Monthly Art Challenge: August 2018 Edition!

But first--an announcement and a surprise!

My lovely co-head, VeloJello, and I are happy to announce a new addition to the Art section. Since the sketchbook prompts for Invitational went so well, we're instating them permanently! We've tweaked it a little, so here's how Sketchbook Prompts will work:
  • At the beginning of each month, depending on the length of the month, three to four Sketchbook prompts will be posted along with the monthly theme.
  • Each week of the month will have an assigned prompt that needs to be completed during it.
  • During that week, completing that prompt will give you an extra $500 for that sketch.
  • The sketch must be completed during its assigned week to count!
  • Those who do all prompts during the month will receive an additional $1,000 on top of other bonuses.


Let's kick it off with:

Monthly Sketchbook Prompts: August 2018 Edition!

Your prompts for this month are:
  • August 1st - August 7th: Snoozles! Draw a Pokemon sleeping. The more adorable, the better!
  • August 8th - August 14th: Roll-A-Mon! Roll a random Pokemon to draw. My favorite site to use is Random Pokemon. Post a screenshot of your roll with your sketch for validity!
  • August 15th - August 21st: Limited Color Palette! This sketch must be in color, but there's a catch--you can only color with two different colors! Shades and tints of these colors are allowed, but no other colors--and yes, black counts as a color! White does too, but not if it's your background color. The background can be any color you want, but it'll count as one of your two colors!
  • August 22nd - August 31st: Variants! You'll have a little more time on this potentially more difficult prompt! Whether Alolan, regional, seasonal, or other, create some sort of design variant on an existing Pokemon!

Monthly Art Challenge: August 2018 Edition!

Here's the run-down on how it works. Every month, I'll post a set of themes or parameters to follow. URPG members can make art, using any medium, and if it's posted during that month and fits the theme appropriately, they earn cash in addition to the Pokemon they're trying to capture, regardless if it passes or fails. Curators will also earn a bonus if they curate a piece of artwork in a timely manner.

For now, this is only applicable to artists twice per month as a trial period. If it works out, the limit might be removed. We'll see. Curators receive a bonus for all the art they curate, so long as it's in the correct time frame.
Curators, please address the theme when you curate a piece of work to tell the artist if their art applies to the bonus or not. Artists, please use common sense when fulfilling the themes. The art should incorporate one of the themes in an important/meaningful way to qualify for the bonus.

For example, if the theme is the ocean and an artist only draws one seashell sitting in the corner, this does not count for the theme. This goes for colors too—they should have some meaning and be purposeful, not just be there on a whim or by lucky chance. If desired, artists can type out a short paragraph explaining which themes they went for and why they think it fits that month's parameters.

**Note that the monthly theme only applies to capture attempts and not cash.

However, this bonus does count toward your Legend Tracker for both artists and curators.
Rewards

For Artists:
  • Simple or Easiest Rank – 2k
  • Medium Rank+ - 5k


For Curators:
  • 1k extra per piece
  • Must be curated before 1 week after the month ends


August Prompts
Genre prompts will be going dormant again for a bit, though they may return in the future.

For many, summer is slowly settling to an end. School looms on the Augustan horizon as summer break comes to a rapid close! This month's prompts are meant to pay homage to the last free, lazy days of summer! Honor the nights spent stargazing, or the adventures into the heat for ice cream. Other themes include peace, relaxation, and vacation--nothing but good vibes going into September, you hear?

  • Relaxation
  • Vacation


Feel free to post any art within the month of August including one or more of these things to receive the bonus. If you could, please put a [AUG] tag in the thread name or on the art pieces you want to count for that month. Remember, artists can only get the bonus twice. Once we see how this plays out, it may be adjusted.
