numel flying high up into the air. Numel had barely been thrown up a few feet so it wouldn't hit the Gym floor too hard, hopefully. Numel tumbled over in the air and fell downwards, landing on his stumpy legs awkwardly. He gave a cry of pain as his legs buckled beneath him. Jay looked at Numel clearly devestated, and was about to return it to it's Pokeball until he saw tge look of determination on Numel's face. Numel gradually staggered to his feet and gave Jay a wry smile.

"Numel, well done! Try to use Sandstorm," Jay squealed in delight.

Numel began kicking up sand all around the cavernous room. Soon the room was covered in many small clusters of sand, swirling around. Jay pulled out his Go-goggles, a present from his mother for his fourteenth birthday, and clasped them around his head. Instantly, the Gym became a lot clearer and Jay felt as though this battle was going as planned for the first time that evening.. Jay glanced over at Lt. Surge guiltily. Lt. Surge had his right hand protecting his face from the buffeting sand. His short, spiky, blonde hair was being blown in all directions. Lt. Surge brushed some sand off his dark overalls with his free hand. Thankfully, their tactic appeared to be working. The Sandstorm attack had distracted Lt. Surge.

"Double Edge Numel!" Jay bellowed over the scratching sound of the sand clusters hitting off the sides of the large room.

Raichu noticed Numel heading straight for him, but it was too late. Numel crashed into the large mouse Pokemon and knocked it over easily. Raichu was knocked backwards into a cushion of sand, where it lay motionlessly. There was a large grey bruise on it's previously white belly from where the Nunel had struck.

Now that the battle was over Numel stopped kicking up the sand so it had began falling down to the ground in a mighty downpour, given it the appearence of a desert storm. Lt. Surge began walking over to Jay, ignoring the clusters of sand pelting from above. He looked into Jay's dark blue eyes, as he trudged slowly through the sand. When he reached Jay he handed him the small, polished badge, that Jay had earned. Lt. Surge paused for a minute, trying to decide what to say. It was quite clear that this particular Gym Leader wasn't used to losing.

"Well, I'm not very good at handling defeat," he admitted. "But I want to ignore my pride and wish you the best of luck with your other Gym battles."

"Here. I also want you to have this," he told Jay calmly. Jay looked down at a yellow disk, that Lt. Surge had clutched in his hand.

"It contains the Technical Machine; Charge Beam. That will give you the edge over others," he added.

Jay picked up the new badge between his index finger and his thumb and held it up to the flourescent light shining down from above. Jay gave Lt. Surge a quick grin before walking out the large, green Gym doors.

As Jay left the Gym he seemed to enter a completely different world. Rain droplets was pelting down from above outside. Each one made a soothing splashing sound as it hit to tarmacadam ground. The dysmal weather didn't diminish Jay's happiness after finally receiving his third Gym badge. Jay looked at himself in a puddle that happened to be by the Gym door. He was a skinny teenage that seemed to always have a smile plasterred onto his face. He had dark chestnut coloured hair that fell to his shoulders. He also had very pale skin, that seemed to be illuminated by the moon shining directly overhead. He was wearing a baggy yellow t-shirt and navy-blue denim jeans.

He didn't notice a little girl sneak up behind him. Stealthily, she leaned forward and grabbed Jay's shoulder, rather roughly.

"What took you so long?" she demanded as Jay turned around.

"Hey sis!" Jay grinned. "I got my third badge!" he exclaimed.

She gazed intently at her brother, before responding. "Do I look like I care," she muttered, before storming off down the grey, moisture-laden road.

Jay ran after her, oblivious to the splashing of the rainwater. She was heading up towards the Diglett Cave. Digglet Cave was a cramped cave that was littered with Diglett of every shape and size. Jay saw his sister trip over something yellow, just as she reached the entrance to Diglett Cave. As Jay's eyes looked up to see what the yellow object was, he saw it quickly dissappear into the nearby trimmed hedges.

"Jay? Jay! Are you going to help me up?" she shouted from where she lay on the dirty, grey road.

"Hunh? Oh yeah ... yeah I'm coming," Jay said, still thinking about the small yellow blur that had dissapeared moments earlier into the bushes.

Jay reached down and pulled his little sister up by her little, scrawny arms. As she stood there before him, Jay was still thinking about the thing that had tripped up his sister.

"Are you going to let go of my hand or will I have to make you?" she laughed.

Jay realised he still had her hand in his. "Oh, of course," he said, blushing crimson. He was glad to see that she wasn't angry with him. Sometimes girls were impossible to understand.

Meanwhile, in the nearby bushes Wyatt patted his Drowzee on it's big rounded head.

    "Excellent," he purred.

Drowzee placed the small card in the palm of his masters hand.

"Looks like they won't be challenging the Little League Championship any time soon," he wisperred to his fateful companion.

The next morning Jay and his sister, Lucinda, packed their travelling bags with everything that they would need for the Little League Championship. This included his own Pokemon, several nutritious snacks and also a map of the west half of Kanto that ranged from The Indigo Plateau in the west, to Cinnabar Island in the far south. Jay studied the brochure, that had arrived at their doorstep the previous morning.

So, you think you have what it takes to be number one?

This years Little League competition will be a serious of battles, sporting various different rules, to test the ultimate beginning trainer.

    How Do I Enter?
*All applicants must fill in the enclosed form and send it off to the register of this years competition, Ian Braithwite, on or before the 22nd of June.
*All applicants must have at least 2 Pokemon to battle with.
*All applicants must have at least 3 badges, and no more than 6 badges.

    What Do I Bring?
*Your entry pass. This is an absolute necessity.
    *Your Pokemon.
*Note the Pokemon must be kept in standard issue Pokeballs, that have not been modified or tampered with in any way.

Failure to comply to any of these rules will result in an immediate violation of the Little League Championship rules and the candidate will be suspended from competing in this years Tournament.

*Note: All Pokemon will be healed after each battle.

    And most importantly Have Fun!

Jay folded up the sheet of paper, along with his pass and placed it in his cosy trouser pocket. Lucinda turned around, panicking.

"Where is it? Oh no! This can't be happening," she panted.

She looked as if she was on the verge of tears.

"What's wrong?" Jay asked, genuinely confused.

She began rooting through her mahogany desk drawer, throwing sheets of paper everywhere.

"I can't find my pass," she wimpered, before breaking down and crying.

Jay felt sharp pangs of guilt in the pit of his stomach. He really hoped it wasn't his fault. He shoved the sheets of paper off of the bed and sat down beside her. He pulled her long blonde hair out of her face and hugged her. She seemed to appreciate this. Jay wasn't quite sure how he knew she enjoyed it, but he could tell she did.

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The next hour of Jay's life was one of the most upsetting hours of Jay's life. It consisted of his and Lucinda's attempts to search for her missing pass. They looked in all manners of places, including the family washing machine and the freezer, but it was to no avail.

Lucinda had been really dissapointed, but she didn't want Jay to miss out because of her. Although Lucinda never admitted it she actually liked her dorky brother deep down. Way deep down.

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Jay arrived at Viridian City shortly before the Tournament was due to start. He hopped off his rusty bike, that had a horribly annoying habit of squeeking very loudly when he passed by people. He took out his padlock and locked his shabby bike, next to all the other bikes by the corroded iron gates.

As Jay approached the gate he was forced to wait in a short line, consisting of five other candidates. Jay was so nervous when it was his turn to walk up to the glass and hand up his pass, along with his Pokeballs, for inspection. Jay was certain the gaurd could hear his heart beating crazily in his chest.

The gaurd looked down at Jay. His face was stony and motionless. He had a very menacing appearence. He had short, red hair. There was a large crease in his forehead. Jay also noticed his muscles bulging through his white vest. Suddenly Jay felt a very strong sense of despair.

"Enjoy your stay!" the gaurd said surprisingly cheerfully.

This took Jay by complete surprise.

"Oh ... wait, what! You mean I ..?" Jay trailed off.

The gaurd nodded in agreement, before beckoning the next candidate onwards.

Jay passed through the steel gate, wondering what lay ahead. What he saw upon passing the gates was quite an amazing sight. Hundreds of trainers stood outside a large dome building. It's roof was made entirely of glass panels, that presumably trapped any sunlight inside, keeping it nice and warm. The white-washed walls were made of many sturdy building blocks. Muticoloured light flashed somewhat erratically next through the entrance into the large glass dome.

Jay approached the building slowly, looking for someone he knew.

Many Pokemon were out of their Pokeballs. As Jay scouted the surrounding land he saw several trainers training; by battling each other. There were a lot of people surrounding one particular battle closer to the entrance.

Jay waltzed over casually. As he pushed his way through the crowd he found himself suddenly a spectator at a Pokemon battle. An Ariados and a Ponyta were jumping around, firing attacks in perfect harmony against a Qwilfish and a Nidorino. Jay watched them fight for the next few minutes. They moved so fluidly and gracefully. His Pokemon could certainly learn a thing or two from them... He really hoped he would be able to take down some of these tough opponents.

Wyatt stepped up to the gate, before handing in the stolen pass. The gaurd inspected the red, hardback pass for a few minutes before looking up at Wyatt. He had a scrutinous look etched onto his pimply face.

"Lucinda? Is that your name?" the gaurd smirked. His grey eyes focused on the boy, examining every detail.

The boy had short, spiked-up golden hair. He had slightly-pointed ears and his lips were curling into a sickly smile. He had small brown freckles spread erratically around his face and seemed to lack a chin. The gaurd smiled at the thought of not having a chin and the small boy smiled back, revealing two rows of perfectly-straightened ,pearly-white teeth. He was clad in a bright-red anorak and knee-length kakhi shorts. Around his neck a solid-gold chain necklace hung that had a Pokeball at the bottom. The chain shone brightly from the glaring, strong sunlight, causing the gaurd to squint slightly.

Wyatt paused for a second before replying. "My parents aren't very good with names," he said bluntly.

The gaurd lowered his hand beneath the pine desk and pushed a buzzer. The boy stared at him through the pane of glass and then turned and began to walk through the now-open plastic door. The gaurd let him through, feeling pretty bad. He had suspected almost every trainer that had passed throught the gate of trying to cause some sort of hastle. He shouldn't have picke on the kid because he had a weird name.

"Of course he wouldn't do anything," he muttered to himself as the boy walked through the gate. How wrong the gaurd was.

    "NEXT!"

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The large wooden doors creaked open slowly before the eager trainers. A small man, wearing a bright purple, sik cloak walked out and welcomed everyone individually, as they entered the trainers lounge. He had dark black hair, that had a grey tinge to it at the top. His face was lined with wrinkles and creases. He had a slight look of apprehension.

As Jay walked in the man introduced himself as Ian Braithwite.

"That name sounds familiar," Jay thought aloud. "Oh you must be the registrar for the competition," Jay said hesitantly.

Ian smiled at him. "Well you sure are a smart cookie, aren't you?" he laughed.

Jay nodded, unsure what to say. He sincerely hoped the registrar wasn't patronising him. "Well goodbye," Jay said casually, before walking off, hoping he didn't sound rude.

    ***************************************************

When Jay entered the lobby he saw many other trainers of different ages, nationalities and heights sitting in front of a large monitor, whiich was perched above on a wooden beam. The dark screen was huge. As Jay approached he realised that the monitor was designed to display information in regards to each upcoming battle.

Five battles were schedualed to take place at once. Spectators were encouraged to come and watch the battles and, most imortantly, check out their opponents. According to the wide-screen monitor there were five different battlefields located on each side of the four sides of the building and one near the centre of the of the campus.

Suddenly the screen flashed on and all the talking died down at once. Jay looked at the screen in excitement and was surprised to find out that there was only one hundred candidates. The domed interior created an echo, which caused Jay to suspect there were much more people.

Jay began scanning the screen to see when he would be starting his first battle. He hoped he would get a long enough time to prepare, unfortunately this was not the case. His battle was one of the first five battles and in the East Wing. Jay noticed that he was against someone called Clyde. That was when a boy, who appeared to be about the same age as Jay, stood up.

"Who's Jay?" he called out to the crowd confidently.

Jay raised his hand timidly, before bursting out "I am."

The trainer strode over to Jay, his curly-blue hair bouncing up and down as he walked forward. He extended his right hand for Jay to shake. The guy was slightly smaller than Jay and had a smug, confident look on his face. His vibrant green eyes seemed to radiate confidence.

"Good luck," he said. Jay smiled at him.

"Yeah good lu-" but Clyde interrupted him. "You're going to need it!" Several of the people in the crowd became laughing at his pathetic joke. Jay felt his pale cheeks flush a bright, rosy-red colour. He wasn't going to take any crap from this bully.

"Well, you're going to need the hospital when I'm done with you!" Jay countered triumphantly.

    Edited This Far.

Jay stood at one side of a large playing field. Vegetation covered the soft loomy ground. Jay couldn't help thinking that it would provide excellent hiding places. He rejected these thought, planning on using a fully offensive strategy.

Clyde stood confidently at the other side. He had a plain Pokeballs in either hand. It was hard to tell from where Jay was, but it seemed as though Clyde was trembling. Jay found this peculiar as it was such a pleasant day.

Little did he know that Clyde was a very inexperienced trainer and was using this tournament to prove himself worthy to his family. Clyde took three deep breaths, whilst psyching himself up for the battle.

A man wearing a black and white striped shirt announced himself as the ref. He had a yellow whistle in his hand.

He looked over at Jay and at Clyde before saying "this round has a special rule. Only the opponent can choose what you can use."

Jay turned around to retrieve his opponents stat sheet from the linesman. Clyde did likewise, before looking through Jay's stat page. Clyde's nerves seemed to disappear when he saw a useless Poliwag and even worse, a Catrepie.

"Well Jay. You'll be using a Poliwag and your Catrepie," Clyde chuckled arrogantly. "Try to go easy on me," he concluded nastily.

Jay was worried now. Poliwag was his newest Pokemon and he had not been trained much and Caterpie was not very powerful or useful, for that matter. Jay looked at Clyde's stat page and realised that Clyde had much less Pokemon that him.

"Whismur and Hoppip!" Jay shouted over confidently.

Jay threw his the two red and white Pokeballs out. They each had a special blue star on the top. Poliwag hopped out and Caterpie fell out. Jay sighed when he heard Clyde laughing again.

Clyde's Pokemon emerged from their Pokeballs. The hoppip and Whismur both stuck their tongues out at Jay's Pokemon. Poliwag growled at them and Caterpie hissed venemously.

"Poliwag use Surf! Caterpie try a Bug Bite!" Jay commanded his Pokemon.

"Whismur use Pound and Hoppip put those fools to sleep with your Sleep Powder!" Clyde exclaimed.

Caterpie charged at Whismur and bit down on him hard. Whismur began struggling trying to shrug Caterpie off, forgetting what Clyde commanded. Poliwag shot out a large wave of crystal clear water at the opponents. Hoppip managed to evade it, but it struck Whismur and also Caterpie who was still attached to the Whismur. Hoppip threw small, cotton spores at the Caterpie. Caterpie stiffled a long yawn, before curling up into a ball and falling asleep.

Next, Poliwag smacked into Hoppip with it's tail, knocking the frail Hoppip unconscious rather easily. Whismur used Uproar and caused large rings of sound to come out and hit Poliwag and Caterpie. The sound woke Caterpie up, who attempted to tackle the Whismur, but tripped up over it's own feet as it was still drowsy. Its vibrant green shell glistened with sweat.

Whismur jumped high into the air, before crashing down on Caterpie, knocking him out instantly. Poliwag then threw a large ball of mud at the weakened Whismur, knocking it unconscious also.

It took Jay several seconds before he realised he had won. He yelled in triumph, before summoning hi Pokemon back. Two red beams shot out at his Pokemon, carrying them back to their respective Pokeballs. After this he ran straight out to the lobby eagerly, to see how much points he had earned.

    "Only six?" Jay asked aloud.

Ian strolled over from where he was sitting. Jay did not notice him until he was directly behind him. He jumped, startled.

"I don't understand what's wrong with only six points. Sure you won, but winning isn't everything," he said, almost as if he was dissapointed in Jay.

Jay stood there for a moment, watching Ian dissappear once more.

"Excuse me. Are you Jay?" A quiet, female voice asked.

Jay looked up and saw a nurse Joy. She had bright bubblegum-pink hair in tightly packed curls, just like all her sisters. Their family had specialised in Pokemon healing for many generations and had become a well-repected family, because of their proffesion.

"Could you heal my Pokemon please?" Jay asked her.

"Of course," she replied happily, before scurrying off towards the desk. She crouched down for a moment, looking for something. Afetr a few seconds she stood up, looking puzzled.

"Have you seen my..." she trailed off. "No ... of course you wouldn't have she whispered caalmly.

As Jay was just about to ask what she was wrong, she handed him his Pokeballs roughly and scurried out of the room, clearly agitated.

Jay's first instinct was to run after her, but he didn't want to run the risk of mising his next battle.

He walked over to the main lounge not really focusing when he bumped into Wyatt, who appeared to be equally as distracted.

"Hey what are you doing here?" Jay asked, curious.

Wyatt shoved Jay aside and ran over to where Nurse Joy was moments before hand.

"What is going on?" Jay wondered aloud.

Jay decided it was best to focus on the upcoming match, instead of trouble-bound Wyatt. It didn't take him long to find his upcoming battle on the monitor.

"It appears that I am fighting a trainer called Brian next," Jay murmured. He decide it would be best to wait outside the battlefield until the battle started.

    ******************************************************************************

As Jay stepped out into the bright day. The sun was shining intensely, above the battlefield. Within moments Brian had arrived, alongside the referee, who was clad in his usual attire. Brian was a pretty chunky kid. He had a very messy crop of black hair, placed on his head, giving him the appearence of someone wearing a wig.

The battle got underway rather quickly. The referee announced that this round the trainers could use any one Pokemon they wanted to use. Jay went first. "Come out Clefable and let's show this trainer how tough we really are. Clefable stood there waving his arms about as he waited for the opponents Pokemon to be called out. Brian flipped out a very modern poketch. "Let's see...Aha fighting types are super-effective against normal types" he exclaimed in delight. He rumbled in his pockets for a few seconds before pulling out a small blue Pokeball, with red stripes passing through the center. "Show him who's boss Hitmonlee!" Brian shouted as his Hitmonlee leaped out of it's Pokeball.

"Close Combat now," Brian commanded. His Hitmonlee surged forward towards Clefable, ready to attack with all it's might. "Protect Quick!" Jay shouted. Clefable began moving it's arms around the air, as though it was slotting invisible blocks together. Hitmonlee crashed into the barrier. It tried to shrug off the damage, but it was clearly injured. "Clefable, Magical Leaf, Jay said. Clefable lifted it's small hands above his head. Leaves materialised in front of him. He pointed towards Hitmonlee and then the leaves shot towards Hitmonlee. The leaves battered into Hitmonlee, although it didn't seem to bother him too much. Hitmonlee steadied himself for a moment, then his right foot burst into flames. He struck Clefable with his flaming, foot. Clefable cried out with pain. Suddenly Jay had a flashback. He remembered Ian telling him to love his Pokemon and not allow them to get hurt for his own enjoyment. Jay looked at Clefable, he was staggering to his fight, covered in many burn marks.

"Enough! I forfeit. It is clear you are the better battler. I can't bear to see Clefable hurt anymore."

The referee waved the White flag, in his hand bemusedly. The white flag symbolised the end of the battle. Jay summoned Clefable into it's Pokeball, before heading back to the lounge.

Unbeknownst to Jay, Ian had watched the battle and followed Jay out. "James, I think you handled that extremely well," he said cheerfully. "I shall be awarding you seven points, for your determination and love for your Pokemon."

Jay grinned back at the registrar. "Where is everyone?" Jay asked Ian. Ian began chuckling heartily.

"You don't think you're the only person that has a battle on, do you?" he asked. Jay began laughing, when he realised how foolish he had been.

Just then, the same Nurse Joy from earlier hurried over to Jay and Ian. "Someone has taken the keys to the storage room," she panted.

It looked as though she had been running. "Alert security! Has the prize been taken?"

Ian asked her. She nodded gloomily. They both hurried off in different diections. "Jay search the main entrance," he called out as he was leaving the room. Jay grabbed his travelling bag and began walking outside.

As soon as he stepped back outside into the welcoming sun, Jay saw Wyatt. "

Are you not supposed to be in battle now?" Jay asked, slightly suspicious.

Wyatt jumped in shock and a small golden Pokeball fell out of his pocket. It rolled along the ground for a bit. When it stopped a flash of dazzing red light shot out and a Hippopotas popped out of the Pokeball. It looked rather confused.

"How long have you had tha-" Jay stopped short. It had suddenly dawned on him. "You stole the Pokemon!" Jay shouted over at Wyatt.

Wyatt merely glared at Jay, before retorting. "Let's hope this Pokemon was worth it!" he grunted.

Jay stared over at Wyatt. Anger was building up inside him. So much people had worked so hard to try and win this competition and Wyatt just sneaks in and steals the grand prize. "You're so dead!" Jay yelled, before throwing one of his Pokeballs out.

His Poliwag emerged, glad to be beginning another fight. She assumed it was just a normal fight, until she saw her master. He was shaking with rage and his face had turned ghostly white.

"Poli! Poli!" she shouted at the enemy, Wyatt. She was glad that Jay had chosen her to help.

Jay glanced down at the Poliwag. "Good thing we know our type advantages!" Jay said bitterly. "Show no restraint, Hydro Pump, now!" he roared furiously.

Poliwag had never seen her master so angry before. He was usually so passive. She opened her mouth wide, baring her little, jagged teeth. She shot a powerful jet of cool water at the startled Hippopotas.

"My, my. This Hippopotas is special for a reason. It wount lose to something so ... primitive as that!" he said, egging Jay on. "Take that Hydro Pump and use your Curse attack!" Wyatt screamed.

Hippopotas remained motionless, until the jet of water struck him in the face, knocking him backwards several feet. But he shrugged it off, barely harmed by it. Hippopotas steadied itself, whilst it began concentrating on using it's Curse attack.

"Double Edge now, Hippopotas!" Wyatt laughed.

Hippopotas lunged up high into the air. It looked a lot tougher than before, now that it had a Curse under it's belt. Although Jay knew about Curse's other, non-benefivial effect.

"Poliwag, it should be much slower now, so dodge this attack and try a Tail Whip!" Jay commanded.

As Hippopotas came falling down from above Poliwag, Poliwag jumped gracefully out of the waye

Not a Grader. Just trying to help out a fellow writer who asked.

Just some little grammatical errors I found over a quick breeze through. Also, watch your spacing. You should start a new paragraph every time the speaker changes. I noticed some random paragraphing issues you might want to look over. Certain details feel like you forced them and they are just kind of out of place. But from what I can tell so far, it is an interesting story.

Okay, quick thing: I'd put the story-break a paragraph above. Where you have it now doesn't allow the whole "girl walks up behing him" suspense thing to continue.
