Today is the day. I’m setting off on my new journey. The professor gave me my very first Pokemon, a Chimchar. It’s my goal to become the most powerful trainer in the region, take on the champion, defeat her in battle, and take their place. Everyone will know my name! But first, I need to expand my team.

That’s why I’m wandering through this forest. I’m searching for powerful Pokemon to add to my team and lead me to victory. I wonder what I’ll find in these spooky woods. A Gengar? A Rotom? A Celebi? Arceus?

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement. Now’s my chance! I looked over to the source of the movement and saw the target of my first Pokemon battle.

    Burmy.

My heart skipped a beat. This would be incredible! I once heard a story that Burmy’s evolved form sold for $100,000 in an auction. Surely it must be one of the most powerful and fearsome Pokemon in the world! I sent out my Chimchar to battle the Burmy. I can see it now. I’d be registering my dream team in the hall of fame: Chimchar, Burmy… hey, wait a second!

The Burmy was running away! I didn’t even tell my Chimchar to attack it yet, and it was scampering off! Talk about rude.

    “Chimchar, after it!” I ordered.

Chimchar pursued the Burmy and was quickly catching up. There’s no way it can get away from us. I immediately took off into a sprint.

    Thud.

I tripped and fell. I guess I should have paid more attention to where I was running.

“Uhh, Chimchar, wait for me!” I called out.

Chimchar came back and patiently waited for me to get up. I spent a few moments looking for the Burmy, then saw it in the distance. Chimchar and I ran after it again- this time a little more cautiously- but this time it had a much bigger head start. It hopped along the ground, eventually jumping into a bush. Was it hiding from us? Did it hope to lose us, thinking a mere bush would stop us?

I reached the bush and started to push through it. Ow, what’s that? I looked down. The bush was filled with thorns! I could hear my Chimchar squealing to me behind me. I turned around, and saw it pointing to my side towards a parting in the foliage. I slowly and painfully stepped back out of the thorny bush and ran off toward the parting, ran through it, and gazed at the other end of the bush in horror.

It was the Burmy. There was another trainer fighting it with his Starly. The trainer threw a Pokeball at the Burmy, and it was teleported inside the ball. The ball fell to the ground and wobbled once. It wobbled again. It stopped for a second, then wobbled one final time and sealed itself shut. The other trainer had successfully captured my prey.

My journey is over. It’s impossible to complete now. That Burmy was going to be a key part of my team, a monstrous force to strike fear into my opponent’s hearts. Dragons, legends, gym leaders, the elite four, even the champion would have cowered before me! But it’s hopeless now. It’s all over.

I heard a noise behind me. I turned around.

    It was another Burmy.

    Preamble:

Given the low rank – and subsequently, low character count – and the request of the author for a fast grade given certain time constraints – ‘tis the season to be jolly – I won’t overextend myself here.

    Description:

While practically non-existent, given the feel I think you were going for with the story (a comedic in-joke) and the terseness of the story in itself it works. That said I must, emphasize that this only works because it’s a very short story whose tone was set by dramatic irony.

Future pieces will likely be harmed by a lack of description, so please keep it in mind.

Plot and Action, or the Climax:

The plot is the standard cliché plot for the URPG, and strictly speaking it isn’t quite resolved; there’s some sense of rising action – Burmy runs away and the trainer chases after it – but it’s almost immediately resolved and I’d go so far as to say that the current ending could work as the beginning of a stronger climax.

It’s worth reminding that this plot is likely to draw an eye roll from graders should you ever use in something more advanced and will work against you.

To me the story was amusing not strictly because of the textual elements contained within but more because of the dramatic irony – “Burmy must be a strong Pokémon” when we know it’s not quite, at least not in a rigorous battling environment such as the URPG – and topical humor – “Seppe spent 100k on a Mothim, lol” – which aren’t necessarily bad things, but it’s worth reminding that it won’t carry the story for a longer piece.

    Conclusion:

Good enough for an easiest Pokemon though, so you got a bagworm.

    Huzzah.
