[SWC] The story with shellder and stuff

Best story name ever. Much creativity. Such perfectness. Very wow.

Took me 5 months to write this due to lack of attention span. I would write 2,000 characters in a half hour then not touch the story again for a month. As you probably predicted, I'm trying to catch a shellder.

It was a beautiful day, as it always was in the ocean. I could see the sun shining on the surface of the water above me. To my left I could see a brown Pokemon with five limbs and a red gem in it’s center. It’s gem shined brightly in the sunlight, attracting several small Pokemon of various species to examine it. From crevices in the rocks around me, I noticed several fish emerging. The fish were mostly round, but had a small tail sticking out the back. The round part was covered in spikes. The top half of it was bluish, but the bottom half was a pale yellow, much like the color of sand.

Spinning myself around, I rapidly opened and closed my shell in a way that would propel myself backwards. It was a clumsy and inefficient way of travel, but it was the only way I could achieve. “Some day when I evolve,” I would tell myself, “I will be able to swim with ease.” For the time being though, I was simply a Shellder.

Swimming through the water, I felt myself began to get pulled along by a current. I stopped my movement and decided to go with the flow (literally). I relaxed for a few moments before I began to spin myself around, taking in my surroundings. There were far less rocks around than before, but the sea floor was far from empty. Everywhere I looked, I saw Pink Pokemon with strange, almost branch like growths on their backs. They had 4 small legs and 2 small arms made out of similar looking growths. “Corsola” I thought, watching the dozens of coral Pokemon going about their business. From time to time, one would briefly look up at me curiously before returning to its business.

I spent so long watching the Corsola that I completely forgot my original goal: Find food. Quickly spinning, I began swimming off to where I thought food could be found. While typically Cloyster are carnivores, I, being only a shellder, needed to find something a little easier. Seeing a patch of seaweed, I decided to stop there. Spinning myself towards the seaweed, I inched myself forward, struggling to direct my mouth towards the strands of seaweed. Eventually I got it right and bit down, consuming a large chunk of the slimy stuff. I didn’t particularly like the texture, but it tasted better than most other easily obtainable alternatives.

Taking another bite, I felt a sharp pain shoot through my mouth. I opened my mouth, releasing green clumps of half chewed seaweed into the water. I was attempting to figure out what had caused the pain when suddenly I felt it again. Next thing I knew, I was being pulled towards the surface. My mouth began to fill with the taste of blood. Panicking, I tried to open and close my shell in an attempt to pull in the opposite direction, but this only made the pain worse. After several seconds of this, the pain became unbearable and I stopped moving.

The next thing I knew, I was pulled through the surface of the water. The pain in my mouth got a lot worse. It shot through my whole body, causing me to go limp. I was being suspended in the air by a string attached to whatever had been stuck in my mouth. I heard voices coming from somewhere, but at the angle I was suspended at, I couldn’t see where.

Suddenly I felt something grab me by the shell. In a another moment, I saw a hand in front of me, holding a strange metal tool. The tool was reached into my mouth, and in moments the pain in it eased. Out with the tool came a sharp metallic object, as well as several drops of blood. Finally, just when I thought my brain would explode from lack of air, I felt the cool touch of water surrounding me. Disoriented, I tried to figure out where I was and exactly what had just happened.

looking around, I could tell I was in a container of some sort filled with water. I was on a small metal boat, and at the front were two humans. One was male, and the other was female. Though I had not seen many humans before, I could tell that they were fairly young. The male human was fairly tall, though I couldn’t make an accurate guess to his height. He wore black shorts and a torn up white sleeveless shirt. He wore no shoes, and his feet were dirty. His hair was brown and short, and his eyes were a similar shade of brown. The female human was about an inch or two shorter than the male, and she wore blue jean shorts. She wore a sleeveless white shirt, comparable to the one worn by the male human, but different. She had fairly long brown hair, and brown eyes that were a shade lighter than the male. Both of the humans held a pole. From the tip of each pole a string hung down, with a sharp piece of metal on each end.

“They got you too?” I heard a voice say. Startled, I spun myself around. Somehow, despite the container being just barely big enough to fit both of us, I had failed to notice the fact that I was alone. Another Shellder sat next to me.

“Uh… Yeah…” I said, not knowing what else to say. I kept looking at the other Shellder for a few moments, expecting another question, but none came. Having little to no interest in having a conversation with the other Pokemon, I spun away from it, looking back towards the human.

“How am I going to get out of here?” I thought, looking around for ideas. My first instinct was to swim to the surface of the water. I opened and closed my shell, pushing myself upwards. The back of my shell poked out of the water. It only felt the warm touch of the humid air for a moment before being plunged back into the cool water. Trying again, I attempted to push myself out and over the edge of the container. Once more I felt the strange feeling of air on my shell. My shell bumped into the edge of the container, but I was not strong enough to force my way over the top. The water just wasn’t high enough.

“Just give up, don’t you think I’ve tried that already?” Said the other Shellder. I ignored his comment, not willing to lose hope as he had. I tried again. And again. And yet again. Eventually I couldn’t keep going and had to stop. Sinking back down to the bottom of the container, I landed facing the other Shellder.

“Are you done yet?” He said, speaking in a tone that made me wonder if he even wanted to escape.

“Maybe…” I said in response. I looked up at the surface of the water, contemplating if I should try again or not. In the end I decided that it wasn’t going to work. I couldn’t think of anything else to try though. Despite this, I knew I couldn’t lose hope like the other Shellder had.

It would take another half hour before I would get an opportunity to escape. While from within my glass prison I couldn’t tell why at the time, the male human pointed out off the right side of the boat. The female human looked out and a surprised look appeared on her face. So quickly I barely had time to register what was happening, the boat began to shake. Both of the humans grabbed on to the side of the boat, trying to keep themselves from falling off. The boat lifted up, nearly tipping over as a massive wave struck it, splashing water into it. Within seconds the wave had passed, leaving the humans in the boat shaken. The female slowly stood up and looked around. The male was quick to follow.

Looking around, I saw about an inch of water sitting at the bottom of the boat. Looking up, I also saw an additional inch of water at the top of the container that trapped me. An idea for escape then occurred to me. “The water in the container is almost overflowing.”

I thought that I might be able to swim up and push myself out over the edge of the tank, as I had attempted earlier. I began to spin around when I heard the voice of my fellow prisoner shoot out from next to me.

“Won’t you just give up already? Haven’t you realised that we can’t get out?” I had no intention of acknowledging his statement though. I began pushing myself towards the top of the tank again. With one final push, I attempted again to push myself over the edge of the top of the tank. I felt my shell hit the top of the container.

“Let me try this a little different.” I thought, angling my body at a slightly different angle and pushing myself up towards the top one last time. I could only imagine how wide the eyes of the other Shellder opened when I pushed over the top, hitting the bottom of the wooden boat like a rock, causing the inch of water sitting there to splash around. The humans quickly took notice. First the male human turned around and saw. I could hear he said something. I would assume he was attempting to warn the female of my escape.

It was then that I noticed the lack of water. I couldn’t breath. Quickly I began opening and closing my shell, only to realise that I couldn’t maneuver outside of water. I flopped around like a beached Magikarp, trying to toss myself over the edge of the boat. Suddenly a hand reached down and grabbed me. It only held on for a second thought before I slipped out. Flopping around some more, I managed to land on the foot of the male human. I quickly closed my shell, clamping my shell closed on top of it. The human let out a yelp of pain. In an effort to get me off, it lifted up it’s leg and shook it around. I refused to let go though, using all my strength to hold on. The female human grabbed, lifting the male’s leg up even further. Suddenly, I felt myself moving, and soon I, as well as the human, were in the water.

It appeared that the human had lifted his leg so high, he lost balance and fell backwards into the water. Mildly dazed from the sudden splash back into the water, it took me a second to release the humans foot.

“I’m free!” I thought. Light headed from a lack of oxygen, I slowly spun myself around. I had just begun to swim away when I felt something grab me from behind. It was a hand.

I frantically began to resist, but it was useless. I shivered as once more I felt the touch of air on my shell. Looking around, I desperately looked for a way to escape. Suddenly I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was the tank I had been locked in with the other shellder.

“Is… Is that shellder trying to break the glass?” I thought, just barely able to see the shelled Pokemon’s shape hitting the glass. “Is the glass… Cracking?”

My question was quickly answered as a flood of water washed from the end of the boat, the water type being flushed forward with it. The human who had grabbed me leaned down in an attempt to grab the other Shellder, shaking me in the process, but instead found her hand stuck in it’s shell. The Shellder bit down. In the humans surprise, she released her grasp of me, allowing me to fall back into the water. Barely conscious from lack of oxygen, I hit the water like a rock.

Exhausted, I simply allowed myself to drift. Down towards the bottom I floated, watching the suns light as it sparkled on the waves of the ocean surface.
