WHADDUP FAM. Is it March already? No? That's okay; we're having the end-of-year awards somewhat closer to the end of the year, for once! From Mothim memes to tournament upsets to tons of new and old faces, 2016 was a pretty cool year for the community, so let's see what we think about it!

If you would prefer, I can also accept votes over PM! It'll be fun.

In a series of communication mishaps that are truly the stuff of legend, this post is entirely on time and full of rousing speeches and you will all adore it.

but without further ado, and in full tradition of announcing awards well into the next year, allow me to welcome you to

| URPG 2016 AWARDS NIGHT |

Our first winner is a double-header! URPG, your Best Author and Favorite Author is:
[B @Smiles !!![/B] With a thrilling collection of published works this year ranging from the teenage angst of Welcome to Sunnyside all the way up to a mammoth of an existential masterwork whose title my keyboard literally doesn't have the correct keys for, Smiles's prose has drawn our tears, coaxed our laughs, and won our hearts. All hail the queen!


Writing honorable mentions go to Loot, whose ongoing story crafts a rich, character-filled world on the brink of war, and Origamidragons, whose huge array of works ranging from bittersweet to adorable to super dark to ten shades darker is even doubly impressive for how recently she joined!


But the phenomenal writing doesn't stop here. You voted on your Favorite Roleplayer and found:

[B @Smiles[/B] is a fabulous gal of many hats! Prolific for basically founding and running After Hours, aka best subforum, she's also got a kickass Park run full of trademark cheer and maybe even some Pokemon catching!


This was a hotly-contested award, with honorable mentions also going to the fabulous Winter, the ever-posting Magik, the amazing LHC, the kickass Origamidragons, and I'm seriously out of superlatives but K'sariya is great too.


I can't even make this **** up. Your Best Roleplayer is:

Also Smiles, breathing tons of fire and blowing everyone back on these categories. BUT IT'S ALSO A TIE.

She is beauty, she is grace, she is @K'sariya !! After Hour's newest rising star, K'Sariya is well on the road to being a kickass Chronicler and an amazing roleplayer. Watch the adventures of Kit and Arcturus unfold as K'Sariya breathes haunting life into their words.


And, welcome to our first non-Smiles victor Best Coordinator!:

All hail the king of sneks and king of contests, @Johnbdm ! I honestly don't know anything about this section, but snek has to be good.


Coordinator honorable mention goes to Rick (and Iris)!


At the end of the day, we do love our refs. We really do. We just happen to show our love for hours of dedication to tiny mechanics by clamoring for more! Give it up to the Best Referee aka:

[B @swiftgallade46 [/B]Gallant and steadfast, Swifty knows how it's done! He makes mistakes almost never, refs four battles and a FFA simultaneously, and doesn't return my texts!


Best ref honorable mentions go to Winter, whose reflog is older, larger, and more majestic than a Mamoswine, and Seppe, whose salt is only surpassed by his skill in reffing!


But our best and our favorites are not always the same. Favorite Referee is:

[B @Xali[/B] ! Couldn't find a good soviet bidoof gif, but Xali's got good **** and knows how to do it well.


Fav Ref honorable mentions go to Felly, who honestly refs really well despite the jokes, Monbrey, who honestly refs more than we say he does, and Morru, who honestly... uh, is a pretty good ref!


For Best Grader and Favorite Grader, you guys voted me, but nothing in the world is gonna make me write up an actual spiel for that lolz. I pass the award on by proxy to all of the grading squad, with special shoutouts to the honorable mentions of:

For Best Ranger, here to put her foot down:

@WinterVines , queen of the park! When she's not keeping the park from burning down, Winter helps dozens of new trainers find their way through the Park and to greater adventure.


For our Favorite Ranger, we have:

[B @Mistral [/B], who runs in circles to keep the Park alive! With characteristic fervor and detail, Felly's park posts and guaranteed to keep your adventure exciting!


Ranger honorable mentions include Magik, whose most recent burst of activity is a wonder to behold and LowlyHumanCub, whose runs on PWN are always a pleasure to read.


Our Best Judge and Favorite Judge is non other than:

[B @Morru[/B] ! Full of flair and style, this firebender is no scarred, exiled prince -- he's the younger, edgier, more brooding version with 900% more judging!


Into the realm of visual art, we find our Best Curator is another double header between:
@WinterVines and @Embreon !! Could not find a gif that combined these well. V sorry. But your frost queen and art grandma are always glad to run your art through the gauntlet and return it to you with a million pounds of glorious advice, all so that we may one day draw half as well as they do.


Your Favorite Curator is uncontested:

@Embreon will always be our story granny, but she's found another lawn to shake the new kids off of. With blisteringly in-depth critiques that are waaaaay more helpful and cheerful than they logically should be, Emma's talent, patience, and kindness are pivotal in making her art curations a huge part of the section.


Curator honorable mentions go to Sou, for her upbeat kindness and keen eye for visual appearance, Elrond, who knows fox biology and is not afraid to use it, and Julio, whose stuff I tried to link to but he curates so much that it was futile to link to them all.


And the sun doesn't set here. Your Favorite Artist and Best Artist is also @Embreon !! I'm running into the image limit soon so I can't post all of her amazing stuff, but this is a really cool Alola-Ninetales (haha geddit), this balloon ride picture fills me with warm fuzzy feelings, and this Mudsdale looks like a badass.


Art honorable mentions go to Sou, whose gallery is full of fairy-themed and adorable works, and The Protobabe, whose stuff from this year I actually can't find but she was so prolific that you guys voted her enough times for it to be statistically significant, which is pretty notable in itself.


And back again, this time to claim back-to-back Best Chronicler and Favorite Chronicler @Smiles sneaks in for the kill and also nukes the image limit. The queen of After Hours, aka still best forum, Smiles creates countless threads full of wonder and adventure. If you honestly want to see why she keeps coming up so often, join her in a thread and have a look for yourself!


Chronicling honorable mentions go to AceTrainerLiam and Sou, aka chronicler squad!


This was a close one. But after a characteristically close fight, Best Battler goes to:

[B @Synthesis ! [/B]After a nail-biting battle that's sure to stay in the history books, 2016(ish) was a memorable year for Syn and the rest of URPG for the sheer fact that it witnessed the rise of great new champion!


That isn't to say that the throne isn't uncontested. Close behind, and with honorable mention, is none other than Ash K., who is always ready for a battle, and is sure to give us a thrilling sequel to this tale of star-crossed battlers.


In fact, so uncontested is this throne that your Best Gym Leader, defying every tenet of the anime, is:

He's gonna be the very best, like no one ever was. He's @Ash K. , his battle record is impeccable, and he's not afraid to use it. With almost a decade of experience under his belt, the Wrath of Hoenn ensures that Hoenn will never go down without a fight.


Honorable mention for best gym leaders go to the shocking Synthesis of Nimbasa, the equally shocking Xali of Sunyshore, Mikey, and also not-Mikey, both of Castlevania aka bugs don't know how to spell!


Favorite URPG Mod/Official was a really messy, lumpy tie, so shoutouts to the staff fam for being cool yay circlejerk


Our Coolest Member actually likes water types, so I can't make ice jokes,

but [B @Nitro[/B] is an awesome, 100% certified cool dude!

Cool, honorable mentions go to Synthesis, Morru, and also no one. lol.

I would make some pun about how this is a shocker, but let's leave the humor to our Funniest Member, [B @Synthesis[/B]

With lots of funny honorable mentions: Xali, Morru, Fawkes, and Swift.


I am actually out of Ninetales gifs. This doesn't stop our Nicest Member from being non other than [B @Smiles[/B], who is literally so nice that people think it's a joke. If you're having a rough day, talk to this bundle of sunshine and you will never feel sad again.


Nice honorable mentions go to Sou, John, Bluetowel, and Magik! So much kindness and love!


Launching into action, our Fastest Growing Member is:

@Johnbdm, the snek king! He only joined a few months ago, but there's so many memes about him I bet you can't even tell!


That isn't to say that he went uncontested for this spot! There were tons of new, prolific members that helped make 2016 a blast: join me in welcoming Origamidragons, Menegoth, LowlyHumanCub, Juliorain, GrayMagic(Beta), K'sariya, and Weir to this crazy online family!


But even the bravest new members can use some help. Join me in thanking our Most Helpful Member:

@Magikchicken ! His hard work and optimism in organizing URPG's Sun/Moon Invitational event, his continued guidance of the younger generation, and his availability to approve literally everything and give you some questionable Underground rolls is a display of dedication that we cannot allow to go unnoticed!


Honorable mentions go also to Swift for his open-mind, enormous heart, and desire to improve the community as a whole; and Winter, for her long-standing role as mentor, moderator, and mamoswine queen!


Not all heroes wear capes. Our Most Dedicated Members are non other than:

[B @Ataro [/B], Ultradex king, and

@Monbrey , aka he who runs the rest of the stuff! It's really hard to express how much these guys do for us: imagine using URPG without any of the infohub, Discord, and only the OG damage formula/excel sheet for reffing -- that's basically where we would be without them. We may not always say it aloud, but take this opportunity to thank these guys for all of the incredible volunteer work they do to keep us running.


Honorable mentions go to Winter, who runs a billion sections at once; our fearless leader Harry, who might not kill me for taking so long with these things; and Ash K., who is always happy to help with the minutiae of battling.
