Mini-Run - Paleo (Sandy Beach)

NBP 1:

Buzz had noticed a very inactive office, there didn't seem to be many rangers doing anything. He was the only one around today as well. He noticed that the special event flier that promoted the new members of the park had fallen from the notice board. He went and picked it up and noticed a small sign up listed at the bottom. He wandered over to the desk, and quickly printed off the last sign up as the event was closing.

A trainer named Tyson wanted to head over to the sandy beach. Buzz nodded and quickly raced off to his corner office to grab his supplies and Poké Balls from the desk. The event hadn't been as hugely popular as some of the upper staff had hoped with very few applicants, but the runs that had been taken seemed to enjoyed by the trainers.

Buzz wandered out of the office with backpack pulled over his shoulder, the six foot man sat at a bench waiting patiently for his trainer to appear at headquarters. The sun was out and shining very brightly today, though that meant very little given the size of the national park each area had its own climate and he was sure things would be different by the time they got out past the lakes.

Buzz quickly double checked the Poké Balls he had on his belt, he wasn't sure what he would encounter at the beach so it was important to have a nice variety of Pokémon and since the trainer was new this was even more important. Once certain he had the Pokémon he needed he quickly pulled out his tablet from his backpack, while he waited.

Arriving at the office he had been directed to, Tyson Amarin stopped walking and looked around for a bit. The sun was shining here and the temperature was pleasant. He liked it that way. Far away, light grey clouds were visible, but it would take a while for those to reach this place. However, Tyson didn't know how far away the beach was where he wanted to go, so he should be prepared for worse weather there than there was around the office. It was quite quiet around the office, there was only one person to be seen.

This man was sitting on a bench in the warm sunlight, while looking at a tablet computer. The absence of any other people let Tyson to think that this man was his Ranger for this trip. A faint breeze played around the light material of his football shirt as Tyson started walking towards the man who, as Tyson could now see, had several Pokéballs on his belt. Semi-consciously, his left hand felt at his backpack. He could clearly distinguish the two spherical objects in the side pocket: the Pokéballs containing Forte and Sudo, his Pokémon.

He was now only a few meters away from the man on the bench, who looked up at him now. Tyson introduced himself: "Hi there! My name is Tyson. I'm here for the Mini Run Event. Are you Buzz?"

NBP 2:
A tall guy was walking down the path towards Buzz, wearing a football shirt along with jeans. Buzz was still absorbed in his tablet as the person spoke, "Hi there! My name is Tyson. I'm here for the mini run event. Are you Buzz?"

Buzz looked up and nodded. He smiled happily as he rammed the tablet back into the backpack. Buzz pulled himself off the bench back up to his feet. "Yes, I would be Buzz. Let's get moving its a reasonable walk to the beach," Buzz replied to the trainer before him. He looked back at headquarters before setting off up the path towards the Lakes and the beach. They could teleport but he felt like the walk there would be good.

The pair walked together down the path for some way and it wasn't long before they grew close to the golden beaches that ushered the area that was now referred to as the sandy beach. It had previously just been a section of the Great Lakes but the area diversified enough to seperate them for runs."So, Tyson anything in particular you're hoping to find here?" Buzz asked.

As he waited for a response he saw the blue waves up ahead and smiled, he liked the new area it seemed like a fun place to chill out. He quickly tapped one of the balls on his belt and in a quick flash of light there was a blue, dog-like creature with a spiky, yellow mane. It barked happily as it plodded along beside Buzz, sniffing the beach as it went. Buzz hadn't had his Manectric out on runs much, but he thought it would enjoy the beach. Buzz looked around before spotting a brightly coloured slug-like Pokémon swimming just atop the water near a rock. Manectric let out a loud bark and the Shellos turned towards the noise.

"Well looks like we've found our first Pokémon of the day. You want to have a go at battling a Shellos?" Buzz asked his trainer,

It was a fairly long walk from the office to the beach. Buzz had said that when they set off, and Tyson had now experienced it for himself, too. The walk had been long, but not unenjoyable. The surroundings had been varied and the National Park was a beautiful place indeed. Upon reaching the Sandy Beach area, Buzz asked: "So, Tyson anything in particular you're hoping to find here?"

Tyson nodded. There were several Pokémon in this area that interested him, but one was clearly on the top of his list. "I'm hoping to find a Tentacool here. There are a bunch of other Pokémon that interest me as well, but Tentacool is my primary target." Meanwhile, Buzz had sent out his Manectric. The large canine Pokémon seemed happy to be on the beach and looked energetic.

Buzz scanned the surroundings when his gaze fixed on a spot behind Tyson. Manectric looked in the same direction as Buzz and when Tyson turned around, he saw a blue Shellos swimming in the water near a big rock close to the shore. Seen from this distance, the ocean blue gastropod seemed to be male. Manectric let out a sharp bark. This sudden sound piqued Shellos' attention and the brightly coloured sea slug curiously started swimming towards them. "Well, looks like we've found our first Pokémon of the day." Buzz said. "You want to have a go at battling a Shellos?"

"Yeah! I do!" Tyson said enthusiastically, excitement bringing a sparkle to his eyes as he took a Pokéball from his bag.
"Go, Forte!" he said as he released his Forretress from his capsule. The heavy bagworm made a wide dent in the golden sand of the beach when he landed. "First, get yourself off the ground with Magnet Rise. Once you're airbourne, try to focus and hit it with Zap Cannon! Hopefully you'll be able to paralyze it..."

BP 1:

"Yeah! I do!" Tyson said enthusiastically, as he took a Poké Ball from his bag. "Go, Forte!" he said as he released his Forretress from his capsule. The heavy bagworm made a wide dent in the golden sand of the beach when he landed. "First, get yourself off the ground with Magnet Rise. Once you're airbourne, try to focus and hit it with Zap Cannon! Hopefully you'll be able to paralyze it."

Buzz saw metallic Forretress' eyes as it slow began to use magnetic energy to repel itself from the ground, a tactic that was remarkably useful. Both as it meant Forte would be able to move quicker than if it were on the ground but also because it wouldn't have to worry about any kind of ground attacks. Many of Buzz's electric types back home had been taught the technique.

Zap Cannon was a powerful electric move, but very difficult to control and ensure it hit. Buzz watched as the green energy ball formed in front of the Bagworm Pokémon. The dark green orb had electric arcs pulsing through at as the ball grew in front of Forte. Buzz rarely chose to use the technique, preferring the use of Thunder. Though naturally, Tyson didn't have this opportunity available to him.

Meanwhile, Shellos had leapt from the rock it was standing upon. Buzz suddenly felt the earth tremble beneath his feet. Manectric began to growl at the sudden shaking. The damp sand at Shellos' feet began to collect together. Its blue body shone with a golden energy as pillars of sand formed around itself. The sand castle wall an attempt to shield itself from the now released Zap Cannon.

The green electric ball pulsed through the sand wall. Cascades of sand were scattered rippling the ocean water as the electrical energy crashed into Shellos. The sand appeared to taken a big hit out of the power but it was now struggling to move, as the electricity coursed over its body. It appeared to have done a decent amount of damage, but Shellos' didn't look like it was about to give up just yet.

A wave rushed onto the beach behind Shellos, as the water touched the gastropod it began to swirl around it. Shellos rose up on the whirlpool of sea water that suddenly towered up. Buzz wondered how Tyson could counter such an ominous looking attack.

Tyson was very content to see that his tactic had worked gloriously. Not only had Forte's mobility been improved by using Magnet Rise, but it also made his Zap Cannon significantly more accurate. Shellos had attempted to block the electric pulse with Earth Power, but to no avail. The blue slug took a big blow and got paralyzed too, exactly as Tyson had hoped.

But now he and Forte faced a new problem. Shellos had whipped up a huge tornado of water and then proceeded to ride it, aiming to hit Tyson's beloved bagworm. If the Whirlpool would hit Forte, he would be probably be trapped inside it, continually taking damage and making it harder to launch a successful attack.

Two ideas entered Tyson's mind. He could either try a daring yet spectacular tactic and tell Forte to use Gyro Ball or Rapid Spin on the Whirlpool to try to negate its spin and stop the attack, or he could take the safe and somewhat boring route of using Protect to prevent the swirling water from reaching his Forretress.

Seeing as this was his first ever Park Run, Tyson didn't want to take too many risks. Protect it would be.
"Forte, use Protect to block Whirlpool!" he had to shout to be audible over the roar of the oncoming swirling mass of water. "After that, try to weaken Shellos even further with Bug Bite!"

 

OOC: @Paleo; Sorry for the delay have had a very busy few weeks.

BP 2:
"Forte, use Protect to block Whirlpool!" he had to shout to be audible over the roar of the oncoming swirling mass of water. "After that, try to weaken Shellos even further with Bug Bite!"

Forte heard the command but the swirling mass of water was too strong for the small shield Forte had managed to create. Forte was whipped into the Shellos' Whirlpool and was being damaged by the continuous attack. Fortunately the protect had weakened the initial damage and soon the Forretress began to use its almost spherical body to harness the rotation it slid down the vortex to the central column to where the Shellos was protected.

Forretress launched itself down to the gastropod and bit hard into its neck. The whirlpool died down dramatically, the sandy beach now drenched with water claggy to the touch. Shellos winced backwards at the bite it received as Forretress retreated ready for the next instruction from Tyson.

Shellos was not ready to give up yet though. The now claggy sand beneath its feet suddenly began to form into a ball. The claggy improvised sand based Mud Bomb was hurled at the Bag Worm Pokémon. Forte was struck by the the attack and a sand scattered everywhere on impact.

Buzz watched, very curiously as to what Tyson's next move would be. Shellos looked to be breathing heavily as if that last attack had required a lot of energy and as if it was getting close to being able to be captured. Tyson would have to be careful if he wanted to do more damage before capturing or he could risk throwing a ball now.

(OOC: @Buzzer; sorry for the delay, I've been very lazy lately)

The Protect didn't work as Tyson had hoped it would. The move had failed to entirely block Shellos' Whirlpool and Forte had taken a weakened hit. Forte had managed to use a Bug Bite on Shellos, opening his shell lightning fast before chomping down on his target and closing his shell equally quickly afterwards. The bug inside never came into view. This surprisingly fast hunting tactic is one of the factors which have created and are maintaining the enigma and the mystery surrounding the appearance of Forretress' body.

Shellos quickly recovered from the bite and launched a Mud Bomb at Forte. The small blue Pokémon looked tired, but it still had good aim, which it proved as the Mud Bomb slammed into Forte. Tyson was considering his options. Throw a Park Ball now, or try to weaken Shellos first...

"Forte, use Rapid Spin! Gently please, as odd as that may sound. You shouldn't knock it out, I still want to catch it." Tyson said. Shellos was weakened considerably, but determination still shone brightly in its eyes. Recognizing that Shellos was not done fighting yet, Tyson made his choice. The little ocean dweller had proven to be a tougher opponent than he had expected. All the more reason to try and catch it.
