    More Legends in URPG

Heh, and you thought I was done.

    URPG Legends

Mission: To get more Legends into the URPG. You have been chosen to partake in this mission.

If you haven't noticed, Legends are kinda hard to get. There's only a couple of methods in place, and these take place very rarely. As such, people always put the Legend Clause on and worry about facing them in important battles.

Well, we've solved this problem! Now there are a lot more ways to obtain a Legendary Pokemon. A permanent Legendary Pokemon. In keeping with the spirit of URPG, they will take a lot of effort, but they are certainly achievable!

    Current ways to get legends:
    • Legend Defender (15 defends with 8 unique challengers)
    • Become Champion
    • Win a Writing Competition (sometimes, if 15+ entrants)

    New ways to get legends:
**Note that these are NOT retroactive.
    • Art: Earn $1 million
    • Story: Earn $1 million
    • RP (AH, Park, and forum RP battle posts but not Ranger posts): reach 500k words (not characters)
    • Contests: Earn 10 Master Rank ribbons on different Pokemon with at least one ribbon of each attribute
    • Professions:
      • Refs: Earn $1 million
      • Rangers: Earn $1 million
      • Graders: Earn $1 million
      • Curators: Earn $1 million
      • Judges: Earn $1 million (both $ and CC count towards this combined)
      • Chroniclers: Earn $1 million (if claiming wages in P, use conversion rate for tracking)

    How to Track This

It's highly suggested to make a thread or separate post in your stats to track your earnings in each area, much like people already do for their wages in each profession. This is exactly like that, with a couple things to keep in mind:

    • Tracking posts should display each amount earned; for example, If I earned 40k in my next reffing wages, then 30k after, I would list both of them independently. If I drew 3 pictures, I would make an entry for each one individually. Feel free to add total/subtotal values somewhere, but we want to see the individual amounts too.
    • You can keep track of totals in your profession log if you want as long as you include wage links and note when tracking for Legends starts. For Judges, marking the starting post and keeping a running total will work; when claiming, link both starting post and ending post.
    • All amounts must have a link. No exceptions. They don't count if you don't have a link.
    • Stories and Art have to pass to count.
    • Both capture and cash submissions for Art and Stories count. Capture attempts will use the same money value scale for ranks as cash does for tracking purposes. If a story is a capture attempt and features multiple Pokemon, they each count separately. For example, if I write a capture story with two Medium Pokemon, I get to count 20k toward my Legend total (10+10), etc. Capture attempts will use the same scale as cash attempts:
      Spoiler:

      • Easiest - 3k
      • Simple - 5k
      • Medium - 10k
      • Hard - 15k
      • Complex - 25k
      • Demanding - 40k
      • Merciless - 55k
      • Stupefying - 70k

    • To make it easier to count, it might be a good idea to put word count in your AH and Park posts.

    Extras
    • Keep in mind, these are NOT retroactive. There's no digging up ref logs from years back showing us how you've made 5 million already. However, we are allowing a grace period. Everything posted after the new year (2016 date) counts toward your totals. Merry late Christmas, URPG, and Happy New Year.
      • This includes on-going runs and missions—any post starting 2016 counts.
      • Future chapters of multi-chaptered fics count if they're posted starting 2016, even if the original story started in 2015.
      • Unfinished stories and art already posted on the forum count when you finish them.
      • Unfinished battles carry over even if they started in 2015.
    • To obtain your Legend, post in the Legend Log thread (BMG | PWN | PXR) with a link to your tracking post so we can approve and add you to the list.
    • This method is not buying! You do not have to save the money earned from these endeavors. This is a tracking thread for participation within each section and just a nice little bonus rewarding lots of activity.
    • These permanent Legends do not come with free EMs.
    • No, Legends are still not allowed on regular gym lineups.

Legends are now available for everyone who puts in enough effort in whatever field they choose. Consider trying something new or perhaps applying for one of the URPG professions!

Why not simply remove the Legend Clause?

Removing the Legend Clause would only allow those few people who have legends to use them more often - it wouldn't do anything to allow more people to actually obtain them.

The goal of this isn't to allow people with legends to stomp everyone, it's to get more legends into battles in (hopefully) legend vs legend battles. Situations where you would CHOOSE not to use the legend clause because you're able to battle at that level with your own.

What's wrong with letting those that earned their Legend from using it how they wish?

Ensuring that the rest of the community still enjoys the game. While we could allow a small number of people to use these high-powered Pokemon however they wan't, that wouldn't be a good decision for the greater community.
Instead, I strongly believe making legends a much more all-inclusive battling option is a better decision, allowing people to feel much more comfortable participating in a game which includes these Pokemon.

So, we've added additional ways for people to earn a Legend, thus opening up the playing field in a way that additional people would be willing to let Legends be used however they/others wish.

It all started with the switch to allowing Permanent Legends. My main concern about this is the increasing gap between new Trainer and experienced Trainer. When you have Legendaries as prizes, anyone can win them including someone just starting. However, the way this system is, only those that already have experience in the game and have been here awhile will be able to earn them.

Legends were meant as a trophy, really. They were not meant to stay with one person for too long. They were a rare, one time thing that only a few could claim to have owned. Give them to everyone and you trivialize that claim and make them nothing more than a Pokemon that you grind for.

Balance is very important in the URPG and I know this is what you're trying to achieve. We'll see how this turns out as the year progresses.

Keep in mind that we aren't altering the current ways to obtain Legendaries. You can still do LD, become Champion, or win a Writing Comp to get a Legendary, which were the only ways in the past. Also note that, barring maybe the Writing Comp, it's almost impossible for "anyone" to win them, especially not newer members--you need to grind to a massively competitive team to obtain and defend LD/or become Champion.

I would argue that, besides the trophy point, very little has changed regarding the rarity of Legends. They're available in return to truly legendary feats. Reaching any of these goals is a massive achievement, and we wanted to emphasize that.

    Cool.
