Understanding the Process
Of all the things, he found a fossil on his first dig. A fossil! Unfortunately, due to him being a guest of Ronald’s, he was unable to claim any money for the find himself. He equated that to a game of Craps, where the shooter typically didn’t win anything for their outside participation. However, the winner may be generous and slip some chips his way, as a way of thanks.
To be a good sport, Ronald gave him a clean $500, which was worth two days of work. Unaware of the value, Rick thanked him for the much needed money. And with that, the day was done. If this had happened to anyone else, they might never go back and continue on with their mediocre life. But not someone like Rick Morris.
-
The next day he went back. He couldn’t sleep nor stop thinking about The Underground. He wanted to know more about it. No- he HAD to know more about it. It compelled him. The twitch in his eye and his strong beating heart wouldn’t let him think of anything else.
“$2,500 for only a month!!”
On his current salary and lifestyle, he can’t afford that. He needed the money for... other, more important issues. But that experience yesterday, added on with his past experiences, he couldn’t resist. He HAD to buy a pass. But rather than go immediately and dig, he wandered around the site to learn the system and what it was.
There are Underground locations in every main city with tunnels branching underneath the entire league. Each Underground was similar in organization. There’s the rental booth with shovels, picks and backpacks for members to borrow and return. They also have stuff for sale, for those digging connoisseurs. This was possibly where Ronald bought all his gear.
There’s a food booth, for refreshments and tables to take breaks at. No membership required. Around the corner are four merchant stands related to any of the treasures found in the caves.
Research. The local researcher accepts all fossils here for cash or you can have them revive the Pokemon for you, for a hefty price. The process can take anywhere from one week to a month.
Jeweler. This person will buy any jewels, gems or dust for straight up cash. Like a Pawn Shop.
Daycare. This person, whom oddly wears a rabbit outfit, will teach Pokemon rare moves in trade of Heart Scales. Unfortunately, they don’t outright buy the scales for cash.
Items. Everything else goes here. You can keep it yourself, or they will buy it for cheap in order to resell it later via the PokeMart.
Looking at the values of all the items that can be found, the highest value are fossils, rare pearls and nuggets. And even though he found a fossil first try, he might not ever see another one again. So, not thinking about the high end, Rick looked at the best value to item ratio, which turned out to be jewels. The problem was, if this game was truly random, then there would be no way to specifically find jewels or anything specific for that matter.
His hand twitched under tension. He HAD to find a way to break the system. It was just like counting cards. He had been sitting at the tables for half a day, reading pamphlets, watching diggers come and go, and taking notes his old red casino book. No one had found anything more than some blue jewels. He wondered, just how rare is rare. One day won’t be enough to become an expert and he’ll never become one if he doesn’t do anything.
This was his personal day and he wasn’t going to waste it, like he usually did. So, he prepared to dig, taking notes and statistics on every bit. He could smell the bills filling his wallet......
